2018 Wimbledon semifinalist John Isner now holds the record for the most aces served in tennis history as he now has 13,748 aces in his collection. On Friday, Isner served 24 aces in a straight-set loss to Jannik Sinner in the Wimbledon third round.
Ivo Karlovic held the previous all-time record for most aces (13,728). “I’m actually very proud of that record,” Isner reflected post-match, per the ATP website. “I wish I could have broken it in a win, but to have set the all-time aces record at Wimbledon I think is very special.
It’s a credit to — in my mind — how professional I’ve been to keep myself healthy for such a long time, to keep myself on the court to give myself the opportunity to hit those aces. It is something I’m actually pretty proud of.
I don’t pat myself on the back too much, but this one I think is pretty cool.”
Mats Wilander on Isner setting the new all-time record for most aces
Eurosport tennis expert Wilander called Isner a “Wimbledon legend” as he feels the American was the big reason why all Grand Slams agreed to introduce a fifth-set tie-break.
“He’s obviously a legend here at Wimbledon because he played the longest match in the history of our sport, and he played that famous one against Kevin Anderson (2018 Wimbledon semi-final),” Wilander said on Eurosport.
“Of course, because of those two matches, I believe we now have a tie-breaker [after 6-6 in the fifth set], first to ten points.” Even though 37-year-old Isner is past his prime, he is still a top-24 player in the world.
In the Wimbledon second round, Isner ousted home favorite Andy Murray. Isner is now a family man and tennis is not his top priority anymore. However, he can still play welll and make deep runs at ATP 250 events.
