In less than six hours, the 2022 Stanley Cup Final matchup may be set.
Game 6 of the East finals between the Lightning and the Rangers takes place Saturday night at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla. The Lightning own a 3-2 series lead and would punch their ticket to a third consecutive finals appearance with a win.
Tampa Bay took the lead in the series with a 3-1 win in Game 5 on Thursday in New York. Ondrej Palat deflected a Mikhail Sergachev shot from the point past Igor Shesterkin late in the third period to give the Lightning the lead. That goal proved to be the game-winner.

New York is tasked with once again completing a comeback in a series. It jumped out to a 2-0 series advantage over the Lightning but has dropped the last three. The Rangers came back from down 3-1 against the Penguins in the first round and 3-2 against the Hurricanes in the second round.
Shesterkin and New York are 5-0 in elimination games this postseason, so they are not entering unfamiliar territory. But Tampa Bay has been fantastic at home in these playoffs at 6-1.
Can the Rangers survive and force a Game 7 on Tuesday? Or will the Lightning advance to play the Avalanche in the Stanley Cup Final?
The Sporting News will have all the updates and highlights from the pivotal Game 6 on Saturday.

Lightning vs. Rangers updates, highlights from Game 6
End 1st period: Lightning 0, Rangers 0
8:48 p.m.: End of the 1st and score remains 0-0. Shesterkin was the best player on the ice and the sole reason why the Lightning didn’t have multiple goals in the period. Lightning in front in shots with 11-7.
8:47 p.m.: Great pad save by Shesterkin on Anthony Cirelli, who tried to snuck the puck around his leg. Cirelli cut in all alone from a nice pass by Hagel.

8:38 p.m.: The game remains scoreless with 5:44, but it is Tampa Bay in complete control. They’re maintaining pressure and firing everything at Shesterkin, who has been steady in net. New York needs to be better at getting the puck out of their own zone.
8:23 p.m.: Great chance for Tampa Bay early. Riley Nash knocks down a clearing attempt by Shesterkin and Pat Maroon is left alone in front. His deflection goes right into Shesterkin’s stomach. It’s been all Tampa Bay early on, with shot attempts 11-3 in favor of the Lightning.

Pregame
7:57 p.m.: Official. Ryan Strome is in, Kaapo Kakko is out.
Strome is IN, Kakko is OUT for #NYR
— Arthur Staple (@StapeAthletic) June 11, 2022
7:51 p.m.: Chance that Kaapo Kakko is odd man out tonight. Ryan Strome’s status still up in the air. He left during warmups but returned.
If Ryan Strome plays, look for Kaapo Kakko to be scratched tonight. As I mentioned before, he skated as the center between Copp and Panarin in warmups. That would be Strome’s spot.

7:50 p.m.: Tampa Bay electing again with 12 forwards and six D. Hagel up again playing wing in the top-six.

7:10 p.m.: Looks like New York making a lineup change with Dryden Hunt appearing to slot into the bottom-six forward group in place of Ryan Reaves.
Ryan Reaves arriving to the arena on the late #NYR bus, he won’t be in tonight. Dryden Hunt warming up with teammates in the hallway pregame, pretty sure he’ll take on-ice warmups with the 12 regulars. We’ll see how they line up shortly.

6:30 p.m.: Brayden Point’s status for Game 6 is still unknown. Coach Jon Cooper said that the decision will depend on whether Point can participate in warmups.
Jon Cooper said if Brayden Point is in warmups, he’ll be a game time decision. If he’s not, he’s out. So not ruled out. Point has been doing battle drills here at skate, shooting too pic.twitter.com/KV5hhq29wq
