Man Utd transfer round-up: 'Concrete' Sesko offer tabled but De Jong hopes dashed again

Erik ten Hag is unlikely to get any more new faces through the door before Manchester United entertain Brighton this weekend – and the Dutchman is running out of time to bolster his beleaguered squad.

United have already snapped up Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez this summer, but Ten Hag remains desperate shake up a squad that slumped to their worst-ever Premier League finish last term.

And with the transfer window set to slam shut in a matter of weeks, United will be expected to ramp up their work in the market. Here, Mirror Football takes a look at all the latest transfer news from in and around Old Trafford…

‘Concrete’ Sesko offer tabled

Manchester United have reportedly tabled a ‘concrete’ offer for Benjamin Sesko – but Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are also firmly in the race for the sought-after RB Salzburg striker.

With Cristiano Ronaldo’s future still unclear, United are making moves to try and beef up their forward options ahead of the new season, with Sesko, who plundered 10 goals in all competitions for Salzburg last term, seen as the perfect long-term solution to United’s attacking woes.

According to Sportklub in Slovenia, United have now firmed up their interest in the talented 19-year-old with an offer, but Chelsea and PSG have also lodged bids for the striker. Newcastle United, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are also interested in the Slovenian hotshot, who could leave Austria for the right price.

Manchester United’s hopes of finally landing Frenkie de Jong were dealt another blow this week – with Chelsea now reportedly the favourites in the race for the Barcelona man.

De Jong has been Ten Hag’s primary summer transfer target, and the United chief has played the long game in his pursuit of the Dutch playmaker, who originally rose to prominence under Ten Hag during their time together at Ajax.

However, it is looking more and more likely that Ten Hag will not get the reunion he craves, as Chelsea have now launched their own move for De Jong. According to The Daily Mail, United were willing to find a solution to the £15million in deferred wages that De Jong is said to be owed by Barcelona – but their new stance is unlikely to have any bearing on De Jong’s future, as the playmaker would rather stay at the Nou Camp or join Chelsea.

Telles drops future hint

Alex Telles joined Sevilla on a season-long loan on Wednesday

Alex Telles has hinted that he hopes to salvage his Manchester United career – even though he sealed a season-long switch to Sevilla on Wednesday.

The Brazilian full-back has been deemed surplus to requirements by Ten Hag and will spend the new campaign in La Liga, but no purchase option has been included in the deal with Sevilla – indicating he is set to return to Old Trafford next summer. And the 29-year-old appeared to allude to that in a social media post after the move was confirmed. Telles posted: “To everyone at United: colleagues, staff, fans. I will be supporting and cheering you on all season. Thanks for the moments so far.”

And to his new fans, he added: “WE GO! I am honoured by this opportunity. I arrive with a lot of desire to add and get the best possible results for Sevilla. I can’t wait to debut and be able to help my teammates.”
