The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to seek legal redress to restrain the Electoral Commission (EC) from conducting a rerun in some polling stations in the Ablekuma North Constituency.
This follows the EC’s announcement that it will conduct a rerun of the parliamentary election in 19 polling stations within the constituency, citing disputes over the authenticity of the December 7, 2024, election results.
Addressing a press briefing in Accra on July 3, the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua Frimpong, argued that the EC lacks the legal basis to call for a rerun in only selected polling stations and said the party will take the matter to court.
“The NDC knows that they lost the election. We are in the NPP, shall stop at nothing in our quest to ensure that the power that has been respected and upheld by the democratic rights and sovereign will of the people of Ablekuma North, as expressed by them on December 7, 2024, is upheld. Therefore, we have caused our legal directorate to challenge the directive in court. We shall file in court and challenge the whimsical, capricious directive by the EC,” he said.
Ablekuma North Rerun: Full List of 19 affected polling stations
The National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme(DRIP), Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of opposing the Electoral Commission’s decision to rerun parliamentary elections in parts of the Ablekuma North Constituency because they anticipate a likely defeat.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Thursday, July 3, he stated that the NPP’s resistance to the rerun is rooted in fear, despite their claims that Ablekuma North is one of their strongholds.
“The only reason the NPP has taken this position of rejecting the rerun in the 19 polling stations is because they foresee defeat. If the NPP claims these polling stations are their stronghold, then why are they afraid? Let’s grow up, sit down, and follow the EC’s directive. Whoever wins, wins.”
He expressed concern over the prolonged tension, noting that the two female candidates from both parties are bearing the brunt of the political deadlock. “The two ladies are going through emotional stress, and we are not being fair to them. In the interest of peace, national unity, and development, this rerun must happen.”
His remarks come on the back of the Electoral Commission’s announcement that a rerun of the parliamentary election will be conducted in 19 polling stations in Ablekuma North. This follows a protracted disagreement between the NDC and the NPP over the credibility of results from the December 7, 2024, general election.
In a statement issued on July 2 and signed by Deputy Chairman of Operations, Samuel Tettey, the EC said the decision was reached after a July 1 meeting with both parties. The rerun is scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2025.
The NDC had raised concerns about the use of scanned Pink Sheets from 37 polling stations, alleging they lacked proper verification and were suspiciously submitted by the NPP. The party demanded a complete rerun in those polling stations.
In contrast, the NPP insisted that results from only three polling stations remained outstanding, arguing that all other scanned Pink Sheets had been verified by agents from both parties before the collation process was disrupted.
On the part of the Election Management Body(EMB), the scanned Pink Sheets were used after the original documents were destroyed when party supporters invaded the collation centre. As a result, a partial rerun in the 19 most contentious polling stations was deemed necessary to uphold electoral integrity.
Meanwhile, the Commission has assured the public of a fair, transparent, and credible process. The Ghana Police Service has also been tasked with providing security to maintain law and order on the day of the rerun.
Mr. Vanderpuye emphasised that the rerun will not drastically alter the composition of Parliament, where the NDC currently holds the majority.
“That one seat won’t change anything in Parliament for the NPP or the NDC. Let’s prioritise peace and fairness.”
ASOKWA Jayz was only 17 years old when he recorded a song in a proper studio for the first time. It was in a tiny room behind a barbershop in Madina.
The walls were padded with egg cartons, the mic had seen better days, and the producer doubled as a barber. But the moment Asokwa Jayz laid down his vocals—raw, fiery, hopeful—everyone in the room went quiet. They knew they’d just heard something special.
Fast-forward three years. Asokwa Jayz’s song goes viral on TikTok. He’s booking gigs in Accra, getting calls from Nigeria, and his name is bubbling in conversations about the “next big thing.” Yet behind the applause, he’s struggling—no label, no legal support, no royalties from the radio plays he hears in every trotro.
It’s a familiar story. One that plays out across Ghana again and again, from Ho to Tamale, Cape Coast to Kumasi. Talented artistes, rich sounds, contagious rhythms… all hitting the same invisible wall.
So the question is: where is the government in all this?
The Quiet in the Background
For a nation that thumps to the beat of music, Ghana’s public institutions have been oddly off-beat when it comes to nurturing the industry. Sure, they show up for the front row at concerts, issue the occasional press release, or even organise a flashy arts summit or two. But for artistes such as Asokwa Jayz, real support—the kind that matters—is scarce.
Ask anyone in the industry and you’ll hear the same complaints: broken copyright systems, laughable royalty structures, and no serious public investment in infrastructure or talent development. Asokwa Jayz, for example, found out the hard way that registering his songs meant navigating a bureaucratic maze with all the speed and grace of a sleeping tortoise.
Yes, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture has its hands in the pot. Yes, the Year of Return and its cousins brought global eyes to Ghana. But did those initiatives build studios in Wa? Train producers in Koforidua? Create pipelines for artistes to move from Instagram freestyles to international stages? (Read Sean “Diddy” Combs acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering, convicted on prostitution-related counts)
Not quite.
A Missed Beat
There’s an old saying: talent is universal, but opportunity is not. And in Ghana, the opportunity gap is glaring. Most musicians build their careers DIY-style—recording with borrowed mics, promoting with prayer, and monetising with a dash of miracle.
The government has yet to provide what every thriving creative economy needs: infrastructure, education, data, legal protection, and funding. There’s no national platform tracking industry stats. No central support hub where artistes can access grants, legal aid, or mentorship. No plan to ensure music education goes beyond teaching kids to bang on drums in P.E.
If you want to see what’s possible, look to places like South Korea or Nigeria. Governments there realised early that music is more than art—it’s an export, a brand, a national treasure. In Ghana, though, we still treat it like background noise to “more serious” sectors.
But what could happen if we changed the tune?
Rewriting the Song
Imagine this: a Ghana where every region has a fully equipped music hub—soundproof studios, editing suites, and spaces to learn the business of music. A Ghana where high schools offer courses in songwriting, music tech, and sound engineering. A Ghana where the Copyright Office works like it’s 2025, not 1995.
Artistes would get paid what they’re owed. Young talents like Asokwa Jayz could turn their viral moments into long-term careers. Music festivals across the country would thrive with government backing, and international collaborations would become routine, not rare.
The government wouldn’t even need to take centre stage. Just play the role of a savvy producer—setting the stage, managing the logistics, and letting the stars shine. Tax incentives for creative investors. Scholarships for music students. Export schemes to put Ghanaian sounds on Spotify playlists from Brooklyn to Brisbane.
It’s all possible. But only if the government decides that music isn’t a side hustle—it’s a sector. One with the power to create jobs, grow GDP, and elevate Ghana’s global identity.
What the Government Should Be Doing (Hint: Not Just Clapping from the Stands)
It’s high time the government stopped playing hype man and started acting like the producer.
1. Legislative Overhaul: Modernise copyright and royalty systems to ensure artistes are paid fairly and consistently. Introduce tax incentives for investors in the creative space.
2. Creative Arts Fund (with Teeth): Establish a robust, transparent, and professionally managed fund to support music projects—from up-and-coming acts to regional music festivals.
3. Music Education Pipeline: Partner with schools and universities to formalise music education. Teach not just performance, but also the business and tech sides of the industry.
4. Public-Private Partnerships: The government doesn’t need to do it all alone. Create frameworks for private investment in the music industry—think music tech hubs, export programmes, and accelerator schemes.
5. Cultural Diplomacy: Support Ghanaian artistes to tour and collaborate abroad. If K-Pop can conquer continents, why not G-Pop?
The Final Chorus
Asokwa Jayz’s latest single just hit one million streams. He’s still navigating things on his own, still waiting for a royalty check, still wondering if it’s all sustainable. He’s got the talent. The passion. The drive. What he—and thousands like him—need now is a government that listens, not just when the beat drops, but when the industry calls. Because music in Ghana isn’t just entertainment—it’s our voice, our legacy, and our future.
Ghana’s music industry does not require charity—it requires strategy. The talent is present, the demand is growing, and the cultural value is indisputable. What remains is for the government to recognise music as a formal industry worthy of investment, regulation, and policy attention.
For Asokwa Jayz, and thousands of others like him, the future hinges not just on talent, but on whether our institutions are ready to build the scaffolding for success.
In policymaking circles, we often speak of “low-hanging fruit.” The music industry is that fruit—ripe, resilient, and ready. But someone has to reach for it.

Ghana has witnessed the highest diplomatic disrespect of the highest order committed by GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi and Dr. Hannah Bissiw one that risks not only derailing international diplomacy but also perpetuating a dangerous narrative that scapegoats foreign nationals, particularly Chinese citizens, for a deeply rooted local problem.
The recent arrests of 10 Chinese nationals by “GoldBod Taskforce” led by Sammy Gyamfi in Asankragua is a textbook example of how state institutions are increasingly resorting to populist showmanship rather than lawful, diplomatic, and strategic enforcement.
This is brewing nothing but unnecessary fear and panic.
Does it mean Ghana wants all Chinese out of their country as it stands??
Let’s be clear: the environmental devastation caused by galamsey is real, and it must be addressed.
But we must also ask: on what legal authority does GoldBod, a taskforce whose operational basis is shrouded in ambiguity , conduct arrests, seize property, and parade foreign nationals in press conferences?
Is GoldBod now an extension of the BNI? National Security? EOCO? Or has it become a freelance vigilante outfit operating under the guise of patriotism?
The Dangerous Optics of Media Trials
Sammy Gyamfi, a lawyer and the Communications Officer of the opposition NDC, has positioned himself as some kind of law enforcement czar.
He paraded arrested Chinese nationals before the media with damning claims of gold smuggling, money laundering, and illegal residency, all without trial, legal representation, or confirmation of due process.
Since when did Ghana start prosecuting people in the court of public opinion?
Whatever happened to the presumption of innocence?
The optics are not only reckless they’re diplomatically damaging.
The failure to even engage the Chinese Embassy before such drastic action is a gross disregard for international norms.
Ghana’s government cannot, on one hand, beg Beijing for debt restructuring and infrastructure aid, and on the other, allow populist figures to harass and humiliate Chinese nationals without due process.
These are people who were arrested at the Chinese Market doing genuine Casino business and the facts should not be twisted in any way.
Foreigners as Convenient Scapegoats
The recurring theme is clear: Ghanaian officials are far more comfortable going after visible, foreign faces than dealing with the entrenched local collaborators.
Let’s not pretend Chinese nationals flew into Ghana, chartered excavators, and found mining concessions all on their own.
They are brought in, often misled and licensed by local middlemen and facilitators many with links to the Minerals Commission.
Why are these facilitators never exposed?
Who at the Minerals Commission
continues to grant or look away from illicit permits? Who helps these so-called illegal miners acquire land, equipment, and transportation in rural Ghana?
Instead of addressing these questions, we focus on low-hanging fruit migrant Chinese workers, most of whom are acting under the assumption that their business is licensed and legitimate.
The Chinese Ambassador, Tong Defa, has rightly pointed out that these nationals are not the root of the crisis. Rather, they are exploited participants in a system run by Ghanaians.
The Broader Diplomatic Context
It is the height of irony that just last week, Finance Minister Dr. Ato Forson was in China negotiating for debt restructuring a lifeline for Ghana’s struggling economy.
Yet, even as our leaders court Chinese goodwill in Beijing, we persecute their citizens in Ghana with little regard for protocol, diplomacy, or consistency. If this isn’t hypocrisy, what is?
How are we expecting fruitful bilateral outcomes when the message we send is that Chinese nationals are safe only when their money is needed?
What’s worse, even Chinese businesses engaged in clean, legal, and well-regulated ventures are now vulnerable to harassment, suspicion, and arbitrary raids. Who speaks for them?
So where is National Security Boss Richard Jakpa, Commander Abu of the Anti-Galamsey Taskforce, as well as Commander Usman in all of these?
A Selective and Politicized Crackdown?
Sammy Gyamfi’s recent stunts raise even more uncomfortable questions.
Who gave him the mandate to storm private homes and declare foreign residents criminals?
Why is there no official oversight or statement from the Attorney General, Interior Minister, or National Security Minister?
And why this sudden interest in targeting Chinese nationals, especially after another public spectacle just days earlier involving Hannah Bissiw’s accusations?
Is this part of a broader, politicized campaign against Chinese presence in Ghana?
Is it a deflection from the government’s own complicity in failing to properly regulate the mining sector?
Unanswered Questions for GoldBod and the Government
• What legal mandate does GoldBod have to operate as a law enforcement body?
• Why was the local police at Asankragua not involved in the operations?
• Were search and arrest warrants obtained before raiding private residences?
• Why was the Chinese Embassy not notified before the arrests were publicized?
• Who are the Ghanaian business partners and facilitators of the arrested Chinese?
• Why are Minerals Commission officials still issuing or overlooking illegal licenses?
• What protections exist for foreign investors operating within the law?
Conclusion
The fight against illegal mining must be strategic, holistic, and lawful
, not performative and xenophobic.
While environmental protection is non-negotiable, it must not come at the cost of turning Ghana into a hostile ground for diplomatic partners.
If this continues, the damage to Ghana’s international reputation, investor confidence, and foreign relations — especially with China — will far outweigh any temporary political points scored through media parades and populist press conferences.
We must stop treating foreign nationals as pawns in our domestic political games.
The true enemies of the state are not those in foreign passports, but those in local offices who feed off the chaos and corruption in the mining sector.
They must be exposed, prosecuted, and removed — not hidden behind a smokescreen of nationalist chest-beating.
Justice, not sensationalism, must drive the fight against galamsey.
Kuami Eugene responds to Archipalago’s recent claims
Ghanaian musician Kuami Eugene has spoken after being accused of disrespect by US-based Ghanaian socialite Archipalago.
Explaining his side of the story during an interview on Hitz FM on July 2, 2025, Archipalago claimed that Kuami Eugene refused to speak to him over the phone when he reached out through a radio presenter.
“I only called to talk about a possible collaboration, but his attitude was very disrespectful. If he doesn’t want to talk, that’s fine. But he shouldn’t act like he’s above everyone,” Archipalago said.
Responding to the allegations, Kuami Eugene said the whole incident was misunderstood.
He explained that the situation did not happen the way Archipalago described it.
“After the interview, I was going back to my hotel, and the presenter said I should drop her off on the way. While we were going to drop her off, Archipalago called her to say that he heard I was in the studio, and that he had a song he wanted to do with me so she should give the phone to me so he talks to me. And I said I wouldn’t talk to him,” Kuami Eugene recounted.
He said at the time, he was already speaking to his mother on the phone and did not feel it was right to end that call just to speak to someone unexpectedly.
“He wanted me to cut the call with my mum and talk to him. And I said I wouldn’t do that. The lady even told him I was doing something so I would call back. I don’t know if he didn’t hear that well,” Kuami Eugene said.
Kuami Eugene also revealed that after the incident, Archipalago went online and began ranting about it on social media, which made things worse.
“Since then anytime he hears my issue he is angry. I pray he doesn’t get heart attack,” Kuami Eugene added.
The culprit seen in the picture wearing police uniform
The Ghana Police Service has apprehended a middle-aged man for unlawfully possessing and wearing a police uniform.
According to a police statement issued on Thursday, July 3, 2025, the suspect identified as Osei Kwame, alias ‘Nsafufoo,’ was arrested at Antoakrom in the Manso Nkwanta District of the Ashanti Region, where he is believed to reside.
Antoakrom is a town within the Amansie West District, known for its agricultural economy and some mining activities.
The police stated that the suspect is currently in custody and assisting with investigations.
“The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man identified as Osei Kwame, alias ‘Nsafufoo’, at Antoakrom in the Manso Nkwanta District of the Ashanti Region for unlawfully possessing a police uniform and wearing a police uniform without authority. The suspect was seen in a viral video appearing intoxicated in police uniform. He is currently in police custody assisting investigation,” the statement read.
The arrest followed significant public outcry after viral videos surfaced on social media earlier this week.
The footage showed the suspect, visibly intoxicated, while dressed in a police uniform and being harassed by a group of youths.
The incident sparked widespread calls for police action and renewed demands for professionalism and discipline within the service, especially as many initially assumed he was an actual police officer.
The unlawful wearing of military or police uniforms by civilians is a serious offense in Ghana, covered under the Restriction on Use of Military Uniforms and Equipment Act of 1967 (NLCD 177).
This law stipulates that no person shall wear or use any military (which includes police) uniform or accoutrements unless duly authorized.
Violators can face fines or imprisonment.
This incident underscores the Ghana Police Service’s commitment to upholding the integrity of its uniform and maintaining public trust.

The Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, is delivering a second-quarter sector update.
This was announced by the Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, via his official X account on Thursday, July 3, 2025.
“Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Hon Samuel Nartey George, will present a second quarter review of the sector in a short while. Don’t miss it,” his post read.
Ahead of the briefing, Ghanaians observed notable changes in data bundle offerings by major telecom operators on July 1, 2025, as earlier promised by Sam George.
The price reductions followed widespread public complaints about the high cost of internet services and are intended to deliver better value to consumers.
AT and Telecel have both increased data volumes by 10% across all bundles, while MTN raised its allocations by 15%.
For example, MTN’s GH¢399 package now offers 214GB, up from the previous 92.88GB.
AT’s GH¢400 package offers 236GB, up from 195GB, while Telecel has raised its GH¢400 bundle to 250GB, a substantial increase from the previous 190GB.
The minister is also expected to give updates on key developments, challenges, and achievements within Ghana’s Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation sector during that period.
Diogo Jota’s love story with Rute Cardoso was as steady and genuine as the Portuguese star himself, a bond that started when they were teenagers and carried them through the whirlwind of a top-level football career.
The couple first met in high school back in 2013, years before Jota would light up the Premier League in Wolves colours and later become a fan favourite at Liverpool.
While the world saw Jota’s fierce finishing and tireless pressing on the pitch, those closest to him knew a quieter side, a devoted partner and father who always put his family first.
Rute was his constant. From Porto to Wolverhampton in 2017, then to Liverpool in 2020, she stood by him every step of the way, moving countries, raising their children, and keeping their home life grounded amid the spotlight.
Their relationship was never about flashy headlines. Even Jota’s 2022 proposal was a private lakeside moment, captured only by those who mattered most.
On June 22, 2025, Diogo and Rute sealed their decade-long love story with a beautiful church wedding in Porto, surrounded by close family, friends, and their three young children.
The wedding album they shared online was filled with joy and hope, a beaming bride, a proud groom, and three little ones who completed their world.
Jota’s greatest pride was his family. Their eldest son, Dinis, was born in February 2021, not long after his move to Liverpool. A second son followed in March 2023, and their youngest, a baby girl, arrived in November 2024.
Though Jota’s schedule was packed with matches and travel, he made it a point to be there for every milestone, bringing the kids onto the pitch after big wins, posting sweet glimpses of family life, and cherishing his role as a dad above all else.
When Jota and Rute said “Yes to forever” in June, they could never have imagined forever would be cut heartbreakingly short.
Now, as the football world mourns a brilliant player, it also remembers the devoted husband and father who always found his greatest victories at home.

Nigerian musician 2Face, also known as Innocent Idibia, has sparked fresh discussion after claiming that men are not naturally built to be sexually faithful to just one woman.
Speaking on the 234 Mzansi podcast, hosted by Nedu Wazobia, the 49-year-old singer said that while a man can love and respect one woman, it is “biologically impossible” for him to stay sexually loyal.
“Man is not built to sexually be with one woman,” 2Baba said. “Your heart, love, and respect can be given to one woman, but sexually it is impossible for a man.”
He explained that men are driven by instincts, and that society needs to understand this truth to avoid heartbreak and stress in relationships.
“It’s what has gotten many people into trouble,” he said. “If we accept this simple fact, there will be less heartache.”
2Face also noted that while some men choose to stay faithful, the average man is not “naturally wired” that way. “A man has many seeds and can’t just drop them for one woman,” he added.
His comments come amid renewed interest in his personal life, especially his past relationship with actress Annie Idibia. While he didn’t go into much detail, he confirmed that they are no longer together.
“Annie and I gave it our best. She is amazing, but it just wasn’t working anymore,” he said.
He encouraged couples to be honest about their struggles and not feel pressured to stay in unhappy marriages just to meet society’s expectations.
Former Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Acheampong, has cautioned the Electoral Commission (EC) against yielding to what he describes as political intimidation by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), following the EC’s announcement of a parliamentary rerun in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency.
Reacting to the EC’s latest decision, he questioned whether the Commission had backtracked on its earlier submission to Parliament due to pressure from the NDC, which he said had previously launched scathing attacks on the Commission’s credibility.
“Not too long ago, the Chairman of the National Democratic Congress threatened the EC, saying they were not fit for purpose. So I don’t know if they lost their spine because of that statement, maybe that’s why they’re making a U-turn on their earlier submission to Parliament. I am at a loss, “he said.
His comments come in the wake of the EC’s July 2 press release, signed by Deputy Chairperson of Operations Samuel Tettey, announcing a rerun of the Ablekuma North parliamentary election in 19 polling stations.
The decision followed a meeting between EC officials and representatives of the two major parties, the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the ruling National Democratic Congress.
The controversy stems from the aftermath of the December 7, 2024, general election. The NDC rejected results from 37 polling stations in the constituency, claiming the scanned Pink Sheets used during collation were unverifiable and had been submitted by the NPP. They demanded a complete rerun in all affected stations.
Conversely, the NPP argued that only three polling stations were left to be collated and insisted that the scanned results had been verified by agents of both parties. The EC later clarified that the original Pink Sheets were destroyed after political party supporters stormed the collation centre, necessitating the use of scanned copies.
While the EC has explained that the rerun in 19 polling stations aims to resolve the dispute and restore confidence in the process, critics, including Mr. Acheampong, believe the Commission’s shift in position reflects weakness in the face of political pressure.
“If the NDC decides to walk you out of your office, they are determined, and they will do it no matter what you do. So stand your ground and do the responsible thing.” Acheampong warned.
The rerun is set for Friday, July 11, 2025, with the Commission assuring the public of its commitment to transparency and fairness. The Ghana Police Service has been tasked with maintaining law and order during the process.

The Concern Workers Union of BCM Group has appealed to the government to intervene on their behalf and ensure that they are paid their legally mandated end-of-service benefits by management.
According to the union members numbering about 750, the BCM Group has failed to pay their entitlements to them more than six months after their contracts were terminated by the company, a situation that had led to the suffering of most of the members.
Speaking to The Ghanaian Times in Accra last Wednesday, the Secretary to the Union, Mr Benjamin Asmah, explained that they were employed under a subcontract between BCM Group and Goldfields Ghana, Tarkwa Mines, in the Western Region 2018.
He said in 2018, Goldfields subcontracted BCM to handle all its mining services and as part of the deal, all employees handling mining services were transferred to BCM leading to the individuals signing independent contracts with their new employer.
Mr Asmah again indicated that as part of the contract, it was agreed that Goldfields would make half of the money for the payment of their end-of-service benefits available, while their new employer, BCM, would bear the cost of the extra half.
To this end, each employee was to receive his or her full benefits from BCM, however, the BCM had been dilly dallying with the employees after the end of their contract despite Goldfield fulfilling its side of the bargain.
“As we speak now, Goldfields has assured of its commitment to paying its part of our benefits, however, our challenge is that Goldfields can only do that when that of BCM is ready. Unfortunately, management of BCM seems not ready to honour their side of the contract,” he elaborated.
According to Asmah, all efforts to resolve the matter through engagements with the Labour Commission in the Western Region, the Ghana Mine Workers Union, and the Police Regional Command have yielded no results, as BCM Group has remained unresponsive.
“This is not just about money. This is about justice for the people who have given their health and strength to this company. We are, therefore, calling on the government to enforce the law and compel BCM to fulfill its obligations,” he added.
The dispute stems from 2018, restructuring at Gold Fields Ghana, when the mining company transitioned from owner mining to contract mining and brought in BCM Group and EMP as contractors.
The 750 workers of the Concern Union of BCM Ghana were absorbed under this new arrangement and continued operations under BCM Group until their contracts were terminated.
Ghana’s Labour Act mandates that workers receive end-of-service benefits upon termination, especially in cases involving long-term service.
Furthermore, Mr Asmal added that BCM Group has violated these legal requirements.
When The Ghanaian Times contacted the Ghana Mines Workers Union (GMWU), the Deputy General Secretary of GMWU, Mr Jerry Andoh, on Monday, acknowledged the issue stating that, series of meetings had been done between GMWU and BCM Group in respect to its failure to pay the mandatory end-of-service allowance to its workers.
According to him, the documents presented by BCM Group has proved that, the company is under financial crises and has assured the Union to pay the money which is estimated to $14 million.
Mr Jerry, however, urged the Concern Workers Union of BCM to remain calm as the mother union continue to negotiate with BCM groups to pay the money.
Moreover, the Human Resource Manager of BCM Group, Mr Evans Johnson, when contacted on Monday by phone, he refused to comment on the matter, stating that a meeting had been scheduled to engage with stakeholder on Tuesday about the subject-matter.
As at the time of filing this report, all the necessary steps to contact the managements of Gold Field proved futile.
Solomon Owusu is a former member of the New Patriotic Party
A leading member of the Movement for Change, Solomon Owusu, has asserted that none of the individuals who have declared their intention to be the presidential candidate of his former party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is fit to lead Ghana.
Speaking in an interview on TV3 on Wednesday, July 2, 2027, Owusu contended that NPP flagbearer hopefuls are unsuitable for the presidency due to their actions while the party was in power.
He specifically criticised the Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Dr Bryan Acheampong, who served as the Minister of Food and Agriculture under the NPP government.
Owusu argued that Dr Acheampong’s actions as a minister render him unfit for the highest office.
Owusu alleged that Dr Acheampong sought to acquire state-owned SSNIT hotels, a move that was only prevented by the intervention of Organised Labour.
“None of the frontliners, or those who really want to contest in the NPP primaries, fascinate me. In fact, they really don’t have to go close to power… As we speak, we are owing ECOWAS Buffer Stock 27,000 tons of rice. You were the Minister of Agriculture,” Owusu stated.
“But for the graciousness of the Ghanaian worker, he would have bought my Labadi Beach Resort. If, as a minister, you wanted to buy Labadi Beach Resort, if you become the president of this country, are you not going to sell me? Bryan Acheampong, as a businessman, wanted to buy a state asset. Now he wants to be the president. If he becomes president, won’t he buy everything in the country for himself?” he questioned.

None of the NPP presidential aspirants appear competent; they shouldn’t be anywhere near power. If Bryan Acheampong attempted to acquire state assets as a minister, imagine what he would do as President. – Solomon Owusu#TV3NewDay
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday addressed the Parliament of Ghana during his state visit, drawing applause and smiles when he said that India has over 2,500 political parties. The comment came as part of a broader speech on India’s democratic values and cultural diversity.“India is the mother of democracy. For us, democracy is not merely a system; it is a part of our fundamental values from thousands of years ago,” Modi said. Referring to ancient traditions, he added, “The Rig Veda says: Ano bhadraha kratavo yantu Vishwatah – let good thoughts come to us from all directions. This openness to ideas is the core of democracy.”PM Modi highlighted India’s diversity and said, “India has over 2,500 political parties. I repeat, 2,500 political parties. 20 different parties govern different states. We have 22 official languages and thousands of dialects. This is also the reason that people who came to India have always been welcomed with open hearts.”The moment captured on video showed Ghanaian MPs reacting with smile, surprise and applause at the sheer scale of India’s political plurality.Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi visited the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra and paid floral tribute to Ghana’s founding President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah. Accompanied by Vice President Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, he observed a moment of silence at the mausoleum dedicated to Nkrumah and his wife Fathia.“Dr Nkrumah was a towering figure of Africa’s liberation and unity. This tribute reflects India’s deep respect for Ghana’s history and shared commitment to freedom and justice,” Modi said.During the visit, PM Modi was conferred with The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana, the country’s highest civilian award, by President John Mahama. Calling it a “matter of immense pride,” Modi thanked the government and people of Ghana and dedicated the honour to the youth of both nations.“I humbly accept this award on behalf of 1.4 billion Indians. I dedicate this to the aspirations of our youth, our rich cultural diversity, and the historic ties between India and Ghana,” he said.PM Modi’s visit — the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Ghana in over three decades — marks a significant moment in India-Africa relations. In talks with President Mahama, the two leaders agreed to elevate ties to a Comprehensive Partnership, focusing on trade, education, defence, and digital development.
Musician, Akwaboah, has responded strongly to social media criticism following a photo he shared on his wedding anniversary, which some people used to question his appearance and happiness.
In an interview on Okay FM with Nana Romeo, the “Ensesa” hitmaker explained that he looked tired in the picture because of a tight performance schedule.
According to him, he had traveled to Kwahu for a show, played for an hour, and returned to Accra the same evening without getting proper rest. Despite being exhausted, his wife asked for a photo on their anniversary, and he agreed out of love.
“I told her I was tired, but you know women love these things. So, we took one,” he said.
After posting the photo, some social media users zoomed in on his face and began making jokes, claiming he looked unhappy or even suggested his wife was draining him. Akwaboah expressed disappointment at the comments and labelled them as “foolishness.”
“People said things like, ‘The madam is sucking his blood,’” he said. “I wasn’t even thinking about myself—I just wanted to make sure my wife wouldn’t be criticised.”
Akwaboah said what helped him stay calm during the trolling was the reminder that he had just come from a successful show and was enjoying the results of his hard work—something many of his critics couldn’t claim.
He also shared that he had warned his wife before they got married to expect public criticism because of his life as an artiste. Despite the harsh comments, he said they both laughed about it and even went out to eat.
“Now she knows how it works,” he said.
Reflecting on the situation, Akwaboah said people often attack others who are doing well.
“People throw rocks at things that shine,” he noted.
He also condemned cyberbullying, saying it’s frustrating when people with no achievements or proper social media presence feel bold enough to insult others.
“When I wake up, I don’t ask my critics for food. I take care of my family. If what you say doesn’t take food off my table, it doesn’t matter,” he concluded.
Despite the trolling, Akwaboah remained confident and encouraged others to stay mentally strong when dealing with public criticism.
The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that it will rerun the Ablekuma North parliamentary election in 19 out of 37 polling stations on Friday, July 11, 2025.
A statement issued and signed on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, by the Deputy Chairperson in charge of Operations at the EC, Samuel Tettey, said the decision to rerun the election in the 19 polling stations follows extensive deliberations with the two major political parties.
According to the EC, the meeting with the parties was a follow-up to an earlier engagement held on Thursday, June 12, 2025, which gave both parties the opportunity to brief the Commission on new developments regarding the parliamentary seat for the constituency.
Both parties, the EC stated, maintained their earlier positions presented at the previous meeting.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) held the view that the election should be rerun in all 37 polling stations, arguing that the scanned pink sheets used for collation were submitted by the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Meanwhile, the NPP insisted that the EC should collate results from the three outstanding polling stations and declare a winner, since NDC agents had already verified and confirmed the scanned pink sheet results.
Following the December 7 general election, political party supporters stormed the collation centre at the Ablekuma North Constituency during the collation process, destroying several pink sheets for the area.
The EC subsequently suspended the collation, citing security concerns. Multiple attempts to complete the process proved unsuccessful, resulting in the constituency lacking parliamentary representation since January 2025.
However, according to the EC, “after extensive deliberations, the Commission informed the political parties that it would proceed to rerun the election in 19 out of the 37 polling stations.”
Mr. Tetteh explained that the Commission arrived at this decision because the 19 scanned polling station results used for the collation, though approved by agents of both political parties, were not verified by the Presiding Officers responsible for those polling stations.
“It is instructive to note that the Commission was able to secure the Presiding Officers’ verification and confirmation for 18 scanned polling station results, which were also approved by agents of both parties. A rerun will therefore not be held in those polling stations,” the statement added.
The Commission has since urged the Ghana Police Service to provide the necessary security to ensure a safe environment for the conduct of the election.

Accra, July 2, GNA – President John Dramani Mahama has launched the Government’s economic flagship programme, the Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme (24H+).
The Programme envisions the transformation of Ghana into a self-reliant, industrially competitive, and export-driven economy.
It seeks to build a Ghana where value chains are fully integrated, production systems are efficient and inclusive, and human capital is globally competitive. Central to this vision is the creation of a resilient national economy that reduces reliance on imports, sustains decent employment, and leverages regional and global trade integration to deliver equitable and sustainable growth across all segments of Ghanaian society.
President Mahama, in his address at the launch of the 24H+ in Accra, said the vision behind the 24-Hour Economy and the Accelerated Export Development Programme was borne out of reflection during and after his previous term in office.
He said between 2016 and 2020, it became increasingly clear that Ghana, like many African countries, was trapped in a model of unequal exchange.
“We export raw materials and we import refined finished products. We ship cocoa, gold, timber and oil abroad, only to repurchase them as chocolates, jewelry, furniture and fuel at a far greater cost,” he said.
This model, the President said, did not serve the people and it had never served them.
He said the export of raw materials generated foreign jobs, fueled foreign economies and funded foreign healthcare and education systems, while the nation’s youth remained unemployed, industry stagnated and imports ballooned.
The President said the 24H+ would be structured around eight thematic areas, each dubbed with a forward-looking slogan.
These include Grow 24, Make 24, Build 24, Show 24, Connect 24, Fund 24, Aspire 24 and Go 24.
Grow 24 is about boosting agricultural productivity, agro-processing and food security.
Make 24 is about revitalizing the nation’s manufacturing and industrialization.
Build 24 is about accelerating infrastructure, construction, housing and public works.
Show 24 is about harnessing Ghana’s rich creative, cultural and tourism assets.
Connect 24 is about fixing the nation’s logistic chains, transport, warehousing, ports, energy and digital infrastructure.
Fund 24 is about unlocking innovative financing through credit guarantee schemes, blended finance and venture capital.
Aspire 24 is about building the skills of people, values, ethics and digital capacity for competitiveness.
And Go 24 is about mobilizing all sectors – religious, security, academic and civic – for national productivity and pride.
He said while the 24-Hour Plus Programme was nationally scoped, the flagship intervention was the Volta Economic Corridor, a transformational effort to unlock the economic and environmental potential of the Volta Lake and its surrounding lands.
He noted that Ghana’s first President Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah envisioned the Volta project at Akosombo, not only as a source of power to power Ghana’s industrial sector.
President Mahama said Dr Nkrumah also saw it as an integrated project that would provide agribusiness, which would provide lands for agriculture irrigation.
“Unfortunately, that aspect of his vision has been lost. Today, we are re-creating Kwame Nkrumah’s dream,” he said
“Today, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s dream comes alive again.”
President Mahama said the Government would irrigate over two million hectares of land for intensive agriculture under Grow 24, establish agro-industrial parks for textiles, pharmaceuticals and food processing under Make 24 and develop tourism clusters along the lake under Show 24.
He said the government would turn the lake into a central transport corridor that connected the north to the south and the east to the west under Connect 24.
President Mahama reiterated that the private sector would lead the 24HR+, while the Government would facilitate and not dominate.
He announced that the Government would soon establish the 24-Economy Authority that would report annually to the President.
President Mahama said the national strategy includes inclusive growth, export expansion, job creation and structural transformation.
“We are under no illusions. The path is going to be challenging. But we will succeed,” he said.
“The path will be challenging but we will succeed. And we will succeed with discipline, coordination and shared purpose. The 24HR+ agenda allows us to do things in a different way.”
Mr Augustus Goosie Tanoh, Presidential Advisor on the 24-Hour Economy, expressed confidence in Ghana’s ability to successfully implement the 24-hour Economy Programme.

Twelve New York jurors gathered around 10:00 (14:00 GMT) on Wednesday in a wood-panelled courtroom to tell Sean “Diddy” Combs that they found him not guilty of running a criminal enterprise with employees, and sex trafficking his ex-girlfriends.
The disgraced hip-hop mogul fell to his knees and buried his head in a chair at the defence table where he had just spent two months on trial for sex trafficking and racketeering.
Before the verdict came down, Combs sat quietly in his chair, looking forward, wearing the same off-white sweater and pants he wore for much of his trial.
The court grew quiet as the jury foreperson handed the verdict sheet to the court deputy. Then it was handed back to the foreperson.
And they began to read.
As the sound of the “not guilty” rung out in court for the first time, acquitting Combs of the most severe crime of racketeering, the rapper kept his head low.
By the time the foreperson announced Combs was not guilty of sex trafficking, Combs had his head in his hands.
The jury did find him guilty on the least severe charges of transporting people to engage in prostitution. As they confirmed their decision, Combs buried his face in his hands.
A flurry of small celebrations followed for Combs, who has been in a federal jail in Brooklyn since September. He made a prayer sign with his hands to the jury, then turned around and made the same gesture to his family – twin daughters, sons and 85-year-old mother.
He appeared to mouth: “I’m coming home.”
The moment seemed equally emotional for Combs’ many lawyers, including Teny Geragos, seated next to him and wiping away tears with a tissue after the verdict was read.
Combs’ attorneys wasted no time in telling the judge that the verdict, reached after roughly two days of deliberations, meant Combs should be able to walk out of the Manhattan courthouse a free man that very day.
His acquittal on the most serious charges meant he no longer needed to be jailed, his attorney Marc Agnifilo told the court, noting that his client’s plane was inaccessible – chartered and in Maui.
“Mr Combs has been given his life by this jury,” he said. “He will not run afoul of anything this court imposes on him.”
Then, in the perhaps the most emotional gesture of the day for Combs, he appeared to express his gratitude by pressing his head into his chair at the defence table.
He rose, clapping his hands loudly, to hug several of his lawyers. Many family members and supporters in the main courtroom and a packed overflow room joined him, cheering.
Then, with one final hug to his lawyer and a wave to his family – blocked by a mass of people and court benches, he was escorted out of the court.
The hip-hop mogul’s homecoming hopes were later dashed as Judge Arun Subramanian denied him bail at another hearing on Wednesday afternoon.
Outside the Manhattan court, there were repeated calls of “free Diddy” in a large crowd behind barriers.
But he will remain behind bars until his sentencing later this year.
Nana Akua Afriyie is the New Patriotic Party Parliamentary Candidate for Ablekuma North
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Ablekuma North in the 2024 elections, Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie, has vehemently rejected the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to rerun parliamentary elections in 19 polling stations within the constituency.
Speaking on Channel One TV on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, Afriyie questioned the rationale behind the EC’s directive, arguing that results from all but three polling stations in the constituency had already been collated.
She maintained that completing the collation for these three remaining stations would finalise the process and allow for a winner to be declared.
“I got the news from my national executives who represented us, but I am not happy with it. We are not going to accept this decision. My reason is very simple. We have gone through all the collation, and we are at three polling stations for us to complete the collation and declaration, and so, what’s changed?” she stated.
Akua Afriyie further expressed her displeasure, noting that the Electoral Commission had previously corroborated her claim that results from only three polling stations were yet to be collated when it appeared before Parliament to provide updates under oath.
She voiced concern that the Electoral Commission’s “U-turn” could set a dangerous precedent, and if left unaddressed, might undermine the country’s democratic processes.
“We had EC coming to Parliament, swearing under oath that we have only three polling stations left. Consistently, that is what it has been throughout and so, if NDC is bent on taking the seat and going to an extent of requesting for a rerun, and if EC that has always insisted also that we are left with only three polling stations, comes back to say that ‘we have agreed on NDC’s decision, then where are we meeting as a country?” she said.
“What I am saying is we are not going to agree. We are not agreeing to this. This can never be a solution. If an NDC tells you that this is a solution for a future something, we are rather jeopardising the situation. The country where we are now is not a democracy,” she added.
Her remarks were in direct response to the Electoral Commission’s announcement of a rerun of the Ablekuma North parliamentary elections in selected polling stations across the constituency.
In a statement issued on July 2, 2025, the EC explained that the rerun was necessitated by the fact that results from 19 polling stations used for collation had not been verified by the respective Presiding Officers.
“After extensive deliberations, the Commission informed the Political Parties that it would proceed to rerun the election in 19 out of the 37 Polling Stations. The Commission arrived at the decision to rerun the election in the underlisted Polling Stations because the 19 scanned Polling Station results used for the collation, though approved by Agents of both Political Parties, were not verified by the Presiding Officers responsible for those Polling Stations. The Election will be held on Friday, 11th July, 2025,” the statement read.
The EC further explained that initial calls for a rerun of parliamentary elections in all 37 polling stations were abandoned, as the Commission managed to obtain verification and confirmation from the Presiding Officers for 18 of the scanned polling station results.
The rerun elections are scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2025.

Court sets July 18 to start trial for Adu Boahene and 3 others
An Accra High Court has set the commencement of the trial of former Director General of the National Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu Boahene and three others over the alleged stealing of GH¢49 million for July 18, 2025.
This comes after the court initially set July 3 to rule on a motion by lawyers of Adu Boahene, regarding the disclosure of all national security coordinators’ operational accounts.
His lawyers, led by Samuel Atta Akyea, on Thursday, June 26, told the court that they had filed a motion for further disclosures on June 23 and prayed the court to move same since they had already served the Attorney-General’s Office.
In the motion filed by the Defence lawyers, they request details of the National Security Coordinators’ operational accounts from 1992 to date, which entails the tenures of five Presidents.
The accounts consist of the governments of Presidents Rawlings (1992 to 2001), Kufuor (2001 to 2009), Atta Mills (2009 to 2012), Mahama (2012 to 2017), Akufo-Addo (2017 to 2025) and Mahama (2025 to date).

Jota’s younger brother, Andre Silva, 26, who played for Liga Portugal 2 side Penafiel, was also killed in the crash.
The Spanish Guardia Civil released a grim statement on Thursday, July 3, 2025, revealing that the accident happened at around 12:30 am local time on the A-52 motorway near Cernadilla, Zamora.
According to the police, the car the brothers were travelling in left the road and burst into flames after suffering a tire blowout while overtaking another vehicle.
“Pending the completion of forensic tests, one of the deceased has been identified as Diogo Jota, a Liverpool FC player, and his brother, Andre Felipe,” the Guardia Civil confirmed.
The tragedy comes less than two weeks after Jota married his long-term partner. The Portugal international leaves behind his wife and their three children.
Jota joined Liverpool in 2020 from Wolves, where he had first arrived on loan in 2017 before making the move permanent.
Widely admired for his sharp finishing and relentless work rate, Jota quickly became a fan favourite at Anfield and a vital part of Jurgen Klopp’s side.
As tributes pour in from across the football world, the investigation into the exact circumstances of the crash continues.

A recent video circulating on social media has triggered public calls for an urgent police investigation after it showed a uniformed officer in a concerning and controversial situation.
The video, first posted by Instagram user sikaofficial1 on July 2, 2025, appears to capture a Ghana Police Service officer who seems to be under the influence of alcohol, while being mocked and harassed by a group of young men.
The Center for Public Opinion and Awareness (CenPOA) has written a petition to President John Dramani Mahama requesting that he calls to order the Administrator of the Minerals Development Fund (MDF) over her recent activities targeted at illegal miners within some Galamsey communities.
Whilst throwing its full support behind the government in its quest to rid our forests and water borders of illegal miners, CenPOA believes the unannounced visits and arrests of suspected illegal miners by Dr Hanna Bissiw is an over-stretch beyond the lawful mandate of the Minerals Development Fund.
Former Asante Mampong MP of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Francis Addai-Nimoh, has accused the party’s leadership of breaching its constitution with the decision to hold presidential primaries in January 2026.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Upfront programme on Wednesday, Mr Addai-Nimoh argued that the party’s constitution clearly stipulates that, when in opposition, the NPP must elect its presidential candidate no later than 24 months before the next general election.
“The constitution of the party says the national executive committee will determine the date and the time, and not later than 24 months before the general election, when the party is in opposition; this is the provision in the constitution.”
He noted that holding the primaries in January is not only unconstitutional but also strategically unwise.
Mr Addai-Nimoh also suggested that the decision by the party’s National Council appeared to be influenced by internal political considerations, alleging that it did not serve the collective interest of the party or reflect the views of all members of the Council.
“For me, they say opinions are divided, but the division of the opinions is tilted more to the side of those who are in opposition or against the decision of the national council. Many, I am pretty sure, some of the national council members themselves are not in favour; they are not happy with what happened last month (the decision to hold the primaries in January 2026).”
He explained that “Per the constitution, we have all the way up to November or the first week of December 2026 to elect the flagbearer. So if you look at it, we shouldn’t exceed it per the constitution, so we have the whole of next year.”

Defending champions Manchester City suffered a shock early exit from the FIFA Club World Cup, crashing out at the last-16 stage after a dramatic 4-3 extra-time defeat to Saudi giants Al-Hilal in a pulsating seven-goal spectacle.
Despite breezing through the group stages, Pep Guardiola’s side were undone by defensive lapses and a spirited Al-Hilal performance that delivered one of the biggest upsets in the tournament’s history.
City made their trademark fast start, opening the scoring inside 10 minutes for the fourth match running. Bernardo Silva fired home from close range after a defensive scramble, though Al-Hilal protested vehemently after Rayan Aït-Nouri appeared to handle the ball in the build-up.
City pushed for a second, but goalkeeper Bono stood firm, pulling off impressive saves to deny Savinho, Ilkay Gündogan, and a powerful Josko Gvardiol header.
After a quiet first half, Al-Hilal turned the match on its head just 44 seconds after the restart when Marcos Leonardo nodded home the equaliser. The Saudi side seized momentum and stunned City further on 52 minutes when Malcom — once of Barcelona — calmly slotted in to make it 2-1.
City responded swiftly, with Erling Haaland poking in from a corner to level the score at 2-2. The Premier League champions pushed for a winner in normal time, coming agonisingly close when Manuel Akanji hit the post and Haaland’s rebound was dramatically cleared off the line by Ali Lajami.
In extra time, Kalidou Koulibaly rose highest to power in a header, putting Al-Hilal ahead again in the 94th minute. But substitute Phil Foden kept City’s hopes alive, firing in a superb volley from a tight angle to make it 3-3.
Just when penalties seemed inevitable, Marcos Leonardo struck again, sliding in at the back post to seal a historic win for the 2021 AFC Champions League winners.

The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has revealed plans to lay a Legislative Instrument (L.I.) before Parliament to introduce stiffer penalties for individuals involved in the illegal installation of electricity meters.
Speaking during a parliamentary Q&A session on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, the minister noted that despite ongoing arrests and prosecutions, existing sanctions have failed to serve as an effective deterrent.
“Ordinarily, it is the ECG that has the mandate to install metres. We are working on an L.I. to be submitted to parliament. So that those who, otherwise, owe such metres, the penalties and penal measures will be quite severe to serve as a deterrent to others,” he said.
He added that a dedicated court currently handles such offences, and the upcoming legislation will further empower authorities to act decisively.
“We have been arresting people, and we have also been prosecuting them. There is even a dedicated court for such offences. So, in collaboration with this house, we intend to bring that legislation for us to make the punishment severe.”
The minister also highlighted an improvement in revenue collection by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), noting that the utility provider had generated GH¢1.6 billion in the first half of 2025 — a notable increase compared to the same period in 2024, though still below the GH¢2.5 billion annual target.
“ECG was able to raise about Ghc1.6 billion in revenue collection so far in the year, which is a remarkable improvement, even though the target ought to be Ghc2.5 billion. If you do a year-on-year comparison, what it means is that this month, 2025, as compared to the same month in 2024, there is a remarkable improvement in terms of revenue collection,” the energy minister added.
2024 Elections: Mahama’s landslide victory was clear from June – Goosie Tanoh
Some social media users, especially on X, have lambasted former British High Commissioner to Ghana, Jon Benjamin, over a comment he made about Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, the leader and founder of Action Chapel International a global Charismatic Christian church headquartered in Accra.
Jon Benjamin had criticised Archbishop Duncan-Williams over a remark the clergyman made during the launch of the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Day on July 1, 2025.
During the event, Duncan-Williams expressed his hope that Ghana would reach a point where citizens would no longer travel abroad in search of greener pastures but rather travel only for leisure, such as food tours.
Responding to this, Jon Benjamin accused the archbishop of living a lavish lifestyle funded by church tithes.
He claimed to have personally witnessed the luxurious life Duncan-Williams enjoys, alleging that the pastor sometimes books the entire first-class cabin on British Airways flights for his family vacations.
“Duncan-Williams certainly travels for nice vacations, on occasion booking the whole first-class cabin of the BA flight to London for his family. I wonder if the poor people who give him ‘tithes’ they can’t afford, and which undermine their economic survival, known in what high luxury he lives. I saw that luxury with my own eyes at his house and office,” Benjamin wrote.
His comments sparked outrage among a section of Ghanaians on social media, who questioned his motives and criticised his approach.
One user fired back, “Who’s this (sic)? How do Ghana’s issues concern you? Oh, you want Ghanaians to keep queuing to go to that your stupid country to be enslaved? Your useless embassy makes more in an hour than any amount of tithes he receives in a year.”
Another user added, “I even bought data to read your nonsense.”
Others chimed in, “Don’t be myopic.”
“To a nonbeliever, envious and hateful person like yourself, it’s a big Yes.”
“Man, you’re English and should have understood what he said. He’s praying that every Ghanaian including those giving him tithe would be able to afford what he’s enjoying, as you claim.”
“Why do you guys always have a problem with ‘tithes? First, it’s not your money. Second, people use their money for what they believe benefits them. Why can’t you let people do what they think is best with their own money?”

The Africa Development Council (ADC) has urged Ghana’s President, John Mahama, to urgently lead diplomatic mediation aimed at restoring peace in Togo, warning that delay could result in further bloodshed.
In a statement released today, the ADC appealed to President Mahama, stressing that, “as a matter of urgency, [he must] diplomatically mediate for peace restoration in that country as soon as possible to prevent further bloodshed.”
The council acknowledged President Mahama’s discreet efforts behind the scenes, saying, “We know that he has been trying behind closed doors to quench the fire in Togo.”
The call comes amid perceived inaction by major international organisations.
The ADC noted, “World bodies, such as the UN, AU & ECOWAS, responsible for the restoration of peace, have failed to act.”
Expressing strong confidence in Ghana’s leadership, the council said, “Ghana, the new hope of Africa, under the leadership of the current President, with the aura around his leadership style, President Mahama, can do the magic in restoring peace in Togo.”
The ADC underscored the urgency of restoring stability, stating, “It is time the world restored peace in Togo.”
Beyond diplomacy, the Africa Development Council pledged technical support for Togo’s recovery, committing that, “The Africa Development Council is ready to provide engineering expertise in rebuilding Togo’s industrial infrastructure, as well as the industrial value addition chain of Togo’s natural resources.”

I’ve been having an affair with my boss for over two years now.
Our relationship started just a few months after I began working at the company, long before his son returned from school.
I didn’t even know he had a son. When the young man first came to the office, he didn’t introduce himself as such.
He simply asked me to tell his father that he wanted to see him, and I did exactly that. My boss also never told me afterward that the young man was his son.
The guy took my number when he was leaving, saying he appreciated my service and would love to be friends. He called soon after, and we started talking.
Before I knew it, I had fallen in love.
We started going out and even had sex several times, including an abortion already. We were together for ten months, he never mentioned that my boss was his father, and he didn’t come to the workplace again until last month.
In the 11th month of our relationship, he showed up at the office again to see his father, but he didn’t tell me beforehand. It was a surprise visit.
That afternoon, I casually asked him what he always comes there to do. He laughed out loud and said, “Your boss is my father.” I couldn’t believe it. I was so shocked that I even doubted him at first.
When he was leaving, he walked out with my boss and said to him, “Your secretary doesn’t believe I’m your son. Please stand next to me so she can see the resemblance.” My boss just smiled and said, “Yes, he’s my son, my firstborn. You’ll be seeing him around a lot more from next year.”
My heart skipped a beat. I couldn’t say anything except force a smile. That’s when I really started noticing the resemblance, and everything began to click: the surname, certain things he had said, small clues I had overlooked.
I don’t think they’ve discussed me, because both of them are still dating me with the same energy. But I’ve started pulling back from my boss. The truth is, I never loved him; I was only in it for the benefits. His son, though, is everything I’ve ever wanted. He’s my dream man.
He’s so educated, smart, and gentle. I’ve never met a man like him. He’s made me realize that children born into wealth can actually know how to love better. He pampers me and makes me feel like a baby in an incubator, safe, warm, and protected.
I don’t believe he’s playing games with me. I truly think he loves me because he’s always there, doing everything he can to make me happy.
This man feels like my chance at real love. I keep telling myself that my husband has finally come. He wants to be with me, too, but I’m scared we may never work out because of my past affair with his father.
The man had slept with me several times. In his office, his car, hotels, and other places. He has gotten me pregnant twice and asked me to abort them. He just uses me anyhow, but he gives me good money.
Knowing what we have done, he can’t let his son marry me. So I want to act smart, but what do I do? I can’t let this chance slip from my hands. Will I ever get a good man again?
This guy is all I have and want to be with forever. I want to eliminate his father; I can do it easily. I will just serve us a drink after work, and after drinking, we have sex, and he dies when he gets home.
If he never mentions us to the son, the son will never know, and then he and I can marry. This is dangerous, I know, but what else can I do?
I also deserve some good things. I am scared, but I want to do it. Please, I’m helpless and I need advice.
The event saw participants ranging from local leaders and church members to market
In a heartfelt call for peace and solidarity, Nene Ofei Tagbaja, Divisional Chief of the Asesewa Division, led hundreds of residents in a Unity Walk on July 1, 2025, declaring that despite the community’s diversity, its true strength lies in unity.
The event brought together a wide array of participants — from local leaders and church members to market women and youth — who marched through the streets of Asesewa.
The route stretched from Asesewa Town to Asesewa Senior High School, passed along Principal Street, and concluded at the Asesewa Lorry Station.
Addressing the crowd, Nene Ofei Tagbaja emphasized the urgent need for unity as the foundation of community development.
“Today, we demonstrate that despite our differences, our strength lies in unity,” he declared, drawing resounding applause.
The Unity Walk featured vibrant displays of cultural heritage, including drumming, dancing, and singing, celebrating the rich diversity that makes Asesewa unique.
In addition to the cultural festivities, a free health screening exercise was organized to promote community well-being.
Prominent figures who added their voices to the call for peace and development included Felix Nartey Odjao of the planning committee, Bismarck Nyako, Member of Parliament for Upper Manya, and Emmanuel Kwesi Lawer, District Chief Executive of the Upper Manya District Assembly.
Each emphasized the importance of collective responsibility and cooperation in achieving sustainable development.
Felix Nartey Odjao noted, “The Unity Walk has brought us closer, and I am inspired to play a greater role in community development.”
A key highlight of the event was the unveiling of the Asesewa Unity Initiative — a community-driven programme aimed at implementing development projects that promote inclusion, resilience, and economic growth.

Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor
The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has announced that the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) collected GH¢1.6 billion in revenue during the first six months of 2025.
Addressing Parliament on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, Jinapor described the figure as a clear improvement in ECG’s performance, although it fell short of the GH¢2.5 billion revenue target set for the period.
He noted that compared to the same period in 2024, the increase is significant.
“In June alone, ECG generated about GH¢1.6 billion, which reflects a strong year-on-year improvement in revenue collection,” he said.
The minister also announced plans to introduce a new legislative instrument in Parliament to enforce stricter penalties against individuals involved in the illegal installation of electricity meters.
Although some culprits have already faced arrest and prosecution, he believes the current sanctions are not harsh enough to deter such unlawful acts.
He stressed the urgency of implementing more severe punishments to help eliminate the practice.

Some Traditional authorities and prominent personalities in Ghana have urged Ghanaians to respect and acknowledge the culture of other countries especially the Igbo New Yam Festival and see it as a way to strengthen the bond between Ghana and Nigeria.
According to them, Ghana is a nation that is built on peace, hospitality and cultural diversity and has continued to grow as a hub for trade, education, and international relations in West Africa.
They revealed that Ghana is well recognized in the world for the country’s ability to live harmoniously with people from different backgrounds which has compelled many citizens from different countries to make Ghana their home.
Responding to a call by a group calling itself as APEX, demanding the National House of Chiefs to ban the Igbo’s in Ghana from celebrating their annual New Yam Festival, these traditional Authorities stated that the Igbo’s are a significant group whose culture and contributions to Ghana deserve recognition and respect.
They said, the Igbo New Yam festival in Ghana contributes significantly to the economy and tourism sector of Ghana where it attracts a lot of Nigeria business men and women from different countries to participate and collaborate with Ghanaian businesses.
They stated that the festival also gives opportunity for the display of Ghanaian traditional and culture while paving way for many Ghanaians to exhibit their business products for free to attract Nigeria investors to partner and do business.
They added that the venue, chairs and among others used for the celebration of the New Yam Festival are provided by Ghanaians while paying Ghana’s sanitation giant Zoomlion company limited to ensure sanitation services before, during and after the celebration, therefore contributing to the development of the Ghanaian businesses.
The Igbo people are known for their industrious spirit, strong family values, and deep respect for tradition which Ghanaians represent the same values contributing positively to Ghana’s culture and traditions.
Beyond this, the Igbo New Yam Festival in Ghana they said brings rich cultural heritage, dress, music, food, and customs that adds value to Ghana’s multicultural society.
They stated that Igbo people are known for extensive travel, both within Nigeria and internationally adding that Igbo’s travel not just for financial reason but also for cultural, social, and contribute to others economic sectors.
Beyond this migration, Igbo people have also established significant communities in numerous countries worldwide and have Chiefs and elders that sees the affair of their people.
They revealed that Igbo Culture and tradition demand that no Chief in the Diaspora are buried outside Igboland.
They revealed that respecting Igbo culture is not about giving up Ghanaian culture identity to other people rather It is about honoring the humanity of others and acknowledging mutual respect, fosters peace and coexistence.
“Allowing space for other people traditional ceremonies, recognizing cultural festivals like the Igbo New Yam Festival will open doors for Ghanaians to know about Igbo customs and understand that Ghana and Nigeria especially the Igbos have things in common”
Expressing worries about the group calls for the ban of the Igbo New Yam Festival in Ghana, the traditional authorities stated that just as Ghanaians expect Ghana traditions and culture to be respected abroad, the time has come for Ghanaians to offer the same courtesy to others who live among them.
Making references to other Ghanaian Culture festivals that are celebrated in the Diaspora, these traditional Authorities stated that last year, the Ashanti Kingdom, led by the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu Il, celebrated their 6th Akwasidae for 2024 in London as part of the
25th anniversary celebration of the King of Asanteman.
The celebration in London, they said brought together Asantes from all parts of the world to attend the event to showcase the Akan culture.
They recall that On October 26, 2024, the Ga Traditional Council, in collaboration with GaDangme UK & Ireland, hosted the Grand Homowo UK Festival 2024, showcasing the rich heritage of the GaDangme culture to the world.
The event offered them the opportunity to sprinkle the god for the gods Kpokpoi and featured the attendance of queen mothers and chiefs from the Ga Traditional Council, including the Ghanaian billionaire and businessman Daniel Mckorley, popularly known as McDan.
They added that these festivals are not only celebrated in the UK rather many countries such as the United States, Canada, Netherland and among others.
Acknowledging the Igbo New Yam Festival in Ghana, they said will be fairness, and reflection of who Ghanaians are as a people, welcoming wise, and peace-loving.
They further urged the people of Ghana especially the youth to let Ghana continue to shine as a beacon of unity adding that respecting Igbo culture, and all cultures within the borders of Ghana is not only the right thing to do but it is the Ghanaian thing to do.
Liverpool star Diogo Jota’s death at just 28 has heartbreakingly left his wife – who he had wed just two weeks earlier, after being together for 12 years – a widow.
Rute Cardoso, 28, who is the mother of his three children, is the beloved Portuguese athlete’s high school sweetheart and has been by his side since before his thriving career kicked off.
He had just recently described himself as the luckiest man in the world – following the nuptials in his hometown, Porto, last month.
Her social media account, which has some 55,900 followers, documented the young family’s many exciting travels and evolution from fresh-faced youngsters to beautiful parents to Dinis, four, and two other babies whose names are not known, aged two and eight months.
Diogo’s devastating passing comes after his Lamborghini careered off a road in northern Spain, as the forward was travelling in the supercar with his fellow footballer brother Andre, 26, who also died in the crash.
The tyre is believed to have blown out while overtaking on the A-52 around 70 miles west of the historic city of Valladolid. The car came off the road, crashed and then burst into flames in the early hours of this morning.
Rute and Diogo posted on social media just 20 hours earlier, Rute looking beaming as a bride in a ‘day they will never forget’ and a ‘dream come true’. Five days ago, the couple also shared snaps from the religious ceremony, writing: ‘Yes to forever’.
Elsewhere, images from her social media profile show the kids huddling up to their dad on the football pitch, happy couple selfies and sweet images of their three beagles.

Rute is also fond of documenting the family’s many travels. In March, they ventured to Lapland, Finland.
The family grinned as they wrapped up warm to brave the crunchy snow, and huddled around a campfire.
The pair have also shared their pregnancy reveals with the world on Rute’s Instagram.
The mother-of-three’s social media goes back as far 2013 – when both would have been about 16 – showing the baby faced teenagers posing for photos together.
Ever supportive, Rute was making appearances at his football games when Diogo was making his start in local clubs.
The fatal incident which saw Diogo lose his life occurred on the A-52 in the province of Zamora. The road in Spain is a key route taken by drivers leaving northern Portugal.
Emergency services in the Castilla and Leon region confirmed the crash and two fatalities at around 12.35am on Thursday morning.
‘The 1-1-2 Castilla y León operations room received several calls reporting a vehicle accident at Km. 65 of the A-52, in the municipality of Cernadilla, Zamora. A car was reported to have been involved in an accident and the vehicle was on fire,’ a statement read.
‘1-1-2 notified the Zamora Traffic Police, the Zamora Provincial Council Fire Brigade, and the Sacyl Emergency Coordination Center (CCU) of this accident.
‘From there, a Medical Emergency Unit (UME) and the Primary Care Medical Staff (MAP) from the Mombuey Health Center were sent, who confirmed the death of two people on the scene’.

The Portuguese national football team have said they are ‘devastated’ by the death of Liverpool forward Diogo, adding that he ‘was not only a fantastic player with almost 50 caps for the national team, but also an extraordinary person who was respected by all his teammates and opponents’.
His death was confirmed by Pedro Proenca, head of the Portuguese Football Federation.
He said in a statement: ‘The Portuguese Football Federation and all of Portuguese football are completely devastated by the deaths of Diogo Jota and André Silva, this morning, in Spain.
‘Much more than an amazing player, with almost 50 internationalizations for the National A Team, Diogo Jota was an extraordinary person, respected by all teammates and opponents, someone with an infectious joy and a reference in the community itself.
‘On my behalf, and on behalf of the Portuguese Football Federation, I express my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Diogo and André Silva, as well as Liverpool FC and FC Penafiel, the clubs where, respectively, lined up the players.
‘The Portuguese Football Federation has already asked UEFA for a minute’s silence, this Thursday, before the match of our national team with Spain, in the women’s European Championship.
‘Lost to two champs. The disappearance of Diogo and Andre Silva represent irreparable losses for Portuguese football and we will do everything to, daily, honor their legacy’.
Jota starred for Liverpool as they won the Premier League title in May and also played for Portugal’s national team and helped it win the Nations League last month.
His brother played with Portuguese club Penafiel in the lower divisions.
Jota joined Liverpool from Wolves in 2020 and won three major trophies with the Merseyside club – including the Premier League title last season.
The sporting world is in a state of shock and mourning, with tributes flooding in.
Gary Neville wrote on X: ‘That is heartbreaking news on Diogo Jota and his brother. All my love and best wishes to his family.’

Jamie Carragher wrote: ‘Absolutely devastated by the sad news about Diogo Jota Thoughts are with his wife Rute & their three kids.’
Jota’s Portuguese and former Wolves team-mate Joao Neves added: ‘They say we only lose people when we forget them. I will never forget you.’
Former England striker Alan Shearer simply posted the word ‘heartbreaking’, while Stan Collymore described the news as ‘unfathomable’.
‘I’m sure like many in the football family there’s just a profound sense of shock, sadness and disbelief at the news of Diogo Jota’s death at the unfathomably young age of 28. Newly married too,’ he said.
‘Sending my deepest condolences to his family and friends and everyone at Liverpool.’
Rivalries were of course put aside, with ex-Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea saying: ‘Sometimes life is very cruel,’ and Rio Ferdinand sharing: ‘Absolutely heartbreaking. My thoughts and prayers go out to Diogo Jota, Andre Silva, their family & friends!’
Jota’s former club Porto were the first of his old sides to offer their thoughts, writing: ‘FC Porto is in mourning. It is with shock and deep sorrow that we extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva, who was also our athlete in the youth ranks. Rest in peace.’
And legendary Portugal defender Pepe spoke about the loss of his friend.
‘It was with great sadness that I received the news of the passing of Diogo Jota and his brother André. A premature, painful loss, which leaves us all poorer — as colleagues, as friends and as football lovers. In this moment of deep grief, I send my most sincere condolences to their family, friends and all who loved them. May they find strength in the love and memories they left behind. May they rest in peace,’ he wrote.’
And former Portugal manager Fernando Santos said the news had rendered him speechless.
He wrote: ‘I am shocked, speechless. It is a very sad moment for the family. It is a sad moment for everyone, especially for those who worked with him because everyone liked him.’

Of Propaganda, Broken Promises And Shameless Deceit As Foreign Affairs Minister—NPP GERMANY Exposes Okudzeto Ablakwa
NPP GERMANY Branch is baffled that the Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, appears to be turning the Ministry into a theatre of deception and propaganda.
In a country where political gimmickry has replaced governance and facts are buried beneath populist spin, one man stands tall as the undisputed master of propaganda: Ghana’s so-called Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
Presidential Advisor on the 24-Hour Economy policy, Goosie Tanoh, has provided a comprehensive insight into ‘Grow 24’, a cornerstone of Ghana’s ambitious eight-pronged 24-Hour Economy strategy aimed at modernising and expanding the nation’s agricultural sector.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show today, Mr Tanoh explained that ‘Grow 24’ seeks to spearhead agricultural transformation through the application of advanced technology, climate-smart practices, and enhanced infrastructure, thereby enabling continuous, round-the-clock production and value addition.
“Farmers face numerous challenges — limited access to fertiliser, mechanisation shortfalls, poor farm maintenance, and insufficient extension services,” he noted. “‘Grow 24’ is designed to overcome these barriers.”
Following extensive consultations with farmers, industrial stakeholders, the private sector, and government agencies, it became clear that certain foundational issues must be addressed to ensure agriculture thrives and attracts long-term investment.
“Farmers made it clear: they require secure land titles, dependable irrigation to facilitate year-round cultivation — particularly of vegetables and cereals — digital connectivity for seamless access to extension services, and quality road networks to transport produce efficiently to markets,” Mr Tanoh emphasised.
He underscored the importance of logistical improvements in reducing post-harvest losses and transport costs, stressing that these are vital to de-risking agriculture and attracting private investment.
“Grow24 is built around three pivotal pillars: transforming production through modern techniques to increase yields; enhancing supply chain and market efficiency via improved transport, logistics, and storage; and developing human capital by ensuring farmers and workers are highly skilled, disciplined, and work-ready,” he said.
“Without discipline and a robust work ethic, we cannot compete with dynamic Asian economies. Therefore, skills training and mindset development are paramount,” Mr Tanoh stated.
To entice greater participation, particularly among the youth, he highlighted essential incentives such as tax relief, targeted investment support for specific value chains, affordable credit, equity financing, and access to skilled labour.
Addressing the needs of industrial farmers, Mr Tanoh said, “What do I seek as a farmer? Lower tax burdens, incentives to invest in promising value chains, affordable loans, equity injections to expand my enterprise, and long-term financing. Additionally, I require skilled, capable workers alongside reliable infrastructure — land, energy, and water.”
Central to ‘Grow 24’’s rollout is the Volta Lake corridor, described as the prime corridor for agricultural expansion and transformation. “On either side of the lake stretches approximately 10 kilometres, covering 8 million hectares multiplied by 2.4, it’s about 20 million acres of land. After accounting for forest reserves, about 4 million hectares of arable land remain — a vast opportunity for agricultural development.”
The strategy involves collaborating with existing farmers to establish agro-ecological parks, integrating smallholder farmers into cooperative models anchored by experienced large-scale “anchor” farmers. This framework is designed to harness economies of scale, facilitate knowledge exchange, and bolster resilience.
Mr Tanoh outlined a model whereby private-sector farmers operate mechanised farms cultivating diverse crops, supported by investors who provide mechanisation, extension, and technological assistance.
The Ghana Infrastructure Fund (GIF), acting as the special purpose vehicle managing land concessions from the Volta River Authority (VRA), will deliver the essential energy and irrigation infrastructure to underpin this ecosystem.
This innovative private service-centre model reduces capital expenditure for farmers by allowing them to rent machinery and services on equitable terms, thereby lowering investment risks and barriers to entry.
“Anchor farmers will also serve as conduits for input credit to the smaller farmers integrated within their operations,” Mr Tanoh explained. “Smallholders produce 90% of our food and cannot be overlooked. Our objective is to upgrade farming infrastructure and technology. Through anchor farmers, we formalise and integrate smallholders into efficient crop systems, enhance their skills and capacities, and organise them to facilitate easier access to finance.”
Mr Tanoh reiterated that Grow24 transcends being a mere agricultural initiative; it is a transformative economic programme designed to create jobs, ensure food security, boost exports, and raise incomes for both smallholder and commercial farmers.
By aligning infrastructure, finance, and policy, Grow24 will unlock the full potential of Ghana’s agricultural sector and position it to compete confidently on the global stage.

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has announced a rerun of the parliamentary election in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency, following disputes over the authenticity of results from the December 7, 2024, general election.
In a statement issued on July 2, 2025, the Election Management Body(EMB) explained that its decision followed extensive consultations and a review of the electoral process in the affected areas.
According to the EC, the rerun is necessary because, although scanned results from the 19 polling stations had been approved by party agents, they were not verified by the respective Presiding Officers, as required under electoral procedures.
The rerun will be conducted in 19 out of the 37 polling stations in the constituency, as the remaining 18 were not affected by the dispute.

CUM INCIPIO (Latin: To begin with), let us acknowledge our lecturer in Russian literature, Atukwei Okai, who succumbed to the solemn quietus in July, 2018, aged 77. We could hardly forget the punishment for not reciting “Ya Goya” (I am Goya by Andrei Voznesensky); written in Russian alphabets (very different from English alphabets); “I am Goya… I am grief… I am the tongue… ashes of the uninvited guest… I am Goya”.
Narendra Modi, the leader of the world’s largest democracy, India, will make a two-day official visit to Ghana, one of Africa’s few enduring liberal democracies, on July 2 to 3.
The purpose of the visit, according to President John Mahama’s spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, MP, is to highlight “the warm and longstanding friendly relations between Ghana and India, as well as the importance both nations place on strengthening their strategic partnership.”
President John Mahama and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will discuss deepening cooperation in various sectors, including trade, investment, agriculture, technology, education, health care and energy, as well as exchanging views on issues of mutual interest, both regional and global. Democracy is not expected to be on the agenda.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit is part of a multi-nation tour. During July 2 to 9, he will visit Ghana, Trinidad & Tobago, Argentina, Brazil and Namibia and, on July 6 to 7, attend the 17th BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) annual summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Ghana-India relations
The Ghana-India relationship goes back a long way. Strong foundations were laid by Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah and India’s first Prime Minister, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru.
The two leaders enjoyed a close personal friendship and were key leaders of the Non-Aligned Movement during the Cold War era. Over the years, several of Ghana’s presidents have visited India, including Nkrumah (1961), Limann (1961), Rawlings (1993, 1997), and Kufuor (2002, 2008).
There have also been regular ministerial and official visits from India to Ghana. Relations between Ghana and India are enhanced by the existence of a substantial Indian community in Ghana, numbering about 10,000, an Indian presence that goes back over 70 years to the era of British colonialism.
Indians’ business activities in Ghana contribute in a major way to India being the second largest investor in Ghana in terms of the number of projects.
In recent years, Ghana-India relations have expanded significantly across bilateral trade, defence and development cooperation. In March 2025, India exported $141 million worth of goods to Ghana and imported $239 million from the latter, indicating a negative trade balance of $97.6 million.
Between March 2024 and March 2025, India’s exports to Ghana increased by $31.8 million (29.1%) from $109 million to $141 million, while imports from Ghana increased by $206 million (634%) from $32.5 million to $239 million.
Ghana’s main exports to India in 2024-25 were gold ($125 million), Petroleum: Crude ($74.1 million), and cashew nuts ($16.9 million). India’s main exports to Ghana were: Other Construction Machinery ($28.3 million), Drug Formulations, Biologicals ($12.3 million), and Motor Vehicle/Cars ($8.36 million).
Cooperation
Under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation programme, Ghana benefits from extensive training opportunities in both the defence and civil sectors.
The 2021–2022 fiscal year saw Ghana receive about 40 defence training slots alongside about 35 scholarships from the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, aimed at building specialised capacity within Ghana’s security and administrative institutions.
Areas of training include cybersecurity, peacekeeping operations, and disaster management, contributing to greater institutional effectiveness in Ghana’s armed forces.
Joint military exercises and knowledge-sharing initiatives between India and Ghana further bolster their security collaboration.
India’s experience in peacekeeping supports Ghana’s significant contributions to United Nations missions, particularly through institutions such as the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre in Accra.
India has played a crucial role in supporting Ghana’s infrastructure and digital transformation, particularly through concessional loans and grants.
The Pan-African e-Network Project provides tele-education and telemedicine services, enabling Ghanaian students and healthcare professionals to access Indian resources remotely.
Additionally, the Tema–Mpakadan Rail Line, primarily funded by a US$447 million credit facility from the India Exim Bank secured in late 2024.
This is to enhance regional trade connectivity, underpinning Ghana’s ambition to become a logistics hub in West Africa.
Democratic stability
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Ghana from Wednesday, July 2 to Thursday, July 3, 2025, is exceptionally important within the context of his multi-nation tour.
It marks his first official visit to Ghana, indicating a significant milestone in the historically strong Ghana-India relationship.

Professor of Financial Economics at the University of Ghana Business School, Lord Mensah
Professor of Financial Economics at the University of Ghana Business School, Lord Mensah, who has been appointed by President John Dramani Mahama as the new Head of the Local Government Service, has responded to claims regarding his alleged affiliation with the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to him, while he is not a registered member of the NDC, he aligns with the party’s ideology.
Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime on July 2, 2025, he was asked directly if he was an NDC member.
He responded, “Not necessarily, but then also, you came to your office through a particular government. And so, of course, I’m a Ghanaian, and you expect me to, I mean, be aligned to a particular party.”
The host further probed, “So it is expected that, you know, once you have the same ideology, the same thinking, then, I mean, obviously, you may have to align. Okay, so now you are aligned?”
To this, Professor Mensah answered, “Yes, of course… well, with the position I occupy, it’s a non-political position. But of course, once the ideologies of the NDC align with yours as an academic, obviously, you may have to go in line.”
Professor Lord Mensah is one of several top academics from the University of Ghana who have been appointed by President Mahama into various positions in his administration.
