The triple Ballon d’Or (1983, 84 and 85), suspended in 2015 from any football-related activity for 6 years (a sentence reduced to 4 years by the CAS) by FIFA, has always considered to have been the victim of a plot to remove him from the presidency of FIFA, which he was seeking at the time. He had been exonerated by the Swiss justice in 2018, while a payment of 1.8 M€ by Sepp Blatter, around a verbal agreement for a work of adviser, is at the origin of his legal concerns. . In 2018, Platini, at the heart of a new case, had already filed a complaint against Infantino for slanderous denunciation and criminal association.
