Andy Roddick has analyzed in detail the prospects of Roger Federer, who in about a month will be back on the court after over a year to play the Laver Cup. The Swiss Maestro, this season, will also play the Basel tournament.
Roddick told: “Roger Federer experienced a timid comeback in 2021, but soon realized he couldn’t continue that way. He wasn’t moving at all well, he was the shadow of the champion who dominated the ATP Tour. It’s perfectly aware that it will not be easy to return to high levels at his age and after yet another operation, but he had no other choice.
You have to be patient. My hope is that Roger can return and retire on his terms. I don’t care if he will win other titles or not, the important thing is that he worthily ends his legendary career.” Federer received a beautiful tribute from swimmer Adam Peaty: “Roger has shown an extraordinary longevity, everyone would like to be like him.

Roger in Basel and at the Laver Cup
Federer has experienced a real ordeal over the past two seasons, having had to deal with a serious right knee injury.
Roger was unable to play as and as much as he would have liked, but he never considered retiring. The King played just 13 official matches last year, racking up nine wins and four losses. After reaching the quarterfinals at Wimbledon 2021, the 40-year-old Swiss gave up the Tokyo Olympics to undergo a new knee operation.
The 20-time Grand Slam champion is still recovering from that surgery and is expected to return to the Laver Cup next month. The Maestro will close his very short season at the ATP in Basel, back on the calendar after the last two editions had been canceled due to the pandemic. Everyone’s hope is that Federer will be able to retire on his terms.
