British tennis player Ryan Peniston, 26, has secured a notable payday this grass season as he is looking forward to investing the freshly-earned money into his tennis career. Peniston made his ATP debut this week at the Queen’s Club, where he reached the quarterfinal as a wildcard.
At the Queen’s Club, Peniston stunned top-seeded Casper Ruud, before beating Francisco Cerundolo in his following match. In the quarterfinal, Peniston fell short to Filip Krajinovic in three sets. By reaching the Queen’s quarterfinal, Peniston netted £50,230.
This week, the Wimbledon organizers announced Peniston as a main draw wildcard recipient. Peniston will earn at least £50,000 for just competing at Wimbledon, securing a total of at least £100,000. Prior to this week, Peniston had around $160,000 in career earnings.

“I was playing on the Futures Tours a couple of years ago and then the Challengers. So it’s definitely going to help my career a lot. I’m just going to reinvest it in myself. Just being able to pay for training and travel and now I’m starting to be able to afford a coach to travel with.
The next step is being able to afford a physical trainer on the road, which I think is super important, and trying to basically improve the team and have them as much with me as possible. I’m going to remember a lot from this week I think, for sure.
Definitely a few feelings that I had, like after the win in my first round and then the match point in my last match in the second round. Those feelings will take a while, I think, to forget. Will I treat myself? Maybe. I’ll think about that after Wimbledon”.
Peniston, who is enjoying a career-high ranking of No. 180 in the world, is set for a new career-high as he will enter the top-150 for the first time in his career this Monday.
