Ablekuma North Election Re-run: Court Dismisses Motion For Interim Injunction

0

A High Court in Accra has dismissed an application for an interim injunction to restrain the Electoral Commission (EC) from going ahead to re-run elections in 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North Constituency on July 11, 2025.

The court presided over by Justice Ali Baba Abature in a short ruling held that the application is unmeritorious as the balance of convenience tilts in favour of the EC which has the constitutional mandate to conduct elections for the people of Ablekuma North constituency.

The court further held that the EC which is a finger of the executive arm of government would be in a position to adequately compensate Akua Owusu Afriyie, the NPP’s candidate in damages should she win the substantive case.

Gary Nimako Marfo, counsel for the applicant had urged the court to halt the re-run for 10 days within which the EC was to appear before the court to show cause why it failed to comply with the express orders of the High Court which ordered it to collate outstanding results and declare a winner.

According to Justin Kodua, the Jean Mensa-led EC lacks principles.

The NPP General Secretary is quoted by JOY NEWS to have stated, “Given current events, the EC lacks principles, and I can’t defend it against Asiedu Nketia’s claim that its leadership is unfit for purpose”.

Oranges: A Fresh and Nutritious Choice this Season

0

A vibrant market scene in Ghana featuring a fruit vendor, a woman wearing traditional Ghanaian cloth.

This week, a kind couple gifted me a paper bag full of oranges freshly picked from their backyard, a simple gesture that inspired this article. Oranges are back in season and are making their presence felt in local markets and roadside stalls across the country.

Thanks to their seasonal abundance, prices are currently more favourable (though this may vary depending on your location), making it a great time to nourish your body with their goodness. In this article, we make a case for why oranges deserve a regular spot on your weekly market list while it is in season.

Nutrients in Oranges

Oranges are abundant in several vital nutrients:

  1. Vitamins: Oranges are especially rich in vitamin C, which supports immune function, promotes skin health, and enhances iron absorption. They also provide small amounts of vitamin A, B-complex vitamins like thiamine and folate, and vitamin E.
  2. Minerals: Oranges contain potassium, a heart-healthy mineral that supports blood pressure regulation. They also provide small amounts of calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus, which support bone and nerve function.
  3. Fibre: Helps improve digestion, regulate blood sugar, lower cholesterol, potentially reducing the risk of heart disease and colorectal cancer

Oranges and Immune Support

Oranges are synonymous with immune health thanks to their high vitamin C content. This vitamin supports the production and function of white blood cells, helping the body fend off infections and recover faster from illnesses. This makes oranges particularly beneficial during this relatively cold season.

High dietary fibre and water content

A medium-sized orange (about 130g) contains approximately 3 grams of dietary fibre, particularly soluble fibre which plays many helpful roles in the body. With over 85% water content, oranges also contribute significantly to hydration. Thanks to this same high fibre and water content, oranges can help increase satiety and reduce cravings for people watching their weight. They are also naturally low in calories, (about 60-65 kcal per medium fruit) yet they are satisfying enough to keep you full in between meals.

Presence of Antioxidants and Plant Compounds

Oranges are loaded with flavonoids, especially hesperidin and naringenin, which are known for their anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and heart-protective properties. These compounds play important roles in reducing the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and even certain cancers.

What about orange juice?

Up until this point, we have focused on the orange itself, the whole fruit in its natural, unprocessed form, and not its juice. Whether freshly squeezed at home or bought off the shelf, orange juice remains a popular choice for many; however it is important to understand that eating the whole fruit offers significantly more health benefits.

Whole oranges are rich in the nutrients outlined above. The fibre especially, helps to slow down the absorption of sugar into the bloodstream, supports healthy digestion, and keeps you feeling fuller for longer. In contrast, orange juice, even when freshly squeezed, contains little to no fibre. Without fibre, the natural sugars in oranges are absorbed more quickly, which can lead to a sharper rise in blood sugar levels. For people managing their weight, diabetes, or insulin resistance, this is a crucial distinction. Moreover, when we eat whole oranges, we are less likely to overconsume. It might take two or three oranges to make one glass of juice, and while it’s easy to drink a glass in seconds, eating that many whole fruits takes more time and leaves you more satisfied. That natural portion control is lost when fruit is juiced.

Also, commercially produced orange juices often undergo processes which may reduce some of the vitamin C content, and many manufacturers often add sugar or sweeteners to enhance flavour. This somewhat defeats much of the purpose of choosing it as a nutritious option in the first place. So, while a glass of orange juice now and then can be refreshing, especially when it’s freshly squeezed with no added sugar, the real nutritional benefits lies in the whole orange. For maximum benefit, peel, slice, bite, chew, slurp, nibble and suck your oranges the old-fashioned way, as you like it.

In Summary

I am grateful to my friends for their thoughtful gift of fresh oranges. From supporting immunity and promoting heart health to aiding digestion and maintaining hydration, oranges offer excellent value for their cost. With the fruit now in season, this is an ideal time to enjoy them at their freshest- and often most affordable. By all means do take advantage of the opportunity to make the most of them this season.

Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kamal-Deen Abdulai, has waded into the controversy surrounding the suspended Chief Justice, defending her decision to seek redress at the ECOWAS Court.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Tuesday, July 9, 2025, and monitored by GhanaWeb, Kamal-Deen described the move as ‘not a bad thing to do’, and clarified that the Chief Justice, like any other citizen, has the right to pursue justice at the ECOWAS court if she believes she has not been treated fairly.

However, he noted that she’s not the first person to do that, referencing renowned lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata, who has previously taken matters to the ECOWAS Court.

“Can’t she say she’s not being treated fairly? Citizens must be allowed to explore all legal avenues available to them”, he emphasised.

Kamal-Deen further criticised perceived inconsistencies within Ghana’s constitution, stating, ‘There are so many flaws in the constitution’.

He indicated that those flaws sometimes result in unfair treatment, and people should be encouraged to stand up for their rights.

“I support her to fight for her right,” he stated.

Ghana secures $30 million grant from China to construct modern market in Aflao

Ghana has secured a $30 million grant from China to finance the construction of a modern market in Aflao, fulfilling a key campaign promise made by President John Mahama in the lead up to the 2024 elections.

The agreement was formally signed on Monday July 7, 2025, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Accra.

“A similar grant amount from China was used to construct the impressive Kotokuraba market in Cape Coast during the Mills/Mahama era. I signed on behalf of the Government of Ghana and the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Tong Defa signed for the Chinese Government,” he stated.

In a post shared on his X page on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, as sighted by GhanaWeb Business, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said the new market will serve as a major economic hub for the Volta region as a means to strengthen trade links between Ghana’s Ho market and Lome.

According to Ablakwa the facility is expected to enhance livelihoods and support commerce in Aflao, a key border town and trade gateway in West Africa.

“The new befitting modern Aflao market is expected to boost economic activity, link the Ho and Lome markets and improve livelihoods in an enclave which is a major West African trading hub.,” he tweeted.

This latest infrastructure investment mirrors a similar development under the Mills-Mahama administration, when a Chinese grant of equal value funded the construction of the Kotokuraba Market in Cape Coast, now considered one of the country’s most modern market complexes.

The Aflao market project reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to modernise commercial infrastructure, deepen regional trade, and deliver on development pledges.

Hearts of Oak and Gideon Asante marriage end in peace

0

Accra Hearts of Oak have officially terminated the contract of midfielder Gideon Asante through mutual agreement, the club has confirmed.

The decision brings an end to Asante’s stint with the Phobians, as both parties reached a consensus to part ways ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The club is expected to continue its restructuring process under new head coach Didi Dramani, with several changes anticipated in the squad.

Gideon Asante joined Hearts with high expectations but struggled to secure consistent playing time.

The mutual termination allows the player to pursue new opportunities while giving the club room to bring in reinforcements.

Some artistes are removing producer credits before selling their catalogues

Mark Darlington is a music publisher and producer Mark Darlington is a music publisher and producer

Music publisher and producer Mark Darlington has raised concerns about what he describes as unfair treatment of producers in the music industry, especially when artistes sell their music catalogues.

In an interview on Hitz FM on July 9, 2025, he stated that some top artistes are removing producer credits and claiming full ownership of songs before selling their catalogues, which he says is wrong and unfair.

“I’ve had quite a few calls from some of our top producers where some of the big stars are selling their catalogue and what’s happening is the splits that have been agreed between them and the producers that was maybe the songs were online, on the DSPs etc all of a sudden, the producers have gone on there. Their credits are gone and 100% ownership to the artists which is wrong,” he said.

Mark Darlington explained that when a producer works on a song, they are entitled to more than just publishing and mechanical royalties.

They also have rights to the master recording unless they have officially sold those rights.

“When a producer works on a song with the artist apart from the mechanical and publishing splits that they agree on, they have a share of the master rights as well unless the producers have sold and relinquished their rights to either the record label or the artiste.

If that has not happened, they have producer points on the exploitation of the master recording, so sometimes some of the artists who think they have paid the producer unless it’s written specifically in the contract that they relinquish their rights they still have a say in the master rights in terms of a producer point. It varies depending on whether it’s a record label that commissioned them to work on the song or an independent artist and the percentages are different depending on what agreement or the popularity or influence of the producer etc,” he stated.

He added that many producers, especially those who are not popularly known, are now realising that their names and rights have been removed from songs they worked on, just because the artiste has sold the catalogue.

“There are a lot of disgruntled producers now major producers that you might know whose credits have been taken because the artists have sold their catalogues and removed their sort of rights on the song. For example, if I’m a producer and I have my 50 per cent publishing mechanical rights to a song because maybe the catalogue being sold, they are selling including the publishing or whatever, I being the artiste have changed and said I own everything 100 per cent and sold that off which I think is wrong. Producers struggle as it is at the moment especially because they did not know much about some of this music right.

He added, “A lot of them were, I should say were cheated because due to ignorance and some of them have gone back to try and correct some of these wrongs. It’s been quite a struggle for a lot of the producers because some of these artistes have become quite huge and for some of producers when they were starting up they were sending beats to artistes and artistes were using them because the producers wanted to gain some momentum and get that sort of acknowledgement that producers they send these beats and they’ve used them some of them were not even paid a penny and to take away their rights of the songs as well it’s an injustice that we need to talk about as an industry.”

‘Why are we overindulging Afenyo-Markin?’ – Ayariga clashes with Annoh-Dompreh over dispatch box

The Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, clashed with the Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, during proceedings in the House on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.

The clash was over the insistence of the Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, to use the dispatch table during the questioning of the Minister for Trade and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, who was summoned to the House to answer some questions on her sector.

Mahama Ayariga, the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, said that his side of the House is not going to allow Afenyo-Markin to ask his question using the dispatch box because it was a contravention of the Standing Orders of the House.

“Mr. Speaker, can you have the Minority Leader show us which standing order he stands on to ask questions from the dispatch table? Which standing order? Because our Standing Orders are clear. At question time, the Speaker shall call successively each member in whose name a question stands on the Order Paper. The member shall rise and ask the question that stands in the name of the member on the Order Paper.

“Mr. Speaker, you should show me the basis for him always wanting to go and ask his questions from there. When every other member, including myself, stands here to ask questions. If he should go to the dispatch box to ask a question, if I have follow-up questions, will I also go to the dispatch box to ask follow-up questions? Mr. Speaker, we cannot allow this,” he said.

He added, “Why are we overindulging him? As for today, it will not happen. Mr. Speaker, he will not go to the dispatch box to ask questions. He will stand where he is and ask the question, and the minister will answer the question. It is only the minister who can go to the dispatch box to answer the question.”

The Minority Chief Whip then rose to the defence of Afenyo-Markin, challenging Ayariga to state the Standing Orders that prevent Afenyo-Markin from asking his question from the dispatch box.

Annoh-Dompreh accused the Majority Leader of being emotional over the incident, insisting the Minority Leader had every right to ask his questions from the dispatch table.

“There’s a lot of emotions that the respected leader is displaying. And he is quoting Order 88-1… I humbly want to find out from the leader, he should tell me which order allows him to make statements on the dispatch box. And where there are statements made, closing statements, when the Majority Leader speaks, the Minority Leader speaks on the dispatch box. He should tell us the order in this book,” he said.

The 1st Deputy Speaker, Bernard Ahiafor, who was presiding over the House, ruled that MPs are not to use the dispatch box to ask questions.

“Any member in his representative capacity [as MP] but not in the capacity of the caucus should rise in his or her place to ask a question, and not use the dispatch box,” Bernard Ahiafor declared.

The investment price of the Bank of Ghana’s (BoG) gold coins continues to soar, a development attributed to the Ghana cedi’s appreciation against the US dollar.

As of Wednesday, July 9, 2025, the BoG reported the following updated prices for its gold coins:

• The 0.25 oz coin is now selling at GH¢9,514.47, up from GH¢9,499.64 on July 8, 2025.

The footballer who spent 39 years in a coma after a surgery went wrong

0

Jean-Pierre Adams died in 2021, after 39 years in coma Jean-Pierre Adams died in 2021, after 39 years in coma

Jean-Pierre Adams was once one of the brightest stars of French football, a powerful centre-back who made his name in the 1970s playing for Nîmes, Nice, and Paris Saint-Germain.

He earned 22 caps for the French national team alongside the legendary Marius Trésor in the famous “Garde Noire” (Black Guard) central defensive partnership.

But Adams’ remarkable football career came to an abrupt, tragic halt in 1982 after what should have been a simple medical procedure.

That year, Adams suffered a knee ligament injury during a training session.

His club arranged for him to have routine surgery at a hospital in Lyon to repair the damaged tendon, a straightforward operation that thousands of athletes undergo every year.

On March 17, 1982, Adams checked in for surgery. But a series of human errors turned a standard procedure into a devastating nightmare.

Due to a strike by hospital staff, the anaesthetist and trainee nurse on duty that day were overwhelmed and inexperienced.

During the procedure, Adams was given an incorrect dose of anaesthesia that blocked oxygen to his brain. By the time the mistake was noticed, irreversible brain damage had set in.

When the surgery ended, the doctors waited for him to wake up, but Adams never did. He slipped into a deep coma from which he would never recover. He was only 34 years old.

For many families, such a tragedy might have ended with a quiet decision to withdraw life support. But for Jean-Pierre, there was Bernadette, his wife, who refused to give up hope for nearly four decades.

She brought him home, cared for him around the clock, fed him, turned him, spoke to him, cut his hair, and kept him dressed in his beloved PSG shirts.

“I don’t have the courage to put him down,” Bernadette told reporters years later.

She made sure his bed was always fresh and that he was never alone. Even after doctors told her there was no chance he would ever regain consciousness, she kept his memory alive for their sons, Laurent and Frédéric, who grew up with a father who was there but forever silent.

Jean-Pierre Adams remained in that coma for an unimaginable 39 years. He passed away on September 6, 2021, at the age of 73, a life paused by a single mistake but kept warm by the unwavering love of a wife who never stopped believing he might open his eyes again.

‘Shoot in the leg’ – Kenyan leader orders police to curb violent protests

0

Kenya’s President William Ruto has ordered police to shoot protesters targeting businesses in the legs, ensuring they are incapacitated but not killed.

The UN and human rights groups have accused the police of using excessive force in the recent wave of anti-government protests – 31 people were killed on Monday, according to a state-run body.

“Anyone caught burning another person’s business or property should be shot in the leg, hospitalised, and later taken to court. Don’t kill them, but ensure their legs are broken,” the president said.

He further warned his political rivals against sponsoring and using violent protests and “unlawful” means to forcibly remove him from power.

In addition to the 31 deaths, more than 100 people were injured and about 532 arrested in the protests which hit the capital Nairobi and other major cities, said the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR).

The Kenya police says that 11 people died.

The UN said it was deeply troubled by the killings and criticised the Kenyan police for using “lethal ammunition” against protesters.

But in an address on Wednesday, Ruto defended the police action, saying an attack on security forces would be a “declaration of war” against the country.

“Kenya cannot and will not be ruled through threats, terror, or chaos. Not under my watch,” the president said, vowing to “firmly” deal with those behind the protests.

He said any change of government was only possible through the ballot and not through protests, urging his opponents to wait for the 2027 general elections.

“This country will not be destroyed by a few people who are impatient and who want a change of government using unconstitutional means. It is not going to happen,” Ruto added.

There has been rising tension in the country since the death of blogger Albert Ojwang in police custody last month brought people back onto the streets, a year after young protesters stormed parliament angered by a wave of tax rises.

Rising economic challenges have fanned anger in a country where youth unemployment and the quality of jobs remain significant concerns.

Ruto acknowledged the youth unemployment crisis in the country but said the job challenges had existed long before he came to power in 2022. He said that his administration was the first to take deliberate steps to address it.

The 58-year-old leader questioned why some Kenyans have been more critical and confrontational towards his administration compared to previous governments.

“Why cause all the chaos during my time? Ruto asked rhetorically, warning against ethnic politics.

“You can call me whatever names you want to call me, but I will make sure there is peace and stability in Kenya.”

Monday’s protests were intended to commemorate Kenya’s decades-long struggle for democracy but they quickly escalated into deadly clashes in 17 out of the country’s 47 counties, local media reported.

Many of those demonstrating chanted “Ruto must go” and “wantam”, meaning “one term”, a popular rallying call demanding President Ruto leave office.

In a statement issued on late Tuesday, the KNCHR said the sharp rise in the death toll was “deeply troubling”.

“The KNCHR strongly condemns all human rights violations and urges accountability from all responsible parties, including police, civilians and all other stakeholders,” it added.

The commission also documented widespread looting and destruction of both public and private property by unidentified individuals.

Among those killed was a 12-year-old pupil who was hit by a stray bullet while at home in Kiambu, in the outskirts of the capital, local media reported.

“It is very concerning that these latest incidents come barely two weeks after more than 15 protesters were reportedly killed and many more injured in Nairobi and other parts of Kenya on 25 June,” said Ravina Shamdasani, spokesperson for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

“Lethal ammunition, rubber bullets, tear gas, and water cannons were used,” Shamdasani added.

At least two hospitals were damaged after unidentified attackers raided the facilities and stole medical equipment and harassed staff, Reuters news agency reported.

Religious and rights groups have demanded a prompt and independent investigation into the killings, destruction of property and arbitrary arrests.

Opposition leaders on Tuesday accused the government of deploying unmarked police vehicles to transport armed gangs to perceived opposition strongholds during the protests.

They called for a national boycott of all businesses affiliated with President Ruto’s administration, accusing his government of deploying state-sponsored violence and extrajudicial killings on Kenyans.

“This regime is hostile. It cannot be reasoned with. It must be resisted. We will not rest. We will not retreat. We will not surrender,” the opposition said in a joint statement.

Kenya’s Chief Justice Martha Koome has cautioned the country against the increasingly violent protests, saying they risked the nation’s democratic fabric.

Crepe Short Gown Styles for Chubby Ladies

0

Crepe material short gowns are a perfect choice for chubby ladies who want to look stylish while staying comfortable. Known for its soft texture, slight stretch, and lightweight feel, crepe fabric offers a flattering fit that complements curvy figures without clinging too tightly.

One of the most flattering styles is the A-line short gown, which gently flares from the waist to create a balanced silhouette. This cut works especially well in crepe, offering both a smooth fit and comfort. You can enhance the look with ruffled hems, pleats, or a waist belt for added flair.

An off-shoulder crepe gown is also a great option, drawing attention to the neckline and collarbones while giving the illusion of length. This style is effortlessly elegant and pairs beautifully with statement earrings.

Ruched designs are another smart choice, as they add texture and shape, subtly defining the waistline. Whether gathered at the sides or center, ruching creates a slimming effect without compromising on comfort.

For a dramatic touch, consider a crepe gown with flared or bell sleeves. These add flow and movement to your outfit while balancing a fitted bodice, giving a stylish yet relaxed appearance.

Pleated crepe gowns are ideal for providing structure while skimming over curves, making them suitable for both casual and formal settings. Pleats also add an interesting texture and visual depth to your dress.

Lastly, a V-neckline is universally flattering. It elongates the neck and directs attention upward, making the entire silhouette appear slimmer and more elegant.

Conclusion: With their versatility, flattering cuts, and elegant feel, crepe short gowns are a must-have for chubby ladies who want to dress with confidence and style on any occasion.

Ablekuma North is not a theatre for dancing – Gbande takes swipe at Akua Afriyie

0

Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has delivered a scathing critique of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, Nana Akua Afriyie, accusing her of running a superficial and uninspiring campaign.

Speaking on Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Channel One TV on Tuesday, July 8, Gbande said the NPP was underestimating the political intelligence of the electorate by prioritising entertainment and giveaways over real policies.

I Don’t Have The Strength To Be With Only One Woman – Don Jazzy

0

Don Jazzy

Nigerian music mogul and Mavin Records boss, Don Jazzy, has allegedly admitted that he doesn’t believe he has the strength or discipline to stay committed to just one woman.

Speaking in a recent episode of The Nancy Isime Show, Don Jazzy said he prefers to be honest about his stance rather than make promises he can’t keep.

According to him, telling the truth might scare some women away, but he sees honesty as more important than pretending to be someone he is not.

“I don’t believe that I am strong enough to be with only one person,” he said. “I think people will run away from me being truthful. I will not be dating you and telling you that you’re the only person.”

The award-winning producer also explained that while some people can remain faithful once they are emotionally invested in someone, he finds that difficult.

“Some people have the strength to be attracted to somebody and no one else afterwards,” he added. “But for me, the fact that you’re a beautiful lady doesn’t stop me from admiring another woman. She is also beautiful.”

Dispatch Box Row Halts Parliament Sitting

0

Parliament was thrown into confusion yesterday afternoon following a heated standoff between the Majority and Minority over the use of the dispatch box, prompting First Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor to suspend sitting.

The commotion began when the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin attempted to pose an urgent question from the dispatch box on the Minority side. However, the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, objected, stating categorically that his side would not permit the Minority Leader to use the box.

In defence, the Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, intervened, claiming that a prior ruling by the First Deputy Speaker had granted the Minority Leader permission to use the dispatch box. Acting on that premise, Mr. Annoh-Dompreh proceeded to ask the First Deputy Speaker to allow Afenyo-Markin to ask his question.

But Mr. Ahiafor swiftly denied ever issuing such a ruling. The situation escalated further when the First Deputy Minority Whip, Habib Iddrisu, stood up to insist that the Deputy Speaker had indeed made such a pronouncement in the past.

This claim visibly angered the Deputy Speaker, who demanded that Habib either provide evidence of the alleged ruling or retract the statement. Mr. Habib, however, stood his ground, insisting that he had not breached the rules of the House and thus would not withdraw his comment.

The Deputy Speaker then warned that if the Member for Tolon failed to withdraw, he would refer the matter to the Privileges Committee, citing the chamber’s status as a House of record.

Eventually, after sustained pressure and nearly ten minutes of back-and-forth exchanges, Habib Iddrisu reluctantly withdrew his comment, though the mood in the chamber remained tense.

In light of the disruption and to restore order, Mr. Ahiafor suspended sitting at approximately 3:22 p.m.

Let’s join forces to fix ‘broken’ EC – Omane Boamah to NPP

0

The Minister of Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to collaborate in efforts to reform the Electoral Commission (EC) and safeguard Ghana’s democracy.

According to Dr. Boamah, the NPP ignored multiple warnings from the NDC about flaws within the EC’s operations leading up to the 2024 elections, a move he believes has contributed to the current crisis of confidence in the electoral system.

His comments follow a declaration by NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, that the party will not take part in the rerun, accusing the Electoral Commission of defying a court order and trying to undermine the will of the people.

“The NPP is firm in its stance. Our candidate, Nana Akua Afriyie, won the election based on facts and figures. During our National Executive Committee meeting, we agreed that under no circumstances will we participate in a rerun,” he said.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, Dr. Boamah who doubles as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Director of Elections and IT, stressed the urgency of bipartisan cooperation.

“NPP: It’s not too late! Let’s work together to fix the broken Electoral Commission and save Ghana’s democracy! The NPP should have listened when we in the NDC raised several red flags about the Electoral Commission [of] Ghana ahead of the 2024 elections. It’s not too late…”

A 33-year-old pedestrian has died after reportedly being struck by a vehicle in Kasoa and later abandoned at Circle in Accra, according to a UTV Ghana report.

A journalist covering an unrelated event at Circle noticed a heavy police presence and a crowd gathering. Upon investigation, he found the body of a man who had been dumped at the scene.

Before his death, the victim allegedly told onlookers that he had been hit by a car near Kasoa New Market. Witnesses stated that after the collision, locals urged the driver to take the injured man to a hospital. Instead, the driver allegedly drove him to Circle and abandoned him there.

Police have opened an investigation into the incident, with many demanding justice and stricter enforcement of road safety regulations to prevent similar tragedies.

Parliament on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, witnessed heated exchanges over the use of the dispatch box as the First Deputy Speaker, Bernard Ahiafor, ruled that Members of Parliament (MPs) in their representative capacity are not permitted to use the dispatch box to ask questions.

The confusion erupted after the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, walked to the dispatch box to pose an urgent question to the Minister of Trade, Industry and Agribusiness, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare.

The Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, immediately raised concerns, arguing that there was no basis in the Standing Orders for the Minority Leader to use the dispatch box in this manner.

The Majority Leader insisted that the dispatch box has traditionally been reserved for Ministers responding to questions, ceremonial Heads of State addressing Parliament, and leaders of the House but not to ask a question.

“Mr. Speaker, can you have the Minority Leader show us which Standing Order allows him to ask questions from the dispatch box? this is not the practice. For so many years in this House, no Minority Leader has asked questions from the dispatch box. It is not done.”

The Majority Caucus maintained that allowing an MP to ask a question from the dispatch box would breach parliamentary practice and open the door for procedural confusion.

In response, the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, argued that there is no express provision in the Standing Orders preventing him from using the dispatch box to ask a question.

“It is my case that the invitation by the Majority Leader to you to deny me the opportunity to use the Dispatch Box to ask a question is not founded on any rule,” Afenyo-Markin contended.

“Mr. Speaker, I have gone through the rules, and where the Standing Orders intend to make something mandatory, it expressly states so. There is no such express provision requiring a member to necessarily stand at their seat to ask a question.”

The dispute led to a prolonged back-and-forth, prompting the First Deputy Speaker, Bernard Ahiafor, to call for a temporary suspension of proceedings for leadership consultations.

Upon resumption, Ahiafor delivered a ruling that sought to bring clarity to the use of the dispatch box. Quoting Order 5(1) of Parliament’s Standing Orders, he noted that where there is no express provision, the Speaker has the authority to interpret the rules.

“Honourable Members, though the honourable Minister of Trade, Industry, and Agribusiness is a Member of Parliament, she is not here to answer questions as an MP. She is here in her capacity as a Minister. The only place available for the Minister is to sit by the leader and use the dispatch box to answer the question,” Ahiafor explained.

“We all have a place to rise and speak, but Ministers do not have a place to rise and speak. The only place available for the Minister is to use the dispatch box.”

The Speaker while addressing Afenyo Markin invoked the words of Lord Denning, saying, “The law is about common sense and common sense is the law,” as he ruled that only Ministers or leaders of the House may use the Dispatch Box, not Members in their representative capacity.

Delivering his ruling, Ahiafor declared, “Any member in his or her representative capacity but not in the capacity of the caucus should rise in his or her place to ask a question and not use the Dispatch Box.”

My CD was once found at the shrine of a fetish priest

Renowned gospel musician Noble Nketsiah Renowned gospel musician Noble Nketsiah

Renowned gospel musician Noble Nketsiah has opened up about a troubling incident where a CD of his song was discovered among items purportedly “under a bind” at a fetish priest’s shrine.

In an interview with Nana Romeo on Okay FM on July 7, 2025, Nketsiah recounted how a close friend alerted him to the video showing the shrine being vandalised in Kumasi.

According to the narrator in the video, some items, including CDs were found at the scene.

“And among the destroyed items, there were some CDs of some rising artistes.

According to the narrator, the CDs were placed in a bind. Meaning the artistes the CDs belonged to would never prosper.

“Imagine my shock when I saw that one of the CDs was mine,” he narrated.

However, he remained composed, adding, “I’m not bothered, these things happen. But I know that God is and has always been by my side.”

He expressed that while others might be shaken by such claims, he remains confident in divine protection.

Former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Food Buffer Stock Company, Abdul-Wahab Hannan, has been released from the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) after spending two weeks in detention.

He was granted bail of GH¢60 million with two sureties.

Hannan was arrested on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, alongside his wife over allegations of financial misconduct during his tenure at the state-run company.

His wife was released earlier on a GH¢30 million bail.

Despite claims that he had fulfilled the bail requirements, Hannan remained in custody for several days, prompting criticism from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which described the bail conditions as excessive and unjust.

His eventual release on Tuesday, July 7, 2025, brought relief to his family, who had been waiting outside EOCO’s headquarters to welcome him.

The case remains under investigation.

Suspended Chief Justice takes case to ECOWAS court

0

Deputy Attorney General, Justice Srem-Sai, has disclosed that the suspended Chief Justice of Ghana, Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo, has filed a fresh application at the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice in Abuja, Nigeria.

This legal move seeks redress over her suspension and the process initiated for her possible removal from office.

This latest development comes amidst ongoing legal proceedings in Ghana, where three separate petitions have been filed seeking her removal. Justice Torkornoo, who was suspended by President John Dramani Mahama under Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution, has already challenged her suspension before both the Supreme Court and the High Court.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, July 8, Justice Srem-Sai revealed that the Chief Justice filed her application at the ECOWAS Court on July 4. According to him, she is invoking claims of human rights violations arising from her suspension without a conclusive determination of the petitions against her.

“Essentially, Her Ladyship argues that by her suspension, she has effectively been removed from her official capacity without a final determination, impairing her right to function and serve in a position she was constitutionally appointed to,” Srem-Sai stated.

Meanwhile, on July 1, the Attorney General filed a motion at the Human Rights Division of the High Court, seeking to strike out Justice Torkornoo’s application for judicial review. In the State’s affidavit, deposed by State Attorney Reginald Nii Odoi, the motion claims the application contains a “grave misstatement of capacity” and fails to include “mandatory and essential parties,” making it legally defective.

President Mahama has emphasized that his administration is adhering strictly to constitutional processes.

Addressing the matter recently, he said the presidency had fulfilled its constitutional mandate and was now awaiting the outcome of the committee tasked with investigating the petitions.

Justice Torkornoo’s suspension has triggered national debate, with legal practitioners, civil society organisations, and political actors—including the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Minority in Parliament—raising concerns about its implications for judicial independence.

However, government officials continue to maintain that due process has been followed and insist that the ongoing proceedings are consistent with Ghana’s democratic principles.

The final report from the investigative committee will be critical in determining whether the Chief Justice will be reinstated or permanently removed from office.

Mahama inaugurates committee to oversee handover of UGMC to UG

0

President John Mahama has inaugurated a nine-member transitional management committee to supervise the formal handover of the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) to the University of Ghana (UG).

The move marks a significant milestone in the government’s broader agenda to strengthen medical education, clinical research, and specialised healthcare delivery in the country.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Accra, President Mahama stated that the transfer was a necessary shift from operational oversight by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to full integration under the University of Ghana’s management.

“The next phase of our vision calls for the full integration of the UGMC into the University of Ghana’s governance and operational structures,” he said.

“This is not a mere administrative action. It is a strategic alignment designed to promote synergy between clinical service delivery, teaching and research; to enhance institutional efficiency through harmonized leadership and resource management; to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration between medical professionals, researchers and academics; and most importantly, to create a truly world-class teaching hospital that serves the needs of both Ghana and the wider West African sub-region.”

The transitional committee, composed of health and academic experts, is tasked with overseeing a smooth and coordinated transfer of UGMC’s governance, ensuring the facility is positioned to function as an advanced teaching and research hospital under the university’s umbrella.

International and local leaders converged at the 7th Strengthening Families Conference (SFC) 2025, emphasizing women’s empowerment and child protection as fundamental to resilient communities.

Held at the Bintumani International Conference Centre on June 26-27, the event, co-organized by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with government and civil society partners, operated under the theme ‘Building Stronger Communities through Women Empowerment and Child Protection’.

Sierra Leone’s First Lady, Madam Fatima Maada Bio, delivered the opening keynote, urging a shift from dialogue to concrete action. “Let us use this platform to design policies that will make women change-makers in our society,” she stated. The First Lady emphasized that genuine women’s empowerment yields tangible societal benefits, declaring, “Women are agents of transformation. They build up the families, and our families are what build up our society.”

Religious and traditional leaders reinforced this commitment. Elder Isaac K. Morrison, a General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, highlighted women’s indispensable role: “Women create harmonious and resilient communities. We need more women of virtue, purity, and empowerment, and this begins with the family.” Archbishop Edward Tamba Charles, President of the Inter-Religious Council, asserted religious institutions must lead on gender equality and child welfare. Paramount Chief Sheku Amadu Tejan Fasuluku-Sonsiama III stressed transformation begins locally: “When women are given a seat at the table, nations prosper.”

The conference’s second day focused intensely on child protection. Elder Alfred Kyungu, President of the Africa West Area for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, framed it as the bedrock of strong families. “Children are shaped by their experiences; hence, families must create a conducive environment that contributes not just to their physical well-being but to their emotional and spiritual health,” Elder Kyungu explained, advocating love over fear in child-rearing. Sheik Ibrahim Barrie linked women’s empowerment to Islamic teachings and community progress, while activist Grace Ada Brown powerfully linked family strength to national resilience.

A significant outcome announced by Elder Kyungu was a partnership with the Office of the First Lady to construct a 54-bed safe house for survivors of gender-based violence. “This facility will not only provide shelter but also counseling sessions to help survivors regain their footing in society,” Elder Kyungu confirmed. The conference closed with awards recognizing First Lady Bio’s leadership, presented by The Church, Sierra Leone’s Social Welfare Department, and the Government of Liberia.

Demonstrating pre-conference commitment, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints commissioned a major renovation of the Intensive Care Units at Freetown’s Connaught Hospital. Elder Morrison described the project, which included vital medical equipment like ICU beds and defibrillators, as “faith in action.” Sierra Leone’s Acting Minister of Health, Professor Dr. Charles Senessie, acknowledged the alignment with national health goals, stating, “The collaboration between the Church and the government is vital for improving health outcomes.” Dr. Ibrahim Kapuwa, Hospital Care Manager, called the upgrades “a lifeline.”

Conference organizers stated the 8th Strengthening Families Conference is scheduled for Monrovia, Liberia, in June 2026.

Ayariga criticises Afenyo-Markin over alleged intimidation of state institutions

0

The Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga has slammed the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, over what he deems as the recent attempts to use Parliament as a platform to intimidate state institutions executing their duties.

This comes in response to an attempt by the Minority Leader to condemn the Economic and Organised Crime Office EOCO for the two-week detention of the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food Buffer Stock Company, Abdul-Wahab Hannan, who is currently under investigation for suspected economic crimes.

Hannan was released by EOCO on Tuesday, July 8.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, July 8, Mahama Ayariga charged the Minority Leader to seek legal redress if Abdul-Wahab’s rights have been violated.

“I have a problem where we try to use this house as a platform to intimidate the Executive arm of government doing their work. The constitution is very clear on the remedies available to anybody who claims a violation of his/ her rights.

“The constitution is very clear. If anybody feels their rights have been violated, you go to court and you seek a remedy there,” he stated.

‘Teachers Must Have Competence & Character’

0

Francis Hull Adams, Principal of Holy Child College of Education.

Former Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Prof. Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh, has stated that teachers must possess both competence and character to effectively educate and serve as role models.

“In teaching, character matters just as much as competence. A teacher who has competence but lacks character is not a good teacher,” she stated.

Prof. Edu-Buandoh made the remarks at the 17th congregation of Holy Child College of Education and the third graduation ceremony for the Bachelor of Education cohort.

She highlighted that teaching is a profession that demands empathy, resilience, and ethical leadership, commending Holy Child College for instilling such values in its trainees.

Academic Performance

The Principal of the College, Francis Hull Adams, lauded the continuous improvement in students’ academic performance over the past three years.

He announced that the 2024 graduating class of 325 students had recorded a notable rise in First-Class honours compared to the previous year.

“In 2023, the College produced 25 First-Class graduates across all programmes. This year, the number has increased to 41, representing a remarkable 64% rise,” he disclosed.

He singled out the Early Childhood Education programme for exceptional achievement.

“In 2023, only two students from that programme obtained First-Class honours. This year, that figure has risen to 14, and the overall best graduating student also came from this group,” he noted.

Infrastructure Projects

Mr. Hull Adams also announced the completion of two significant projects on campus.

He mentioned the ‘Society of the Holy Child Jesus Hall’, a newly built hall of residence with a student capacity of 250.

The second project was the conversion and commissioning of the three-storey Kathleen Marie Hall, which was formerly a two-storey building, now increasing accommodation for students.

Challenges

Despite these gains, the College Principal noted several persistent challenges. These include over-aged operational vehicles, a poor internal road network, insufficient student residence halls, and inadequate staff accommodation.

Addressing the graduands, Mr. Hull Adams said, “As you stand on the threshold of a new chapter, celebrate your accomplishments, be proud of your achievements, and remember to thank those who supported you along the way.”

Hockey: GRA dominate 2025 T-Tommy Cup in Kumasi

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) hockey team reinforced their status as the powerhouse of Ghanaian hockey with a double triumph at the 2025 T-Tommy Memorial Tournament in Kumasi last weekend, sweeping the men’s and women’s titles in emphatic style.

The long-running annual competition — a fixture on the Ghana Hockey Association calendar for over 35 years — which was held at the Baba Yara Stadium, brought together top clubs from across the country in honour of the late Thomas Abankroh, affectionately known as T-Tommy.

A former national star and dedicated promoter of hockey in the Ashanti Region, Abankroh passed away in April 1989, but his legacy continues to inspire generations.

With the Sapholda Greater Accra Hockey League on a brief break, GRA seized the moment to underline their dominance.

The Royal Ladies, fresh from defending their Africa Cup for Club Champions (ACCC) title in Egypt earlier this year, were ruthless in the women’s round-robin competition.

They brushed aside Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and Ghana Masters with identical 2-0 wins to clinch the trophy. Ghana Masters edged KNUST 1-0 to place second.

Under the guidance of the Head of Sports, Ebenezer Frimpong, GRA’s form was just as imposing in the men’s division.

Drawn in Pool A, they edged KNUST 1-0, overcame Ghana Masters 2-1, and defeated Bompata 2-0 to top their group with a perfect record.

In the final, they comfortably dispatched Kumasi Stadium Hockey Club 2-0, who themselves had edged out Exchequers, Bibiani and Cape Coast in Pool B.

The Masters division saw Multistix crowned champions after a commanding 2-0 victory over Sapholda in the final.

Multistix had earlier prevailed over Citizens 2-1 twice in a best-of-three group decider, while Sapholda topped Pool A with narrow wins against Ghana Gas (2-1) and Kumasi Seniors (1-0).

Beyond the silverware, the tournament also provided a valuable platform for talent development.

A curtain-raiser event featuring second-cycle schools from the Ashanti Region gave budding hockey talents the chance to shine, with senior players and coaches mentoring the next generation.

Ashanti Police reaffirm commitment to fighting abuse, urge confidential reporting

0

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its dedication to combating all forms of abuse and violence through the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), assuring the public of confidentiality, professionalism, and victim-centred care in handling such cases.

This renewed commitment comes amid a steady rise in reported abuse cases, which the police attribute to increased public awareness and active discourse on radio talk shows about domestic and marital issues.

As part of ongoing public education efforts, DOVVSU has launched a new campaign titled “30 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” under the theme: “From Silence to Strength: Speak Up, Stand Up, Support.” The initiative aims to encourage victims and witnesses of abuse to speak out and seek help in a safe, supportive environment.

Unlike media discussions that often expose the private struggles of victims, DOVVSU officers have assured the public of a confidential process for lodging complaints, prioritising the dignity and protection of survivors.

Speaking at the campaign launch, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Teye Cudjoe, called on the public to report all forms of abuse promptly. He urged both men and women within DOVVSU to play an active role in ensuring that justice is served fairly.

“I will urge the men who are part of DOVVSU to help strongly in this fight because the fight is often filtered in favour of women, and understandably so, because they suffer mainly what we call physical violence. But some men also suffer,” he said.

He further stressed that psychological and emotional abuse, particularly against men, should not be ignored and must be recognised as legitimate forms of domestic violence.

Chief Superintendent Victoria Yeboaa Darkwah, Ashanti Regional DOVVSU Coordinator, revealed a rising trend in cases involving child neglect and parental irresponsibility.

She also noted an increase in psychological and verbal abuse reports, particularly from male victims—a development that, she said, highlights the need for sustained public education and expanded support services.

President Mahama declares zero tolerance for illegal gold trading

0

By Iddi Yire

Accra, July 08, GNA – President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday declared zero tolerance for illegal gold trading in Ghana.

He gave the caution in his address at the inauguration of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) Task Forces as part of measures by the Government to protect the country’s gold resources from illegal exploration.

“Let this serve as a warning to all those involved in gold smuggling and illegal trade: the law will be enforced without fear or favour,” the President said.

He noted that the Gold Board Act prohibits unlicensed trading and bans foreigners from purchasing gold on the local market.

The President said any breach of the Act could lead to a hefty fine of up to GHS2.4 million or imprisonment of five to10 years, or both.

“However, foreign entities may apply to the GOLDBOD for licenses to off-take gold or invest in refining and value addition,” he stated.

“Our message is simple—operate within the law or face the full consequences of it.”

He said through GoldBod, they were asserting national sovereignty over their mineral wealth and introducing a paradigm shift from raw extraction to value retention.

He said the GoldBod was designed to oversee, regulate, and participate directly in the gold value chain—from small-scale mining to assaying, trading, and export.

The President said the GoldBod now holds exclusive rights to purchase and export all gold produced in Ghana, except that from large-scale mining firms, where GOLDBOD still holds preemptive rights.

“Like cocoa, gold will now be consolidated, traded, and exported through a centralised, transparent system. The results speak for themselves.”

He said since its interim formation in January 2025, the Ghana Gold Board had implemented aggressive reforms, especially in the artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) sector.

“By May alone, GoldBod exported 11 tonnes of gold valued at $1.1 billion. Cumulatively, exports from the small-scale sector reached 51.5 tonnes, valued at approximately USD 5 billion,” the President said.

He said this represents a 95 per cent increase from the same period in 2024 and surpasses large-scale mining exports for the first time in our history.

Touching on responsible sourcing, traceability, and sustainability, he said beyond foreign exchange and revenue, GOLDBOD was committed to traceability, environmental sustainability, and responsible sourcing.

The President said, he had directed the Board to immediately implement a nationwide traceability system, ensuring that every gram of gold can be traced back to its verified, licensed, and environmentally compliant mine of origin.

He said GoldBod would also invest in land reclamation and ecological restoration through programmes such as “Blue Water” and “Tree for Life.”

He reiterated that it actively supports geological surveys to provide small-scale miners with credible geological data, reducing environmental degradation and improving yields.

With regards to local refining, value addition, and global integration, the President said the Government was no longer content with exporting raw Doré bars.

He said to ensure compliance with international export standards, plans were underway to establish an ISO certified assay laboratory by 2026.

He said in the medium term, Ghana would transition to bullion export and refine more gold locally.

“Additionally, we are working on establishing a “Gold Village”—a manufacturing hub for gold jewelry and ornament production in Ghana, positioning our country as a continental leader in value addition,” President Mahama said.

“To our international partners, including the London Bullion Market Association, the World Gold Council, and the OECD, we invite you to join us on this transformative journey.”

He underscored that Ghana was open for business—sustainably, transparently, and profitably.

In his charge to the Task Force, the President said they had been entrusted with extraordinary responsibility.

“Uphold the values of integrity, professionalism, and discipline. This assignment is not business as usual. It is a matter of national duty and pride. Breaches of your oath will be met with swift and lawful consequences. The Ghanaian people are watching, and so is the world,” President Mahama advised, reiterating that this was a new dawn for Ghana’s gold sector.

He said the Ghana Gold Board and its Task Force embody their renewed resolve to take control of their destiny, leverage their natural wealth, and build an economy that works for all.

Mr Sammy Gyamfi, the Chief Executive Officer of the GoldBod, said the inauguration of the GoldBod Task Force and the appointment of GoldBold Inspectors was to ensure that the mandate the GoldBod had been given was enforced to the letter for the nation to reap the full benefit of its natural resources.

Keeping it agile in Ghana – how top tech is transforming modern work

0

Allen OlayiwolaAllen Olayiwola
Allen Olayiwola

The workplace of today looks nothing like it did five years ago. Agile work models are no longer a buzzword; they are a necessity, especially in a fast-evolving economy like Ghana’s.

As remote work, flexible schedules, and tech-enabled collaboration become the norm, the question is no longer if businesses should adapt, but how quicklythey can.

To deliver on the promise of agility, Ghanaian businesses must go beyond policy. They need to embrace the right technologies that power collaboration, automation, and innovation. Here are five key technology trends reshaping the agile work landscape in Ghana and how local businesses can take full advantage.

  1. Collaboration technology – Driving connection across regions

Collaboration platforms like Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Slack have become the digital meeting rooms of today. With Ghana’s increasing remote and hybrid work culture, these tools are more vital than ever.

Microsoft Teams, for example, is continuously upgrading its features. In 2025, new updates include real-time captioning, multi-language support, and AI-driven noise suppression – all designed to make virtual meetings feel just as natural as face-to-face ones. Whether your team is spread across Accra, Tamale, or even working from home in Cape Coast, these tools allow seamless interaction, document sharing, and productivity tracking. For Ghanaian firms with regional staff or diaspora consultants, it’s a game changer.

  1. Workflow automation – Streamlining efficiency for growth

Agile working is about speed and precision. Workflow automation allows businesses to preempt delays, reduce human error, and optimise time.

Picture this: customer service queries are automatically triaged and routed to the right agent; invoices are processed without human intervention; reminders are scheduled and sent without anyone lifting a finger. This is already happening in Ghana’s banking, telecom, and e-commerce sectors. Although the initial investment in automation may seem steep, it saves money long-term by reducing the need for extra staff and enabling your team to focus on strategic work that adds real value. More Ghanaian SMEs are exploring automation tools to handle inventory, CRM, payroll, and logistics.

  1. Artificial Intelligence (AI): Empowering smart workplaces

AI isn’t about robots taking over. In the Ghanaian workplace, it’s more about making employees more effective and freeing them from repetitive tasks.

Take Intelligent Virtual Agents (IVAs), which can handle basic enquiries such as “What are your working hours?” or “How can I reset my password?” These bots never get tired, never forget a script, and offer round-the-clock support. That frees up your human staff to focus on complex customer interactions or business growth initiatives. From fintech to online learning platforms in Ghana, AI is helping create more responsive, scalable customer service experiences.

  1. Workforce optimisation – Enabling productivity anywhere

Ghanaian professionals, especially younger talent, are demanding flexibility. Agile work is about trusting your team to deliver results, not clock hours. Workforce optimisation tools help managers measure productivity, allocate resources efficiently, and spot performance gaps – all without micromanaging. With real-time dashboards, timesheet automation, and performance tracking, these platforms are helping businesses operate smarter. More importantly, they help reduce burnout, boost employee engagement, and improve retention – critical in Ghana’s competitive labour market.

  1. Ditching legacy tech – It’s time to let go

Holding on to outdated systems is one of the biggest roadblocks to agility. Yet, many organisations in Ghana still rely on legacy tech – whether it’s paper records, old software, or obsolete hardware.

The cost? Increased security risks, reduced speed, and an inability to integrate with modern platforms. In fact, clinging to legacy tech makes it harder to attract younger employees, who expect digital-first environments. Now is the time to upgrade your infrastructure, migrate to cloud services, and equip your team with tools that support modern workflows. The global phase-out of legacy systems is accelerating, and Ghanaian businesses must not be left behind.

Conclusion – The future of work is agile – and powered by tech

For Ghanaian businesses, agility is not just about flexibility – it’s about resilience, responsiveness, and relevance. Whether you’re a startup in Osu or a mid-sized company in Kumasi, adopting the right technologies ensures you stay competitive in a digital-first economy. By investing in collaboration tools, embracing automation and AI, optimising workflows, and letting go of legacy systems, businesses in Ghana can create environments where talent thrives and customers stay loyal.

Work smart. Work agile. Work with the future in mind.

‘Release CCTV footage of me sacking you!’

Angel Asiamah is the Associate Pastor of Heaven's Way Chapel and husband to Nana Agradaa Angel Asiamah is the Associate Pastor of Heaven’s Way Chapel and husband to Nana Agradaa

1 Gig, the brother of Nana Agradaa, has taken to social media to refute some recent allegations made against him by Angel Asiamah.

As previously reported, on July 7, 2025, during a Sunday church service, Angel Asiamah, who is also Agradaa’s husband, alleged that 1 Gig was claiming ownership of his wife’s property.

According to Asiamah, 1 Gig locked him and several others out of their residence.

But responding to this, a viral video circulating on social media on July 8, 2025, captures 1 Gig denying the allegations and maintaining his innocence.

He also challenged Asiamah to produce CCTV footage showing him locking up the house.

“I haven’t even been to the church premises. Besides, her church has large Chinese doors, you can’t lock those with padlocks. As for the TV station, people make a living there, so why would I go and shut it down?

“The house they claim I locked up also accommodates my niece. So how could I have sacked you, Asiamah, from that property? I dare you to bring out the CCTV footage, there’s a camera there that works 24/7. Show the footage of me locking the house and sacking you,” he stated.

1 Gig also urged the family to remain united during this challenging time rather than spreading falsehoods and sow division.

“This is the time the family should stay united. We need to bond spiritually and physically in prayer so we can bring our sister home. Instead, we’re fighting among ourselves.

“I’m shocked that my mother, stepfather, and biological brother are involved in this,” he added.

He then issued a stern warning to Angel Asiamah, asking him to stop stirring conflicts within the family.

“There is nothing you can do to bring me down. You can’t conspire with my family to tarnish my image. From day one, I’ve shown you respect. I don’t hate you.

“I plead with the public, what they’re saying is false. If it’s true, then let them prove it,” he added.

Agradaa’s 15-year jail sentence

Nana Agradaa was sentenced to 15 years in prison with hard lab or on July 3, 2025, on charges of charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretences.

The sentencing followed a viral 2022 video in which she claimed she could double money for anyone who attended an all-night service at her church in Weija.

Nana Agradaa is the Founder and Leader of Heaven Way Church Nana Agradaa is the Founder and Leader of Heaven Way Church

The Founder and Leader of Heaven Way Church, Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, has been jailed for 15 years with hard labour by an Accra Circuit Court on Monday, July 5, 2025.

Details of the full judgement sighted by GhanaWeb show the charges that were levelled against Nana Agradaa, the ones she was found guilty of, and the number of years she is supposed to serve for each of the crimes she was convicted of.

Charges against Nana Agradaa:

The full judgement of the court, which was presided over by Justice Evelyn Amoah, showed that Nana Agradaa was slapped with five criminal charges.

The charges are:

Count 1 – Charlatanic advertisement, contrary to section 137(1) of the Criminal Offences and Other Act, 1960, Act 29

Count 2 – Defrauding by false pretence, contrary to section 131(1) of Act 29.

Count 3 – Defrauding by false pretence, contrary to section 131(1) of Act 29.

Count 4 – Defrauding by false pretence, contrary to section 131(1) of Act 29.

Count 5 – Defrauding by false pretence, contrary to section 131(1) of Act 29.

The Founder and Leader of Heaven Way Church pleaded not guilty to all five charges.

Details of the allegation and amount of money involved:

The document also showed the allegation against Nana Agradaa which led to her prosecution by the state. Agradaa was accused of defrauding some of her church attendees during an all-night service and publishing videos on social media with intent to deceive the public, which she denied.

One of the prosecution witnesses, who was a member of Agradaa’s church, narrated how she tricked them by promising to double the contributions they made in 2022.

He said that she promised to give GH¢50,000 and GH¢40,000 to a group of 20 people who contributed GH¢1,000 and GH¢900 respectively during the all-night services.

He also said that after contributing GH¢540 to his group to raise the GH¢1,000, Agradaa refused to give them the GH¢50,000, saying that the contributions were meant for a ‘Kofi and Ama collection’.

He also narrated how the Founder of Heaven Way Church allegedly promised to double GH¢2,000 of her congregants, but after receiving the money, she released thugs on them after they demanded their money back.

Prison terms for each of the charges:

The court found Agradaa guilty of three of the five charges against her, namely Count 1, Count 2, and Count 3.

“In this case, on the totality of the evidence on record, the court finds that the accused published the videos with the intent to deceive the public, made false representations to the complainants, and successfully defrauded them.

“She is hereby convicted of Counts 1, 2, and 3. Prosecution did not lead any evidence regarding Counts 4 and 5. Although the said complainants filed witness statements, they did not come to testify. Consequently, she is acquitted of Counts 4 and 5,” parts of the court document read.

The sentence for Count 1 was 25 penalty units or, in default, 30 days.

That of Count 2 was 15 years’ imprisonment with hard labour.

Count 3 also attracted a 15 years’ imprisonment with hard labour.

Nana Agradaa will be serving the three sentences concurrently.

Prof. Gyampo condemns character assassination, urges national dialogue on Fake News

0

Political Science lecturer and CEO of the Ghana Shippers Authority, Prof. Ransford Gyampo, has decried the rising tide of character assassination in Ghana’s public discourse, warning that the trend discourages competent citizens from offering themselves for national service.

In a statement Tuesday, Prof. Gyampo, known for his outspoken views on governance and civic responsibility, said he remains unshaken by recent defamatory attacks on his character but expressed deep concern for the country’s future if such toxic narratives continue unchecked.

“Examine yourself before casting stones” – Duncan-Williams fires Abronye, Jon Benjamin

0

The Founder and General Overseer of Action Chapel International, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, has responded to recent disparaging remarks made against him by Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and former British High Commissioner to Ghana, Jon Benjamin.

Abronye had accused the respected clergyman of political bias and questioned his moral authority during a media appearance on Ohia TV. The comments triggered widespread backlash, prompting the NPP to swiftly distance itself from his statements.

In a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP described Abronye’s remarks as “unfortunate and unprovoked,” clarifying that they do not reflect the values, beliefs, or official position of the party.

Former diplomat Jon Benjamin also came under fire after making disparaging remarks about Archbishop Duncan-Williams in reaction to the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving held on July 1, 2025.

Responding to the criticisms on The Point of View with Bernard Avle on Channel One TV on Monday, July 7, Archbishop Duncan-Williams said he was unshaken, citing his decades of experience in ministry.

“I’m used to these kinds of media misrepresentations over the years. This is my 47th year in the ministry, and I have seen the outcome of such individuals,” he said.

“I think that people should not make any mistakes, the fact that you attack people, discredit people, and throw stones at others. For whatever reason, you think you are free, nothing has happened to you, make no mistake, it’s a lie. I have seen the implications of these things.”

He continued with a message of introspection and self-awareness:

“I have seen these kinds of people over the years and the decades, and they never end well. Before you throw stones at someone else, examine yourself. Some of these things are the hypocrisy of human nature, where everybody is guilty of something. And yet, they have the audacity to throw stones at others.

“Before you throw your stone at me, please examine yourself and see where you stand. Because where I’m wrong and guilty may not be where you are wrong and guilty. But you are guilty of something.”

Jon Benjamin’s comments—accusing the Archbishop of living lavishly on church tithes and claiming to have seen him book an entire British Airways first-class cabin for family trips— sparked significant backlash online. Many have described the remarks as disrespectful and culturally insensitive.

The former diplomat’s reaction followed Duncan-Williams’ statement during the National Day of Prayer that he dreams of a future where Ghanaians would no longer travel abroad out of economic necessity, but instead embark on leisurely pursuits like culinary tourism.

The controversy has reignited debate around public criticism of religious leaders and the boundaries of political and diplomatic commentary.

Akufo-Addo failed to deliver tangible economic results – Gbande

0

Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has criticised former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for what he described as a failure to deliver tangible economic outcomes during his time in office.

Gbande accused the former President of presiding over an economy that saw persistent depreciation of the Ghanaian cedi against major international currencies, without taking decisive measures to arrest the situation.

According to him, the recent appreciation of the cedi is a direct result of sound policy direction and leadership under President John Dramani Mahama.

He said the contrast between the two administrations highlights what he sees as the NDC’s superior handling of the economy.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Tuesday, July 8, Gbande said:

“The only reason the dollar was high was because of former President Akufo-Addo’s foreign accent. And President Mahama has a local accent, so his priority is Ghanaian. Nana Addo was using a French accent everywhere—speaking big English—but there was nothing under it.”

“So, the dollar was high. It was a reality, a fact. Nana Addo was speaking foreign accent.”

Gbande’s comments form part of a broader narrative by the NDC that seeks to contrast President Mahama’s approach with what they describe as the elitist and out-of-touch governance style of the previous administration.

Former Vice President and 2024 Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed disbelief at the death of the Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Ernest Kumi.

Speaking when he accompanied some leading party members to commiserate with the family on Tuesday, July 7, 2025, he stated, “Yesterday, during our National Executive Committee meeting, we had to cancel proceedings upon hearing the news. For me, I just cannot understand his sudden demise.

“He was a great friend, and I supported him throughout his campaign in Akwatia. In Parliament, he was one of the MPs who always stood by me. He visited me just last Friday at home, he wasn’t sick.”

Dr Bawumia was accompanied by key figures of the NPP, including Members of Parliament and party executives.

The delegation, all clad in black, was received by grieving family members, who remain shocked by the sudden passing of the first-time legislator.

The party officials took turns to sign the book of condolence and offered words of comfort to the family.

Among the delegation were the Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin; the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako; former Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu; and former MP for Tema East, Daniel Titus Glover.

The late Ernest Kumi passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025.

Chief Justice’s role too powerful, vulnerable to abuse — Prof. Prempeh warns

0

Chairman of the Constitutional Review Committee, Professor Kwasi Prempeh, has expressed concern over the excessive powers vested in the office of the Chief Justice in Ghana, stressing the urgent need for constitutional reforms to regulate them.

Prof. Prempeh noted that the Chief Justice currently wields both judicial and administrative authority over the country’s courts. This dual role, he said, creates a highly centralised system that leaves the office vulnerable to political manipulation.

Speaking at a Learning and Exchange event organised by the African Judicial Independence Fund (AJIF), Prof. Prempeh warned that the Chief Justice’s exclusive power to empanel and assign judges to cases is susceptible to abuse and can undermine public trust in the judiciary.

“The larger the court, the greater the temptation for the Chief Justice to feel empowered to empanel judges for specific cases. Even if that power is used, it must be regulated to avoid perceptions of bias. Once politicians recognise the extent of the CJ’s authority, they’ll start targeting the office,” he cautioned.

He also highlighted weaknesses in the processes for appointing and removing Supreme Court justices, urging reforms to make these procedures more inclusive and transparent.

“We need more stakeholders involved in the nomination process to prevent it from becoming the president’s sole decision, rubber-stamped by a compliant partner. As for removals, we initially overlooked this because it wasn’t commonly applied to judges. But after its use against the CHRAJ Commissioner, then the Electoral Commission, and now the Chief Justice, precedent has been set—so both processes need to be revisited,” Prof. Prempeh emphasised.

The African Judicial Independence Fund (AJIF), launched by Afrobarometer last year, aims to tackle complex judicial challenges across the continent. The fund seeks to restore public confidence in Africa’s judiciary and bolster judicial independence.

According to Afrobarometer’s Round 9 (R9) survey conducted in 39 African countries, 38% of citizens believe most judges are corrupt—an alarming indicator of eroding trust in the judicial system.
In an interview with Citi News, AJIF Fund Manager Saeed Salahudeen explained that the Learning and Exchange event was designed to foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing among judicial reform advocates and institutions across Africa.

“We’re here to reflect on the challenges we’ve overcome, the innovations we’ve seen, and to learn from our partners in countries like Angola, Senegal, Mali, Kenya, and others,” he said.

Salahudeen also hinted at upcoming interventions shaped by Afrobarometer’s findings. These initiatives will focus on strengthening judicial independence through reforms such as merit-based appointment systems, security of tenure, financial autonomy, accountability structures, and regional cooperation. Implementation is expected to begin soon.

She deserves her appointment – Free Zones CEO reveals how Bawumia’s former Aide helped NDC win power

Police exhume multiple human remains in Central Tongu shrine

0

The homicide unit of the Ghana Police Service has undertaken an operation, uncovered and exhumed multiple human remains buried in a shrine at Gblorkope in Central Tongu District.

This followed a suspected ritual murder and disappearance of 28-year-old Nelson Anyana.

The homicide investigation is a breakthrough in the alleged murder of Nelson resulting in the discovery of multiple human bones, some buried under idols in the shrine.

Six individuals have been arrested and arraigned in connection with the alleged murder of Nelson, after being declared missing.

The breakthrough came after Police Detectives from the Homicide Unit in Ho, in the company of three key suspects, conducted a search of a property believed to be used for ritual purposes.

The body of Nelson Anyana, who had been missing since December 2024, was exhumed from a Gblorkope shrine satisfying Police suspicion of ritual murder.

The Police, in their search, discovered three additional skeletal remains buried beneath different idols at the same location, as assorted human body parts believed to belong to other victims were found buried in nearby bushes, intensifying suspicions that the site may have been used for serial ritual killings.

The suspects, all residents of Mafi Adidome, are Augustina Fiawoyife, unemployed; Wisdom Hedidor, an herbalist; and Courage Bedzo, a kente weaver.

Others are Gblor Noah, also known as Ekpedzi, a fetish priest, 37; Gblor John, a security guard, 38; and Gblor Johannes, a lotto writer, 27 (all siblings) and operators of the Gblorkope shrine.

According to Police investigations, the case began when Comfort Hatse, a trader from Donkorkrom and mother of the deceased, reported her missing on December 17, 2024.

She stated that the deceased had left home on December 4 to meet the first suspect, Augustina Fiawoyife, and never returned.

It was later discovered that Augustina was in a relationship with the second suspect, Wisdom Hedidor, who had grown jealous over his ongoing relationship with the deceased and hatched the scheme to kill him, which was executed according to plan.

Around that time, the fourth suspect, Gblor Noah, reportedly earlier solicited a human body for ritual purposes in exchange for a substantial payment.

The third suspect, Courage Bedzo, relayed this request to Hedidor, who then agreed to carry out the murder.

On December 12, 2024, Augustina lured the deceased to a secluded area near DC Bungalow, a suburb of Adidome, while the victim engaged her in conversation, Hedidor and Bedzo ambushed and strangled him to death, with Augustina allegedly witnessing the act without intervening.

The third suspect subsequently contacted the fetish priest, who arrived at the scene with the sixth suspect, Gblor Yohannes and bought the deceased’s body for GH¢7,000, which was transported to the shrine in Gblorkope, where it was used in ritual ceremonies before being buried under the idols.

Following the recovery of Nelson Anyana’s remains and those of other unidentified individuals, all six suspects had earlier appeared before a District Court in Ho, charged with abetment of crime to wit murder and conspiracy to commit crime to wit murder.

Police investigators say further forensic analysis was underway based on the new discoveries to determine the identities of the additional victims and appropriate charges for the suspects.

The discovery has sparked outrage and fear among residents of the Central Tongu District, with many calling for swift justice and a broader investigation into possible ritualistic networks in the region.

The Ghana Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing the case thoroughly and ensuring all perpetrators face the full rigours of the law.

There’s nothing like money doubling in this world – Kwaku Bonsam slams Agradaa’s schemes

Nana Kwaku Bonsam is a Ghanaian spiritualist Nana Kwaku Bonsam is a Ghanaian spiritualist

Renowned spiritualist Nana Kwaku Bonsam has expressed concerns about the money-doubling scheme carried out by Nana Agradaa, which has now landed her in prison.

According to him, his decision to speak on the matter, is not influenced by Agradaa’s current legal troubles, but rather by his long-standing commitment to speaking the truth. “I will speak the truth until I die,” he declared.

Kwaku Bonsam revealed that he had previously warned several media personalities, including his close friend Big Akwes, about the deceptive “money doubling” schemes being promoted.

He shared that he and Big Akwes once recorded a video criticizing the woman, but, to his surprise, the video was later taken down from YouTube by Big Akwes himself.

“There is no such thing as money doubling in this world, it does not exist,” Kwaku Bonsam stated.

He further condemned the alleged mistreatment of the victims, stating that even if people are defrauded, they should not be subjected to violence or abuse.

“The beatings and the way people are treated are just not fair,” he stated.

Kwaku Bonsam further explained that many of the victims of the Agradaa’s practices have turned to him for help after being left disappointed and deceived.

Ahead of the interview, he said he browsed through his Google Photos and found over 20 images of people who had allegedly suffered at the hands of the Nana Agradaa.

He presented some of these images to the presenter and production team during the live broadcast.

“I, Nana Kwaku Bonsam, will never lie. I have evidence and proof of everything I’m saying,” he insisted.

Cyber Security Authority cracks down on Nigerian fraud gang in Dodowa

0

The operation led to the arrest of 25 Nigerian nationals The operation led to the arrest of 25 Nigerian nationals

The Cyber Security Authority (CSA), in a coordinated multi-agency operation with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the Police Cybercrime Unit, has dismantled a sophisticated cyber fraud syndicate operating from Sasaabi, a community along the Dodowa Road in the Greater Accra Region.

The high-profile raid, carried out on Thursday, July 3, 2025, involved a 12-member tactical police team led jointly by the Director of Operations of the Cybercrime Unit of the Ghana Police Service and senior officials from the CSA.

The operation led to the arrest of 25 Nigerian nationals, all suspected of involvement in large-scale cybercrime activities.

The joint operation team confiscated over 40 laptops and 25 mobile phones believed to have been used in orchestrating financial fraud schemes targeting victims both in Ghana and abroad.

The operation was triggered by a distress report received by the Computer Emergency Response Team – Ghana (CERT-GH) from a Nigerian national who claimed he was being held against his will and coerced into engaging in cyber fraud.

The whistleblower provided his mother’s contact information in Nigeria, through which his identity was confirmed. Subsequent checks by the CSA’s Law Enforcement Liaison Unit revealed that the individual had been officially declared missing in Nigeria. He alleged that about 20 other individuals were similarly being exploited, prompting urgent cross-border intelligence coordination.

“This operation underscores Ghana’s zero-tolerance policy on transnational cybercrime and our firm resolve to protect individuals — both Ghanaians and foreign nationals — who are exploited by criminal enterprises,” said a senior official at the CSA.

The arrested individuals are currently in police custody as authorities carry out further interrogations and digital forensic investigations on the seized equipment. Investigators are also probing potential links to larger international cybercrime syndicates.

The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening inter-agency partnerships and employing intelligence-driven strategies to secure Ghana’s cyberspace and uphold public trust in the country’s digital ecosystem.

CUTS Fires WAEC Over GH¢15 Scratch Card Fees

0

Appiah Kusi Adomako

Consumer advocacy think tank, CUTS International, has petitioned the Ministry of Education and Parliament to intervene and compel the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to scrap fees charged to students for accessing their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results online.

In a press statement issued on Monday, July 7, 2025, the West Africa Regional Director of CUTS, Appiah Kusi Adomako, described WAEC’s scratch card system as exploitative, outdated, and “bordering on extortion.”

“In many parts of the world, examination bodies do not charge students to access their results. Why should Ghana be different?” Mr. Adomako queried.

He criticised WAEC’s continued demand for students to purchase scratch cards costing between GH¢15 and GH¢25 to check their results, despite the shift to a digital platform that has significantly reduced operational costs.

“Before 2004, WAEC printed and delivered physical result slips to schools, which incurred huge logistical costs. But now, going digital was supposed to make things cheaper. Instead, about 600,000 candidates who wrote the BECE this year may end up paying an estimated GH¢9 million collectively just to view their results,” he noted.

Mr. Adomako also cited practices in other countries – including South Africa, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Kenya, and Zambia – where students access their results online for free, urging Ghana to follow suit.

SHS Placement Costs

CUTS also raised similar concerns over fees charged to students to access their Senior High School placements via the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).

“The CSSPS was introduced to ensure transparency and lower costs. Yet, students still have to pay just to check which school they’ve been placed in. This defeats the very aim of automation,” Mr. Adomako stated.

Urgent Policy Action

The think tank is urging the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service, and the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education to act swiftly and decisively to end what it describes as a “21-year-old illegal and unfair practice.”

“WAEC is not the only body that runs exams. Students who sit for ACCA, SAT, TOEFL, GRE, IELTS, and even National Service postings access their results or placements online for free,” Mr. Adomako argued.

He urged authorities to ensure that access to education remains affordable and equitable, saying, “Accessing exam results or school placements should not be a luxury or a source of revenue. It must be treated as a basic educational right.”
