‘It’s not about what favours him’ – Bawumia camp downplays claims of advantage in NPP primary

The Director of Communications for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia 2024 campaign,

Dennis Miracles Aboagye has rejected claims that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) decision to hold its presidential primary on January 31, 2026, was intended to give the former Vice President an unfair advantage.

Speaking on Joy FM on June 18, 2025, Dennis Miracles Aboagye dismissed the suggestions, insisting that Dr Bawumia is prepared for the internal contest regardless of the date selected.

“Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been through this process multiple times. For him, it’s not a question of what favours or works against him,” myjoyonline.com quoted Aboagye to have said.

“What matters is that the date has been set, the rules will be laid out, and the internal debates can begin.”

He emphasised that Dr Bawumia remains focused on engaging party delegates with his message of forward-thinking leadership and is not concerned about when the primary take place.

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the NPP officially announced Saturday, January 31, 2026, as the date for the presidential primary during a key meeting held on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.

The decision, communicated by the party’s General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua, paves the way for the selection of a new flagbearer to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.

Aboagye defended the NEC’s authority, noting that the party’s constitution grants it the power to set internal election timelines.

“As of now, I’m not aware of any decision that tilts the process in favour of one aspirant over another,” he stated.

“All aspirants, including Dr Bawumia, have an equal number of days to present their case to party delegates.”

He further argued that the focus should be on the vision and leadership qualities of the aspirants, not the date of the primary.

“The goal is not just to lead the NPP into 2028 but to provide bold leadership for Ghana as a whole.”

Ghana to digitise land records to boost investor confidence

Alhaji Yusif Sulemana is the Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Alhaji Yusif Sulemana is the Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources

The Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Alhaji Yusif Sulemana, has announced a major shift to digitise Ghana’s land records to improve land administration and boost investor confidence.

Speaking at Africa Real Estate Conference and Expo in Accra on Thursday, June 19, 2025, Sulemana outlined the government’ efforts in modernising Ghana’s land management system.

“We are undertaking a comprehensive national land records digitisation effort. This initiative includes scanning millions of historic documents, mapping land parcels using satellite imagery and drones, and establishing a centralised digital database of land ownership,” he stated.

He added that Ghana’s current manual system is time-consuming and inefficient, adding that the government’s digitisation project would provide a unified and accurate source of information on land ownership.

“Today, when you go to the Lands Commission to retrieve your records, it can take several hours. Our aim is to convert all those hard copies into a digital system that significantly shortens turnaround times for document searches,” he noted.

He further noted that the ministry is rolling out a National Land Information System (NLIS), a digital platform to transform land transactions in Ghana.

“This initiative is a game-changer. it will not only bring efficiency and transparency to land administration but also foster investor confidence and unlock the full potential of Ghana’s land resources,” he explained.

The government’s digitisation project aligns with Ghana’s broader digital transformation agenda and is expected to greatly enhance land governance and service delivery in the coming years.

Citi Business Forum timely and crucial for Agric growth – Dumelo

0

Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo, has described the Citi Business Forum as a timely and vital initiative in supporting Ghana’s agricultural and economic transformation.

Speaking at the event in Accra on Thursday, June 19, held under the theme Harnessing Agribusiness for Economic Growth: Expanding Ghana’s Agribusiness Frontiers, Dumelo praised Citi FM and Channel One TV for convening key players from both the public and private sectors to address pressing issues in agriculture and business.

“Citi FM’s timely effort in organising this programme is very crucial because we need everybody on board — both the private and public sectors,” he said.

While commending the initiative, Dumelo urged the organisers to deepen their engagement by directly connecting with individuals who venture into farming as a result of such forums. He recommended that future events include follow-up visits to participants’ farms to encourage practical involvement in agriculture.

“I also want to say that beyond this, when Citi FM is organising such programmes, the next step should be to visit individual farms. So that if all of us here decide to become farmers, Citi FM can follow up and say, ‘You, what are you farming? You, what are you farming?’ — so that we bring the practical part of farming into the conversation,” he added.

Dumelo’s comments reflect a growing call for more action-oriented approaches to agricultural development, linking policy discussions with real-world implementation and community participation.

Dafeamekpor denies restrictions on Minority’s role in Parliament’s Appointment Committee

0

The Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, has pushed back against claims suggesting the Minority in Parliament is being denied the opportunity to fully participate in the work of Parliament’s Appointments Committee.

Speaking to JoyNews, Mr Dafeamekpor dismissed allegations that the current Minority leadership is not being afforded the same latitude as their predecessors in questioning during committee proceedings.

“So to suggest that the latitude given to former Minority Leaders to ask questions is no longer available to the Minority Leader or Minority members on the committee is absolutely falsehood,” Mr Dafeamekpor stated.

He further asserted that not only has the Minority been granted a fair platform to contribute to deliberations, but they are, in fact, being accused of taking liberties with that allowance.

“In fact, we are being accused of being over-indulgent in terms of the latitude granted to the Minority Leader,” he added.

He will do well in terms of managing the economy – Freddie Blay reaffirms support for Bawumia

0

Former Vice President and 2024 Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia Former Vice President and 2024 Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia

A former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, has reiterated his unwavering support for the party’s 2024 Flagbearer and former Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, despite the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.

In an exclusive interview with Accra-based Asaasepa Radio on Monday, June 16, 2025, according to dailyguidenetwork.com, Blay acknowledged that the party leadership holds the authority to choose who will lead the NPP into the 2028 Election.

However, he maintained his confidence in Dr Bawumia, stressing that in his view, Bawumia remains the most suitable candidate to lead the party into the next electoral cycle.

Blay further expressed his belief that, if given the mandate, Dr Bawumia would perform exceptionally well, particularly in steering the economy.

He added that he is confident in Bawumia’s ability to diligently manage both economic affairs and overall governance.

“I think Dr Bawumia’s leadership is good. He will do very well, in terms of managing the economy and governance. I think I will put my bet behind him. Bawumia ticket is good. It was good in 2024 and it’s still good today, I still believe in the Bawumia ticket,” he said.

Commenting on the NPP’s loss in the 2024 Election, Freddie Blay noted that the party struggled with internal organisation and that several things didn’t go as planned.

However, he emphasised his continued faith in Dr Bawumia and expressed confidence that the party would regroup and reposition itself effectively to secure victory in the 2028 elections.

“I think we didn’t galvanise our people well and things went haywire, and that is why we didn’t win. I still have faith in him, and I think that if we do our reorganisation very well, this time, it will be easier for us to win,” he stated.

Freddie Blay also stated that Ghana remains a secular state where religious beliefs and affiliations have never influenced the selection of presidential candidates.

He firmly rejected suggestions from some quarters that Dr Bawumia’s religion played a role in the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.

He attributed the loss to a range of factors, including voter apathy, and acknowledged that the party fell short in key areas, arguing that it would have been in the nation’s interest to retain the NPP in power, citing what he described as a stronger performance under President Akufo-Addo’s leadership, as compared to the alternative offered by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The NDC, he added, in his view, has yet to demonstrate its capability to deliver on its promises.

He, therefore, urged party members to refrain from assigning blame to individuals and instead focus on rebuilding unity and reenergizing the party’s base in preparation for a comeback in the 2028 Election.

“I didn’t see the defeat coming and felt things were going to be bright. We thought Ghanaians would understand the situation due to the work the NPP government did. Nana Addo did well. This is human science and not physical science. Even if you do very well, people could vote against you. Expectations were high.

“The whole party failed and couldn’t carry members along, but these are all post facto factors,” dailyguidenetwork.com quoted him as having said.

Ghana’s climate minister makes strong investment case for African NDCs in Germany

0

At the ongoing 62nd session of the Subsidiary Bodies (SB62) in Bonn, the spotlight turned to Africa as policymakers, development partners and climate finance institutions gathered for a high-level side event titled, “The Investment Case for African Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).”

On this critical platform, the Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability of Ghana, Seidu Issifu, delivered a compelling message, stating that “Africa’s NDCs are not just policy documents — they are blueprints for survival, recovery, and prosperity. They demand urgent investment and fair financing.”

Seidu Issifu joined a distinguished panel of leaders, including Commissioner Margaret Wembeza of Uganda, Professor Anthony Nyong of the African Development Bank, Balisi Gopolang, Director of Climate Change from Botswana, and a senior official from the government of Zimbabwe.

Together, they laid bare the financing gaps that hinder Africa’s climate goals and the urgent need for scaled-up international support.

In his address, the minister powerfully underscored the centrality of climate finance to Ghana’s development and resilience.

Presenting Ghana’s updated NDCs, he outlined an ambitious but pragmatic plan anchored in 47 programme actions, 19 policy reforms, and 11 priority sectors, including health, agriculture, water resources, sanitation, oil and gas, gender, energy, and communications.

These efforts are expected to yield 8 key economic outcomes and require an investment range between $9.3 billion and $15.5 billion.

Seidu Issifu did not mince words when he called for “a rethink of the global climate finance architecture,” demanding that “investors view African NDCs as investment-ready platforms that offer high climate returns.”

He highlighted how Ghana has integrated private sector mobilisation, innovative policies, and green investment strategies across sectors to ensure real impact.

Yet, the minister was clear in stating that; “Without sustained international support and debt relief, our ambitions risk becoming rhetorical.”

In a bold and honest plea, he drew attention to the burden of debt many African nations are grappling with — debt largely accumulated, while responding to climate-induced disasters and shocks.

“We are being forced to borrow to clean up the mess caused by climate change — a crisis we did not create. Debt forgiveness is not charity. It is justice,” he stated.

The Ghanaian case was particularly striking in the transport sector, where Issifu showcased Ghana’s leadership in adaptation and low carbon transition.

Achievements include the revision of the national transport policy in response to the Paris Agreement, and the adoption of a national electric vehicles policy in 2023.

The country is offering eight-year tax rebates on public electric vehicle imports, has digitised vehicle registration, and introduced emission standards and decentralised inspections.

The Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, Seidu Issifu, also spotlighted the rise of innovative local enterprises such as KOFA, WAHU, and Solar Taxi — three dynamic companies mobilising investment into electric motorbikes and buses, leveraging carbon credit frameworks to drive private sector engagement.

In response, Professor Anthony Nyong of the African Development Bank shared tools under the NDC 3.0 implementation strategy, and reiterated the bank’s commitment to supporting bankable climate projects.

Botswana and Zimbabwe also echoed the importance of aligning NDCs with national development plans and leveraging innovative finance mechanisms.

The event served not only as a call to action but as a reminder that African countries are not waiting for solutions — they are building them.

Ghana’s presence and leadership, as expressed through Seidu Issifu’s intervention, resonated deeply with the audience.

It reinforced that with the right investment, policy backing and fair financial treatment, African NDCs can power the continent’s transformation.

As the SB62 meetings continue in Bonn, Ghana has once again positioned itself as a proactive voice for climate equity, innovation, and sustainable prosperity — and its NDCs stand as an open invitation for partnership, trust, and bold action.

‘Kissi Agyebeng should hand over Ofori-Atta’s case to EOCO, I don’t trust him’

Anthony Kwaku Boahene, (L), Ken Ofori-Atta and Kissi Agyebeng Anthony Kwaku Boahene, (L), Ken Ofori-Atta and Kissi Agyebeng

A former Deputy Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Anthony Kwaku Boahene, has called on the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, to fully hand over the case involving former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) or the Office of the Attorney General.

According to him, both EOCO and the Attorney General’s Office are capable of handling the matter, and that the Special Prosecutor appears more focused on public attention than results.

“He is just drawing attention just to create the impression that he is working. For me, I don’t trust him, he doesn’t want other investigative bodies to take up the case. He is an NPP member, who doesn’t know this in Ghana? Why didn’t he investigate Ofori-Atta for corruption during the previous administration?” he quizzed.

Ken Ofori-Atta is currently under investigation by the OSP for alleged corruption and procurement breaches during his tenure.

The OSP has re-declared him a wanted person and a fugitive from justice after he failed to appear for a scheduled investigative interview on Monday, June 2, 2025.

EOCO and the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) have reportedly launched separate, active investigations into Ofori-Atta’s financial dealings during his tenure as Minister of Finance.

“Be Bold, But Not a Bully” – Ahiafor Drops Cryptic Post After Tense Vetting Session

0

Bernard Ahiafor, First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Chairperson of the Appointments Committee, has stirred public interest with a cryptic social media post after a heated series of exchanges with the committee’s Ranking Member, Alexander Afenyo-Markin as reported by Ghana Web.

The tension started during the vetting of seven Supreme Court nominees put forward by President John Dramani Mahama.

The three-day vetting session, held between June 16 and June 18, 2025, was marred by frequent clashes between the two MPs.

Disputes often erupted when Ahiafor, wielding his authority as chairman, halted what he considered “inappropriate” lines of questioning from Afenyo-Markin.

Though the Minority Leader occasionally accepted the rulings, he was visibly frustrated, accusing the chairman of bias.

Their disagreements reached a peak on the final day of the vetting when Afenyo-Markin cautioned Ahiafor that he would eventually face similar treatment when political dynamics shift.

“I pray for patience,” Afenyo-Markin stated, voicing his dissatisfaction with what he viewed as partial conduct by the committee chair.

In what appears to be a subtle response to the friction, Ahiafor took to Facebook after the vetting session, sharing a quote by motivational speaker Jim Rohn:

“The challenge of leadership is to be strong, but not rude; be kind, but not weak; be bold, but not a bully… be confident, but not arrogant.”

The post was accompanied by an image of him at the committee hearing.

Ahiafor remained resolute throughout the sessions, asserting that he is “a man of indomitable spirit and cannot be intimidated”.

Church of Pentecost unveils new Hospital in Bolgatanga

0

The Church of Pentecost has unveiled a state-of-the-art hospital in Bolgatanga, in the Upper East Region of Ghana, as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare delivery in underserved communities nationwide. The Bolgatanga facility is among five new health centers that the Church of Pentecost is constructing across Ghana, underscoring its commitment to holistic community development.

Addressing the chiefs and congregants at the unveiling ceremony in Bolgatanga, the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, highlighted the church’s contributions to the country’s development. He indicated that the church is not committed to the preaching of the gospel of God alone, but also collaborates with the government and other stakeholders to foster the socio-economic development of the nation.

He said, “… currently, the church operates an impressive network of 12 healthcare facilities, including four hospitals and eight clinics, catering for more than 234,516 outpatients annually. With a committed staff of 1,199, these facilities deliver crucial healthcare services to our communities.

As we speak, five additional health facilities, including a Specialist Hospital in Accra, are at various stages of completion. Furthermore, just in 2024, the church generously contributed GH₵ 10,729,795.98 toward healthcare support for its members at various levels of the Church.  Alongside various initiatives in health, the Church is making substantial investments in education, water and sanitation, agriculture, skills training, and security enhancement projects. For example, in the education sector, the Church proudly operates 109 educational institutions, which include 104 basic schools, four Senior High Schools, and one university. Also awaiting commissioning is a State-of-the-art Correctional facility at Damango (adding to two already constructed and commissioned at Ejura and Nsawam) and a Police Station at Kawampe, all stemming from our security improvement project.”

The Executive Director of Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), Dr. Peter Kwame Yaboah, pledged to collaborate with the government to post qualified health practitioners to the facility to ensure quality health care delivery to the people of the region and beyond.

The Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Akamugri, in a speech read for him, expressed gratitude to the church of Pentecost for choosing to establish the hospital in Bolgatanga. She added that the government is collaborating with key stakeholders like the missionaries to deliver quality health, education, and other life-transforming infrastructure to the people of the Upper East Region.

The Paramount Chief of the Nangodi Traditional Area, Naba Yelzoya Kosom Asaga II, who spoke on behalf of the Regional House of Chiefs, pledged to provide the necessary support for the hospital to realize its full potential to the benefit of the people of the Upper East Region and beyond. He, however, admonished health workers who will be posted to the facility to uphold high standards of professionalism.

The hospital is comprised of a fully equipped Outpatient Department (OPD) with an emergency unit, separate Male and Female Wards for patient care, 2 Consulting rooms, a Delivery Ward for maternity services, a Dispensary for medication management, a theatre for surgical procedures, a laboratory for diagnosis, a public health unit dedicated to health education and prevention, Doctor’s office, Treatment and injection room, Staff washrooms, 2 changing rooms and a service power.

US resumes student visas but orders enhanced social media vetting

0

The US State Department says it will resume scheduling appointments for international student visas, but will ask all applicants to make their social media accounts public for enhanced screening.

Officials have been instructed to expand social media vetting of applicants and search for “any indications of hostility toward the citizens, culture, government, institutions, or founding principles of the United States”.

The Trump administration had halted the scheduling of student visa appointments in late May as it prepared to step up measures to restrict applicants deemed hostile to the US.

The guidelines will impact all applicants who apply for F visas, which are primarily used by students.

Applicants for the M visas, used for vocational students, and the J visas, used by exchange students, will also be impacted, a State Department spokesperson said.

Those who keep their social media accounts private may be deemed as trying to hide their activity, the department added.

“It is an expectation from American citizens that their government will make every effort to make our country safer, and that is exactly what the Trump Administration is doing every single day,” a senior State Department official said.

Officers have also been instructed to screen for those “who advocate for, aid, or support designated foreign terrorists and other threats to national security; or who perpetrate unlawful anti-Semitic harassment or violence”.

LatexFoamPromo

The move is part of a broader crackdown by the Trump administration against America’s most elite universities.

President Donald Trump has deemed these institutions too left-wing, and has accused them of failing to combat antisemitism when pro-Palestinian protests have unfolded on campuses.

Trump’s crackdown has also included the freezing of hundreds of millions of dollars in funding for universities, as well as moving to deport students or revoking visas for others. Many of those actions have been blocked by US courts.

Among the institutions scrutinised by the president is Harvard University, which had $2.65bn (£1.96bn) in federal grants frozen.

Trump has also tried to revoke Harvard’s ability to enrol international students, though that move has been temporarily blocked by a federal judge while the matter is being heard in court.

More than 1.1 million international students from over 210 countries were enrolled in US colleges in the 2023-24 school year, according to Open Doors, an organisation that collects data on foreign students.

Former National Service personnel, Deborah Seyram Adablah, whose legal battle with her sugar daddy captured massive attention, is once again making waves on social media, this time following her release from a 45-day jail sentence.

On Tuesday, May 6, 2025, reports emerged that Seyram Adablah had been sentenced to 45 days in prison for contempt of court.

The ruling stemmed from her open criticisms about the court’s handling of her case, questioning the integrity of Ghana’s judiciary and warning the judge to be fair in his rulings.

Her comments, which were played in open court, influenced the judge’s decision to issue a bench warrant for her arrest.

Subsequently, after serving the 45-day jail sentence, Deborah Seyram Adablah has posted a video on social media on June 19, 2025, announcing her return.

In the video, which quickly went viral, she boldly declared,”Back like I never left. I am back. All of you will go on low battery. You said I don’t look like I’ve been in prison, right? Oh my God! God is the greatest, and I will be back.”

Her statement has since triggered a flurry of reactions online.

While some netizens mocked or criticised her for the perceived lack of remorse, others suggested that she might need psychological support.

The video has sparked debate around accountability, media sensationalism, and mental health.

Background

Seyram Adablah first made headlines when she filed a lawsuit against her ‘sugar daddy’ Ernest Kwasi Nimako, alleging that he had breached several promises made to her during thier romantic relationship.

Among her demands were financial compensation and ownership of a Honda Civic, which she claimed he had gifted to her.

However, on May 16, 2023, the court ordered Adablah to hand over the vehicle, registered GC 7899-23, to the court registrar for safekeeping until a final judgment could be made.

Reports emerged that she had failed to comply with the court’s order.

Ablakwa details how Fred Kwarteng made $4.8m yearly by ‘illegally’ redirecting clients

Foreign affairs minister Samuel Ablakwa has accused a sacked embassy staff member of corruption Foreign affairs minister Samuel Ablakwa has accused a sacked embassy staff member of corruption

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, appeared before Parliament on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, over the alleged corruption scandal at Ghana’s embassy in Washington, DC, which led to the closure of the embassy for days.

Addressing the Members of Parliament, Ablakwa disclosed that an investigation into the scandal has shown that the main suspect in the scandal, Fred Kwarteng, earned a staggering $4.8 million annually at the expense of the state while serving at the embassy.

The minister, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu, disclosed that Fred Kwarteng, who was a contract staff member at the Ghana Embassy, made millions of dollars by illegally diverting clients of the embassy to his company, GTC, for delivery services.

“This dual role as IT contract staff and at the same time service provider, where he illegally redirects applicants to his own company (GTC), created a criminally unacceptable situation where personal interest was clearly prioritised over official duties, to the detriment of the Mission’s objectives and public’s trust.

“Investigations have revealed that on November 19, 2019, Mr Fred Kwarteng was issued a formal query when the then Head of Chancery, H.E. Genevieve Akpaloo, who is now the Head of Mission in the Ghana embassy in Tokyo, Japan, first discovered this illegal link on the website. It is curious that not much appeared to have happened after that query, as shockingly, Mr Kwarteng became bolder with his unlawful activities, which continued after more than six years,” he added.

The foreign affairs minister went on to give a breakdown of the amount of money the accused person, whom he indicated will be investigated by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), was making.

He said that from 2019, Kwarteng delivered an average of 250 visas and passports daily, charging about $30 per delivery.

He added that GTC was also charging clients of the embassy for assisting them in filing their visa application forms.

“Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the Mission adopted a fully online mailing system for visa and passport dispatch, managed by Fred Kwarteng. Under this arrangement, applicants were offered delivery options via FedEx and USPS, for which they were charged a whopping $29.75 each. Additionally, GTC also aids applicants in completing visa and passport forms, for a fee of $60.00 to $100.00 per applicant. Mr Speaker, it will interest you to know that 99% of all applicants utilised the services of GTC, meaning 99% of all applicants paid an extra $29.75. Investigations reveal that GTC dispatched between 150 to 350 visas/passports daily. Therefore, on average, about 250 visas/passports were dispatched daily by GTC.

“This implies that, on average, yearly, GTC dispatched approximately 62,500 visas/passports. Fred Kwarteng has therefore been raking in an estimated $1,859,375.00 annually for courier services alone. Therefore, Mr Speaker, you can comprehend the substantial sum he earns annually after adding fees for assisting applicants in completing their visa and passport forms, for which he charged between $60 and $100. By conservative analysis, Mr Fred Kwarteng was making about $4.8 million annually from his unlawful enterprise. It is important to emphasise that there was no share of this amount to the ministry,” the MP said.

CLGA applauds EU for funding PFM Compliance League Table initiative

Ms. Sanderine Coet delivered remarks on behalf of the European Union Delegation to Ghana Ms. Sanderine Coet delivered remarks on behalf of the European Union Delegation to Ghana

The Centre for Local Governance Advocacy (CLGA) has commended the European Union (EU) for its instrumental role in funding the 2024 edition of the Public Financial Management Compliance League Table (PFMCLT) and other governance-related initiatives.

The PFMCLT serves as a vital accountability tool for assessing the financial management practices of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs). It was officially launched at a high-level event attended by key stakeholders in Ghana’s governance and decentralisation space.

The launch was officiated by Dr Eric Oduro Osae, a United Nations Audit Advisor, who underscored the importance of transparency, accountability, and evidence-based policy interventions in strengthening local governance.

This year’s league table ranked La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly as the top-performing district in public financial management compliance.

However, notably, none of the Metropolitan Assemblies made it into the top 30, highlighting persistent challenges in urban fiscal governance. Agona East District ranked last, placing 258th out of 261 districts assessed, while three districts could not be evaluated due to prevailing security concerns.

Delivering remarks on behalf of the European Union Delegation to Ghana, Ms. Sanderine Coet highlighted the PFMCLT as a critical instrument for promoting accountability and improving financial governance.

She emphasised that the league table provides a structured mechanism for identifying weaknesses, offering data-driven insights, and informing targeted support to elevate standards across all districts.

“This initiative underscores our shared vision with Ghanaian institutions to strengthen fiscal discipline, advance fiscal decentralisation, enhance domestic revenue mobilisation, and promote efficient expenditure management,” Ms. Coet stated.

“These are essential steps towards reducing financial leakages, curbing corruption, and maximising the impact of public resources for improved service delivery,” she added.

The Centre for Local Governance Advocacy reaffirmed its commitment to working with both national and international partners to promote transparent, responsive, and accountable governance at the local level.

Ronwen Williams becomes first goalkeeper to get penalised under FIFA’s new 8-second rule

Ronwen Williams (L) getting instructions from the referee Ronwen Williams (L) getting instructions from the referee

Ronwen Williams has made an unexpected bit of football history at the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup, but not for a clean sheet or a heroic save.

The Mamelodi Sundowns and South Africa No.1 became the first goalkeeper to be penalised under FIFA’s newly enforced eight-second rule for ball handling.

The incident occurred during Sundowns’ Group F clash against Ulsan Hyundai on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, when Williams held onto the ball for 14 seconds, well over the new eight-second limit introduced by FIFA to discourage time-wasting.

As a result, the referee awarded a corner kick to Ulsan, a first since the new regulation was put into effect.

While the moment sparked confusion on the pitch, it was quickly clarified by officials and broadcast analysts, highlighting FIFA’s shift toward stricter enforcement of time-related infractions in an effort to speed up the game.

Despite the blunder, Williams and Sundowns held their nerve and went on to win the match 1-0, securing a crucial three points and climbing to the top of Group F at the tournament.

The incident didn’t prove costly, but it did leave Williams with a rather unusual claim to fame.

Williams wasn’t the only goalkeeper caught off-guard by the new rule. Yassine Bounou also exceeded the limit during Al Hilal’s 1-1 draw with Real Madrid on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, though his infraction drew less attention and impact.

The new rule, which awards a corner kick to the opposition if a goalkeeper holds the ball for more than eight seconds, replaces the previous six-second guideline, one that was rarely enforced.

FIFA has introduced this change to help reduce time-wasting and keep matches more fluid.

I want to ‘kill’ all television stations showing unauthorised movies – Shirley Frimpong-Manso

0

Ghanaian film producer Shirley Frimpong-Manso has strongly condemned television stations that air unauthorised films, describing the act as not only criminal but deeply hurtful to filmmakers.

Speaking on with Doreen Avio, the award-winning filmmaker expressed frustration over the widespread disregard for copyright laws in Ghana’s media landscape.

“I want to kill all of them. I have a personal concern and I do not watch pirated stuff — I don’t care,” she said passionately. “People have said, ‘Oh, have you seen it?’ I said no. They said, ‘Oh, use this link and you can watch it.’ I never do because I know how much it hurts to spend.”

Frimpong-Manso highlighted the intense labour and financial cost involved in producing films, stressing that each production is a demanding endeavour requiring significant resources.

“Movie making is excruciating — the money, having to have 30, 40-plus people on set every day, feeding them — it’s a lot,” she explained. “Even a five or ten-day production involves feeding everyone breakfast, lunch, and sometimes dinner. The emotional, financial, and logistical investment is massive.”

She described the emotional devastation of having those efforts undermined by piracy.

“To be able to put that movie out and have somebody just take it and show it… I can’t begin to describe it. It hurts more than anything in the world.”

Frimpong-Manso also questioned the lack of accountability and enforcement despite clear evidence of wrongdoing by media houses that air pirated content.

“I don’t understand why we know who the culprits are, and somehow they’re still out there doing it,” she said. “This is something we can’t keep warning people about — it’s a criminal offence. There’s evidence. I don’t understand why we’re babysitting this kind of thing.”

Her comments have sparked renewed calls within the industry for stricter enforcement of intellectual property laws and greater respect for the work of Ghanaian creatives.

“With Just 13% More, Kennedy Will Cross the Line” – Campaign Team Sparks MP Support Row

0

Tensions are mounting within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the camps of Kennedy Agyapong and former Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia jostle for dominance ahead of the party’s 2026 flagbearer election as per reports from ModernGhana on Thursday, June 19, 2025.

The two frontrunners are now locked in a fierce contest over who commands the most support from the party’s Members of Parliament (MPs).

A member of Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign, Dr. Palgrage Boakye-Danquah, has claimed that at least 50 MPs are backing the former Assin Central legislator.

Speaking on Accra-based AsaasePa FM, he said internal projections showed that Agyapong had already secured 37% of grassroots support. According to him, “With just 13% more, he will cross the line.”

He further suggested that the Vice-President’s influence is waning, pointing to emerging contenders like Bryan Acheampong and Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum as signs of fragmentation within Bawumia’s base.

However, in a swift rebuttal, Dr. Bawumia’s camp rejected the claims. Krobea Kwabena Asante, an aide to the Vice-President, posted on Facebook that 67 out of the approximately 88 NPP MPs are aligned with Dr. Bawumia.

He added that only a handful are neutral or supporting other candidates.

The party’s leadership recently announced January 31, 2026, as the date for the presidential primaries, setting the stage for months of intense internal campaigning.

In addition to Bawumia and Agyapong, others such as Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Bryan Acheampong, and Kwabena Agyei Agyapong are reportedly considering a run for the flagbearer position, indicating a competitive race ahead for the ruling party.

I Haven’t Retired From Int’l Football – Baba Rahman

0

Baba Rahman

Ghana defender, Baba Rahman, has clarified that he has not retired from international football despite his long absence from the Black Stars.

The former Chelsea left back has been out of the senior national team since November 2023 after he was subjected to boos by fans during the last round of games of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against the Central African Republic at the Baba Yara Stadium.

After the barbaric act, the POAK defender took a break from the national team, citing both emotional and physical reasons.

Speaking to Joy Sports, Baba Rahman opened up about his decision and reaffirmed his commitment to a return.

“The booing didn’t affect me during the match, as a professional, you learn to deal with that. But after the final whistle, as I walked to the team bus, it really sank in,” he said.

“We had just won, so naturally, I expected some joy or support, but instead, I was still being booed. That part was tough to take.”

Baba Rahman explained that the decision to step away wasn’t only emotional but also necessary for his physical well-being.

“I hadn’t been fully fit for a while, and I felt it was the right time to focus on my body and recover properly. As for the incident at the stadium, I’ve moved on. It’s part of football, and I understand.”

He also confirmed his intentions to return to the national team.

“I’ll be back soon, God willing. I’ve stayed in regular contact with the coach. It’s just been unfortunate timing at every international break, something seems to come up with my fitness. But I’m working hard, and I’ll be ready.”

Sunyani Traditional Council suspends Queenmother over disputed enstoolment

0

The succession dispute in the Sunyani Traditional Area has taken a dramatic turn with the indefinite suspension of the Paramount Queenmother, Nana Akosua Duaa Asor Sika Brayie II.

The Sunyani Traditional Council, which announced the suspension with immediate effect, has also barred the Queenmother from performing any public duties on behalf of the council.

Her suspension follows her alleged involvement in the enstoolment of Dr Osei Tutu as Omanhene of the Sunyani Traditional Area to succeed the late Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri II, who passed away in July 2022 and was buried in April 2024.

Caution to the public

At a press conference, the Acting President of the Sunyani Traditional Council, Nana Kwaku Sarbeng Ababio II, cautioned the public and all institutions—especially the media—against engaging the Queenmother in any official capacity.

“The Nananom of the Sunyani Traditional Area/Council hereby inform all state institutions, the media, and the general public that Nana Akosua Duaa Asor Sika Brayie II has been suspended indefinitely from her position as the Paramount Queenmother of Sunyani,” he stated.

Nana Ababio, who also serves as Akwamuhene, urged stakeholders to treat the communiqué with urgency and seriousness, emphasising the Council’s commitment to preserving the integrity of traditional leadership.

Monday incident

It was alleged that in the early hours of Monday, the suspended Queenmother used some “mecho men” in an attempt to overpower private security personnel at the Sunyani Old Palace, in a bid to install her preferred candidate—despite the Traditional Council having already enstooled Odeefuo Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II as the legitimate successor.

However, private security reportedly thwarted the attempted takeover after an exchange of gunfire. When the plan to seize the palace failed, the Queenmother allegedly conducted a separate installation ceremony at her private residence in Baakoniaba.

LatexFoamPromo

Dr Osei Tutu, a 63-year-old US-based Doctor of Physical Therapy, was reportedly given the stool name Ofentemfrem Omenasono Dr Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri III.

Council’s position

Nana Ababio described the Queenmother’s actions as an affront to the customs and traditions of the Traditional Council.

“What transpired is a clear affront to our customs and traditions, bringing public ridicule upon the Boahen Korkor Stool,” he said.

He added that her conduct was not only disrespectful but also a threat to the dignity of traditional leadership.

“This behaviour undermines the integrity of our leadership and affects the very fabric of our community,” he noted.

Only one recognised Chief

Nana Ababio emphasised that Odeefuo Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II remains the only legitimate chief of the Sunyani Traditional Area.

“There is no other chief in the Sunyani Traditional Area other than Odeefuo Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II,” he said.

“This has been affirmed by the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, which dismissed the interlocutory injunction filed by the Queenmother on April 8, 2025.”

He described the enstooled chief as a unifier and a peacemaker who had made efforts to reconcile all factions, including those who initially opposed his installation.

Installation ‘illegal’

Commenting on the purported installation of Dr Tutu, Nana Ababio described it as illegal and baseless.

He revealed that Dr Tutu had been one of seven aspirants for the stool but was rejected by the Kingmakers for failing to prove his lineage.

“The Queenmother has no authority to appoint anyone as chief,” Nana Ababio stressed.

“Recent events at Baakoniaba claiming to install an imposter are not recognised by us. This act is not only illegal but deeply disrespectful.”

He said the Queenmother’s actions represented a gross disregard for the authority of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs and the Traditional Court.

“Such indiscipline will not be tolerated by the Chiefs of the Traditional Council. Nananom have made a firm decision in response to these events. We will not allow the integrity of our chieftaincy to be undermined,” he warned.

He urged the public to treat any claim to the contrary with “utmost contempt.”

CBF Forum: Agriculture is Ghana’s economic backbone

0

Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo, has highlighted agriculture as the foundation of Ghana’s economy and called for a renewed national focus on unlocking its full potential.

Speaking at the Citi Business Forum held on the theme Harnessing Agribusiness for Economic Growth: Expanding Ghana’s Agribusiness Frontiers, in Accra on Thursday June 19, he said Ghana was at a turning point where agriculture can drive massive economic growth — not just through farming, but through related industries such as agro-processing, value addition, research, and market development.

“Ghana’s economic backbone has always been agriculture. Today, we stand at a pivotal moment, poised to unlock its immense potential,” he stated.

He continued: “The opportunities in agribusiness go far beyond planting and harvesting. They lie in value addition, environmental management, and creating efficient market linkages. This is where our collective expertise truly comes into play.”

Mr. Dumelo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming the agricultural sector through major initiatives, including the Feed Ghana Programme, which seeks to increase productivity, strengthen agricultural value chains, and create jobs — particularly for the youth.

He also spoke about the Youth in Agriculture Programme (YIAP), which aims to make farming more appealing to young people by providing inputs, technical training, and support to turn agriculture into a sustainable business venture.

“The goal is to rebrand agriculture and motivate young people to see it as a lifelong, profitable career,” Dumelo emphasised.

Adutwum least favoured among NPP flagbearer aspirants – Elvis Darko

0

Editor of The Newscenta newspaper, Elvis Darko, has cast doubt on the presidential ambitions of Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, describing him as the least likely to succeed among the current contenders in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer race.

This follows Dr. Adutwum’s official announcement on June 18, 2025, that he will contest for the flagbearer position of the NPP. The former Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe joins a growing list of aspirants that includes Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, and Kennedy Agyapong.

Speaking on Breakfast Daily, Mr. Darko noted that Adutwum lacks the internal political strength and grassroots visibility required to win the race.

“Against the three, he is the one with the least chance,” he stated.

“This is an internal political election, and in terms of internal politics, there are dynamics you have to weigh carefully to determine your chances.”

Mr. Darko emphasised that while Dr. Adutwum has held public office, his connection to the party’s grassroots is relatively weak.

“Dr. Adutwum, we all know, had not been in Ghana for a long time. He came in, won a parliamentary seat, and served in government. But if you want to be the flagbearer of a political party, you need to measure the level of your support—especially among MPs who are closely connected to the grassroots,” he explained.

He questioned how much influence and engagement Dr. Adutwum has had within the party’s structures.

“If you go to all the polling stations of the NPP, how many people has he directly impacted? When we talk about those who hold the party dear or are actively involved in party-building at the local level, I haven’t seen Adutwum’s name come up.”

“This Could Never Happen Under Nkrumah or Rawlings” – Kwesi Pratt Slams Israeli Envoy’s Comments

0

Veteran journalist Kwesi Pratt Jnr has strongly criticised Israeli Ambassador to Ghana, Roey Gilad, over comments made concerning Ghana’s abstention from a recent vote at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) meeting in Vienna as reported by Ghana Web.

Gilad had expressed disappointment at Ghana’s decision to abstain from the vote on Iran’s nuclear compliance and suggested the country reconsider the alignment with global blocs like the African Union and the Non-Aligned Movement.

He questioned whether Ghana’s position truly served the national interest.

In a sharp response on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana, Pratt condemned the ambassador’s remarks as a serious breach of diplomatic conduct, describing them as an attempt to dictate Ghana’s foreign policy.

“The Israeli ambassador in Ghana is teaching our government how to behave in international relations? Who is he to determine Ghana’s interests?” he queried.

Pratt argued that Gilad’s comments amounted to interference in the country’s internal affairs, stressing that only Ghanaians had the right to influence such decisions.

He added that previous leaders like Kwame Nkrumah, Ignatius Kutu Acheampong, and Jerry John Rawlings would never have tolerated such remarks.

“This could never have happened under Nkrumah, Acheampong or Rawlings,” Pratt insisted, calling on the government to defend the nation’s sovereignty with urgency.

While Gilad acknowledged Ghana’s sovereign right to abstain, he questioned the implications of such neutrality, especially given Israel’s contributions to Ghana’s development in areas like agriculture and trade.

Despite this, Pratt maintained that Ghana must stand firm and independent, stating that national dignity must be safeguarded against any perceived external pressure.

Shirley Frimpong-Manso speaks out against movie piracy Shirley Frimpong-Manso speaks out against movie piracy

Ghanaian filmmaker Shirley Frimpong-Manso has criticised television stations that show movies without the owners’ permission.

In an interview on Hitz FM, the movie producer described such actions as criminal. She expressed frustration over the issue of piracy, which affects the movie industry.

Shirley, while discussing how piracy has hurt filmmakers in Ghana, shared how much the illegal airing of movies upsets her. According to her, she doesn’t watch pirated films, even when people send her links.

“I want to kill all of them. I have a personal concern and I do not watch pirated stuff, I don’t care. People have said, ‘Oh, have you seen it?’ I said no. They said, ‘Oh, use this link and you can watch it.’ I never do because I know how much it hurts to spend,” she said.

She explained that making a movie involves a lot of time, effort, and money, such as hiring a large crew to providing meals and managing logistics.

“Movie making is excruciating, the money, having to have 30, 40-plus people on set every day, feeding them, it’s a lot. Even a five or ten-day production involves feeding everyone breakfast, lunch, and sometimes dinner. The emotional, financial, and logistical investment is massive,” she explained.

She added that it is heartbreaking to see a movie you worked so hard on being aired without permission.

“To be able to put that movie out and have somebody just take it and show it… I can’t begin to describe it. It hurts more than anything in the world,” she stated.

Shirley also questioned why the people behind these illegal broadcasts are not being punished. She called for stricter actions to be taken against them.

“I don’t understand why we know who the culprits are, and somehow they’re still out there doing it. This is something we can’t keep warning people about, it’s a criminal offence. There’s evidence. I don’t understand why we’re babysitting this kind of thing,” she added.

Over 60 NPP MPs declare support for Bawumia to become flagbearer

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia receives massive support from NPP MPs to become flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia receives massive support from NPP MPs to become flagbearer

Nearly seventy (70) Members of Parliament of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Thursday, June 19, 2025, called on former Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia at his office in Accra and declared their support for him.

Dr Bawumia, who has declared his intention to contest the NPP flagbearership again, received a major boost during the visit as the MPs pledged their allegiance to him.

The NPP, on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, scheduled their presidential primary for January 31, 2026.

The declaration of support from more than two thirds of the party’s MPs just days after the announcement is a bold statement to the former Vice President who led the party to the 2024 elections.

Dr. Bawumia still enjoys support from the party’s grass roots; many people have called for him to be retained as the party’s flagbearer in line with the party’s tradition of giving presidential candidates another opportunity after first failed attempt at winning the general elections.

Those advocating for the retention of Dr Bawumia as flagbearer reference the enduring stories of former Presidents, John Agyekum Kufuor, who was nominated twice and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who was also backed three times before eventually winning the general elections on his third attempt.

Dr. Bawunia warmly welcomed the MPs, expressing gratitude to them for their visit and support.

Daniel Fahene Acquaye highlights immense job creation in Ghana's agric sector, for youth Daniel Fahene Acquaye highlights immense job creation in Ghana’s agric sector, for youth

Daniel Fahene Acquaye, CEO of Agri-Impact Group, has highlighted the immense job creation potential in Ghana’s agricultural sector, particularly for the youth.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on June 19, 2025, he emphasised that the HAPPY Program aims to create opportunities across the agricultural value chain.

According to Acquaye, strategic investments in local production can transform Ghana’s reliance on food imports into a powerful engine for employment.

“If we invest in local production, we can create massive job opportunities. For instance, the $600 million spent on rice imports could translate to over a million jobs in rice production alone, if infrastructure development is prioritized and private sector investment is encouraged,” he said.

To unlock this potential, he calls for strong agribusiness anchor champions within the private sector to complement government efforts in agricultural infrastructure development.

By partnering with the government, private sector entities can leverage their expertise, resources, and networks to maximize the impact of infrastructure investments.

This collaborative approach to him, would enable Ghana to tap into the full potential of its agricultural sector, creating new opportunities for economic growth and development.

The Communication Director of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Mohammed Amin Lamptey, has said that the body is preparing a comprehensive report on some of the wrongs that happened during the “Battle of the Beasts” boxing event.

“The last fight is something where things really went wrong. We wouldn’t want to put anything in the public domain for now. We want to come out with a comprehensive report on that fight so that Ghanaians understand where we are coming from,” he said.

He also noted that the association will organise a press conference to reveal details of the email the British Boxing Board of Control sent to them regarding Sharaf Mahama’s boxing event.

“So, for now, with regards to what the British Boxing Board of Control wrote to us, it is an email that they are trying to verify to take up with the Ghana Boxing Authority. I’ll give you the details later,” he added.

Timeless Damask Outfit Styles for Women

0

Damask fabric has long been associated with royalty, sophistication, and luxury. Known for its intricate patterns and rich texture, damask is a popular choice for elegant occasions such as weddings, traditional engagements, church services, and special celebrations. With its natural sheen and durability, damask outfits not only look regal but also last for years, making them a worthy addition to any stylish woman’s wardrobe.

1. Damask Gowns:

Floor-length damask gowns are perfect for formal events. Whether styled with off-shoulder necklines, dramatic sleeves, or mermaid cuts, these gowns radiate class and femininity. Rich colors like gold, emerald, wine, or navy blue enhance the fabric’s luxury feel.

2. Damask Kaba and Slit:

Traditional yet fashionable, damask kaba and slit styles are ideal for women who love to blend culture with elegance. You can opt for flared or pencil slits paired with structured or peplum blouses for a chic and graceful appearance. Lace or beaded accents often complement the damask beautifully.

3. Short Damask Dresses:

For cocktail parties or semi-formal occasions, short damask dresses offer a youthful and trendy vibe. A-line or wrap styles with puff sleeves or ruffles make the outfit pop while maintaining a polished look.

4. Damask Skirt and Blouse Sets:

These sets are versatile and can be styled in multiple ways. A fitted damask skirt with a matching or contrasting blouse, perhaps in satin or lace, provides a balanced and elegant ensemble.

5. Accessories to Match:

Since damask already makes a statement, pair it with subtle accessories—neutral heels, simple jewelry, and a stylish clutch work best.

Damask outfits are a true celebration of grace and tradition. With the right style, any woman can stand out in damask, radiating royalty and confidence effortlessly.

Revive dormant food processing factories – Prof. Kanton urges govt

0

Renowned agricultural scientist, Professor Roger Kanton, has called on the government to urgently revive dormant food processing factories across the country as part of efforts to strengthen Ghana’s agribusiness sector and reduce post-harvest losses.

Speaking at the Citi Business Forum on the theme Harnessing Agribusiness for Economic Growth: Expanding Ghana’s Agribusiness Frontiers, Prof. Kanton stressed the need for practical steps to add value to local produce through sustainable agro-industrial development.

“Revive food processing facilities such as the sugar factory, tomato factory, rice factories, and meat factories to add value to our farm produce and reduce waste,” he said.

He questioned the commitment to industrialisation, noting that past efforts such as One-District-One-Factory (1D1F) and One-Village-One-Factory have not translated into the revitalisation of once-functional state-established factories.

“How do you build local industries when you are killing people who put their money in factories that are processing food in the country?” he asked.

“You talk about One-District-One-Factory, or One-Village-One-Factory, but you can’t even maintain the ones that were established in the past, especially by Kwame Nkrumah. None is operating. Why is that the case?”

Prof. Kanton cited several examples, including the Komenda Sugar Factory, rice mills in Bawku and Tamale, and cotton processing facilities, all of which he said are lying dormant despite their strategic importance to the agriculture value chain.

He expressed hope that the government’s proposed Resetting Agenda will include a comprehensive overhaul of the agriculture sector, particularly in restoring the country’s agro-industrial base.

“There is more to reset in the agric sector, and I am hoping that under the government’s Resetting Agenda, they will look at that,” he added.

Sam Altman says Meta is offering $100 million to poach his employees

0

Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta offered employees of rival OpenAI signing bonuses of $100 million to switch companies, according to Open AI CEO Sam Altman.

“They started making giant offers to a lot of people on our team,” Altman said Tuesday on the “Uncapped” podcast hosted by his brother Jack. “You know, like $100 million signing bonuses.”

Altman said that Meta’s attempts to poach his staff have failed, at least so far.

“None of our best people have decided to take them up on that,” Altman said.

Meta declined to comment on the report.

The OpenAI CEO criticized Meta, saying that “their current AI efforts have not worked as well as they have hoped and I respect being aggressive and continuing to try new things.”

“There’s many things I respect about Meta as a company, but I don’t think they’re a company that’s great at innovation,” Altman continued. “I think we understand a lot of things they don’t.”

The revelation comes amid reports that Zuckerberg is personally recruiting for a new team to achieve “superintelligence” machines that are capable of surpassing human capabilities.

Zuckerberg is reportedly so frustrated with Meta’s efforts in the AI space that he has taken it upon himself to meet with experts in the field at his homes and has reportedly shifted the layout of the company’s Menlo Park headquarters to put the new team near his office, according to Bloomberg and the New York Times.

Last week, Meta announced a $14.3 billion investment for a 49% stake in Scale AI to help Zuckerberg’s ambitions, including the hiring of the 28-year-old founder and CEO Alexandr Wang. Some employees from Scale AI will join Meta as part of the deal.

Over the past few years, Zuckerberg has pushed increasingly further into repositioning Meta into an AI powerhouse with mixed success. His intensity in the area has sharpened following the leaps in advancement from OpenAI, a rival that raised tens of billions of dollars in funding.

The people of Aburi last Saturday witnessed the installation of Ruth Nyarko as queen mother for the Aburi Traditional Area in the Eastern Region with the stool name Nana Abena Osompahemea (Awo Abena Afumwaa).

Apart from the traditional council, the ceremony also brought together friends, family members and kingmakers from Aburi and surrounding communities, who welcomed guests with the rich culture of the area.

A traditional rite was also performed as part of ushering the queen mother into the royal fold of Aburi, which entailed parading her shoulder high through the principal streets of Aburi.

Nana Abena Osompahemea, who is known in private life as Ruth Nyarko and a businesswoman based in Accra, will among other duties serve the royals at the palace and also support the development of the area.

Otoobour Djan Kwasi II, Chief of Aburi (Aburihene), who outdoored the newly installed queen mother at a durbar at Ohenboboano (Palace grounds), congratulated Nana Abena Osompahemea for accepting the role to help in the development of Aburi and surrounding communities.

“They Haven’t Learnt Anything” – Obiri Boahen Slams NPP Over 2024 Election Loss

News Hub Creator1h

A former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, has expressed strong disappointment over what he perceives as the party’s continued disregard for internal reforms following the poor performance in the 2024 general elections as per reports from Ghana Web on Thursday, June 19, 2025.

In an interview granted on June 17, 2025, Obiri Boahen stated that the NPP’s failure to prioritize fundamental responsibilities such as member registration and proper documentation indicates a lack of seriousness within the party’s ranks.

He argued that any political organization genuinely eager to return to power would have already taken steps to strengthen its base.

According to him, the party should be actively mobilizing its grassroots by issuing membership cards and establishing a credible register, rather than engaging in premature jostling for leadership roles.

“Are you sure they have learnt lessons? Because if they had learnt lessons, they would have started vigorously campaigning for the registration of members and issuance of party cards,” he said.

Obiri Boahen criticised the conduct of some members who are more focused on personal ambitions than the party’s recovery.

He questioned the logic behind individuals campaigning for positions without ensuring that a legitimate electoral process can take place within the party.

“As incoming, who is going to vote for you? What register are you going to use? What album are you going to use?” he asked.

Over 60 MPs storm Bawumia’s office to support his bid for 2028 election

0

More than 60 Members of Parliament from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are currently gathered at the office of former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to affirm their support for his anticipated bid to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.

The MPs, drawn from various constituencies across the country, are reported to have held a closed-door meeting with the former Vice-President on Thursday afternoon.

This show of solidarity follows the NPP’s recent decision to hold its presidential primary on 31st January 2026.

The move, announced after a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Tuesday, 17 June, is aimed at giving the party ample time to prepare for the next general elections and to unite around a chosen flagbearer.

Dr Bawumia, who was the party’s presidential candidate in the 2024 elections, is widely expected to contest again.

Sources close to the meeting say the MPs expressed confidence in Dr Bawumia’s leadership and urged him to formally declare his intention to run.

“We believe he remains the best hope for our party’s future, and we are ready to stand firmly behind him,” one MP who attended the meeting told journalists on condition of anonymity.

The gathering at the former Vice-President’s office is seen as an early indication of the momentum building around his expected candidacy.

While Dr Bawumia has yet to officially announce his decision, Thursday’s strong show of support from NPP lawmakers suggests he continues to command significant influence within the party.

From L to R: Businessman Abu Trica, socialite Hajia4Reall and dancehall musician, Shatta Wale From L to R: Businessman Abu Trica, socialite Hajia4Reall and dancehall musician, Shatta Wale

Following the arrest of Ghanaian businessmen Kofi Boat, Dada Joe Remix, and others in connection with a romance scam, several entertainment personalities have become the subject of intense online discussion.

On June 18, 2025, reports emerged that Kofi Boat is facing extradition by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for his alleged involvement in a romance scam and money laundering.

Prior to Kofi Boat’s reported arrest, documents released by the FBI confirmed that businessman and socialite Dada Joe Remix had been apprehended by U.S. authorities and formally charged.

In the wake of these developments, Shatta Wale, Abu Trica, and Hajia4Reall have been trending on X.

Here’s why:

Abu Trica

Abu Trica has been trending since June 18, 2025, as netizens are calling on the FBI to investigate the source of his wealth.

Over the years, multiple viral videos have shown Abu Trica clearing high-end luxury vehicles from the port, including a Lamborghini Urus, Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG, Range Rover, and BMWs. Known as a businessman and real estate investor, his lavish lifestyle has long been a topic of speculation.

Many online users now suspect that Abu Trica could be connected to fraudulent activities and are urging authorities to place him under investigation.

Hajia4Reall

Hajia4Reall, a socialite and musician previously convicted in the U.S. for her involvement in a romance scam in 2023, is also trending.

Social media users are speculating that she may be cooperating with the FBI.

According to these unconfirmed claims, her sentence was allegedly reduced in exchange for providing information about other suspects, including Kofi Boat and Dada Joe Remix.

While no official statement has confirmed this, the speculation has fuelled renewed online attention on her.

Shatta Wale

Dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale, has found himself at the centre of online discussions due to his known associations with both Kofi Boat and Hajia4Reall, whom he has publicly referred to as his “godparents.”

Some netizens believe he could be implicated in the ongoing investigations and are calling on the FBI to probe the musician as well.

However, in a video response, Shatta Wale denied all allegations, asserting that his wealth comes solely from his music career, not fraud.

La Dade-Kotopon leads nation in Public Financial Management Compliance

0

Professor Vladimir Antwi-Danso Professor Vladimir Antwi-Danso

The La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA) has emerged as the top-performing municipal assembly in Ghana’s 2024 Public Financial Management Compliance League Table (PFMCLT), achieving a remarkable score of 57.5%.

This places LaDMA ahead of 261 other assemblies nationwide and highlights its unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and sound fiscal governance.

The 2024 PFMCLT was officially launched by the Centre for Local Governance Advocacy (CLGA), with funding support from the European Union (EU). The initiative is designed to assess and rank Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) based on their adherence to public financial management standards, including planning, budgeting, procurement, accounting, and auditing.

At the launch event held in Accra, the Deputy Executive Director of CLGA, Gladys Gillian Naadu Tetteh, emphasised the importance of the rankings in strengthening local governance.

“This league table is not just about numbers, it is a call to action. It holds our local governments accountable and encourages continuous improvement,” she stated.

She further noted that the national average compliance score rose to 33%, a significant improvement from the previous year’s 22%.

“We are encouraged by the steady progress being made in financial governance at the local level,” she added.

LaDMA’s success has been attributed to its robust financial planning, regular internal audits, and active citizen engagement in budgetary processes.

The assembly’s leadership has been praised for fostering a culture of fiscal discipline and setting a benchmark for other MMDAs to emulate.

The event brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development; the European Union; development partners; the Parliamentary Select Committee; and other dignitaries.

The chairman of the event, Professor Vladimir Antwi-Danso, in his closing remarks, commended LaDMA for its exemplary performance and urged other assemblies to rise to the challenge.

“Though only 4.5% of MMDAs scored above the 50% benchmark, this should serve as motivation for all to strive for excellence in public financial management,” he said.

The PFMCLT continues to serve as a vital tool for promoting good governance, efficient resource utilisation, and public trust in local government institutions. LaDMA’s achievement not only reflects its internal strength but also signals a broader shift toward improved financial accountability across Ghana.

Andre Onana pays surprise visit to Burkina Faso President Ibrahim Traoré

Andre Onana (L) paid a visit to President of Burkina Faso, Ibrahim Traore (R) Andre Onana (L) paid a visit to President of Burkina Faso, Ibrahim Traore (R)

Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana paid a surprise visit to Burkina Faso’s president, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, as part of his off-season break.

The Cameroonian shot-stopper, whose future at Old Trafford remains uncertain, is currently spending part of his summer in the West African nation.

During the visit, Onana presented a signed Manchester United jersey to President Traoré and expressed his appreciation for the warm hospitality extended to him.

The meeting, though unscheduled, was described by both parties as cordial and meaningful.

“I had the honour of being received by His Excellency Ibrahim Traoré, President of Burkina Faso and Head of State. A huge thank you to the President and to the people of Burkinabe for their hospitality. This visit gave me a better understanding of the human and cultural richness of the country,” Onana wrote on Instagram.

The post was accompanied by photos of the 29-year-old goalkeeper with President Traoré, including one in which Onana hands over the signed jersey.

According to Choicelive, Onana described the experience as “unforgettable and full of learning experiences.”

Captain Ibrahim Traoré, who came to power in September 2022 after ousting Lieutenant Colonel Paul-Henri Damiba in a coup, has grown in popularity among sections of the Burkinabe population for his nationalist stance and his efforts to position himself in the mould of iconic revolutionary leader Thomas Sankara.

Despite the political backdrop, the visit was non-political in tone, with Onana reportedly exploring parts of the country and engaging in cultural exchange.

The president expressed gratitude for the Cameroonian international’s visit, praising him for taking the time to understand the people and traditions of Burkina Faso.

Onana, who joined Manchester United from Inter Milan in 2023, endured a difficult season in England.

His form fluctuated under pressure and scrutiny, especially after a tough start to United’s campaign.

With speculation around changes at the club during the summer transfer window, his long-term role at the club remains a topic of discussion.
