Accra, July 03, GNA— The New Patriotic Party Minority Caucus in Parliament has welcomed Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s historic visit to the country.
Mr Modi’s visit marks the first time in over three decades that a sitting Indian Prime Minister has set foot on Ghanaian soil.
In a statement signed by Minority Leader Mr Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin and issued to the Ghana News Agency on Thursday, the Caucus applauded the partnership between Ghana and India, highlighting India’s invaluable contributions to Ghana’s development in education, trade, technology, healthcare, and human resource capacity-building.
“We in the minority caucus applaud this partnership and reiterate our commitment to furthering it, guided by mutual respect, shared values, and strategic cooperation,” it said.
It urged both governments to institutionalize the Ghana-India partnership through stronger parliamentary diplomacy, including the establishment of a Ghana-India Parliamentary Friendship Association.
It also called for partnerships rooted in local job creation, knowledge transfer, industrialization, and inclusive growth.
The statement cited a notable example of Indian-Ghanaian collaboration: the construction of sub-Saharan Africa’s first tissue factory using wood pulp as raw material in the Effutu constituency.
“This $31 million private investment, initiated in July 2023 and set for commissioning by October 2025, will produce 22,000 metric tons of jumbo tissue rolls annually and create over 200 direct jobs,” it said.
The Minority Caucus pledged its full support for strengthening Ghana-India relations and stood ready to deepen the bond between the two nations for the benefit of future generations.
It quoted Minority Leader Osahen Afenyo-Markin as saying, “Akwaaba, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, welcoming PM Modi to Ghana and expressing enthusiasm for the growing partnership between the two countries.”
President John Dramani Mahama has called on the newly appointed justices of the Supreme Court to go beyond procedural technicalities and focus on delivering real and accessible justice to Ghanaians.
Speaking at the official swearing-in ceremony held at the Jubilee House on Thursday, July 3, President Mahama urged the seven new justices to see their appointments as a moral and constitutional responsibility that transcends legal interpretation.
“You’re expected to serve not as arbiters of technicalities, but as stewards of justice and conscience,” the President stated. “Yours is not only a legal role, but a moral responsibility to safeguard our constitution’s spirit and interpret it in ways that advance the common good and protect the most vulnerable in our society.”
He reminded the justices of the solemn oath they had taken and encouraged them to uphold integrity, fairness, and impartiality in their rulings.
Describing their appointments as “a high constitutional trust,” the President said the moment marked not only personal achievement but a reflection of national aspirations in a period of governance renewal.
“All of you come onto the Supreme Court with vast experience and a solid knowledge of the law, and are deserving of this high office,” he stated.
President Mahama highlighted the Supreme Court’s role as the final custodian of the law, the guardian of democracy, and the protector of citizens’ rights and freedoms.
“It is to this court that people turn when their freedoms are threatened, when justice seems distant, or when the complexities of modern governance test the Constitution,” he said.

Also,January 2025, the government paid US$349.52 million. And now, in July 2025, a further US$349.52 million has been paid. This brings Ghana fully up to date on all scheduled Eurobond debt service.
Looking ahead to 2026, the statement added that a total debt service of US$1,409.06 million is scheduled, while indicating that it will ensure prudent debt management, and constructive engagement with external creditors.
“This timely payment reaffirms Ghana’s commitment to macroeconomic stability. It is expected to positively influence Ghana’s credit ratings trajectory in the months ahead, as it demonstrates continued discipline in debt servicing post-restructuring.

Executive Director of CenPOA, Michael Donyina Mensah
The Center for Public Opinion and Awareness (CenPOA), a non-partisan, non-governmental civil society organization, has petitioned the presidency, calling for Dr Hanna Bissiw-Kotei, the Administrator of the Minerals Development Fund (MDF), to be called to order.
CenPOA, in its petition, stated that Dr Bissiw-Kotei is overstepping her authority.
The NGO indicated that although it was in full support of the fight against illegal mining, the recent activities of Dr Bissiw-Kotei represent a serious overreach of her lawful mandate.
The petition, which was under the signature of Michael Donyina Mensah, the Executive Director, said: “It has come to our notice that Dr Bissiw has been personally visiting mining communities and reportedly issuing threats, carrying out arrests, and confronting individuals suspected to be engaged in illegal mining. While CenPOA is fully in support of the government’s commitment to fighting illegal mining (galamsey), we believe strongly that such actions by the Administrator of the MDF represent a serious overreach of her lawful mandate.”
The petition stressed there is nowhere in the law that grants the administrator of the MDF the authority to storm illegal mining sites and arrest illegal miners or seize their equipment.
“The Minerals Development Fund, by statute, is primarily tasked with managing and disbursing royalties to support development in mining communities. Nowhere in the law is the MDF or its leadership empowered to engage in law enforcement activities, including arrests or operational field confrontations. That responsibility squarely lies with the Minerals Commission, the Ghana Police Service, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and relevant task forces such as Operation Halt II.”

His statement drew applause from supporters who see Paappa’s confidence as a reflection of the evolving perception of success within the gospel music industry.

KATH has refuted reports suggesting that a young doctor at the facility caused a patient’s paralysis
The management of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has refuted media reports suggesting that a young doctor at the facility caused a man to become paralysed following a medical procedure.
In a statement dated June 30, 2025, KATH described the report as misleading.
“Management wishes to state that the allegation is completely unfounded and that the complainant’s current condition was not and could not have been caused by a procedure performed on him at the hospital. The insinuation that an “intern” performed the said procedure during his visit to the hospital is equally false”, it noted.
The hospital clarified that medical records reveal the patient’s current state is due to complications from a chronic medical condition he has been living with since birth.
The patient, they explained, requires a hip-replacement surgery, and the need for such has been communicated to him multiple times by experienced specialists.
“From the records, the condition of the said patient is purely the result of a well-recognised complication of a chronic medical condition he has been living with since birth for which he will need a hip-replacement surgery.
“This has already been explained to him in a number of engagements with seasoned specialists under the facilitation of the Complaints Section of the Quality Assurance Unit of the hospital”, it noted.
KATH further underscored its commitment to providing the best possible care to all clients but insisted that it will also defend its reputation and that of its staff.
“We will not hesitate to take the appropriate steps in the protection of same in case of unjustified attacks,” the statement added.

Sammy Gyamfi is the Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod
The Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi has confirmed that the GoldBod transacts gold at black market dollar rates.
News emerged online of the GoldBod illegally transacting at black market rates, leading to backlash against the GoldBod but this was said to untrue.
However, the GoldBod CEO, Sammy Gyamfi, reacting to the issue on X, in response to concerns raised by IMANI Vice President, Bright Simons, confirmed that indeed that GoldBod has within the past two weeks m traded with the illegal black market rates but argued this is to check competition from gold smugglers.
“Gold has always been bought in the local Ghanaian market based on the informal retail forex rate, popularly called, “Black Market” rate since time immemorial,” Sammy Gyamfi responded.
The GoldBod CEO further explained why his outfit decided not to trade with the approved central bank rate.
“When I assumed office as Ag. MD of the PMMC on 22nd January, 2025, gold was being bought by all market players including public and private entities at a “black market rate” of about GHS16.”
“By April 2025, the GoldBod had succeeded in bringing the local buying rate to interbank levels. We managed to sustain local prices at interbank levels for about two months.
“However, due to lack of permanent market regulatory systems, the GoldBod was in the last 2 weeks of June 2025, compelled to raise its buying rate to “black market” levels. This was to deal with extreme competition from smugglers and hoarders who were taking undue advantage of the wide disparity between the interbank rate (GHS10.3) and the black market rate (over GHS12),” he added.
With increasing backlash from the general public, Sammy Gyamfi assured that the GoldBod will no longer trade at black market rate and will revert to the Bank of Ghana rate.
Founder of Heaven Way Ministries International, Patricia Asiedua, widely known as Nana Agradaa, has finally broken her silence after being handed a 15-year jail sentence by an Accra Circuit Court.
The controversial self-styled evangelist was convicted on multiple counts of defrauding by false pretence and charlatanic advertisement.
She was found guilty of convincing members of her church to hand over large sums of money with the promise of spiritual rewards and financial breakthroughs.
While being escorted out of the courtroom after the verdict, Agradaa addressed a group of reporters in a brief but striking comment directed at her followers.
All she managed to say was for her followers to never cease praying.
Agradaa exhibited calm confidence, appearing emotionally composed despite the heavy sentence that awaits her.
Her husband, Mr Eric Oduro Assiamah, has since spoken out in protest, describing the ruling as unfair.
According to him, the money offered by the victims was voluntary and part of regular religious contributions.
“Don’t church members pay tithe and offering? There is no church that doesn’t accept money. These are some of the cons of doing God’s work. Physically, it’s difficult, but we look up to God.”
Mr Assiamah maintains that his wife never forced anyone to give money and believes the court misjudged the intent behind her actions.
Her sentencing has triggered mixed reactions across the country, with some calling it justice served and others defending her as a victim of religious persecution.
Agradaa is expected to begin serving her 15-year sentence immediately.
CDD-Ghana warns Electoral Commission against inconsistency in handling election disputes, citing trust and transparency concerns over Ablekuma North rerun.
The Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to demonstrate consistency and fairness in resolving electoral disputes.
This comes after the EC announced a rerun of the parliamentary election in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency, scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2025.
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has disclosed that the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is currently falling short of its monthly revenue collection target, despite recent reforms aimed at improving revenue efficiency and combating illegal electricity connections.
Answering an urgent question posed by Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, on behalf of the Minority Leader in Parliament yesterday, the Minister said ECG collected GH¢1.6 billion in revenue as of the end of June 2025 – well below the targeted GH¢2.5 billion for the month.
“This represents a remarkable improvement compared to the same period last year,” Mr. Jinapor stated and added, “but we are still not meeting the full target.”
He attributed the revenue challenges partly to illegal electricity connections and commercial losses, which the Ministry and ECG are aggressively tackling through a comprehensive Loss Reduction Programme.
Reforms Underway
Under this initiative, he said ECG had installed 1.2 million smart meter management systems and plans to deploy an additional 2 million meters between 2025 and 2029.
According to him, an extra 1 million meters are also being rolled out in partnership with the World Bank, indicating that these smart meters are expected to ensure accurate billing and real-time tracking of consumption, thereby reducing losses.
Despite these technological improvements, Mr. Jinapor cautioned that the use of smart meters alone does not guarantee reduced losses. “There are still human elements that affect performance, so we’re also strengthening enforcement and accountability,” he added.
Enforcement Measures
The Minister said the ECG had constituted special task forces to identify and prosecute individuals and institutions involved in power theft. He confirmed that estates have been busted for illegal connections, with offenders currently being prosecuted.
To strengthen deterrence, Mr. Jinapor indicated that the Energy Ministry is working on a Legislative Instrument (L.I.) to be submitted to Parliament, which will impose stiffer penalties on those who tamper with or install illegal meters.
Cabinet Directives
As part of revenue recovery, he said Cabinet had directed that all government agencies be placed on prepayment meters or enter into monthly billing agreements with ECG.
According to him, only four categories of institutions – the Presidency, Police Service, Military, Education, and Health sectors – are exempted from prepayment but are still required to pay for power consumed.
Path Forward
The Minister pledged continued support to ECG and called for broader collaboration across government and Parliament. “Cabinet has taken a strong decision. It’s now up to all of us to work together to ensure ECG recovers its revenue and continues to provide reliable power,” he said.
He expressed confidence that the combined reforms, technology deployment, enforcement actions, and stakeholder support will eventually lead to significant improvements in revenue collection, reduced energy losses, and overall efficiency in Ghana’s power distribution sector.
Eric Oduro Asiamah, husband of Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, founder of Heaven Way Champion Ministries International Church, has expressed disappointment over her 15-year jail sentence.
He described the sentence as unfair and questioned whether church members do not pay offerings.
The Accra Circuit Court sentenced Agradaa on Thursday, July 3, 2025, after finding her guilty of charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretences.
Nana Agradaa was convicted of luring victims through a 2022 televised broadcast where she falsely claimed to possess spiritual powers to double money.
The presiding judge, Her Honour Evelyn Asamoah, ruled that Agradaa skillfully executed the crime.
Speaking to journalists after the ruling, Mr. Asiamah argued that the victims willingly gave the money and stressed that it is normal for churches to receive financial contributions.
“Don’t church members pay tithe and offering? There is no church that doesn’t accept money. These are some of the cons of doing God’s work. Physically, it’s difficult, but we look up to God,” he said.
Agradaa is expected to begin serving her sentence immediately, though reports indicate her lawyers plan to file an appeal.

Top executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Wednesday thronged the headquarters of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), calling for the immediate release of former Buffer Stock CEO, Alhaji Abdul-Wahab Hannan.
This follows growing agitation among party supporters over his continued detention despite being granted a GHS60 million bail.
Founder of the Heaven Way Champion International Ministry at Weija, Patricia Asiedua, also known as Agradaa has been sentenced to 15 years in prison in hard labour by the Accra Circuit Court.
This was after the court presided over by Evelyn Asamoah found her guilty on multiple counts of defrauding by false pretence and charlatanic advertisements in newspapers.
The self-styled evangelist used her church to defraud members of the public under the guise of “money doubling.”
Before passing sentence, the judge ordered that pregnancy test be conducted on her.
Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police(ASP) Emmanuel Haligah told the court that on October 10, 2022, the complainants reported to the police that Mrs Asiedua demanded and received money from them under the pretext of giving them various sums of monies in return.
He said upon the receipt of the report, police commenced investigations into the matter which led to the arrest of the convict.
ASP Haligah told the court that investigations established that on October 5, 2022, Asiedua advertised on Today’s Tv and other social media platforms that she was organizing an all-night service on October 7, 2022 at Heaven Way Champions International Ministry where she was going to share an amount of GH300.000.00 to all participants who needed money to fund their business or pay rent.
The court heard that the self-styled evangelist displayed the bundles of money during the advert and encouraged members of the public to attend the service for a share of the money.
The prosecutor stated that investigations also established that due to the said false representation made in the adverts on media platforms, complainants and other members of the public came from all walks of life to attend the said all night service.
ASP Haligah said that during the all-night service, Asiedua directed the congregation to form groups of 20 members and each member was to pay an amount of money ranging from GH 1000.00 and any amount.
“She made the representation that if the first group of 20 could each pay GH 1000.00 each, she would give them GH50,000.00 to share,” ASP Haligah added.
He said the convict continued in that fashion and promised the next group to pay GH900.00 each and get a sum of GH40,000.
The prosecutor told the court that some of the complainants found themselves in the group of 19 paid GH500.00 and more.
ASP Haligah said Asiedua represented to them that she would give that group GH25,000.00 to share.
“Based upon this representation, the complainants parted with various sums of money, Accused after obtaining the monies did not fulfil her promise to give them the sums of money in return and rather left them in the church premises stranded,” the policeman said.
The prosecutor said further investigations established that the self-styled evangelist undertook the charlatanic advertisement with intent to defraud unsuspecting complainants.
He said during interrogations, the convict admitted complainants’ assertions were true.
Ghanaian Kumawood actor Don Little has taken to social media to express his frustration over his struggles in finding a life partner.
In a video shared on X on July 3, 2025, Don Little revealed that although he has successfully built a 10-bedroom house and acquired several properties, his biggest challenge remains finding someone to share his life with.
He lamented that despite living in a spacious home, he is forced to sleep alone.
“This world isn’t balanced because it’s a problem if you don’t have money, and it’s also a problem if you do. I suffered to build this house, but I’m the only person sleeping in this 10-bedroom house.”
“Inside the house, I sleep in only one bedroom. I need a woman to stay with, but I can’t find one. I’ve been searching for some time now, yet I can’t find anyone. My house feels like a cemetery,” he said.
Don Little went further to invite interested women to contact him directly.
“If you’re interested, leave a comment in the comment section. I need a woman to be with. Because in this world, when you don’t have money, it’s a problem. When you have money too, you don’t know who to spend it with,” he added.

GhanaWeb’s “The Gold Market That Fuels Galamsey” documentary, which revealed a thriving black market operating outside official oversight, has generated intense conversations and reactions, including from the John Dramani Mahama government.
Following the broadcast of the exposé, which highlighted the proliferation of unlicensed gold shops in Wassa Akropong in the Western Region, the government has cracked down on illegal gold traders in the area.
The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), which oversees Ghana’s gold trade, in a coordinated operation with National Security, arrested 10 foreign nationals suspected of participating in illegal gold trading in Asankragua in the Western Region.
The suspects were apprehended at a private residence where they were trading without valid licences. Authorities seized 1.3 kg of gold (valued at nearly GH¢1.4 million), an equivalent amount in cash, a pump-action gun, and several alleged money-laundering casino cards.
Addressing the press on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, after the bust, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, stated that the 10 foreigners arrested would be arraigned before court on Thursday, July 3, 2025.
“By tomorrow, they will be arraigned before court. We will be praying the court remands them into custody for further investigations, and it is our hope that we will get a favourable outcome,” he said.
He stated that all persons, including foreigners, caught engaging in illegal gold trade would face full prosecution in accordance with Ghana’s laws.
“We mean business, and this time around, you cannot engage in illegal gold trading and gold smuggling and go scot-free.
“The grace period is over, and we have given countless warnings upon warnings. And so when you are arrested now, there will not be anything like deportation,” he said.

In a press briefing on Thursday, July 3, 2025, he said the country is recording major breakthroughs through intensified surveillance and collaboration among security agencies.
Over the past five months, joint operations led by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA), in partnership with the Ghana Police Service and the National Intelligence Bureau, have resulted in multiple arrests and successful prosecutions.
These cases, the minister said, involved romance scams, child sexual abuse material, financial fraud, recruitment scams, and more.
“In the last five months, we have conducted a number of operations in conjunction with the Ghana Police Service and the National Intelligence Bureau. A number of individuals have been surveilled, arrested, and prosecuted successfully,” Sam George stated.
The key operations include a major cyber fraud bust at Nyamiduya Estates in Tema, where 426 foreign nationals were arrested and over 4,000 phones, 70 laptops, and five firearms were seized.
Another operation in Sogapoke led to the arrest of 11 people involved in recruitment fraud and document forgery.
The minister also revealed that the FBI had sought Ghana’s assistance in locating five suspects tied to cybercrimes involving over $105 million which the CSA successfully identified the individuals using its advanced digital tools.
He assured the public of continued efforts to safeguard Ghana’s digital space and called for collective support in the fight against cybercrime.

Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has called on the NDC government to submit all newly launched policies, including the 24-hour economy initiative, to Parliament for scrutiny, monitoring, and evaluation.
Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, the former Information Minister expressed worry over what he described as a growing trend of the government launching major programmes without presenting the necessary documentation to Parliament.
“This is not the first time the NDC has launched a policy and failed to provide the details to Parliament. We saw it with the One Million Coders programme—they’ve launched it, but no document has been brought to us,” he stated.
The Ranking Member for the Economy and Development Committee also referenced President Mahama’s recent announcement during his tour of the Bono Region that over 2,000 Ghanaians had been selected to travel abroad for work.
“He said they’ve signed a contract to help more than 2,000 Ghanaians travel and work abroad. That’s fine. But where is the document? Parliament hasn’t seen anything to understand the processes involved,” he said.
He said while such initiatives may appear promising, Parliament must be allowed to perform its oversight role.
“You can’t keep launching programmes and avoid accountability. After every launch, bring the document to Parliament. Let’s evaluate it, ask questions, and monitor progress. That’s how governance works,” he added.
Touching specifically on the 24-hour economy policy, which has now been officially launched, Mr. Nkrumah warned that failure to submit the full policy framework to Parliament could lead to doubts about the government’s transparency.
“This 24-hour economy is very important. But without bringing the full document for monitoring, how can we hold them accountable? They want to avoid scrutiny, and that’s not right,” he said.
He claimed the NDC has so far launched about six key policies since assuming office, but only one has been submitted to Parliament for review.
“They passed the E-Levy at night—no public engagement. They launched the programme and still haven’t brought even a single page explaining what it entails. The National Apprenticeship Programme, the AGRAC Economic Transformation Agenda—same story. Where are the documents?” he queried.
Meanwhile, the newly launched 24-hour economy policy spans 283 pages and provides detailed plans for implementation and funding. It also signals a shift in focus—from merely keeping businesses open around the clock to addressing broader structural challenges in Ghana’s economy.
Mr. Oppong Nkrumah concluded by urging the government not to repeat past mistakes.
“We’re not saying don’t implement your programmes. Just do the right thing and bring them to Parliament. Let’s all work together in the interest of accountability and transparency,” he stressed.

The university reiterated that its dress code policy is clearly outlined in the Student Handbook and aims to instill a corporate culture in students preparing for the professional world.
UPSA reassured the public of its dedication to providing a safe, respectful, and disciplined learning environment for all.

Eric Oduro Asiamah, the husband of Patricia Asiedua, also known as Nana Agradaa, has shared his thoughts after her 15-year prison sentence.
He said the sentence was unfair and questioned why people are ignoring the fact that church members usually give offerings.
Nana Agradaa was sentenced by the Accra Circuit Court on Thursday, July 3, 2025, after being found guilty of using fake advertisements and deceiving people with false promises.
Lawyer for former traditional priestess turned evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, has announced plans to challenge the 15-year jail sentence handed to his client by the Circuit Court in Accra.
Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News on Thursday, July 3, Richard Asare Baffour described the ruling as a miscarriage of justice and revealed that the legal team would file an appeal at the earliest opportunity.
“The good thing is that this judgment is delivered by the Circuit Court. So the appellate court—we will file the necessary processes early Monday morning. We are going to do that early Monday morning,” Baffour said.
Agradaa was sentenced by Her Honour Evelyn Asamoah of Circuit Court 10 to 15 years in prison for two counts of defrauding by false pretences. She was also fined GH¢300 for one count of charlatanic advertisement, with a 30-day custodial sentence in default of payment.
Baffour expressed his disappointment with the court’s decision, citing what he called flawed reasoning behind the ruling.
“We were not expecting this at all but in summary, the judgment delivered by the court today is nothing but a travesty of justice,” he said.
He added: “We say so not because the decision did not go our way. We say so because we are deeply concerned about the reasoning of the court.”
Earlier, Baffour had pleaded for leniency, stressing Agradaa’s role as a mother of five and her remorseful conduct during the trial. However, the court sided with the prosecution, which argued for a stiff penalty to deter similar fraudulent acts.
Agradaa was arrested in October 2022 after advertising a money-doubling scheme during a church event. Her legal team now hopes the appeal will overturn the sentence or reduce the severity of the punishment.

Former United Nations Envoy to West Africa and the Sahel, Dr. Mohammed Ibn Chambas, has underscored the need for urgent investments in cross-border infrastructure and deeper regional unity to preserve the vision and viability of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Speaking at the 2025 Republic Lecture held in Accra on Thursday, July 3, under the theme “ECOWAS and its Survival: Impact of the Alliance of Sahelian States and the Way Forward,” Dr. Chambas stressed that economic integration and citizen-focused development are critical to sustaining ECOWAS.
“In times such as these, unity is our greatest strength. By standing together, we can build a resilient and sustainable subregional community that better serves our states and citizens, building an ECOWAS of the people and a subregion in which its citizens can move freely, engage in trade and investment, with efficient cross-border infrastructure such as roads, railways, energy, and telecommunications,” he said.
He emphasised that the free movement of people, trade, and investments backed by efficient cross-border infrastructure like roads, railways, energy, and telecommunication networks is essential for the region’s growth and cohesion. According to him, these developments will not only foster peace and security but will also contribute to shared prosperity among member states.
Dr. Chambas warned that without strong and deliberate efforts to improve regional connectivity and solidarity, ECOWAS risks weakening further. He pointed to the recent exit of the Alliance of Sahelian States (AES) comprising Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso from ECOWAS as a serious blow to subregional integration.
“These will not only contribute to peace and security, but also to shared prosperity. It will also make ECOWAS a strong pillar in the construction of a united Africa, which our youth today so much cherish. The exit of the AES from ECOWAS threatens this dream of subregional integration,” he said
Minister responsible for Interior, Honourable Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, has revealed a number of measures the government and its agencies will put in place to check the rate of drowning incidents involving students and others in rural areas.
This follows the recent boat incident along the Black Volta Basin that claimed the lives of seven students of Lawra Senior High School (SHS) on June 14.
The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), has condemned the behaviour of a staff member involved in a widely shared social media video showing an altercation with a Level 100 female student.
The incident, which occurred on campus, involved a member of the university’s Dress Code Compliance Team and has attracted significant public attention.
In a statement issued on Thursday, July 3, the university confirmed that the footage had come to its attention and that an investigation was immediately launched to establish the facts.
“The University wishes to emphasise unequivocally that the behaviour of the staff was unacceptable and condemns it outright,” the statement read.
“As a professional university whose core values are integrity, respect, and service, UPSA holds the dignity and well-being of every student as paramount and reaffirms that no staff member has the right to mistreat any student under any circumstances.”
Following the internal investigation, the Vice-Chancellor personally issued an apology to the student involved, reaffirming the University’s commitment to maintaining a respectful and professional environment for all.
Additionally, the staff member at the centre of the incident submitted a written apology to the student, acknowledging the inappropriateness of the behaviour.
In response, the student also wrote to the University Management, expressing regret for her own conduct during the incident.
UPSA Management announced that it is reviewing its current Dress Code enforcement procedures to ensure they align with the institution’s values and prevent future incidents.
“Management is reviewing the Dress Code enforcement protocols to ensure that engagements between staff and students reflect the university’s core values of integrity, respect, and service,” the statement continued.
“Additional training will be provided to the Dress Code Compliance Team to reinforce appropriate conduct while performing their duties.”
The university defended its longstanding dress code policy, stating that it plays a vital role in preparing students for professional environments.
“This policy, which is clearly outlined in the Student Handbook, is not arbitrary or subjective but is designed to instil in students the corporate culture and values expected in professional environments. Every student signs up for the dress code policy.”
The university noted that its culture of professionalism has helped shape many of its alumni who now serve in key roles across various sectors in Ghana.
While the university reiterated its commitment to upholding the dress code, it gave assurance that future enforcement would be carried out respectfully and in line with due process.
“The university assures all stakeholders that enforcement of the same will always be carried out with respect and civility.”
“UPSA remains dedicated to providing a safe, respectful, and professional learning environment for all students and staff. The University appreciates the concerns raised and reassures the public that the incident has been addressed holistically.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing Ghana’s Parliament on Thursday, said the world order created after WWII is changing rapidly, driven by the rise of the Global South and shifting demographics.
“In this changing context, we put emphasis on Africa’s rightful place at the global high table,” Modi said, noting that during India’s G20 presidency, “we worked with the vision-One Earth, One Family, One Future,” which helped secure permanent G20 membership for the African Union.
Calling India the “mother of democracy,” Modi said: “Democracy is not merely a system; it is a part of our fundamental values… India has over 2,500 political parties, 20 different parties governing different states, 22 official languages, thousands of dialects. This is also the reason that people who came to India have always been welcomed with open hearts.”
He said the shared histories of colonialism bind India and Ghana: “Our spirits have always remained free and fearless… Our friendship is sweeter than your famous Sugar Loaf Pineapple.”
On global challenges, Modi noted: “The challenges, such as colonial rule, that humanity has faced in earlier centuries still persist in different forms… climate change, pandemics, terrorism, and cybersecurity. Institutions created in the last century are struggling to respond. We need more than slogans. We need action.”

Agradaa is currently embroiled in multiple legal battles
Ghanaian preacher-turned-evangelist Patricia Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, is currently embroiled in multiple legal battles, even as news of her recent conviction by an Accra Circuit Court continues to dominate headlines.
While many are aware of her conviction for charlatanic advertisement and fraud, there are two additional court cases that continue to add to her mounting legal woes. Here’s a breakdown:
1. Sharing nude photos of a rival prophet
Back in 2021, Agradaa became entangled in a public feud with a prophet identified as Emmanuel Appiah Enim.
What began as a typical exchange of insults on social media escalated dramatically when Agradaa allegedly displayed nude photos of Prophet Enim during a broadcast on Thunder TV (now Today’s TV), a station she owned.
She was arrested in 2022 and charged under Section 67(1) of the Cybersecurity Act (Act 1038) for the non-consensual distribution of intimate images.
The case further intensified in July 2024, when Agradaa appeared in court on additional charges of possessing and distributing indecent material.
According to reports, she not only shared the images on live television but also used them to label a product (a type of bitters), which she then marketed to her church members.
She was granted bail set at GH¢200,000, with the requirement of two justified sureties.
2. Money-doubling fraud case
Also in 2022, Agradaa was arrested again, this time over allegations of fraud involving some members of her church.
According to the complaints, Agradaa advertised on her TV station and social media that she could double the money of those who attended an all-night church service at her Weija-based church.
During the service, she reportedly asked over 1,000 attendees to hand over their money, promising supernatural returns.
However, the promised “money doubling” never happened, leading to widespread outrage and numerous complaints to the police.
She was subsequently charged with charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretences.
On July 3, 2025, an Accra Circuit Court found Agradaa guilty on both counts. Before sentencing, the court ordered a pregnancy test, a common legal procedure to determine appropriate custodial measures for female convicts.
Sentencing is expected once the test results are finalized, and procedural requirements are complete.
Samuel Atta Akyea (L) is the lawyer embattled former NSB boss Kwabena Adu-Boahene (R)
Lawyer for Kwabena Adu-Boahene, the embattled former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Samuel Atta Akyea, has criticised the High Court’s dismissal of a request to access operational account details of National Security Coordinators dating back to 1992.
Speaking to the media after the court’s ruling on July 3, 2025, Atta Akyea, a former Member of Ghana’s Parliament, stated he could not comprehend the court’s decision.
He accused the Attorney General, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, of pressuring the court into making the ruling.
“What is going on in the court is bizarre. As if the Attorney General is dictating to the judge. It’s bizarre. I’ve been here for 32 years. I’ve not seen a situation in which there’s a stampede of a judge,” Atta Akyea fumed.
He elaborated on his accusation, saying, “A judge said, ‘I’m going to give a decision on the 21st’, then the Attorney General in his mood… said, ‘No, let’s come today’. And then it’s very obvious that the judge is not ready. So they tease out something and say that, well, the decision is not ready. The judge actually intimated that he will need time to write a reasoned decision… as if we are doing the Attorney General’s pleasure.”
The former legislator vowed to challenge the court’s ruling, stating, “When I get it (the ruling), I’ll challenge it. That decision is an aberration of justice.”
He also indicated that he would reject any decision for the court to hear his client’s case on a daily basis.
Adu-Boahene and the other accused persons, through their lawyer, had argued that the release of these extensive account details was crucial to ensuring a fair trial.
Their formal request, filed by lead counsel Samuel Atta Akyea, specifically demanded “the various National Security Coordinators’ operational accounts” for all governments from 1992 to date, including those of Presidents Rawlings, Kufuor, Atta Mills, Mahama, and Akufo-Addo.
The lawyer had contended that “the production of these documents is vital to the constitutional right of the accused to a fair trial, particularly in a case where questions about financial oversight and accountability lie at the heart of the allegations.”
The Office of the Attorney General has charged Kwabena Adu-Boahene; his wife, Angela Adjei-Boateng; their associate, Mildred Boateng; and Advantage Solutions Limited, a company jointly owned by Adu-Boahene and his wife, with 11 charges.
They are accused of allegedly transferring GH¢49 million (approximately $7 million) from the bureau’s account to Adu-Boahene’s personal account.

GhanaWeb Special: The gold market that fuels galamsey
The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has clarified public concerns regarding GoldBod’s use of black market foreign exchange (forex) rates in gold transactions.
Recent reports on social media alleged that GoldBod was illegally transacting at black market rates, sparking backlash and concerns about regulatory breaches.
However, Gyamfi has confirmed that while GoldBod recently transacted using the informal forex rate, the practice was neither illegal nor unprecedented in Ghana’s gold market.
Responding to concerns raised by IMANI Vice President Bright Simons on X (formerly Twitter), Gyamfi explained that GoldBod’s use of the black market rate was a strategic intervention to prevent gold smuggling.
“Gold has always been bought in the local Ghanaian market based on the informal retail forex rate, popularly called the ‘black market’ rate, since time immemorial,” Gyamfi clarified.
He explained that when he assumed office as Acting Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) on January 22, 2025, the ‘black market’ rate was the dominant pricing benchmark across the entire gold trading sector, including both public and private entities.
“What GoldBod has sought to do is to change this black market buying rate phenomenon, which is the primary source of forex trading losses by the Bank of Ghana (BoG), MIIF, and other responsible traders, through our market regulatory powers,” he noted.
Gyamfi further disclosed that by April 2025, GoldBod had successfully aligned local gold buying prices with the interbank forex rates, maintaining that balance for nearly two months.
However, in the last two weeks of June 2025, GoldBod was compelled to temporarily revert to black market rates to curb aggressive competition from gold smugglers and hoarders, who were exploiting the significant price gap between the interbank rate (GH¢10.3) and the black market rate (over GH¢12).
“This was necessary to stop smugglers who were draining Ghana’s gold reserves because the official rates made local purchases unattractive to sellers,” Gyamfi explained.
In spite of the concerns, Gyamfi has assured that GoldBod will now fully revert to using the Bank of Ghana’s official interbank rate and is working to permanently stabilise the gold trading market to prevent future distortions.
@BBSimons There are several misconceptions contained in your write-up that are worth clarifying, given the considerable public interest nature of the issues raised.
Respectfully, I will address your concerns, one after the other.

Musical icon Angélique Kidjo has become the first black African performer to be selected for a star on the prestigious Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Kidjo, who comes from the West African country of Benin and has won five Grammy awards, was among the 35 names announced as part of the Walk of Fame’s class of 2026 list.
The 64-year-old was hailed as Africa’s “premier diva” during a press conference announcing the list on Wednesday.
Singer Miley Cyrus, actor Timothée Chalamet, actress Demi Moore and former basketball player Shaquille O’Neal are also among those set to be honoured with a star on Los Angeles’ famous walk.
Kidjo receives the honour after making music for more than four decades and releasing 16 albums.
The songstress has won fans across the world with her commanding voice and ability to fuse West African styles with the likes of funk, jazz and R&B.
Her long list of collaborators includes forces such as Burna Boy, Philip Glass, Sting and Alicia Keys.
Kidjo joins Charlize Theron, a white South African actress, in representing Africa on the Walk of Fame, which comprises more than 2,700 stars.
Theron received her star in 2005.
The date on which Kidjo will see her star unveiled on the Walk of Fame has not yet been announced.
After recipients have been selected for a star, they have two years to schedule induction ceremonies.
Kidjo grew up in Benin, but left for Paris in 1983, citing oppression from the country’s then communist government.
“From the moment the communist regime arrived in Benin, I became aware that the freedom we enjoy can be snatched away in a second,” she told the BBC in 2023.
She said she has been driven by curiosity since childhood, adding: “my nickname was ‘when, why, how?’. I want to understand things, to understand my place in this world.”
Kidjo worked as a backing singer in France before striking out as a solo artist in 1990, with the album Parakou.
She is a Unicef and Oxfam goodwill ambassador, and has her own charity, Batonga, which is dedicated to supporting the education of young girls in Africa.
Popular taxi driver, Afia Schwar has set social media ablaze, stating emphatically that no pastor in Ghana is more powerful than Prophet Ogyaba.
Afia’s comment comes following the “Thanksgiving” which was organised by the incumbent NDC party.
Reacting to it, Afia, in a viral self-recorded video stated that she is yet to understand why men and women of God would involve themselves in politics.
The Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, has cautioned the Minority in Parliament against politicising the Electoral Commission’s decision to rerun parliamentary elections in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency.
His comments follow criticism from the Minority, who have described the EC’s decision as unfair and unjust. The Minority is also calling for the EC to be summoned before Parliament to explain the basis for the rerun.
The EC has cited disputes over the authenticity of the December 7, 2024, election results as the reason for its decision.
Addressing the House on Thursday, July 3, Mr. Ayariga called for calm and objectivity in handling the matter.
“I don’t know why you’re afraid. Why are you afraid? Let us not try to politicise this and say that just because a National Chairman of a political party [Asiedu Nketia] made a statement, the EC is intimidated,” he advised.
Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to seek legal redress to restrain the Electoral Commission from conducting the rerun in the affected polling stations in Ablekuma North.

President John Dramani Mahama has reminded the seven newly sworn-in justices that their commitment to fairness and integrity in dispensing justice will be judged by history, underscoring the immense responsibility they bear in shaping Ghana’s democracy and the rule of law.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony, President Mahama described the occasion as more than a ceremonial function. “It is a beacon of hope in a time where many Ghanaians are yearning for direction and renewal,” he said.
He explained that the event signals a significant reset in Ghana’s governance and institutions, “not only in words, but also in action.” This reset aims to build a nation where institutions function effectively, leadership listens, merit is rewarded, and justice remains impartial.
“We’re building a new Ghana, one where our institutions work, leadership listens, merit is rewarded, and justice is blind—not to truth, but blind to bias,” Mahama said, highlighting the essential role of fairness in sustaining public trust and national stability.
Acknowledging the challenges Ghana faces, he urged courage, competence, conviction, and character as the tools necessary to overcome them. He also called on all Ghanaians, whether in public office or private enterprise, the media or marketplace, courtroom or classroom, to contribute to the country’s progress.
Addressing the justices directly, Mahama said: “The people of Ghana believe in you. The nation stands with you. History will be your judge on how fairly you have dispensed justice and on the firmness of your resolve as you swear your solemn oath today.”
He stressed that their service must be driven by conscience and guided by the Constitution, not by status or popularity. “Let your conscience be your compass. Let the Constitution be your guide, and let the people of Ghana be a constant reminder to you of the power and purpose of the law.”
President Mahama called for justice to prevail in Ghana, invoking blessings on the justices, the judiciary, and the nation. “Let justice reign. May God bless you. May God bless our judiciary, and may God bless our homeland, Ghana.”

The Ministry of Finance has announced that the Government of Ghana has successfully made a Eurobond debt service payment of US$349,523,674.56 through the Bank of Ghana.
In a press release issued on Thursday July 3, the Ministry stated that the payment, made on Wednesday, July 3, 2025, forms part of the government’s commitment to meeting its international debt obligations following the conclusion of the Eurobond debt restructuring in October 2024.
According to the statement, Ghana has now made a total of US$1.17 billion in Eurobond payments since the restructuring deal.
The payments include US$475.60 million in October 2024, marking the first post-restructuring payment, US$349.52 million in January 2025, and US$349.52 million in July 2025.
“This brings Ghana fully up to date on all scheduled Eurobond debt service obligations for 2025,” the Ministry confirmed.
Looking ahead, the government is expected to service US$1.41 billion in Eurobond debt in 2026.
The Finance Ministry emphasised that these timely payments demonstrate Ghana’s continued commitment to macroeconomic stability, sound debt management, and constructive creditor relations.
The government expects the move to strengthen Ghana’s credit ratings, boost investor confidence in its economic recovery programme, and support foreign exchange stability, aligning with the Bank of Ghana’s reserve and liquidity strategies.
The Ministry reiterated that Ghana remains dedicated to transparent and responsible debt servicing practices as it works toward long-term financial and economic stability.

Comedian Acapella has taken a swipe at politician, Omoyele Sowore after he launched a barrage of corruption allegations against prominent political figures in Nigeria, including President Bola Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and Labour Party’s Peter Obi.
In a strongly worded post on X (formerly Twitter), Sowore stated, “I did not join Bola Ahmed Tinubu in distributing heroin and cocaine in Chicago. I did not join Atiku Abubakar in looting the Nigerian Customs dry.”
He went on to call out other leaders, including former Senate President David Mark, ex-Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami, former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, and Peter Obi, accusing them of aiding systemic corruption, human rights violations, and economic mismanagement.
Specifically targeting Obi, Sowore wrote, “I did not join Peter Obi at the Tin Can Ports while he cleared goods for Sani Abacha when the same Abacha that was dismantling Nigeria brick by brick.”
The statement sparked an immediate backlash, including from Nigerian comedian Acapella, who took to X to dispute Sowore’s claims about Obi.
“First off, Peter never worked for the Abacha government, you lying unrepentant wanna-be hero,” Acapella wrote.
He clarified that Obi had only helped to decongest the Tin Can Port when business leaders sought relief from severe port congestion during the Abacha regime.
“Obi never received any salary for the few months he helped decongest the port, neither was he documented as an official appointee of the Abacha government,” he said.
Acapella also reminded Sowore of his past political alliances: “Whatever you didn’t do isn’t my concern. The mere fact that you were the chief propagandist in bringing in that disaster Buhari into power in 2015, you have no morals to point who is corrupt and who isn’t.”
Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang yesterday led Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi,on a tour of the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and the Parliament House in Accra.
The visit marked an important moment in the growing friendship between Ghana and India.
The two leaders expressed a strong desire to deepen the relationship between their countries.
Afia Schwarzeneggar swipe at some prominent pastors in Ghana
Popular Ghanaian media personality, Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa, popularly known as Afia Schwarzenegger, has taken a swipe at some prominent pastors in Ghana.
She has labelled these individuals as fake and unnecessarily involved in politics instead of genuinely preaching the word of God.
In a video shared online, Afia claimed that certain famous pastors in the country misuse their influence to do more harm than good.
According to her, these pastors do not properly preach the gospel but rather exploit their status for personal or political agendas.
However, she praised a few of them whom she described as true men of God.
She specifically mentioned Rev. OB, the head pastor of MOGPA Church, and Prophet Ogyaba as examples of religious leaders who focus solely on their spiritual duties.
Afia further commended the Muslim community, particularly Imams, stating that they are consistent in speaking the truth and do not deceive people.
She concluded her statement by advising pastors in Ghana to stay away from politics if they want to earn the respect of the public.
According to her, their primary duty should be preaching the word of God, not meddling in political affairs.

John Abdulai Jinapor is the Minister of Energy and Green Transition
The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has provided an update on the number of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) containers reportedly missing at the Tema Port.
Addressing Parliament on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, Jinapor disclosed that the number of “missing” ECG containers—shipments of cables and other items procured by the company—has now been reduced to 23.
This statement follows a recent announcement by his ministry that over 1,300 containers previously reported missing in March 2025 had been located, leaving only 54 unaccounted for.
The minister informed Parliament that the challenge with locating the containers was due to poor transportation practices under the previous government.
“The first point is that those containers shouldn’t have been purchased in the first instance. That is the first answer to the missing containers. Those containers shouldn’t have been purchased,” he asserted.
“Mr Speaker, the second thing… they were poorly transported. That is why in March 2025, we decided that we wouldn’t adopt that approach again. And so, having adopted this SAP system since March 2025, we are now seeing a remarkable improvement in how the containers are handled,” he added.
Jinapor also stated that the government has directed ECG to only procure critical items moving forward.

Joseph Amoah will join Asante Kotoko according to several reports
Asante Kotoko are on the verge of completing the signing of 21-year-old Joseph Amoah from Legon Cities, according to multiple reports.
The Porcupine Warriors have moved quickly to wrap up the deal, with personal terms expected to be finalised after a medical is completed today.
If all goes smoothly, final documentation will be exchanged between the two clubs within the next 24 hours.
Amoah, who is highly regarded for his energy, defensive intelligence and passing range, can operate both as a left-back and a central midfielder, a versatility that has made him a top target for Kotoko as they rebuild their squad ahead of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.
The youngster was previously in talks with rivals Hearts of Oak, but negotiations broke down, clearing the path for Kotoko to move decisively for his signature.
If confirmed, Amoah will become one of the new additions under the club’s new technical setup led by coach Abdul Karim Zito, as the Reds look to strengthen key positions and mount a strong challenge for the upcoming campaign.

Ghanaian fashion designer Elikem Kumordzie, popularly known as ‘Elikem the Tailor’, has expressed utmost gratitude to his wife, Hajara.
He has described her as a blessing from God and a major source of support in his career.
Speaking in an interview on Coffee Break, shared on Instagram on July 3, 2025, Elikem opened up on the pivotal role Hajara has played in his personal and professional journey.
According to him, Hajara stood by him even during tough times, especially when he faced financial struggles in his business.
“I rented three shops in East Legon at $300 each for a whole year, that’s almost GH¢100,000 just on rent. I appreciated the space, but I couldn’t afford to renew it the following year. I believe God sent Hajara to me,” he shared.
According to Elikem, he has been able to achieve every goal he set for himself.
“Everything I said I was going to do, I have done. I have built a new flagship shop at East Legon. That is where I sell. We were talking about fashion and I said I really wanted to marry, settle down, and have kids and I did that. It was crazy for me because I saw it, did it and it has manifested,” he said.

Dr. Moses K. Atinga, a former NPP First Vice Chairman in the Upper East Region and aspirant for the party’s regional chairmanship, has announced the suspension of all his campaign activities on social media platforms.
This decision comes in solidarity with Hon. Abdul-Wahab Hanan Aludiba, the former Buffer Stock CEO, who has been in the custody of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) for over a week.
President John Dramani Mahama has urged Ghana’s newly sworn-in Supreme Court justices to uphold justice with integrity, principle, and independence, emphasising that their true impact must be felt not in personal opinions, but in the strength of their rulings and the trust they build in the judiciary.
Speaking at the official swearing-in ceremony for seven new justices in Accra, the President reminded the judiciary of its vital role in safeguarding democracy, stability, and public confidence.
“Show leadership through principle, not preference,” he charged. “Let your legacy be measured in volumes of law reports, the lives you touched, the precedents you set, and the public trust that you preserved.”
The President also looked ahead to the upcoming report of Constitutional Review Committee, expected in August, and expressed optimism that its findings will offer bold and practical reforms aimed at making the judiciary more effective and resilient.
“History teaches us that where the judiciary is strong, society is stable. Where the judiciary is impartial, citizens feel secure. And where the judiciary is respected, democracy flourishes,” he said.
He warned against threats that could undermine judicial independence, including political interference, economic manipulation, and public intimidation. According to him, the courts must remain sacred institutions, free from undue influence.
“An independent judiciary is not a threat to government. It is a partner in nation-building,” President Mahama stressed. “We need justices who are not swayed by popularity or pressure, but are anchored in the Constitution and driven by a genuine desire to uphold justice without fear or favour.”
He emphasised that a predictable, principled legal system is not just the foundation of democracy but also essential for attracting investment, driving economic growth, and maintaining national cohesion.
