The mother of Salome Eleojo Adaidu, Ojomachenwu Adaidu, has maintained that her daughter was never in a relationship with her alleged killer, Oluwatimileyin Ajayi.

In an interview with the Punch, the widow said the gruesome murder of Salome still feels like a bad dream, adding that it has been extremely difficult for her.

“I felt like my world had ended. It’s a painful experience, and it still feels like a bad dream. People tried to console me, saying I have other children, but no one should go through something like this. It has been extremely difficult. What I want is justice for her. I am currently very ill.”

Ojomachenwu demanded justice for her slain daughter, who was a corps member serving in Abuja.

On the gospel singer’s claim that Salome was his girlfriend, Ojomachenwu described it as a lie. According to the bereaved woman, the suspect did not even know her name.

She added that her deceased daughter was seeing someone else, and they had a plan for her wedding to the pharmacist she was dating before her murder. In her words:

“That’s a lie. Salome was not his girlfriend. He didn’t even know her name. You can see in the video that the killer has a beard. My children don’t like men who keep beards, and Salome had no relationship with him.

“She already had someone she was dating; a pharmacist. I told her we would do the necessary wedding introduction after her service year.”

Ghana seeks investors for wind, tidal wave energy

Investors needed to grow Ghana's renewable energy portfolio Investors needed to grow Ghana’s renewable energy portfolio

Ghana is seeking investors for wind and tidal wave energy potential to increase its renewable portfolio.

That will also increase the country’s total installed capacity to the national grid, serve more unserved communities, reduce greenhouse gasses in the energy sector, and honour international commitments.

Mr Wisdom Ahiataku-Togobo, the Director at AT Consult, a sustainable Energy Consulting firm disclosed to the Ghana News Agency on the sidelines of the 15th session of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in Abu Dhabi.

Under the theme, “Accelerating the Renewable Energy Transition – The Way Forward,” the two-day meeting brought together ministers and high-level delegates from IRENA’s 139 Member States, academia, development banks, chief executives and youth, to enhance wider, cross-sectoral collaboration on the energy transition.

Mr Ahiataku-Togobo hinted that studies on wind energy potential had been conducted at 13 areas of which results showed that the wind speeds ranged from good to moderate along the coast from Tema to Aflao.

“The necessary wind speed measurements have been done, and locations where the wind speeds can easily be installed to give moderate to good power have been identified. It is now open for prospective investors to come and invest.”

“From the coast of Tema down to Aflao, the land is very plain, and there are no big tall trees, and no mountains on the way. So those were the areas that were found to have moderate to good wind speed and easy access for the installation of utility-scale wind power plants,” he added.

The necessary policy instruments, Mr Ahiataku-Togobo said, had been put in place to attract investors in the sector.

Mr Ahiataku-Togobo who is the immediate past Director of Renewable Energy at the Ministry of Energy and the Bui Power Authority stated that significant progress had also been made in the area of wave energy and that it would be included in the country’s energy mix in the immediate future.

“Wave energy potential was found around Ada through Anloga and Keta. It is not surprising because that section of the sea has strong waves and it is difficult for fishermen to go there for expedition,” he said.

“Indeed, there was a test wave energy plant installed and within three days the wave was so strong that it shattered the whole thing. The team of engineers are remodelling a more robust plant, which is almost done for testing.”

Mr Ahiataku-Togobo expressed the hope that the country by the close of the year (2025) would have the first five megawatt wave system in place.

In the sub-region, he said the country had done creditably well in the area of renewable energy explaining that 30 per cent of its energy was generated by Akosombo and Bui hydro dams while plans were in place to increase it by 10 per cent in the next five years.

Ghana’s total GreenHouse Gas (GHG) emissions recorded a three-fold increase, from 1990 to 2022, driven largely by energy sector growth, the latest Ghana’s Sixth National Greenhouse Gas Inventory Report by the Environmental Protection Agency has revealed.

Energy is dominated by fuel combustion; the sector’s emissions surged ninefold from 1990 to 2022.

In the same period, stationary combustion significantly increased by 847.0 per cent.

Both energy sources were driven by increased vehicle numbers and a shift from fuel oil to natural gas in electricity generation.

Similarly, GHG emissions from oil and gas also significantly increased due to the increased expansion of the industry (production and development) since commercialisation in 2012.

Since 2012, the emissions have risen by 498.9 per cent relative to the 2022 levels.

Mr Ahiataku-Togobo and other energy experts with deep insight in the sector told GNA that they were of the strong view that policy directions to increase renewable energy projects, the inclusion of nuclear power as the energy baseload would reduce emissions in the sector.

He said that increasing access to cheap power, would support Ghana’s planned transition from fossil fuel-powered vehicles to the use of electronic vehicles and encourage electric cooking.

“That will also mean reducing the poor air quality causing public health concerns and economic burden on people and the country,” he said.

Kwame Poku bags brace as Kotoko ease to big win over Vision FC, Samartex draw with Hearts of Oak

0

Asante Kotoko climbed to third place on the league table as Prosper Narteh Ogum’s side cruised to a stunning 4-1 victory at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium over Vision FC.

Kotoko controlling affairs virtually from the start and took an early lead courtesy Kwame Poku’s 7th strike.

However, Vision FC were soon level, as Nana Yaw Osei scored to make it 1-1 during the 22nd minute.

Yet Kotoko remained largely on top in a pulsating first half and moved back in front nine minutes later through Peter Amidu Acquah.

Kwame Poku had been a menace throughout, and got his second goal, making 3-1 on the 37th minute for the Porcupine Warriors.

With Kotoko showing no mercy, Dauda Saaka then added the final goal just a minute before halftime.

In the second half, Asante Kotoko maintained their top performance but failed to make their threat count as the game ended with the first half scoreline.

Prosper Ogum’s side, now two points behind leaders Gold Stars and can go top with victory over Karela United on week 18 while Vision FC must somehow pull out of a slump that has seen them go 8 away league games without a win at a crucial stage of the season.

Elsewhere, Hearts of Oak were unable to break their winless run against Samartex. The Phobians were held to a goalless draw at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena.

They now find themselves 6th on the league table with 29 points from 17 games.

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been celebrated not only for his political leadership but also for the remarkable health and resilience he demonstrated during his eight years in office during a thanksgiving mass held in his honor at the Accra Ridge Church on 18 January 2025.

Rt. Rev Dr. Daniel Sylvanus Mensah Torto, the Anglican Bishop of Accra, offered a reflection on Akufo-Addo’s tenure, highlighting his good health and the protection he had experienced despite the immense pressures of his high-profile role.

“Despite traveling in vehicles and racing at top speed, he has not been in an accident. Despite all the challenges that can come with working in such a high-profile and stressful office, we have never heard that he has been admitted to the hospital,” Bishop Mensah Torto shared with the congregation, attributing this to the divine protection that had been bestowed upon the former president.

The Bishop continued, tying the former president’s experiences to a verse from the Bible, Lamentations 3:22, which says: “Because of the Lord’s great love, we are not consumed. For his compassions never fail; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

According to Bishop Mensah Torto, these words exemplify the unwavering grace that had accompanied Akufo-Addo throughout his presidency.

“God has been good to His Excellency and to his family,” he concluded, emphasizing that divine faithfulness had sustained the former president through his demanding time in office.

In addition to celebrating Akufo-Addo’s health and safety, Bishop Mensah Torto presented a citation to the former president.

The citation acknowledged the significant achievements of his administration, particularly in the areas of education, economic development, industrialization, and his unwavering commitment to democratic principles.

One of the standout initiatives, that has had a lasting impact on Ghana’s youth, was the implementation of the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy, which made secondary education more accessible to a wider population.

Moreover, the citation highlighted Akufo-Addo’s contributions to the Anglican Church in Ghana, recognizing his support for religious institutions during his time in office.

His work was seen as a testament to his belief in the importance of education, the economy, and the nurturing of spiritual and social values.

NPP Ashanti Regional communications director begs Rev. Owusu Bempah for forgiveness [Listen]

0

The Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, Paul Yando, has apologized to the Founder and Leader of Glorious Word Power Ministries International, Rev. Owusu Bempah, for any offense the party may have caused him.

In an interview with Addai Munumkum on Adom FM’s Sunday afternoon news, he stated that the party had wronged the renowned man of God in many ways.

He further explained that Rev. Owusu Bempah turning against the NPP had a significant impact on their performance in the 2024 elections.

“He was with us in 2016 and 2020, but the party failed to support him when he was arrested by the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akufo-Dampare. This made the man of God turn against us, and now we have seen the consequences,” he said.

Paul Yando also mentioned that they did not take Rev. Owusu Bempah’s prophecies about the 2024 election seriously, dismissing them as jokes. However, those prophecies eventually came to pass.

“Let me quote his words: ‘We will lose the election, and our defeat will be massive, beyond comprehension.’ And indeed, we lost heavily, beyond imagination,” he said.

The Ashanti Regional Communications Director reiterated his apology, asking Rev. Owusu Bempah to forgive the party and expressed their readiness to reconcile.

He further explained that in every institution, there are pastors, contractors, and financiers who contribute to the direction of the organization. However, the party failed to honor someone who stood by them in 2016 and 2020, and now they are paying the price.

“Rev. Owusu Bempah is a true NPP member. As the African proverb says, ‘If you wrong someone, you apologize and seek reconciliation.’ Rev., I am begging you to forgive us and come back to us. We are deeply sorry,” he concluded.
