In a surprising turn of events, Samuel Aboagye, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East, has withdrawn his court case challenging the Electoral Commission’s (EC) re-declaration of election results.
The case, which was filed after the EC’s second collation of results overturned Aboagye’s initial victory, raised concerns about alleged irregularities in the electoral process.
Samuel Aboagye, who was initially declared the winner of the Obuasi East parliamentary election on December 7, 2024, had his victory overturned after the EC conducted a second collation of results on December 21, 2024.
The re-collation, which was conducted at the EC’s Greater Accra Regional Office, confirmed Patrick Boakye Yiadom of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the winner by a narrow margin of 19 votes.
In his court application, Samuel Aboagye sought to have the EC’s second collation and declaration of results declared null and void.
He also requested the court to mandate the EC to gazette the results collated on December 8, 2024, which he claimed declared him the winner.
However, in a sudden change of heart, Aboagye’s lawyers, led by Elikplim Agbemava, withdrew the application with the liberty to re-apply.
According to the court records, Gary Nimako, counsel for Patrick Boakye Yiadom, did not oppose the withdrawal request.
However, Justice Forson Baah Agyepong subsequently struck out the application as withdrawn with the liberty to re-apply.
The withdrawal of the case brings to an end the controversy surrounding the Obuasi East parliamentary election results.

In a significant development, the Accra High Court General Jurisdiction 2, presided over by Justice Forson Agyapong, has granted an application by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to compel the Electoral Commission (EC) to re-collate results in the Tema Central Constituency.
This ruling comes after the EC had earlier declared results for the constituency, which the NPP contested.
The court’s decision was based on three key grounds.
Firstly, the EC failed to collate results from all polling stations in the constituency.
Secondly, the person who declared the results was not the designated returning officer.
Thirdly, there was evidence that the NPP had demanded a recollation of results, but the EC had refused to act.
As a result, the court has ordered the EC to collate the results of the two outstanding polling stations and add them to the already collated results.
Additionally, the court has directed the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to provide security for the EC to carry out this exercise.
This development is the latest twist in the ongoing controversy surrounding the December 7, 2024, parliamentary elections.
The EC had earlier gazetted the results for 274 constituencies, but the results for two constituencies, including Tema Central, remained outstanding due to disputes over the collation process.
The NPP’s application to the court is part of its efforts to ensure transparency and accuracy in the electoral process.
The party had raised concerns about irregularities in the collation of results in several constituencies, including Tema Central.

Cudjoe criticized the actions of the incumbent officeholder and declared, “The next government must ensure a decent and fair-minded human being is Minister for Justice.” In his remarks, Cudjoe directly criticized Godfred Yeboah Dame’s time serving as Attorney General and Minister for Justice, pointing out what he sees as a serious lack of honesty and equity in the role.

“At age 75, you lived your life well. Yesterday, you called me several times asking me to come see you. We sat on the bed and spoke at length about politics, life, farming, business, and of course, we gossiped. We even talked about my swearing-in in 3 days, and you specifically told me to serve diligently in government,” he stated.
However, shortly after leaving his father’s house, John Dumelo said he received a distressing call that his father had become unresponsive.
Despite efforts to stabilize him after being rushed to the hospital, his father passed away shortly after arrival.
“Ten minutes after I left your house, I was called that you were not responding. I rushed back, we took you to the hospital, and you were gone,” he wrote.
In paying his respect, Dumelo described his father as not only a parent but also his best friend and biggest cheerleader, expressing deep sorrow at the loss, particularly so close to his swearing-in ceremony.
“Thank you for being my father, thank you for being my best friend, thank you for being my number one cheerleader, and thank you for everything you did for me. Say hi to Mum for us all… we will miss you. Rest in perfect peace, Engineer John William Kudzo Anato-Dumelo Snr.,” he posted.
The late Engineer John William Kudzo Anato-Dumelo Snr. passed away at the age of 75.

The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has declared that its ongoing strike will continue until a resolution is reached by the Council, despite calls to end the action.
The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) had earlier directed CETAG to suspend the strike to allow for further dialogue. This followed a closed-door meeting between GTEC and CETAG after the association declared a strike on Thursday, January 2, 2025, over unresolved issues.
In a press statement, GTEC’s Director-General, Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, criticized the timing of the strike, describing it as counterproductive. He appealed to CETAG to call off the action and engage in continued discussions, emphasizing GTEC’s commitment to resolving their concerns.
However, speaking on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Maxwell Bunu, President of CETAG, maintained that the strike could only be moderated, not completely called off. He argued that the government’s financial commitments to date have been inadequate to address their grievances fully.
“What we saw today, probably if they were to show those documents to us, the commitments they had made earlier, we wouldn’t have been where we are. It has always been documentation and promises, we have not seen any full action.
“All the documents they have shown to us, we need to brief the council, about what transpired today, [Friday] and the council will take a decision from there. Based on what I have seen today, I made it known to Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai that it’s not sufficient to enable us to call off or suspend the strike.
“We’re not calling off this strike, the best we can do is to moderate the elements of the strike. For us to just call it off I don’t think that is feasible.”
He accused the government of being insensitive to their concerns.

The price of crude oil globally ended the Year 2024 in the low $70s per barrel. At this price, the government should seize the opportunity to reduce the prices of fuel and reset the economy. The high price of fuel and food has led to high inflation and high cost of living.
As a result, many Ghanaians are faced with unbearable hardships, with many now slipping below the poverty line. But what can the new government do to ameliorate living standards when the world crude oil price is low? Most importantly, reduce the prices of fuel to relieve Ghanaians of the economic hardships.
According to BBC news, Ghana’s vote during the election brings to an end a remarkable 12 months in African politics, which have seen five transfers of power – more than ever before. This “annus horribilis” for governments has now also brought opposition victories in Botswana, Mauritius, Senegal and the self-declared republic of Somaliland.
As stated by BBC news, even beyond these results almost every election held in the region this year under reasonably democratic conditions, has seen the governing party lose a significant number of seats.
BBC attributed this trend to a combination of factors:
• the economic downturn
• growing public intolerance of corruption
• and the emergence of increasingly assertive and well-co-ordinated opposition parties.
The global crude oil price has presently cooled down. But factors such as geopolitical situations in Middle East and Russia war with Ukraine could drive crude oil price back up.
Instead of Ghanaians enjoying the reduction in crude oil price we are faced with the same high prices of fuel. The new government could take advantage of the opportunity presented by the market. Thus, offering Ghanaians the relief they need at the pump.
What the new government needs is a long term purchase plan to source petroleum products. Ghana should hedge the price of these products with a reliable refinery and sign a long term contract.
This will protect the country against the fluctuations of fuel prices due to volatility of world crude oil market and stabilize the economy.
The necessary steps must be taken urgently by the new government to give Ghanaians a break at the pump. And take advantage of the opportunity presented by the market to purchase fuel at a reduced price. Thereby passing the benefits of the cost reduction of crude oil to Ghanaians.
Potentially, prices of most common petroleum products would be reduced and stabilized with a long term contract with a reliable refinery. This will ensure Ghanaians benefit from the reduction of the world crude oil price and secure our energy future.

Following the NDC’s decision to drop Stonebwoy from their election victory concert, one of the reasons given for the development was that a section of NDC supporters expressed dissatisfaction, citing speculation about his alleged ties to the opposing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
However, many netizens have pointed to the possibility that Baba Sadiq, Stonebwoy’s nemesis, could be the mastermind behind the situation.
Baba Sadiq, an influential figure in the entertainment industry and the NDC Parliamentary candidate for Okaikoi Central, has had a long-standing feud with Stonebwoy throughout 2024, and they are currently not on good terms.
Some netizens predicted that when the NDC finally comes to power, Stonebwoy may not be favoured under the administration, as Baba Sadiq, an active member of the party, could go to great lengths to block his opportunities.
Currently contesting the Okaikoi Central seat in court, some netizens have speculated that things could worsen for Stonebwoy if Baba Sadiq eventually becomes an MP or even the creative arts minister under the John Mahama-led government.
Amid these speculations, the recent decision to drop Stonebwoy from the NDC’s upcoming concert has led many to believe that the ‘sabotage’ of Stonebwoy’s career may have already begun.
The Rift Between Baba Sadiq and Stonebwoy
The feud between Baba Sadiq and Stonebwoy began when Stonebwoy failed to show up at Baba Sadiq’s 3Music Sallahfest event, citing a breach of contract.
Stonebwoy explained that there was an earlier agreement with Baba Sadiq not to share flyers for the concert because it was a charitable event and not a paid one.
However, Stonebwoy claimed that Baba Sadiq went ahead and shared the flyers, leading him to cancel his participation just days before the concert.
On the other hand, Baba Sadiq explained that Stonebwoy didn’t show up because he was unhappy that his music rival, Shatta Wale, was also billed to perform at the same event.
The Artiste of the Year saga
Baba Sadiq further escalated his feud with Stonebwoy during the 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards, where he campaigned vigorously against Stonebwoy, tipping King Promise for the “Artiste of the Year” title.
Baba Sadiq argued that Stonebwoy didn’t deserve the award, claiming that King Promise, his key contender, was more deserving.
He took to social media and appeared on radio and TV discussion platforms to publicly support King Promise for the win while disparaging Stonebwoy’s achievements in the year under review.
The alleged threat and Baba Sadiq’s rants
As the online tension between the two went on, Baba Sadiq alleged that Stonebwoy had placed a call to his wife, threatening her to “keep him in check.”
Baba Sadiq expressed his displeasure, saying that Stonebwoy had disrespected his wife by involving her in their feud.
Further rants, allegations, and lawsuit
Baba Sadiq intensified his attacks, describing Stonebwoy’s public personality as a “facade” and alleging that the BHIM Nation boss was a “privately horrible and arrogant person.”
He also accused Stonebwoy of being a “violent abuser of women.”
In response to these allegations, Stonebwoy filed a lawsuit against Baba Sadiq, seeking GH¢3 million in damages for defamation.
Baba Sadiq, on the other hand, remained resolute and expressed no regret for his actions or statements.

The Accra Circuit Court 9 has remanded 35-year-old trader Benjamin Appiah Boateng into police custody for allegedly defrauding two individuals of USD300,000 and GHC10,445,000 through fraudulent online investments.
Boateng reportedly took the funds from Mr Berry Kwadwo Agyapong and Mr David Burke by promising to invest them in UDST and Binance cryptocurrency platforms.
His plea was not taken, as he is under investigation for stealing and fraud.
Mr. Samuel Bright Acquah, who presided over the case, ordered Boateng to appear in court again on January 13, 2025.
Police Chief Inspector Jonas Lawer informed the court that both complainants, Mr Burke, a businessman, and Mr Agyapong, a business consultant, reside in Accra.
Boateng, a trader from Oyibi, was introduced to Mr Burke by Mr Agyapong as a Forex trader specialising in online investments in UDST and cryptocurrency.
At the time of the introduction, Mr. Agyapong had already invested approximately USD300,000 in UDST and Binance.
Mr Agyapong convinced Mr Burke of the investment’s profitability and steady dividend returns, leading Mr Burke to invest an initial sum of GHC555,000.
Subsequently, Mr Burke gave Boateng an additional GHC9,890,000 to increase the investment further.
According to Chief Inspector Lawer, Boateng assured both complainants that the investments were progressing well and that dividends were being paid out as promised.
However, on December 14, 2024, Mr Burke requested to end the investment, asking for the return of his total capital and any available dividends.
The court heard that upon Mr Burke’s request to end the investments, Boateng stopped answering phone calls from both complainants.
This led Mr. Burke to contact Mr. Agyapong about the accused’s behaviour.
When Mr Agyapong called Boateng to inquire why he had been ignoring their calls, Boateng reportedly sent a WhatsApp voice note along with a purported suicide note.
In the note, Boateng claimed that he had gambled away their entire investments on an online gambling platform called “Stake.”
A report was made to the police, which led to Boateng’s arrest.
During questioning, he admitted to the offences.

Accra, Jan. 3, GNA – Legon Cities have officially announced the appointment of Yaw Acheampong as their new Head Coach.
Acheampong takes over from Paa Kwesi Fabin, whose contract was terminated following a poor run of results.
The experienced tactician would be hoping to guide the ‘Royals’ to safety as they are currently rock bottom of the league with 11 points.
Acheampong would be yearning for a good start with the club when they play Accra Hearts of Oak later on Friday at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
Acheampong was recently dismissed as head coach of Aduana Stars after inconsistent results in the ongoing 2024-25 Ghana Premier League.
It would certainly be a tough task for Acheampong as he seeks to rescue Legon Cities, who have some tough upcoming fixtures.

Member of Parliament for Odododiodioo, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has criticised President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, alleging that the outgoing president has no substantial legacy to his name as his tenure comes to an end.
Vanderpuye accused the president of relying on self-praise and exaggerated claims of achievements rather than delivering tangible results.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Friday, January 3, 2025, the MP remarked, “The President was consistent in one thing: praising himself when he didn’t deserve praise and also presenting figures and scenarios that were not factual.”
Vanderpuye also took aim at the President’s track record in sports development, describing it as disappointing. He argued that the sector, under President Akufo-Addo’s leadership, suffered neglect and failed to meet the expectations of Ghanaians.
The MP’s remarks come as the President delivered his final State of the Nation Address, reflecting on his administration’s performance over the past eight years.
“On the issue of sports, for example, a president who always wants to be seen as a person who is perfect and has performed excellently. In the area of sports where he has performed so poorly, how would you want him to talk about it? This is because he accepts the fact that sports is one area where he has performed so poorly.
“Youth development is also one area the government has performed so poorly. This is because in spite of all the so-called interventions; NABCO, planting for food and jobs, all indicators show that the president failed in those areas.”
The president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, presented his final State of the Nations Address in Parliament on Friday, January 3.
In his presentation, Akufo-Addo stated that serving as the President of Ghana has been the greatest honour of his life, describing it as one marked by significant challenges and triumphs.
He acknowledged that his time in office had demanded his full energy, commitment, and love for the country.

Or will ballot snatching, ballot stuffing and ballot printing be strategies to uphold?
Hmm, I was uncertain and afraid on that December seven;
On that cagy election day, full of tension
So much hope, I knew, for the incumbent government, there was;
So much promises, I knew, this government, made
But deep down l knew we are in sorrow;
We need to vote for a better tomorrow.
To undo the seductive promise of one district one factory;
And to untie the decoy of one million dollar for each constituency;
And thank God our conscience guided our vote;
Ending our collective anger and democratic revolt.
The electorate overwhelmingly, and without mercy, kicked against the massive loot;
And overwhelmingly did so, and without pity, with the power of their thumb, in the voting booth.
And thank God for Dr Bawumia’s statesmanlike early concession speech too.
Oh! Thank the heavens, the surveillance of our men in uniform was second to none
Preventing the Electoral Commission to outfox was meticulously done
But yes! Still, six died, in our young election democracy
Even when ballot stuffing and ballot snatching were cleverly and vigilantly aborted in our polity
But all in all the politics of impertinency and trickery has given way to the politics of civility and serenity
The electorate did not give the Supreme Court this time to declare the winner in our society
Above all, our people manifested that The Sovereignty of Ghana resides in the people of Ghana
And in the name of the people, the President elect and his NDC government shall exercise the powers of government
Indeed, a sense of hope rebounds.

First Lady H.E. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, wife of President Nana Akufo-Addo, clearly did not take kindly to the harsh words used by Deputy Minority Leader Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah in criticizing her husband’s performance over the last eight years.
The MP, in his remarks following the President’s delivery of the State of the Nation Address on Friday, January 2025 — the President’s last before exiting office on December 7 — stated that the outgoing leader had failed to deliver effectively. He described President Akufo-Addo’s eight years in office as clear evidence of his inability to govern the nation effectively.
“Let me remind His Excellency that his tenure in office will remain a timely reminder of how not to govern a country,” he stated.
Mr. Armah-Kofi Buah further claimed that the President’s poor performance was resoundingly reflected in the December elections.
“This abysmal record was confirmed on December 7th when the people of Ghana delivered the most overwhelming and emphatic vote of rejection any government has ever witnessed in the Fourth Republic,” he added.
The Deputy Minority Leader also criticized the President for reckless borrowing and mismanagement of state funds.
“Mr. President, you will be remembered as the first President who was cautioned by the IMF when you began, and you are still being cautioned at the end of your term. You left something very important out of your account — your promise to God to build a cathedral. But, Mr. President, I will leave that between you and your God,” he remarked.
In response, First Lady H.E. Rebecca Akufo-Addo confronted Mr. Armah-Kofi Buah about his remarks as she was leaving the chamber.
A video shared on the social media platform X shows the First Lady, visibly displeased, angrily addressing the MP for Ellembele while the President’s team was leaving Parliament after signing the chronicle.
In another video, Mrs. Akufo-Addo is seen briefly walking out on the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin. She is heard mumbling, “You sit there and allow people to speak anyhow.”
Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo confronted Hon Buah for describing his husband as the worst President of the Fourth Republic.

In his recent rants online, former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan opened up on the challenges he has faced due to his ‘realness’ and non-conformity while drawing comparisons to Shatta Wale, whom he believes has experienced a similar fate.
What began as a reaction to the Kantamanto fire incident took a personal turn when Asamoah Gyan began discussing how his genuine nature and refusal to conform have often made him a target of hatred and disrespect.
This led to him referencing Shatta Wale, stating that both of them share certain traits when it comes to dealing with hatred and staying true to themselves.
Buttressing his points further, he also mentioned that people, including some legends whom he has achieved more than, often take his humility for granted.
Asamoah Gyan said he usually keeps such people in check, even if it leads to being labeled disrespectful, a trait he believes Shatta Wale also possesses.
“I’ve achieved more than some of my colleagues, but when I see them, I respect them. Because I respect them, they try to disrespect me and take me for granted. But when they do, I quickly let them know that they cannot try that with me. I make them aware that I have achieved more than them, and it’s out of respect that I obey them,” Gyan explained.
He continued, “That is how Shatta Waleis. When Shatta Wale sees Reggie Rockstone and other legends, he will bow down. It doesn’t mean he is stupid. But when those legends step on his toes, he will insult them to remind them of their place. That guy, watch his life and watch mine. It’s a natural gift.”
Asamoah Gyan further emphasised his belief that he has always been “the chosen one,” receiving opportunities amidst millions of others.
“From my infancy, I’ve always been favoured and chosen for opportunities. You can ask around. It’s a gift that no one can take away from me. I always stand out. Out of thousands, and millions, I’m often the chosen one. That’s how Shatta Wale is. Sometimes, I get shocked by these personal traits,” he stated.
The former Black Stars captain then recounted how years ago, after the success of Shatta Wale’s “Bandana” track, the artiste was blacklisted by the music industry because he refused to conform and remained true to himself.
“When he released ‘Bandana,’ it blew up and he was happy. But fast forward a year or two, I saw Nii Armah (Shatta Wale) on the streets looking dirty and unkempt. According to the facts I gathered, at that time, Shatta Waledidn’t comply with the industry’s expectations. He is a real person. You can’t tell him what to do, so people in the industry wanted to control him. Because he didn’t allow that, they cut his music off from the mainstream media and sabotaged him to the point where he went broke,” Asamoah Gyan said.
He added, “He was from a rich home but decided to go on the streets. I was coming back from training when I saw him, and I parked and cried. My classmate, who after the ‘Bandana’ hit was looking like that, I was hurt. So, I stopped in front of Blue Lagoon, where he stayed with his friends, and interacted with him. I asked what happened, and he said, ‘Life happened.’”

The High Court will today, Saturday, January 4, deliver its ruling on the mandamus application filed by the NPP concerning the constituencies of Tema Central, Okaikwei Central, Techiman South, and Ablekuma North.
This decision follows the court’s earlier dismissal of an objection by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which questioned the court’s jurisdiction to entertain the application.
Lawyers for the NPP argued that the Electoral Commission (EC) should be compelled to complete the collation of results in the affected constituencies. Gary Nimako, leading the team of lawyers for the NPP candidates, stated that the EC had failed to complete the collation process between December 8, 2024, and January 1, 2025.
Describing this delay as unreasonable, Nimako emphasized that constituents in these areas have a right to know the results and the winning candidates.
He further argued that while the NDC claims declarations were made in the affected constituencies, there is no evidence to support this assertion. Addressing video evidence presented in court, Nimako contended that the purported declaration in Tema Central was made by an individual other than the returning officer, which constitutes a breach of the law.
Nimako cited Regulation 43 of C.I. 127, which stipulates that results must be documented on Forms 1C and 1D of the Electoral Commission. He argued that the absence of these forms in the exhibits corroborates the claim that proper declarations were not made.
He also noted that the Electoral Commission itself acknowledged that the declarations were made without completing the collation of polling station results.
The Electoral Commission, represented by Justin Amenuvor, supported the NPP’s application and urged the court to order it to complete its duty. Amenuvor conceded that the collation processes in the affected constituencies remained incomplete. He warned that failure to issue such an order could set a dangerous precedent, potentially enabling unlawful interference in future elections.
Meanwhile, lawyers for the NDC candidates opposed the application. Godwin Tameklo, representing the NDC, argued that a prerequisite for granting a mandamus is a demand that has been refused. He maintained that no such demand had been made in this case.
Tameklo further referenced the video evidence, asserting that it indicated a declaration had already been made in the Tema Central case. According to him, any challenge to the validity of this declaration should be pursued through a petition, not a mandamus.
The court’s ruling on January 4, 2025, is expected to clarify the legal obligations of the Electoral Commission and the procedures for resolving electoral disputes in the affected constituencies.

A judge has ordered that Donald Trump will be sentenced on 10 January in his hush-money case in New York – less than two weeks before he is set to be sworn in as president.
New York Justice Juan Merchan signalled he would not sentence Trump to jail time, probation or a fine, but instead give him an “unconditional discharge”, and wrote in his order that the president-elect could appear in person or virtually for the hearing.
Trump had attempted to use his presidential election victory to have the case against him dismissed.
The president-elect has posted on social media dismissing the judge’s order as an “illegitimate political attack” and calling the case “nothing but a rigged charade”.
Trump was convicted in May of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records related to a $130,000 (£105,000) payment to adult-film star Stormy Daniels.
The charges related to attempts to cover up reimbursements to his ex-lawyer, Michael Cohen, who in the final days of the 2016 election campaign paid off the adult film star to remain silent about an alleged sexual encounter with Trump.
The president-elect has denied all wrongdoing and pleaded not guilty, arguing the case was an attempt to harm his 2024 presidential campaign.
In the post on his Truth Social platform on Saturday Trump said the judge’s sentencing order “goes against our Constitution and, if allowed to stand, would be the end of the Presidency as we know it”.
Trump’s spokesperson Steven Cheung earlier called the order part of a “witch hunt”.
“President Trump must be allowed to continue the presidential transition process and to execute the vital duties of the presidency, unobstructed by the remains of this or any remnants of the witch hunts,” Cheung said.
“There should be no sentencing, and President Trump will continue fighting against these hoaxes until they are all dead.”
In his latest motion against the case, Trump had argued the case would hang over him during his presidency and impede his ability to govern.
Justice Merchan said he had been advised of several measures he could employ that could assuage Trump’s concerns about being distracted by a criminal case while serving as president that fell short of the “extreme remedy” of overturning the jury’s verdict.
His options included delaying the sentencing until Trump, 78, leaves the White House in 2029, or guaranteeing a sentence that would not involve prison time.
Trump had initially, and unsuccessfully, argued the case against him ran afoul of a Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity.
In July, the country’s top court ruled that presidents have broad immunity from criminal prosecution for “official actions” they take while in office.
However, last month Justice Merchan ruled Trump’s hush money conviction was valid.
Trump is currently set to be the first convicted felon to serve in the White House.
He may attempt to appeal against the conviction after the sentencing.
While falsifying business records is punishable by up to four years in prison in the US, there is no minimum sentence and incarceration is not required.
Even before his election victory, legal experts thought it was unlikely Trump would face jail time given his age and his legal record.
Trump has also been charged in three other state and federal criminal cases: one involving classified documents and two relating to his alleged efforts to overturn his loss in the election of 2020.
The president-elect was initially scheduled to be sentenced on 26 November, but Justice Merchan pushed the date back after Trump won the presidential election.

Notable training programs he attended include the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC) negotiation techniques course in Kampong Cham, Cambodia, and a peacekeeping training course by the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations (UNDPKO) in Accra (1997). He also undertook a course for consultation experts in human rights for members of armed forces in Geneva.

First Lady H.E. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, wife of President Nana Akufo-Addo, clearly did not take kindly to the harsh words used by Deputy Minority Leader Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah in criticizing her husband’s performance over the last eight years.
The MP, in his remarks following the President’s delivery of the State of the Nation Address on Friday, January 2025 — the President’s last before exiting office on December 7 — stated that the outgoing leader had failed to deliver effectively. He described President Akufo-Addo’s eight years in office as clear evidence of his inability to govern the nation effectively.
“Let me remind His Excellency that his tenure in office will remain a timely reminder of how not to govern a country,” he stated.
Mr. Armah-Kofi Buah further claimed that the President’s poor performance was resoundingly reflected in the December elections.
“This abysmal record was confirmed on December 7th when the people of Ghana delivered the most overwhelming and emphatic vote of rejection any government has ever witnessed in the Fourth Republic,” he added.
The Deputy Minority Leader also criticized the President for reckless borrowing and mismanagement of state funds.
“Mr. President, you will be remembered as the first President who was cautioned by the IMF when you began, and you are still being cautioned at the end of your term. You left something very important out of your account — your promise to God to build a cathedral. But, Mr. President, I will leave that between you and your God,” he remarked.
In response, First Lady H.E. Rebecca Akufo-Addo confronted Mr. Armah-Kofi Buah about his remarks as she was leaving the chamber.
A video shared on the social media platform X shows the First Lady, visibly displeased, angrily addressing the MP for Ellembele while the President’s team was leaving Parliament after signing the chronicle.
In another video, Mrs. Akufo-Addo is seen briefly walking out on the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin. She is heard mumbling, “You sit there and allow people to speak anyhow.”

Speaking to Parliament on January 3 during his final State of the Nation Address (SONA), Akufo-Addo highlighted the importance of the project, describing it as a critical component of efforts to strengthen the country’s health system.
“The most important intervention is the Agenda 111 project that we have embarked upon. I am hoping that the incoming Mahama administration will ensure the project is completed so we can have our health infrastructure in a sound state,” he stated.
