Ghanaian singer Kuami Eugene has once again taken a swipe at music duo DopeNation.
In an interview with Hitz FM, shared on Instagram on July 2, 2025, Kuami Eugene claimed that DopeNation expected to be spoon-fed during their time at Lynx Entertainment.
He explained that the music group left the label because they couldn’t keep up with the hard work required of them.
“I am just having fun. They thought that after signing with Lynx Entertainment, we were going to do everything for them, including putting food into their mouths.
“But when they realised they had to work harder, that was when they quit,” he said.
Kuami Eugene also recalled a past statement in which he remarked that DopeNation’s exit from Lynx Entertainment would ultimately benefit him.
According to him, he was only joking and made the comments in a lighthearted manner.
“When they left, they forgot that food meant for four people would now be given to two people. I was just having fun, and they know that.
“But because they were new to the record label, they didn’t know that is how I am,” he added.

The suspects were arrested with pump-action guns and huge amount of money
In a significant move against illicit gold trafficking, the GoldBod Taskforce arrested ten Chinese nationals in Asankragua, Western Region, just 48 hours after the government declared a nationwide prohibition on foreign participation in the local gold sector.
The accused were allegedly involved in illegal gold dealings at a private apartment when they were apprehended.
Based on reliable information from informants, the operation also resulted in the recovery of a pump-action gun, a large number of suspected money-laundering casino cards, 1.3 kg of gold valued at almost GH₵1.4 million, and more than GH₵1.3 million in cash.
GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi, speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, June 2, 2025, confirmed that the arrested individuals would not be deported but would face full prosecution in accordance with Ghana’s laws.
“We mean business, and this time around, you cannot engage in illegal gold trading and gold smuggling and go scot-free,” he said.
According to Mr Gyamfi, the task force’s prompt action makes it abundantly evident to unlawful operators, particularly foreigners, that Ghana is acting decisively to clean up the gold business and implement its new rule that forbids foreigners from purchasing or selling gold in Ghana.
“The grace period is over and we have given countless warnings upon warnings. And so when you are arrested now, there will not be anything like deportation,” he said.
The CEO of GoldBod added that he has given the investigators instructions to use the evidence provided by the field workers to create a strong case.
“By tomorrow, they will be arraigned before court, we will be praying the court remands them into custody for further investigations and it is our hope that we will get a favourable outcome,” he added.
ECG uncovers illegal connection at Rehoboth Estate in Kweiman
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has clarified the circumstances surrounding the recent disconnection exercise at the Rehoboth Kweiman Estate.
According to ECG, the company, on June 16, 2025, conducted an operation at the estate and uncovered 83 instances of illegal connections, including within the estate’s administrative office.
As a result, power was disconnected from the entire estate, which consists of approximately 400 apartments.
The management of Rehoboth was subsequently summoned to ECG’s Accra East Regional Office at Makola to discuss the situation and the applicable surcharges.
In a rejoinder issued on July 2, 2025, ECG explained, “It is important to note that we have only restored power to a select few apartments that have valid meters and have not engaged in any illegal connections based on our inspection.”
The company added that some customers who were inadvertently affected by the disconnection exercise have since had their electricity reconnected.
“The 83 instances of power theft, including the administration block of Rehoboth, remain disconnected and will continue to be until the estate’s management complies with service connection protocols, including the proper meter application process,” ECG stated.
ECG also addressed claims by Rehoboth that a meter shortage in 2023 contributed to the situation.
The company clarified that there was no meter shortage that year, adding that, records show Rehoboth applied for meters on July 4, 2023.
ECG emphasised that although invoices were issued, no payments were made that year. However, payment for 20 meters was made only on June 17, 2025, the day after the disconnection.
ECG further noted that on June 17, 2025, Rehoboth’s management acknowledged and signed a notice confirming that 83 apartments were directly connected without meters.
The power distribution company mentioned that each of these 83 units is required to pay GH¢19,247.40 as a recovery charge for illegal connections.
“A block factory on the estate was also found to have been using illegal power. It has been disconnected and is being dealt with separately,” ECG concluded.

Pius Enam Hadzide, spokesperson for the Bryan Acheampong campaign to seek endorsement as New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has stated that the flagbearer hopeful does not support the use of fake or procured endorsements from Members of Parliament (MPs) in the party’s internal race.
According to Mr. Hadzide, open endorsements often promote personal ambitions over the collective interests of the party and risk sowing division among members.
“Bryan Acheampong is deliberate about not creating division based on fake and procured endorsements. Open endorsements often occur, but they tend to serve personal interests rather than the collective interests of the party, which can lead to division. If someone has something to say, they should personally meet with the delegates instead of using national radio or TV to publicly declare support for someone.
“The delegates are smart; they understand that some people make open endorsements in pursuit of political appointments. The people want empowerment at the local level. If Bryan Acheampong had wanted open endorsements, he would have received many. Some individuals even call Bryan before making public endorsements, which leads us to believe that many of these endorsements are not genuine,” he said in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show.
Mr. Hadzide urged party leaders to refrain from public displays of bias and instead engage directly with delegates, warning that disunity could derail the NPP’s chances of victory in the 2028 elections.
“I personally wish that some of our leaders would refrain from openly displaying bias and instead engage directly with the delegates. This approach would help prevent mistrust or suspicion, which could lead to division and hinder our unity and victory. Ultimately, the person who wins the flagbearer position will not be able to accomplish the task alone; we will all need to work together,” he noted.
The NPP is set to hold its presidential primaries in January 2026.

The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has reported a notable improvement in revenue collection by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
According to him, the company has accrued 1.6 billion Ghana Cedis in the first half of 2025, against a projected target of 2.5 billion Ghana Cedis.
Responding to questions on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, July 2, John Jinapor described the development as a significant improvement.
“At the end of the month [June 2025], ECG was able to raise about GHC1.6 billion. Which is a remarkable improvement, even though the target ought to be GHC 2.5 billion. If you do a year-on-year comparison, this month [June] of 2025 as compared to the same month in 2024, there’s a remarkable improvement in terms of the revenue collection,” he said.
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition also announced plans to present a legislative instrument to Parliament aimed at introducing stricter punitive measures against individuals who illegally install electricity meters for consumers.
The Minister stated that although some offenders have already been arrested and prosecuted, the existing sanctions have not proven sufficiently deterrent.
He stressed the need for stronger penalties to curb the practice.

Comedian, I Go Save, has advised men not to use singer 2Face Idibia’s current situation as an excuse to be emotionally distant in a relationship.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly opposed the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to conduct a rerun of the parliamentary election in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency, describing the move as unjustified and lacking consensus.
In an interview following the EC’s July 2 press release, on Citi Eyewitness News, Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, Haruna Mohammed, said “Our representatives were at the meeting, and I have to put it on record that there was no such agreement with the EC.”
He added: “That is very evident in the release of the EC itself—that the political parties did not agree.”
The EC had explained that its decision to rerun the election in 19 out of 37 disputed polling stations was due to the lack of verification by Presiding Officers on scanned Pink Sheets used during collation. The physical pink sheets were reportedly destroyed when party supporters stormed the collation centre.
However, the NPP maintains that the remaining results—particularly from three polling stations—are all that is needed to complete the collation and declare a winner.
“We don’t know what the EC is up to. The NPP is not going to give up on this particular fight,” Mohammed said.
he continued: “We don’t know of any elections. The EC must conclude the collation on the three polling stations—this is still outstanding, and that is clear for us.”
The NPP further insisted that security must be provided to protect the collation process, rather than rerunning the vote in polling stations where results had already been accepted by party agents.
The party is expected to hold a press conference at 10 a.m. on Thursday, where the General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong will address the nation on the matter and outline the NPP’s official position.
Meanwhile, the EC has set the rerun for Friday, July 11, 2025, assuring the public of a transparent and peaceful process, with the Ghana Police Service on hand to ensure security.

The National Imam of Shia, Sheikh Abubakar Kamaldeen, has questioned President John Mahama for appointing 7 Supreme Court justices in 6 months after telling Ghanaians he would place a cap on nominations.
At the Muslim National Thanksgiving Day in Accra Tuesday, Sheikh Kamaldeen, right in front of President Mahama expressed concern over what he said was the increasing manipulation of the judiciary by politicians and referenced President Mahama’s contradiction in opposition and in government to buttress his point of judicial manipulation, which he said has increased the people’s lack of confidence in the judiciary.
”Barely one year ago, the NDC was advocating for a cap in the appointment of justices for the Supreme Court, only for our President to appoint seven of them just recently,” the Imam said.
”As a result, many people don’t have confidence in the judiciary because of the manipulation of the political parties.”
While calling out the double standards, the Imam called and prayed for an end to the manipulation of the judiciary by the executive.
“We therefore ask Allah to change the attitude of first the executive and the political parties to leave the judiciary alone. They must be independent, and they must be allowed to do their work without interference from the executives and the political parties.”

He maintained that the singer never addresses anything, not even his most serious scandals. According to Dotun, the singer is regressing and requires assistance, counselling, or a thorough assessment.

Oheneba Nkrabea, one of the two Rastafarian students at the centre of the high-profile Achimota School admission saga, has graduated from the Ghana International School (GIS), marking a significant milestone in his educational journey.
In 2021, Nkrabea and Tyron Marghuy were denied admission to Achimota School after refusing to cut their dreadlocks, which they maintained were an expression of their Rastafarian faith. The school’s directive sparked nationwide debate on religious freedom and the right to education. The matter was taken to court, and in a landmark ruling, an Accra High Court ordered the school to admit the students, affirming their constitutional rights.
While the legal battle continued—with Achimota School filing an appeal—Oheneba was awarded a scholarship to Ghana International School under the Article 17 Education Trust, a foundation established by alumnus William Hackman and four other parents, to support equality and access in education.
At the recent GIS graduation ceremony, the school’s CEO, Dr. Mary Asabea Ashun, hailed Oheneba’s success as a moment of pride and progress – “we have watched this young man grow, and we have been so privileged to be a part of his story here at GIS. The flooded road
A 38-year-old okada rider who tried to assist some women cross a flooded road in the Suaman District of the Western North Region has died in the process.
Paul Anika, popularly known as ‘Gayito’, met his untimely death when he drowned in a nearby galamsey pit which was full of water as he attempted to help market women cross the Kwasuo-Dadieso road, which got flooded after a downpour.
It took a search party several hours before they could retrieve the lifeless body of the deceased. The sad incident occurred at the weekend.
According to information gathered, the road got flooded because the Bia River in the area had overflown it banks as a result of illegal mining activities.
According to eyewitnesses, the deceased had successfully helped the market women to cross the road to the other side.
They said unfortunately, when he was returning to assist a lady to also cross the road, he fell into a galamsey pit which was closer to the road.
They lamented that illegal mining activities are currently ongoing at both sides of the road.
The eyewitnesses also claimed that illegal miners at Suaman Dadieso have blocked both the Bia River and Sui River at Juaboso, which led to the flooding of the Dadieso to Kwasuo road.
They alleged that illegal mining activities in the Western North Region have escalated since the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) government assumed office.
“We are appealing to the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources to dispatch a task force to the Western North Region to help deal with the menace.
“Because it seems there is no effort from the authorities here to fight illegal mining in the Western North Region,” they asserted.

Political Scientist and Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Asah-Asante, has delivered a striking critique of Ghana’s National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving observance on Tuesday, July 1, warning that without patriotism, accountability, and moral courage, the entire exercise risks becoming an empty ritual.
Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show, Dr. Asah-Asante did not mince words as he challenged both the political class and religious leaders to reflect on the true meaning of gratitude in a nation plagued by corruption, inefficiency, and misplaced priorities.
“There is nothing wrong with the national prayer,” he declared. “At some point, we must remember our Maker and give thanks, that is undeniable. But hear this: Gratitude without patriotism is hollow or empty. Thanks without dedication to work, without hard work, without discipline, without people who are truly results-driven, that kind of thanks is meaningless. And most importantly, thanks without holding our leaders accountable, without standing firm against corruption—I’m afraid that is a waste of everyone’s time.”
He acknowledged the aesthetic beauty of the event, but questioned the sincerity behind it, particularly when those offering prayers are the same individuals enabling or engaging in wrongdoing.
“Yesterday I saw the programme, beautiful programme. But see, let us be honest with ourselves, we go and pray for ourselves and all that, and the same people come and embezzle. They engage in corruption. We give cathedrals to men of God, and they leave us with a hole. What is the meaning of the prayer then?”
According to Dr. Asah-Asante, Ghana’s national challenges are not spiritual problems that can be solved by prayer alone. They are moral and institutional failures that demand truth-telling, especially from religious leaders.
“If we have leaders like this, and men of God cannot look our Heads of State in the eye and tell them, ‘You are going wrong’ when the need arises, then we have a serious problem. Too often, they merely watch and seek to glorify those in power. No more! The time for change is now. Men of God must stand firm and speak truth boldly, that is what sets them apart from you and me.”
He expressed deep frustration with what he described as a lack of seriousness and discipline at the national level, evident not only in governance but in Ghana’s overly generous public holiday calendar, which he believes stifles productivity.
“We cannot engage in national prayer when we have so many holidays, 14 holidays. Can you imagine? I’m not saying we don’t need holidays, but they are too many. Holidays such as Boxing Day, I believe, must be scrapped. Holidays like New Year’s Day, Constitutional Day must go. Nkrumah’s birthday? Once you mention Nkrumah, Independence Day already covers that. Nkrumah is in there.”
To make his point, he drew comparisons with more developed economies.
“Let us look at the United States—11 holidays. America. The UK—8 holidays. Canada—9. Germany—9. France—11. And interestingly, the Netherlands has only 2. One of those holidays is celebrated every 5 years. Switzerland—4. What are we doing to ourselves here?”
In Dr. Asah-Asante’s view, national prayer should not be a smokescreen for civic neglect or a performance to appease the public. Real gratitude, he said, is measured in one’s actions and commitment to nation-building.
“Prayer is good. But prayer without patriotism, without accountability, without integrity, without all the things I have mentioned is empty. Let us always remember to think of our country and defend it,” he counseled.

African Union High Representative for Silencing the Guns and Former Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the UN Office for West Africa and Sahel, His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Ibn Chambas, has urged the government to undertake a critical assessment of post-election violence.
According to Dr. Ibn Chambas, it is critical to ensure the effective and comprehensive implementation of laws against violence, most especially the Anti-Vigilantism and related offence Act 999 of 2019, to help improve democracy.
He called for the full operationalisation of the Affirmative Action Law before the 2028 general elections, and stressed the need for mitigating the production of counterfeit ballot papers by improving the security features of the ballot papers by the Electoral Commission.
Speaking during the Post 2024 Elections Evaluation Dialogue in Koforidua on July 2, Dr Ibn Chambas indicated that the current respective age requirement for contesting for the role of President should be lowered to pave the way for young persons who constitute a significant portion of the population.
“The government should ensure the effective and comprehensive implementation of laws against violence, especially the Anti-Vigilantism and related Offences Act 999 of 2019. The government should ensure that the Affirmative Action Law is fully operationalised, especially for the 2028 elections. It’s important we take a critical assessment of how we can stop post-election violence that consistently rears its head in every election.”

The Presidential Advisor on the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programmes, Mr. Augustus Goosie Tanoh, has expressed strong confidence in President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to restoring credibility and legitimacy to governance.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Point of View with Bernard Avle on Wednesday, July 2, Mr. Goosie Tanoh highlighted the President’s achievements within his first 120 days in office, describing them as a clear signal of renewed purpose and dedication to national transformation.
“I think that the social contract, the 120-day contract, and the fact that he has achieved all those milestones show a new, renewed determination and purpose.
“And that sets the landscape for what is to come, and so, in that sense, yes, I think he has demonstrated clearly that he means business, he also means to promote, protect and expand business,” he noted.
Mr. Tanoh clarified that the 24-Hour Economy goes beyond extended working hours, explaining that it represents a broader transformation in how the state interacts with citizens, businesses, and institutions.
“One of the interesting things is that the reset [agenda] is also about the state and the way the state relates to the citizenry, relates to businesses and other institutions. Because without an efficient and friendly state, investors will run away, and it will also become a barrier and a bar to progress and development,” he stated.
He also pointed to the President’s anti-corruption drive, highlighting the newly introduced Code of Conduct for public officials as a demonstration of the administration’s resolve to enhance transparency and accountability.
“Some of the anti-corruption things he has done, such as the Code of Conduct, are to lead the way that this our dispensation we mean business and we will do it,” he added.
Mr. Tanoh’s remarks follow the launch of the government’s flagship 24-Hour Economy policy, which seeks to create jobs, boost productivity, and promote inclusive economic growth by encouraging round-the-clock operations in critical sectors including healthcare, transport, retail, and manufacturing.

Accra, Jul 3 (PTI): India and Ghana have elevated their ties to the level of comprehensive partnership, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirming that New Delhi is a co-traveller in the African nation’s development journey.
Modi made the remarks on Wednesday after holding wide-ranging talks with Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama.
In his media statement, Prime Minister Modi said both sides have set a target of doubling the two-way trade in the next five years and that India is not just a partner but a co-traveller in Ghana’s development journey.
The delegation-level meeting between the two leaders took place hours after Modi arrived in this capital city of the West African country on the first leg of his five-nation tour.
In a special gesture, the prime minister was received at the airport by President Mahama. It is the first prime ministerial visit from India to Ghana in three decades.
Following the Modi-Mahama talks, the two sides inked four pacts that will provide for cooperation in several areas including culture and traditional medicine.
“Today, the president and I have decided to elevate our bilateral partnership to a Comprehensive Partnership,” Modi said, adding, “India is not just a partner but a co-traveller in Ghana’s journey of nation-building.” The prime minister also highlighted the upswing in trade relations between the two countries.
“Indian companies have invested nearly two billion dollars in about 900 projects. Today, we have set a target to double our mutual trade in the next five years,” he said.
“In the field of FinTech, India is ready to share its experience of UPI digital payments with Ghana,” he noted.
The prime minister also said that Indian companies will cooperate in the exploration and mining of critical minerals.
The prime minister said both sides were unanimous that terrorism is the enemy of humanity and that it was decided to further strengthen mutual cooperation in countering the menace.
“We are unanimous that terrorism is the enemy of humanity. We thank Ghana for its cooperation in our fight against terrorism,” Modi said.
“In this context, we have decided to further strengthen mutual cooperation in counter-terrorism,” he said.
In the field of defence and security, we will move forward with the mantra of “security through solidarity”, he added.
India-Ghana cooperation will be enhanced in areas such as training of armed forces, maritime security, defence supply and cyber security, he added.
The prime minister said both sides expressed serious concerns over the conflicts in West Asia and Europe and called for finding solutions to the problems through dialogue and diplomacy.
“This is not the era of war; problems should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy,” Modi said.
The two leaders also touched upon issues facing the Global South.
“We are both members of the Global South, and are fully committed to its priorities. We thank Ghana for its positive participation in the Voice of Global South Summit,” Modi said.
“It is a matter of pride for India that the African Union got permanent membership of the G20 under our G20 presidency,” he added.
Calling the talks with President Mahama “extremely fruitful”, Modi in an X post said, “We have elevated our ties to a Comprehensive Partnership, which will be beneficial for the people of our nations. We discussed ways to improve trade and economic linkages. Cooperation in FinTech, skill development, healthcare and other such sectors were also deliberated upon.” India and Ghana also see immense scope in working closely in areas such as critical minerals, defence, maritime security and energy, he said, adding that enhancing cultural linkages was also discussed.

The convictions stem from evidence that Combs arranged travel and payments for male sex workers involved in the encounters.

Combs remains in custody pending a judge’s decision on bail. Prosecutors are opposing his release, citing his history of witness intimidation and drug use, while his lawyers have proposed a $1 million bond.

The Media Relations Officer at the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, Paa Kwesi Schandorf, has stated that the calls for a declaration of a state of emergency to fight galamsey must first be backed by actionable policies.
According to him while the call remains a vital step in fighting the menace, there is the need for accompanying mechanisms to give effect to such declarations.
Speaking on the AM Show on JoyNews on Monday, July 1,2025, Schandorf explained that at the moment, government is focused on deploying the right measures that will make such declarations yield the results.
This he said is not an excuse for the present non-declaration, adding that the declaration of a state of emergency remains a viable alternative on the table.
“The truth of the matter is that, again I am reiterating, the calls for a state of emergency were valid back then and they still are appropriate in our current circumstances; except that if you’re going to declare a state of emergency and you have not put in the relevant mechanisms that will give the effect to that declaration, then perhaps the declaration itself may be moot, it may be much to do about nothing”, Schandorf noted.
He continued, “If it (declaration of a state of emergency) is done today, I can assure you we would have that applause from the entirety of the populace, the optical bliss would come, the commendations will come from all quarters and everybody would be happy.
“But if the fundamental issues on the grounds which is sometimes the complicity of traditional leaders and all the other nitty gritties are not addressed, you would declare a state of emergency, but you may not be able to see the substantive results. Nothing will give effect to that declaration. And that is why we have consistently said that look, we are not necessarily backtracking or pussyfooting the issue”.
The comments by the ministry’s spokesperson comes on the back of renewed calls for a declaration of a state of emergency, following the NDC’s promise to do so while in opposition.
According to critics, the party is now retreating from its initial pledge, but the ministry’s spokesperson says otherwise.
Citing the scenario of an armed robber who has promised to stop stealing but is yet to discard his guns, Paa Kwesi Schandorf noted that a declaration of a state of emergency without the relevant supporting policies may be likened to such a pointless pronouncement.
He therefore stressed that government is working to institute the right measures that will ultimately make galamsey a thing of the past.
Meanwhile government has so far rolled out some interventions to deal with the issue.
These include the inauguration of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), as well as the ongoing operations of the Blue Waterguard among others.
Despite the critics, government insists that these measures will go a long way to eradicate the prevailing environmental hazard and restore the country’s lands and water bodies.

Ghanaian highlife artiste Kuami Eugene has expressed disappointment over recent comments made by social media personality Archipalago, who accused him of being disrespectful.
In an interview on Hitz FM’s with Doreen Avio and Kwame Dadzie, the hitmaker clarified the incident and dismissed the claims.
Archipalago had earlier alleged that Kuami Eugene refused to speak to him over the phone when he tried to propose a music collaboration through a radio presenter.
“I only called to talk about a possible collaboration, but his attitude was very disrespectful. If he doesn’t want to talk, that’s fine. But he shouldn’t act like he’s above everyone,” Archipalago said in an interview.
Reacting to the accusation, Kuami Eugene said the circumstances surrounding the call were misunderstood and insisted he had no intentions of snubbing Archipalago.
“After the interview, I was going back to my hotel, and the presenter said I should drop her on the way. While we were going to drop her off, Archipalago called her that he heard I was in the studio, and that he had a song he wanted to do with me so she should give the phone to me so he talks to me. And I said I wouldn’t talk to him,” Kuami recounted.
He added that he was already on a call with his mother and didn’t appreciate the pressure to end it for an unsolicited conversation.
“He wanted me to cut the call with my mum and talk to him. And I said I wouldn’t do that. The lady even told him I was doing something so I would call back. I don’t know if he didn’t hear that well.”
