A self-assessment programme dubbed the ‘Wheel of Life’ series, by Lady Sam, aimed at “embracing equity in the corporate and social space,” will take place on March 18, 2023, at the Gold Coast Restaurant at Cantonment in Accra.
It is under the theme “Embracing Equity” in line with the theme for International Women’s Month.
The series delves into various aspects of life, including the individual’s need to empower others to enable them to better perform their roles.
There will also be key speakers during the series, including seasoned Business Leader, Tucci Ivowi and Etiquette Coach, Sika Goka, among others. It promises to be an informative yet educative programme.
The ‘Wheel of Life’ series is a good self-assessment tool which looks at the different dimensions of life and helps to bring balance. It gives a visual snapshot of one’s life by using a scoring system to measure how satisfied or unsatisfied one is with each dimension or area of their life. Once a score has been given to all the identified dimensions/areas, the area that needs focus can quickly be recognised and then subsequently worked on.
The series is valuable to use if one is either stressed or at a crossroads in life. If used effectively, it can be a game changer in bringing balance to one’s life.
“Every year I like to hold an empowering session in the month that celebrates women and this year promises to be no different,” Lady Sam indicated in a statement.
A former Assistant Manager at the Chicken Inn and Pizza Inn, branch at Accra Mall, Collins Acquah who was charged with stealing an amount of GHC19,904 from his employers has been jailed 5 years with hard labour by the Achimota Circuit court.
The prosecution told the Court presided over by Akosua Anokyewaa Adjapong that Acquah accessed the vault room where the proceeds from December 25 and 26, 2023, were kept due to the Christmas holidays.
Around 4:23 am on December 27, 2023, he allegedly stole the cash of GHC19,904. The incident which was captured on CCTV footage, was reviewed later that day, confirming the theft.
Following the incident, Collins Acquah fled to Cape Coast and went into hiding.
The prosecution indicated that efforts by the management of Chicken Inn and Pizza Inn to contact him proved futile causing them to report the case to the Airport Police Station, until he was arrested and paraded before the court.
When the case was called on Monday 10th June 2024, Acquah, who was not represented by a counsel, admitted not guilty to the offence.
He was charged with stealing under Section 123(1) and 124(1) of the Criminal Offenses Act, 1960 (Act 29).
In court on Monday 10th June 2024, a family member said, that Collins spent substantial part of his monthly salary on betting activities, adding that when he stumbled upon an opportunity to steal, he could not resist. With a clouded mind, he succumbed to the allure of easy money and decided to take the risk.
In court on Thursday 20th June 2024, when the case was called, Collins Acquah drew the attention of the court that, after a sober reflection for seven days in police remand, he would like to change his earlier plea from not guilty to guilty. When he was asked by the Judge as to the whereabouts of the stolen cash, he couldn’t say anything meaningful.
The Presiding Judge, Akosua Anokyewaa Adjapong, found Collins guilty on his own plea and sentenced him to 5years imprisonment with hard Labour.
In delivering her judgment, Mrs, Akosua Adjapong, took into consideration the age of the accused, being a first-time offender and voluntarily admitting guilt.
He is to pay a 100 penalty unit which is GHC1,200 to his former employer and also refund the full amount of GHS 19,904 stolen.
Per the judgement, he will serve an additional two years if he fails to pay the 100 penalty unit.
His former employer, Chicken Inn, Pizza Inn is seriously considering civil action to retrieve all the stolen money.
A prosecutor has filed a complaint with Spain’s high court against suspended football federation president Luis Rubiales for sexual assault and coercion.
Rubiales kissed midfielder Jenni Hermoso on the lips after Spain’s Women’s World Cup final win, which she says was not consensual.
Hermoso filed a legal complaint over the kiss on Tuesday.
It is now up to the court to present formal charges against the 46-year-old.
Hermoso’s complaint was one of sexual assault but prosecutor Marta Durantez Gil has also added an allegation of coercion when filing to the high court.
A statement from the prosecutor’s office said Hermoso told Gil that her relatives had suffered pressure from Rubiales and his “professional entourage” to say that she “justified and approved what happened”.
“The prosecutors request that Luis Rubiales be questioned as an accused and Jenni Hermoso as a victim,” the prosecutor’s office added.
It also requests that information is gathered from authorities in Australia, where the incident took place.
Prior to the kiss, Rubiales had been seen grabbing his crotch while celebrating Spain’s 1-0 win over England in Sydney.
A high court judge will now assess the complaint and decide whether to accept or archive the request. If accepted, a magistrate will be assigned to lead an investigation, which will conclude either with a recommendation for the case to go to trial or be dismissed.
The charge of sexual assault under Spanish law can carry a punishment ranging from a fine to four years in prison.
“The high court often tackles crimes with an international dimension, such as terrorism or organised crime. It is involved in this case because the alleged assault by Mr Rubiales took place in Australia,” BBC Madrid correspondent Guy Hedgecoe explained.
Spanish prosecutors opened a preliminary investigation on 28 August, looking into whether the incident amounts to a crime of sexual assault.
At the time, Spain’s top criminal court said it was opening its investigation in light of the “unequivocal nature” of 33-year-old Hermoso’s statements, saying it was necessary “to determine their legal significance”.
Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) regional leaders called on Rubiales to resign last month but he has refused to step down since the incident, telling an extraordinary general assembly “I will not resign, I will not resign”, and claiming “a social assassination is taking place”.
Football’s world governing body Fifa provisionally suspended Rubiales for 90 days and opened disciplinary proceedings against him.
World Cup-winning manager Jorge Vilda was sacked on 5 September amid the ongoing scandal.
Before he was sacked, most of Vilda’s coaching staff resigned and 81 players refused to play for Spain in protest at Rubiales’ actions and refusal to quit.
Politicians, footballers and celebrities have spoken out against Rubiales, while protesters gathered at the RFEF headquarters to demand his resignation.

In a discussion on the Big Conversation on 3 Music TV, the “Kakalila Love” hitmaker revealed that after losing her £700 internship, she struggled to secure a job despite submitting numerous applications.

She also registered with multiple job agencies without success, leading her to make the difficult decision to return to Ghana.
“When I decided to return to Ghana and look for a job here, I happened to be on the last Ghana Airwaves flight I think somewhere in January 2010,” she disclosed.

Building contractors have been urged to embrace innovation and resilience in order to navigate the challenges of the business environment.
Mr Prosper Yao Ledi, President of the Association of Building and Civil Engineering Contractors of Ghana (ABCECG), emphasised the need for innovative approaches to sustain operations amid ongoing economic constraints.
Mr Ledi, who stated this in his New Year’s statement, acknowledged that the economic challenges persisting from the previous year were likely to continue.
He said adopting innovative strategies would be crucial for contractors to weather the uncertainties of the New Year.
Noting that this year was an election year, Mr Ledi anticipated a potential increase in projects.

The President of ABCECG said government’s limited revenue streams might affect the timely awarding of contracts and payments.
“Innovate or die is a mantra we must all adopt this year and subsequent years,” he stated and assured that the Association would actively support its members in developing innovative solutions to stay competitive.
He said the challenges of delayed payments, unfair contract awards, and harassment by statutory agencies continued to persist and urged the government to intervene to address those challenges.
Mr Ledi said delayed payment of projects had caused the country to lose a lot of revenue as it led to the increase in the cost of project, adding that completing projects on time would relief the government of unnecessary financial burdens.
He urged the government to recognise construction as a growth pole and stressed the need for fair contract awards and the availability of funds before the commencement of projects to prevent delays in payments.
Mr Ledi commended building contractors, particularly foreign members of the Association, for their commitment to ethical practices.
He encouraged other contractors operating in the country to register with ABCECG, emphasising the Association’s focus on creating platforms for knowledge sharing and technology transfer in 2024.
“The goal is to facilitate learning from foreign counterparts, sharing best practices, and fostering collaboration on projects,” Mr Ledi stated.
The President of ABCECG decried the situation where some political leaders openly discouraged foreign contractors from registering with the various associations in the country, describing such conducts as retrogressive and promoting indiscipline.
Mr Ledi called for a closer working relationship between the building industry and the government.

A legendary highlife musician, Ackablay Anthony, has urged the administrators of universities in Ghana to introduce music business management as a an academic programme.
This, according to him, will help industry players acquire the requisite skills to promote Ghanaian music internationally.
He thinks the majority of industry players are ignorant about the business aspect of music, hence the need for them to be formally educated.
Just as in other professions, the veteran musician believes formal education will ensure seriousness and efficiency in the industry.
He made these comments in an interview with Roselyn Fellini on Prime Morning on Friday.
“The people who call themselves the music overseers in the industry don’t have any knowledge about how music or the industry are managed. I call them NATO (that is No Action Talk Only). They just know how to talk, but they don’t know how to do it, and it’s unfortunate we don’t have music business courses in the universities,” he said.
The industry players, according to him, are working to improve the sector, but they lack business skills, which is hindering its growth.
Ackablay further asserted that the industry is inactive because of the government’s neglect of the sector.
Also, the “Take Away” hitmaker indicated that highlife music is gradually fading out, and the new generation of musicians, even though they produce highlife rhythms, do not portray themselves as such. He said they emulate foreign culture instead of Ghanaian culture in their music videos.
“A music producer friend came to Ghana to scout for a musician, but he will call me every morning to tell me that he doesn’t see Ghanaian musicians on TV. Do you know why? Because our youth who are on television are always dressing like Americans,” he added.
Meanwhile, he has commended Kelvin Boy and Kuami Eugene, among others, for promoting highlife. He urged other musicians to proudly identify themselves as highlife musicians, as it originated in Ghana.

The Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) in December 2021 stated that the government will lose more money in developing rail lines if they are not utilized properly.
“Resolve all matters holding the company from operationalizing the rail lines in Accra because as we are not using it, wear and tear will be sitting in and we will have to spend more to restore the lines to their original state,” he added.
Operationalize railway lines in Accra to rake in revenues for the country, PIAC to govt
Delay to deteriorate rail platforms and lines, Nasir Mohammed
Resolve all issues with Ghana Railway Company
Vice Chairman of the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC), Nasir Alfa Mohammed, has said the government will end up spending more money on restoring the Accra rail lines if it’s not utilized in good shape now.
According to him, even though the Accra rail lines have been completed, it’s not being used compared to that of the Takoradi rail lines that have been operationalized.
He urged government to settle every issue with the Ghana Railway Company for the trains to start working on the Accra rail lines.
Nasir Alfa Mohammed said, “even though the rail lines in Accra are equally completed like those in Takoradi, those in Accra are not being used while those in Takoradi are already being used and that we think is not appropriate”.
“Resolve all matters holding the company from operationalizing the rail lines in Accra because as we are not using it, wear and tear will be sitting in and we will have to spend more to restore the lines to their original state,” he added.
The vice chairman of PIAC said this during the inspection of some projects partially funded with oil funds in the Greater Accra Region.
He advised that there is a sustainable maintenance regime to help the country rake in more revenue.
Meanwhile, project engineers say the rail lines need some fixing before it can be operationalized.

Renowned Ghanaian marriage counsellor, Charlotte Oduro, has offered guidance to women facing partners who engage in extramarital affairs, urging them to seek counselling instead of resorting to retaliation.
According to her, when faced with such challenges in a marriage, it’s preferable for a woman to consider walking away rather than succumbing to the temptation of infidelity as a form of retribution.
She emphasized that women who choose to cheat in response to their husband’s infidelity are likely to suffer severe consequences that could detrimentally impact their lives.
“I want women to understand that resorting to infidelity won’t resolve their issues. Don’t allow your anger to lead you to ruin your future. If you find it unbearable to cope with your husband’s infidelity, seek counselling or consider ending the marriage. Don’t respond to wrongdoing with more wrongdoing,” she advised in an interview with Oyerepa FM and monitored by GhanaWeb.
Counselor Charlotte lamented the societal acceptance of men’s infidelity while condemning women who follow suit out of pain.
“Many women are reacting to men’s infidelity out of hurt, but this shouldn’t be the case. They’ve noticed that society often overlooks men’s affairs but condemns women’s, so they feel compelled to retaliate,” she added.
Parliament has summoned senior officials from the Ministry of Lands and the National Land Commission (NLC) to clarify the ownership of the land where the iconic Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) is situated.
Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome, Principal Secretary Nixon Korir, and NLC Chair Gershom Otachi are scheduled to appear before the National Assembly Public Investment Committee (PIC) on Commercial and Energy next week to address the matter.
Pokot South MP David Pkosing, who chairs the committee, emphasized the urgency of resolving the land title issue concerning the convention center. “This matter is critical to our country; the accounting officer is the PS for Lands. The NLC is an interested party; please ensure they do not interfere. What we need is the title that belongs to KICC,” Pkosing stated.
PS Korir had previously appeared before the committee to respond to audit queries regarding the irregular disposal of land owned by the Kenya Pipeline Company. However, he requested additional time to provide a comprehensive explanation about the KICC land issue.
The committee had previously raised concerns about an alleged attempt by NLC officials to alienate the prime land. The Auditor General revealed that the title deed for the land is not registered under KICC, which is a state corporation under the Tourism Ministry.
The disclosure showed that NLC officials had transferred authority over the land to the Nairobi County Government, despite KICC falling under the national government.
In July 2022, a court directed the NLC to allocate the land to its rightful owners, prompting KICC to apply for ownership. Lawmakers questioned how the NLC concluded that the land was vested in the county government instead of the national government.
A letter from the Head of Public Service to the Lands Cabinet Secretary clarified that the disputed land has been gazetted as a national monument and is part of the corporation.
Additionally, in 2020, KANU filed a case with the Environment and Land Court seeking to reclaim the land. The party argued that the land had been allocated to them in May 1969 by the Commissioner of Lands.
KANU claimed that it held an indefeasible title to the land under Section 26 of the Land Registration Act, No. 3 of 2012, and contended that the government’s takeover in February 2003 was unlawful and uncompensated.
Justice Mogeni’s ruling clarified that the government repossessed the plot in 1971 and allocated funds to complete the building, which Kenya’s first president, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, officially opened in September 1973. Despite KANU’s claims, the court confirmed that the government had managed and maintained the complex using public funds.
Rafael Nadal will make his return to Grand Slam tennis following hip surgery at the 2024 Australian Open, says tournament chief Craig Tiley.
Spain’s 22-time Grand Slam champion has been out of action since January and underwent surgery in June.
Nadal, 37, has said he plans to retire at the end of the 2024 season.
According to Tiley, former women’s champions Naomi Osaka, Angelique Kerber and Caroline Wozniacki also plan to return after maternity breaks.
Nadal has been sidelined since injuring his hip flexor in a second-round defeat by Mackenzie McDonald at January’s Australian Open.
In announcing he would miss the French Open for the first time in 19 years – the tournament where he has won 14 of his majors – Nadal said next year will “probably” be the last year of his career.
“We can reveal exclusively here that Rafa will be back,” Tiley said.
“He’s been off for most of the year and in talking to him over the last few days he confirmed he will be back, which we’re really excited about, the champion of 2022. That’s awesome.”
While Nadal is back on court, those close to him say that it is too early to confirm whether he will be in Melbourne in January.
His representative Benito Perez-Barbadillo confirmed Nadal is back practising but added “there is no date confirmed, scheduled or programmed yet for his comeback”.
Two-time Australian Open champion Nadal claimed his most recent Slam at Roland Garros in 2022. Novak Djokovic has since taken his leading men’s tally to 24.
On the expected return of Osaka, Kerber and Wozniacki, Tiley added: “We’ll welcome them – and their families – back to Melbourne with open arms and can’t wait to see what their next chapter brings.”
However, speaking in 2017, Tiley had said there was “no question” Serena Williams would be ready to feature at the 2018 tournament, despite having only had a baby that September, and she did not play.
The Australian Open will become a 15-day event for the first time in 2024 in an attempt to reduce the number of late-night finishes at Melbourne Park.
At the 2023 tournament, Novak Djokovic won a record-extending 10th title and Aryna Sabalenka won her first Grand Slam singles title.
A Nigerian single mother, @SimplyKittan, shared a powerful before-and-after transformation on TikTok, depicting her journey from tough times to triumph.
included a nostalgic image of her facing challenges with her baby and a subsequent picture showcasing an elegant transformation.
The caption revealed that the same man who once kicked her out now expressed a desire to bring her and the child back into his life.
resonated deeply with many online, highlighting the strength and resilience of the mother.
Awudome Tsito (V/R), June 24, GNA – Politicians have been advised to stop taking advantage of the vulnerability of the youth for their selfish and parochial interests.
He explained that “the helpless state of the youth places them at the mercy of politicians who exploit their vulnerability for their personal political gains.”
Rev. Samuel Amegboe, Awudome Head Pastor of the Assemblies of God Church gave the advice in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Awudome Tsito in the Ho West district.
He stated that over the years politicians had only paid lip-service to addressing youth unemployment and its resultant issues.
Rev. Amegboe called on them to help the youth to add value to themselves to enable them to become self-dependent and responsible citizens.
He also cautioned them against taking the Ghanaian electorate for granted.
Rev. Amegboe noted that the country had gone through three failed democratic eras which were 1957 – 1966, 1969 – 1972, and 1979 – 1981.
“Our politicians need to think through the underlying factors that contributed to those failures in order to avoid repeating them,” he stated.
Rev. Amegboe noted with concern that it seemed politicians had forgotten “those dark days in our history and are committing the same things that led to those dark days.”
He alleged that corruption which was known as “kalabule” in the 1970s and 1980s was now rampant and flourishing with impunity.
The Reverend Minister said corruption was the major reason that the military interfered with the country’s democracy adding that politicians should be mindful of their conducts.
He advised the youth to shun those “manipulative self-seekers” and build a future for themselves.
He warned them not to engage in activities that would breach the “peace we are all enjoying in the country.”
Rev. Amegboe appealed to Christians not to turn away from their Civic and democratic responsibilities but with prayer and watchful eyes should vote while bearing in mind the values of the kingdom of God.
He entreated Christians who were involved in the running of the Electoral processes that they were also accountable to God and not the electorate alone.
“Be guided by a clear conscience that is tilted towards God than any man,” he advised.

The Aflao Circuit Court in the Volta Region, presided over by Joseph Ofosu Behome has sentenced a 39-year-old man, Klutsey Korledzo to 20 years imprisonment in hard labour for having sexual intercourse with his daughter and getting her pregnant.
The accused was convicted on the charge of incest under section 105 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
According to the Prosecutor, Police Inspector Albert Kumbor, on January 28, 2024, the complainant (name withheld) brought his 16-year-old niece (victim) to the Agavedzi Police Station and reported that the victim disclosed to him that her father had sexual intercourse with her on multiple occasions between November and December 2023.
The Prosecutor explained to the court that the complainant said Korledzo forcibly had multiple sexual intercourse with the victim, when her mother was away on a business trip.
He said the victim confided in the complainant that the convict threatened to kill her if she dared tell anyone about the act, and the victim was suspected to be pregnant, thus, a police medical report was issued to the complainant to send her to the hospital for examination.
He said the report from the Ketu South Municipal Hospital confirmed that the victim was pregnant for two months.
However, the police went to arrest Korledzo, who confessed to the crime, detained him for investigation and later arraigned him before the Court on Friday, where he was convicted on his own plea.
A United States Army Major, Kojo Owusu Dartey, currently assigned to Fort Liberty, has been found guilty by a federal jury on multiple charges of dealing in firearms without a license, delivering firearms without notice to the carrier, smuggling goods from the United States and illegally exporting firearms without a license.
He was also charged with making false statements to an agency of the United States, making false declarations before the court, and conspiracy. Owusu Dartey, age 42, faces a maximum penalty of 240 months when sentenced on July 23, 2024.
The firearms which were concealed within blue barrels of rice and household goods were smuggled to Ghana.
“We are partnering with law enforcement agencies across the globe to expose international criminals – from money launderers to rogue international arms traffickers capable of fueling violence abroad,” said U.S Attorney Michael Easley.
“Through a partnership with Ghanaian officials, this rogue Army Major was convicted at trial after smuggling guns to Ghana in blue barrels of rice and household goods.
“I want to thank the Ghana Revenue Authority and the International Cooperation Unit Office of the Attorney-General of Ghana for their assistance in the investigation. I also commend the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) attachés to U.S. Embassy Accra and the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of International Affairs of the Department’s Criminal Division for their significant assistance to this prosecution.”
“Far from being a victimless crime, firearms trafficking threatens public safety across our nation and beyond,” said Toni M. Crosby, Special Agent in Charge of the ATF Baltimore Field Division. “The Baltimore Field Division is proud to partner with the Ghana Revenue Authority and ATF’s Charlotte and Louisville Field Divisions for this investigation, which has kept firearms off the streets — preventing them from being used in any number of killings and other crimes — and ended this international firearm trafficking scheme.”
According to court records and evidence presented at trial, between June 28 and July 2, 2021, Dartey purchased seven firearms in the Fort Liberty area and tasked a U.S. Army Staff Sergeant at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, to purchase three firearms there and send them to Dartey in North Carolina.
Dartey then hid all the firearms, including multiple handguns, an AR15, 50-round magazines, suppressors, and a combat shotgun inside blue barrels underneath rice and household goods and smuggled the barrels out of the Port of Baltimore, Maryland, on a container ship to the Port of Tema in Ghana.
The Ghana Revenue Authority recovered the firearms and reported the seizure to the DEA attaché in Ghana and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Baltimore Field Division. At the same time, Dartey was a witness in the trial of U.S. v. Agyapong.
A case that involved a 16-defendant marriage fraud scheme between soldiers on Fort Liberty and foreign nationals from Ghana that Dartey had tipped off officials to. In preparation for the trial, Dartey lied to federal law enforcement about his sexual relationship with a defence witness and lied on the stand and under oath about the relationship.
Michael Easley, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, announced after Chief U.S. District Judge Richard E. Myers II accepted the verdict.
The ATF, Army Criminal Investigation Division and the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Office of Export Enforcement investigated the case.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Gabriel J. Diaz prosecuted it with technical assistance from David Ryan, DOJ Counterintelligence and Export Control Section.
Leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana, Percival Kofi Akpaloo, has deflated former President John Mahama’s argument that he left Ghana in a better shape than what we have now.
Former President Mahama recently, on his campaign tour, said that he bequeathed a more resilient and better economy to the Akufo-Addo administration, but things have deteriorated after almost eight years in power.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s flagship show, Ekosiisen, Kofi Akpaloo, however, disagreed with the former president.
According to Mr. Akpaloo, things have rather improved and gotten better under the current administration.
“I agree with Mahama that this is not the Ghana he left for us. When he was leaving, there was no implementation of Free SHS. When leaving, the Kumasi-Accra road which is under construction now, was in a very bad shape” he stated.
Things have changed in Ghana, Kofi Akpaloo stated. “Go to Adugyama today and witness the construction of an Agenda 111 Hospital project. Every senior high school is full today with students with lots of facilities provided by this government”
“Apprentices in sewing and hairdressing have reduced considerably as a result of the implementation of the Free SHS programme,” he added.
“The Kumasi-Obuasi road, (Anhweankwanta) has been constructed under this regime. Ghana has indeed changed for the better under Akufo-Addo” Mr Akpaloo indicated.
He continued; “Ghana has changed so much under Akufo-Addo that the Bolgatanga-Bawku road has been constructed. The Abirem to Nkawkaw road has been constructed. Ghana has truly changed”
He urged Mr Mahama to stop wishing doom and failure upon this administration as that constitutes political witchcraft.
He asked Mahama to tell Ghanaians what he would add to the massive developments and changes Ghana has seen under the presidency of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in case he is elected as president again.
Former world champions Norway rediscovered their form and ferocity in the nick of time as Sophie Haug’s hat-trick helped them hammer the Philippines to reach the last 16 of the 2023 Fifa Women’s World Cup.
Having failed to win in their opening two games and with star Caroline Graham Hansen criticising the decision to leave her out of the side, Hege Riise’s faltering team were in serious danger of finishing bottom of a group they were expected to breeze through.
But with Hansen restored to the side and the bit between her teeth in Auckland’s Eden Park, the Grasshoppers tore into their poor opponents to get the win that sees them finish second in Group A and sends the Philippines home.
Haug got the ball rolling in just the sixth-minute courtesy of a neatly taken back-post volley before then doubling her and her side’s tally 11 minutes later via a looping header.
Hansen underlined her importance with the third, scoring with a superb low shot from range – a key goal that gave Norway complete control of their fate, regardless of the scoreline in the other final group game between Switzerland and co-hosts New Zealand.
Norway then put the outcome completely to bed with two goals early in the second half – a bundled own goal from the unfortunate Alicia Barker and a Guro Reiten penalty.
The Philippines’ woes were compounded when substitute Sofia Harrison was sent off less than 10 minutes after coming on following a VAR review on a late challenge on Thea Bjelde.
In the middle of 11 added minutes, Haug completed her treble with another header and could have had a fourth but steered a sliding effort against the post.
Norway will now face the winner of Group C – which will be either Spain or Japan – in the last 16 in Wellington on 5 August.
Switzerland topped Group A after drawing with New Zealand in the other game played on Sunday.
The Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana has suspended a planned 15% increment in transport fares which was to take effect on Monday, July 22, 2024.
The planned 15% hike in transport fares by the concerned Drivers Association of Ghana was attributed to the rising cost of fuel and other essentials such as spare parts for the transport business.
However, the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), urged commuters to disregard the announcement.
Public Relations Officer of the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana, David Agboado, in an interview with Citi Business News explained that the timing for the increment will compound the woes of the public, thus necessitating the suspension
“We the transport operators have sat together and do our own thing. We have come to the understanding that things have been increased…fuel, spare parts and everything is up but this is not the time that we should increase the transport fare that is why we have come together to say we won’t increase it again.
“If you ask me, transport fares will not be going up because we the transporters have understood ourselves,” he stated.
David Agboado has meanwhile urged commercial drivers to continue charging old fares until an appropriate time to increase fares.
“What I will tell my fellow drivers is that they should exercise patience. It is we that increased. They have appointed us to do that and we are doing that in their interest. This one too is in their interest and we are doing it so they should exercise patience. They shouldn’t get angry. The right time will come,” he said.

Tensions are running high in the Akuapem South constituency of the Eastern Region as Member of Parliament Osei Bonsu Amoah steps down from the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primaries, sparking anger due to allegations of orchestrating the disqualification of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Frank Aidoo.
In a letter dated January 19, 2024, addressed to the Eastern Regional Secretariat, OB Amoah officially withdrew from the parliamentary candidacy, requesting the removal of his name from the ballot papers for the upcoming primaries scheduled on January 27,2024.
“I write to inform you that I have decided to withdraw as a candidate for the election of a parliamentary candidate for the General Election in 2024 in Akuapem South constituency. I respectfully request that in accordance with the Public Elections Regulations 2016. C.I.94 , my name should be deleted on the ballot paper for the election. I am most grateful and count on your corporation”. The letter by OB Amoah stated.
A month prior, Starr News reported that OB Amoah’s decision to pick a nomination form seemingly aimed at disqualifying MCE Frank Aidoo, creating an opportunity for his former special aide Eric Yeboah Apeadu to secure a victory.
Despite refuting claims during vetting in Koforidua that he would withdraw if the MCE were disqualified, OB Amoah’s recent withdrawal has intensified concerns and accusations of political maneuvering.
The Akuapem South parliamentary primaries will now feature contestants Kwame Ofori-Gyau, Eric Samuel Annor-Mensah, and Eric Yeboah Apeadu.
However, discontent within the party ranks in the constituency is palpable, with members expressing dissatisfaction over OB Amoah’s alleged role in the MCE’s disqualification before stepping down.
Party members are urging the Regional and National Executives to reinstate the MCE into the race for a fair opportunity emphasizing the need for unity within the party as they approach the primaries.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor has commenced an investigation into the government’s payroll system.
In its half-year report released on December 29, 2023, the OSP stated that its assessment and investigation are aimed at removing non-existent names and recovering wrongful payments.
It cautioned that persons suspected to be culpable of committing any offence will be prosecuted.
“The Office has commenced corruption risk assessment and investigation into suspected corruption and corruption-related offences in respect of the Government of Ghana payroll administration. The assessment and investigation are especially aimed at isolating and removing non-existent names, recovering wrongful payments, and the prosecution of persons suspected to be culpable for any offence(s).”
The OSP emphasized that it is collaborating with the Controller and Accountant General’s Department to conduct the investigation. “A joint project team of selected staff of the two institutions has been formed for the purpose,”
OSP stated in its report. The investigation and assessment, according to the OSP, cover all banks and employees on the government payroll.
“The exercise is being carried out in two phases. Phase I covers the Ghana Education Service and the health institutions. Phase II covers all other Metropolitan/Municipal/District Assemblies, Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.”
The Office said it is also investigating one hundred and fifty-two (152) other cases at various levels of consideration.
“These would be publicised if the Special Prosecutor determines that they are within the mandate of the Office and that they should be moved past the preliminary investigation stage. This is a policy intended to protect the privacy of individuals and the business operations of institutions and companies, and to avoid unnecessary stigmatisation.
Ghanaian talented battle rapper, Strongman has hit hard at rappers like Kweku Smoke and Medikal citing them to be fraud boys who are cleansing their stolen money with music.
According to him, rappers that brokeshame him are not richer than himself. He went on to add that they are fraud boys and not musicians.
Strong Gee asserted that he gets his money from music and that if they do 100% music , they would be at his back.
“If They could do music like me, they won’t be game boys”, Strongman added.
Professor Bolaji Akinyemi, a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, asserts that President Bola Tinubu and Ecowas adopted a strong stance against the Niger Coup to deter potential military coups in other African countries. In a video (21:14) during an interview with Channels TV, he emphasized that Ecowas needed to take decisive action to prevent a hunger for power among military personnel in other nations.
“It’s important to avoid a Domino effect, with the Niger Coup setting a precedent,” he cautioned. The actions taken by soldiers in other African nations might be influenced by the events in Niger. The only effective countermeasure to prevent the spread of coup attempts would be a successful resolution of the Niger coup situation. Ecowas conveyed its stance that the Niger coup had crossed a critical threshold. The coup in Niger seems to have been largely driven by a sense of self-preservation.

Leicester City have sacked manager Brendan Rodgers following a fifth defeat in six Premier League matches.
The Foxes dropped into the relegation places with a 2-1 defeat by Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Rodgers was appointed in February 2019 and led the club to its first FA Cup triumph in 2021.
But in a statement, chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha said performances and results this season have been “below our shared expectations”.
“It had been our belief that continuity and stability would be key to correcting our course, particularly given our previous achievements under Brendan’s management,” he added.
“Regrettably, the desired improvement has not been forthcoming and, with 10 games of the season remaining, the board is compelled to take alternative action to protect our Premier League status.
“The task ahead of us in our final 10 games is clear. We now need to come together – fans, players and staff – and show the poise, quality and fight to secure our position as a Premier League club.”
Rodgers led Leicester to consecutive fifth-place finishes in his first two full seasons as Foxes boss, as well as beating Chelsea to lift the FA Cup in 2021.
But his side began the 2022-23 campaign with seven defeats from their opening 10 Premier League games, slumping to the bottom of the table before a run of four wins from five games going into the World Cup break.
They have struggled since the season resumed, however, collecting just seven points from 33 available.
The Parliamentary candidate (PC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Amenfi East constituency of the Western Region, Ernest Frimpong, has denied endorsing illegal mining activities in the area.
According to him, he is a victim of circumstance and that his comments were taken out of context.
Mr. Frimpong stated emphatically that, he never endorsed illegal mining known in local parlance as ‘galamsey’ during a recent engagement with artisanal small-scale miners in the constituency.
Addressing this misinformation in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, he stressed that he has never supported illegal mining in any form.
“Some people have created the impression that I incited the miners, but I only echoed their sentiments regarding the fear and panic caused by certain individuals. I never supported illegal mining activities in any form” he said.
Mr. Frimpong said he only met with small-scale miners to address their concerns.

Rescue efforts are ongoing in Nigeria’s north-western Kebbi state after a passenger boat capsized on the River Niger.
Officials have told the BBC that four bodies have so far been recovered and 25 people have been rescued.
It is not clear how many people were on board the vessel when it overturned on Monday in strong currents common during the rainy season.
Some reports suggest it may have been carrying 50 passengers.
Such boats are often overloaded and accidents are common on poorly regulated waterways.
In June this year at least 106 people drowned in the River Niger in south-western Kwara state when a boat with more than 300 passengers sank.

According to SaharaReporters, court documents from the US connected Tinubu to a drug trafficking case, which led to his eventual forfeiture of $460,000 to the US authorities.
Obi claimed in his petition to the Presidential Election Petition Court in Abuja that the election was marked by several irregularities, the APC candidate’s non-qualification.
He contends that Tinubu’s loss of assets to the US government following a drug trafficking accusation is proof that the former governor of Lagos State broke the law and should be disqualified from standing for office in Nigeria. According to SaharaReporters, court documents from the US connected Tinubu to a narcotics trafficking case, which led to his eventual forfeiture of $460,000 to the US authorities.
On February 18, 2009, the newspaper was able to get actual copies of the verdict in the case of the United States versus Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in which the ‘President-elect’ was accused of huge drug trafficking and money laundering along with other defendants.
The news report from September 16, 2008, How US Federal Authorities successfully Connected Tinubu to Drug Trafficking Ring in Chicago, is directly related to (and further documents) this judgment.
According to the US’s verified complaint of forfeiture, which was represented by Michael J. Shepard, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, “Beginning as early as 1998, Adegboyega Mueez Akande, with others, operated an which distributed white heroin, a controlled substance under Title 21 of the United States Code.
Bola Tinubu finally chose a negotiated settlement with the US government following extensive litigation in which Tinubu maintained that the funds lawfully belonged to him, his wife, Oluremi Tinubu, and his surrogate mother, one Alhaja Mogaji.
Obi based this assertion in his petition on the argument that Tinubu was ineligible to run for office at the time of the election.

The theme for this year’s awareness campaign is “Rabies all for 1, One Health for All.”
Despite these efforts, he acknowledged the challenge of achieving the ambitious goal of eradicating rabies by 2030 due to low vaccination coverage and the large number of pets that go unvaccinated each year.
Dr. Akandi urged all stakeholders to unite and intensify their efforts to reduce the prevalence of the disease, if not eliminate it entirely.
National Rabies Ambassador, Aiko Adade, in an interview with Adom News, stressed the significance of celebrating the event in the Oti Region.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has played down his decision to replace England goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale with David Raya against Everton on Sunday.
Raya, who joined on loan from Brentford this summer, started his Premier League debut for Arsenal in their 1-0 win.
Ramsdale played in all 38 of the Gunners’ league games last season.
“It’s the same rationale that Fabio [Vieira] played here or Eddie [Nketiah] played instead of Gabriel Jesus,” Arteta said.
“I haven’t had a single question on why Gabriel Jesus hasn’t started and he’s won more trophies than anyone, including me, in that dressing room.
“I cannot have two players like this in one position and not play them. David has tremendous qualities like Aaron has, like Karl [Hein] has, but we have to use them you know.”
Arsenal will make their first Champions League appearance since the 2016-17 season against PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday before playing Tottenham in Sunday’s north London derby.
Arteta suggested he will continue to rotate Ramsdale and Spain’s Raya and added there had been previous occasions during his Arsenal tenure when he wanted to switch goalkeepers mid-match.
“I didn’t have the courage to do it. But I’m able to take a winger, or a striker, or a central defender or to drop to a five and hold that result,” Arteta said.
“We drew those games and I was so unhappy.
“Why? Why not? [change the keeper]. We have all the qualities in another goalkeeper to do something when something is happening and you want to change momentum. Do it. Now my feeling is to get everybody engaged in the team. They have to play, regardless of the competition. We have to do it.”
‘Too early to understand Arteta’s decision’
Ex-Manchester City and QPR defender Nedum Onuoha said it is “too early” to understand Arteta’s decision to swap in Raya for Ramsdale.
“I was surprised and I did feel a bit for Ramsdale,” Onuoha told the Football Daily podcast.
“It is too early to understand the why because I need to see who he is going to pick midweek in the Champions League, who he is going to pick for the game against Spurs and whether this is going to be for a prolonged period or whether it’s going to be a week-by-week basis which I don’t think would benefit either of them.”
Former Tottenham and Fulham full-back Stephen Kelly added: “As a defender I don’t think you are worried about it if the player coming in is as equal or as good as the player going out. That’s the difference.
“We’ve been in teams where there is a certain number one and a certain number two. When the number two came in, you wouldn’t be worried about them but you would need to protect them a bit more.
“This is like for like. You are not changing anything when it comes to quality.”
The Electoral Commission has pledged its commitment to uphold integrity and professionalism during Ejisu by-election today, Tuesday, April 30, 2024.
The Director of Electoral Services at the Electoral Commission, Dr Serebour Quaicoe, speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express, assured Ghanaians and candidates alike of a transparent and efficient electoral process.
“As the Electoral Commission, we will also do our best to maintain our integrity. To do what we are known to do best. So we can promise all Ghanaians and the candidates that we will do professional work,” he said on Monday.
Amidst security concerns, the Director emphasised that the police service is actively engaged in ensuring law and order in Ejisu.
He revealed that the highest ranks of the Ghana Police Service at the national level are stationed in the constituency, collaborating closely with the Ashanti Regional Police Command.
This concerted effort aims to replicate the successful security measures implemented during the Kumawu by-election in 2023.
“God will ensure peace in Ejisu through the police. The security is being handled by the national, so the directors of the police at the national level are all in Ejisu constituency.
“They are teaming up with the Ashanti Regional Command but the security will be handled on the national level just like it was handled in Kumawu. They are here in huge numbers,” he said.
Electorates of Ejisu are set to cast their vote to select a new Member of Parliament following the death of the late John Kumah.
A total of 106,812 registered voters are expected to cast their ballots in 204 polling stations across the constituency to select their new lawmaker.
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has vetoed the use of hotels for the post-budget workshop this year, citing the current financial challenges facing the country.
This decision follows Deputy Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin’s announcement on Friday, November 10, that the workshop would be held at Rock City Hotel, owned by the Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Bryan Acheampong.
Presenting the business statement for the week, Afenyo-Markin stated, “The usual post-budget workshop would be organized to allow experts to elucidate further on the underpinnings of the Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the Government to Hon. Members. The workshop is expected to be held from Friday, 17 to Sunday, 19th November 2023 at the Rock City Hotel, Kwahu Nkwatia in the Eastern Region.”
However, on Monday, November 13, the Speaker of Parliament expressed concerns about the development, noting that the public was against imposing an additional financial burden on the state coffers.
He clarified that the House did not decide on using Rock City as the venue for the post-budget review, adding that even though Volta Serene and Rock City presented their invoices, the latter was quite expensive, hence the reason he won’t go with it.
“I believe that democracy has finally decided and the people have prevailed on their representatives to decide that this year’s post-budget workshop be held here in parliament.
“Reporting on Saturday early in the morning, we will use the floor of the house as the main conference,” he said.
The galamsey menace refuses to die, in as much as the powerful players cited in the act refuse to be truthful to themselves and Ghanaians with persistent rebuttal of Prof Frimpong Boateng’s findings that implicated these stakeholders. As for the President of the Republic, his commitment to the fight against galamsey may have gone beyond conjectural comics to an established mistrust from many Ghanaians who believed in his pre-election vows and decision to fight galamsey in all of its ramifications.
Ministers of State complicated in the act, may use all the powers at their disposal to brand the lone crusader, Prof. Frimpong Boateng a traitor, a liar, a Machiavellian and other unpleasant additive. Gabby Otchere-Darko, the President’s cousin has even threatened to sue the learned surgeon at the law court. In fact, he is gone to the court to deal with the Prof for “maligning his persona.” Many Ghanaian legal brains who support the Prof’s galamsey crusade have offered for free, their legal expertise to te distinguished Heart Surgeon when hearing of the case begins.
Other government officials like Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Information Minister, Captain Kodah, the top Security Advisor to the President, Nii Teiko Tagoe, a Presidential Staffer, Lord Commey, the Operations Commander at the presidency are likely to follow in tow with Gabby’s action. It’s maybe, a stoical show of a mere bravado to send the signal to the Ghanaian people that their hands are clean: “So, Mother Earth cannot fault us; our Saintly Rivers shall never have problems against us and none of the Natural Bodies will demand any blood from us out of the many who may have died out of the galamsey pits.”
Unfortunately, all these natural bodies refuse to rest, perhaps until the final truth is unraveled: Is Prof Frimpong Boateng lying? Who else in the saga could be holding up the truth? What is the position of the President in the unfolding melodrama? Under-cover investigations by this author have uncovered how the President was kept out of the reach of the author of the galamsey destruction report— Prof Frimpong Boateng, on many occasions he had tried to brief the President on his findings.
Or is it that the President indeed, had the report; but did not treat it as important as any other classified information? And that some reports going round suggest that the President did not know about the report, is just one of the propaganda stunts being put up by his aides to absolve him (President) of shielding people involved in the act? The other hypothetical question is “how can the President claim he was not aware of a report that had been at the presidency for more than two years?
Perhaps, the following under-ground investigations by this reporter will put the matter into proper perspective. Let go! As an elderly person with reasonability and respect towards authority, Prof Boateng first decided to meet the President to brief him about the way his own people— inner cabinet crew, were deeply involved in galamsey. Of course, in the protocol chain, Prof Frimpong Boateng needed to book his appointment with the President. The person involved will then agree with the Head of State the time to meet any such person who may not be a part of the daily routine office attendants at the Jubilee House.
In this case, even the wife of the principal cannot just rush to the office of his husband during official duties. During his preliminary attempts, this writer’s investigations showed, Prof Boateng tried on eight occasions to get through to the President to have a personal briefing with him. The purpose of the meeting, as I discovered, was to brief the President about the involvement of the stated individuals. He (Prof Frimpong Boateng) was however shielded away from His Excellency by some of the very people who are themselves kingpins in the galamsey business and are also the very Gate Keepers at the presidency.
The Heart Surgeon specialist, his close associate told this author made more than seven attempts to get the President through his (President’s) personal mobile phone, but all to no avail. “What even surprises Prof the most is that the President would not even pick his calls. He was really worried because the situation made him to conclude that the people around the President may have fed the President with lies about him,” one source disclosed.
Nonetheless, Prof Frimpong-Boateng, according to associates, kept pressing believing that he could get to the President. Now after some eight other attempts to get to the President proved futile, he decided to present his finding to the President through proxies, Chief Staff, Frema Opare and the President’s security head at the presidency, Captain Kodah. But again, Prof Boateng was not surprised that after presenting his findings to the Presidency, he could still not hear from the President, the Chief of Staff nor others, within the presidential chain whom he presented the report.
But when the issue became public, the President was said to have expressed disappointment at Prof Frimpong Boateng. In the opinion of the President, Prof Frimpong Boateng should have hinted him about his findings or waited for the Government White Paper on the report. Within the public domain however, the concern been expressed is how the President kept the two-year report without any action and that begets the argument that “Prof Frimpong Boateng should have waited for the White Paper report on the findings.” Yet there are others within the presidency who support the claim that His Excellency did not get the report and only read bits and pieces of the report in the media.

Aspiring Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama will resume his nationwide campaign after the Easter festivities on Tuesday, with a three-day visit to the Eastern Region.
Mr. Mahama will visit thirty-one (31) constituencies where he will meet and interact with branch and constituency executives. He has so far toured 7 regions, touching ground in 106 constituencies.
In the Eastern Region, former President Mahama will speak about his vision of “Building the Ghana we want together,” and why securing a convincing win in the NDC primaries will be a great boost for the 2024 presidential election.
He will also share his plans towards improving the party’s polling and electoral area campaign, through voter mobilizing and canvassing, and the effective utilization of campaign materials and resources.
Mr. Mahama has announced a reward scheme to recognize branches of the party that increase their polling station votes in both the parliamentary and presidential elections.
From the Eastern Region, ex-President Mahama will spend a day touring some constituencies in the Greater Accra Region on Friday, April 14, before heading to the Oti Region.
The Director of Research at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) Dr John Kwakye has wondered whether Ghana needs the capital markets to deal with its financial issues.
In his view, the country does not need the capital market because with the right leaders in place, the country can generate enough from its natural resources.
Dr Kwakye tweeted “We have more than enough natural resource wealth. We only need leaders who will exploit it for our benefit and not give it away to so-called foreign investors.
“We are sitting on trillions of dollars of natural resource wealth, but we are in Washington begging for $3bn over 3 years. Paul Kagame is right in saying that ‘there must be something wrong with our minds,’.”
We are sitting on trillions of dollars of natural resource wealth, but we are in Washington begging for $3bn over 3 years. Paul Kagame is right in saying that “there must be something wrong with our minds.”
He was commenting on a statement by the Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta that it may take at least three or more years for Ghana to access the international capital market.
Mr Ofori-Atta explained that, although this new development may look like a challenge, it presents the country with a viable opportunity to attain its self-sufficiency agenda.
“In terms of returning to the international capital market, I suspect it will take some two-three years or so if not more for us to get back to it. I think in the interim we should be able to generate local resources to do that. But I think what is also significant about the programme if you look at the Ghana Cares programme it is our policy to be self-sufficient in poultry, rice, tomatoes etc. which we’ve begun to do so that will reduce your foreign exchange demands and actually hopefully begin to export those products,” Ken Ofori-Atta made this known in an engagement with the media on the sideline of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Spring meeting in Washington DC.
It is recalled that during the COVID-19 pandemic, Ghana’s public debt increased significantly.
This resulted in credit rating downgrades, the exit of non-resident investors from the domestic bond market, and ultimately Ghana’s loss of access to international capital markets.
The impacts were further escalated by price and supply-chain shocks from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, have led to a large exchange rate depreciation, a surge in inflation, and pressure on foreign exchange reserves.
On December 19, 2022, faced with major economic, financial, and social pressures Ghana’s Ministry of Finance declared a moratorium on debt service payments under certain categories of its external debt, such as Eurobonds.
Soon after, it restructured the bulk of its domestic debt and requested debt treatment under the G20 Common Framework.
The West African Monetary Agency has acknowledged the challenges posed by global macroeconomic shocks and the inability of member states to fully meet the criteria for the complete rollout of the ECO as the single currency in the West African sub-region by 2027.
In response, a technical committee has been tasked with reassessing the roadmap and convergence pact for member countries during the ongoing Monetary Zone Conference hosted in Accra, Ghana.
The technical committee reported that member states missed the criteria for the ECO’s rollout, which include a single-digit inflation rate at the end of each year, a fiscal deficit of no more than 4% of GDP, and a central bank deficit-financing of no more than 10% of the previous year’s tax revenues.
“Turning to our compliance with the ECOWAS convergence criteria, the roadmap for the launch of the ECO requires Member States to consistently meet all the four primary convergence criteria by 2026. In 2022, only two Member States, Guinea and Liberia, met the budget deficit criterion. However, performance on the average annual inflation criterion sharply declined, with only Benin and Niger meeting the target. The central bank financing criterion also saw a deterioration in 2022, with four Member States missing the target, emphasising the need for policy reforms. Lastly, while performance on the gross external reserves criterion weakened slightly in 2022, 14 Member States still complied, showcasing the region’s resilience.”
“No Member States met all four primary convergence criteria. Four Member States (Benin, Niger, Guinea and Liberia) complied with at least three Primary Convergence Criteria.”
The Director General of the West African Monetary Agency, Momodou Bamba Saho, charged the committee with deliberating on strategic reforms to address these missed targets by member countries.
“While we have made strides in certain areas, there is a clear need for enhanced strategies and reforms to ensure all Member States align with our shared goals. Together, we can navigate these challenges and lay the foundation for a prosperous ECOWAS.”
Fella Makafui, a Ghanaian actress and businesswoman, has assertively stated that GHC 50,000 is not a major sum for her and that she can easily dash it out.
The actress reveals in an interview with blogger Zion Felix that she would be willing to give away such a large sum of money without feeling stressed.

The topic of conversation was Fella’s recent assertion that a former worker had supposedly fled with exactly GHC 50,000. She explains her emotional response and makes it clear that the focus of her rant was not the actual stolen money.

Instead, it stemmed from the hurt caused by someone she had been exceptionally kind to. Fella had not anticipated such betrayal from an employee she had treated well. Although she was venting out of pain, she acknowledges that money is just money and that she could easily give it away to anyone.
“The reason why I was venting was not even about the fact that she stole the money. It was about the fact that na me y3 no papa paa [I was good to her]. Like I was so good to her, so coming from someone like her, I was just hurt. I did not expect an employee that was so good to hurt you like that. I was venting out of pain but at the end of the day, it’s money. That money, I could dash it to anyone,” she said.
Zion Felix questions her further about how she was able to part with such a substantial sum after being taken aback by her honest admission.
Fella responds with assurance, pointing out that she has workers who are paid well. GHC 50,000 is not a money she is willing to part with carelessly. She thinks that if one is fortunate and wealthy, they can choose to be kind with their money.

Fella’s remark was in reaction to a query the blogger had made regarding her recent claim that an employee had defrauded her of GHC 50,000, which she had made public on Twitter. She adds more details to the incident by noting that the accused employee has been taken into custody.
Former Presidential staffer and political commentator Mr. P.V Jantuah Dadson is calling for the resignation of the Inspector General of the Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare for failing in the fight against illegal mining otherwise known as galamsey.
According to him, the Ghana Police Service is part of the government’s organization in the fight against galamsey after its officers were sent to various parts of the country to end the menace.
“On the issue of the galamsey fight, don’t you think it would be good for the IGP if he resigns from office?” Mr. PV Jantuah asked on Kumasi-based Angel FM monitored by MyNewsGH.com.
Mr. PV Jantuah’s calls were in reaction to a viral video that saw an officer begging a civilian for his life in a galamsey community.
The Ghana Police Service in a statement revealed they arrested four members of the gang they accused of attacking the police but the suspects also claimed the uniformed officers were extorting money from galamsey sites in Axim, a community in the Western Region.
The police also claimed the men seen in the video were robbers.
However, the leader of the gang, Kwame Asare Ato who escaped the police arrest has denied the allegation saying they are not robbers as claimed by the state security.
He also revealed that his gang worked in the area with the District Police Command in extorting money from miners and went further to reveal that, the gun he used in his operation was given to him by the police CID in the district.
Meanwhile, Mr PV Jatuah Dadson insisted that the District Police Commander of Axim should be sanctioned.
“Where did the incident happen, Axim; the IGP together with the District Police Commander should have gone home by now. The two police officers sighted in the video should have also appeared in court by now,” he said.
Mr PV Jantuah also wondered how Kwame Asare Ato the gang leader was able to seize guns and other items from the police.
He noted that the police could not do anything to save themselves from being humiliated because of the intentions they had and the fact that they have already been compromised.

Amid the ongoing uproar that has greeted the just concluded presidential election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), a public affairs analyst, Majeed Dahiru has come out to disclose that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) lost the election because they failed to zone the party’s ticket to the south-east.
Source: Arise TV
However, he also revealed that it was clear ahead of the election that the Southeast expected the PDP to reward them with the ticket after 24 years of consistent support.
While speaking during a live interview on Arise TV a few hours ago, Majeed Dahiru claimed that it would be better if the next dispensation in the party would sit down to arrange and rebuild the party in the right interest of the people.
Quoting the exact statement released by Majeed Dahiru, he said, “It was quite clear ahead of the elections that after 24 years of consistent support for the PDP by the people of the Southeast, at a time that they expected that the party should have rewarded them with the ticket of the presidential candidacy of the main opposition, the PDP did not do that and a Northerner picked it in the person of the former vice president, Atiku Abubakar. We saw the revolt coming, and the revolt indeed happened, and if you ask me rightly so that maybe the next dispensation can now sit down and re-access what has happened to it both in 2015 and 2023 with a similarly violated arrangement. Let me begin the process of rebuilding this party by giving assurances now to all its strongholds about the need to carry them along and not to take them for granted.”
Over to my esteemed readers, I know you will have something to say about Majeed Dahiru’s statement? Please make an effort to share and write down your thoughts in the comment section below.

Ho, May 8, GNA-The technical glitches that challenged the smooth start of the limited registration exercise has been overcome, according to Electoral Commission (EC).
Mr Eric Dzakpasu, Volta Regional Director of EC disclosed to the Ghana News Agency that all the 18 District Offices had resumed registration, including 18 mobile teams and additional two centres stationed at University of Health and Allied Science and Ho Technical University in the region.
He said there were six permanent district offices to service inaccessible electoral areas.
He said some Districts had been categorised into three teams such as Ketu South, Ho, Hohoe, North Tongu and South Tongu to assist in the registration exercise.
He disclosed that Agotime Ziope and Akatsi South had two teams each.
The rest have a team each for the registration exercise for the 21-day activity.
Mr Michael Boadu, acting Director, Public Affairs of EC, earlier in a release disclosed that the initial challenges had been sorted and the systems across the country had begun running smoothly and urged registrants to patronise the exercise.
The limited Voter registration exercise commenced today Tuesday 07 May and would end on May 27 nationwide, to capture new applicants unto the electoral roll for the December elections.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has voiced alarm at the growing prevalence of tattooing, multiple piercings, and skin bleaching among students, describing it as a “worrying trend.”
In addition, the GES has expressed serious concerns about teenage pregnancies and cohabitation, citing their negative impact on students’ academic endeavors, particularly young girls.
During visits to various districts in the Central Region as part of the ‘Life Skills Programme,’ Priscilla Christabel Eshun, the Central Regional Girls Education Officer of the GES, noted with surprise that some students had noticeable tattoos with unconventional names and meanings.
These observations were presented during the Second Quarter Sub-Implementing Partners (IPs) Review Meeting on sexual and gender-based violence, facilitated by the Regional Coordinating Council with support from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
Eshun highlighted instances where students had excessively bleached their skin, leading to peeling and unpleasant odors.
“In one of the schools we visited, a young girl had bleached her skin to the point where it was peeling off and emitting an unpleasant smell. We also observed students with multiple piercings in their ears.
“This has become a fashion trend, and many girls are engaging in it without considering the potential health, employment, and other socio-economic consequences.”
She also mentioned the prevalence of multiple ear piercings among students, attributing these trends to fashion without considering the potential health and socio-economic consequences.
Furthermore, Eshun disclosed that many boys had dropped out of school and were operating tricycles, with investigations revealing that girls were associating with these boys for financial support.
“Regrettably, many girls are enticed into such relationships for financial gain, using the money to purchase sanitary pads and other personal items,” Eshun revealed.
Expressing regret over these developments, Eshun emphasized that the GES prohibits tattooing, multiple piercings, and skin bleaching according to its Code of Conduct for pre-tertiary school students.
“Students shall not wear chains, bangles, caps, or braces. Wearing of spectacles shall require a medical prescription.
“No alterations to school uniforms or dress shall be allowed. Possession or use of un-prescribed attire by a student is an offence,” Eshun explained.
She reiterated the importance of students dressing neatly, adhering to prescribed dress codes, avoiding accessories like chains and bracelets, and maintaining a decent haircut as defined by school authorities.
“Students should have a decent haircut as prescribed by the school authorities. Hair should be clean, neat, and modest, and avoid extremes in styles and colour. Men’s hair should be neatly struck and beard clean-shaven.”
Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has said the agency will not exclude anyone found to be involved in any form of financial or economic crime.
According to a Monday statement issued by Dele Oyewale, EFCC’s spokesperson, Olukoyede disclosed this in Abuja at an anti-corruption concert to create awareness and public involvement in the fight against internet crimes.
While committing to a “fully integrated war against corrupt practices,” he said, “We will not spare anyone. We will not spare the mega thieves. As we are doing the mega, we will also do those at the lower end.”
“In the last two months, we have arraigned two former governors. So, it is not true that we are only focused on internet fraudsters.
“Of course, internet fraud is bad enough but our focus is on every form of economic and financial crimes,” he added.
He further cautioned youths against indulging in internet-related offences, pointing out that the consequences of being convicted for such crimes are grave.
“Youths need to know that being ex-convicts has career limitations. Ex-convicts can’t run for public offices, the stigma alone is even terrible.
“I urge you to avoid internet crimes by all means. Your future is more important than any immediate gains from such crimes,” Olukoyede cautioned.
The anti-graft agency under his watch, he said, is interested in giving youths a “glorious and sustainable future.”
Quophi Okyeame, a broadcaster and musician, has revealed that he was the ghost writer for ‘Maba’, a song by Ex-Doe which was released in the late 90s.
‘Maba’ has always made it to the list of ‘diss’ songs produced by Ghanaian artistes. It was actually a song Ex-Doe did to jab Chicago after the two were locked in a duel following their misunderstanding over the ‘Daavi Mede Kuku’ song in 1996.
In the song, rapper also throws salvos at some rappers including the originator of hiplife, Reggie Rockstone.
Quophi Okyeame made the revelation when he was naming some musicians he had written songs for, in an interview with Joy FM‘s Kwame Dadzie.
“…and I wrote for Ex-Doe. This is why Reggie will never like me,” he said.
According to him, he wrote the entire ‘Maba’ song after Ex-Doe approached him with a beat that had been given to him by Nana King.
“Ex-Doe came to me in Kumasi. He actually moved from Accra, came to Kumasi. He had a beat from Nana King and was looking for what to say with it, so we brainstormed and the idea came because people were living in Accra, we were living in Kumasi, we were the kingpins of the Kumasi rap and an Accra person was claiming Presidency,” he told Joy FM.
Quophi mentioned that apart from writing all the songs for the Akyeame group, he also wrote for Becca, Dela and others.
He said he decided to pull the reins on his music career (especially on stage performances) because he had always been an introvert, a reason during their Akyeame days, he always pushed Okyeame Kwame to the fore while he stayed back to engineer things.
Since he left the Akyeame group he has released songs such as ‘Keep on Moving’, ‘Shake That Thing’, ‘One Way’, ‘Krokyia’ and ‘Ennyi Me Mma.’

Set against a backdrop of cliffside mansions, bronzed bodies, and vast ocean views – Bondi is the go-to suburb for international brands looking to launch down under.
So, when news broke on TikTok that a Crumbl Cookie pop-up was coming to Sydney’s iconic beachside hub, few raised questions.
With a host of famous fans, the US-based bakery chain – which only sells domestically and in Canada – has secured a cult-like following.
But when Australian foodies sunk their teeth into the treats, outrage spread like wildfire after it became clear they were eating days-old goods, sold by a few enterprising locals – with no connection to Crumbl – who had brought the cookies back in suitcases from Hawaii.
Adding insult to injury was the eye-watering price tag, with consumers paying A$17.50 ($12;£9) for the stale snacks, which had aged inside the belly of a commercial airline.
Labelled the great “cookie controversy” and “Crumblgate” by commentators, the doughy drama has sparked debate online – prompting calls for legal action to be taken against the sellers, as well as jabs against those willing to pay such an exorbitant amount simply to be pictured indulging in the latest trendy treat.
It even inspired a last-minute Washington Post Food review of the cookies, which ruled them “underwhelming” and “under baked”.
The saga unfolded after scores of people spent the day snaking around a commercial block in North Bondi on Sunday to secure their brightly coloured signature Crumbl box.
All of it was seemingly captured on TikTok – often in real-time – as consumer after consumer filmed themselves biting into the hardened treats, responding with a series of grimaces rather than delight.
“This is actually very bad… the texture is just weird,” one vlogger said.
“I spent A$150 on 10 cookies,” another woman blurted out mid-video, before offering a scathing review.
Another group recorded themselves simply sniffing the battered treats, before offering a ranking of 3/10.
The founder of the US company, quickly took to social media to clarify that the Australian pop-up, was not affiliated with his firm.
All of which prompted a confusing story, followed by an apology by the Sydney organisers.
In a statement, a spokesperson – who declined to give his full name – said that hundreds of the cookies had been purchased while on a trip to Hawaii and then brought back to Australia in luggage.
He said that everything the pop-up had done – including using professionally shot photographs of the sweets and mimicking the Crumbl branding – was “legal”.
And that they’d tried to adhere to the Crumbl storage requirements, which advises that the products can still be consumed after three days, if kept in an airtight container.
“We kept them to these requirements. Some were warmed to enhance their texture, which is what Crumbl does as well.
“We apologise that they don’t live up to expectations. However, they are just cookies at the end of the day,” the statement added.
The strangeness of a group of people “going on an international flight to go and procure biscuits” is not lost on Australian marketing expert Andrew Hughes, however he says the bait and switch tactics are far from new.
One recent example he pointed to was when scores of people bought tickets to a so-called Bridgerton-themed ball in Detroit, Michigan.
But instead of being met with the glitz, glamour and expensive food event organisers had promised, they were left with soggy noodles, a single violin, and a pole dancer.
To understand how these viral scams lure people in, it’s important to examine the powerful emotions elicited by the “fear of missing out” – or FOMO for short – Hughes says.
“In an age where information travel so quickly… people don’t want to be behind the curve. They act out of impulse instead of logic,” he explains.
It’s unclear whether the Crumbl spin off violated Australian consumer law, or whether those affected have grounds to act.
But beyond a few cease-and-desist letters, Hughes thinks it’s unlikely the US-brand will take further action.
“They’ll deny it. They’ll say it’s bad. But at the end of the day, it’s good publicity because it raises their brand awareness in Australia.
“All of a sudden, people who hadn’t heard of them are now talking about them.”

Nana Yaa Jantuah, former Director of Public Relations and External Affairs at the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), has called on Parliament to impeach President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
She stressed that when the President is removed from office, he will be unable to peddle untruths on serious issues confronting the country.
Naa Yaa Jantuah’s call follows President Akufo-Addo’s assertion that the erratic power supply (Dumsor), which has bedevilled the country over the past few weeks, has been resolved effectively.
President Akufo-Addo, while addressing organised labour at the annual May Day celebration in Accra yesterday [Wednesday, May 1], expressed confidence in the work done in the energy sector to ensure a stable power supply.
According to the President, the entire country did not experience load-shedding (dumsor) on Tuesday, April 30, indicating that the power situation has improved significantly.
President Akufo-Addo further noted that “issues surrounding the maintenance of the transformers have been resolved,” leading to a stable power supply across the country.
However, the former General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Yaa Jantuah, bemoaned the President’s lack of appreciation of reality.
She said, “I don’t understand the behaviour of the President…because whoever briefed him? The handlers who briefed him—did they tell him Dumsor is gone? He said Tuesday…and on Tuesday I was in Dumsor wide area, I found out…my lights were off on Tuesday 6 to 6 straight 12 hours that is Dumsor. You cannot describe it as anything but there’s a challenge in the system.”
“Nobody has dumsor on their name, the President himself does not have dumsor on his name, It is a situation that has to be resolved; there’s nothing wrong with the nation going through such a challenge. Accept the challenges and let’s all resolve them.
“Where are we going? We need to do things properly and differently…maybe somebody should impeach the president for us…so that we will not hear these things anymore. The Parliament may…that is the only way. So that when he goes to sit home, somebody should take over,” she told Naa Ashorkor on The Big Issue on TV3 New Day on Thursday.
Asked how impeaching the president would help resolve the power challenges, she said, “Then we will not hear these things, and then we will have somebody who will listen to advice; I don’t know who it is but maybe we don’t have to hear him anymore.”
“Parliament should do us a favour and let President Akufo-Addo go because he has checked out,” she noted.

The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has filed two Right to Information (RTI) requests from the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and the Registrar General’s Department on the alleged double identity of the head pastor of Power Chapel Worldwide, Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng.
Some of the requests being sought from the GRA include what action the authority is taking to address the circumstances leading to the application for and issuance of two distinct Tax Identification Numbers (TIN).
He is also seeking to know from the Registrar General what actions are being pursued over the registered companies of the Reverend Minister with two TINs over a period of 12 years.
It will be recalled that the legislator in a series of posts on social media alleged that Rev. Kusi Boateng who is also the Secretary to the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral had registered companies and had multiple passports which had the name Kwabena Adu Gyamfi.
He also revealed how two TINs were produced on different occasions and in some instances, two different dates of birth.
Mr. Ablakwa has said he started digging into the double identity of Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng when he sighted in the incorporation documents that he was one of the contractors for the project, with registration name as Kwabena Adu Gyamfi.
Mr. Ablakwa said, during his investigative piece, he discovered that JNS Talent, which was paid GH₵2.6 million belongs to the appointed Secretary of the National Cathedral Board of Trustees, Victor Kusi Boateng.
The North Tongu legislator further said that the Secretary’s expired driver’s license also bears the name Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng which was used to incorporate him into the Secretariat Board of Trustees.
The lawmaker petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to investigate Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng.
But in a response to the allegations, Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng in a statement said Mr. Ablakwa’s claims are a “twisted narration of events”, threatening to take the MP on.

Spintex Knights Basketball Club have made history as the first Ghanaian team to qualify for the Elite 16 stage of the Basketball Africa League (BAL).
Their 82-69 win over Elan Coton Benin in their first game guaranteed them a second-place finish in their group despite losing their first two games.
They lost by small margins in the other two games, 69-73 to Liberia’s Mighty Barolle Basketball Club on Saturday and 81-99 to Ivory Coast’s ABC Fighters.
Spintex Knights snatched the second place over Elan Coton and Mighty Barolle, with superior points although all three teams recorded a win and two losses. ABC Fighters topped the group with a 100% record.
The Greater Accra Basketball League champions are now within touching distance of competing in the main event hosted by the NBA and FIBA.
The Knights have surpassed the Braves of Customs, who represented Ghana in the 2019 BAL but were unable to get past the preliminary round.
Former Ghanaian international footballer, Charles Taylor, has advised Daniel Afriyie Barnieh to seek the help of a psychologist following his lackluster performance.
The former Hearts of Oak striker received criticism for his uninspiring display during the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) match against Congo on Sunday.
Barnieh was substituted at halftime, and his replacement, Emmanuel Yeboah, gained attention for scoring two goals, leading the Black Meteors to a 3-2 victory in their opening game.
Taylor attributes Barnieh’s decline in form to his struggles at the club level. Since joining FC Zurich in Switzerland, Barnieh has only played six games, two for the senior team and four for the U-21 team.
His difficulties in finding his footing there have contributed to his loss of form, which earned him a place in Ghana’s squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
“He has lost focus on the field. Unless he receives proper psychological support, his performance could deteriorate even further. If you compare his previous performances to his current state, he may even fare worse than Adiyiah,” Taylor commented on Angel TV.
Taylor draws a parallel between Barnieh’s situation and that of Dominic Adiyiah, whose career took an unexpected downturn after his standout performance in the 2009 U-20 World Cup and subsequent move to AC Milan. Barnieh captained Ghana to victory in the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Mauritania two years ago.
“Adiyiah’s situation was relatively better. Let’s consider how many matches Afriyie Barnieh has played since joining FC Zurich. We need to question what happened to him after his arrival in Zurich. He requires guidance to focus on moving forward and avoid dwelling on past glories. He is just starting out, which is why he needs to give more,” Taylor added.
Barnieh will have an opportunity to perform better today when the Black Meteors face the host country, Morocco, in their second Group A game. Kick-off is scheduled for 20:00 GMT.
Two suspects, 39-year-old Ogunjobi Ayanyemi and 42-year-old Muritala Olajire, were detained for breach of peace in Araromi Owu, Irewole LGA, Osun State.
The suspects were apprehended on Wednesday at their hideouts in various parts of Araromi Owu following a tip-off from the town’s Amotekun intelligence unit.
This was announced by the Corps Commander, CSP Adekunle Omoyele (rtd), in a statement released by the spokesperson, Yusus Idowu, in Osogbo on Saturday.
It should be noted that the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke had on Tuesday directed security personnel to take over Araromi Owu after reports of violence.
According to reports, Shittu Wasiu Kehinde, a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer stationed in the area, and one other unidentified individual were killed in the ensuing violence.
There were also reports of houses and businesses being burned before the neighbourhood was able to return to normal.

Omoyele in the statement said, “the felons were arrested at different locations in the town following a tip-off.
“The suspects’ involvement erupted from the chieftaincy crisis that ignited the killing of two people, burning of many houses and shops were vandalised.
“Amotekun operatives swung into action immediately and apprehended the culprits in their hideout in the town.
“Upon the investigation, the suspects admitted to committing the crime and mentioned other members of their gang.”
Omoyele advised locals to provide security agents with the essential information to address any potential security danger in the state.
He stated that the individuals had been turned over to the police for further questioning and prosecution.

A woman recently appeared on TV3’s program “Confession” seeking advice after discovering a hidden connection with her husband from over a decade ago.
The woman, who has been married for three years, recounted an incident that took place during their university days, which she had only now realized involved her current spouse.
The woman explained that the incident occurred at a party 12 years ago. During the party, she was dared to engage in a sexual act with two men, which escalated into a threesome involving a third man.
Unbeknownst to her at the time, one of the participants in the darkened room where the act took place was her now-husband.
The woman believes her husband did not recognize her during the encounter due to the lack of lighting.
As the memories of that night resurfaced, she now finds herself in a dilemma.
She expressed her concern about disclosing the information to her husband, fearing it could jeopardize their marriage.
Seeking guidance, she turned to the television program for advice on how to handle the situation.
“My husband and I have been together for three years now, but he doesn’t know that we actually met 12 years ago during our university days,” she shared on the show.
She continued, “At a party then, I was dared to give two guys raw intimacy (Blowjob), but things escalated and it turned into a gang bang with three guys.
“My husband was at that party and was one of the participants. It is not surprising he did not recognize me since it was a dark room.”
Accra, June 02, GNA – Mr Joe Ghartey, Member of Parliament for Essikadu-Ketan constituency and presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has picked nomination forms to contest the Party’s presidential primaries.
Mr Ernest Oti Akenteng, New Juaben North Constituency Chairman of the NPP, picked the forms on his behalf at the Party’s headquarters in Asylum Down on Thursday, June 01, 2023.
Mr Evans Nimako, the Director of Elections of the NPP, presented the forms to Mr Akenteng, who subsequently handed it to Mr Ghartey at the Osu Ebenezer Presbyterian Church.
There were several constituency executives and chairpersons of the Party who joined the Delegation to pick the forms for the presidential hopeful.
Mr Ghartey had expressed his intentions to lead the NPP into the 2024 General Election, and was determined to tackle poverty head-on upon becoming the President of the nation.
For him, it is time for Ghanaians to “fight poverty” rather than fight against one another.
Mr Ghartey, an astute lawyer and former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General, was poised to ensure that the Party moved in a new direction, which everyone regardless of his or her economic, social, religious or ethnic background could have equal opportunity.
Mr Ghartey, during his tenure as Minister of Justice and Attorney- General under President John Agyekum Kufuor’s Administration, introduced the ‘Justice For All’ programme, which freed many prisoners across the country.
Mr Ghartey, also a former Minister of Railways Development and Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament is seeking to energise the Party faithful and give young people the opportunity to serve the country should he emerge victorious in the primaries, and subsequently elected President of the Republic.
Addressing some constituency executives of the Party at Osu Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, Mr Ghartey said, he was not seeking to become the Party’s pesidential candidate or President for personal gains, but rather to serve Ghanaians and bring economic prosperity for all.
The Presidential Aspirant recounted how he had stood with the NPP through difficult times dating back to the 1990s, saying; “We have worked tirelessly for this Party.”
The Party, he said, needed an experienced person who could unite the rank and file of the Party, saying; “It’s about time politicians stop fighting against each other”.
“We must unify the country and we must unify the party,” he said.
He underscored the need for politicians to fight for the future of Ghanaian children.
Mr Ghartey is a politician some NPP constituency executives nationwide consider as the best bet to lead the Party to victory in the 2024 General Elections and build a more prosperous nation for all Ghanaians.
Mr Adams Abdul Majid, a Senior Aide to Mr Ghartey, whilst addressing the media, said the youth of the Party were solidly behind the presidential aspirant because he was a grassroots man and a transformational leader.

In an interview with Roland Walker on TV3, Kennedy Agyapong, a flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), clarified that his recent ‘strategist’ comment was not directed at Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
He stated that his remarks were actually aimed at John Kumah, who serves as a Deputy Minister of Finance and is also the Member of Parliament for Ejisu.
Agyapong emphasized that there was no intention to refer to the Vice President during his statement, contrary to public perception. He further clarified that his comments were specifically directed at John Kumah, and not at any other individual.
During the interview, Agyapong stated, “I was referring to John Kumah… I was not referring to the Vice President.” This clarification aims to address the misunderstanding that arose from his earlier statement and to ensure that Vice President Bawumia is not associated with the remarks in question.
Mr Agyapong had fired the government for the poor management of the local currency.
He stated that in March 2022, he had $40 million in Cedi equivalent, but by August of that same year, the value had dropped to $16 million because of the depreciation of the Cedi.
Although Mr Agyapong did not mention any name, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who is also the head of the economic management team and an aspiring flagbearer of the NPP is usually blamed for the poor performance of the Cedi against the major trading ones, especially the Dollar.
As part of his campaign tour of Kintampo East on Sunday, July 16 to be elected flagbearer, Ken Agyapong who is also Assin Central lawmaker said “We will have troubles if we don’t do a clean campaign because I will reply to every claim made against me.
“You call yourself a strategist but when we were taking over power the Dollar was 4 Cedis, today One Dollar is Twelve Cedis and yet you call yourself a strategist.
“In March 2022 I had 40 million Dollars in Cedi equivalent, in August 2022 the value of the 40 million dollars had dropped to 16 million.”
The ‘strategist’ comment made by Kennedy Agyapong had garnered significant attention and sparked speculation about potential political implications within the NPP. However, with this clarification, Agyapong aims to set the record straight and avoid any further confusion regarding the intended recipient of his remarks.
It remains to be seen how this clarification will impact on the internal dynamics within the NPP and the ongoing flagbearer race. As the party prepares for its upcoming conference, the statement made by Agyapong is likely to be a topic of discussion among party members and political observers.
Vice President Bawumia has not yet publicly responded to the clarification made by Kennedy Agyapong regarding the ‘strategist’ comment. It remains to be seen whether this clarification will address any concerns or potential implications arising from the initial statement.
As the NPP continues its internal processes, including the selection of a flagbearer for the upcoming elections, the clarification made by Kennedy Agyapong brings some clarity to the situation, specifically regarding the individuals being referred to in his earlier comments.
Mothers came to get their children vaccinated in Bayelsa state
Nigeria, which has more malaria deaths than any other country in the world, has begun rolling out a vaccine against the disease for the first time.
The West African nation accounts for almost a third of those who die from malaria each year.
The vaccine being introduced – called R21/Matrix-M – is the second to be approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) and is being given to children between five and 15 months old.
Researchers say it is 75% effective but health experts recommend using it alongside other malaria prevention tools, such as mosquito nets and insecticides.
The roll-out started in two of the worst-affected states – Bayelsa and Kebbi – and the plan is to expand it to the rest of the country by next year.
Happiness Idia-Wilson’s 11-month-old son was the first to receive the vaccine at a ceremony in Bayelsa.
She said she was doing it “for the safety of the child, for him to be protected”.
“I will tell mothers, and I will invite people [to be vaccinated],” the mother added.
Bayelsa’s commissioner for health, Prof Seiyefa Brisibe, said the state would be carrying out health campaigns to promote the use of the vaccine in all the local languages.
In 2022, Nigeria accounted for 27% of global malaria cases and 31% of malaria deaths, according to the WHO, with children under five and pregnant women being the most vulnerable.
Africa overall saw 95% of those deaths, amounting to some 580,000 people.
“We are confident that this vaccine, in combination with other preventive measures, will drastically reduce the burden of malaria in Nigeria and help us move closer to achieving the goal of a malaria-free Africa,” said Dr Walter Mulombo, WHO representative in Nigeria.
The government estimates that Nigeria loses $1.1bn (£870m) each year due to lost productivity and health expenditure linked to malaria.
R21/Matrix-M, developed by the Jenner Institute at Oxford University, uses three doses administered four weeks apart and a booster dose given after one year.
Earlier this year, Ivory Coast and the Democratic Republic of Congo also began using the vaccine.
Ghana, Kenya and Malawi have trialled another malaria vaccine – RTS,S.
Nigeria was not included in the subsequent roll-out of the jab by the WHO to 12 African countries.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says Arsenal will be long-term Premier League title contenders before the two sides meet in the top flight on Sunday.
Arsenal, who finished second behind City last year, are unbeaten in the league this season.
Guardiola’s side lost to Wolves last weekend but are currently one point ahead of the Gunners.
“They were the biggest rival last season and will stay there for a long time,” Guardiola said.
Asked if Arsenal will be title rivals this season, he added: “Absolutely, along with Liverpool. To analyse contenders, the idea is the first 10 games. We have to wait but big clubs are always contenders.
“Arsenal is back. When I was a young boy and starting as a manager at Barcelona I know they fought Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United team.
“Then for many years they were not there but now they’re back.
“When you see in the calendar it says you go to the Emirates [you know] it’s a tougher one.”
Arsenal have lost their past 12 league matches against City and are without a top-flight win in the fixture since 2015.
However, they beat Guardiola’s side in the Community Shield on penalties before the season began, and Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is confident his side can match that result at Emirates Stadium.
“My only worry is the quality of the opponent and on Sunday we have to be at our best for 100 minutes,” Arteta said.
“That’s what we can control and we need to focus.
“In these big games you need big players with talent who make it count. Duels are a big thing in a game which can go one way or another.”

He also promised to construct a constituency office each in all the constituencies and regional headquarters in the sixteen regions.
Mr Kwabena Duffour, commenced his campaign tour to the central region on Thursday, April 20, and met three constituencies including Awutu Senya East Constituency, Awutu Senya West Constituency and Gomoa East Constituency.

Former Big Brother Naija contestant Mercy Eke has made a candid admission about her body enhancement surgery.
She confessed that she succumbed to peer pressure and followed the trend, despite already having a naturally curvy physique.

In a recent podcast episode of “Love Is A Game” shared on Instagram Friday, Eke shared her personal experience, admitting that she had a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), liposuction, and lip augmentation in 2018.
She described the surgery as a painful process, requiring her to sleep on her stomach for two weeks and endure three days of post-operative pain.
However, Eke emphasized that the results were worth the discomfort.
She also clarified that she didn’t undergo facial surgery, attributing her beauty to natural means.

Eke shared that she kept the surgery a secret from her mother, only confiding in two close friends who accompanied her to the procedure.
She said, “To be honest, at first, I followed trend by undergoing body enhancement surgery. I did my body enhancement surgery in 2018.
“It was just the trend and peer pressure that made me do it. Because I actually had a very good body shape. I was slim with curves in the right places as an African woman. But maybe, my stomach was a little bit too much then.
“I was scared when I wanted to undergo the surgery. I didn’t tell my mum. I went with two of my friends. It was painful. You won’t sleep with your butt for fourteen days. You have to be lying on your stomach. That’s the painful part. After the surgery, you will cry for three days. But it is worth it.”

Accra, July 17, GNA – Mrs Joyce Afutu, Head, Communications and Corporate Affairs, National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has asked aspiring Assembly and Unit Committee Members to desist from promising capital projects ahead of this year’s District Level Elections.
He said their roles as elected members would be to organise communal labour, collate views and complaints from community members and present them to the Assemblies for redress and urged them to keep to that mandate.
The Electoral Commission has slated October 3 for the District Level Elections, however, yet to announce the processes, including dates for filing of nominations.
The date, according to the Commission, is subject to change depending on the early approval of the Constitutional Instrument (C.I 91) before Parliament.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the campaign promises, Mrs Afutu said Assembly and Unit Committee members should not emulate parliamentarians in making promises for capital projects because they had no common fund for such.
“The reality is that MPs have a common fund, but Assembly members don’t have and don’t have to make those promises. By the time you even enter the Assembly, the development plan has already been made and budgeted for,” she said.
“Some Assembly members make campaign promises, get to the Assemblies and cannot fulfil them,” Mrs Afutu noted, adding that a study on District Level Elections indicated that MPs were seen more as development agents.
Local governance experts said the practice of Assembly member aspirants promising capital projects was due to how apathy had characterised local-level elections over the years.
The first District Level Elections were held in 1988/89, with voter turnout at 59.3 per cent, it was 29.3 per cent in 1994, 41.6 per cent in 2002, 33.1 per cent in 2006, 35.5 per cent in 2010 and 30.6 per cent in 2015.

Siaya Senator Dr. Oburu Oginga has voiced serious concerns regarding the mounting calls for President William Ruto’s resignation, warning that they could potentially thrust the country into instability.
Citing constitutional provisions, Dr. Oginga pointed out that President Ruto’s resignation would automatically elevate Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to the presidency, a prospect he vehemently criticized.
During a press conference in Kisumu on Sunday, July 14, 2024, Dr. Oburu did not mince words in his critique of Deputy President Gachagua, labeling him the “worst” leader who, in his view, could exacerbate the country’s challenges.
“While they are all bad leaders, Gachagua is unapologetically shameless and has publicly declared the country a shareholding entity,” Dr. Oburu asserted.
He described the idea of elevating Mr. Gachagua to the presidency as perilous, citing biases in appointments made by the Kenya Kwanza leadership that favor members of two dominant communities over other Kenyans.
The Siaya senator emphasized that Kenya faces a critical juncture and urged citizens to engage thoughtfully in navigating the current crisis, which he believes tests the nation’s unity and peace.
Expressing deep concern over potential outcomes, Dr. Oginga cautioned that successful protests by Gen Z could lead the military to intervene, a scenario he warned could mirror situations in Egypt, Chad, Mali, Guinea, Gabon, Sudan, and Niger, potentially regressing Kenya into dictatorship and jeopardizing current democratic gains.
“While popular uprisings are legitimate and people-led, success is often determined by the decisions taken by the military,” he said.
In his appeal to national leaders, Dr. Oginga urged against exploiting the situation for political advantage and instead emphasized the need for responsible guidance amid the uncertainties.
“This is a fluid situation that demands steadfast leadership. Leaders must not ride on the energy of Gen Zs and merely echo their sentiments but provide constructive guidance to the younger generation of Kenyans,” he asserted.
Regarding political strategy, Dr. Oginga disclosed ODM’s readiness to engage in national dialogue and support President Ruto’s envisioned broad-based political arrangement, which could integrate opposition figures into the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Highlighting the importance of policy continuity, he underscored the opposition’s commitment to advocating for the implementation of crucial policies promised to Kenyans before the 2022 General Election, aiming to ensure stability as the country prepares for the 2027 elections.
The Siaya lawmaker called upon the youth to actively participate in the upcoming elections and to conscientiously elect capable leaders in 2027, emphasizing their pivotal role in shaping Kenya’s future.
