The ‘Terminator’ crooner debuted the new look in a post on his verified Instagram account on Sunday.
In the picture, the artist shows off his new facial tattoos, which include dollar signs and ‘Believe’ inscriptions, among others.
The new tattoos, however, have continued to generate reactions on social media, with many fans of the singer expressing dissatisfaction with the new look.
Reacting to the new look, popular X user @ItsShola tweeted, “As a big fan of Asake who has never seen any wrong in him since he blew up; I’d just say this new tattoos didn’t enter. They don’t look good on him.”
“He is losing his mind,” @Abdurazaq64 opined.
Another user, @it_Rutie, wrote, “Facial tattoo makes Asake look like a thief.”
“Face tattoos are not our culture. What’s happening to Asake fgs,” @effizzzyy tweeted.

This comes a few weeks after the ‘Sungba’ hitmaker trended on X following the rumours of his fallout with his record label, YBNL, and its founder, Olamide.
The controversy began when Asake made dramatic changes to his Instagram profile. A check by Tribune Online confirmed that the crooner had removed YBNL from his Instagram bio and unfollowed everyone, including Olamide.
However, neither Asake nor Olamide has confirmed or denied his alleged exit from the record label as of the time of this report.

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Dr. Bawumia’s running partner in the NPP, also known as NAPO, has expressed strong opposition to claims that the Ashanti Region had low voter turnout in recent elections.
NAPO, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Vice-Presidential candidate for the 2024 elections, stressed that such assertions are not only foolish but also disrespectful to the Ashanti Region’s electorate.
In a recent interview, NAPO noted, “I usually feel like ridiculing anyone who claims Ashanti Region did not vote. Over 2 million people did not vote for us, so why would you claim we lost votes in the Ashanti region?”
He emphasized that the Ashanti Region provided a sizable amount of votes for the NPP, considerably contributing to the party’s overall success.
NAPO went on to say that now is the time for the party to focus on understanding the broader reasons that influenced voter turnout and dealing with them constructively.
Former Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Alfred Tuah-Yeboah, has clarified the controversy surrounding the granting of a presidential pardon by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during the final days of his administration.
According to him, although the process for pardoning the 12 individuals was initiated, no pardon was granted as widely reported following the leak of a document issued by the Office of the President to the Council of State.
In an interview on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme, Tuah-Yeboah explained that the document in question was intended for the Council of State’s advice regarding the individuals the president wished to pardon.
He noted that members of the Council of State objected to granting pardons to all the individuals listed in the document.
“These individuals submitted petitions. Those petitions were vetted, and then, because the president couldn’t sit at the Jubilee House on his own to pardon people, he submitted a letter to the Council of State. The Council of State, on January 2, actually met the president as part of the consultation process. At the end of the consultation, it was decided that these individuals should not be pardoned.
“When news started circulating that the president had pardoned these individuals, the presidency issued a statement to clarify that no such decision had been taken by the president.
“The president consulted the Council of State, and at the end of the day, a decision was made not to pardon these individuals. Unfortunately, the letter forwarded to the Council of State was leaked. Instead of most people, including some media personnel, taking the time to review the letter, they concluded that the president had pardoned these individuals. However, that letter was clearly a request from the president to the Council of State as part of the consultation process. As of now, those individuals remain in prison,” he clarified.
The letter from the Office of the President indicated that President Akufo-Addo, in line with Article 72(1) of the 1992 Constitution, wished to exercise his prerogative of mercy for the 11 convicted individuals. Akufo-Addo, according to the letter, asked the Council to expeditiously consider the individuals listed to enable him to act accordingly.
Below are the individuals on the list:
1. Akwasi Alhassan
Convicted of murder and sentenced to death on March 19, 1993, Alhassan has spent 31 years in prison. His sentence has now been commuted to life imprisonment by presidential order.
2. Beatrice Ofori
Convicted of human trafficking on June 6, 2023, and sentenced to eight years with hard labour, the 64-year-old suffers from severe hypertension, leading to significant mobility challenges. She has spent much of her sentence in the prison infirmary.
3. Frank Obeng
Sentenced to 40 years for manslaughter, Obeng is currently serving his term in Nsawam Prison. His sentence has been reduced to 12 years following the presidential pardon.
4. Stephen Nyarko
Convicted of conspiracy to rob and robbery in December 2010 and sentenced to 30 years, Nyarko has served 22 years, including time spent on remand. His pardon recognises the time already served.
5. Osman Inusah
Convicted of conspiracy to commit robbery, Inusah was found not guilty of armed robbery. He faces mental health challenges, and his release is intended to allow proper care and management at home.
6. Joseph Nana Kwaku Boateng
Convicted of attempted export and possession of narcotic substances on May 28, 2019, and sentenced to 15 years, Boateng has served eight years, including five on remand. His pardon reflects his significant time served.
7. Emmanuel Adu Mensah
Convicted of possession of narcotics in April 2024 and sentenced to 15 years, Adu Mensah was serving his term at Nsawam Prison. His release recognises his circumstances and potential for reform.
8. William Ato Essien
Former CEO of the defunct Capital Bank, Essien was sentenced in October 2023 to 15 years’ imprisonment for financial crimes, including embezzling GH¢620 million in liquidity support from the Bank of Ghana. Despite agreeing to repay GH¢90 million as restitution to avoid incarceration, Essien failed to meet the terms. His pardon acknowledges the complexities of his case and its broader implications for the financial sector.
9. Kwabena Twum Ampofo
Convicted of possessing narcotics and sentenced to a 10-year prison term in April 2024. He is currently serving his term in Nsawam.
10. Alexander Nii Lante Lawson
Convicted of stealing and sentenced to a five-year prison term with hard labour, Lawson has served three years in prison, during which his health has deteriorated.
11. Philip Akpeena Assibit
Sentenced to 12 years in prison in 2018 for causing financial loss to the state due to his role in the National Youth Empowerment Programme. He has served six years in prison and is currently unwell, having pleaded for release due to his ill health.

Because the president had to consult the Council of State, the decision was reached that the requested pardons should not be granted. The requests were therefore denied.

Black Stars midfielder Salis Abdul Samed finally made his long-awaited debut for Sunderland in their 2-1 defeat to Stoke City on January 11, 2025.

The directive, signed by Dr. Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, instructed the Lands Commission to halt all ongoing transactions concerning state lands.
“This directive has been issued to protect and preserve state and public lands for the collective benefit of the citizenry and future generations. Therefore, all ongoing and pending transactions must be halted without delay to facilitate a comprehensive review of the current framework governing the management of such lands,” the statement read.
Additionally, the directive requested that the Lands Commission submit a detailed report of all recent and ongoing transactions related to State and Public Lands to the Office of the President within 14 days of the communication.

President John Dramani Mahama has hinted at the possibility of relocating the National Cathedral of Ghana.
The President shared this while addressing the gathering at the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service, held as part of his inauguration at the auditorium of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), on Sunday, January 12, 2025.
He stated that the Christian community in Ghana would reconsider the project, including aspects such as its location and cost.
“On the future of the project — the Cathedral — I believe that all of us as Christians must forge a consensus on how to achieve such a project without recourse to public funds. This project must be realized at a reasonable cost.
“I believe that we can arrive at a more reasonable figure for achieving such a project, and together, we can raise the funding for it. Such reconsideration of the project might even include changing the current site that was chosen for it. I leave the rest to any future consultations we will have as the body of Christ,” he said.
The President also announced that his government would soon initiate an investigation into the construction of the cathedral, as directed by the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).
He emphasized that the amount of money spent on the project by the previous government was questionable and warranted scrutiny.
“The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice directed the government to audit the project and investigate any misuse of public funds. The government is obligated to comply with this directive and will soon commence such an investigation into the project,” Mahama said.
“In the current circumstances Ghana is facing, it makes no sense to pursue such a project at a staggering cost of $400 million. I am informed that the National Ecumenical Centre in Abuja, which serves all Christian faiths in Nigeria, was built at a cost of $30 million,” he noted.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) needs a bold, decisive, and firm leader, says the Belgium secretary.
In a statement, the secretary emphasized that the party requires a new face and new leadership, as those who have been in charge for the past 16 years must pave the way for fresh leadership.
The secretary criticized the idea of a “YES SIR, MASSA” leader who cannot criticize their own boss when necessary. Instead, the party needs a leader who is outspoken, firm, patriotic, and genuinely concerned about the welfare of Ghanaians.
The statement also highlighted the party’s poor performance in the recent election, particularly in the northern, Zongo, and Muslim communities.
The secretary questioned the notion of “it’s time for Dombo” in light of this election’s results.
The NPP Belgium Secretary emphasized that the party must restructure and focus on the grassroots and floating voters. This requires a leader who can connect with the people and inspire confidence in the party’s vision.

According to him, the country is currently at a crossroads with its economy; however, if there is a reconsideration on building the project, the country will have a lesser figure than what the former government estimated for the building of the project.
Newly- elected Commonwealth Secretary General and immediate past Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, has been listed among 40 industrious female leaders in Ghana by the Young Global Leaders Network.
The Young Global Leaders Network is a platform created for accomplished leaders from different facets of life to train and mentor the younger generation where women and youth are empowered, uplifted, equipped, and treated as equal partners in society to break the cycle of poverty and achieve economic independence.
Madam Ayorkor Botchwey was listed under the category of Women Government and Public Service Leaders of the Year.

Nana Attobrah Quaicoe is the Director-General of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB)
A leaked document from the Lands Commission has revealed that Nana Attobrah Quaicoe, the Director-General of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), acquired prime state land in the Cantonments area for just over GH¢160,000.
The document, which included details of the NIB boss, including his picture, shows that the land he acquired is designated as Plot No. 8 and spans an area of approximately 0.24 acres.
The land is located within the Giffard Road Layout Extension Area at Cantonments, Accra, under the jurisdiction of the La Dade Kotopon Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region.
The document names the President of the Republic as the lessor and Nana Attobrah Quaicoe as the lessee.
“In consideration of the sum of One Hundred and Sixty Thousand, Seven Hundred and Fifteen Cedis (GH¢160,715.00) paid by the Lessee to the Lessor as premium (the receipt of which payment the Lessor hereby acknowledges) and in further consideration of the payment of the annual ground rent herein stated and the observance and performance of the covenants, stipulations, and conditions herein contained, the Lessor hereby leases to the Lessee all that piece or parcel of land known as Plot No. 8 measuring an approximate area of 0.24 acres situated within the Giffard Road Layout Extension Area-Accra at Cantonments-Accra in the La Dade Kotopon Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region of the Republic of Ghana, TO HAVE and TO HOLD same unto and to the use of the Lessee for a term of Ninety-Nine (99) years with effect from the 1st day of January, 2021, yielding and paying therefore unto the Lessor an annual ground rent of Six Thousand, Seven Hundred and Twenty Cedis (GH¢6,720.00) payable yearly in advance on or before the 1st day of January in every year, the payment for the period from the 1st day of January, 2021, to the 31st day of December, 2021, having been made on or before the execution of this lease. This said amount shall be subject to revision by the Lessor every fifth (5th) year of the term hereby granted,” part of the document reads, which was listed by one Alex Quaynor.
It is worth noting that land in prime areas of Accra, including the Cantonments area, is generally priced in the millions of Ghana cedis or US dollars.
This development comes after the NIB boss threatened to take legal action against renowned legal practitioner Martin Kpebu, following claims that Kpebu had voluntarily opted to return state land he acquired around Cantonments to the state.
During an interview on TV3 on Saturday, January 11, 2024, Kpebu revealed that Attobrah Quaicoe decided to return the land to the state after concerns were raised by the head of the ORAL preparatory committee, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
Kpebu explained that this decision by the NIB boss prevented him from being investigated or potentially prosecuted by the ORAL committee.
“Our role is preparatory, so we are not directly involved in the actual recovery of assets; that will be addressed in the next phase. However, there are individuals who have expressed willingness to return assets,” Kpebu stated.
“The head of the National Intelligence Bureau, formerly the BNI, reached out to Okudzeto due to the advocacy surrounding the land issue and stated that he would return the land and withdraw his claim. He requested to be excluded from further involvement,” he added.
Kpebu further mentioned, “Yesterday, we visited the site where the land is located. The NIB boss, Attobrah, confirmed his decision to relinquish the land. I am somewhat acquainted with Attobrah on a personal level.”
However, Attobrah Quaicoe, through his lawyers, denied that he had willingly returned the state land.
He stated that Kpebu’s claim, made on TV3, was false and defamatory.
The lawyers, led by Saviour Quarcoo Kudze, called for a retraction and an apology from Kpebu, threatening legal action should he fail to retract his “utterly false and defamatory statements.”
“We urge the public to disregard these false statements that are calculated to injure our client’s reputation,” part of the statement read.

In a remarkable show of bravery, a 59-year-old driver, Isaac Ayim, narrowly escaped death after being shot by armed robbers on the Gomoa Akoti-Kwanyako highway in the Central Region.
Despite sustaining gunshot wounds to the head, Ayim managed to drive himself and his assistant to the nearest police checkpoint for help.
The incident occurred during the early hours of Saturday, January 11, when Ayim, driving a Kia truck with his mate, Frimpong Kojo, encountered a group of five armed robbers on the highway.
The robbers reportedly used torchlights to signal the vehicle to stop before opening fire.
Several bullets penetrated the windscreen, with some striking Ayim’s head. Despite the injury and with blood dripping down his face, Ayim maintained his composure and continued driving, eventually reaching a police checkpoint several meters away from the attack site.
Recounting the harrowing experience to 3News, Ayim said in Twi: “We were told robbers were on the road, so we waited at Akraman before proceeding. When we finally drove off, someone flashed a light at us, but I didn’t stop, fearing it was the robbers. They started shooting, and though I was hit, I kept driving until we reached the police station.“
Ayim was initially taken to the Gomoa Potsin Polyclinic for treatment but was later transferred to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba, where he is currently receiving further medical care.
Some of the gunshots hit the windscreen of Ayim’s Kia truck. The robbery has sparked renewed concerns among residents and commuters who use the Gomoa Akoti-Kwanyako highway, a stretch that has reportedly seen several similar attacks in recent months.
Many commercial drivers and passengers have expressed fears over the rising trend of highway robberies and are calling on authorities to bolster security measures in the area.
The Central Region has seen a rise in robbery cases in recent years, particularly on highways linking major towns.

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, has urged members of the 9th parliament to rise above partisan politics and work towards advancing the common good for all citizens.
Speaking at the induction and orientation programme for newly elected MPs, Mr. Bagbin emphasised the urgent need for MPs to prioritise Ghana above all else.
“It is critical to promote equality and inclusivity rather than engage in excessive partisanship. While extreme partisanship may grant you temporary favour, it can also lead to irrelevance when the political landscape shifts,” he stated.

President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to collaborate with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Ghana to restore the Pomadze Poultry Farm near Winneba in the Central Region to its former glory.
Speaking at the 92nd National Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Gomoa Pomadze, President Mahama emphasized the significance of reviving the once-thriving state-owned facility.

“I promised last year that if elected President, I would work with your Muslim mission to restore the Pomadze poultry farm back to its days of glory,” he stated.

Operations Manager of Electrochem Ghana Limited, Nene Odeopeor, has reported that no arrests have been made following an attack by armed thugs, allegedly led by a known activist of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), at the company’s salt warehouse in Ada.
The incident resulted in significant financial loss and disruptions to its operations.
Speaking to journalists after assessing the damage caused by the attackers at the salt mines, Mr. Odeopeor stated that despite having evidence available to both the company and the police identifying individuals involved in the vandalism, no arrests have been made.
“We have CCTV footage showing these individuals vandalizing our property, stealing valuable materials, and assaulting our staff on-site. Although we had armed security present, we chose not to retaliate during the attack,” he explained.
During the tour, thugs were observed stealing large quantities of harvested salt while company management while the security looked on.
Speaking off-camera, Ada Police Commander Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Joseph Atsu Dzineku stated that the police would employ de-escalation techniques to manage the situation and prevent casualties related to the Electrochem vandalism.
He assured that plans are underway to engage the identified thugs and deter further invasions of Electrochem Ghana Limited’s property.
Mr. Odeopeor detailed that surveillance footage from the company’s CCTV cameras revealed intruders entering the warehouse and making away with various valuable equipment and supplies.
Among the stolen items were five jungle motorbikes, car tires, oil, water tanks, and various pumps. The attackers also vandalized five company trucks, smashed windows, and damaged the fuel pumping station.
The situation was further aggravated at the company’s residential quarters, where rooms were ransacked.
Mr. Odeopeor lamented that fridges, cooking utensils, gas cylinders, and even mattresses were taken. “Everything has been taken away,” he said.
In addition to the thefts, a long boom machine used for fetching salt was also damaged during the incident, raising further concerns about the company’s operations.
Mr. Odeopeor expressed relief that the police arrived on the scene in time to intervene. “It is by the grace of God that the police came,” he stated.
However, he noted that much of the property had already been stolen by the time law enforcement arrived, adding that even though they had internal security measures in place, the sheer number of intruders overwhelmed them.

A 13-year-old girl narrowly escaped a suspected ritual killing in the Akuapem South Municipality of the Eastern Region.
According to multiple media reports, the teenager was abducted by unidentified men on Friday, January 10, 2025, at around 8:00 PM.
The reports reveal that the girl managed to escape from a concealed location where she was being held.
Her escape was made possible when a good Samaritan intervened by shouting warnings, prompting the abductors to flee as they were allegedly preparing to harm her.
Frank Amankwah, the Assembly Member for the Kitase Electoral Area, attributed the increasing cases of kidnapping in the area to non-functional streetlights.
“I have made several complaints about these issues. From Ayi Mensah to Peduase Lodge, the streetlights in these areas are all not working. People from Ashaiman, Madina, Nungua, and nearby towns come here, making it difficult to trace such incidents when they occur,” he stated.
He further appealed for improved security measures in the area.
“It is disheartening how lax security is around Peduase Lodge. I plead with the IGP and all security agencies to come to our aid,” he urged.
RETIRED MUSICIAN Mzbel, known in real life as Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah, has faced backlash for questioning the usefulness of the Ghana Card, which was introduced by the Nana Addo-Bawumia administration.
Mzbel stated that the Ghana Card, introduced by the previous government, is ineffective, particularly after she misplaced her passport.
“I lost my passport this morning while shopping with my kids. I took my Ghana Card to the airport to see if it could help me board my flight, but it was rejected,” she explained.

In response to Mzbel, Ruby Noelle Arthur commented, “I’m a naturalized US citizen. Since 2022, I’ve traveled to Ghana at least five times using my Ghana Card. I’ve boarded flights from Washington DC airports on Ethiopian Airlines, British Airways, TAP Portugal, and Delta United—all of which allowed me to board without a Ghana passport. I don’t even have one. The Ghana Card has saved me hundreds of dollars in visa fees. I can’t understand what this woman is talking about.”
Abigail Kusi also weighed in, stating, “What made Mzbel think she could go on an international flight without a passport or at least a passport card? If you were issued a visa, how could that be verified without a passport? A state ID or national ID card is simply meant to identify you for certain services as a resident; it is not a travel document! Thank you, Dr. Bawumia, for introducing the Ghana Card—it is much needed, and Ghana is long overdue for it. He never claimed it was a substitute for your passport, Mzbel.”

Krontihene of Akyem Asuom, Nana Boadi Amponim Obodade III, says he realised that Former President Nana Akufo Addo was not feeling comfortable during the inauguration of President John Dramani Mahama on January 7th.
Nana Boadi Amponim Abodade III became famous for criticising Nana Akufo Addo’s approach towards traditional rulers, describing it as a disappointing legacy for the presidency. He firmly stated that Ghanaian chiefs will no longer endure a presidency like that of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The Krontihene also suggested that Samira’s fashion-forward persona would have set trends and possibly sparked envy among many Ghanaian women.
In his latest outburst, Nana Boadi Amponim disclosed that he observed that the outgone president was not comfortable during the swearing-in ceremony not because he did not want to hand over power to Mahama but because he was not sitting in his famous chair.
He further noted that he would like the chair of Nana Akufo Addo to be taken to the mausoleum to become a source of tourist attraction that will fetch the country money. According to him, the chair will be very valuable, claiming that Nana Akufo Addo dedicated a special vehicle that carried it and security personnel who protected it.
Meanwhile, in a video shared by Accra-based GHone TV, Nana Boadi Amponim remarked that the majority of Ghanaians are happy about the inauguration of President John Dramani Mahama, adding that at long last people can breathe in the country. He is optimistic that the newly-elected President will execute transformational policies that will be crucial to the developmental goals of the country.

Team Lead for ImageBureau, George Quaye, has vouched for actress and politician Abla Dzifa Gomashie to be appointed Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts in President John Mahama’s new government.
Speaking during a discussion on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, George intimated that judging from Dzifa’s experience and the fact that she has been a Deputy Minister at the same sector before, she is the best person to handle that position.
“For a government that doesn’t have time, this is not the time to tour. The sector has thirteen agencies. There are places that people can easily fit in and come together to make it work. So for me, it we were to choose a lead today, I will go for Abla Dzifa Gomashie,” he told host Kwame Dadzie.
George also noted that considering the broad nature of the sector, whoever take over as Minister must not be limited to only an aspect. He believes Dzifa has a wider knowledge of the sector than other people whose names have come up in conversations.
He said the new minister must have a firm grip of the tourism space to be able to continue the successes chalked by the former government in the area of tourism.
“You can fault the government of Nana Akufo-Addo for any and everything but definitely not tourism. That they did and did well. They got it right. They did great.
I would be a shame to see the ball drop. Somebody should pick that ball and take it to the next level,” he noted.
While the industry is awaiting the appointment of the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts by the President, stakeholders of the industry have suggested people like creative entrepreneur Baba Sadiq, musician Rex Omar, actress Abla Dzifa Gomashie, actor John Dumelo, actress Ebi Bright and former Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly boss, Kojo Bonsu.

About Dzifa Gomashie
Abla Dzifa Gomashie is a renowned actress, film producer, scriptwriter and a revered politician.
She served as the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts in the National Democratic Congress during their tenure between 2013 and 2017 when John Mahama first created the ministry. Currently, she is the Member of Parliament for the NDC in the Ketu South Constituency and a also a Queen Mother in the Aflao Traditional Area.
Dzifa Gomashie holds a Master of Philosophy (2005-2008) in African Studies from the University of Ghana, a Bachelor of Fine Arts (2000-2003) with a First-Class Honors from the School of Performing Arts, University of Ghana, and a Diploma in Theatre Arts (1994-1998) from the same University.
She has an unbridled passion for arts, culture and heritage and has dedicated herself to advancing various causes in that regard. While she was the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, she played a huge role in laying the foundation for the review and drafting of documents such as the Ghana Culture Policy, Creative Arts Industry Bill, among other initiatives that are gradually taking shape in the sector.
She brought her wealth of experience in the industry to the appointment both within Ghana and internationally. She serves on the committee in FEPACI, the Film Federation of the African Union. She is also a member and rapporteur of the ECOWAS committee for the Reparation of Stolen Artefacts of Africa.
She was also instrumental in the formation of the Creative Arts Council (now Creative Arts Agency), a body that is supposed to regulate and coordinate the activities of the culture and creatives industries made up of thirteen sub-fields.
Some creative arts practitioners have posited that her relevant previous knowledge in working at the Ministry, makes her a good candidate for the position as the substantive minister (and not a deputy minister this time around). The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has assured the public that there is no cause for alarm regarding the reported pockets of petrol shortages in the northern part of the country.
A statement issued by the NPA and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra said that following reports of petrol shortages in the northern regions, the Technical Committee on Energy, set up by the Chief of Staff, met on January 10, 2025, to discuss modalities for resolving the issue.
The statement explained that the logistical challenges identified were being comprehensively addressed using a three-pronged approach.
The first approach involves granting Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) a special dispensation to load petrol from the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company (BOST) depot in Kumasi to supply retail outlets in the five regions of northern Ghana.
Secondly, OMCs are being granted a special dispensation to load additional petrol from depots in Tema to augment supplies from Kumasi to retail outlets in the northern regions.
Additionally, arrangements are being made in collaboration with BOST to move nine million litres of petrol from the pipeline between the Buipe and Bolgatanga depots into storage in Bolgatanga to immediately serve retail outlets in the five northern regions.
The statement added that the three-pronged solution was being implemented concurrently to address the issue promptly.
“Consequently, we encourage the consuming public to go about their normal business and avoid panic buying.
“The NPA wishes to reassure Ghanaians that there are adequate fuel stocks in the country, and vessels are lined up to discharge products into the country,” it stressed.

In a bold move, the ORAL Team, led by North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has launched a nationwide investigation into alleged state capture by appointees of former President Akufo-Addo.
The team’s field assessment, which began in Accra, aims to gather evidence, validate claims, and compile a comprehensive report for President Mahama’s attention.
The ORAL Team’s first stop was the Dubois Centre, where they found heightened tensions between Ministry of Tourism staff and a company claiming to have been contracted by the outgone government to manage the centre.
The team invited National Security to intervene, ensuring peace and security were restored. Staff members reported locked offices and death threats, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
Next, the team visited the Agric Mechanization lands in Cantonments, where they discovered that the military had been deployed to halt the opaque appropriation of lands by politically exposed persons associated with the outgone government.
The team was relieved to see that the military’s intervention had prevented further encroachment.
The ORAL Team also inspected the demolished Bulgarian Embassy, where the construction of an apartment complex by Dr. Yaw Adu Ampomah, a former NDPC appointee, remains suspended.
Additionally, they visited the Northern Development Authority (NDA) offices, where faceless characters had erected walls to grab large portions of the NDA lands under alleged dubious circumstances.
In response to a distress petition, the ORAL Team swiftly acted to protect four bungalows behind the State House, which were about to be demolished by a faceless private developer.
President Mahama’s National Security Committee intervened, and the government workers occupying the bungalows were assured of their safety.
However, Okudzeto Ablakwa noted that President Mahama has made it clear that no government bungalow is for sale, and the ORAL Team has warned faceless private developers to seek refunds from whoever they purportedly bought the state lands from.
Nana Akosua Frimponmaa Sarpong Kumankumah, the Presidential Candidate for the Convention People’s Party (CPP), has issued a stark warning about the possible collapse of Ghana’s 24-hour economy, citing concerns over the government’s current handling of ministerial responsibilities and the lack of proper oversight.
In an interview with Citi News, she emphasized the importance of a well-structured system that allows for collaborative input and feedback, particularly within ministries, and explained that while political opposition often points out deficiencies, the real challenge arises when individuals are given the power to implement solutions without adequate support.
“For some reason, it seems like you have a lot of ideas when you’re in opposition and can identify the loopholes. However, when they give us some power or resources to come up with solutions for what they think should happen at the ministry, the ministers they appoint should ensure that someone is overseeing them not necessarily criticizing, but supporting,” she said.
Nana Akosua Frimponmaa expressed frustration over the lack of avenues for constructive dialogue, noting that if ministers do not fully embrace new ideas, those ideas may not be given the chance to succeed.
She warned that the failure to allow open collaboration could have serious consequences for the country’s economy.
“If you ask me to support and you don’t provide a system that allows me to share the ideas I have, and I have to go sit in some minister’s office for the minister to scrutinize them and if the minister doesn’t believe in the idea, they’ll just put it under the table.
“If they think the knowledge should stay with their people, I can assure you and I say this again that it was not a campaign statement when I said that, the 24-hour economy might collapse in 24 hours,” she stressed.
The 24-hour Economy as promised by President John Dramani Mahama will be a deliberate policy intervention by his government to encourage and support certain businesses and companies to operate 24/7, preferably in a three-shift system of 8 hours each, by creating an enabling environment that promotes productivity, competitiveness and well-paying jobs.

The Appointments Committee of Parliament will on Monday, January 13, 2025, begin vetting President John Dramani Mahama’s first set of ministerial nominees, as he takes steps to form his cabinet following his inauguration on January 7, 2025.
The nominations, submitted by the President on January 9, 2025, were in line with Article 78 of the 1992 Constitution, which requires prior Parliamentary approval for ministerial appointments.
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, confirmed receipt of the nominees and referred them to the Appointments Committee for vetting.
“I have received on your behalf a message from the Office of the President, dated January 9, 2025. Hon. members, I will accordingly refer the nominees to the Appointments Committee for consideration and report to the House, it’s so referred,” Speaker Bagbin announced.
The Appointments Committee of Parliament includes members from both the Majority and Minority caucuses. It is chaired by Bernard Ahiafor, with Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah serving as Vice Chairman. Other members include Kwame Governs Agbodza, Mahama Ayariga, Alhasan Umar, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin as the Ranking Member, Patricia Appiagyei as the Deputy Ranking Member, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Shaibu Mahama, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, and Patrick Yaw Boamah.
The Committee reviews ministerial nominations and ensures that ministers nominated by the President are capable and suitable for their respective positions. It also recommends persons vetted to the House for approval or otherwise either by consensus or vote.

A five-term Member of Parliament, he holds a PhD in Finance from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and Master’s degrees in Taxation and Economics from the University of Oxford and KNUST, respectively. His appointment is expected to drive fiscal reforms and strengthen Ghana’s financial management.
Mr John Abdulai Jinapor – Minister for Energy Designate
Mr Jinapor brings a wealth of experience in energy economics and finance. Holding a Master’s degree in Energy Economics from GIMPA and qualifications in Economic Policy Management and Marketing from the University of Ghana, he is poised to provide leadership in resolving Ghana’s energy challenges.
Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine – Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Designate
Dr Ayine is a seasoned legal expert with over 30 years of experience. A former Deputy Attorney-General, he holds a PhD in Law from Stanford University, an LLM from the University of Michigan Law School, and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Ghana. His return to the justice portfolio is expected to advance legal and judicial reforms.
Former Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Alfred Tuah-Yeboah, has clarified the controversy surrounding the granting of a presidential pardon by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during the final days of his administration.
According to him, although the process for pardoning the 12 individuals was initiated, no pardon was granted as widely reported following the leak of a document issued by the Office of the President to the Council of State.
In an interview on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme, Tuah-Yeboah explained that the document in question was intended for the Council of State’s advice regarding the individuals the president wished to pardon.
He noted that members of the Council of State objected to granting pardons to all the individuals listed in the document.
“These individuals submitted petitions. Those petitions were vetted, and then, because the president couldn’t sit at the Jubilee House on his own to pardon people, he submitted a letter to the Council of State. The Council of State, on January 2, actually met the president as part of the consultation process. At the end of the consultation, it was decided that these individuals should not be pardoned.
“When news started circulating that the president had pardoned these individuals, the presidency issued a statement to clarify that no such decision had been taken by the president.
“The president consulted the Council of State, and at the end of the day, a decision was made not to pardon these individuals. Unfortunately, the letter forwarded to the Council of State was leaked. Instead of most people, including some media personnel, taking the time to review the letter, they concluded that the president had pardoned these individuals. However, that letter was clearly a request from the president to the Council of State as part of the consultation process. As of now, those individuals remain in prison,” he clarified.
The letter from the Office of the President indicated that President Akufo-Addo, in line with Article 72(1) of the 1992 Constitution, wished to exercise his prerogative of mercy for the 11 convicted individuals. Akufo-Addo, according to the letter, asked the Council to expeditiously consider the individuals listed to enable him to act accordingly.
Below are the individuals on the list:
1. Akwasi Alhassan
Convicted of murder and sentenced to death on March 19, 1993. He has spent 31 years in prison, with his sentence commuted to life imprisonment by presidential order.
2. Beatrice Ofori
Convicted of human trafficking on June 6, 2023, and sentenced to eight years with hard labour. The 64-year-old suffers from severe hypertension, leading to significant mobility challenges, and has spent much of her sentence in the prison infirmary.
3. Frank Obeng
Sentenced to 40 years for manslaughter, Obeng is serving his term in Nsawam Prison. His sentence has been reduced to 12 years following the presidential pardon.
4. Stephen Nyarko
Convicted of conspiracy to rob and robbery in December 2010, he was sentenced to 30 years. Having served 22 years, including time on remand, his pardon recognises

The Kontihene of Akyem Asuom, Nana Boadi Amponim Abobade III, has stated that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was not pleased about losing the prestigious presidential chair.
According to him, during the presidential inauguration held on January 7, 2024, Akufo-Addo appeared uncomfortable with the fact that President John Dramani Mahama would take over, judging by his demeanor at the event.
Nana Boadi Amponim Abobade III indicated that this discomfort stems from Akufo-Addo’s special attachment to the chair, which was even transported in an armored V8 vehicle when he traveled around the country.
Speaking in an interview with GhOne TV, the traditional ruler expressed concern about Akufo-Addo’s unusual fondness for the presidential chair.
“During the inauguration, I noticed that former President Akufo-Addo was uncomfortable. It wasn’t about relinquishing power, but rather his attachment to the chair. If we’re talking about famous chairs, this one comes second only to Otumfuo’s.
“You see, this chair is flown around, transported in a V8, and guarded by armed men with AK47s. It’s a renowned chair. If we put it in a museum, Ghana would earn a lot of money. Akufo-Addo wasn’t sitting in that chair during the swearing-in ceremony, and I could see he was really uncomfortable,” he said.
The traditional ruler added that Ghanaians can now breathe a sigh of relief after John Mahama’s inauguration as president.
“Overall, I think Ghana is happy and relieved. At long last, we can breathe,” he concluded.
President John Dramani Mahama has instructed the Lands Commission to provide a thorough report on all state land transactions within the next 14 days as per reports from Modern Ghana on Saturday, January 11, 2025.
This directive, issued on January 10, is part of the government’s efforts to protect public lands and ensure accountability in their management.
In a letter from the Presidency, the Commission was asked to submit a comprehensive update on recent and ongoing transactions related to state and public lands.

The government has also committed to revisiting the regulatory framework governing public land management to promote greater transparency.
“This directive has been issued to protect and preserve state and public lands for the collective benefit of the citizenry and future generations,” the statement added.
The move comes amid increasing concerns over the alleged exploitation of state lands by politically influential individuals in the past administration.
