The late 2000s and early 2010s marked the rise of Chelsea. Bought in 2003 by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, the London club has become a strong element of English and European football. Many great players have passed through Stamford Bridge, but few of them can claim to have won the Champions League with the club. Florent Malouda is part of this very closed circle. In an interview given to Sportsmail, the former French international (80 caps, 9 goals) returned to the attacking trio he formed with Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka.

“I played with Didier before (at Guingamp, editor’s note) but I had never played with Nicolas Anelka. For me, he was one of the pioneers when he was at Arsenal, he was a role model, and to be able to support him and Didier in attack, each competing for the Golden Boot with so many goals, and to be involved in those attacking opportunities was great.”, explains the former OL player. In terms of attacking efficiency, few teams have done better than Chelsea in the 2008-2009 season with 103 goals scored in 38 league games, the attacking trio necessarily playing a role. “That year, everyone was scoring. We were able to exert such pressure, whether in open play, from set pieces or from penalties. We had so many different ways to score and if one didn’t score he helped the other. We shared the goals, it was a great feeling.
