play videoJoe Beecham is a Ghanaian gospel musician
Veteran Ghanaian gospel musician, Joe Beecham, has reflected on the evolution of gospel music in Ghana, noting significant changes in production quality, technology and industry recognition over the years.
Speaking in an interview with GhanaWeb’s Isaac Dadzie after the 2025 Praise Achievement Awards on December 14, 2025, Joe explained that modern gospel music has benefited greatly from advancements in studio technology and recording equipment.
According to him, earlier recordings lacked the sophisticated software available today to correct vocal pitch or edit performances.
“The generation is a bit different from that of the past. It is growing. We have better studios now and better equipment. I don’t know if you’ve seen Joe Mettel’s studio, but the difference is “clear. When we were recording in the past, it was one direct take. You started singing from top to bottom without any cuts. If you made a mistake, you had to start all over again.

“There was no software to correct pitches or do any form of editing. What you sang was exactly what came out. Today, you can cut and paste. You sing one chorus and repeat it as many times as you want. They are blessed with more gadgets, software, and technology. Because of that, the music is growing, and singing is becoming finer and finer,” he said.
Joe Beecham also highlighted the growth of gospel music within the Ghana Music Awards, noting that the genre previously received minimal recognition compared to today.
“When I started releasing songs, there were only one or two categories for gospel music at the Ghana Music Awards. In fact, the award I won was Discovery of the Year, not even a gospel category. Now, it has expanded significantly. Gospel music has become big, and this is our own.
“If we support gospel music, it will become even bigger and better. It will continue to grow and accommodate more artistes. I saw many categories this time, even very broad ones,” he added.

The Electoral Commission (EC) says it is fully prepared to conduct the parliamentary rerun in the Kpandai Constituency scheduled for Tuesday, December 30, 2025, despite an ongoing legal challenge.
Deputy Director of Research at the EC, Fred Tetteh, said preparations for the rerun are on course, stressing that the Commission is acting in line with the law while monitoring developments at the Supreme Court.
Mr. Tetteh explained that the Commission fixed the December 30 date as a law-abiding institution and would proceed unless the Supreme Court rules otherwise.
Speaking in an interview with Joy News on Monday, December 15, Mr. Tetteh said, “We are aware of an Appeal in court, and as a law-abiding institution, we fixed the date on December 30, 2025. We don’t know what will happen from the Appeal. Whatever happens, if the Supreme Court rules otherwise, we’re going by our date.”
He disclosed that ballot papers will be printed in Accra and that political parties will be duly informed of the printing schedule.
Training of election officials, he said, will take place within five days of the poll, while recruitment processes have already begun.
According to him, the EC has recalled officials who will oversee the rerun and will soon publish a notice of poll to formally notify residents of Kpandai about the election and related arrangements.
Mr. Tetteh added that all remaining preparatory activities, including the printing of ballot papers and public notices, can be completed within ten days.
“In terms of the ballot paper printing, we will inform the political parties of the date. Training will be done within five days of the poll. In terms of the preparations, we are ready. We will publish a notice of poll to inform the public in Kpandai about the conduct of the rerun and the printing of ballot papers.
He added, “These things can be done within 10 days. We are in the process of recruiting. We have recalled the officials who will be conducting the election. We will not print the ballot papers in Kpandai; everything will be done in Accra.”
Parliament declared the Kpandai seat vacant following a ruling by the Tamale High Court, which ordered a rerun of the parliamentary election. The affected Member of Parliament, Mathew Nyindam, has since filed an has filed an application at the Supreme Court seeking to quash the judgment of the High Court, Commercial Division in Tamale, which annulled his parliamentary election victory.
Meanwhile, a new poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics ahead of the rerun has projected Mr. Nyindam, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, as the leading contender. The poll, released on Sunday, December 14, 2025, places him at 50 per cent voter support.
His closest rival, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Daniel Nsala Wakpal, secured 46 per cent in the survey, setting the stage for a keenly contested rerun in the constituency.

The Head of Communications at the British High Commission in Ghana, Ryan Wilson, has expressed optimism about the Black Stars’ chances of progressing from their group at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to him, England and Ghana are favourites to qualify from the group, based on their recent performances and the quality of players they possess.
Ghana to face Germany in pre-World Cup friendly
“I genuinely want Ghana and England to progress. I really think Ghana has a chance of doing it because, even though Croatia are ranked higher in the world, I don’t think they are quite the team they once were. They have good individuals, but I don’t think they are as strong,” he told Graphic Sports.
Wilson added that Ghana could secure a decent result against the Three Lions, noting, “Ghana has a strong team. The last time Ghana and England played in 2011, it ended in a draw. I also read a statistic that whenever Ghana play their second group game at the World Cup, they usually win, while England’s form tends to be inconsistent. So I think that game could go either way.”
The Black Stars face a challenging task on their path to the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup following the group-stage draw held on Friday, December 5, 2025.
Ghana has been placed in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama, with all four teams battling for a spot in the knockout phase.
Head coach Otto Addo has said that although England are favourites to top the group, he remains confident the Black Stars will advance to the next stage and avoid a group-stage exit.

The United States Embassy in Accra on Friday, December 12, hosted a conference that brought together media practitioners and sports stakeholders to examine the broader economic and social impact of the FIFA World Cup.
Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Ghana, Rolf Olson, in a key note address expressed strong enthusiasm about the United States’ role in hosting the global showpiece.
He noted that in nearly 25 years of service in the U.S. Foreign Service, this marked the first time he had been posted to a country in the build-up to a World Cup he would personally attend.
Deputy Assistant Secretary Will Stevens also highlighted the strong relationship between Ghana and the United States, noting that the bond between both countries is evident.
He expressed excitement about seeing Ghanaian fans in the U.S. supporting the Black Stars during the tournament.
Taking the stage, Benjamin Willie Graham drew on his extensive experience in sports broadcasting and administration to highlight the World Cup’s far-reaching impact beyond football.
Mr. Graham, a former Marketing Manager at the Ghana Football Association and founder of Spark Golden Media Consult, noted that Africa is set to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup as part of the tournament’s 100th anniversary.
He shared personal experiences from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and referenced FIFA’s Peace Prize initiative, which recognises individuals who use football to promote unity and peace, citing notable moments where football played a role in conflict resolution.
Mr. Graham emphasised the massive economic scale of the World Cup, noting that the United States expects about six million visitors in 2026.
He highlighted the success of the 1994 World Cup in the U.S., which recorded a total attendance of 3.6 million — a record that still stands.
He also outlined the financial benefits to participating nations, revealing that countries earn $9 million at the group stage, with increased prize money as teams progress, while host nations benefit indirectly through tourism, job creation, global visibility and infrastructure development.
According to FIFA projections shared at the conference, the governing body expects to generate approximately $8.9 billion in total revenue from the 2026 World Cup, underscoring the tournament’s power as both a sporting and economic force.
President Mahama (L) and Ooni of Ife (R) at the installation ceremony
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has heaped praises on President John Dramani Mahama, describing his leadership as transformative and predicting a greater future role for him on the African continent.
Speaking during an installation ceremony of President Mahama on Monday, December 15, 2025, the revered traditional ruler said President Mahama’s return to office had brought a remarkable turnaround in Ghana’s economy.
President Mahama conferred with prestigious chieftaincy title in Nigeria
Enitan Ogunwusi attributed this to the president’s ingenuity and leadership style.
“You did magic that has never been done before. Immediately you ascended the throne a second time, the entire Ghanaian economy turned around completely. Your ingenuity ways, we’re very proud of you,” the Ooni stated.
He further likened President Mahama’s leadership to a “Midas touch,” saying his influence had not only reshaped Ghana but was beginning to resonate across the Black race globally.
“You have a Midas touch and a golden torch, and that is why you are Aare Atayeto. You have rearranged Ghana, you have reformed it, and by extension, it has started spreading across the entire Black race,” he said.
The Ooni of Ife also expressed strong confidence in President Mahama’s future political prospects, suggesting that his leadership journey was far from over.
“So many things are in the offering for you. You are still young. I am very positive you will be the next President and Chairman of the African Union. We all know that,” he added.
President Mahama was installed as the Aare Atayeto Oodua of the Source by the Ooni of Ife in Nigeria during a ceremony, while he was lauded for his commitment to multilateralism.

Sunyani Technical University (STU) in the Bono Region has graduated 1,897 students at its 18th Congregation, with the Vice-Chancellor appealing to the government for increased support in staffing, infrastructure and student accommodation.
The graduands, drawn from the 2024/2025 academic year, were awarded Master of Technology (MTech), Bachelor of Technology/Bachelor of Science (BTech/BSc), Higher National Diploma (HND) and Diploma certificates in Engineering and Built Environment-related disciplines.
Vice-Chancellor of STU, Prof. Kwabena Adinkrah-Appiah, disclosed that 288 students, representing 15.2 per cent, graduated with First Class honours, while 1,109 students (58.5 per cent) earned Second Class Upper. A total of 463 students (24.4 per cent) obtained Second Class Lower, and 32 students (1.7 per cent) graduated with a Pass.
He noted that programmes in Engineering, Science and Technology, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and Applied Arts accounted for 70.7 per cent of the graduands, with the remaining 29.3 per cent from Humanities-related disciplines.
The congregation, held under the theme “Sustainable Skills Development for Global Job Creation and Employability,” reflected the need to equip graduates with adaptable, innovative and industry-relevant skills in a rapidly evolving global economy.
Prof. Adinkrah-Appiah said the theme aligns with Ghana’s national development agenda, particularly efforts to position TVET as a key driver of industrialisation and job creation, citing initiatives such as Ghana CARES ‘Obaatan Pa’ and the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP).
He explained that STU has adopted the Education 5.0 framework, integrating teaching, research, community service, innovation and industrialisation to produce graduates who are not only job seekers but also job creators.
The Vice-Chancellor disclosed that the University’s student population currently stands at 10,125, supported by 750 staff, made up of 570 full-time and 180 part-time employees. Faculty strength, he said, increased marginally from 249 in 2024 to 255 in 2025.
However, he expressed concern that the current staffing levels fall short of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission’s (GTEC) student–lecturer ratio requirements, compelling the University to rely heavily on part-time lecturers.
He therefore appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to approve the University’s pending request for financial clearance to recruit additional staff, warning that further delays could negatively affect academic quality.
Prof. Adinkrah-Appiah announced that STU currently runs 92 accredited programmes, comprising 13 MTech, 31 Bachelor’s degrees, 24 HND, five Diplomas, and 20 non-tertiary TVET craft programmes.
On infrastructure, he revealed that the government has granted GETFund financial clearance of GH¢72 million for Phase II of the STU Science Park Project, with construction already underway.
Additional clearance has also enabled the procurement of teaching and learning equipment, including computers, projectors and furniture.
He expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, the GETFund Board and GTEC for the support, while appealing for further assistance to construct student hostel facilities.
The Vice-Chancellor highlighted several achievements of the University, including winning the Best SDG Teaching and Learning Award at the 6th Africa Sustainability Report and Think Energy SDGs Awards 2025 in Accra. The Department of General Agriculture was also adjudged Best Tertiary Institution at the 41st National Farmers’ Day celebration in Sunyani East.
Additionally, STU has secured four fully funded Russian scholarships for its graduates to pursue postgraduate studies in Engineering, with the expectation that beneficiaries will return to serve as faculty members.
Female engineering students of the University also won the Debate Challenge at the 4th Women in Engineering (WINE) Affairs Competition held at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR).
Prof. Adinkrah-Appiah announced that STU will host the 2027 GHATUSA Games and has inaugurated a Local Organising Committee, appealing for investment in sports infrastructure, including the completion of the AstroTurf and tartan tracks.
He further disclosed that the University will mark its 60th anniversary in 2027, with a formal launch scheduled for April 2026.
Outlining challenges facing the institution, the Vice-Chancellor cited inadequate lecture halls, poor internal road networks and limited student accommodation.
He appealed for government support to construct a 1,200-bed hostel and provide asphalt overlay for the University’s six-kilometre internal road network, including the Waterloo stretch.
Addressing the graduating class, Prof. Adinkrah-Appiah urged them to embrace lifelong learning, innovation and collaboration, describing them as job creators rather than job seekers.
“The future belongs to those who can apply their skills sustainably, think critically and act responsibly,” he said.
Head coach of Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC, Abdul Karim Zito has hit back at Journalists for criticising him unnecessarily.
He openly blast sections of the media for criticising when he lamented on injury concerns of his team. Kotoko has being struggling to deal with occurrence of injury concerns since start of 2025/26 Ghana Premier league season.
The side has being dealing with over 12 player injuries, hence their inconsistent performance this season.
After Kotoko 1-0 narrow home victory over Dreams FC, Zito expressed frustration at what he described as unfair scrutiny of his explanations, particularly regarding the availability of players. Hitting at the media for dismissing his concerns on injuries.
“Some of you are putting pressure on me,” Zito told the media. “If Guardiola tells you that Rodri is injured, you’ll say it is okay. But if I, Karim Zito, tell you I have 13 players injured, you say it is not okay… Well, that is between you and your God.”
The Porcupine warriors have struggled to maintain momentum, making their victory over Dreams FC a hard-earned one.
They now sit 3rd on the log with 24 points, three points behind league leaders Aduana Stars FC.

Former Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has stated that her political future within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is closely linked to NPP flagbearer hopeful Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, not Kennedy Agyapong, citing concerns about how governance should be handled.
Addressing party members on Monday, December 15, Adwoa Safo clarified that her position is based on lessons from the party’s previous time in government and the recent electoral defeat, not personal animosity.
“I don’t hate Kennedy Agyapong. I have two beautiful children with him, so this is not about hatred,” she said, noting that governance and party leadership must go beyond family and friendships.
She added that treating governance as a family-and-friends matter contributed to the party’s loss of power, and stressed that political decisions should be based on competence, experience, and national interest.
Adwoa Safo also reflected on the potential scenario of Mr Agyapong winning the presidency, stating that even with her 12 years of service as a Member of Parliament and minister, her career could be limited under his leadership, as she does not foresee opportunities aligning with her political goals.
“Assuming he becomes President and goes to Jubilee House, and my CV is on the table, considering the service I have rendered to the party and the country, if he decides to appoint me as a minister because he is the father of my two children, there will be serious political backlash in Ghana.
“And the Kennedy Agyapong I know would not do that, so my political career and future are at stake,” she said, highlighting that her political path aligns with Dr Bawumia.

The family of 14-year-old Pius Ackah, who was shot dead during a clash at an illegal mining site in Adelekezu in the Nzema East Municipality, has appealed to the government to ensure justice is served.
Speaking to the media in a video shared by Channel One TV on Monday, December 15, 2025, the victim’s stepfather described the incident as heartbreaking for both the family and the entire community.
Huhunya Asafoatse demands police agreement over shooting range
He said the teenager’s death, which he linked to activities related to galamsey, had left the family devastated.
“I am a stepfather to the child called Pius Ackay. He is 14 years old. What has happened is very sad for everyone in the community and the entire family. In fact, it is unfortunate that through galamsey, such an incident has occurred. The bereaved family is very sad about this demise,” he said.
According to the family, the loss has been overwhelming, prompting an urgent call for state intervention.
The stepfather appealed to authorities to ensure fairness, stressing that justice should not be influenced by wealth or power.
“The entire family has lost a lot, so what we are asking of the government is that justice should prevail. In this country, what we are seeing now is that if you do not have money, sometimes people who have money fight against us. Looking at the family and what we have lost, we are pleading that the government should come to our aid and assist us. That is all we are fighting for,” he added.
Investigations into the shooting incident has since commenced by the Western Regional Police Command.
In a statement issued on December 14, 2025, and signed by Superintendent of Police Olivia ET Adiku, Head of the Public Affairs Unit in Sekondi, police said the incident occurred on Saturday, December 13, 2025.
The Bank of Ghana’s (BoG) gold coin prices continue to rise amid the cedi’s slight depreciation against the US dollar.
Buyers now need more cedis for a 1-ounce coin, which may limit smaller investors, but gold remains a stable investment and a hedge against inflation.
Introduced to curb dollar hoarding and absorb excess liquidity, BoG gold coins help strengthen the cedi. They also offer individuals a way to preserve wealth, while rising demand supports broader macroeconomic stability.
As of Monday, December 15, 2025, the BoG updated its gold coin prices, reflecting the increasing value of gold locally and internationally.
Here is how much BoG gold coins are selling on December 11
• The 0.25 oz coin is now selling at GH¢13,435.21.
• The 0.50 oz coin is priced at GH¢26,116.86.
• The 1.00 oz coin is selling for GH¢51,527.00.
The Ghana gold coin is available in three denominations: one-ounce, half-ounce, and quarter-ounce, and can be purchased through commercial banks.
Former escort, Clayton Howard continues to pursue his lawsuit for sex trafficking against the infamous former couple Cassie Ventura and Sean “Diddy” Combs. His allegations relate more to the former due to his accusations that she was a participant in these crimes, not just a victim.
According to a report by AllHipHop from Grouchy Greg Watkins, Howard’s latest filing in Manhattan federal court accuses federal prosecutors of using his story to arrest Combs, denying him victim rights, and protecting Ventura despite his attempts to verbalize allegations of her participation in court.
More specifically, he’s taking aim at former Assistant U.S. Attorney Maurene Comey. She’s the daughter of former FBI director James Comey, and United States president Donald Trump fired her this July.
For those unaware, Clayton Howard’s lawsuit against Cassie is moving forward after a judge approved service through alternative means. Also, she hired legal representation, so the parts are moving slowly but surely.
Back to this most recent update, the former sex worker claimed prosecutors only used his story to convict Puff for prostitute transportation across state lines. Also, he claims that attorneys denied him his rights under the Crime Victims’ Rights Act and silenced his allegations against Ventura.
“Assistant Prosecutor Maurene Comey became annoyed when I said I wanted to tell the truth about both of my offenders,” Howard reportedly alleged. “She said I was too traumatized to testify, which I denied. […] I have been patient and persistent. The government used my cooperation when it served their interest, but now treats me as if I do not exist. […] All I want is fairness, dignity, and the same respect given to every other victim.”
In addition to detailing Diddy and Cassie’s alleged mistreatment of him, Clayton Howard also specified the rights that federal prosecutors allegedly denied him. He reportedly sent three unanswered letters about this matter, went to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Manhattan, and failed to get a follow-up from a victim-witness advocate.
Also, Howard claims that Assistant U.S. Attorney Emily Johnson eventually responded to him, but allegedly denied his victim status. When he discovered that the government’s sentencing memo listed him as a victim, he tried to prove his eligibility in order to receive funds from the Backpage Remission Program, which distributes money to trafficking victims.
Ghana drew 2-2 against Germany in the 2014 World Cup
The Black Stars’ 2-2 draw against Germany at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil was named by FIFA as the game of the tournament.
In their first friendly meeting in Bochum in 1993, Germany won 6–1. They met again at two World Cups: losing 1-0 in 2010 in South Africa and drawing 2-2 in Brazil 2014.
Ghana to face Germany in pre-World Cup friendly
With an 8:45 pm kickoff scheduled for Monday, March 30, 2026, Die Mannschaft will once again face the Black Stars in an international friendly in Stuttgart.
This article highlights how Ghana matched up against Germany in the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Read the article as originally published by GhanaWeb on June 21, 2014 and the match highlights below:
Ghana have faint hopes of progressing to the last 16 of the World Cup after surrendering a lead to draw 2-2 with Germany in Fortaleza on Saturday night.
The 2010 quarter-finalists must now win their final match against Portugal and hope other results go their way to cruise to the knockout round.
The Black Stars supplied a positive response than what Portugal put up which allowed Die Mannschaft a handsome 4-0 win.
Kwesi Appiah made three changes to the team which lost 2-1 to USA in their opener and his approach was effective.
They matched the Europeans in every department and had shots on target from Christian Atsu and Sulley Muntari saved by goalkeeper Manuel Neur.
Ghana were the first to fire the warning shot early on in the match but when the ball fell to captain Asamoah Gyan, he squandered that glorious scoring opportunity.
Both sides served delicious football but could not find the back of the net at the interval.
After the break, Germany shot ahead through Mario Gotze- his first World Cup goal-after his header on a Thomas Muller cross fortuitously struck his knee to beat Fatau Dauda.
John Boye mis-timed his defensive header and right-back was late in closing down Gotze.
But it took three minutes for the Black Stars to respond through Andre Ayew who out-jumped his marker to head home superbly.
The goal re-invigorated the West Africans and mounted a search for the lead with some delicate passing game.
Captain Gyan then put Ghana ahead by finishing a great run into the area and powerfully shot home for his fourth World Cup and joined the league of scorers in three consecutive World Cup appearances.
Germany equalized as substitute Miroslav Klose poked home a corner-kick which was flicked by Howedes.
It was a World Cup record equaling 15th goal for the Lazio forward as he is now tied with Brazil legend Ronaldo.
For Ghana to qualify, Portugal must beat USA on Sunday and Ghana win against Portugal in the final Group G match with Germany aiding their course by beating USA.
The Forestry Commission (FC) has arrested 11 suspected illegal miners, comprising eight Ghanaians and three Chinese nationals, in a joint anti-galamsey operation conducted at dawn on Sunday, December 14, 2025.
The operation was carried out by a 28-member team drawn from three Rapid Response Teams, with support from officers of the Oda Forest District of the Forest Services Division.
The Commission said the arrests were made in Compartment 70 of the Pra Anum Forest Reserve at Banka, within the Oda Forest District of the Eastern Region.
The eight Ghanaian suspects were identified as Mohammed Mustapha, 25; Aminu Moro, 48; Owusu Emmanuel, 28; Raymond Opoku Agyemang, 32; Teye Joseph, 32; Oduro Emmanuel, 29; Aaron Oppong Gyebi, 36; and Isaac Apana, 32.
The three Chinese nationals arrested are Jun Hunay, 42; Wen Yong Feng, 49; and Lu Zheng Zhan, 37.
According to the Forestry Commission, all 11 suspects have been handed over to the Asante Akim Juaso District Police Command to assist with investigations and possible prosecution.
The operation also led to the seizure of two pickup vehicles, a Toyota with registration number GW 4974-23 and a Great Wall vehicle with registration number GT 4189-25, as well as eight excavators and one automatic pump-action gun.
The Commission said the seized vehicles have been sent to the Oda Forest District Office for safekeeping, while it reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying efforts to curb illegal mining activities in forest reserves across the country.
The Koforidua High Court 2 has sentenced Atiwa East Municipal Chief Executive, Ernest Ntim, to eight days in jail for contempt over his involvement in illegal mining activities on protected land in the Eastern Region.
The court found Ntim and members of his team guilty of destroying farmlands, polluting the Koben River, and contaminating a key water source relied on by several communities.
The ruling was delivered on Monday, December 15, following multiple adjournments. The court held that the illegal mining operations caused extensive environmental damage and posed a serious threat to local livelihoods.
Ntim was cited for contempt of court after he allegedly continued engaging in galamsey activities despite an existing injunction application before the court.
The judgment underscores the judiciary’s firm stance against illegal mining and environmental degradation, particularly involving public officials.
The Koforidua High Court 2 has fined the Atiwa East Municipal Chief Executive, Ernest Ntim, GHC15,000 after finding him in contempt of court over his involvement in illegal mining activities on protected land in the Eastern Region.
The fine followed an initial ruling that sentenced Ntim to eight days in jail, a decision the court later reviewed and varied on Monday, December 15, after considering submissions from his lawyers.
In its judgment, the court held that Ntim and members of his team were responsible for the destruction of farmlands, the pollution of the Koben River, and the contamination of a key water source serving several communities.
The illegal mining operations were found to have caused extensive environmental damage and threatened the livelihoods of residents.
Ntim was cited for contempt after he allegedly continued engaging in galamsey activities despite an injunction application pending before the court.
The court stressed that the decision to impose a fine rather than enforce the custodial sentence did not diminish the seriousness of the offence, noting that the ruling sends a strong warning against illegal mining and environmental degradation, especially when public officials are involved.

The relaunch took place at the bank’s Head Office in Accra on December 11, 2025
Access Bank Ghana introduces faster, digitised ‘Pick Now Pay Later’ product
Access Bank Ghana Plc has officially introduced a fully digitised version of its ‘Pick Now Pay Later’ (PNPL) product, a move designed to make short-term financing faster, easier and more accessible for salaried workers.
The relaunch took place at the bank’s Head Office in Accra on December 11, 2025, and represents a major upgrade from the product’s earlier manual process.
Speaking at the launch, the Head of Distribution, Accra East and Product Capabilities at Access Bank Ghana, Michael Gyabaah, said the revamped PNPL underscores the bank’s commitment to delivering customer-centric financial solutions that respond to real and immediate needs.
According to him, although the manual PNPL had been effective in the past, it could no longer meet the demands of today’s fast-paced digital banking environment.
“People now need speed, clarity and convenience. With this relaunch, approval processes that previously took a day or two now take just minutes,” he said.
The new digital PNPL allows customers whose salaries are paid through Access Bank to complete the entire credit process remotely, from eligibility checks and product selection to vendor confirmation, all via their mobile phones without paperwork or branch visits.
Explaining the simplified customer journey, Gyabaah said the platform enables users to browse partner shops, select products, verify their identity using one-time passwords (OTP), and confirm delivery instantly.
“This product is designed to give customers access to the things they need without the long wait. I encourage those yet to route their salaries through Access Bank to do so to enjoy the facility,” he added.
He further noted that the bank has partnered with a wide range of trusted vendors, including Ashfoam, Get4Less, Electromart, Electroland, Top Records, West Africa Hardware and Decor, Optima Solar and Franco Trading, among others.
These partnerships give customers access to home appliances, electronics, furniture, building materials and other essential items.
Gyabaah stressed that the relaunch goes beyond technology and reflects the bank’s broader social commitment.
“Today’s launch represents progress rooted in empathy and innovation grounded in real life. It is about improving the everyday experience of our customers,” he said.
One of the standout features of the new PNPL is a six-month zero-interest offer, which Gyabaah said is intended to ease financial pressures during and beyond the festive season.
“Whatever you pick, you pay exactly the shop price with no interest for six months,” he noted.
Participants at the launch were taken through a live demonstration of the sign-up and purchase process. Customers are required to provide a Ghana Card or Non-Citizen ID, select their institution, and authenticate transactions via their phones. Once a vendor validates the order and uploads an invoice, customers confirm delivery and the loan is automatically booked on the platform.
Also speaking at the event, the Chief Operating Officer of Access Bank Ghana, Ugochi Okoro, said the new PNPL platform is about more than digital convenience.
“In truth, today is not just about unveiling a platform. It is about honouring the people who rely on us, the workers who show up every day, the families carrying responsibilities that never go away,” she said.
She explained that the enhanced service is designed to support customers at moments when essential purchases cannot be delayed and financial assistance must be quick and stress-free.
Okoro added that the six-month zero-interest offer reflects the bank’s commitment to ethical and transparent banking.
“More transparent, more dependable and more humane,” she said.
She also assured customers of the platform’s security, noting that strong authentication measures have been integrated to protect users from fraud.

Despite a moderation in Nigeria’s national headline inflation following the rebasing of the Consumer Price Index, the cost of living remained high in several states in November 2025, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
State-level data show that inflation pressures varied widely, driven by differences in food supply, urbanisation, transport costs, insecurity, and exposure to oil-driven price shocks.
Based on the November 2025 CPI report, the 10 most expensive states to live in are
Kwara (15.9%) Kwara recorded an all-items inflation rate of 15.9% year on year, making it the least expensive state among the top 10 in November 2025.
Food inflation stood at 13.4% YoY, notably lower than the headline rate. On a month-on-month basis, food prices declined by 2.3%, while all-items inflation edged up marginally by 0.1%.
This divergence suggests that food prices were not the main inflation driver during the month, with non-food components such as transport, housing, and services likely exerting mild upward pressure.
Jigawa (16.0%) Jigawa recorded 16.0% all-items inflation YoY, with food inflation at 12.2%, indicating that non-food items played a larger role in driving the cost of living.
Month-on-month data showed renewed pressure, with food inflation rising by 3.1% and all-items inflation increasing by 2.8%.
While food prices accelerated in November, the lower annual food inflation relative to headline inflation suggests that transport costs, clothing, housing, and services contributed more significantly to Jigawa’s overall inflation profile.
Niger (16.2%) Niger State posted 16.2% all-items inflation YoY, while food inflation was significantly lower at 10.1%, one of the weakest food inflation rates among the top 10 states.
However, November saw a sharp month-on-month acceleration, with food prices rising by 3.1% and all-items inflation jumping 3.9%.
This indicates that while annual food inflation remained subdued, short-term supply disruptions and rising transport costs likely pushed prices higher during the month.
Benue (16.3%) Benue recorded 16.3% all-items inflation YoY, with food inflation at 13.1%.
While food inflation remained below the headline rate on an annual basis, the month-on-month picture tells a different story.
Food inflation surged by 4.4% MoM, compared with a 2.2% rise in all-items inflation.
This indicates that food prices were the dominant inflation driver in November, despite Benue’s reputation as Nigeria’s food basket.
Osun (16.4%) Osun recorded 16.4% all-items inflation YoY, with food inflation at 14.4%.
In contrast to many other states, both food and all-items inflation declined on a month-on-month basis, falling by 0.8% and 0.1% respectively.
This suggests broad-based easing in price pressures during November.
However, food inflation remained close to the headline rate every year, indicating that while short-term relief emerged, food costs still account for a substantial share of household inflation in the state.
Kogi (16.5%) Kogi recorded 16.5% all-items inflation YoY, but stood out for its very high food inflation of 17.8%, the highest among the top 10 states.
Month-on-month, food inflation rose by 1.8%, slightly faster than the 1.5% increase in all-items inflation. This confirms that food prices are the primary driver of inflation in Kogi.
Bayelsa (16.7%) Bayelsa recorded 16.7% all-items inflation YoY, with food inflation at 13.7%, significantly lower than the headline rate.
In November, food prices declined by 1.7% MoM, while all-items inflation surged by 6.6%, the highest monthly increase recorded among all states. This stark contrast shows that non-food inflation drove Bayelsa’s cost-of-living pressures.
Ekiti: (16.8%) Ekiti posted 16.8% all-items inflation YoY, with food inflation at 14.3%. Both food and all-items inflation declined month on month, falling by 1.8% and 0.5% respectively.
This suggests easing price pressures across the board in November.
However, the gap between food and headline inflation every year indicates that non-food items such as housing, education, and transportation remain key cost drivers, even as food prices soften temporarily.
Ogun (17.6%) Ogun recorded 17.6% all-items inflation YoY, with food inflation at 16.5%.
Food prices fell by 1.8% MoM, yet all-items inflation still rose by 1.4%, pointing to strong non-food inflation pressures.
Ogun’s proximity to Lagos continues to expose residents to urban spillover effects, including higher rents, transport fares, and service costs.
Despite easing food prices in November, the broader cost structure keeps Ogun among the most expensive states to live in.
Rivers (17.8%) Rivers emerged as the most expensive state to live in Nigeria in November 2025, with 17.8% all-items inflation, the highest in the country.
Food inflation stood at 16.1%. Month-on-month, food prices rose by 1.8%, while all-items inflation increased sharply by 3.4%, indicating that both food and non-food prices contributed significantly, with non-food costs rising faster.

Kpandai rerun: NPP must remain united to secure victory – Mussa Dankwah
New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has promised to take a firm stand against any attempts to rig the party’s upcoming presidential primaries, asserting that delegates now have the power to make independent choices.
According to Mr Agyapong, party delegates have recognised him as the candidate most capable of winning power for the NPP.
“When you listen to what Ghanaians are saying, they are speaking directly to the delegates. By the look of things, this time there will be change,” he stated.
He recalled the era when the NPP was in government, noting that intimidation was widespread.
“Those involved were government favourites, and they intimidated people. They used security agencies National Security, the police, the military, the Electoral Commission as well as ministers, CEOs, MCEs and DCEs. Everybody was part of it to ensure that one particular person won,” he said.
However, in an interview on Accra-based United Television, Mr Agyapong argued that the current political environment is markedly different.
“This time, that is not the case. The intimidation is not there. The President is not there, the Vice-President is not there, ministers are not there, CEOs are not there, MCEs are not there, and they do not have control over the police, National Security or the military,” he explained.
He warned that while the tables may turn in favour of a fair contest, he would remain vigilant to ensure the integrity of the primaries.
“I will guard against rigging, because the only alternative for them will be rigging. On that note, I want to assure them that it will not work,” he asserted.

President John Dramani Mahama has described the chieftaincy title conferred on him in Nigeria as a symbol of the deep historical and cultural ties between Ghanaians and Nigerians, saying the honour will strengthen relations between the two countries.
He made the remarks after being installed as Aare Atayeto Oodua of the Source by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, at a ceremony at the Ooni’s palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Monday, December 15.
Speaking at the event, President Mahama said he received the title with humility, noting the long-standing relationship between the peoples of Ghana and Nigeria.
“I don’t take this honour lightly. I know that there is a historic bond between the people of Ghana and the people of Nigeria. When Nigeria prospers, Ghana prospers. When Ghana prospers, Nigeria prospers,” he said.
He likened the two nations to twins bound by a shared destiny, while lightheartedly referencing their friendly rivalry over football and the jollof rice debate.
“God brought the two of us together. We are like twins of the same mother, except when we are playing football and when we are cooking jollof,” he added.
President Mahama emphasised that the chieftaincy title was not a personal accolade but one he accepted on behalf of all Ghanaians.
“This chieftaincy title, I receive it on behalf of all the people of Ghana. It will further cement the relationship between us,” he said.
The Aare Atayeto Oodua of the Source title, which translates as “a president who helps reorganise the world for the good of humanity,” recognises President Mahama’s leadership and his advocacy for fairness, cooperation, and unity among nations.
The ceremony was attended by traditional rulers, government officials, and community members, underscoring the strong cultural ties between Ghana and Nigeria, particularly among the Yoruba people, for whom Ile-Ife is regarded as their ancestral home.
President Mahama has consistently highlighted the importance of regional and global cooperation in addressing challenges such as climate change, economic inequality, and development, earning him recognition beyond Ghana’s borders.
This is not the first Nigerian honour for Mahama; in 2015, he was bestowed the title Aare Atolase of Offa by the Offa Kingdom in Kwara State. The latest accolade is expected to further deepen the diplomatic and cultural relationship between Ghana and Nigeria.

The Koforidua High Court 2 has fined the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Atiwa East in the Eastern Region, Ernest Ntim, GH₵12,000 for contempt of court in an ongoing illegal mining (galamsey) case.
The contempt application was filed in May 2025 by a miner who is in a dispute with the DCE over a parcel of land where mining activities were taking place.
According to the applicant, although the court had restrained both parties from entering the disputed land, the DCE allegedly went onto the land, prompting the contempt proceedings.
Background
The injunction application sought to restrain the DCE and other persons from entering the land, which is the subject of a substantive suit pending before the court. It further barred them from grading or removing soil, digging pits or ditches, engaging in any form of mining activity, or dealing with the land in any manner whatsoever.
Despite the matter being sub judice, the applicant alleges that the DCE, his brothers, and another person—described in the application as illegal miners within the Atiwa East District—re-entered the land and continued galamsey operations.
Court documents state that on May 2, 2025, one of the DCE’s brothers, was confronted at the site and reportedly claimed that “his brother (now DCE) had been nominated for the position of DCE for Atiwa East, and on his confirmation, no one, not even the courts could interfere with their activities, and further that even judges will become the subordinates of the DCE.”
The affidavit in support of the application argues that the conduct of the DCE and the other respondents was willful and deliberate, constituting contempt of court and an interference with the administration of justice intended to undermine the authority of the court.
According to the applicant, a complaint was lodged with the Eastern South Regional Police Command at Kyebi on May 2, 2025, while the matter was still pending before the court. The police subsequently effected arrests at the galamsey site.
The application further alleges that after the arrests, the DCE confronted the applicant, stating that those arrested were his workers and warning that if the complaint was not withdrawn and he was later confirmed as DCE, he would change the ownership of the land and claim it as his own.
The applicant also alleges that the DCE confirmed his brother’s assertion that “even the judges would become his subordinates” upon his confirmation, and advised the applicant to allow him to mine quietly.
After several adjournments, the court delivered its ruling on Monday, December 15, finding the DCE in contempt and imposing a fine of GH₵12,000.
The substantive land and mining case remains pending before the court, with hearings expected to continue.

PSG forward, Ousmane Dembélé is expected to be crowned as the FIFA Best Men’s Player of 2025 ahead of the awards ceremony on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 in Doha.
The Paris Saint-Germain winger enters the event as the standout candidate following a season defined by team success and consistent performances at the highest level.
The French international’s position as frontrunner follows his Ballon d’Or triumph earlier in 2025. Unlike the Ballon d’Or, which is voted by journalists, FIFA’s Best award combines votes from national team coaches, captains and selected media representatives.
In the 2024/2025 season, Dembélé played a leading role under PSG head coach Luis Enrique as the club secured a historic treble.
Ghana to face Germany in pre-World Cup friendly
Dembélé made 55 appearances across all competitions, scoring 11 goals and providing 14 assists.
Other players, including Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and Brazil winger Raphinha, are also in contention for the award.

Several dozen people protested on Sunday in the Siberian city of Tomsk against Russia’s ban on U.S. children’s gaming platform Roblox, a rare show of public dissent as popular irritation over the ban gains some momentum.
In wartime Russia, censorship is extensive: Moscow blocks or restricts social media platforms such as Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and YouTube while distributing its own narrative through a network of social media and Russian media.
Russia’s communications watchdog Roskomnadzor said on December 3 it had blocked Roblox because it was “rife with inappropriate content that can negatively impact the spiritual and moral development of children.
In Tomsk, 2,900 km (1,800 miles) east of Moscow, several dozen people braved the snow to hold up hand-drawn placards reading “Hands off Roblox” and “Roblox is the victim of the digital Iron Curtain” in Vladimir Vysotsky Park, according to photographs provided by an organiser of the protest.
“Bans and blocks are all you are able to do,” read one placard. The photographs showed about 25 people standing in a circle in the snow, holding up placards.
In Russia, the ban on Roblox has triggered a debate over censorship, child safety in relation to technology and even the effectiveness of censorship in a digitalised world where children can bypass many bans in a few clicks.
Many Russians simply circumvent bans by using VPNs (Virtual Private Networks), though some young Russians have questioned the logic of a ban if it can be so easily bypassed, while others have questioned why there are so few Russian alternatives to the apps that the state has banned.
Some Russian parents and teachers have said they were concerned that Roblox allowed children to access sexual content and communicate with adults.
Roblox, headquartered in San Mateo, California, has been banned by several countries, including Iraq and Turkey, over concerns about predators exploiting the platform to abuse children.
The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment. When the Russian ban was introduced, Roblox said it has “a deep commitment to safety” and provides “rigorous built-in protections to help keep users safe”.
Russian officials say they need censorship to defend against a sophisticated “information war” unleashed by Western powers, and what they cast as decadent Western culture, which undermines “traditional” Russian values.
The Executive Secretary of the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC), Duncan Amoah, has urged the Bank of Ghana (BoG) to intervene urgently to stabilise the forex market following the recent crackdown on black market dealers.
He said the operation triggered sharp increases in exchange rates within hours, warning that fuel prices could rise if the situation is not corrected quickly.
Parliament has approved GH¢1.619 billion to finance the operations of the House and the Parliamentary Service for the 2026 fiscal year, but Members of Parliament (MPs) have raised strong objections, describing the allocation as insufficient to support effective legislative work.
The approved budget will cater for MPs’ and staff salaries and allowances, administrative goods and services, committee work, oversight activities, ICT systems and e-Parliament upgrades, as well as the upkeep of parliamentary infrastructure.
It will also fund research, documentation, constituency engagements and other logistical needs.
2026 Budget: ‘We hear a lot of promises but we don’t see them happen’ – Luigi Maclean
According to a report by graphic.com.gh on December 15, 2025, MPs from both sides of the House expressed concerns that the allocation falls far below Parliament’s actual operational requirements.
Debating the report of the Committee on Parliamentary Affairs on December 10, MPs cited enduring challenges such as the lack of constituency offices, inadequate working tools for oversight, and worsening conditions at the Job 600 complex.
Presenting the committee’s position, its leadership noted that Parliament’s original budget proposal of more than GH¢4.6 billion was reduced to GH¢1.619 billion, a cut they said has stalled critical projects, including the establishment of constituency consultancy offices and the refurbishment of essential facilities like elevators and washrooms.
They warned that persistent underfunding threatens Parliament’s efficiency and independence, urging the Ministry of Finance to explore a dedicated funding mechanism or consider supplementary allocations to meet Parliament’s needs.
The NPP MP for Ofoase-Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, argued that Parliament should receive a guaranteed share of national revenue, similar to statutory funds such as GETFund and the National Health Insurance Fund, to protect its oversight role.
Similarly, NPP MP for Walewale, Dr Abdul Kabiru Tiah Mahama, said Parliament operates largely at the discretion of the Executive, receiving only about 40 per cent of its budget requests.
He added that MPs often lack proper constituency offices and raised concerns about accessibility challenges within the parliamentary complex.
“Both the minister and his deputy are members of this House. They witness firsthand what MPs go through,” he lamented.
Offering a different perspective, the NDC MP for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo, said the funding gaps were the result of years of inadequate incremental increases by previous administrations and could not be resolved within a single budget cycle.
2026 National Budget diagnosed
He urged MPs to manage expectations while working towards steady improvements, expressing optimism that allocations would continue to rise under the current finance minister, who previously served in Parliament.
Responding on behalf of government, Deputy Minister of Finance and NDC MP for Asuogyaman, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, said the budget allocation reflected prevailing fiscal constraints and was applied fairly across all ministries and agencies.
He explained that the reduction of Parliament’s budget request was consistent with cuts made to other arms of government and noted that Parliament recorded the highest percentage increase over 45 per cent from 2025 to 2026.

The Minister of Works and Housing, Kenneth Adjei, has announced a major housing initiative aimed at transforming Ghana’s built environment sector.
According to the minister, the initiative seeks to integrate low-carbon designs into public construction projects.
Dubbed the Greenville District Housing Programme, the initiative is part of government efforts to align Ghana’s construction sector with its climate commitments under the Paris Agreement.
Speaking at the IFC-EDGE Designing for Greater Efficiency (DfGE) Programme Close-Out, Adjei said the project serves as a national blueprint for climate-resilient and resource-efficient housing. He added that it signals a decisive shift toward embedding sustainability into public housing delivery, rather than treating it as an optional add-on.

Ghanaian music producer, MOG Beatz, has announced the resolution of his long-standing copyright dispute with dancehall artiste Shatta Wale.
In a social media statement on December 11, 2025, MOG Beatz described the settlement as a significant step towards promoting respect for intellectual property and fairness in the music industry.
“The copyright infringement matter between Charles Nii Armah Mensah and myself has been completely resolved as of today, December 11, 2025,” MOG Beatz stated. He emphasised that the resolution highlights the music community’s commitment to protecting creative work and promoting mutual respect among artistes.
MOG Beatz expressed gratitude to his legal team, supporters, and mentors, including Mr. Seidu and Mr. Kojo Spio, for their guidance and encouragement throughout the process. He also thanked fans and colleagues who stood by him, recognising the importance of defending artistic rights.
The dispute began in August 2025, when MOG Beatz accused Shatta Wale of selling his music catalogue without compensating the producers involved. MOG Beatz had removed two of Shatta Wale’s albums, ‘The Reign’ and ‘Wondaboy’, from Apple , citing concerns over ownership and rights.
The producer maintained that his distinctive producer tag served as proof of his involvement in the tracks, and Apple had complied with his Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) takedown request. The resolution of the dispute brings closure to a case that has dominated industry conversations in recent months.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Nzema East in the Western Region, Herbert Kuah Dickson, has condemned the violent clash between the youth of Adelekezo and JAS Mining Company, which resulted in the death of a 13-year-old boy and the destruction of property.
In a release on Monday, December 15, the MCE expressed the Assembly’s commitment to fully investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, which occurred last weekend in the farming community near Axim. The clash also led to injuries and the burning of vehicles, excavators, and other valuable equipment belonging to the mining company.
Dickson condemned the actions of both parties involved and appealed to residents to remain calm while investigations are ongoing. He emphasised that the Municipal Assembly would not shield anyone found to have orchestrated or contributed to the violence that led to the fatal shooting.
According to the release, the Municipal Security Council, led by the MCE, had earlier engaged the community in September 2025 during a routine visit, during which some Chinese nationals were arrested by the MUSEC task force.
Subsequent interrogation by security operatives confirmed that JAS Mining Company possessed valid documents as a licenced large-scale mining concession, with approvals from the Minerals Commission and other regulatory bodies.
The Assembly noted that during his first engagement with the community on the day of the arrests, the MCE expressed dissatisfaction with local leaders for failing to report the company’s presence and activities during the earlier MUSEC visit.
Further investigations at the time revealed that although the company had the necessary documentation, it had not yet commenced operations.
Since the September arrests, the Assembly said it had been engaging the company to submit a roadmap outlining its operational plans, leading up to the recent incident. Investigations have now been intensified to determine the root cause of the clash and to resolve the tension between the company and the community.
The MCE assured residents that the Assembly would facilitate proper engagement between all parties to restore peace, harmony, and coexistence. He added that the Assembly would also ensure that responsibilities are determined and that expenses related to the loss of life and injuries are addressed if any party is found liable.
Dickson extended condolences to the bereaved family and wished those injured a speedy recovery. He assured the public that the Assembly would keep residents informed about the outcome of the investigations and the way forward regarding the company’s operations.
The statement follows ongoing investigations by the Western Regional Police Command into the fatal shooting, which police say began after a confrontation between local youth and private security personnel at the mining site. Authorities have since arrested five suspects and continue to urge the community to cooperate with efforts to ensure justice and restore calm in Adelekezo.

Pallbearers carrying Daddy Lumba’s body in a casket
AFTER SEVERAL months of legal tussle between the sharply divided family of the late Charles Kwadwo Fosu aka ‘Daddy Lumba’, the mortal remains of the late musician was finally interred on Saturday.
This was after a sea of mourners, including bereaved family members, government officials, politicians, musicians, music lovers, and staunch supporters of Daddy Lumba had paid their last respects to the music star at the Heroe’s Park, Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
Last Minute Drama
Meanwhile, there was drama on Friday when an Accra High Court placed an injunction on the funeral rites upon the request of one of the feuding factions of the family, only for the court to reverse its decision few hours later after the applicants had failed to pay GH¢ 2 million, ordered by the court.
Despite the last minute drama in the courtroom, patronage of the funeral rites was not adversely affected as initially feared. Determined mourners who were clad in mourning clothes, trooped to the venue to officially bid adieu to the multi-talented musician
Mourners
The mourners, who were seen in long queues, filed past the body, which was placed in a casket, to bid farewell to the music legend, whose music continues to entertain and serve as advice and motivation to millions of followers.
Present at the solemn ceremony included the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, business moguls, the clergy, chiefs, and other prominent people.
star, Nana Acheampong, whose friendship with the late Daddy Lumba span over three decades, was also present to pay his last respects to his longtime friend, who won many awards with his melodious music.
Akosua Serwaa Absent
Akosua Serwaa, one of the two women that a Kumasi High Court had earlier on ruled to have the right to perform the widowhood rites during Daddy Lumba’s funeral was absent. Priscilla Ofori aka ‘Odo Broni’, the other wife, was however present.
Odo Broni was seen crying as some of the mourners tried to console her. She was clearly down in spirit and devastated, especially, as she saw her longtime lover lying motionless in the casket.
The children of Daddy Lumba, both domiciling in the country and abroad, were present at the funeral united in grief despite rumours of division.
Abusuapanin Steals Show
In a related development, the head of Daddy Lumba’s family ‘Abusuapanin’, Kofi Owusu, who, amid legal battles, name callings and insults, stood his grounds to ensure that Daddy Lumba was buried on Saturday, December 13, 2025, became an instant hero during the funeral rites.
Clad in red cloth, Kofi Owusu was seen making some hand and mouth gestures, which were said to suggest that his detractors only talk but they can’t take any action. The crowd, who seemed to have fallen for his antics, were heard chanting “Abuasuapanin Tupac”.
The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has cautioned the public against the sharing of sexually explicit videos and photographs involving some Senior High School students, warning that anyone caught may face imprisonment for 5 years or more.
In a public notice on Monday, December 15, 2025, the Authority warned that the act constitutes a serious criminal offence under Ghana’s laws, explaining that Section 62 of the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038) prohibits the creation, possession and distribution of indecent images of children.
“The public is hereby reminded that it is a crime to share indecent videos and images of children as specified in the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038). Section 62 of the Act states that a person shall not take, produce, publish/stream, or possess an indecent image or photograph of a child in a computer system or on an electronic device such as a mobile phone”, the notice read.
According to the Authority, Section 62 of the Act clearly states that a person shall not take, produce, publish, stream or possess an indecent image or photograph of a child on a computer system or electronic device, including mobile phones.
The CSA cautioned that any individual, blogger or institution found circulating sexually explicit videos or photographs of children risks severe punishment under the law.
“Any person, blogger or institution who is found circulating sexually explicit videos or photographs of children is liable to a term of imprisonment of not less than 5 years and not more than 10 years,” the Authority warned.
The authority also urged members of the public who receive such content to immediately delete it and refrain from forwarding it to others, stressing that even sharing such material amounts to committing an offence.
It further called on the public to report individuals and bloggers involved in the circulation of the explicit content to the Authority’s cybersecurity and cybercrime incident reporting points of contact for prompt action.
Former Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has cautioned delegates against voting for political candidates who demean or disrespect women, warning that such conduct carries serious electoral consequences.
Her remarks were directed at New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, whom she accused of repeatedly launching public verbal attacks against women.
“If you are going to elect a candidate who opens his mouth to rain insults on women, how would women vote?” she questioned.
The former MP recounted her own experiences, alleging that she had been the target of sustained verbal abuse by Mr Agyapong.
“Didn’t you hear him raining insults on me in this country? Didn’t you hear Honourable Kennedy Agyapong raining insults on me? He said I am disrespectful, that I spent government funds, and that former President Akufo-Addo pampered me. He called me useless and said my father could not control me,” she said.
Ms Adwoa Safo warned that overlooking such behaviour could cost the party politically, particularly in future elections.
“So, if you do not listen and continue to vote carelessly, the NDC is waiting for you to elect him so they can refer him to his past record of insults, including those directed at me, a woman with whom he has two children. Imagine what he would do to you,” she added.

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Mohammed, has expressed concern over what he described as a growing pattern of reckless road use by some celebrities, content creators, and social media influencers, warning that such conduct poses serious danger to lives and undermines road safety efforts.
The warning followed a widely circulated video involving a popular TikTok streamer, Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, who was seen engaging in a live video stream while driving. The incident reportedly resulted in a road traffic crash.
Reacting to the development, Mohammed, in a statement signed by the corps spokesperson Olusegun Ogungbemide, on Monday, described the act as unlawful and dangerous, noting that it could have led to loss of lives.
He said the incident “serves as a grim reminder that fame does not confer immunity from the law, nor does it excuse dangerous behaviour on public roads.”
Mohammed stated that “live streaming, content creation, recording or engaging in any activity that distracts a driver while driving is a direct violation of established road traffic regulations and poses grave danger not only to the driver but to other innocent road users.”
He added that such actions undermine national efforts aimed at reducing road traffic crashes and fatalities.
As a result, he directed the Lagos State Sector Commander of the FRSC to begin prosecution processes against the individual involved.
According to him, the action would be for “reckless driving, use of phone while driving, and distracted driving, in accordance with extant traffic laws.”
The corps marshal also called on professional bodies and groups within the entertainment industry to take responsibility for the conduct of their members.
He urged Actors Guilds, entertainment associations, influencer networks, and content creator communities to rein in their members and promote responsible behaviour on Nigerian roads.
Mohammed noted that celebrities and influencers wield significant influence, particularly among young Nigerians, and warned that they “must be seen as ambassadors of safety, not symbols of recklessness.”
Warning of strict enforcement, the corps marshal said the FRSC “will not hesitate to apply the full weight of the law against any individual, celebrity or otherwise, found engaging in distracted or reckless driving.”
He stressed that “no social media content, online trend or momentary clout is worth a human life.”
He further reminded motorists that “public roads are not studios, stages or streaming platforms,” describing them as shared spaces governed by laws designed to preserve lives.
Mohammed encouraged Nigerians to report dangerous driving behaviours and support collective efforts to make roads safer.
The FRSC reaffirmed its commitment to safer highways, stating that road safety remains a shared responsibility that requires discipline, restraint, and respect for the law by all road users, without exception
President John Dramani Mahama has called on West African leaders to pursue dialogue and engagement with Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso, following their withdrawal from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Speaking on regional integration, President Mahama said the exit of the three countries, now operating as the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), should not lead to their isolation, stressing that cooperation remains essential to addressing the sub-region’s shared challenges.
“Our sub-region is facing challenges. Three of our members have decided to break away and form the AES,” he said, adding that the development should not deter ECOWAS from maintaining relations with the Sahel states.
President Mahama argued that the destinies of ECOWAS and the AES countries remain intertwined, making continued engagement vital. He urged regional leaders to focus on bridge-building rather than ostracism, noting that sustained dialogue could encourage the Sahel states to return to the ECOWAS fold.
“Instead of ostracising them, we must continue to build bridges between ECOWAS and our brothers in the Sahel,” he said, emphasising that West Africa’s geographic and historical ties impose a responsibility on leaders to work together for collective stability and development.
The President also expressed optimism about strengthening bilateral relations within the sub-region, particularly with Nigeria, saying closer cooperation would benefit the peoples of both countries.
President Mahama made the remarks after his installation as Aare Atayeto Oodua of the Source by the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Oba Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi, Ojaja II. The ceremony took place in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria, on Monday, December 15.
Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso formally exited ECOWAS earlier this year, citing political and security disagreements with the regional bloc, a move that has raised concerns about unity and stability in West Africa.

Sarah Adwoa Safo, a three-time Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya in the Greater Accra region, has called on delegates of her party to vote massively for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming presidential primary.
Speaking during a campaign tour in her constituency on Sunday, December 14, 2025, Adwoa Safo urged delegates to reject Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr. Bawumia’s main contender, citing his alleged disrespect towards women.
Adjei-Kojo (Tema West), Dec. 15, GNA – Officials of the Tema West Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with community leaders and residents, have organised a clean-up exercise at Adjei Kojo to improve sanitation and environmental hygiene in the area.
The exercise was led by the Tema West Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Ludwig Teye Totimeh; the Member of Parliament for Tema West, Mr James Enu; and the Assembly Member for Adjei Kojo, Ms Charity Dela Siameh.
Residents, community leaders and officials cleaned streets, markets and public spaces, collecting refuse and debris as part of efforts to promote a clean and healthy environment within the municipality.
Mr Totimeh told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the exercise formed part of broader efforts to improve sanitation and hygiene practices in the Tema West Municipality.
He urged residents to actively participate in the National Sanitation Day, which is held monthly, to ensure that their surroundings remained clean, stressing that sanitation exercises were not meant for officials alone but required the involvement of all residents.
He reminded residents of the Assembly’s sanitation bye-laws, adding that persons who refused to participate could be sanctioned.
Mr Enu, on his part, encouraged residents to take sanitation exercises seriously, noting that collective responsibility was key to maintaining a healthy community.
He said aside from sanitation issues, the Assembly was addressing other development challenges in the municipality, including the Tema Community Two market reconstruction project, the Adjei Kojo road network and the Adjei Kojo bridge.
The MP said all requirements for the Community Two market reconstruction project had been fulfilled and submitted to President John Dramani Mahama, adding that the project was awaiting structural clearance as part of the government’s vision to construct a modern market in every constituency.
Mr Enu further disclosed plans to roll out an employment initiative dubbed “My Job Centre,” which would enable young people to apply for jobs online.
Mr Isaac Danso, a resident, who participated in the exercise, pledged his support for efforts to maintain cleanliness in the community and appealed for the provision of refuse bins at various junctions to improve waste management.
Ms Siameh said she had engaged the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly and market queens from both Ashaiman and Adjei Kojo on addressing sanitation challenges at the under-bridge market, adding that she was yet to receive feedback.
She expressed hope that continued engagement would help promote cleanliness within the community.
Some residents acknowledged that poor sanitation and hygiene practices contributed significantly to the spread of diseases and called for sustained collaboration to keep the environment clean.

New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has accused former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of orchestrating controversial statements made by Bono Regional Chairman of the party, Kwame Baffoe, widely known as Abronye DC.
“He [Dr Mahamamudu Bawumia] is the one behind Abronye’s rants, and I just do not want to say anything,” Mr Agyapong declared.
Mr Agyapong also accused his rivals of seeking to manipulate party structures to their advantage.
“I do not have time for them, but that does not mean they have to rig the election. I believe in the structures, and I know all the Electoral Commission officials my opponents have engaged with. They plan to use the party’s internal security to humiliate anyone who comes close,” he said.
Mr Agyapong said, “I do not have time for Dr Bawumia. In my life, he does not exist, because if he existed, I might commit a crime. That is how I see myself,” he remarked, signalling the personal and political distance he maintains from Dr Bawumia.
Recounting a past incident at the residence of former President Nana Akufo-Addo, Mr Agyapong insisted that the events were misrepresented on social media.
“Some time ago, something happened at the residence of former President Akufo-Addo. I mentioned a certain man’s name; there was nobody there when I left. The next day, it was posted on social media, but I do not have anything against anybody,” he explained.
In an interview with Accra-based United Television, Mr Agyapong also expressed disappointment over what he perceives as a lack of recognition for his campaign efforts during the recent elections.
“Did I not campaign for him during the recent election? After that, did he even call me to appreciate my efforts? His followers were even insulting me. The only loyal person from his camp was NAPO. I took him to my warehouse and gave out items freely. He had young boys who claimed that I never campaigned,” he said.

President John Dramani Mahama has described the honour bestowed on him by the Ooni of Ife as deeply meaningful, highlighting its symbolic value for the historic ties between Ghana and Nigeria.
President Mahama made the remarks after he was installed as Aare Atayeto Oodua of the Source by the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Oba Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, at a colourful ceremony held in Ile-Ife in Nigeria’s Osun State on Monday, December 15, 2025.
The prestigious Yoruba chieftaincy title, which translates as “A President who reorganises the global space for humanity,” was conferred in recognition of President Mahama’s leadership qualities and his advocacy for global cooperation, equity and sustainable development.
In his acceptance speech, President Mahama expressed gratitude to the Ooni of Ife, recounting how the traditional ruler maintained a close relationship with him even during his time in opposition.
“After I lost the election in 2020, I became nobody to many people. Through my sister, he kept asking when I was going to come. I was impressed because I was nobody and in opposition at the time, yet his insistence that I come to visit him moved me,” President Mahama said.
He recalled that when he eventually visited Ile-Ife, he was warmly received by the Ooni, who later gave him words of encouragement.
“One day, I picked a date and came, and he received me so warmly. After the visit, he took me to all the secret places of the palace and then told me, ‘Go, and you will get your seat,” he said.
President Mahama noted that the prediction came to pass when he was elected President in 2024, describing the honour as one he holds in high esteem.
“I don’t take this honour lightly. I know that there is a historic bond between the people of Ghana and Nigeria. When Nigeria prospers, Ghana prospers, and when Ghana prospers, Nigeria prospers,” he added.
The installation ceremony drew traditional rulers, dignitaries and guests from across West Africa, underscoring the cultural and diplomatic significance of the honour.

The Herald, has gathered that former President Nana Akufo-Addo is deeply distressed by the growing controversy surrounding his cousin and former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, over matters arising from his nearly 8-year tenure at the Finance Ministry.
The ex-President is demanding a special passage when the man once regarded as a financial wizard arrives at Kotoka International Airport to confront his many skeletons.
According to sources, the former President wants Ofori-Atta, who has been in the US since February this year, on claims of a medical condition related to his kidney, to immediately return to Ghana to personally address the allegations, particularly those being pursued by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
Insiders say Akufo-Addo believes the ongoing allegations are tarnishing the family name and undermining the legacy of his administration and insists that his cousin should return home to face the law and prove his innocence.
Family sources further reveal that the former President has been shocked and even embarrassed by reports alleging procurement breaches, abuse of public office, and violations of procurement and criminal laws, potentially involving substantial sums of public funds and irregular state contracts.
Despite the controversy, the former President is seeking “a safe passage” for Ofori-Atta upon his return to Ghana from the United States, with no state action to publicly humiliate him by arresting and detaining him upon arrival at Kotoka International Airport.
Interestingly, The Herald understands that Ofori-Atta remains in frequent contact with family and close associates and continues to oversee his private business interests, including Enterprise Insurance, Transition Funeral Home, and Databank Financial Services, among others.
Sources close to the matter indicate that former President Akufo-Addo is considering approaching President John Dramani Mahama to seek assurances of the “safe passage” for Ofori-Atta.
However, Jubilee House insiders tell The Herald that although President Mahama has not yet been approached, he firmly believes the law must be allowed to take its full course and is therefore unwilling to enter into any arrangement with the former President regarding his cousin.
The President is opposed to granting the “safe passage” sought.
Additionally, some officials within the Mahama administration also hold the position that Ofori-Atta must first account for, and, where necessary, refund, any state funds allegedly acquired during his tenure before any discussions can be entertained about his return or the possibility of leniency.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor has alleged that Ofori-Atta was involved in an improper agreement between Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML) and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and has consequently initiated proceedings against him in absentia.
Last week, five persons, including an entity, who were arraigned over the alleged Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) scandal, were granted bail by an Accra High Court.
The accused, Emmanuel Kofi Nti, 66, former Commissioner-General, Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA); Isaac Crentsil, 63, former Commissioner at GRA; Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, former Commissioner-General of GRA; and Evans Adusei, Chief Executive Officer of SML, were each granted bail in the sum of GH¢50 million with two sureties to be justified.
Justice Francis Aponga Achibonga ordered that they deposit their passports or any international travel documents at the Court Registry. They are also required to report to the lead investigator at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) weekly.
However, the Court suspended enforcement of the new bail terms until December 15, 2025, and directed the accused to remain on their existing OSP bail conditions until that date.
The accused persons face multiple charges, including Conspiracy to commit criminal offences of directly or indirectly influencing the procurement process to obtain an unfair advantage.
Directly influencing procurement processes and causing financial loss to the State. Using public office for profit, Willful oppression, false certificate by a public officer, and entering into an agreement with financial commitments binding the State for more than one financial year without prior parliamentary approval. All accused persons pleaded not guilty.
The case was adjourned to December 17, 2025, when the Court is expected to take the plea of Kwadwo Damoah, Member of Parliament for Jaman South and former Commissioner of the Customs Division of GRA, who was absent when the matter was called.
His lawyer, who was present, was instructed to notify him of the next court date. Three other accused persons, Kenneth Ofori-Atta, 66, former Minister of Finance; Ernest Darko Akoree, 67, Chief de Cabinet to Ofori-Atta; and Mr Damoah, were also absent.
The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, informed the Court that intelligence indicated that Ofori-Atta and Akoree were currently in the United States of America and that the OSP had initiated extradition proceedings against them.
Defence counsel for the accused persons took turns to request bail, arguing that their clients had complied with all previous OSP bail conditions and had no intention of absconding.
The facts presented by the Special Prosecutor were that the accused persons conspired to establish and operate a criminal enterprise from 2017 to influence the procurement process in favour of SML.
This was in the award of contracts for transaction audit services, external price verification, downstream petroleum measurement audit, upstream petroleum audit and mineral audit services.
He said the arrangement was characterised by a lack of genuine need for SML’s services, and that the contracts were secured through “self-serving patronage, sponsorship and promotion” by Ofori-Atta, Akoree, Nti, Owusu-Amoah, Crentsil and Damoah, based on false and unverified claims.
The SP noted that the accused persons disregarded mandatory statutory approvals by Parliament and the Board of the Public Procurement Authority, acting with “emboldened impunity” as they allegedly abused their public offices for private benefit.
He said they also failed to establish effective financial management systems to monitor SML’s work, resulting in significant financial losses to the State.
Payment channels to SML were allegedly set to “automatic mode” and disconnected from actual performance.
According to the SP, the Republic lost about One billion, four hundred and thirty-six million, two hundred and forty-nine thousand, eight hundred and twenty-eight point six three Ghana cedi (GH¢1,436,249,828.63) through the arrangement.
Investigations by the OSP were triggered by petitions received in December 2023 and were conducted between December 20, 2023, and October 3, 2025.
Following preliminary findings, the Government suspended SML’s services in January 2024.
A presidential directive issued on October 31, 2025, subsequently terminated all contracts awarded to SML by the Ministry of Finance and the GRA. The accused persons, the SP added, had also intended to commit the State to a further payment of US$2,799,604,864.71 over five years without the mandatory authorisation of Parliament.
Earlier reports alleged that procurement processes were manipulated to give SML an unfair advantage, including false representations that it had exclusive and legitimate capacity/technology.
The contracts were single-source (no competitive bidding) and lacked statutory approval, raising questions of abuse of public office and breach of procurement laws.
OSP has charged Ofori-Atta with conspiracy to “directly or indirectly influence the procurement process to obtain an unfair advantage in the award of a procurement contract.” This violates provisions of the Criminal Offences Act and the Public Procurement Act.
The case against him includes 78 counts insofar as the SML-GRA scandal is concerned.
Prosecutors say that payments totalling over GH¢1 billion (by some accounts) were authorised to SML without evidence that the company did any work. The claim is that the payment arrangement was automatic and not tied to any measurable deliverables.
The OSP also listed additional controversial cases under investigation, including the termination of a contract between the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Beijing Xiao Cheng Technology (BXC) for a power network improvement project.
Procurement and spending are linked to the National Cathedral Project. A large contract was awarded to Service Ghana Auto Group Limited to purchase and maintain 307 ambulances for the National Ambulance Service under the Ministry of Health. The OSP flags this as potentially involving inflated costs, irregular procurement procedures, and improper utilisation/payment from the GRA’s Tax Refund (or “Tax P-Fund”) account.
OSP declared Ofori-Atta “wanted” and a “fugitive from justice” after he failed to return to the jurisdiction to respond to charges.
They argue that a simple “medical letter” submitted on his behalf did not constitute valid grounds to avoid personal attendance.
The OSP later filed formal charges, including “conspiracy to influence procurement process”, and is proceeding under the criminal justice system.
