AS Monaco head coach Philippe Clement has, on Saturday, confirmed that the club have struck a deal for Liverpool star Takumi Minamino.
Japanese international Minamino of course endured something of a hit and miss campaign at Anfield in 2021/22.
Slipping ever further down Liverpool’s attacking pecking order owing to the mid-season arrival of Luis Diaz, the 27-year-old was afforded a paltry one Premier League start, instead handed the chance to impress largely in cup competition.
And, to his credit, produce amid limited game-time is precisely what Minamino went on to do.
Across 24 appearances in all competitions, nine of which came in the form of starts, the ex-Red Bull Salzburg star racked up a none-too-shabby ten goals.
With prolific Benfica hitman Darwin Nunez’s arrival on the red half of Merseyside having now been confirmed, though, Minamino looked set to remain on the outside looking in when it comes to Klopp’s ranks ahead of next season.
In turn, it came as little surprise to hear of clubs from across the continent beginning to express a keen interest in the talented attacker of late.
All of Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leeds United, Olympique Lyonnais and AS Monaco were tipped as potential landing spots for Mimamino over the course of the last couple of weeks alone.
And now, as alluded to above, one such outfit have announced a deal for the Liverpool outcast.
Speaking to the media on Saturday evening, Philippe Clement, manager of Ligue 1 outfit Monaco, confirmed that the club are ‘really happy’ to have signed Minamino.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, meanwhile, has provided an insight into the terms of the transfer, with Liverpool set to pocket a not inconsiderable fee of €15 million, plus a potential 3 million in add-ons, for the Japanese’s services.
