Queens Park Rangers are close to appointing Michael Beale as their new head coach, 90min understands.

Beale is currently serving as Steven Gerrard’s assistant manager at Aston Villa, but is keen to take the next step in his career and become a manager in his own right.

The 41-year-old also worked with Gerrard during his three-year reign as Rangers boss, and is widely recognised as one of the game’s more impressive young coaches. He has also worked for Liverpool at various youth levels.

QPR have been on the hunt for a new boss since parting ways with Mark Warburton towards the back end of the 2021/22 season, and Beale has now emerged as their number one candidate.

Aston Villa had been hoping Beale would stay put and continue working with Gerrard, but they won’t stand in the way of his ambitions to become a number one.
