Who is in the Little League World Series? Updated list of teams to qualify for 2022 LLWS bracket

Baseball’s future will be on display at South Williamsport, Pennsylvania, for one of the sport’s most cherished events. The Little League World Series is back and primed to be unlike any of its predecessors.

The 2022 Little League World Series is the 75th edition of the competition. The tournament will now feature 20 teams, expanded from the 16-team format it has used for much of its existence.

This year’s tournament is significant for another reason. The COVID-19 pandemic canceled the event in 2020, while only American teams competed in the LLWS in 2021. But this year, fans will be able to see the next generation of young talent cropping up from countries all across the world, including Japan and Mexico, among other countries.

All of that is to say, it should be an enthralling competition. And with fans back in the stands once more — they, too, missed out on last year’s proceedings due to COVID-19 — the magic of Williamsport should be a little more palpable this time around.

Where is the Little League World Series?

  • Location: Howard J. Lamade Stadium and Little League Volunteer Stadium; South Williamsport, Penn.

Two stadiums play host to the Little League World Series. The first, and more iconic of the two, is Lamade Stadium. Lamade seats 10,000, but the lush green landscape behind the outfield wall means up to 40,000 people can view the action during games.

Volunteer Stadium can seat up to 5,000.

Both parks have the same dimensions: the pitcher’s mounds are 46 feet away from home plate, while the base paths are 60 feet. The outfield fence stretches to 225 feet.

Who won the Little League World Series last year?

Taylor North Little League, representing Michigan, defeated Ohio’s Hamilton West Side Little League in the 2021 Little League World Series championship game.

With only a limited number of family members in the stands and only U.S.-based teams taking part in last year’s tournament, it was a much different atmosphere than the one usually found in Williamsport.

Louisiana beat Curacao in the 2019 final, the last tournament to include international teams.

Which state/country has won the most Little League World Series titles?

Asian countries have had a chokehold on the Little League World Series, with Chinese Taipei claiming a world-best 17 titles and Japan sitting in second place with 11 championship wins. Japan has had something of a monopoly on the Little League World Series trophy in the past decade or so, capturing the iconic hardware five times since 2010.

In terms of U.S.-based teams, the state with the most championship wins in the competition is California with 7.
