Top-ranked British tennis player Cameron Norrie said there were a lot of positives things to take from his 2021 Wimbledon run, which ended with a semifinal defeat to Novak Djokovic. Norrie, 26, made his first Grand Slam semifinal in front of his home fans at Wimbledon.

In the semifinal, Norrie got off to a very strong start as he won the first set versus Djokovic with a 6-2 score. Like many times before, Djokovic stormed back after a slow start as he crushed Norrie in the rest of the match to claim a 2-6 6-3 6-2 6-4 win.

“Wimbledon was a very cool experience, making Wimbledon for the second week for the first time, and making it to the semis and having a tight match with Djokovic,” Norrie reflected, per Tennis365. “Looking back there were a lot of positive things to take from it.

The biggest thing is knowing I can do it at a Slams now. Especially playing in the biggest match of my career so far, to play the level I did, to start like that, against probably the best player in the world at the moment on grass anyway”.

Norrie on the recognition he has been getting in Great Britain

For two weeks straight, Norrie was making the sports headlines across the United Kingdom. It has led to Norrie becoming one of the most popular British athletes this summer and he has been recognized pretty much wherever he goes.

“It was funny,” Norrie admittd. “You go down to get a coffee and the barista recognises you, ‘oh, don’t worry about it, today, it is alright’. I am like, ‘mate, I can pay for it, it’s fine’.

He says, ‘ah, don’t worry about it’. I went to get my dry cleaning and they were like, ‘ah, a great Wimbledon, you know what this time don’t worry about it’. I am like, ‘man, it’s fine, I can pay for it’.”
