BADEA Approves USD120 million to support Shelter Afrique Development Bank Capitalization Program

Shelter Afrique Development Bank (ShafDB) has announced the signing of a strategic agreement with the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) to support its transformative capital increase initiative.

Effectively, BADEA has approved a landmark USD 120 million to support the capitalization program of Shelter Afrique Development Bank, the leading Pan-African institution focused on affordable housing and urban development. The concessional financing facility will help eligible member states settle and increase their capital subscriptions to ShafDB.

This initiative, developed in partnership with the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), introduces an innovative financing mechanism through which eligible member states can access on-lending at competitive terms. The BADEA-supported facility, totaling USD 120 million, will be used to settle and boost member states’ capital subscriptions to Shelter Afrique Development Bank (ShafDB).

“This agreement with BADEA marks a critical step in strengthening our capital base and advancing our mission of financing affordable housing and sustainable urban infrastructure across Africa,” said Thierno Habib-Hann, Managing Director of Shelter Afrique Development Bank. “We are grateful to BADEA for its strong partnership and unwavering support in this pivotal phase of our institutional evolution.”

The new capital increase program includes an initial equal allocation to all member states, followed by a phased reallocation, first on a pro-rata basis, and then on a first-come, first-served basis. This approach aims to encourage active participation by member states and to strengthen ShafDB’s capital adequacy in a balanced and transparent manner.

Commenting on the program, the president of BADEA, H.E. Abdullah KH ALMUSAIBEEH, “We see this capital program as a strategic milestone in Shelter Afrique Development Bank’s evolution. BADEA is proud to back this initiative, and we remain committed to our shared mission of enabling access to decent housing and inclusive urban development across Africa.”

The need to enhance equity capital has become critical following the institution’s transformation into a Development Bank, a milestone formally approved by Shelter Afrique’s shareholders during the Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) held in Algiers, Algeria, in October 2023.

Building on this transformation, a significant achievement was realized during the Annual General Meeting in June 2024 in Kigali, Rwanda, where shareholders demonstrated strong leadership by endorsing a transformative capital increase program, and the board approved in December 2024 a capital increase of over USD 200 million.

“Expanding capital base will enable the Bank to scale up financing along the housing value chain, access more competitive funding from international and African capital markets, and reinforce its role in addressing the housing deficit and driving inclusive urban development across its 44 member states,” Mr. Hann said.

Increased leverage

The capital increase program has been designed to significantly strengthen ShafDB’s balance sheet over the medium term, expand its shareholder capital base, and to significantly mobilize debts. The capital raised will also support the Bank’s plans to attain investment-grade credit ratings, attract new institutional investors, and expand its lending and technical assistance programs in member countries.

The Member of Parliament for Mpraeso Constituency, Davis Ansah Opoku, has called for urgent collaboration among the Ministries of Roads and Highways, Energy, and the National Road Safety Authority to address the rising fatalities on the Accra–Kumasi Highway.

Speaking in Parliament after 16 young people lost their lives on the Atwidie–Juaso stretch, the MP described the highway as “a national death trap” that requires a coordinated response from multiple government agencies.

“This is not about politics. It is about saving lives. We need streetlights from the Ministry of Energy, proper signage and dualisation from the Ministry of Roads, and strict roadworthiness checks by the Police and the DVLA under the guidance of the National Road Safety Authority,” Opoku said.

He added that the recent crash, which killed 16 passengers returning from a church youth conference, should awaken the country to the urgent need for inter‑ministerial action.

Following the fatal crash, the sixteen members of the Saviour Church of Ghana, who lost their lives ion the Atwedie stretch of the Kumasi–Accra Highway, were, on Thursday, July 31, 2025, laid to rest in a mass burial at Obogu in the Asante Akyem North Municipality.

The devastating crash occurred on Monday, July 28, at about 2:30 PM, when the victims were returning from the church’s annual programme in the Eastern Region.

Eyewitnesses say the accident happened following a head-on collision between the vehicle carrying the church members and an oncoming fuel tanker.

In a sorrowful ceremony filled with grief and prayers, the Obogu community and the church leadership joined hands to dig a single large grave for all 16 victims — a poignant symbol of their togetherness in life and in death.

The tragedy has plunged the entire Obogu community and the Saviour Church into mourning, with bereaved families and friends struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss of their loved ones.

As part of efforts to protect public funds, the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has suspended and terminated the salaries of 53,311 individuals found to be inactive or no longer working with the government but were still receiving salaries.

Out of this number, 5,673 employees who were processed for payment in July 2025 have had their salaries suspended pending further investigations.

In addition, 47,638 individuals have been removed entirely from the government payroll, as their salaries have been terminated.

These actions follow the 2025 Nationwide Payroll Headcount Exercise conducted by the Ghana Audit Service.

The audit revealed that thousands of individuals who had separated from public service continued to draw salaries unlawfully.

In a statement issued and signed by the acting deputy controller and accountant general, Sylvester Acquah on behalf of the controller and accountant general directed heads of institutions to recover any unearned salaries that may have been paid due to wrongful validation.

Moreover it said any affected government employee who was still at post but had their salary stopped was advised to obtain a confirmation letter from their institution addressed to the Auditor-General, with a copy to the Ministry of Finance, to ensure the issue was corrected.

The statement assured that the list of affected employees would be shared with institutions either electronically or in hard copy.

The Timeless Charm of the Short Boubou Gown for Matured Women

0

The Boubou gown, a flowing and elegant garment with deep roots in West African culture, continues to stand the test of time as a staple of traditional and modern wardrobes. While the full-length version remains a classic, the short Boubou gown is gaining traction among matured women who appreciate style with comfort. This modern take retains the traditional essence of the Boubou while offering a refreshed, versatile silhouette suited to today’s lifestyle.

A Modern Twist on a Cultural Classic

Traditionally, the Boubou gown is known for its loose fit, voluminous design, and intricate embroidery, symbolizing elegance and grace. The short Boubou gown maintains these characteristics but offers a cropped length that enhances practicality and mobility. According to Nigerian fashion designer Lola Oduse, “The short Boubou reflects the same elegance as its longer counterpart but brings a playful, modern edge that resonates with women of all ages, especially those who value ease and elegance.”

For matured women, this shorter style strikes a balance—it’s dignified yet contemporary, modest yet effortlessly stylish. It allows for freer movement and is ideal for warm climates or occasions where comfort is paramount.

Flattering for All Body Types

One of the short Boubou gown’s standout qualities is its ability to flatter a wide range of body shapes. Its loose drape gently follows the body’s natural curves without clinging, making it especially suitable for matured women who seek both comfort and elegance. The garment provides a confident, graceful look that doesn’t sacrifice mobility or breathability.

Versatility at Its Best

Whether you’re attending a family event, going to church, or meeting friends for lunch, the short Boubou gown fits right in. For casual outings, simpler versions in cotton or ankara prints pair beautifully with flat sandals. For more formal occasions, opt for a Boubou in silk or chiffon, with beaded or embroidered accents. A pair of heels and statement jewelry can elevate the look instantly.

This versatility means that one well-chosen Boubou can serve multiple purposes in a wardrobe, especially appealing to matured women who want fewer items that do more.

Contemporary Fabrics and Colors

The evolution of fabric choices has contributed to the short Boubou’s growing appeal. Light, breathable fabrics such as linen, chiffon, and polished cotton enhance comfort, especially in warmer regions. Jewel tones like emerald, sapphire, and ruby add sophistication, while neutral shades bring understated elegance.

Designers are also incorporating metallic threads, lace inserts, and modern cuts to give the gown a contemporary flair without compromising its cultural significance.

Cultural Expression Meets Contemporary Fashion

Short Boubou gowns are more than just fashion—they’re a celebration of African heritage. Embroidery, beadwork, and patterns often reflect regional traditions and personal stories. For matured women who want to embrace their roots while staying current, the short Boubou is a meaningful, stylish choice.

Wearing such attire not only honors cultural history but also allows individuals to make a subtle yet powerful statement about identity, pride, and elegance.

Ghana must intentionally build indigenous agribusiness unicorns

0

Ghana must intentionally develop indigenous agribusiness champions to drive industrialisation, create jobs, and position the country on the global trade map, Dan Fahene Acquaye, CEO of Agri-Impact Group, has said.

Speaking at the National Agribusiness Dialogue held at the Kempinski Hotel, Gold City, Accra on Monday, July 28, 2025, Mr. Acquaye urged stakeholders to pursue smart policies, strategic partnerships, and export-driven incentives to nurture local firms into billion-dollar Unicorns.

“It is not easy to count more than 15 large-scale indigenous agro-processing firms in the country. Agribusiness firms are saddled with legacy debts largely due to lack of specialised financing products for actors,” Mr. Acquaye said.

He called for the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry to champion this agenda, ensuring agribusiness is not only local in operation but global in vision.

“These champions will not emerge by chance. They must be intentionally built through smart policies, targeted incentives and strategic partnerships. With a strong export orientation, they can brand Ghanaian quality, increase access to global and regional markets and fully integrate our producers into global value chains. Agribusiness may be local in operation but must be global in our vision,” the agribusiness mogul noted.

Dan Fahene Acquaye also decried Ghana’s staggering $2 billion in post-harvest losses annually, calling it a missed economic opportunity.

He urged government and stakeholders to establish a dedicated Agri-Fund to finance critical agro-processing infrastructure and blended financing solutions.

“A fund that will be a game-changer; de-risking investments, unlocking capital, and empowering industry actors to scale with confidence and resilience and reset the staggering $2 billion post-harvest losses into agribusiness gains.”

“Agribusiness which is the demand side of skilled labour, churning out young entrepreneurs, must receive equal financial attention as Education which is the supply side of skilled labour,” he added.

Speaking at the National Agribusiness Dialogue in Accra, the Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, emphasised that the expanded government mandate to include agribusiness reflects a pivotal shift in the country’s economic strategy, one that aligns with President Mahama’s vision to position Ghana as a regional leader in agribusiness.

“We must move beyond traditional approaches. This policy must be inclusive, forward-looking, and aligned with our economic transformation goals,” the Minister said, noting the need to address key challenges such as access to finance, value addition, market systems, and agri-tech adoption.

President John Dramani Mahama, who officially opened the Dialogue, said agribusiness is a critical engine for Ghana’s industrial transformation and pledged his government’s commitment to bold reforms that will unlock the sector’s full potential.

Delivering the keynote address, President Mahama described agribusiness as his personal passion, emphasising its capacity to drive inclusive growth, create jobs, and position Ghana competitively in the global agricultural value chain. This is not just a stakeholder meeting; it is a vital turning point in our journey to move Ghana from an agrarian economy to an industrial, export-oriented one, the President stated.

He highlighted key initiatives, including the Feed the Industries Programme, 24-Hour Economy Policy, and the Rapid Industrialisation Initiative, designed to ensure year-round raw material supply, boost processing capacity, and integrate farmers into formal markets.

To support this, President Mahama announced ongoing and new irrigation projects, a plan to waive import duties on agro-processing machinery, and a medium-term strategy to retool local fabrication of agri-machinery through the GRATIS Foundation.

The National Agribusiness Dialogue is geared towards formulating a policy for Ghana’s agribusiness sector.

It was organised by the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry in partnership with Agri-Impact Limited, Mastercard Foundation, PwC, DBG, FAGE and the Chamber of Agribusiness Ghana.

Gold exports drive surge in Ghana’s trade balance – BoG Report

0

By Jibril Abdul Mumuni

Accra, Aug. 1, GNA – Ghana’s gold exports have surged significantly, contributing to a remarkable improvement in the country’s trade balance, according to the latest data released by the Bank of Ghana (BoG).

The report shows that gold exports rose sharply from $ 4.65 billion in June 2024 to $8.39 billion in June 2025, underscoring the sector’s pivotal role in bolstering Ghana’s external trade performance.

Gold remained the top foreign exchange earner, accounting for over 60% of total exports in some quarters.

The second quarter of 2025 saw gold shipments hit $8.39 billion, up from $3.73 billion in the first quarter of the same year.

The consistent growth in gold exports has been attributed to increased production, higher global prices, and government efforts to curb illegal mining while promoting responsible sourcing.

The strong performance of gold, alongside cocoa and oil, pushed Ghana’s trade balance to a surplus of $5.57 billion in June 2025, up from $551.9 million in March 2024.

The current account balance also improved significantly, recording a surplus of $3.44 billion 3.9 per cent of GDP by mid-2025, compared to a deficit of $117.6 million in March 2024.

Gross International Reserves (GIR) expanded to $11.12 billion in June 2025, supported by rising gold holdings, which increased to 33.0 tonnes from 20.6 tonnes in March 2024.

My girlfriend left me for five years and showed up on my engagement day

File photo of a worried man File photo of a worried man

Dear GhanaWeb,

I was in a relationship with a woman for three years.

We truly loved each other. I did everything to make her happy, and she was always there for me. I was even planning to propose to her.

We lived together in my house most of the time. But one morning, I woke up and she was gone. I assumed she had gone to her place, but when I checked, she wasn’t there either. I called and texted her, no response. I started panicking, thinking something might have happened to her.

I reported her disappearance to the police. Even her best friend had no idea where she was. She asked if we had a misunderstanding, but there had been none.

I was heartbroken and kept asking myself why she would leave me like that.

I loved her deeply and decided to wait, hoping she would return. The police tried their best but couldn’t find her. She had already lost both of her parents, which made me even more worried.

Weeks turned into months, and months into years. Five years passed, and I still couldn’t move on. I couldn’t bring myself to love any other woman. A few women tried to get close, but I just wasn’t interested.

Six months ago, I met a new lady. We started talking, and I liked her from the first day. She would visit often, and we spent a lot of time together.

Gradually, I realized I was falling in love again. I opened up to her about my feelings, and to my joy, she felt the same way.

We began dating, and she’s been amazing, so loving, so supportive. I fell deeply in love with her and started thinking seriously about a future together. I spoke to my best friend, and he encouraged me to propose.

Last week, I planned a surprise proposal with my best friend’s help, at my house. When my girlfriend arrived, she was surprised but happy.

I got down on one knee with the ring in hand… and then, shockingly, my ex, the one who vanished, walked in.

I froze. I couldn’t go through with the proposal. My house was still filled with her framed pictures. My current girlfriend had asked about them before, and I told her everything.

The moment she saw my ex, she ran off. I had to face the woman who disappeared on me. She claimed she left because she had a family emergency and couldn’t return. She said many things, and I found myself believing her.

Then she cried and accused me of giving up on her, ignoring the fact that I waited for five years.

She said she is back now and that I should forget about my current girlfriend. But it’s not that simple. My current girlfriend helped me heal. She made me believe in love again. I truly love her.

Yet, seeing my first love again stirred old emotions. I feel like I might still love her too. She’s now living in my house because she says she has nowhere else to go, and she returned specifically for me.

Now I’m torn between two women. Both make me feel alive. I’ve been asked to choose one, but I honestly don’t know what to do.

Should I go back to my first love? Or should I move forward and propose to the woman who has been there for me these past few months?

Please, I need help.

GACL terminates controversial Evatex contract amid OSP probe

0

The contract was signed on December 4, 2024 and was set to end on August 27, 2025 The contract was signed on December 4, 2024 and was set to end on August 27, 2025

The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has officially terminated its controversial revenue assurance contract with Evatex Logistics Limited, following sustained public criticism and an ongoing investigation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

The termination was communicated in a letter dated July 28, 2025, and signed by GACL Managing Director, Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare.

The contract, which was signed on December 4, 2024, is set to end on August 27, 2025.

GACL cited the absence of any evidence of revenue concealment during Evatex’s operations at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) cargo section as the basis for ending the agreement.

The company also confirmed that no payments had been made to Evatex since the contract’s inception, as no recoveries were recorded to warrant compensation.

The agreement included a clause allowing either party to terminate the contract without cause, provided one month’s written notice was given. In line with this, GACL has instructed Evatex to demobilise and vacate its operations at KIA by the termination date.

“Hence, effective 27th August 2025, the agreement executed on 4th December 2024 shall cease to have effect and shall be considered as terminated by GACL. You are therefore required to use this notice period to demobilise and leave the premises of Kotoka International Airport on or before 27th August 2025,” the letter stated.

Evatex was contracted to carry out revenue assurance services at the airport’s cargo section, with a contractual entitlement to 15% of any concealed revenue it helped GACL recover.

However, a special audit commissioned by the GACL Managing Director in June 2024 found no evidence of underreporting or concealment, thereby undermining the contract’s rationale.

Despite this, the agreement had stipulated that payment would only be made upon successful recovery of concealed revenue, an outcome that never materialised.

The contract has come under intense scrutiny due to Evatex’s affiliation with Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML) and questions surrounding the procurement process.

The situation escalated when former GACL Board Chairman, Paul Adom-Otchere, was arrested as part of the Special Prosecutor’s probe into the contract’s approval.

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has held a high-level strategic meeting with the Ghana Association of Banks (GAB) to strengthen collaboration on identity security and tackle emerging threats to the country’s identification system.

The meeting, held at the GAB Conference Room in Accra, brought together leadership from the NIA’s key directorates and top officials of GAB.

The discussions centred on the operations of the Identity Verification System Platform (IVSP), which facilitates biometric identity authentication in financial transactions.

A major concern raised during the engagement was the growing threat of illegal Ghana Card registrations by foreign nationals.

Both parties expressed concern about the implications of such activities on national security, financial integrity, and public trust in the identification system.

The NIA emphasised the need for closer cooperation with the banking sector to prevent fraudulent access to identity credentials and to bolster efforts in protecting the Ghana Card ecosystem.

In a joint resolution, the NIA and GAB reaffirmed their commitment to working together to enhance verification protocols, promote data integrity, and safeguard the country’s identity infrastructure as a critical pillar of national development.

Speaking to Guide Sports Xtra hosted by Ben Osei Bonsu, CEO of Bibiani Gold Stars Kwasi Adu said the club’s two-week training camp has been productive, with players responding well to intensive sessions and test matches.

“Many of our fans live in Accra, and we’re working hard to bring them on board to support us fully.”

Despite juggling the CAF Champions League, Ghana Premier League, and FA Cup campaigns, the CEO is optimistic.

“We want to be competitive on all fronts. Our fans must stay patient, committed, and understand this journey we’re on.”

In an interview with Sporty FM, Adubea disclosed that she was heavily criticised while trying to get back to her best during her days in Techiman with Ampem Darkoa Ladies.

I have no issues with Ahiafor, we’re adjusting

0

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has dismissed claims of personal tension between himself and First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor, following their recent disagreement during the vetting of a Supreme Court nominee.

The incident occurred on June 18 during the Appointments Committee’s vetting of Justice Hafisata Amaleboba, when Afenyo-Markin posed a question that Chairman Ahiafor deemed repetitive and procedurally inadmissible. Ahiafor directed the nominee not to respond, prompting a strong objection from Afenyo-Markin and a heated public exchange between the two.

Speaking about the incident in an interview on Friday, August 1, Afenyo-Markin said the clash should be seen as part of a broader adjustment process among the new parliamentary leadership.

“I think we are all adjusting. It’s the first time Ahiafor is serving as First Deputy Speaker, and it’s also my first time as Minority Leader. The same applies to Mahama Ayariga being Majority Leader,” he explained on Joy News.

He emphasised that such disagreements are natural in a democratic setting and should not be taken personally.

“I don’t take some of those issues personally. I can’t use something I disagree with to judge someone. I’m sure they also have issues with my approach. But we’ve had six months, and we’re getting used to each other,” he said.

Afenyo-Markin stressed that all parties involved are still learning and adjusting to their roles, and expressed optimism about improved collaboration moving forward.

“I am not here to fault anyone. We all make mistakes, and we’re all adjusting. I’m confident that by the end of the year, we will have fully understood each other so we can work better for the sake of democracy,” he stated.

Paul Adom-Otchere released after meeting revised bail conditions

0

Former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited, Paul Adom-Otchere, has been released from custody.

He was released from the OSP’s office in the company of Former Attorney General, Godfred Dame and his lawyers.

However, Adom-Otchere has reportedly been recalled by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to complete some administrative procedures.

This comes after the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) approved revised bail conditions for Paul Adom-Otchere, the former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), following negotiations with his legal counsel.

In a statement released on Friday, August 1, the OSP confirmed that the revised terms meet the objectives of the original bail conditions and have been secured by the Jospong Group of Companies, acting as surety.

“The revised terms, which meet the objectives of the original bail conditions, have been secured by the Jospong Group of Companies,” the OSP said, noting that the matter remains under active investigation.

Adom-Otchere was recently charged by the OSP in connection with a revenue assurance contract between GACL and a private firm, allegedly awarded without full board approval. He was initially detained after failing to meet bail requirements, citing his lack of ownership of landed property in Ghana.

Ablekuma North: ‘I’m certain NDC hierarchy backed the excesses’ – Afenyo-Markin

0

Minority Leader in Parliament and Member of Parliament for Efutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has alleged that the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was aware of, and supported, the violent incidents that occurred during the recent parliamentary rerun in the Ablekuma North constituency.

Speaking in an interview on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Friday, August 1, the Minority leader, responding to a question on whether it surprises him that there had been no prosecutions following the violence recorded during the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun, expressed concern and suspicion about the silence of authorities.

“Obviously, there’s no doubt in my mind that the party hierarchy knew what was happening. They supported them. Of course, the leaders decided to stay away from the crime scene,” he said.

He explained that intelligence gathered before and during the poll pointed to deliberate planning.

“We are not kids. I mean, we had intel that that was what they were going to do, and they followed through,” he added, describing the move as a dangerous tactic by the party to distance itself from violent acts while indirectly endorsing them.

According to him, such actions are dangerous and set a bad precedent. He warned that the youth often used in such acts of political violence may later turn against the very parties who recruit them.

“I keep also cautioning the NDC, you use them one day, when you don’t satisfy them, they would unleash that violence on you,” he cautioned.

When asked whether a failure by both parties to resolve the issues from the Ablekuma North rerun could lead to heightened tensions in the upcoming Akwatia by-election, Mr Afenyo-Markin acknowledged the concern but maintained that the NPP remains committed to peaceful democratic processes.

“No, NPP is a law-abiding party. I do not think that violence has helped any democracy. We must not encourage it. We must not support it. We should rather take steps to give a positive outlook to democracy,” he stated.

He urged politicians to de-escalate tensions and protect the voting process.

“People must do their campaign. The process of voting must be safeguarded. When it comes to the counting, we should allow the space for a fair, transparent system. I think we should all work towards that,” he added.

He also referenced the upcoming by-election in Akwatia, expressing hope that the NDC would choose a peaceful path.

“The NDC’s posture in Akwatia will tell us whether they are turning a new leaf; they would want democracy to be without violence. So let’s see how they react in Akwatia,” he noted.

How to find your personal style

0

File photo: Models showing off their fashion styles File photo: Models showing off their fashion styles

Finding your personal fashion style involves understanding your preferences, experimenting with different trends, and building a wardrobe that reflects your unique personality and lifestyle.

It’s a journey of self-discovery, an exploration of patterns, designs, and colours that truly resonate with you.

Start by identifying and understanding your body shape, measurements, and proportions (such as hourglass, pear-shaped, rectangular, inverted triangle, or apple-shaped).

Recognizing your body type is the first essential step in discovering a style that works for you. It determines not only what clothes to wear but also how to style them effectively.

Fashion can be approached like a SWOT analysis; understanding your Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats.

Choose clothing that flatters your figure, highlights your strengths, balances your weaknesses, explores opportunities, and avoids style “threats” that don’t suit your frame or personality.

Consider your occupation, hobbies, daily routine, and social life. These aspects help determine the types of clothing you need. Invest in pieces that fit your lifestyle, whether minimalistic, luxurious, artistic, or active.

This might include comfortable workwear, casual outfits for errands, or stylish evening wear. A wardrobe tailored to your life not only helps refine your style but also prevents unnecessary spending.

Look for inspiration from people whose style you admire, whether celebrities, influencers, or friends. Analyze what draws you to their look.

Is it their colour palette, use of patterns, or choice of silhouettes? Use this as a starting point, then add your own personal touch to make it your own.

Don’t be afraid to experiment. Step out of your comfort zone and try new styles, fabrics, colours, and combinations. Mistakes are part of the process. Through experimentation, you’ll discover what works for you, and what doesn’t, helping you sharpen and define your style.

Pay attention to details. Accessories like jewelry, hats, belts, or scarves can elevate even the simplest outfit. These small touches bring personality and polish to your look.

Above all, stay authentic. Your style should reflect your personality, values, and attitude. Don’t feel pressured to follow every trend. Instead, selectively incorporate trends that align with your aesthetic.

Remember, fashion is an undefined story, and your personal style is your unique chapter in it.

Paul Adom-Otchere was detained by the OSP on July 31, 2025 Paul Adom-Otchere was detained by the OSP on July 31, 2025

A former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited, Paul Adom-Otchere, has been released after meeting bail conditions.

He was reportedly released in the company of the former Attorney General, Godfred Dame, and his lawyers, on Friday, August 1, 2025.

This was confirmed by his lawyer, Apreku Agyepong, in an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb.

According to him, his client was released after meeting the bail conditions.

It may be recalled that Adom-Otchere was granted bail by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) on condition that he is able to provide two landed properties of a specific value listed in his name.

However, Adom-Otchere reportedly informed the OSP that he does not own any landed property in the country.

But speaking with GhanaWeb, Agyepong clarified that after someone stood as surety for Adom-Otchere, he was eventually released.

“He was made to bring someone else to stand as surety for him,” he said.

Paul Adom-Otchere is facing charges in connection with a revenue assurance contract awarded during his tenure at the Ghana Airport Company Limited, which the OSP is probing for potential procurement breaches.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor has detained Paul Adom-Otchere, a former Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited’s board, and two others.

Adom-Otchere, a seasoned broadcaster in Ghana, and the two others – Otchere Kwame Baffour Awuah, Group Executive, Commercial Services, GACL, and Albert Adjetey Adjei-Laryea, CEO of Devnest Systems – were detained after honouring an invitation by the OSP.

According to a post shared by the OSP on social media, the three were questioned over possible procurement breaches in the revenue assurance contract between GACL and a company owned by the proprietor of Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML).

“Mr Adom-Otchere is under investigation in connection with a revenue assurance contract between the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) and a private firm owned by the proprietor of Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML). The OSP is examining possible procurement breaches, including a sole-sourced contract awarded to a company other than the one approved by the GACL Board,” part of the post, which was shared on Thursday, July 31, 2025, reads.

The OSP indicated that the three men have been charged and were detained after failing to meet the bail conditions that were set for their release.

“The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has interviewed and formally charged the former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited, Paul Adom-Otchere, and two others. However, Mr Adom-Otchere has so far been unable to meet his bail conditions.

“He is required to present two landed properties (of no specific value) registered in his name. However, he has informed the OSP that he does not own landed property in Ghana. As a result, he remains in custody until the bail terms are satisfied,” the OSP said.

Trump hits South Africa with 30% tariffs

0

South African products exported to the US will be hit by a 30% tariff from 7 August, President Donald Trump has announced.

South Africa faces the highest rate in sub-Saharan Africa, reflecting Trump’s strained relationship with the government of President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Other African nations, including Nigeria, Ghana, Lesotho, and Zimbabwe, have been hit with a 15% tariff, which will also come into effect in seven days.

The decision is a huge blow to South Africa, as the US is its second-biggest trading partner.

Looking across the whole continent, including North Africa, exports from Algeria and Libya will now also incur a 30% tariff at the US border.

Tunisian goods are facing a 25% rate. Goods from Kenya and Ethiopia, on the other hand, will be charged at the lower 10% rate.

Tariffs are taxes charged on goods bought from other countries – typically, they are a percentage of a product’s value.

Trump argues that introducing tariffs will protect American businesses from foreign competition and also boost domestic manufacturing and jobs.

South Africa’s automobile, farming and textile sectors had enjoyed duty-free access to the US market under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (Agoa), which was enacted in 2000 to help countries on the continent create jobs and grow their economies.

Trump’s announcement effectively spells the end of Agoa, even though it is officially up for review in September.

Ahead of Trump’s 1 August deadline, South Africa had been trying to agree a trade deal with the US, which included buying US liquefied natural gas, simplifying rules for US poultry imports, and investing $3.3bn (£2.5bn) in US industries like mining, according to the Reuters news agency.

Reacting to the news of the 30% tariff, Ramaphosa said his administration would “continue negotiating with the US” and had “submitted a framework deal” to its US counterpart.

“In the meantime, the government is finalising a package to support companies that are vulnerable to the reciprocal tariffs.”

The government also noted that there were exceptions for certain goods, such as copper, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, some critical minerals, stainless steel scrap and energy products.

US-South Africa relations have hit rock-bottom since Trump took office in January.

The US president has stopped all aid to South Africa, accusing it of discriminating against its white minority. South Africa has repeatedly denied this.

Ramaphosa held talks with Trump in May in a bid to mend relations but this failed to make any headway.

Earlier this week, Trump indicated he would “maybe send someone else” to the G20 Leaders Summit taking place later this year in Johannesburg.

“I’ve had a lot of problems with South Africa. They have some very bad policies,” he told reporters.

South Africa Wine said Trump’s announcement placed the sector at a “severe disadvantage” compared to competitor countries with lower tax rates.

The association urged the US and South Africa to “intensify efforts to resolve this matter swiftly to avoid long-term harm to trade, investment and jobs”.

The US is the fourth biggest importer of South African wine, which also enjoyed duty-free access under Agoa, according to a local report looking at wine exports.

Other African nations have also reacted to the tariffs announcement.

Kenya said it welcomed having the “lowest rate among nations with comparable export interests”.

The east African country’s trade and industry department also said it remained “committed to deepening its longstanding trade and investment” with the US and would continue engaging with its counterpart to “safeguard and grow the historical trade ties that have benefited both our countries”.

In Lesotho, Trade Minister Mokhethi Shelile lamented the announcement of the 15% tariff, telling the BBC that the country’s textile and garment industry “will not be able to compete at all” with other markets.

Lesotho is one of the African nations that have benefited most from Agoa, exporting jeans for iconic American brands such as Levi’s and Wrangler, among others. It had initially been threatened with a rate of 50%, higher than any other country.

TZICC, a Lesotho garments factory that produced sportswear for American companies JCPenney, Walmart, and Costco, said it was unhappy with the 15% rate because it “still affects our orders and buyers”.

The textile industry, the country’s largest private employer, has already been affected by the uncertainty around Agoa and the tariffs, leading to some factories cutting staff or shutting down altogether.

Moroccan Women’s Team Honoured With Royal Reception After WAFCON Exploit

King Mohammed VI with members of the women’s national team

ON THE occasion of the Throne Day celebrations, King Mohammed VI received the Atlas Lionesses, finalists of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, in Tetouan on Tuesday, July 30.

The royal audience was marked by gratitude and symbolism, recognising a golden generation of Moroccan women’s football.

This event, part of the festivities marking the 26th anniversary of the Sovereign’s enthronement, celebrated a historic achievement. For the second consecutive time, Morocco reached the final of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, confirming its status as a new continental power in women’s football.

The reception of the women’s national team by His Majesty King Mohammed VI marks a historic and deeply symbolic moment for national sports. By honoring the Atlas Lionesses following their remarkable performance in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), the Sovereign once again highlights His ongoing commitment to the development of sports, and in particular, women’s football.

This royal recognition is not an isolated gesture, but part of a strategic vision championed by the King, placing Moroccan women at the heart of national progress.

For several years now, Morocco has made the development of women’s football a priority, through a determined, structured, and inclusive policy.

Driven by His Majesty, the Moroccan model for developing women’s football has been built on several pillars thanks to the excellent work carried out by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) under the leadership of its President, Fouzi Lekjaa.

Indeed, in 2019, the FRMF adopted a four-year strategic plan (2020-2024) for the development of women’s football. The structured National Women’s League and the U17 and U15 championships were established, along with monthly financial support for women’s clubs and enhanced technical support.

In addition, as part of this strategy, other measures were taken, including integration of women’s football into the FRMF’s regional academies, Creation of training centers dedicated to young girls, Collaboration with schools to identify talent from a young age and Increased media coverage in the press and on social networks highlighting club and national team performances

The reception of the women’s national team by the King symbolises the recognition of this collective effort and the promise of an even more ambitious future for Moroccan women’s football. This solemn moment serves as a reminder that, in the Kingdom, sport is not only a driver of international influence but also a powerful tool for inclusion, dignity, and equality.

GACL terminates controversial revenue assurance contract with Evatex

‘NPP government paid millions monthly for ghana.gov without contracts’

Samuel Nartey George is the Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation Samuel Nartey George is the Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation

The Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has revealed that the government has cancelled payments previously made to certain companies that had no formal contracts for work on the ghana.gov platform.

Addressing Ghanaians during the Government Accountability Series on Friday, August 1, 2025, the minister stated that substantial monthly payments were illegally made to these companies under the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

Sam George added that the current government has since cancelled the payments and has not paid any amount for the platform since assuming office.

“The ghana.gov platform has run under the previous administration of President Akufo-Addo without a contract. Tens of millions of Ghana cedis were paid every month to companies without a contract.

“We have put an end and a stop to it. Since President Mahama came into office, not a pesewa has been paid on that because we cannot keep paying for a project that has no contract,” he said.

Additionally, the minister, who is also the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, stated that as part of the government’s resetting agenda, it has taken further measures beyond the cancellation, announcing that a newly redesigned project has been developed.

According to him, the new project will feature distinctive elements such as full integration with the Ghana Card and is expected to be rolled out in the fourth quarter of 2025.

“The ministry has redesigned the project. We are going to launch it in Q4 of this year, working closely with the Ministry of Finance. We are currently at the Public Procurement Authority seeking clearance to proceed with a public tender to ensure that the best value for money is achieved for the Ghanaian people,” he announced.

“The redesigned site will feature faster access, full Ghana card integration, an intuitive streamlined interface tailored for both individuals and businesses, and will harmonize all of government’s payment gateways and platforms into one portal,” he added.

GHANA.GOV is a digital service and revenue collection platform created to provide a single point of access to Government of Ghana services across the public sector.

Prior to its redesign, the platform offered the following services:

1. Processing of all payments and transfers (both electronic and cash) against predefined service flows of each MDA and MMDA.

2. Manage post-payment workflow, customer notification, feedback and service ratings. Thereby, enabling the Government of Ghana fulfil its goal of creating a cash-lite economy.

Health Minister urges Achimota Hospital to address patient delays

0

The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has called on the management of the Achimota Municipal Hospital to urgently address the prolonged waiting times patients face when seeking medical care.

His directive followed a visit to the facility on Friday, August 1, 2025, during which several patients voiced frustrations over delays in accessing medical attention.

While interacting with patients in the queue, many complained about having waited for hours without being attended to.

“I got here as early as 5 a.m., but I have still not been attended to because the doctor I was assigned to was absent,” one patient said.

Another patient criticised the conduct of some hospital staff, accusing them of deliberately delaying consultations.

“They are always on their phones, but when you complain, they get offended,” the patient alleged.

Minister Akandoh expressed concern over the situation and assured patients that corrective measures would be taken. He also noted with displeasure the absence of key hospital officials, including the Medical Superintendent and Administrator, during his unannounced visit.

“You can be alternating. If the head is not there, then the assistant should be there. Someone should be at post. If the key personnel are not around, then who is in control? You don’t do that,” he stated.

The Jospong Group of Companies has stepped in to secure bail for Paul Adom-Otchere, the former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), after he failed to meet initial bail conditions set by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

In a statement issued on social media, the OSP confirmed that it had “accepted revised bail conditions proposed by legal counsel for Mr. Paul Adom-Otchere.”

It added that “the revised terms, which meet the objectives of the original bail conditions, have been secured by the Jospong Group of Companies, acting as surety.”

The development follows an earlier announcement by the OSP that Adom-Otchere had been formally charged and detained after failing to meet initial bail requirements. He was expected to provide “two landed properties (of no specific value) registered in his name,” but informed the OSP he “does not own landed property in Ghana.”

That failure meant he remained in custody, unlike his co-accused, Otchere Kwame Baffour Awuah, Group Executive of Commercial Services at GACL, and Albert Adjetey Adjei-Laryea, CEO of Devnest Systems, who were also charged but not reported to be in detention.

All three are being investigated in connection with a controversial revenue assurance contract between GACL and a private firm reportedly linked to the proprietor of Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML).

The OSP is probing possible procurement breaches, including a sole-sourced contract awarded to a company not approved by the GACL Board.

Although the case remains under active investigation, the OSP has not disclosed a timeline for prosecution or further action. However, the acceptance of a new bail arrangement suggests the inquiry is entering a new phase.

The Jospong Group, one of Ghana’s largest conglomerates, owns Ignite Media Group, which operates Metro TV where Adom-Otchere works as the host of Good Evening Ghana.

Former Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mark Okraku Mantey, has shed light on why the late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba was often described as a perfectionist.

In an interview with JoyPrime, shared on social media on August 1, 2025, Okraku Mantey, recounted a memorable incident in which the musician declined to perform at an event in honour of former President John Agyekum Kufuor until his wife, Akosua Serwaa, arrived.

According to him, Lumba insisted, stating that his wife’s presence inspires him during live performances and was essential to his confidence on stage.

“On 27 December, I think, when President Kufour had come in as a fresh president. And almost all the top people, like the late President Rawlings. I think almost the whole of Accra was there.

“If we tell you what Lumba took the organiser through before going on stage. To the extent that he said if his wife doesn’t come, he won’t perform,” he said.

Mark Okraku Mantey further recounted how the late musician had someone vacate his seat for his wife.

“…Osei Kwame Despite, and Fada Dickson had to organise and bring his wife. When the wife came, he actually told them the exact place he wanted her to sit.

They told him somebody was sitting there, and he was like he didn’t care.

“They had to go sack the person sitting there for the wife to sit there… The show he did that night, he made Daasebre and the other artistes look bad that night,” he added.

Five tins wey become more expensive for Canada sake of Trump tariff

0

Di trade war between di US and Canada don sharply go bad wit President Donald Trump increasing di tariff rate for Canadian imports from 25% to 35%.

Most goods go avoid di increased costs wen dem dey enta di US market becos dem dey currently exempted under one existing North American trade treaty.

But some key products dey really hit hard.

Earlier dis year, Canada respond wit counter-tariffs of dia own for tens of billions of dollars worth of American products. From tomato ketchup to washing machines.

Meanwhile, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney say e dey “disappointed” by di increased tariff on some exports to di United States.

Dem say e too early to determine di full impact, sabi pipo say prices don already dey go up on evriday items for Canadians and e go continue to dey rise.

Dis na di breakdown of di products wey don become more expensive.

Fridge and washing machine

Canada don impose counter-tariffs for US-made washers, dryers, refrigerators and HVAC units.

Wit dis and di rise of American sheet-steel prices sake of Trump 50% tariff ontop imported metals, e mean say di sticker price for dis items don gone up, according to Andreas Schotter, professor of international business for Western University for Ontario.

For Canadians, dis don result for di cost of refrigerators and freezers to dey rise by 2% on average.

Dishwashing and laundry appliances go up by 4.5% for June from di same time last year, according to Statistics Canada.

Andrew Barclay, analyst wit di stats agency, say di percentages dey offset by di fact say no be all appliances wey dem dey sell for Canada bin come from di US.

E mean say consumers fit shop around to avoid paying more.

Prof Schotter say some retailers don dey advertise “pre-tariff” sales on dishwashers and heat pumps – “to let dem know say ordinary pricing dey set to move up”.

New and used cars

Di automotive sector dey specially hard hit by US tariffs, sake of how car manufacturing supply chains dey between di two countries.

One vehicle fit cross di US-Canada-Mexico border up to eight times bifor dem go fully assemble am.

Di Trump administration don impose 25% tariff on all cars and trucks wey dem no build for US. Canada don return dia own wit similar reciprocal tariffs, though dem make exemptions for automakers wey dey agree wit di existing North American free trade agreement and dose wey continue to dey manufacture for di country.

Car manufacturers don also dey hit by US metals tariffs.

E don result in higher prices on new vehicles. Di cost go up more dan 5% for June compared to last year, Mr Barclay tok.

“We don also see prices go up on di used car side of tins, wey suggest say pipo fit no fit buy new cars,” e tell di BBC.

Prof Schotter say pipo dey choose to keep dia cars longer to avoid buying new one.

Peanut butter, can soup and oda groceries

Canada counter-tariffs dey target some of US produced or manufactured foods.

Some of dose items don dey subjected to temporary six-month exemption wey go start for April to provide “immediate relief” for Canadian businesses wey dey rely on US products.

Still, grocery shelves dey see impact. Canada largest grocer, Loblaw, don begin dey label items wit “T” to show say di price don rise sake of tariffs.

Di grocer don add label to nearly 7,500 items.

Dem include tomato ketchup and oda tomato sauces wey dem import from US, and pantry staple like peanut butter and jam.

Turkey, pasta and oranges, all of dem don chop tariff and don increase in price.

Michael von Massow, professor of agriculture for Guelph University, say fruit juice prices don rise to 7.5% from last year sake of counter measures on American citrus.

Can soup get 8% increase for di same period sake of steel and aluminium levies, Prof von Massow tok.

Canada get most of dia food packaging – like soup cans – from di US.

Di Loblaw CEO say items wey dem label wit “T” don see 20% reduce in sales on average.

<>Cloth and footwear

For June, unusual price increase on cloth bin hit di market, according to Mr Barclay of Statistics Canada.

While Canada don place counter-tariffs on US clothing imports, e believe say di higher price no dey directly related to dose levies but dem be symptom of di broader ongoing global trade war.

Major manufacturing hubs like China and Vietnam don dey subjected to rising and falling sake of American tariffs, wey don fuel uncertainty for dose sectors.

Di result na 2% jump for di price of clothing and footwear from last year, Mr Barclay say.

NDC Central Regional Chairman drops ‘Professor’ title after GTEC warning

0

The Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Richard Kofi Asiedu, has officially stopped using the title “Professor” following a directive from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).

In a disclaimer issued on Friday, August 1, Dr Kofi Asiedu confirmed his compliance with GTEC’s caution, stating, “As a law-abiding citizen, I have duly obliged the notice by GTEC and have accordingly ceased using the title of professor.”

His decision follows a letter from GTEC dated July 28, 2024, which warned him about the continued use of the academic title without the appropriate academic qualifications. The Commission cited Section 8(4)(d) of the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020 (Act 1023), which bars the use of academic titles unless legitimately earned.

GTEC indicated that Mr. Asiedu had previously been directed on June 2, 2025, to stop using the title and submit proof of its removal from public platforms, along with documentation of his academic qualifications.

In response, Mr Asiedu clarified that the title was honorary and conferred on him by Alfred Nobel University in Ukraine in recognition of his contributions to human development. He said he had used the title for the past three years without knowing it was in breach of regulations.

“I did not know that honorary titles could not be used until this prompting by GTEC,” he noted. “I have consequently reverted to my credentials as a PhD holder, earned through research in 2012.”

He urged the public to take note of the change and act accordingly.

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) into a cornerstone of national development.

Speaking at Tamale Technical University’s (TaTU) 7th congregation, GTEC Accreditation Director Saaka Sayuti outlined plans to establish modern TVET centers and upgrade existing infrastructure, aiming to equip youth with “practical skills for employability, wealth creation, and enhanced livelihoods.”

Sayuti, representing GTEC Director-General Prof. Ahmed Abdulai Jinapor, emphasized TVET’s integration into a “comprehensive, demand-driven system” from elementary to tertiary levels.

The policy shift aligns with Ghana’s goal to bolster global competitiveness through skills development. At the ceremony, 775 graduates received credentials across TaTU’s 128 programs, including 18 master’s degrees and 40 bachelor’s degrees.

University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Bashiru Ibn Moro Saeed highlighted TaTU’s industry-aligned curriculum and three near-complete Ghana Education Trust Fund projects, stressing: “We champion transformative partnerships to promote equitable access to quality education.”

Governing Council Chair Mandariwura Alhaji Gilbert Seidu Iddi echoed this, pledging continued resource mobilization while urging GTEC to resolve administrative staff allowance delays. Graduates were challenged to leverage innovation in addressing global challenges like technological disruption.

Communities including Bagli, Gbanlua, Nambrugu, and Kpason reported tangible progress from new STEM institutions to reliable water sources—during the MP’s recent constituency tour.

Nambrugu resident Abdul Razak Alhassan highlighted key projects: “Our children now have free WiFi for studies, wives no longer trek for water, and clinics are accessible.” He specifically noted the Pishigu Senior School, Karaga STEM College of Education, Nyong Technical Institute, and Binduli STEM Junior High School as transformative investments. A scholarship fund for needy students, already benefiting numerous pupils, was also praised.

Amin Adam acknowledged the community’s support, stating: “Karaga is my home; I made a commitment to bring change and fulfilled that promise.” He pledged continued efforts to address constituency challenges, framing the developments as foundational for sustained growth.

What were they expecting her to come with? – Ama Pratt slams critics over veep’s travel in ‘Chartered Flight’

Ama Pratt , Press Secretary and Spokesperson to the Vice President

The Press Secretary and Spokesperson to the Vice President, Ama Pratt, has dismissed allegations that Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang chartered a private jet to return to Ghana from the United Kingdom, describing the criticism as misplaced and irrelevant.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem show, Ama Pratt said there is no evidence to support the claim and questioned the motive behind such discussions.

“I’m not even sure she came with a private jet. All we know is that the usual travel arrangements were made for her. I can’t confirm whether a private jet was involved or not. And it’s not every bit of information I can come out and speak about publicly,” she said.

She pointed out that the Vice President had been unwell and was on medical leave in the UK.

But now that she has returned, the focus should be on her recovery, not what flight she used.

“At the end of the day, the Vice President of this Republic was sick. By God’s grace, she is now fine. And the conversation people are having is about the kind of flight she used to return? How is that even a conversation?” she quizzed.

Reacting directly to criticism from the NPP’s Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, who accused the Vice President of using a chartered private flight, Ama Pratt said the focus should be on her health and service to the country.

“We all have mothers. My mother was sick last year, but she’s a private person. Naana Jane is not just anybody, she’s our Vice President. The same critics whose government wanted aircrafts they could take baths in now have a problem with her return flight?”

She added, “I’m surprised people are offended that our mother was sick, used a flight that doesn’t even have a bath in it, and returned home to serve. What did they expect her to come with?”

Ama Pratt concluded by stressing that unless there is clear evidence that nothing is wrong with the current presidential jet, there is no basis for the criticism.

“It’s irrelevant until they can prove there’s something wrong with the official presidential aircraft. Right now, we should all just be thankful that our Vice President is well and back home.”

Arrest Politicians, Chiefs behind galamsey – House of Chiefs President to Security

0

The President of the National House of Chiefs, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, has called on national security to arrest politicians and chiefs involved in illegal mining, describing them as key culprits behind the country’s worsening galamsey crisis.

Speaking during a meeting with the National Security Coordinator on Friday, August 1, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II alleged that individuals arrested for illegal mining often cite the involvement of political figures.

“We need to be involved in fighting the galamsey and the destruction of the water bodies. We all know that the galamseyers, when you arrest them, they tell you that they are from Jubilee House,” he said.

He further claimed that the issue has persisted across successive administrations.

“It started from the past government and now the current government. Let us come together and fight it. Those arrested should be sanctioned and make sure they don’t destroy our water bodies,” he added.

Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II also accused some traditional leaders of complicity in the illegal mining trade and urged them to desist from the practice.

The petition, submitted by John Antwi Bosiako, News Editor at OTEC FM, a private radio station in Kumasi, proposes that political parties be allowed to nominate replacement MPs without triggering a by-election, provided the outgoing MP was elected on a party ticket.
