Former Medeama SC striker Jonathan Sowah says he is eyeing a return to the senior national team, the Black Stars.
The former Danbort FC striker made his debut for the senior national team in September 2023 ahead of a friendly game against Liberia under the then-head coach, Chris Hughton.
Sowah grabbed an assist as Black Stars secured a 3-1 win at the Accra Sports Stadium. Since then, the 25-year-old has been out of the senior national team.
Speaking in an interview, Sowah, who now plays for Tanzanian side Singida Black Stars, says he is determined to make a return to the team despite past issues.
“I don’t believe there is any issue with why I have been out of the Black Stars,” he told Asempa FM.
“There was a qualifier where I was expected to be part of the squad, but I was left out, which affected me, but I am always committed to playing for the Black Stars, regardless of what has happened
“I am ready to compete to be the main striker of the Black Stars. I am still knocking at the doors of the Black Stars. I am not giving up. I want to replicate what Asamoah Gyan has done for Ghana,” he added.
In his maiden season with Singida Black Stars, Jonathan Sowah scored 13 goals in 13 matches.
The uncle of one of the members of the legendary hip-hop duo Outkast was gunned down during a deadly road rage shooting on an Atlanta street last month.
Remoin Patton, 62, was found dead by police on the 200 block of Joseph E. Lowery Blvd NW. just after 5:30 p.m. on June 16, the Atlanta Police Department said.
Patton’s nephew is Antwan “Big Boi” Patton, who founded the iconic group with André Lauren Benjamin – better known by his stage name André 3000 – in 1992.
Outkast’s Big Boi’s uncle Remoin Patton was shot and killed during a road range shooting in Atlanta on June 16, 2025.
Remoin Patton was driving on the road that divides the Washington Hills and Vine City neighborhoods of Atlanta when he got into a verbal confrontation with a driver of another vehicle, police reported.
“During the altercation, Patton was shot, causing him to crash his vehicle into a vacant residence,” officials announced after the shooting.
Police responded to a 911 call and found Patton suffering from a gunshot wound to the back.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A person watching the home Patton crashed into says the 62-year-old was attempting to turn onto a nearby street but was hit in the back, causing the car to drive up onto the front porch of the home and into the front wall, according to WSBTV.
“I’m like, ‘What the heck happened to my place that I’m staying now?’” Chris Walker told the outlet. “I never thought it would be this property.”

A recent broadcast on Angel FM has ignited public outrage after a female presenter launched a scathing attack on former President John Agyekum Kufuor, following his call for President Nana Akufo-Addo to apologize to Ghanaians for the hardships experienced under his administration. The presenter, whose identity remains undisclosed, accused Kufuor of hypocrisy and claimed that his current physical condition—being confined to a wheelchair—is divine punishment for his alleged misdeeds while in office.
During the afternoon segment, the presenter described Kufuor as “wicked,” asserting that his actions during his presidency laid the foundation for the governance style of Akufo-Addo. She questioned Kufuor’s moral authority to demand an apology from the sitting president, suggesting that Akufo-Addo merely inherited and replicated the same leadership flaws. In a particularly controversial statement, she declared that Kufuor would “never rise from the wheelchair until death,” a remark that many listeners found deeply offensive and insensitive.
The presenter didn’t stop there. She extended her criticism to former President John Mahama, urging him to ensure that both Kufuor and Akufo-Addo are jailed should he return to power. Her comments have sparked widespread condemnation on social media, with many Ghanaians calling for accountability and demanding that Angel FM take disciplinary action.
This incident adds to a growing trend of inflammatory political commentary in Ghana’s media landscape, raising concerns about the boundaries of free speech and the need for respectful discourse—especially when addressing elder statesmen and national figures. While political critique is a cornerstone of democratic engagement, many argue that personal attacks rooted in health and disability cross a moral line.
As reactions continue to pour in, the spotlight now turns to Angel FM’s management and the broader media community to reflect on the standards of professionalism and ethics in political broadcasting. Whether the presenter will face consequences remains to be seen, but the controversy has undoubtedly reignited conversations about civility, accountability, and the role of media in shaping Ghana’s political culture.
Former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Matthew Okikiola Aremu Obasanjo, has urged the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to engage in deep introspection and adopt a more strategic approach in dealing with unconstitutional changes of government in the region.
Delivering the keynote address at the Republic Day Lecture organised by the Ghana Armed Forces and the One Ghana Movement, Chief Obasanjo commended ECOWAS’s evolution from a purely economic union into one with a mandate on security and governance. However, he was quick to point out that this transformation has not been without flaws.
Reflecting on ECOWAS’s handling of the 2023 coup in Niger, the former Nigerian leader criticised the bloc’s response, describing it as overly forceful and counterproductive. He noted that the imposition of sanctions and threats of military action contributed to the eventual withdrawal of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger from ECOWAS.
“The resurgence of coups and unconstitutional change of government in West Africa has been a litmus test for the effectiveness and relevance, if not survival, of ECOWAS,” Obasanjo said. “The cool strength and the efforts by ECOWAS leaders to push back with sanctions and threats of military intervention led to the withdrawal of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger from ECOWAS and their subsequent establishment of a new union, the Alliance of Sahelean States (AES) about a year ago.”
He described the split as a turning point that exposed ECOWAS’s limitations in dealing with defiant member states.
“The split has led ECOWAS to a precarious situation. The unprecedented move caught ECOWAS off guard and exposed the regional bloc’s weakness in dealing with defiant member states. It showed that sanctions were no longer enough to keep member states in check. Threats of military action were to aggravate the situation.”
Obasanjo argued that the bloc’s rigid approach ended up alienating member countries rather than fostering dialogue and reform.
“We could see that the heavy-handed ECOWAS only alienated member states, and yet what is the point of having a union if it cannot exert influence, if not control over member states. But it all depends on how. This is the true colour of our situation in West Africa,” he stated.
Despite the challenges, Obasanjo reiterated his support for regional integration and the defence of democratic values, urging ECOWAS to recalibrate its crisis response mechanisms in a way that preserves unity and fosters constructive engagement.
Messi has written a special letter to Yamal as part of a new advertising campaign by adidas for their F50 boots. The Inter Miami star is shown being grilled about his brilliant career with questions including: “Do you deny repeatedly embarrassing defenders across the world for the last 21 years?” Messi replies to every single one with the simple answer: “F50 made me do it.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Messi is then seen writing a letter to Yamal and passing on the sage advice “blame it on the boots!”. Yamal has emerged as Barcelona’s latest superstar after following in Messi’s footsteps and progressing from the club’s famed La Masia academy and into the first team. He is also set to take over Messi’s iconic No. 10 shirt at Camp Nou in time for the start of the 2025-26 season following the departure of previous owner Ansu Fati on loan to Monaco.
DID YOU KNOW
Barcelona are expected to confirm Yamal as the club’s new No. 10 when he turns 18 on July 13.
WHAT NEXT FOR YAMAL?
Yamal and Barcelona are set to return to pre-season in July and will then head to Asia for a pre-season tour. Hansi Flick’s side then kick off their La Liga title defence against Real Mallorca.
The Executive Secretary of the Food and Beverage Association, Sam Aggrey, has criticised the import tax regime, blaming it directly for the cedi’s depreciation.
He insists that the recent signs of currency recovery mean little without a drastic overhaul of the country’s tax structure.
Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Thursday, July 3, following the launch of the NDC’s flagship 24-Hour Economy policy, Mr. Aggrey warned that businesses were reeling from the compounded damage caused by fluctuating exchange rates and punitive import taxes.
“Dollar depreciation is not being felt at all, we take it from two-fold. If you look at what has been in the past, where the cedi started depreciating, from ¢3.80 up to ¢16, you can imagine how much business investors have lost, and also the country itself,” he said.
“So, for the cedi to appreciate again, you look at how much you have lost during the appreciation. So you’ve been hit with one bullet, hitting you twice.”
He said that while the cedi’s marginal appreciation may look good on paper, the benefits are not translating to relief for businesses.
“It’s a good thing too for it to happen, but then we are looking at where government will also come in, as it were, to reduce certain taxes for people to have the real feel of how much the effect of the cedi will be.
“Because, as it is now, if we say the cedi has come down, so it should take it like that, the driving force that brought about the cedi depreciating again is also appreciating. Whatever has been done to make sure that the cedi gains its strength needs to be continued.”
Mr. Aggrey said the downward spiral of the cedi was largely fueled by poor tax policy decisions, especially at the ports.
“And then you look at what about the depreciation of the cedi? It was the introduction of certain taxes and levies at the port. That is where you really see the effect.”
He recalled a meeting with former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and how warnings from the business community were ignored.
“I remember we met Ken Ofori-Atta when he said he was going to go the full recovery, 100% of the benchmark value.
“We told him, ‘Look, this will be a disaster for this country, so take it easy, let the cedi remain where it is’. Because the very moment you increase, you see the cedi also driving itself without any push, it will start depreciating further.”
“At that time, when it was going to do that, the cedi was around ¢11 to a dollar, but he didn’t listen, and he went up to increase certain taxes, and that brought about the high import duties and all that.
“So we realised that the cedi would not stay where it was. And then what happened? We started losing money in this area.”
Mr. Aggrey insisted the country must now take “another step back or step forward” and slash the excessive levies businesses face.
He decried the sheer number of taxes slapped on single items.
“There are almost 21 different taxes that are imposed on one item. So we want an overhaul of the tax system to bring us some relief.”

Mahama Ayariga, the Majority Leader in Parliament, has cautioned the New Patriotic Party Minority Caucus against politicizing the Electoral Commission’s decision to rerun parliamentary elections in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency.
The Minority had criticized the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision, describing it as unfair and unjust, and is calling for the EC to be summoned before Parliament to explain the basis for the rerun.
Commenting on the matter on the Floor of the House on Thursday, Ayariga said, “I don’t know why you are afraid. Why are you afraid? Let us not try to politicize this and say that just because a national chairman of a political party made a statement, the EC is intimidated.”
He urged for calm and objectivity in handling the matter.
The EC has cited disputes over the authenticity of the December 7, 2024, election results as the reason for its decision to rerun the elections.
Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to seek legal redress to restrain the EC from conducting the rerun in the affected polling stations.

The United States of America has issued a warning to Ghana over its mounting financial commitments to China while allegedly neglecting obligations to U S companies and taxpayers.
A top-ranking member of the United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, Senator James E Risch, has criticised Ghana’s approach to debt servicing, stating that the U S cannot continue supporting the country financially while the West African nation directs larger repayments to Beijing, China.
“Instead of a trip to D C, Ghana’s foreign minister should focus on honouring his government’s commitments to repay U S companies and the American taxpayers. We cannot keep subsidizing Ghana while it continues paying far larger debts to China,” Senator Risch declared.
The rebuke follows a diplomatic engagement between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and senior U S officials at the State Department, including Under Secretary for Political Affairs Allison M Hooker and Ambassador Troy Damian Fitrell.
The high-level talks in Washington centered on strengthening US-Ghana relations, with a particular focus on trade, immigration, and the looming threat of visa sanctions against Ghanaian nationals.
Ghana is currently at risk of being slapped with a U S visa ban over concerns that too many of its citizens particularly students overstay their visas.
According to U S authorities, 21% of Ghanaian students who study in America fail to return home, significantly above the 15% tolerance threshold.
Speaking after the meeting, Ablakwa confirmed the US has raised concerns over visa overstays, but expressed optimism that ongoing diplomatic engagements could lead to a favorable outcome.
“The US officials have communicated to us that the challenge we face really relates to overstays, particularly with students. They have formally communicated to us that 21% is the default rate,” Ablakwa revealed.
Despite this, he emphasised that Ghana has not been flagged for other serious concerns such as terrorism, harbouring criminals, or refusal to accept deportees’ issues that form part of the 12-point criteria the U.S. uses to impose visa sanctions.
Senator Risch’s remarks expose a deeper tension beneath the surface: Washington’s frustration over Ghana’s growing financial entanglements with China, a key economic partner that has extended significant loans and infrastructure investments to the West African nation.
Instead of a trip to D.C., Ghana’s foreign minister should focus on honoring his government’s commitments to repay U.S. companies and the American taxpayers. We cannot keep subsidizing Ghana while it continues paying far larger debts to China. https://t.co/vc5314Ptv7

Some artisanal fishers in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region have expressed gratitude to the government for exempting them from the 2025 closed fishing season, which commenced on July 1.
They described the exemption as a welcome relief that would alleviate the hardship faced by fisherfolk and their families, who depend heavily on fishing for their livelihoods during the period.
Prosper Nuworkpor, a fisherman at Tetekope, a suburb of Keta, hailed the decision, stating that it would positively impact many coastal communities.
“We fisherfolk in Keta are grateful to President Mahama for fulfilling his campaign promise. The exemption will help ease economic hardships,” he said.
Nuworkpor clarified that artisanal fishers were not opposed to the closed season itself, but believed the July implementation needed to be reconsidered, advocating for broader consultation to maximize economic and ecological benefits.
He added that the exemption was conditional upon adherence to sustainable fishing practices, such as observing traditional non-fishing days and refraining from the use of illegal or harmful fishing methods.
“The exemption is based on the understanding that artisanal activities will not significantly deplete the already dwindling fish stock in the country,” he explained.
Vans Kwaku Adedze, Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Canoe Fishers Council in the Volta Region, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the closed season remains a vital fisheries management tool. It is intended to conserve fish stocks, promote regeneration, and ensure long-term sustainability of the marine ecosystem.
He stated that industrial trawlers would still observe the two-month closure from July 1 to August 31, while the exemption allows artisanal fishers to continue operating under strict guidelines.
Former Medeama SC forward Jonathan Sowah has disclosed that he was approached by Tanzanian authorities to switch nationality and represent their national team.
The 26-year-old striker, who currently plays for Singida Black Stars in the Tanzanian top-flight league, has been in fine form during his debut season, netting 13 goals in 13 appearances.
Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, Sowah confirmed the approach from Tanzania but insisted his ambition remains with Ghana.
“Tanzania has contacted me to naturalise for them, but I told them I have not done anything for the country,” he said.
“I am determined to make my country happy by playing for the Black Stars,” he added.
Sowah made his debut for the Ghana national team in a friendly against Liberia in 2023. He joined Singida Black Stars from Libyan side Al Nasr.
Ghana recorded an estimated 15, 290 new HIV infections and 12, 614 AIDS-related deaths in 2024, according to data released by the Ghana AIDS Commission.
The sobering figures have sparked renewed calls from government and health officials for equitable resource allocation and urgent interventions to curb the epidemic.
Deputy Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, speaking at the launch of the 2024 HIV and AIDS Estimates and Projections on Thursday, July 3, in Accra, described the statistics as a wake-up call for stakeholders to prioritise funding and tailor regional strategies to close service delivery gaps. “We must not overlook the sovereign reality of 12,614 AIDS-related deaths in the country. These gaps must urge us to focus on equitable resource allocation and tailored regional solutions to address the AIDS pandemic in Ghana,” she emphasised.
The 2024 report estimates that 334,721 people are currently living with HIV in Ghana, with the national prevalence rate among adults aged 15-49 pegged at 1.49%. The estimates serve as a critical data source for planning and global reporting. To strengthen the national response, Nana Oye reaffirmed the government’s commitment to securing funding, noting that the administration is actively exploring domestic and alternative sources to prevent disruptions in HIV/AIDS interventions.
“Government is working to close the funding gap to ensure there is no disruption in service delivery,” she stated.
Acting Director-General of the Ghana AIDS Commission, Dr. Kharmacelle Akanbong, also highlighted the urgency of addressing regional inequalities and the needs of vulnerable populations.
“The epidemic continues to affect lives across the country. Addressing these inequities must remain at the heart of our national response if we are to leave no one behind,” he said. Regional disparities remain a key concern. The Greater Accra Region leads with the highest number of people living with HIV (77,821), followed by Ashanti (54,824) and Eastern (42,386) regions. It also recorded the highest number of new infections (3,436).
Conversely, the North East Region recorded the lowest new infections (97) and the lowest adult HIV prevalence (0.43%). Bono Region had the highest adult prevalence at 2.22%, with Dormaa East District topping all districts at 5.36%.
Progress toward the UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets remains below expectations. The data shows that:
68% of people living with HIV know their status, 69% of those are receiving treatment, and 90% of those on treatment have achieved viral suppression.
The forum also featured representatives from key development partners, including WHO, UNAIDS, the CDC, and the National AIDS Control Programme (NACP), who pledged continued support.
Conclusion and Recommendations:
The Ghana AIDS Commission urged all stakeholders to scale up HIV prevention campaigns, promote safer sexual practices, and expand access to testing and treatment. The Commission stressed that knowing one’s HIV status remains a vital first step in accessing lifesaving care and achieving epidemic control.
Ghana loses $20 million annually due to inefficient and ineffective hydrocarbon metering
Experts in Ghana’s oil and gas industry have emphasised the urgent need for comprehensive and systematic reforms to address the persistent challenge of inefficient measurement practices.
At the inaugural Oil and Gas Measurement and Metering Summit in Accra on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, experts proposed solutions to this critical issue, identifying policy incoherence, lack of effective collaboration, outdated metering systems, and weak regulatory oversight as key factors contributing to significant losses in oil and gas product measurement.
It was revealed during the conference that Ghana loses approximately $20 million annually due to inefficient and ineffective hydrocarbon metering.
These substantial and ongoing losses have prompted experts and stakeholders to issue an urgent call for the swift implementation of measures to address the issue.
George Nii Tettey, a Measurement Engineer, spoke authoritatively on the problem, calculating that a mere one percent measurement error in a standard 100,000-barrel-per-day oil field results in daily losses of 1,000 barrels.
“At current prices, this small discrepancy costs our nation $20 million annually—funds that could transform communities or support critical infrastructure,” he said.
He added, “In an industry where billions depend on precision, ‘close enough’ measurements constitute economic sabotage. The world is watching to see whether Ghana will lead or continue to suffer.”
Emmanuel Kwesi Bedzrah, Chairman of Parliament’s Select Committee on Energy, made a startling revelation about the conduct of some companies in the oil and gas sector, urging regulators to enhance their oversight.
“When producers act as the sole judges of their own output, with only Customs officials present and no government measurement equipment, we are essentially allowing foxes to guard the henhouse,” he said.
The Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Operations and Technical at the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC) Onasis Rosely acknowledged the metering system challenges in his speech, affirming that his organization is committed to implementing effective measurement systems at the petroleum hub.

TEN REGIONAL champions from across Ghana have secured qualification to the Women’s Division One League Championship after topping their respective regional leagues.
In the Greater Accra Region, Oaks FC emerged victorious after defeating Sissamba Ladies in the final. Former Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League side, Essiam Socrates Ladies, made a strong comeback by winning the Central Region title.
PearlPia Ladies and Ashtown Ladies proved dominant in the Northern and Ashanti Regions respectively, earning their spots in the championship.
Their impressive performances also saw them gain promotion to the 2025/2026 Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League after placing first and second in the Northern Zone playoffs.
The ten teams will now battle for national honours in the upcoming Division One League Championship, which serves as a crucial platform for top-tier promotion and development in women’s football across Ghana.
Ghana’s inflation rate may be inching closer to the government’s end-year target — dropping sharply to 13.7% in June — but rent, electricity, and unexpectedly, refuse disposal, charcoal, and yam remain the top five price pressure points driving inflation.
Surprisingly, refuse disposal, despite its small weight of just 0.5% in the inflation basket, saw a staggering year-on-year price surge of 130.9%, making it one of the biggest contributors to the overall rate.
Meanwhile, Government Statistician, Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu, says the sustained disinflation presents a crucial opportunity to shift from reactive price controls to more structural solutions.
He is urging businesses to rethink their sourcing models, noting that: “With inflation on locally produced goods declining faster than imported ones, businesses can reduce exposure to global supply shocks by increasing local sourcing, especially for food, packaging, and logistics inputs.”
He also advised firms to be more responsive to changing consumer behavior “Businesses could practice strategic pricing, not sharp increases, given the disinflation and even month-on-month deflation as consumers are more price-sensitive.”
In the face of rising food prices — with staples like yam still among the top inflation drivers — GSS also recommends changes in household purchasing behavior:
“Households should lean into bulk purchases of staples, buy local produce where possible, and favor in-season vegetables, cereals, and proteins, which are experiencing sharper price drops.”
As regional disparities in inflation persist, Dr. Iddrisu emphasized that economic policy must become more targeted:
“Tailor social protection and economic policy by Region as blanket policies will not be effective given wide regional disparities in inflation.”
Methodist Bishop of the Obuasi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Baffuor Asamoah Agyei
The Methodist Bishop of the Obuasi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Baffuor Asamoah Agyei, has delivered a passionate call for the prosecution and recovery of state resources from individuals who have misappropriated public funds, likening the misuse of state property to greedily swallowing a shared toffee meant for all.
Speaking after the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving at Obuasi on July 1, 2025, Rt. Rev. Agyei used a vivid metaphor to explain the importance of safeguarding state resources for the collective benefit of all Ghanaians.
“If state property were to be a toffee, when one licks it, then he passes on to his brother to do same so that at the end of the day it will benefit all of us,” the Bishop said. “But another person, when it gets to his turn, decides to swallow the toffee. Those who have swallowed State properties, we must open their stomachs and retrieve them.”
He stressed that retrieving looted state funds should be the nation’s top priority, even if culprits serve only minimal jail time.
“They should be prosecuted. We should retrieve our monies, and if they are jailed even one week, that’s okay with me,” he asserted. “Whichever way we can retrieve the toffee to enable us pass it around to others, we should do that.”
Rt. Rev. Agyei’s comments come amid growing public discourse on corruption and recent calls by civil society groups and faith-based organizations for stiffer measures against the misuse of public resources.
His metaphorical yet piercing message has since gone viral on social media, with many users praising the clergyman for his boldness and clarity in addressing an issue that continues to undermine development and social equity in Ghana.

Development Economist Dr Hayford Mensah Ayerakwa has highlighted the strategic importance of the Volta Lake as a vital transport corridor that could significantly reduce transportation costs and ease road congestion in Ghana.
His comments follow President Mahama’s announcement of the government’s plan to boost trade via the Volta Lake.
On Wednesday, July 3, 2025, President John Mahama launched the 24-Hour Plus Programme, designed to accelerate national development by promoting continuous productivity and creating jobs across various sectors.
Speaking in an interview with GhanaWeb Business, Dr Ayerakwa emphasised that leveraging the waterway could shorten transit routes for goods moving from the northern regions to Accra, thereby reducing the high costs associated with road transport.
“There is an export component to whatever is coming to Accra. If we can develop this infrastructure, we can now guarantee, maybe from Akosombo all the way to Yapei, from Yeji all the way to Akosombo, it becomes a reliable corridor. Businesses will know there are guaranteed routes from point A to point B, and this will significantly reduce transportation costs,” he said.
Dr Ayerakwa further noted that the initiative would not only lower costs for domestic consumption but also reduce expenses related to exports, making Ghanaian products more competitive in both regional and international markets.
“It impacts what the exporter will pay for transport, which means they would not need to pass that cost on to the final consumer. This makes our products more competitive. And once your product becomes more competitive, it means you’re going to generate a lot more profit,” he explained.
The development of the Volta Corridor Project aligns with national efforts to enhance trade logistics and stimulate economic growth by easing the burden on Ghana’s road networks.

International tourists visiting Ghana in 2024 spent an average of $3,742.98 during their trip, with most staying for 13 nights, according to the latest Tourism Report by the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA).
The figures reflect strong per-visitor earnings and highlight Ghana’s growing appeal as a destination for extended, high-value stays.
The average spend remained virtually unchanged from 2023, which recorded a slightly higher figure of $3,746.65. However, compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019 — when average tourist expenditure stood at $2,931 for a 10-night stay — the current data shows a significant improvement in both spending and duration, suggesting Ghana is becoming more competitive in attracting and retaining international travellers.
Much of this spending is driven by events such as December in GH, which draws large numbers of diaspora and global tourists each year. During the 2023–2024 festive period alone, daily spending by international visitors averaged over $720 on accommodation, $520 on entertainment, $446 on food and beverages, and $308 on shopping, according to a special survey conducted at Kotoka International Airport.
The extended stays and high expenditure patterns were influenced by several factors, including a packed social and cultural events calendar, diverse accommodation offerings, and Ghana’s reputation as a safe and welcoming destination. Notably, 30% of respondents said they had visited Ghana more than three times.
Despite positive perceptions, affordability remains a concern for some segments of visitors. The report notes that 37% of respondents found visa acquisition and accommodation costs expensive, while food and local transport were generally seen as more affordable.
The Ghana Tourism Authority believes the spending figures are a signal of untapped potential and is urging industry players to invest more in product quality, pricing competitiveness, and customer experience to fully capitalize on the high-value travel market.
With global tourism rebounding and Ghana positioned as a key destination in Africa’s heritage and cultural tourism space, experts say sustained growth in tourist expenditure could play a vital role in strengthening the country’s non-traditional export earnings.

The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has alleged that the Administrator of the Minerals Development Fund, Dr Hanna Louisa Bisiw-Kotei, has been warned by her party the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to stay away from her anti-illegal mining operations.
According to Abronye, the National Women’s Organizer of the NDC has been given a clear ultimatum: either keep her job by ceasing her fight against illegal mining (galamsey) or risk losing her position entirely.
He claims that her ongoing efforts to clamp down on galamsey activities, particularly in forest reserves, fall outside her official responsibilities.
Abronye further stated that this alleged warning followed Dr Bisiw-Kotei’s public disclosure that out of 40 excavators seized during her anti-galamsey operations, 33 went missing while in police custody.
Speaking on his Ohiani TV programme on July 2, 2025, Abronye alleged that the NDC government has allowed its members involved in galamsey to continue their illegal mining activities without hindrance.
“Hanna Bisiw-Kotei has been warned to stay away from the forest in her fight against galamsey. They said that is not the job she was given, and if she doesn’t listen and goes into the forest again, she will lose her job.
“They said she has embarrassed the government by revealing to the public that the seized excavators have gone missing,” Abronye alleged.
He also claimed that the Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, has similarly been cautioned to abandon his initial plans to combat illegal mining.
“Ibrahim Murtala said on TV3 that he would fight galamsey, but he has been warned that if he tries, he will face the consequences. Have you heard him mention galamsey again since then?” Abronye questioned.

The Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, has cautioned the Minority in Parliament against politicising the Electoral Commission’s decision to rerun parliamentary elections in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency.
His comments follow criticism from the Minority, who have described the EC’s decision as unfair and unjust. The Minority is also calling for the EC to be summoned before Parliament to explain the basis for the rerun.
The EC has cited disputes over the authenticity of the December 7, 2024, election results as the reason for its decision.
Addressing the House on Thursday, July 3, Mr. Ayariga called for calm and objectivity in handling the matter.
“I don’t know why you’re afraid. Why are you afraid? Let us not try to politicise this and say that just because a National Chairman of a political party [Asiedu Nketia] made a statement, the EC is intimidated,” he advised.
Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to seek legal redress to restrain the Electoral Commission from conducting the rerun in the affected polling stations in Ablekuma North.

Lawyer Richard Asare Baffour made a heartfelt plea to the Circuit Court in Accra, urging the presiding judge to consider the family and future of Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, before imposing a harsh custodial sentence.
His client was on Thursday sentenced to 15 years in prison for defrauding by false pretence and fined GH¢300 for charlatanic advertisement.
The media has been urged to play a more active role in amplifying the voices and priorities of Ghana’s agri-food sector to drive investment, support smallholder farmers, and shape inclusive policies.
Director for Communications, External Engagement, Innovations and Advocacy at AGRA, Agnes Asiimwe Konde, said food and agriculture must become central in national conversations if Ghana is to build a resilient and food-secure future.
She made the call during a dialogue on Africa’s food systems, held in Accra on Thursday and organised by AGRA, which brought together journalists from various media houses to explore strategies for building resilient, inclusive, and sustainable food systems, and to examine the media’s role in promoting transformation within Ghana’s agri-food sector.
“We need to ensure inclusive policies are being implemented and that smallholder farmers are meaningfully supported,” she said, noting that agriculture rarely dominates headlines despite its critical role in national development.
“How many times do we see agri-food system stories as headline stories in our newspapers, on radio, or on TV?” she asked. “Food is one of the biggest political conversations. Without nourished people, we won’t have the smart brains to innovate and create solutions for the continent.”
Ms Konde also stressed the importance of increasing investment in agriculture, referencing the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP), which urges countries to commit at least 10 percent of their budgets to the sector. She noted that Ghana currently allocates less than 3 percent.
“There’s a need to attract private sector players to invest in value addition and innovation so that we can feed ourselves with food grown locally and reduce our import bill,” she added.
Ms Konde clarified that AGRA does not formulate policies but supports governments in designing inclusive ones. She urged the media to track policy implementation and hold authorities accountable.
According to AGRA’s Programme Officer, Bashiru Musah Dokurugu, the organisation is now focused on connecting production to markets through digital platforms and partnerships that link farmers to aggregators and processors.
He explained that AGRA’s work has evolved through three strategic phases: Strategy 1.0 focused on research and seed development; Strategy 2.0 on linking farmers to inputs, finance, and markets; and Strategy 3.0 underway since 2022, emphasises value addition.
He said AGRA has trained over 5,000 Village-Based Advisors (VBAs), reducing the extension ratio from 1:1,200 to 1:760, though still far from the ideal 1:150.
Mr Dokurugu added that AGRA is also placing emphasis on youth and women by supporting initiatives that improve access to finance, skills training, and business development opportunities, especially in agro-processing and agritech sectors.
He further noted AGRA’s growing investment in climate-smart agriculture, which promotes sustainable practices such as drought-resistant seeds, soil health management, and water-efficient technologies to help farmers adapt to changing weather patterns and environmental stress.
He suggested creating a media-accessible database of agricultural experts to help improve coverage and public understanding of food systems.

Ghanaian media personality and business leader, Bola Ray, has called on young entrepreneurs in the country to strive to nurture their business ideas.
According to him, their ideas have the potential to shape an entire generation.
Speaking at the launch of the third cohort of EwithBR in Accra, he emphasized the critical role that mentorship and innovation play in shaping resilient, forward-thinking entrepreneurs.
He said; “Your desire to cultivate ideas not only empowers you, but it also sets a foundation for future generations.”
“Mentorship is about sharing experiences, both triumphs and setbacks, as they are essential in shaping robust entrepreneurs,” he said, urging established leaders to guide the new wave of business talent.
The event, held under the theme “Securing the Next Generation through Entrepreneurship, Mentorship, and Innovation,” introduced 15 rising entrepreneurs chosen to participate in the flagship mentorship and business acceleration programme.
Bola Ray emphasized the critical role that mentorship and innovation play in shaping resilient, forward-thinking entrepreneurs.
This year’s mentees were carefully chosen from various regions and sector.
Founded in late 2023, EwithBR provides mentorship, seed funding, branding, and training to ambitious young Ghanaian founders.
The initiative brings together an elite group of mentors, including Dr. Toni Aubynn, the Chief Executive Officer of Petroleum Hub Development Corporation, Kofi Amoa-Abban, Anand Badami, and Dr. Chanita Foster, among others, who will provide one-on-one guidance to the selected mentees.
With its focus on innovation, collaboration, and personal development, the programme continues to grow as a beacon for emerging entrepreneurs in Ghana and across Africa.
The New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary Candidate for Ablekuma North, Akua Afriyie, has opposed the Electoral Commission’s decision to hold rerun elections in 19 polling stations of the Ablekuma North Constituency.
In an interview on Channel One News, Afriyie noted that the decision is unjustifiable as only three polling stations remained to be declared.
When it comes to classic fashion pairings, few looks rival the understated elegance of a white skirt and blouse. This effortlessly chic combination offers a blank canvas that can be styled to reflect any mood, season, or event—whether you’re dressing for a relaxed brunch or a formal dinner. As fashion designer Carolina Herrera once said, “Elegance isn’t about being noticed, it’s about being remembered.” And nothing embodies that sentiment quite like the graceful simplicity of an all-white ensemble.
The A-Line Classic
A crisp white A-line skirt matched with a structured button-down blouse radiates timeless sophistication. Perfect for the office or a lunch meeting, this look can be both professional and polished. Tuck in the blouse to define your waist, or leave it untucked for a more casual flair. Add a pop of color with a slim belt or a statement handbag, and finish the look with nude heels or pointed flats.
Pleated Grace
For a softer, more romantic feel, opt for a pleated white skirt. The flowing fabric adds movement and elegance, making it a graceful option for day or evening wear. Pair it with a fitted blouse—think a high-neck top or a tucked-in knit—for a flattering silhouette. Dress it up with pumps or dress it down with minimalist white sneakers for an effortlessly chic daytime look.
Romantic and Modern: Off-the-Shoulder Appeal
To channel a breezy, summer-ready vibe, try a high-waisted white skirt with an off-the-shoulder blouse. This pairing strikes a balance between playful and refined, with the high waist accentuating your figure and the neckline adding a hint of allure. It’s perfect for date nights, rooftop parties, or garden weddings. Add bold earrings and strappy sandals to complete the look.
Sophisticated Chic: Pencil Skirt and Silk Blouse
For a refined and upscale ensemble, choose a tailored white pencil skirt and pair it with a luxurious silk blouse. This look is ideal for formal events or professional settings where you want to make a confident, stylish impression. The clean lines of the pencil skirt emphasize your curves, while the silk adds a layer of softness and elegance. Stick to neutral tones or monochrome accessories to keep the look sleek.
Boho Vibes: Flowy Skirt and Peasant Blouse
If your style leans more relaxed or bohemian, a tiered white maxi skirt and a loose, embroidered blouse can be a perfect match. This look is ideal for casual outings, music festivals, or travel days when comfort and style need to go hand-in-hand. Complete the outfit with layered jewelry, a floppy hat, and some leather sandals or ankle boots.
Final Thoughts
A white skirt and blouse may seem simple, but their versatility makes them indispensable. Whether your aesthetic is modern, romantic, professional, or laid-back, you can find a pairing that speaks to your style. Mix and match textures, try different silhouettes, and play with accessories to personalize each outfit. In the words of Coco Chanel, “Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance.” And with a white skirt and blouse, elegance is always within reach.
Former United Nations Envoy to West Africa and the Sahel Region, Dr. Mohammed Ibn Chambas, has warned that the withdrawal of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) from ECOWAS poses a serious threat to West Africa’s longstanding vision of subregional integration.
Speaking at the Republic Day Lecture on Thursday, July 3, under the theme “ECOWAS and Its Survival: Impact of the Alliance of Sahelian States and the Way Forward,” Dr. Chambas stressed the urgent need for unity within the West African bloc, underscoring the need for regional cooperation as a vital way to achieving peace, prosperity, and sustainable development across member states.
He emphasised that a strong and integrated ECOWAS would allow citizens to move freely, engage in trade and investment, and benefit from efficient cross-border infrastructure such as roads, railways, energy, and telecommunications.
According to him, these systems are essential for improving regional security and boosting collective economic prosperity.
“…In times such as these, unity is our greatest strength. By standing together, we can build a resilient and sustainable subregional community that better serves our states and citizens, building an ECOWAS of the people and a subregion in which its citizens can move freely, engage in trade and investment, with efficient cross-border infrastructure such as roads, railways, energy, and telecommunications.
“These will not only contribute to peace and security, but also to shared prosperity. It will also make ECOWAS a strong pillar in the construction of a united Africa, which our youth today so much cherish. The exit of the AES from ECOWAS threatens this dream of subregional integration,” he said.
Ghanaians on the social media page X have tackled former British High Commissioner to Ghana, Jon Benjamin, after he attacked Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams.
Jon Benjamin fired shots at Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams over his comments at the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Day on July 1, 2025.
The founder and General Overseer of Action Chapel International, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, stated he looks forward to a Ghana where the youth no longer queue at embassies for visas.
National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has accused state authorities of using harsh bail conditions as a strategy to detain former Buffer Stock CEO, Abdul-Wahab Hannan, despite a court granting him bail.
His comments come amid growing agitation among NPP supporters and sympathisers, many of whom gathered outside EOCO’s premises to demand Mr. Hannan’s release. Mr. Hannan was arrested on June 25 along with his wife over alleged financial impropriety.
Mr. Hannan’s wife has since been granted bail to the tune of GH¢30 million. However, despite a GH¢60 million bail condition reportedly being met, Mr. Hannan remains in EOCO custody.
Speaking to Channel One News at EOCO’s premises, Salam Mustapha described the situation as a clear abuse of process, accusing the ruling National Democratic Congress of intentionally circumventing legal standards to achieve prolonged detention.
He argued that when bail terms are deliberately set beyond reasonable reach or used as a tool to delay release, it amounts to a violation of constitutional protections.
“In Matin Kpebu vrs the Republic of Ghana, every offence is bailable, even murder is bailable. So you cannot explain to any reasonable mind why you will keep him excessive of the stipulated law time and even go beyond.
“Then you impose draconian bail conditions when you know that it is difficult to meet. When you do that, you are using the backdoor strategy to detain the person. It is as if you have given the head, and you are holding the tail. That is the new strategy of this government,” he stated.

THE GHANA Boxing Authority (GBA) has appointed its Second Vice President, Roger Barnor, as Acting President following the resignation of Abraham Kotei Neequaye last week. Neequaye stepped down citing personal reasons, bringing an end to his turbulent tenure at the helm of Ghana’s boxing administration.
Barnor, a respected retired boxing referee, assumes leadership in line with the GBA’s constitutional provisions. Although the GBA constitution mandates the First Vice President to take over in such instances, that position has remained vacant since Rabon Dodoo’s resignation in 2023 over what he described as “philosophical differences” with Neequaye. Dodoo has since declared his intention to contest for the GBA presidency at the next elective congress.
Barnor’s interim leadership comes at a critical time for the GBA, as preparations intensify for an elective congress originally scheduled for July.
Sources close to the Authority also indicate that prominent boxing promoter and businessman Ivan Bruce Cudjoe, owner of Travel Matters Ghana, will be in the running for the top job. Cudjoe is known for managing notable boxers such as Lartey Harrison and Patrick Allotey.
The GBA will hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in May, a key constitutional requirement ahead of the congress. However, the Authority has failed to hold an AGM in the past five years.
The Ministry of Sports and Recreation, through the National Sports Authority, has reportedly insisted that the AGM must take place before the next election.
In a bid to meet constitutional requirements and avoid further delays, stakeholders have proposed holding the AGM and elective congress on the same day—a move currently under consideration by the Ministry.
Barnor’s immediate task will be to stabilise the GBA and steer it toward a credible, transparent leadership transition, as the boxing fraternity looks ahead to a new chapter.
New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart and former Minister for Chieftaincy Affairs, Stephen Asamoah-Boateng, has expressed disagreement with the party’s National Council over its decision to hold an early presidential primary.
In his view, the party’s current challenges require a deliberate focus on rebuilding unity at the grassroots rather than rushing to elect a flagbearer.
“I disagree with the National Council’s rush for an early presidential primary. The party needs reorganization from the grassroots, not the top. Electing a flagbearer early won’t fix the current divisions,” he stated in an interview on Asempa FM’s show.
Mr. Asamoah-Boateng urged party leaders to adopt a calmer approach, emphasizing the importance of internal cohesion.
“The noise is too much. We need to be sober and focus on internal unity. Ghanaians are waiting for us to have a sense of shared responsibility,” he added.
He also dismissed concerns that differing support for presidential hopefuls would deepen rifts in the party, describing such differences as “natural human tendencies” that can be managed with proper organization.
“It’s a natural human tendency for people to support those they want to support, so I don’t think this will create a rift in the party. The main focus should be on grassroots efforts; if that is achieved, reaching the top will be much easier,” he explained.
Congo’s government and Rwanda-backed rebels said on Thursday they would send delegations back to Qatar for peace talks, as Washington pushes for an end to fighting that could help unlock billions in mining investments.
M23 holds more territory than ever before in eastern Congo after staging a lightning advance earlier this year.
The fighting, the latest flare-up in a conflict with roots in the Rwandan genocide three decades ago, has killed thousands of people and displaced hundreds of thousands more.
U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration is trying to broker a peace deal between Rwanda and Congo that would bring billions of dollars of Western investment to a region rich in tantalum, gold, cobalt, copper, lithium and other minerals.
Qatar is hosting a separate but parallel mediation effort with delegations from the Democratic Republic of Congo government and M23.
Last week, the Rwandan and Congolese foreign ministers signed a peace accord in Washington, pledging to implement a 2024 deal that would see Rwandan troops withdraw from eastern Congo within 90 days.
The top diplomats also met with Trump, who invited Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi and Rwandan counterpart Paul Kagame to Washington to sign a package of deals that Massad Boulos, Trump’s senior adviser for Africa, dubbed the “Washington Accord”.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Boulos said the Trump administration would “love” to hold that meeting at the end of July. But he also said U.S. officials hope to have a deal in Doha finalised by then.
SLOW PROGRESS
At a press conference on Thursday, their first since last week’s signing ceremony in Washington, an M23 official said rebel delegates would return to Doha but accused Kinshasa of not taking the process seriously.
“Since the signing of the Washington agreement, we have been contacted three times by the Qatari mediator to resume dialogue,” said Benjamin Mbonimpa, one of the M23 delegates who has taken part in the Doha dialogue.
The rebels are still insisting on progress on preconditions such as the release of imprisoned M23 fighters and the reopening of banks in rebel-held territory, he said.
Congo’s presidency said in a statement to Reuters that government delegates were also returning to Doha.
The latest report by a panel of United Nations experts, obtained this week by Reuters, said Rwanda has exercised command and control over M23 during their advance.
Rwanda has denied backing M23 militarily, and a government spokesperson said this week the report “misrepresents Rwanda’s longstanding security concerns” in eastern Congo, notably the presence of ethnic Hutu militiamen linked to the 1994 genocide.
Despite remaining hurdles to ending the long-running conflict, Boulos said on Wednesday he was “optimistic” because Tshisekedi and Kagame were serious about reaching a deal.

Veteran rapper Nii Addo Quaynor, known in showbiz as Tinny, says no one influenced his decision to switch from rapping in Twi and English to Ga.
He made the revelation in an interview with George Quaye on Joy Prime’s Prime Time Show, clarifying the bold move that would later define his brand and career.
“Yeah, I actually started as a Twi rapper,” Tinny said when asked about his early music days. “I was doing more Twi and English than a bit of Ga, but I wasn’t a Ga rapper.”
He explained that language choice in music often comes down to reach and marketability.
“You see, Twi is the most spoken language in Ghana, so when you’re doing something in Twi, you perceive that it will go faster. Consider merchandising and market-wise—it goes fast. So I decided to do my thing in Twi.”
But something didn’t sit right.
“Later on, I realised that I’m not original. I have to be me and represent where I’m coming from. That’s why I went back to my pen and my paper and I wrote songs like Makola Kwakwe and others.”

When asked who advised him to make the switch to Ga, Tinny was emphatic: “No one, I decided myself.”
George Quaye probed further, citing rumours that famed producer Hammer was behind the shift. Tinny dismissed the claim.
“No, this was way before meeting Hammer. I was a Ga rapper before meeting him. I remember I met Hammer through Doggo. When Doggo was going to record his album, Hammer was looking for a Ga rapper.
“So Doggo actually told Hammer about me, and I was home when he called me. I drove there, and I met him—and the rest is history, as they say. So it wasn’t Hammer at all.”
On working with Hammer, Tinny had nothing but high praise.
“The feeling alone was great. Because Hammer is the type that can mute everything and just drop you some baseline that makes you go crazy… wow… even before dropping the strings and everything.
“So it brings the feeling out of you. It brings out the creativity. I love working with Hammer—one of the best engineers so far.”
Asked about claims that Hammer was difficult to work with, Tinny laughed it off.
“Maybe it is the understanding. I dey worry, but Hammer still works with me.”
Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, has urged the Minority in Parliament against politicising Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to rerun parliamentary elections in the Ablekuma North Constituency.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Thursday, July 3, Ayariga appealed for a more measured approach to the situation.
“I don’t understand the fear. What are you afraid of? Let’s not politicise this simply because a political party chairman [Asiedu Nketia] has spoken. That should not suggest the EC is under pressure,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has disclosed plans to initiate legal proceedings aimed at halting the EC from proceeding with the rerun in the affected polling centres.
The Electoral Commission has announced that the rerun will take place on Friday, July 11, 2025, in 19 out of the 37 polling stations within the constituency.
The Commission explained that this decision followed a stakeholder meeting held recently as a follow-up to earlier discussions on June 12, 2025, where both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) were given an opportunity to update the Commission on developments regarding the disputed seat.
According to the EC, both parties reaffirmed their previous stances during the latest meeting.
Meanwhile, the NPP has disclosed its intention to challenge the EC’s directive in court, seeking to stop the rerun from proceeding.
The Commission has also called on the Ghana Police Service to ensure maximum security at the affected polling centres to guarantee a peaceful and orderly election process.

Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor
The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has announced that the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) collected GH¢1.6 billion in revenue during the first six months of 2025.
Addressing Parliament on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, Jinapor described the figure as a clear improvement in ECG’s performance, although it fell short of the GH¢2.5 billion revenue target set for the period.
He noted that compared to the same period in 2024, the increase is significant.
“In June alone, ECG generated about GH¢1.6 billion, which reflects a strong year-on-year improvement in revenue collection,” he said.
The minister also announced plans to introduce a new legislative instrument in Parliament to enforce stricter penalties against individuals involved in the illegal installation of electricity meters.
Although some culprits have already faced arrest and prosecution, he believes the current sanctions are not harsh enough to deter such unlawful acts.
He stressed the urgency of implementing more severe punishments to help eliminate the practice.

President John Dramani Mahama has urged the newly appointed Justices of the Supreme Court to embody justice, integrity, and national renewal.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony of seven new Supreme Court Justices at the Jubilee House on Thursday, July 3, 2025, he described their elevation as a moment of national significance that speaks to both their distinguished legal careers and the broader aspirations of a nation in search of renewal.
“It is a moment that affirms your merit and experience, as well as the hopes and expectations of a nation striving to reset, renew, and rebuild. All of you come onto the Supreme Court with vast experience and a solid knowledge of the law and are deserving of this high office”, he noted.
Pointing out the judiciary’s role in Ghana’s democratic architecture, President Mahama emphasised that the Supreme Court serves as the final custodian of the Constitution and a vital safeguard for civil liberties.
“It is to this court that people turn when their freedoms are threatened, when justice seems distant, or when the complexities of modern governance test the Constitution,” he said.
He explained that the role of a Justice of the Supreme Court goes far beyond legal interpretation.
“You are called not merely to interpret the law, but to embody its highest ideals: fairness, impartiality, integrity, and courage. You are expected to serve not as arbiters of technicalities, but as stewards of justice and conscience”, he indicated.
Mahama also stressed the need for a judiciary to reflect the nation’s needs and real experiences of Ghanaians.
“The judiciary must not only speak the language of the law; it must understand the heartbeat of the nation, it must be alert to the needs of low-income individuals, mindful of the struggles faced by our women and children, and sensitive to the anxieties of our citizens who feel excluded, unheard, or unseen”, he added.

The seven new Justices, whose appointments followed parliamentary approval and vetting processes are Justice Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei, Justice Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh, Justice Senyo Dzamefe, Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo, Justice Philip Bright Mensah, Justice Janapare Bartels-Kodwo, and Justice Hafisata Amaleboba.

Ghanaian forward Daniel Afriyie Barnieh is now a free agent after Swiss side FC Zurich confirmed on Thursday, July 3, 2025, that his contract has been terminated by mutual consent.
Barnieh, 24, joined FC Zurich from Accra Hearts of Oak in January 2023 on a three-year deal that was supposed to run until 2026.
However, after making 50 appearances and scoring two goals in the Swiss Super League, both parties have agreed to part ways.
The club announced his exit in a statement shared on social media:
“FC Zurich announce that Ghanaian striker Daniel Afriyie is leaving the city club. His contract was terminated by mutual agreement. FC Zürich thanks Daniel Afriyie for his dedication and wishes him all the best for the future!”
Barnieh rose to prominence with Accra Hearts of Oak and also captained Ghana’s Black Satellites to victory at the 2021 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
His move to Switzerland was seen as a big step in his career, but limited game time and competition for places saw him struggle for regular minutes.
With the new season approaching, Barnieh is now expected to weigh up his next move as he looks to revive his club career.

New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart and former Minister for Chieftaincy Affairs, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, has admitted that the party’s loss in the 2024 general elections has deeply shaken its members and supporters.
Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr Asamoah Boateng said the outcome of the polls caught many by surprise and left them struggling to come to terms with the defeat.
“The 2024 elections weren’t easy. We have all been mesmerized by the results. Most of our people are yet to recover from the loss. It’s a serious issue,” he noted.
He added that while he personally sensed the possibility of defeat, the scale of the loss calls for a sober reassessment of the party’s strategies.
“The 2024 election was not easy. We have all been captivated by the results, but I sensed a feeling of loss among many. Most of our people have yet to recover from it, and this is a serious issue. It will require us to go back to the drawing board and reassess the situation,” he said.
Former Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Stephen Asamoah-Boateng, has announced his intention to contest the New Patriotic Party (NPP) chairmanship race.
Mr. Asamoah-Boateng revealed this in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show.
He said he aims to re-energise and reorganise the NPP, emphasising that the party’s chairman is the most important tool in politics.
“The chairman must bring a different ballgame. He must be able to motivate and energize so he can carry people along. I have studied, listened to, and understood the ideologies and philosophies of the party,” he stated.
Though confident in his ability to lead the NPP to victory in the 2028 election, the former Director-General of the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) says he will proceed cautiously before officially declaring his ambition.
However, he admitted to sending a subtle message calling for a new era of discipline and a more structured party.
In 2022, Asabee, as he is popularly known, was one of the key aspirants in the NPP chairmanship race.
He was confident that, among his competitors, he had the strength to ‘face’ the NDC.
However, at the end of the polls, his hope was dashed as Stephen Ayesu Ntim emerged the winner on his fifth attempt with 4,014 votes, while Asabee secured 1,010 votes.

The Minority in Parliament is calling for the Electoral Commission (EC) to be summoned to explain its decision to conduct a rerun of elections in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency.
This follows objections raised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the EC’s reliance on scanned Pink Sheets submitted by the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The Commission dismissed the documents, which bore party agent signatures but lacked endorsements from Presiding Officers, ruling them insufficient for final collation and prompting the decision to order a rerun.
Speaking in Parliament on Thursday, July 3, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin questioned the EC’s consistency and warned of possible political interference.
“We are being told there will be a rerun in some polling stations. It is unfair and unjust. I don’t want to believe recent public comments by a senior politician are what’s pushing the EC, perhaps to secure their job. It is not fair,” he said.
He cautioned that the move could set a troubling precedent.
“Maybe today this helps one side, but tomorrow, it could be the other’s turn. Mr. Speaker, I humbly urge that the EC be scheduled to appear before this House. They must explain why, after earlier taking a firm position, they have now changed course.”
The Minority Leader urged that the EC be invited to brief Parliament next week on the rationale behind its latest directive.
In response, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga appealed for calm and advised the Minority against politicising the Commission’s actions. He dismissed the notion that the EC had been swayed by political threats or intimidation.
“Let us not politicise this. Let us not say that just because a chairman made a statement, the EC has been intimidated,” he said.
The Electoral Commission has scheduled the rerun in the affected Ablekuma North polling stations for Friday, July 11, 2025.

However, the report also acknowledges existing challenges, including:
– Inadequate access to some tourism sites: Some tourism sites lack adequate access, hindering the sector’s growth and development.

In a keynote address, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Yussif Issaka Jajah, Deputy explained the importance of data-driven decision-making in the tourism sector.

“The sector’s development is a shared responsibility, and the Ministry is calling on local government, traditional authorities, industry leaders, and every Ghanaian to see themselves as custodians of Ghana’s culture and heritage and ambassadors,” he said.
The Ghana Tourism Report 2024 provides a comprehensive overview of the sector’s progress and challenges, offering valuable insights for stakeholders and policymakers.
For instance, domestically, Ghana’s tourist sites saw a significant uptick, with 1.68 million visits recorded, representing a 19% increase from 2023.

Following her sentencing to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour for charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretences, the husband of Evangelist Patricia Aseidua, aka Nana Agradaa has expressed his frustration with the sentence.
Agradaa was sentenced on July 3, 2025, by an Accra Circuit Court after a pregnancy test was conducted.
Following her sentence, her husband, Angel Asiamah, was spotted talking to the press as he made his way to his car from the courtroom.
He said he was still surprised by the complaints which started the entire case but brushed it off as a trial which affects people chosen by God.
“They came to the all-night service hoping that she would double their money for them, which does not make sense because we go to church; we give offertory. So how can you expect double of it that night?
“But I’m not surprised; this is one of the tribulations that servants of God face. So many servants of God in the Bible have been through trials. Even our great leaders have been through one tribulation or another. After this, her blessings will be bigger,” he said.
Asked if Agradaa’s church, Heavenway International, would still hold services as usual, he was affirmative.
“The church will still go on. I’m a pastor; there are other pastors in the church. But all this is not a problem; 15 years in prison is not any news,” he said.
Background
The Ghana Police Service arrested repented fetish priestess Nana Agradaa, now known as Evangelist Mama Pat, on Sunday, October 9, 2022.
“The Police have arrested Patricia Asiedua alias Nana Agradaa following allegations of money-doubling scam leveled against her by some members of the public. The suspect is currently assisting police investigation,” a statement from the police said.
Nana Agradaa’s arrest came on the back of allegations made by scores of her church members, who claimed that she had scammed them after an all-night service.
The former fetish priestess had advertised in a viral video that she was going to give out money to people who would attend her all-night church service on Friday, October 7, 2022.
Things, however, did not go as planned for many of the people who attended the service, as many of them cried foul that they had given out monies to her but she failed to keep to her side of the agreement.
She was eventually reported to have sent the people away from the church, prompting the alarms they raised online.
The police then asked anyone who had been affected by the alleged scam to report to the Accra Regional Police Command to assist with the investigations.
