Rafael Nadal said a lot of mental and physical effort was required for him to put up in order to be able to compete at Wimbledon but he has no regrets as The Championships is a tournament he absolutely loves. After playing at the French Open with his foot “asleep” for two weeks straight, Nadal underwent a “radio frequency” foot treatment in Spain.

The foot responded well to the treatment and Nadal was able to make his first Wimbledon appearance since 2019. “I did I make a big effort to be here,” Nadal said, per Tennisbuzz. “[It] takes a lot of mental and physical effort to try to play this tournament after the things that I went through the last couple of months.

But as everybody knows, Wimbledon is a tournament that I like so much. Have been three years without playing here. I really wanted to be back. That’s what I am doing. So that’s why it means a lot for me to be in that quarterfinals, no? I think I have been improving in general terms, no?”

Nadal feeling his game much better as the tournament progresses

On Monday, Nadal claimed a 6-4 6-2 7-6 (6) victory over Botic van de Zandschulp to progress into the Wimbledon quarterfinal.

Nadal has now won four Wimbledon matches and he is well-prepared for what’s to come in the rest of the tournament. “I started to feel that my ball is damaging more than the beginning of the tournament. I think I am, again, making the ball advance faster with my forehand, with my backhand.

I think working well with the slice, too,” Nadal added. “Then I miss a couple of volleys again going to the net. That’s the way. In general terms, I am happy. It’s not easy to make the transition. Not easy especially after a while not playing here.

Now is the moment to keep doing the steps forward if I want to keep having chances”. Nadal plays Taylor Fritz in the Wimbledon quarterfinal.
