After suffering a horrific head injury whilst skiing in France in 2013, updates on the health of Formula 1 great Michael Schumacher have been few and far between. Schumacher was skiing off-piste when he fell and hit his head off a rock.
The German star was airlifted to hospital in Grenoble, and after undergoing two separate surgeries, he was placed in a medically induced coma for six weeks. Nine years on from his horrendous accident, Schumacher’s family are preparing to start a ‘new life’ in Majorca in a £27 million villa which will be used during the winter months, according to German magazine Die Bunte.
Schumacher and wife Corina’s new pad is said to have been previously owned by Real Madrid boss Florentino Perez.
The property – which provides beautiful sea views down the Majorcan coast – is kitted out with two luxurious swimming pools, as well as a helipad and all the medical facilities needed for the seven-time world champion. As well as the villa, the Schumacher’s have also purchased the land surrounding – which currently houses olive trees and dilapidated buildings.
The land is reported to have cost an eye-watering £2.3 million, but it seems it could well be worthwhile for the German driver, with the plot being described as ‘absolute rarity in the region of south-west Majorca’ due to its coastal location.

The Spanish island is set to be a familiar surrounding for the Schumachers, having spent many a holiday in Majorca, according to Die Bunte. Whilst updates on his health have been limited, wife Corina revealed last September that whilst he is ‘different’ he is ‘here’.
She said: “He still shows me how strong he is every day. We live together at home. We do therapy. We do everything we can to make Michael better and to make sure he’s comfortable. And to simply make him feel our family, our bond.And no matter what, I will do everything I can.
“We all will. We’re trying to carry on as a family, the way Michael liked it and still does. And we are getting on with our lives. ‘Private is private’, as he always said. It’s very important to me that he can continue to enjoy his private life as much as possible. Michael always protected us, and now we are protecting Michael.”
