French tennis player Benoit Paire has announced an indefinite break from tennis following his latest loss. On Monday, Paire kicked off his grass season in Stuttgart, and his first grass tournament quickly came to an end. In the Stuttgart first round, Paire faced Lorenzo Sonego as the Italian earned a 7-5 6-2 win.

Paire, who is having a rough 2022 season, picked up his third consecutive defeat this week. Paire has one of the worst records on the ATP Tour this year as he has three wins and 16 losses in 2022. “Break from tennis for an indefinite period,” Paire wrote on his Instagram Story.

Paire admitted to having mental problems

Paire has had several stunning collapses in 2022.

On Monday, Paire had a 5-3 lead in the first set versus Sonego before he suffered a stunning collapse and won just two games in the rest of the match. Closing out sets and matches has been a struggle for Paire this year.

“No, I have no word for it. I just see what needs to happen for me to win a set point. I need the opponent to make a mistake, otherwise I can’t win. All those latest matches I played I was up and almost going to win them and I ended up losing them,” Paire said.

When Paire was asked about the possibility of working with a psychologist, he made it clear he wasn’t interested in seeking a professional help. “I don’t know. I don’t know what to do. I tried to have a coach.

I had one for Indian Wells and Miami. It was Edouard’s coach. But what happens is in my mind,” Paire said. “I don’t want to go and see a psychologist. I’m not interested. It’s going to come back.” Recently, Paire stated that he is not happy about Wimbledon being stripped of ranking points. It remains to be seen will Paire play again this grass season.
