Ajla Tomljanovic reveals funny Wimbledon problem after win over Barbora Krejcikova

Ajla Tomljanovic produced a big comeback win against Barbora Krejcikova and after the match said she arrived to Wimbledon believing she could play well and potantially make a strong result. 44th-ranked Tomljanovic made a slow start to her match versus Krejcikova but recovered to upset the 13th-seed in three sets 2-6 6-4 6-3.

Tomljanovic, 29, reached her maiden Grand Slam last-quarterfinal at Wimbledon 12 months ago. Now, Tomljanovic has been through to the Wimbledon last-16 and she is proving that her last year’s run at the tournament wasn’t a fluke.

“Coming in, you’re not seeded so you don’t know what can happen. Even if you are, it’s a slam. There are always upsets. I don’t know what my form was coming in, but I just knew that I could produce good tennis, but actually doing it, it feels really nice.

It just kind of confirms that I maybe do belong here,” Tomljanovic said after the win.

Tomljanovic on booking problems

Team Tomljanovic apparently booked a house only for a week and the Australian had to to re-book after reaching the Wimbledon last-16.

“I was like (to my father) ‘You thought I’d lose the second round?’ At least book it until Sunday so it’s a good problem to have. I’m not really satisfied with being in the third round and then moving houses.

The problem was it’s so hard to find something. London is packed, and I didn’t want to stay an hour away. He was very — he didn’t take it well,” Tomljanovic revealed. “Today when I finished, he’s like, ‘Oh, I have to book again.’ I was like, ‘You’re kidding me?’ He wasn’t kidding, but he managed to book the same.

Hotel, so I have a room probably until Tuesday.” Tomljanovic plays next Alize Cornet, who upset Iga Swiatek. Cornet is a pretty favorable round-of-16 matchup and Tomljanovic will certainly be motivated to get the job done and make back-to-back Wimbledon quarterfinals.
