Eric Seddy Kutortse, Executive Chairman of First Sky Group Eric Seddy Kutortse, Executive Chairman of First Sky Group

Eric Seddy Kutortse, Executive Chairman of First Sky Group, has called for the establishment of a legislative framework to support organ harvestation in Ghana.

Speaking at the company’s 22nd Annual Thanksgiving Service held on January 19, 2025, at the Accra International Conference Centre, Mr. Kutortse highlighted the urgent need for legislation to facilitate kidney transplants and save lives.

He revealed that the company has invested over GH¢36million since 2016 in free dialysis and kidney transplants, with four new transplants scheduled by the end of January 2025.

The initiative, he noted, is part of the company’s commitment to bringing relief to humanity.

“I wish to draw your attention to steps being taken towards legislation that will require your directive in passing into law the appropriate legal regime for KRT. I am informed that it takes about eighteen (18) hours before one’s kidney expires after death.

“This means, the vital organs could be harvested for the use of the living that need same to survive. I must hasten to add that Ghanaweb, an online news portal, deserves commendation for its advocacy over the past year in support of this initiative,” he mentioned.

The event, themed “Proclaiming the Unfailing Love of God”, brought together dignitaries including Her Excellency, the Vice President of Ghana, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, and other prominent leaders from the clergy, government, and business sectors.

Fuel prices increase in second pricing window of January 2025

0

Fuel attendant serving a customer Fuel attendant serving a customer

There has been a slight increase in the prices of petroleum products at various pumps since the second pricing window of January 2025.

Some Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), such as Shell and Goil, have raised their petrol and diesel prices.

Petrol, previously priced at GH¢14.99 per litre during the first pricing window, is now being sold at GH¢15.74. Diesel, which was previously priced at GH¢15.60 per litre, is now priced at GH¢15.77 at Goil.

At Shell, petrol is now priced at GH¢15.59, up from GH¢15.30 per litre, while diesel is now GH¢15.79, up from GH¢15.66 per litre.

The increase in the prices of these petroleum products has been linked to the high prices of crude oil on the international market.

Additionally, the depreciation of the local currency is also a significant factor contributing to the rise in petrol and diesel prices.

However, some OMCs, like Total Energies and Star Oil, have not yet adjusted their prices.

Unforgivable mistake! – Gary Neville blasts Partey for performance in Arsenal’s 2-2 draw Aston Villa

0

Thomas Partey and Gary Neville Thomas Partey and Gary Neville

Former Manchester United player and football pundit Gary Neville has criticized Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey for his performance in Arsenal’s 2-2 draw against Aston Villa in the Premier League on January 18, 2024.

He questioned why Partey failed to properly mark Ollie Watkins, allowing him to score.

The Sky Sports pundit described the incident as an “unforgivable mistake” by the Black Stars midfielder, which hurt the Gunners’ chances of maintaining their lead.

Neville commended Watkins for taking advantage of Partey’s defensive lapse to level the game and earn a point for Villa.

“You can see Partey marking Watkins, and then it’s unforgivable, really, that he just steps back out and doesn’t go with him. He deserved his goal,” Neville said while speaking on Sky Sports.

Despite Arsenal’s dominance in the game, they failed to retain their 2-0 lead after Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz put them ahead.

Youri Tielemans and Ollie Watkins scored two goals, resulting in a 2-2 draw.

Arsenal’s title hope now hang in the balance as they trail league leaders Liverpool by six points.

Soldiers shoot dead at least seven miners in Ghana

0

AngloGold Ashanti said the situation had calmed down AngloGold Ashanti said the situation had calmed down

At least seven people have been killed in a clash with soldiers on duty at a mine in the central Ashanti region, according to the army.

The Ghana Armed Forces said about 60 illegal miners, armed with among others things “pump action guns”, had forced their way into the mine run by global giant AngloGold Ashanti and fired at the soldiers when they were intercepted.

This prompted the soldiers “to retaliate in self-defence”, leading to the deaths and injuries, it said in a statement.

A representative of the miners denied that they had been armed.

Following news of the deaths, there were protests in Obuasi town where several buses were set on fire.

Angry residents poured onto the company’s grounds following the killings, burning at least three vehicles and other equipment belonging to AngloGold Ashanti.

President John Mahama has ordered investigations into the matter, saying anyone found to have acted unlawfully will be brought to justice.

A statement from the presidency indicated that eight people had died.

The government has asked AngloGold Ashanti to cover the medical expenses of the injured and the burial costs, while requiring security agencies to ensure peace in the area.

The company said the situation had since calmed down and it was working closely with the authorities.

It said its main concern was “the safety and health of our employees and those in our community” who were affected by the incident.

The local chairman of the Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners, Kofi Adams, was quoted by the Reuters news agency as saying that the violence was “unprecedented”.

He said that nine people had died and 14 severely injured adding that it was “difficult to understand why it had happened”.

In the past, he said, warning shots had been fired to ward off intruders. He also disputed the allegation by the military that the people had been armed.

The army said the “illegal miners were wielding locally manufactured rifles, pump action guns” and other weapons. It said it had a duty to defend itself, innocent civilians and property, including by using lethal force.

There have been tensions between AngloGold Ashanti and residents who accuse them of exploiting mineral resources without doing much to develop the area or create jobs.

Some local small-scale mining associations have been asking to be given some of the company’s mining concessions.

The company insists it has been doing a lot for the local communities.

On Monday, some schools built and managed by the company in the area announced a two-day shutdown following the disturbances.

There have been several conflicts between security officers and mining communities in the past, but the situation has been exacerbated by the country’s current economic problems.

Ghana is going through its worst economic crisis in a generation with high public debt, high inflation and unemployment.

Amid the economic crisis, there has been a rise in small-scale mining, including unregulated sites that have been accused of having a devastating impact on the environment.

GPRTU awaits nomination of Transport Minister-designate for talks on fare increment

0

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) says it is awaiting the nomination of a Minister-designate for Transport to proceed with talks on a possible fare adjustment.

GPRTU states that the threshold to warrant a fare adjustment has been met following recent fuel price hikes for the second consecutive time in January.

For instance, state-owned GOIL, which sold petrol at GH₵14.99 per litre during the first pricing window of the month, now retails it at GH₵15.29. Diesel prices at GOIL have also increased from GH₵15.60 per litre to GH₵15.77.

Shell has followed suit, increasing petrol prices from GH₵15.30 per litre to GH₵15.59, while diesel prices have risen from GH₵15.66 per litre to GH₵15.79.

The upward adjustments are attributed to rising crude oil prices on the global market and the depreciation of the cedi.

In an interview with Citi Business News, the Industrial Relations Officer for GPRTU, Abass Imoro, indicated that the union is awaiting a Transport Minister nominee before any talks over fare increases.

“If the President is going to choose a Transport Minister, then we will work with the transport ministry. So, we are still waiting to see if a Transport Minister is appointed, go through the vetting process, and if they are accepted, then, of course, we will write to [him/her]. Normally, that is what we have been doing—going to the Transport Ministry and dealing with them directly,” he said.

When asked if GPRTU is awaiting the appointment of a Transport Minister before pushing for fare increases, Abass Imoro responded, saying, “That is what we are waiting for because we are far above the 10% threshold that allows us to change transport fares.

“We have exceeded that, so we are still waiting… not rushing anyone or giving the impression that we are chasing somebody. We are waiting patiently.”

Additionally, GPRTU says it plans to hold discussions with relevant authorities, advocating for the removal of certain taxes on fuel to reduce its cost.

Are you experienced? – Charles Taylor reacts to Otto Addo’s request for experienced backroom staff

0

Charles Taylor, former striker for Asante Kotoko Charles Taylor, former striker for Asante Kotoko

Legendary Ghanaian footballer Charles Taylor has delivered a sharp critique of Otto Addo’s request for experienced backroom staff, questioning the coach’s own qualifications. This comes as the Ghana Football Association (GFA) works through a crucial phase in the Black Stars’ resurgence.

Speaking on Angel TV, Taylor asserted that Otto Addo’s inexperience cost the Black Stars their place in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and argued that he has no right to demand experienced backroom staff.

“It’s puzzling that they are searching for an assistant coach when the head coach is already in place. The reason, apparently, is that the head coach lacks experience. But how can someone without experience effectively lead a team of seasoned players? It’s unrealistic to expect success under these circumstances,” he said.

The former Asante Kotoko striker suggested that the best solution would be for Addo to step down and allow Ghana to bring in the experienced leadership he demands.

Taylor also urged the GFA to prioritize sound decision-making in their efforts to reform Ghanaian football.

“The head coach should consider stepping down, allowing us to bring in more experienced professionals who can truly elevate Ghanaian football. We need to be honest with ourselves: if we want Ghanaian football to thrive, we must make the right decisions,” Taylor stated.

The Minority in Parliament has threatened to withdraw its cooperation in Parliament if President John Dramani Mahama fails to resolve the state of lawlessness after the general elections.

Prevent corruption before it starts – Professor Asare reacts to ORAL

0

Professor Stephen Kwaku Asare is a renowned Public Law and Justice fellow at CDD-Ghana Professor Stephen Kwaku Asare is a renowned Public Law and Justice fellow at CDD-Ghana

Professor Stephen Kwaku Asare, a renowned Public Law and Justice fellow at CDD-Ghana, has sparked conversations about strengthening Ghana’s fight against corruption by proposing the institutionalization of Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL).

Speaking on The Keypoints with Alfred Ocansey, Professor Asare emphasized the critical need to prevent corruption before it occurs, advocating for an additional initiative called Operation Prevent Asset Losses (OPAL).

“The fact that ORAL enjoys such massive support underscores the perceived ineffectiveness of current anti-corruption agencies. Thus, the need for Operation Prevent Asset Losses (OPAL),” he explained.

He noted that while ORAL’s objective of recovering public resources is vital, a broader approach that focuses on proactive measures would be a game-changer.

Professor Asare stressed the constitutional responsibility of the President to safeguard Ghana’s public assets, adding, “The President holds a constitutional duty to protect public lands and resources.”

He warned, however, that if ORAL does not deliver on its promises of recovery, it could have lasting consequences.

“If the promised recoveries don’t materialize, it could undermine public trust and future fiscal policies,” he cautioned.

Reflecting on the broader implications of corruption, Professor Asare called for systemic reform to sustain anti-corruption efforts.

“If we don’t reform our institutions, the fight against corruption will always reset to square one,” he said.

Every child deserves everything they can get in life – Kuami Eugene

0

Ghanaian musician Kuami Eugene Ghanaian musician Kuami Eugene

Kuami Eugene has shared heartfelt insights into his love for children and his dedication to giving back to society.

The Highlife and Afrobeats star revealed how his childhood experiences shaped his desire to support children.

“I think every child deserves everything they can get in life. But unfortunately, that’s not always the case. I was raised by really good parents, but they didn’t have that ‘Kuami money.’ We used to live on the streets, so I didn’t get to go to children’s parks or enjoy those typical childhood experiences,” he said.

This upbringing inspired Kuami Eugene to create opportunities for children to experience joy, especially during festive seasons.

He announced an upcoming Christmas event that would be both fun and affordable for families.

“I told myself that if I ever reach a level where I can organize something like that, I’d try my best to spend a day with all the kids and make it very affordable.”

The singer explained his motivation for pricing the event affordably, saying, “It’s not about the money. If I’m able to get 20,000 kids excited in one day, I think the blessings from God are worth more than the money.”

Kuami Eugene’s deep faith in God also came through during the conversation. When asked about his rumored gospel project, he revealed that he had a gospel album before he signed to Lynx Entertainment.

“It’s an entire gospel album, and it’s still there. Sometimes I sell songs from it, and sometimes I give them out for free if God directs me to, because it could change someone’s life,” he explained.

He emphasised his belief in extending kindness, saying, “I think every blessing God gives us doesn’t come directly. It comes through others.

“Richie Mensah, for instance, saw this poor boy from the street and made me who I am today. So, it’s my job to extend a hand to others who can’t afford it, not because I need money, but because I want to do it.”

What Trump plans on day one back in the White House

0

Donald Trump has promised he will “make heads spin” on his first day back in office on Monday, with a blitz of executive orders expected in the hours after he is sworn in as the 47th US president.

He has offered a preview of some of these yet-to-be-signed directives, saying they will target issues like illegal immigration, climate rules, diversity policies, classified documents and more.

It is common for presidents to sign a range of executive orders when they enter office. Such orders carry the weight of law but can be overturned by subsequent presidents or the courts.

But the scale of what Trump has planned could be unprecedented, with legal challenges expected.

Here is what to know.

Immigration and the border

Deportations

Trump has vowed to “launch the largest deportation program in American history”, starting from day one.

He is expected to declare a national border emergency, and order the military to help secure the southern border, according to Fox News.

Trump has also said he will end a longtime policy that has kept federal immigration authorities from conducting raids on churches and schools.

Any mass deportation programme is expected to face logistical difficulties, billions in costs and a flurry of legal challenges.

Remain in Mexico

Trump may quickly move to re-implement his “Remain in Mexico” policy, which during his first term returned about 70,000 non-Mexican asylum seekers across the border to Mexico to await hearings.

End birthright citizenship

Trump has called the 150-year-old constitutional right that says anyone born on US soil is an American citizen “ridiculous” and vowed to scrap it on day one.

But doing that is much more difficult than simply issuing an executive order, because birthright citizenship is explicitly guaranteed by the US Constitution.

Closing the border on health grounds

A 1944 measure called Title 42 allows the US government to curb migration to protect public health. It was last used during the pandemic, but US media reports that the incoming administration is looking for a disease that would help justify its plans to close the southern US border with Mexico.

Drug cartels

Trump is expected to classify drug cartels as “foreign terrorist organisations”, putting them on a list alongside groups like Al Qaeda, so-called Islamic State and Hamas.

Build the wall

When Trump was first elected president in 2016, he signed an executive order to build a border wall. Although parts of the wall have been built, there is still much left uncompleted, and he may try to finish what he started.

Trade and economy

Tariffs

Trump has vowed sweeping tariffs on imported goods as part of his promise to prioritise American manufacturing.

Trump introduced tariffs in his first term, including some on China that Joe Biden retained.

But this time he is promising 10% tariffs on all imports, 25% on Canadian and Mexican goods and 60% on things coming from China. He has said he will begin signing executive orders imposing these on day one.

Tariffs are likely to make consumer goods more expensive and could fuel inflation, experts say. Some countries are considering retaliatory tariffs.

Crypto pile

Trump has championed cryptocurrency and his election saw the value of Bitcoin increase by 30%.

Some believe Trump will move quickly to create a federal “Bitcoin stockpile” – a strategic reserve similar to the US’s stockpile of gold and oil – that he has said would serve as a “permanent national asset to benefit all Americans”.

Climate and energy

Scrap Joe Biden’s climate policies

The outgoing president sees the series of directives, laws and funding programmes he championed to boost green jobs, regulate pollution and fund infrastructure as one of his biggest accomplishments.

Trump has made it clear he wants to undo much of it. He is expected to use executive orders to remove drilling restrictions offshore and on federal land – fulfilling his promise to “drill, baby drill” and increase US energy production and independence.

He has also pledged to ban new wind projects and cancel electric vehicle mandates.

Pull out of the Paris Agreement (again)

Within six months of taking office in 2017, Trump withdrew from the Paris climate agreement – a landmark international deal designed to limit rising global temperatures.

Biden moved to rejoin the accord on his first day in office in 2021, but Trump is expected to again pull out of it.

Capitol riot

Free Jan 6 ‘hostages’

Hundreds of people convicted after the 2021 US Capitol riots are awaiting potential pardons on Monday, when Trump returns to office.

”I am inclined to pardon many of them,” he told CNN over the summer. “I can’t say for every single one, because a couple of them, probably they got out of control.”

More than 1,500 individuals were arrested in relation to the event. At least 600 were charged with assaulting or impeding federal officers.

Secret documents

At his pre-inauguration victory rally on Sunday, Trump said he would release classified documents related to the assassination of President John F Kennedy in 1963, a subject of countless conspiracy theories.

He said he would do the same for files related to the 1968 killings of Senator Robert Kennedy and civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.

Foreign policy

Ukraine war

Trump claimed during the campaign that he would end the conflict on day one of his presidency. He has since said that he may need six months. It’s unclear what he might do in his first days.

Cuba and Venezuela

Trump could use executive orders to undo Biden’s recent decision to remove Cuba from the US list of state sponsors of terrorism. He could also reinstate sanctions against Venezuela. Both countries were frequent targets of his ire during his first administration.

Diversity and gender

DEI

In recent years, schools and businesses across the US have adopted policies designed to support women and racial minorities.

These practices, often classified under “diversity, equity and inclusion” (DEI), have angered many conservatives and faced legal challenges. Trump has promised to dissolve them and major corporations including Meta, Walmart and Amazon have already begun rolling back related initiatives.

Trump could use an executive order to forbid federal funding going to schools or other institutions that have DEI programmes. He could also ban funding for schools that teach “critical race theory” (CRT).

Abortion

Like most Republican presidents before him, Trump is expected to reinstate the “Mexico City policy”, which bans federal aid to international groups that provide abortion counselling.

He is also expected to reinstate an abortion rule that prohibits Title X federal health providers, a low-income family planning programme, from mentioning abortion to patients. The change effectively stripped tens of millions of dollars from organisations that offer abortion or provide referrals.

Transgender women in sports

Trump has repeatedly criticised what he calls “transgender lunacy” in schools and healthcare, and has specifically vowed to bar transgender women from competing in women’s sports.

TikTok

On Sunday morning, Trump promised to issue an executive order that would postpone a law banning Chinese-owned social media platform TikTok from being implemented.

His order, he said, would give them time to find a US partner to buy a 50% stake in the company.

Trump previously backed a TikTok ban, but recently reversed his stance, pointing to the billions of views he says his videos attracted on the platform during last year’s presidential campaign.

Nana Yaw Kesseh, a convener for the #FixGhanaFootball campaign has launched a scathing critique of Osei Kweku Palmer, rebuking the veteran football administrator for blaming the decline of Ghanaian football on government interference.

According to Kesseh, Palmer’s remarks that the Akufo-Addo government contributed to the decline of Ghana football is untenable.

Speaking on Peace FM’s sports show, Nana Yaw Kesseh expressed his disbelief and disappointment at Palmer’s statements, criticizing him for linking Ghana’s football challenges to the previous administration.

“Palmer claimed that the Akufo-Addo government was responsible for the collapse of Ghana football. I was stunned and thought to myself, these individuals have no shame. Initially, I refused to believe he had made such a statement, but after hearing the recording, I was shocked to confirm that the words indeed came from him,” Kesseh said.

0

Controversial Ghanaian entertainment critic, Sally Mann  has become the subject of mockery following her outfit choice at the funeral of gospel musician Empress Gifty’s mother.

While attendees adhered to the traditional black-and-white dress code, Sally stood out in a green jumpsuit and a scarf tied casually around her hair.

The unconventional outfit, which appeared more suitable for a casual stroll than a formal funeral, has drawn mixed reactions online. Many netizens have expressed their shock and disapproval, criticising Sally for what they describe as a lack of respect for the solemn occasion.

One commenter remarked, “Maybe she was there to serve water to the guests. How else do you explain such an outfit?” Another added, “It’s like she forgot where she was going and thought it was just a regular day in her neighbourhood.”

The event, which was a gathering of high-profile individuals from the entertainment industry, showcased an array of elegant black-and-white ensembles that matched the solemnity and dignity of the occasion. Sally’s attire, however, seemed to clash with the formal atmosphere, leading many to suggest that she deliberately dressed like that for the event.

Ghana’s economy vulnerable to exchange rate volatility amid dollar-dominated debt

0

Ghana has been highlighted as one of the African countries with a majority of its external debt denominated in US dollars. This is according to the 2024 United Nations report on Unpacking Africa’s Debt.

The report reveals that over 80% of Ghana’s external debt is in dollars, leaving the country vulnerable to exchange rate volatility.

“Over half of Africa’s external debt is in US dollars, and countries like Angola, Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, and Zambia are more vulnerable to currency fluctuations, as more than 80% of their external debt is in US dollars,” the report emphasises.

The report also indicates that Ghana ranks 14th in Africa for experiencing exchange rate volatility, which contributes to its growing debt burden.

Exchange rate volatility refers to how much a currency’s value (such as the Ghanaian cedi) changes relative to another currency (like the US dollar) over time.

This situation places Ghana in a difficult position, as fluctuations in the exchange rate between the Ghanaian cedi and the US dollar can significantly increase the cost of repaying these loans. When the cedi loses value against the dollar, Ghana must spend much more in its local currency to cover the same debt.

For example, a debt amount that cost GHS 5.5 billion in 2019 would now cost GHS 15.8 billion in 2024 due to the surging USD/GHS exchange rate. This sharp rise in debt servicing costs exerts significant pressure on government finances and limits available funds for critical sectors such as health and education.

As a result, it becomes increasingly difficult for the government to manage its finances, leaving less money for vital areas like health, education, and infrastructure. Ghana’s situation is part of a broader problem faced by many African countries that rely heavily on foreign currency-denominated loans.

With global financial conditions remaining uncertain, finding solutions to reduce these risks and manage debt more effectively is crucial for Ghana’s economy.

The demand for US dollars to meet debt obligations further exacerbates the exchange rate surge. Ghana must purchase dollars in the foreign exchange market to repay its loans, which drives up the USD/GHS exchange rate, particularly when the supply of dollars is limited.

Additionally, concerns over debt sustainability can prompt capital outflows, further weakening the cedi and compounding the issue.

As of September 2024, Ghana’s external debt stood at GHS 470 billion, with approximately 80% of this amount denominated in US dollars, equivalent to GHS 376 billion. At the start of the year, the exchange rate was 12.0356 GHS/USD, but it has since risen to 15.8 GHS/USD, a difference of 3.764.

This depreciation of the cedi has caused Ghana’s dollar-denominated debt to increase by 31.27% purely due to exchange rate fluctuations. A stronger US dollar globally has made Ghana’s dollar debt even more expensive.

This creates a vicious cycle where a weakening currency increases debt costs, leading to further borrowing and greater fiscal strain. Addressing this challenge requires Ghana to diversify its debt portfolio away from the dollar, strengthen its local currency through sound economic policies, and enhance its resilience to external shocks.

Coalition against galamsey urges govt to act on crisis

0

The Ghana Coalition Against Galamsey, a leading advocacy group in the fight against illegal mining in the country, has voiced grave concerns about the increasing prevalence of galamsey (illegal mining) activities since the December 2024 elections.

In a statement signed by the convenor of the group, Kenneth Ashigbey, on Monday, January 20, 2025, the group outlined its fears that illegal mining is spiralling out of control, fuelled by what they describe as governmental inaction and a perceived leadership vacuum.

“Despite the tireless efforts of various stakeholders and promises made by the government, we have witnessed a further decline in the situation. Since the December elections, perpetrators have taken advantage of the perceived leadership and governmental silence on the matter, leading to an alarming increase in illegal mining activities,” the coalition said.

The statement follows the recent tragic incidents at Ntrotroso and Obuasi, which the group called “a timely reminder that this problem is an explosive threat to national security and cohesion.” The group fully supports the independent investigation called by former President John Dramani Mahama and emphasized the importance of swift and decisive action from the government.

While acknowledging the government’s mention of addressing galamsey within its first 120-day agenda, the Coalition expressed deep concern about the pace of progress.

“We have formally written to His Excellency the President, urging him to issue an immediate cease-and-desist order to all illegal miners and regulatory bodies. This decisive measure is crucial to demonstrate the government’s commitment to combating this menace and protecting our environment,” the statement read.

In addition to this request, the group has called for a more aggressive approach, urging the President to declare a state of emergency over Ghana’s water bodies and deploy the military to clear illegal miners from these areas.

“Mining on the water bodies is illegal, and the President must take immediate action to halt all mining activities within 100 meters of rivers and streams,” the Coalition stressed.

Furthermore, the group is pushing for the abrogation of all mining concessions overlapping with river buffers and the immediate suspension of any mining activities in globally significant biodiversity areas (GSBAs). They are also calling for the repeal of Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 2462, which they argue has facilitated illegal mining in protected areas.

The Ghana Coalition Against Galamsey pledged to intensify its advocacy efforts in the coming weeks, urging all Ghanaians and political leaders to unite in the fight against illegal mining.

“The urgency of addressing this issue now is greater than ever,” they added

Meanwhile, a clash between the military and some reported illegal miners claimed the lives of seven individuals.

The incident occurred late on Saturday, January 18, 2025, around 11:00 PM, when a group of approximately 60 illegal miners breached the security fence and attempted to access the Deep Decline area of the mine.

Private Jet Saga: Can you tell us if the cost of Mahama’s visit was classified as a gift?

0

Felix Kwakye Ofosu (L) and Franklin Cudjoe (R) Felix Kwakye Ofosu (L) and Franklin Cudjoe (R)

The Founding President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has expressed interest in receiving clarification about the cost of President John Dramani Mahama’s recent travels aboard his brother, Ibrahim Mahama’s private jet.

In response to Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Acting Spokesperson of the Office of the President’s statement that the president’s travels on his brother’s private jet were at no cost to the Ghanaian taxpayer, Cudjoe raised a question about whether the travel expenses were officially classified as a gift to the state.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on January 19, 2025, Cudjoe further questioned whether Ibrahim Mahama’s generosity had been formally declared, pointing out his position as a private citizen offering his property for state use.

“Can Hon. Kwakye Ofosu tell us if the cost of this visit was classified as a gift to the state and declared, given that the president’s brother is a private citizen?” he posted.

Cudjoe’s questions aim to clarify the motive behind Ibrahim Mahama’s generosity to the country.

He referenced the case of Ken Ofori-Atta, a former finance minister under the New Patriotic Party-led government, who publicly declared his decision to forgo his monthly stipends, but subsequently utilized alternative methods to generate income.

“As you are well aware, not long ago, a finance minister under the recently overwhelmingly retired NPP government told us he was not receiving salary, we believed him and look where it ended us- a debt iceberg, ‘pickpocketing’ miserly savings of innocent and defenceless citizens in the name of debt exchange and the coup de grâce, junk-rated economy,” he added.

His comments follow Kwakye Ofosu’s statement that the president’s use of the Dzata private jet is free of cost to the Ghanaian taxpayer.

There had been widespread speculation on social media regarding President Mahama’s recent travel on the private jet owned by his businessman brother, Ibrahim Mahama, to The Gambia.

Some individuals have mentioned significant amounts of money, suggesting that the Ghanaian taxpayer would bear the cost of the president’s flight to the West African country.

However, speaking to TV3, the president’s spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, emphasised that no money has been paid for the president’s use of the jet, as his brother provided it free of charge.

“This alternative arrangement has not, in any way, shape, or form, cost the Ghanaian taxpayer a dime. President Mahama is mindful of the precarious economic situation we are in and, therefore, is committed to utilizing public funds in the most prudent way. He is not about to spend millions of Ghanaian cedis, as was the case under the previous government, to rent expensive aircraft.

“This aircraft has been available to him since his days in opposition, and he has used it. In fact, some of his visits immediately after his election as president in December 2024 were made using this jet. It has not led to any cost to the Ghanaian taxpayer. President Mahama is committed to using the presidential jet as soon as he receives the all-clear from the Communications Squadron of the Ghana Air Force,” he explained.

President Mahama orders immediate investigations into incident

The President has asked that investigations be conducted to bring the culprits to book The President has asked that investigations be conducted to bring the culprits to book

President John Dramani Mahama has ordered investigations into the shooting incident between some illegal miners and soldiers at the AngloGold Ashanti gold mine that claimed eight lives.

The President has asked that investigations be conducted to bring the culprits to book.

In a letter signed by the president’s spokesperson, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, he said “The government wishes to express deep regret over the tragic loss of up to eight (8) lives, said to be illegal miners, following a violent clash at a mining site in Obuasi.”

“In response to the unfortunate incident, President John Dramani Mahama has ordered an immediate investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the clashes and ensure that any individuals found to have acted unlawfully are brought to justice,” he added.

However, the government has asked the management of Anglo-Gold Ashanti to bear the medical expenses of the injured individuals fully and facilitate the burial arrangements of those who have lost their lives.

“The security agencies have also been tasked to take prompt action to restore peace in the area and implement measures to prevent similar occurrences,” he noted.

Here is the Ghana Armed Forces’ version of what happened

The Ghana Armed Forces has detailed issues surrounding the January 18, 2025 shooting incident that occurred at the Anglo Gold Ashanti mines leading to the killing of seven persons.

According to a release signed by the Director General of Public Relations, Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quashie, on Saturday 18 January 2025 at about 2300 hours (11:00 pm), illegal miners numbering about 60 breached the Anglo Gold Ashanti mines security fence and intruded at Cote D’or Ramp.

He noted that the illegal miners aimed to enter the Deep Decline of the mines, hence retaliation by officers on the ground resulted in shooting since the illegal miners were wielding various weapons.

“The military patrol deployed on Operation HALT II duties at the mentioned location were fired upon by the illegal miners when the soldiers tried to stop them from accessing the Deep Decline.

“The illegal miners were wielding locally manufactured rifles, pump action guns, gas cylinders, knives, heavy-duty industrial bolt cutters, axes and machetes,” he added.

However, the shootout became fatal as the soldiers resorted to self-defence.

The shootout led to the death of seven illegal miners with one seriously injured.

GAF noted that the remaining illegal miners bolted but a soldier who was also hit by pellets from a pump action gun and got injured has been treated.

Six pump action BB cartridges were retrieved, it added.

“The Ghana Armed Forces(GAF) wishes to reiterate its caution to all and sundry that military personnel on authorised duty have the right to defend themselves, innocent civilians, and property, including the use of lethal force, if necessary to preserve life.

“GAF wishes to urge all illegal miners to stay away from mining concessions and also desist from engaging troops in shootouts since the consequences of such actions could be fatal,” it concluded.

Next sports minister must be visionary and bold

0

Businessman, Mohammed Alhassan Businessman, Mohammed Alhassan

The mastermind behind the ambitious $100 million sports development agenda for Ghana, Mohammed Alhassan, has called for a transformative approach to addressing the long-standing challenges in the nation’s sports sector.

According to Alhassan, the so-called “mafia” that has held the sports industry hostage for decades requires a leader with institutional memory, a unifying spirit, and a bold vision to revolutionize the sector.

A Bold $100 Million Vision

The $100 million sports development agenda proposed by Alhassan is a comprehensive plan designed to rebuild infrastructure, enhance talent development, and reform governance structures across all sporting disciplines in Ghana.

“Ghana’s sports industry is at a crossroads. To move forward, we need a leader who can unify stakeholders, innovate with funding models, and implement bold reforms. My development agenda is a blueprint for achieving that transformation,” Alhassan stated.

Alhassan’s plan includes securing international funding, fostering partnerships with global sports organizations, and encouraging private sector investments to reduce over-reliance on government funding.

“The $100 million agenda isn’t just about stadiums and facilities; it’s about creating a sustainable ecosystem where athletes, coaches, administrators, and the private sector thrive together,” he emphasized.

Tipped to Work With New Ministry

With the political landscape shaping up ahead of the 2025 government transition, some industry experts have tipped Alhassan as a key figure to collaborate with the newly named Ministry of Sports and Recreation under the John Mahama-led administration.

His deep understanding of Ghana’s sports ecosystem and his transformative vision have made him a popular name among stakeholders discussing the future of sports governance.

“Alhassan’s $100 million sports agenda aligns perfectly with the vision of a Ministry of Sports and Recreation that prioritizes excellence, development, and global competitiveness. His ability to innovate and bring in international funding makes him a natural fit for a collaborative role,” one industry expert noted.

A Unifier and Bold Visionary

Alhassan’s call for unity in the sports sector comes at a time when factionalism and inefficiency have hindered progress. He believes that the next era of Ghana sports requires leaders who can foster collaboration while making decisive, visionary moves.

“The sports sector cannot afford to be divided any longer. We need to move beyond personal interests and politics. With unity and bold leadership, Ghana can once again become a global sports powerhouse,” Alhassan asserted.

Transforming Ghana’s Sports Future

As a former media professional and administrator, Mohammed Alhassan brings an unmatched depth of institutional knowledge and experience to the table. His involvement with the Kumasi Stadium Disaster Committee in 2009 and his expertise as a sports and media consultant underscore his ability to navigate complex issues in the sector.

Now a successful businessman, Alhassan is focused on bridging the gap between sports, business, and development. His vision for a transformed sports industry has inspired hope among stakeholders and positioned him as a leader capable of delivering results.

“With the $100 million agenda, I aim to create a sports sector that is inclusive, innovative, and financially sustainable. This is about more than just today—it’s about setting Ghana up for a future of sporting excellence,” he concluded.

IMANI Africa President Urges Transparency Over Mahama’s Use of Private Jet

0

Private Jet And Mahama

Franklin Cudjoe, the President of IMANI Africa, has called on Felix Ofosu Kwakye to provide further clarification regarding the cost of John Dramani Mahama’s recent travels aboard his brother’s private jet.

Cudjoe questioned whether the expenses associated with the trip had been classified as a gift to the state, stressing the importance of transparency in such matters.

Cudjoe’s concerns were rooted in the belief that the people of Ghana deserve clarity about the financial aspects of the trip. He raised a valid point about the need for accountability, noting that the public deserves to know whether such costs were properly declared. “We need to understand if the cost of these travels was considered a gift to the state and if it was declared as such,” he said, urging a level of openness that would reassure the public.

Drawing a parallel to previous government actions, Cudjoe pointed to the example of Ken Ofori-Atta, Ghana’s former finance minister under the ruling NPP administration. Ofori-Atta had made the claim that he did not receive a salary for his role, which was widely accepted at the time. Cudjoe, however, suggested that the nation should have questioned such claims, given the eventual economic collapse that followed. “A finance minister under the recently overwhelmingly retired NPP government told us he was not receiving a salary, we believed him, and look where it ended us — a debt iceberg, ‘pickpocketing’ miserly savings of innocent and defenceless citizens in the name of debt exchange and the coup de grâce, junk-rated economy,” Cudjoe remarked, pointing to the financial mess that unfolded.

The IMANI Africa leader’s comments underscore the broader concerns surrounding governance and public trust. He argued that to restore confidence and ensure that the people of Ghana can rest easy, the government must clarify whether the trips on the private jet were appropriately documented and disclosed. “If everything is above board, there should be no hesitation in providing the necessary details,” Cudjoe said.

Cudjoe’s call for greater transparency is part of a larger conversation about accountability in governance, particularly regarding the personal expenses of public figures. In a time when the country is already grappling with economic challenges, ensuring that all financial matters are disclosed and explained could go a long way in maintaining public trust. The government’s response to such concerns could set a precedent for how future administrations handle issues of transparency and accountability in the use of state and personal resources.

Read His Post Below

I understand President John Dramani Mahama recently travelled to the Gambia and Senegal on his brother’s private jet. The Acting spokesman for the president, Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, explained that the visit was at no cost the taxpayer, and l choose to believe it given the president’s brother is a generous man and has done some public good in the past with his own money.

However, can Hon.Kwakye Ofosu tell us if the cost of this visit was classified as a gift to the state and declared, given that the president’s brother is a private citizen? As you are well aware, not long ago, a finance minister under the recently overwhelmingly retired NPP government told us he was not receiving salary, we believed him and look where it ended us- a debt iceberg, ‘pickpocketing’ miserly savings of innocent and defenceless citizens in the name of debt exchange and the coup de grâce, junk-rated economy.

In other news the president’s ministerial nominees for critical sectors continue to be great. Tomorrow, we should be thrilled by their experience and maturity in their responses at the confirmation hearings or vetting when the nominees for Agriculture, Roads and Transport and Education appear before the appointments committee in Parliament.

Hopefully, the questions would be rigorous as part of what IMANI fellow, Mr Ato Coleman describes as “screening methodologies beyond political links.” Ato believes “we need a more robust performance management system that transparently shows that objectives & outputs& outcomes that our ministers & teams are delivering, what the KPIs are, and how we track progress.”. I agree.

Schools temporarily closed amidst heightened tensions

0

Students in both public and private schools in Obuasi, Ashanti Region, are set to miss classes for the next two days due to heightened tensions in the gold mining town.

The unrest stems from a violent clash on Saturday, January 18, 2025, between illegal miners and military personnel, following an alleged breach of AngloGold Ashanti’s security fence at one of its mining concessions.

The confrontation resulted in the tragic deaths of at least seven miners, with several others sustaining injuries.

In response to the escalating situation, heavy security has been deployed to the area. However, as a precaution, students in the affected communities have been directed to stay home.

On Sunday morning, tensions escalated further when illegal miners in Obuasi reportedly went on a rampage to protest the deaths of their colleagues during the clash.

As a result, all schools—both public and private—across Obuasi and Obuasi East municipalities have been temporarily closed.

The directive mandates students and teachers to remain at home for two days to ensure their safety and allow tempers to cool.

George Koomson, the Director of Education for the Obuasi Municipality, explained that the decision was taken as a necessary measure to protect the lives of students.

“We can’t guarantee the safety of both learners and teachers, so we’ve agreed that for tomorrow [Monday] and possibly Tuesday, we will not be going to school. The contact hours will be missed and recouping the lost hours will be difficult.”

President Mahama has instructed AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) to cover the medical expenses of the injured individuals while investigations are conducted into the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.

Young Apostles held Bechem United to frustrating draw

0

Bechem United’s title aspirations were dealt a slight setback on Sunday as they were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by a resilient Young Apostles side at the Wenchi Sports Stadium.

The draw denied Bechem United the chance to break into top four this weekend as Kotoko, Bibiani GoldStars and Nations FC all secured victories to keep their title hopes alive.

Despite dominating possession and creating several promising chances, Bechem United poor finishing let them down.

Emmanuel Abban the leading scorer for Bechem United was marked out of the game by Young Apostles defense.

The Hunters have scored in their last seven games but failed to convert this time against the newly promoted side Young Apostles.

Meanwhile, Apostles, who were desperate to steer clear of the drop zone, held their ground and frustrated their opponents.

The result leaves Bechem in fifth place, three points below league leaders Bibiani GoldStars while the Apostles remain 14th, hovering just two points above the relegation zone.

Both teams will return to action in Week 18, with Bechem aiming to maintain their unbeaten streak against Nations FC and Young Apostles hoping to climb further from the danger zone against Nsoatreman FC

Ace sports presenter Dan Kwaku Yeboah has publicly approved Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, the former Member of Parliament for Odododiodio, as the ideal candidate for the position of Minister of Sports and Recreation in the John Dramani Mahama government.

Dan Kwaku Yeboah is in awe of the experience and competence of Nii Lante Vanderpuye, whom he describes as Ghana’s best sports minister in the last decade.

Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo program, Kwaku Yeboah stated that Nii Lante Vanderpuye stands head and shoulders above anyone who has served in the role and deserves to be given the position to advance the progress of Ghana sports.

Kwaku Yeboah reasons that having served as a sports journalist and sports minister, Nii Lante Vanderpuye has the knowledge and personality to navigate the issues in the sector.

“Even under Nana Addo, Nii Lante should have been the sports minister. Because he was once a sports journalist, he understands the industry and what needs to be done to improve the sector. He’s no pushover. During his time, he ensured effective management of resources. He’s been my best sports minister for the past ten years,” he said.

His endorsement comes amid rife reports that Nii Lante Vanderpuye is the frontrunner for the Minister of Sports and Recreation role under the government.

The reports pit him against Kofi Adams as the two people who are being considered for the role, with Nii Lante slightly ahead due to the overwhelming clamor for him.

In March 2013, Nii Lante Vanderpuye was appointed Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry under the John Mahama government.

He served in this role until 2014, when he was reassigned as Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, a position he held until 2015.

Following a ministerial reshuffle in 2015, Vanderpuye was appointed Minister of Youth and Sports by President John Dramani Mahama, replacing Dr. Mustapha Ahmed.

‘I angrily reacted to my girlfriend, and it landed me in big trouble’

File photo of a worried man File photo of a worried man

Dear GhanaWeb,

I’m a 27-year-old man who graduated from university two years ago. I have a girlfriend who has been incredibly supportive and loving. When I earned my degree, I shared with her my desire to pursue a career in my field of study and explained that I couldn’t work in any unrelated industry.

My girlfriend lives independently and is very hardworking. Finding a job in this country is challenging, so I am currently unemployed and still job hunting.

Things got so bad that I couldn’t afford my rent, and my landlord evicted me. I called my girlfriend, and she suggested I move in with her. I was both happy and emotional; I couldn’t believe how blessed I was to have such a loving and understanding partner.

She works every day except Sundays, leaving me home alone most of the time.

She has done everything a girlfriend could do to make her man happy. She buys me clothes, feeds me well, and pays all the bills in the house. I have assured her multiple times that I’ll take care of her as soon as I secure a good job.

Two months ago, I ran into an old friend, and we exchanged contacts. It had been years since we last saw each other, so we decided to catch up. Unfortunately, I didn’t have any money to plan the meet-up.

My girlfriend is naturally jealous, so I didn’t know how to tell her I needed money to see another woman. I lied to her, saying I needed money for transport and food to go job hunting. She sent me the money, and I met my friend.

Honestly, I didn’t plan to cheat on my girlfriend, but it just happened. During our meeting, my friend confessed that she had a long-time crush on me and had always wanted to be intimate with me. We were close back in the day, and she knew how to arouse me. She started seducing me, and I gave in.

We ended up having sex. Afterward, we continued talking, and I felt happy at the time.

Three days ago, she sent me a suggestive message, and my girlfriend saw our chats. The messages clearly showed I had been cheating. I tried to explain myself, but she wouldn’t listen.

She started shouting, accusing me of being a lazy cheat, and demanded that I pack my things and leave. She even went as far as shouting in front of our neighbors, telling them she fed and clothed me.

Her words humiliated me. I tried to calm her down and reason with her, but she kept yelling and calling me names. I couldn’t take it anymore. In a moment of anger, I punched her hard under her chin and neck, and she fell. I had never hit her before, but I lost control.

I immediately rushed her to the hospital. She has been unconscious for three days, and the doctors haven’t said much about her condition. They keep asking me what happened, but I don’t know what to say.

I’m terrified of what will happen if she wakes up and tells them I hit her. What if I get arrested? I didn’t mean to hurt her, but I don’t know if she’ll forgive me or protect me this time.

I don’t know what to do. Should I stay and face the consequences, or should I leave and let her family handle the situation? The problem is, I have nowhere to go if I leave. I feel so lost and disturbed.

What should I do?

How an NPP MP acquired prime Cantonments land valued at $700k for GH¢42,000 – Ablakwa details

0

MP for Akim Swedru, Kennedy Osei Nyarko MP for Akim Swedru, Kennedy Osei Nyarko

In a recent exposé, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu and Chairman of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) committee, revealed that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP for Akim Swedru, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, acquired prime public land in Cantonments, Accra, under highly controversial terms.

According to Ablakwa’s report, Kennedy Osei Nyarko purchased the land in question for a mere GH¢42,000 (approximately US$2,800) in 2021, with authorization from then-President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

This transaction granted the MP a 99-year lease on the property, from January 1, 2021, to December 31, 2120, with an annual ground rent of GH¢10,500 for the first four years.

“Unimpeachable and irrefutable Lands Commission documents reveal that President Akufo-Addo authorized this outrageously unconscionable transaction in 2021. The NPP MP who benefited from this condemnable rip-off is Hon. Kennedy Osei Nyarko, MP for Akim Swedru. From the Lands Commission’s records, Hon. Kennedy Osei Nyarko now owns the prestigious land in question for 99 years (from January 1, 2021, to December 31, 2120),” he wrote.

According to Mr. Ablakwa, this deal is unconscionable due to the significant discrepancy between the price paid by the MP and the prevailing market rates at the time, which would have valued the land at between US$700,000 and US$800,000.

This raises questions about the fairness and transparency of the allocation of public assets, especially when compared to the conditions under which other Ghanaians might secure similar property.

The land in question, according to the North Tongu MP, was originally designated for agricultural mechanization, a sector in which Mr. Osei Nyarko himself had served as Deputy Minister.

Ablakwa argues that, instead of safeguarding this land for its intended public use, Nyarko allegedly colluded to repurpose it for private gain, an action that did not receive parliamentary approval as required by law.

“The irony is that this is the Cantonments Agricultural Mechanization land that Hon. Kennedy Osei Nyarko should have been keen on protecting as a former Deputy Agric Minister. He should not have actively colluded with elements in the former administration to illegally rezone the land without parliamentary approval, forcefully evict staff from the Agricultural Mechanization Department, and members of the Vegetable Producers and Exporters Association, just because he and a few politically exposed persons coveted the land,” he stated.

Mr. Ablakwa asserts that the acquisition by the Akim Swedru MP exemplifies a broader issue of state capture and the misuse of public lands under the previous administration.

“Article 257 of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution is clear: public lands belong to all Ghanaians. President Akufo-Addo was merely a caretaker on our behalf. This is certainly not the kind of trusteeship we expected. The GH¢42,000 Cantonments land deal highlights the grave injustice and deep rot associated with how public lands and other state assets were looted under the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration,” Mr. Ablakwa wrote.

Ablakwa called for support of the ORAL initiative, which aims to recover assets allegedly looted from the state.

The North Tongu MP is also advocating for the passage of his private member’s bill, which would ban politicians and politically exposed persons from purchasing state assets, and mandate parliamentary oversight and public transparency for any such transactions.

“What is not right is certainly not right. I know there are many patriotic NPP members who will not support such naked injustice. Those who have not looted from the Ghanaian people do not attack ORAL — indeed, they boldly support ORAL, as the Constitution demands of all good citizens. The current generation of politicians must reflect and acknowledge that if those who came before us engaged in such despicable, unpatriotic conduct, no state asset would have been left for us. At this rate, what state assets are we leaving behind for the youth and for subsequent generations? How can we develop our country if all strategic state assets are looted by a few?” he questioned.

“I wholeheartedly agree with Prof. Kwaku Azar that ORAL must go with OPAL (Operation Prevent All Loot) — this is why I am vigorously pursuing my private member’s bill, which seeks to ban politicians and politically exposed persons from purchasing state assets. My bill also makes it mandatory for all transactions involving state assets to receive parliamentary approval. The Ghanaian people must first be convinced that there is even justification for selling that state asset. It is also in the bill that the transactions must go through value-for-money audits, and the amounts involved and beneficiaries must be published for the Ghanaian people to know,” he added.

GRA chases Nana Kwame Bediako for tax evasion of GH¢7 million

In January 2024, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) accused Ghanaian businessman Nana Kwame Bediako, also known as ‘Cheddar,’ of tax evasion.

“Despite settling a sum of GH¢209,171.00 between 2018 and 2020, he once again failed to file his returns for the post-2020 period,” it said.

Nana Kwame Bediako, also known as ‘Cheddar,’ who has announced his candidacy for the Presidential position in Ghana’s upcoming general elections, has been accused of tax evasion by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

According to a reliable source at the GRA, Cheddar had been fined a total of GH¢50,000.00 for his failure to file personal income tax returns from 2013 to 2016.

“Despite settling a sum of GH¢209,171.00 between 2018 and 2020, he once again failed to file his returns for the post-2020 period,” the source said.

The source revealed that for the years 2021-2022, the GRA estimated Cheddar’s tax assessment to be GH¢2,088,228 and GH¢5,096,536 respectively, along with penalties for his failure to file his personal income tax returns.

The source expressed concerns about Cheddar’s involvement in a tax evasion scandal, stating that it not only raised questions about his financial practices but also casts doubt on his commitment to national development.

The source said “as a presidential candidate and self-proclaimed saviour of Ghana, his actions set a worrisome example for the ethical standards expected from individuals in influential positions.”

The significant fines imposed by the GRA highlight the seriousness of Cheddar’s tax evasion, emphasising the importance of accountability and transparency, especially for those who claim to champion the progress of the nation.

The source emphasised the importance of personal income tax as a crucial source of information regarding an individual’s investment activities and asset holdings.

“It plays a vital role in identifying potential unreported or questionable income, including transactions such as asset purchases. The persistent failure to pay penalties instead of simply declaring income raises broader questions about the sincerity and integrity of someone aspiring to lead the nation,” the source said.

“It must be noted that this scandal is not just about an individual’s failure to pay taxes; it is about the societal impact of tax evasion and measuring the rhetoric of an aspiring president against his conduct. Tax evasion diminishes the resources available for essential public services, infrastructure development, and poverty eradication measures,” the source said.
