John Isner sounds off on Novak Djokovic US Open ban: Complete lunacy

John Isner suggests he is pushing behind the scenes for Novak Djokovic to be allowed to compete at the US Open. Djokovic, a 21-time Grand Slam champion, hasn’t been vaccinated against COVID-19 and he will likely miss out on the US Open because he is not permitted to enter the US as an unvaccinated foreigner.

“Are there any active tennis players urging the US to let @DjokerNole plat or nah?” Seth Dillon asked on Twitter. Reacting to Dillon’s tweet, Isner said it’s a “completely lunacy” that Djokovic can’t compete at the US Open because of his vaccination status.

“Yes. Complete lunacy he can’t compete as of now. #science” Isner said in response.

Isner wants Djokovic at the US Open

Djokovic has received lots of support since Wimbledon as some find it “ridiculous” that the Serb might miss out on the final Grand Slam of the season because of his vaccination status.

Over this past weekend, Djokovic took a moment to express grattitude to his fans and to also reveal that he is preparing for the US Open as if he will be allowed to play. “I just wanted to take a moment and say to all of you how grateful I am to see so many messages of support and love from all around the world these days.

I wasn’t expecting it, and that’s why it feels so mindblowing. Just wanted to say THANK YOU. It feels special that people connect with my tennis career in such a loving and supportive way and wish for me to continue to compete.

I am preparing as if I will be allowed to compete, while I await to hear if there is any room for me to travel to US. Fingers crossed!” Djokovic wrote on Instagram over the weekend. The US Open starts on August 29 and it remains to be seen if Djokovic will be allowed to compete.
