Queens Park Rangers (QPR) have recalled Brazil goalkeeper Julio Cesar from his loan spell at Major League Soccer (MLS) club Toronto FC.

After joining Rangers from Italian club Inter Milan on a four-year deal in August 2012, the 34-year-old endured a difficult first season as the London club were relegated from the top-flight.

He made just an appearance for QPR in the Championship and joined the Canadian club in February.

Cesar stood in goal in all of ‘A Selecao’s’ games at the World Cup and his heroic in the penalty shootout win over Chile helped the hosts reach the quarter-finals of the tournament.

“We’d like to thank Julio for everything he brought to our club. He made an immediate impact,” read a statement on Toronto’s website.

He is now expected to fend off challenges from former England goalkeeper Robert Green, who established himself as first choice during QPR’s immediate promotion to the Premier League.

Green signed a two-year contract extension with the club in July.
