Ghanaian movie actor, Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil Win, has premiered his much-anticipated movie ‘Captain Ibrahim Traore’ at the SG Mall in Kumasi, drawing a packed audience.
The movie, which had generated significant buzz across social media platforms, lived up to the hype as movie fans were treated to an unforgettable cinematic experience.
Ahead of the premiere, Lil Win organised a vibrant float through the streets of Kumasi to promote the movie. The float also served as a tribute to the late legendary musician Daddy Lumba, who passed away recently.
Directed by the acclaimed Jackson K. Bentum, ‘Captain Ibrahim Traore’ is an action-packed movie that pays homage to the President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traore.
Lil Win stars in the lead role, portraying the Burkinabè leader and showcasing his strength and resilience in turbulent times.
“It is truly an honour to see fans gathered here to watch the movie. I am really encouraged by the kind gesture. I want to thank all fans who have supported me—I’m motivated to give my best to the movie industry,” Lilwin told reporters after the premiere on Saturday, August 2.
The premiere attracted several high-profile personalities, including Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional Minister; Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, President of the Ghana Journalists Association; and celebrated actress Vivian Jill, among others.
The next screening of the movie is scheduled to take place at the Eusbett Cinema in Sunyani on Saturday, August 16, 2025.
The “Big Madam” style is a striking embodiment of elegance, confidence, and contemporary grace. It artfully merges timeless fashion elements with modern sophistication, giving women the freedom to express their individuality with boldness and flair.
At the heart of this fashion trend lies the celebration of a woman’s distinct identity—regardless of her age, background, or marital status. It’s about embracing style that feels powerful, refined, and undeniably attractive. This look is often brought to life with high-quality fabrics such as smooth satin, fine silk, intricate lace, and other luxurious textiles that exude sophistication. A perfectly tailored lace gown with ornate detailing, for example, makes an ideal choice for weddings, galas, or upscale evening events.
One of the standout features of the Big Madam aesthetic is its adaptability. The style includes a range of options, from bold, statement-making dresses in vibrant hues to sharply structured ensembles that highlight a defined silhouette. Popular elements include cinched waists, flowing A-line cuts, and smart tailoring that flatter a variety of body shapes while maintaining a polished and graceful look.
For a more modern twist, women can opt for a sleek blazer paired with well-fitted trousers or jeans—ideal for business meetings or social gatherings. Pencil skirts and body-hugging dresses also bring a touch of elegance and authority to the outfit, creating a perfect balance between power and poise.
The Big Madam style goes beyond fashion—it represents confidence, presence, and self-expression. It’s the go-to choice for women who want to make a lasting impression, walk with pride, and always stay ahead in the world of style.
The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts has firmly denied allegations circulating on social media that question the professionalism and conduct of the sector Minister, Abla Dzifa Gomashie.
In a statement signed by the Ministry’s Head of Public Relations, Delassie Mabel Awuku, the accusations—described as “false narratives” pushed by a social media personality—were dismissed as baseless and misleading.
“These assertions, portraying the Minister as disrespectful and unprofessional, are not only wholly unfounded but also gravely misleading,” the Ministry stated.
“They represent a blatant mischaracterisation of an individual who has consistently demonstrated humility, dedication, and tireless service to the cultural advancement of our nation.”
The statement underscored the Minister’s longstanding commitment to engaging stakeholders and the general public with respect, while promoting Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.
It also described the allegations as “a regrettable attempt to tarnish this reputation,” warning that such claims undermine the Ministry’s broader efforts and the work of those who serve in the creative sector with pride.
The Ministry urged the public to reject content creators who promote “sensationalism over truth,” and called for an unqualified apology for what it termed “blatant lies peddled” against the Minister and directors of the Ministry.
“We remain committed to transparency and welcome constructive dialogue—but we will not tolerate falsehoods that seek to divide and distract,” the statement concluded.

A terrifying scene unfolded at a guest house in Gomoa Budumburam in the Central Region of Ghana when a group of armed men stormed the facility, attacked guests, and issued chilling death threats. The incident, which occurred in the late hours of Monday, has sent shockwaves across the community and raised concerns about the growing state of insecurity in the area.
Accra, Aug. 5, GNA – The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) says it is investigating the cause of the fire outbreak at dawn on Monday, August 4, at the Accra Tourist Information Centre.
Though personnel of the Service were able to bring the strong winds-aided fire under control, the first floor of the edifice and its contents were completely destroyed.
No injuries were recorded, it said.
The GNFS preliminary reports showed that the fire was reported at exactly 0102 hours and the first fire engine from the National Headquarters arrived at 0104 hours to meet a fully developed stage of the inferno, spreading rapidly in all directions.
“Five additional fire appliances from the Flagstaff House, Circle, Accra City, Ministries Fire Stations, and the Rapid Intervention Vehicle (RIV) from Headquarters were swiftly mobilised to support the firefighting operations,” the report said.
“Although the blaze was brought under control at 0332 hours, rigorous firefighting efforts continued fully in quenching the flames and preventing further spread to adjoining properties until 0635 hours.”
“The entire first floor and its contents were completely consumed by the fire. However, the ground floor and about eight offices, including the East Wing section of the ground floor was successfully salvaged from the fire’s ruins.”
Unfortunately, the blaze was said to have destroyed the popular Rockz Waakye branch, one of the nicest ‘waakye’ joints in the city run by Reggie Rockstone, a Hip-life pioneer.
The fire reportedly started from the kitchen area of Rockz Waakye and spread quickly.
Shortly after it was brought under control, the hip-life legend took to his Instagram page to expressed gratitude to God for the safety of all the workers.
“Praises due you the Most High, Yah! We thank You for all and your protection over your children! Thanking you for all the love shown,” he said.
In a follow-up video, Reggie Rockstone said: “Praises to Yah, the Most High, Yaweh, Yehowah!
“No one is hurt, all humans are good, physical damage very bad but we thank God. Nothing happened to any one. God bless you all, God bless you for the love, Amen, Amen.”
Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah – Minister of Lands and Natural Resources
Cabinet has approved the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) for implementation.
The approval follows a proposal by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources for a flagship initiative designed to transform Ghana’s artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) sector.
It is also in line with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision to create sustainable jobs through responsible mining and skills development.
The new programme merges and reforms the existing Community Mining Scheme (CMS) and the National Alternative Employment and Livelihood Programme (NAELP) while introducing a more coordinated and efficient approach to ASM by establishing regulated, community-owned mining cooperatives.
These cooperatives will receive professional training, legal concessions, and access to shared processing facilities equipped with modern gold recovery technologies and water treatment systems.
“This is a major step forward in ensuring that mining is done responsibly, while creating meaningful livelihoods,” the Ministry said in a statement.
The programme also places a strong emphasis on vocational training and entrepreneurship, particularly for women and young people.
Through accredited skills development in areas such as mining techniques, equipment maintenance, agriculture, digital skills, and enterprise management, rCOMSDEP aims to expand livelihood options beyond mining.
“We are investing in people — in their skills, in their future, and in the future of their communities,” the statement added.
Also, degraded lands will be rehabilitated and restored for productive use in agriculture and forestry, while green jobs will be created through reforestation and ecosystem restoration efforts.
rCOMSDEP also includes plans to strengthen local economies through agricultural value chain development and will use revenues from mining to support essential community infrastructure such as water systems, schools, health facilities, and renewable energy projects.
The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources thus called on all stakeholders — including traditional leaders, youth groups, civil society organisations, and private sector partners — to actively engage with the implementation of rCOMSDEP.
“Together, we can reshape the future of artisanal and small-scale mining, restore our environment, and build strong, self-sustaining communities,” the Ministry urged.

Paul Adom-Otchere, the former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), has challenged private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu to provide evidence of the landed properties he owns in Accra.
It will be recalled that Martin Kpebu cast doubt on Adom-Otchere’s declarations, claiming he did not have a landed property to meet the OSP bail conditions when he was detained.
The District Director of Education (DDE) for Atwima Kwanwoma, Mrs. Doris Ofori, has underscored the importance of promoting both English and Twi literacy to empower students for global opportunities while preserving their cultural heritage.
Speaking at the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation Community Reading Competition held at the Trede Chief’s Palace, Mrs. Ofori described reading as more than a basic academic skill, calling it “a gateway to understanding, a bridge between cultures, and a path to endless possibilities.”
She emphasised that English remains the global language for education, science, and commerce, making it essential for students to master. However, she cautioned against neglecting indigenous languages like Twi, which she said plays a crucial role in shaping identity, instilling values, and preserving culture.
“Through English, our learners can access global narratives, while Twi keeps them grounded in the beauty of our cultural heritage,” she said.
Mrs. Ofori also called on teachers, parents, and stakeholders to support students in developing reading habits in both languages, stating that bilingual literacy fosters critical thinking, creativity, and self-expression.
The event, which was attended by the District Chief Executive (DCE) Grace Agyemang Asamoah, traditional leaders, teachers, and students, aimed to select top-performing students to represent the municipality at the regional level of the reading competition.
Mrs. Ofori urged participants to compete fairly, and encouraged the organisers to provide a level playing field.
“Let us create a conducive environment that allows every learner to feel confident and perform to the best of their abilities,” she added.
The competition is part of the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation’s broader initiative to promote education and literacy in communities across the Ashanti Region.
Kennedy Agyapong is one of the frontrunners of the NPP presidential primaries
Former Deputy Finance Minister, Dr Alex Ampaabeng has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to listen to the calls from its grassroots supporters ahead of the presidential primaries and vote for Kennedy Agyapong.
According to Dr Ampaabeng, the party’s grassroots have a clear message for the delegates; “Bring this person, and we will give you the power.”
He revealed that the individual the grassroots have been rallying behind is Kennedy Agyapong, one of the frontrunners in the party’s flagbearership race.
Speaking on Accra-based TV3 on August 5, 2025, Dr. Ampaabeng, who has openly declared his support for Kennedy Agyapong, said, “Whatever decision I’m making is not based on betrayal, it is based on the information I have gathered on the ground.”
He emphasised, “The people who sent me believe that if you bring this person [Kennedy Agyapong], they will give you the power.”
“I do believe the time is right, Kennedy is the right candidate,” he stressed.
Dr Ampaabeng also called on the party to avoid politics of insults as it prepares for this crucial leadership election.
He urged members to focus on obtaining credible information and using it strategically for the party’s benefit.
“In politics, you don’t have weapons. Your weapon is your information. How you get it, how you process it, and how you use it to strategise determines whether you succeed or fail politically,” he noted.
According to him, the information he has received from the grassroots strongly indicates that the party’s base is more likely to support the NPP if Kennedy Agyapong is selected as the presidential candidate.

Ghana’s government has issued a stern ultimatum to MultiChoice Ghana, ordering the pay-TV operator to cut DStv subscription prices by 30% before August 7.
Speaking on Monday, Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, said he has instructed the National Communications Authority (NCA) to initiate suspension proceedings against MultiChoice Ghana if it fails to comply with regulatory expectations for a price reduction.
“I have directed the NCA to act swiftly. If by the 7th of August DStv has not complied, their broadcasting licence will be suspended,” George said.
The standoff follows DStv’s rejection of a government proposal demanding a 30% cut in subscription prices. George criticised the company’s justification for high prices, citing the cedi’s 200% depreciation over the past eight years, as insufficient.
He pointed out that this reasoning is no longer valid, given Ghana’s economic outlook.
In 2025, the cedi has been one of the world’s best-performing currencies, appreciating by 40% against the U.S. dollar, second only to the Russian ruble, according to Bloomberg data.
George further highlighted stark pricing disparities across markets, noting that MultiChoice charges $83 for its premium bouquet in Ghana, compared to just $29 in Nigeria for identical content.
MultiChoice responds
MultiChoice Ghana, a subsidiary of South Africa’s MultiChoice Group, dismissed the government’s demands as “not tenable” in a statement on Sunday. The company argued that economic conditions and the need to sustain service quality made such a reduction unfeasible.
Managing Director Alex Okyere warned that enforced price cuts could lead to job losses and reduced service offerings for consumers. He added that MultiChoice had presented alternative proposals to the Minister and the NCA to resolve the dispute.
However, George swiftly rejected those proposals via a post on X (formerly Twitter), questioning why MultiChoice had complied with a court order to suspend price hikes in Nigeria but was unwilling to do the same in Ghana.
Among the company’s suggestions was an offer to freeze current pricing while halting revenue remittances to its headquarters, a proposal George dismissed as illogical.
Daniel Fenyi is the Public Relations Officer of GES
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has stated that it has launched an investigation into the indefinite suspension of 25 students from Agona Swedru Senior High School (SHS), following a violent clash over an alleged same-sex relationship proposal on campus.
Speaking to the matter on Peace FM on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Daniel Fenyi, confirmed the incident, stating that the affected students have since been sent home.
“It happened yesterday and we quickly went there to obtain some initial briefing on the situation to engage the public. We are still investigating it but the initial reports suggest that about 25 students are involved in the unfortunate situation,” he said.
According to him, information gathered after a visit to the school indicates that some of the affected persons are final-year students sitting for the 2025 WASSCE.
Fenyi indicated that, despite their suspension, arrangements have been made for the students to sit for their exams, adding that they will be coming from home to the school to write them.
“Out of the 25, some of them are also SHS 3 (final year) students who will be sitting for the WASSCE. They have been suspended and withdrawn from campus. They will be coming from the house to write the exams. That is the initial arrangement that has been made. I’m sure that going forward, we will monitor the situation, engage with authorities and finalise the decision,” he indicated.
“The students have been suspended and we are probing it. We understand how nuanced this issue can be. We have engaged and monitored to make sure that these students will still have access to the WASSCE which is basically a right for them. In order not for them to spread the situation to their colleagues or influence them, they have been suspended and will be coming to the campus to write their exam,” he added.
Initial reports on GhanaWeb on August 4, 2025, indicated that school authorities said the altercation began when one male student allegedly proposed a romantic relationship to another male student, who declined the offer.
The student who rejected the proposal is said to have informed his colleagues, who reportedly encouraged him to accept the proposal as part of a plan to entrap the other student.
On the agreed day of the meeting, a group of students believed to be friends of the student who was approached allegedly ambushed and physically assaulted the student who made the proposal.
In retaliation, the assaulted student reportedly informed his dormitory mates, leading to a reprisal attack that escalated into a fight involving several students.
The school’s administration intervened and conducted a disciplinary hearing before deciding to suspend the students involved.
The Headmistress of the school, Golda Esi Andam, confirmed the suspension and emphasised that due process was followed.
“These students will write their final exams under the escort of their parents. They have now realised that the Ghana Education Service (GES) does not joke with its code of conduct,” she stated.

Government bond yields fell significantly across the curve in first-half 2025
Government bond yields fell significantly across the curve in first-half 2025, with investor confidence gradually rebuilding amid easing inflation and relatively stable macroeconomic indicators.
Expectations of further policy clarity, including a possible sovereign bond buyback, have also contributed to improved sentiment in the market.
Data from the Bank of Ghana’s July 2025 Summary of Economic and Financial Data show yields on post-DDEP bonds declining across all maturities between January and June. The sharpest compression occurred at the curve’s shorter end, where the 4-Year Bond yield dropped by 686 basis points (bps) from 26.22 percent in January to 19.36 percent in June.
Medium- to long-dated bonds also posted notable declines. The 5-Year and 6-Year Bonds fell to 20.21 percent and 19.17 percent respectively, while the 15-Year Bond – which started the year at 26.71 percent – closed June at 20.74 percent. The 10-Year Bond, a key benchmark for market sentiment, declined to 20.08 percent from 26.36 percent at beginning of the year.
This broad-based downward trend comes in the wake of the 2023 Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), which significantly restructured local debt instruments. While the initial aftermath of restructuring saw heightened volatility, particularly in second-half 2024, yields have since trended downward; helped by an improving macro backdrop and growing confidence in government’s fiscal discipline.
Yields peaked in September 2024, when market uncertainty pushed the 4-Year Bond to 35.61 percent and 15-Year to 29.39 percent. Since then, analysts say investors have recalibrated their expectations on inflation, currency risk and sovereign default probabilities.
According to Republic Investment CEO Madeline Nettey, the potential for a government bond buyback could further support sentiment in the secondary market. She indicated that discussions about engaging new bookrunners are underway and suggested that concrete action may begin as early as the third quarter.
“If government is able to follow through with a buyback of some positions, it would boost investor confidence,” Ms. Nettey said.
She noted that many investors are holding bonds they did not actively select but were allocated through the restructuring. In her view, a buyback would restore some alignment between portfolio strategy and asset composition, especially for funds that had been structured for short-term exposures but now hold long-dated instruments.
The current bond market rally, she added, is partly a reflection of this anticipation.
Analysts similarly suggest that part of the yield compression reflects improved fiscal messaging under the IMF programme, as well as more predictable exchange rate management. Narrowing of the spread between short- and long-dated securities is another key signal, with the gap between 4-Year and 15-Year Bonds falling to 138bps in June; down from nearly 500bps a year earlier.
Despite the improvement, some traders remain cautious. The current demand for government securities may be amplified by the scarcity of attractive alternative assets rather than deep conviction in long-term fiscal reforms.
Still, lower yields have reduced government’s borrowing costs, creating modest fiscal space and easing pressure on interest payments. The environment may also prove conducive to corporate bond issuance and bank lending, with broader benefits for private sector credit growth.
The gradual rebound marks a contrast with volatile months following the DDEP, when uncertainty around liquidity, pricing and secondary market depth caused erratic movements in yields. The 10-Year Bond, for instance, swung from 26.93 percent in August 2024 to 20.23 percent by December.
Nigeria’s Vice-President celebrated with the winning D’Tigress team
Members of Nigeria’s national female basketball team are to receive a cash reward of $100,000 (£75,000) each following their victory at the Fiba Women’s AfroBasket Championship over the weekend in Ivory Coast.
At a special reception held in honour of the team, known as D’Tigress, Vice-President Kashim Shettima also promised each player a three-bedroom flat.
Nigeria defeated Mali 78-64 on Sunday to win their seventh AfroBasket title, which also secured them a spot at next year’s Fiba Women’s World Cup.
A similar bonus was promised to the national female football team, the Super Falcons, last month after they won the recent Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon).
Members of D’Tigress’s coaching and technical crew were also promised $50,000 each and a flat during the reception at State House in the capital, Abuja.
“Nigerian women have never failed this nation in sports. From the Super Falcons standing tall on the world stage, to our athletes breaking records on the track, and D’Tigress building a basketball dynasty, our women have consistently made us proud,” President Bola Tinubu said in a statement.
“To all our young people watching today, let the story of D’Tigress remind you that greatness is a product of hard work, discipline, and belief. Nigeria belongs to those who dare to dream and are willing to give their best to make those dreams a reality.”
There have been been mixed reactions to the promises of cash prizes – with some feeling it is unsustainable considering the country’s troubled economy.
Though the question on the lips of most Nigerians is: how long will it take for them all to get their rewards?
Previous promises like this have taken years to come to fruition.
Two months ago, the government finally fulfilled its 31-year-old pledge to give houses to the 1994 Super Eagles football squad after they won the Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia.
Some members of that team, including Nigeria’s all-time highest goal scorer Rashidi Yekini and then-captain Stephen Keshi, died before receiving the promised reward.
The family of the late Highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has revealed that he fathered 11 children with four different women before his passing.
In a viral interview, family elders shared that the iconic musician had four children with his first wife, five, including twins, with his current wife, and two more with two other women.
The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts has strongly refuted claims circulating on social media that cast aspersions on the professionalism and conduct of the sector minister.
In a statement issued by the Ministry’s Public Relations Unit, it described the accusations as “wholly unfounded” and “gravely misleading,” aimed at tarnishing the hard-earned reputation of the sector Minister Dzifa Gomashie.
“These assertions, portraying the Minister as disrespectful and unprofessional, are not only wholly unfounded but also gravely misleading,” the statement noted. “They represent a blatant mischaracterisation of an individual who has consistently demonstrated humility, dedication, and tireless service to the cultural advancement of our nation.”
According to the Ministry, the Minister’s track record is anchored in openness, mutual respect, and genuine commitment to promoting Ghana’s cultural identity and heritage. It said interactions with stakeholders, industry players, and the broader public had always been cordial and professional.
The release attributed the spread of the allegations to a “certain social media personality” whose motivations, the Ministry believes, are rooted in sensationalism and personal gain rather than factual integrity.
“We urge the public to remain vigilant and to disassociate themselves from content creators and individuals who prioritise sensationalism over truth, and who recklessly seek attention at the expense of public trust and unity,” it said.
The statement added that such falsehoods, even when they go viral, “may gather temporary noise, but truth always prevails.” It encouraged the general public to continue supporting the Ministry’s work and resist attempts to derail its mission.
The Ministry also said it expected an “unqualified apology for the blatant lies peddled against the Hon. Minister and themselves,” reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance on misinformation and character assassination.
Signed by Delassie Mabel Awuku, Head of Public Relations, the statement concluded with a firm pledge to remain transparent and open to constructive dialogue, while warning that it would not tolerate attempts to “divide and distract” the Ministry from its work of preserving, celebrating, and elevating Ghana’s tourism, culture, and creative arts.
One of the most anticipated events in Ghana’s music calendar, Dynamic Praise, hosted by Stephen Kwadwo Frimpong, popularly called SK Frimpong, will take place in three regions this year.
The annual event, which has for some time now been happening only in the Western regional capital of Takoradi, will this year be taking place in Kumasi and Accra, in the Ashanti and Greater Accra regions respectively.
The first stop will be Kumasi on October 26, 2025, followed by Takoradi on November 23, 2025, and in Accra on December 7, 2025.
Addressing a press conference in Takoradi to officially announce the events, SK Frimpong disclosed that this year’s Dynamic Praise is on the theme: “Overflow”.
He indicated that the events will also feature Dr. Mc Abraham, Akese Brempong, Obaapa Christy, Oware Jnr, Ohemaa Mercy, Sandy Asare and Jojo Arhin among others.
SK Frimpong said, “We will experience a powerful time of worship, and I believe there will be overflow in all aspects of our lives.”
He noted that Dynamic Praise has been bringing people together under the banner of worship, and was hopeful that this year’s edition will be nothing short of extraordinary.
He appealed for more support, particularly from corporate entities, to help fund this year’s events and subsequent ones.
SK Frimpong has become a household name in the gospel music scene in Ghana and in Sekondi-Takoradi in particular.
His music carries messages of faith, hope, and worship, touching the hearts of listeners and inspiring them to deepen their connection with God.
This season at Malaikaraiss, the focus is on cuts. It’s a small “best of” from designer Malaika Raiss, who is well-known in Berlin, especially for bridal and evening wear designed with comfort and ease—in all sizes and with all the extras. The New Patriotic Party (NPP), Germany Branch, has honoured Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakariah, former CEO of Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), for her commitment to the advancement of Nasara communities in Ghana and across the globe.
A lifelong advocate for women’s empowerment, Hajia Abibata has become a symbol of resilience, progress, and hope for young girls and women. Guided by the belief that “to uplift one woman is to uplift a nation,” she has consistently invested in mentorship, seed capital for small businesses, and bold advocacy, unlocking opportunities, building strategic networks, and inspiring women to dream without limits.
Her impact goes far beyond words. From facilitating job creation and expanding financial access to forging meaningful partnerships, Hajia Abibata’s leadership has delivered results. A notable example was her conduct during the intense 2024 NPP primaries in Yendi—choosing dialogue over litigation and placing party unity and national peace above personal interest.
The event’s highlight was a citation presented in her honour, which read: “In appreciation of your dedicated support, continued interest, and meaningful contribution to the growth and success of the Nasara Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Germany Branch. Your active involvement and commitment to the values and activities of the Wing have been instrumental in strengthening our efforts and promoting unity among members. Your unwavering support for the broader mission of the New Patriotic Party reflects a deep sense of patriotism and loyalty that deserves to be acknowledged and celebrated. This citation is a testament to our gratitude for your engagement, encouragement, and enduring belief in the work we do—both at home and in the diaspora.”
Ruth Lindenberger, Youth Organiser of NPP Germany, received the award on behalf of Hajia Abibata and conveyed heartfelt gratitude to the Nasara Wing and all well-wishers.
Also honoured at the event were Mr. Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei Asamoah, Deputy National Organiser, and Mr. Saalim Mansuru Bamba, Ashanti Regional Coordinator, for their invaluable contributions to grassroots mobilisation and party development.
The ceremony affirmed Hajia Abibata’s enduring legacy as a unifying force, a voice for the voiceless, and a mother figure committed to inclusive growth, empowerment, and national development.
A serious road accident at the Ofankor barrier on the Accra-bound section of the Accra–Achimota highway early Tuesday, August 5, 2025, has caused massive traffic congestion, leaving commuters stranded for hours.
The crash involved two cargo trucks traveling in opposite directions—one heading towards Accra from the Pokuase stretch and the other en route to Pokuase.
Eyewitnesses described the impact as severe, with one of the trucks splitting into two due to the head-on collision. Despite the intensity of the crash, one of the drivers escaped unhurt and was later seen attempting to salvage diesel from the wreckage.
The situation worsened when another driver, in a bid to maneuver around the accident scene, got stuck, blocking the main access road and further deepening the traffic gridlock.
Although the exact cause of the crash is yet to be confirmed, preliminary reports suggest that one of the drivers may have either dozed off or swerved to avoid a pothole.
Personnel from the Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) were quickly deployed to manage the traffic situation. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to tow the wrecked trucks and restore normal traffic flow along the busy stretch.
The 2025 General Meeting of the Society of Medical Laboratory Managers Ghana has ended with a call for the inclusion of laboratory professionals in the core decision-making processes in healthcare institutions.
“The restructuring of our healthcare system demands a more inclusive, multidisciplinary approach to management, placing laboratory managers at the table where policies are shaped, budgets discussed and systems are designed,” said the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu.
Mr Gunu, who opened the two-day meeting in Ho, said laboratory managers were positioned to identify inefficiencies in diagnostics services and to recommend suitable solutions for optimising test utilisation, equipment procurement and workforce deployment.
Further, he said they were at the forefront of laboratory innovations, from point-of-care testing to molecular diagnostics. That made their input crucial in managing and integrating those technologies into national health priorities.
Commitment
Mr Gunu gave an assurance that the government was committed to strengthening the role of health professionals in governance and system reform, adding that the nation would benefit immensely from a restructured health system that leveraged the full competencies of its workforce, including laboratory managers.
The laboratory managers at the meeting
The regional minister, therefore, urged the Society of Medical Laboratory Managers Ghana to continue building its members’ capacity, not only in laboratory science, but also in leadership, policy and strategic planning.
“Engage hospital administration, regional health directorates and policy makers to be visible and vocal at the highest levels of health governance,” he added.
Mr Gunu appealed to the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to create inclusive, evidence-based and patient-centred systems, where every professional’s voice was valued and every unit worked in synergy.
About 200 laboratory managers in the country attended the meeting, which was on the theme: Medical Laboratory Managers’ Involvement in Core Management – A Necessity in Restructuring Healthcare Delivery in Ghana.

The Dean of the School of Allied Health Services of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Professor Samuel Essien-Baidoo, in a keynote address, said medical laboratory practice in Ghana had not only advanced from routine urine examinations into in-depth molecular analysis of various human body specimens, but had also become a fulcrum of clinical decision-making.
However, he said the representation of laboratory managers in healthcare management systems’ leadership and governance structures remained inadequate.
For instance, he said, while the regulatory framework governing the management of teaching hospitals and clinics acknowledged the incorporation of the Laboratory Clinical Unit, that legal position had not been sufficiently implemented at many practising sites.
“The challenges created by the non-recognition and integration of the medical laboratory manager in hospital management compromise our quest for quality healthcare management practices and service delivery,” he pointed out.
Professor Samuel Essien-Baidoo clarified that healthcare transformation in Ghana would be incomplete without laboratory managers’ full, informed and strategic involvement.
“Whether in supporting the 24-hour health economy, leading primary healthcare diagnostics or driving evidence-based policy, our relevance is unquestionable,” he maintained.
A sharp critic of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Paul Adom-Otchere, has given the current John Dramani Mahama administration a thumbs up for performing reasonably well in power.
According to him, even though it is early days yet for the government, its performance has not been abysmal.
Speaking on the “Point of View” show on Channel TV, Adom-Otchere noted that despite his reservations about specific policies, the government’s overall performance has been commendable.
He said, “So far, I think it’s early, but in terms of his optics, I think it’s fine,” adding that “all the micro indicators are coming up strong”.
He argued further that when a new government is elected into office, it spends what he called “inheritance” from the previous government and therefore called for more time for the government in terms of the economy.
“In terms of economic performance, I think we need to give him [Mahama] a bit of time, but certainly the optics are correct, and certainly he was popularly elected,” he stated.

Fire gutted the Accra Tourist Information Centre in the early hours of Monday, causing significant damage to the premises and affecting several businesses, including the popular food outlet Rockz Waakye, owned by veteran musician Reggie Rockstone.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the fire was reported at exactly 1:02am and the first fire engine from the GNFS National Headquarters arrived on the scene within two minutes, with additional support coming from stations at Flagstaff House, Circle, Accra City, and the Ministries, as well as a Rapid Intervention Vehicle.
Firefighters battled the blaze for over two hours before bringing it under control at 3:32am. The fire crews remained on-site to extinguish residual flames and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains unknown, though eyewitnesses have suggested it may have started in the kitchen area of Rockz Waakye.
Speaking in a video shared on social media after the incident, Reggie Rockstone expressed his gratitude for the outpouring of support from the public. “Yes, there has been a fire, a pretty devastating fire. The good news is that no human being was harmed,” he said. “Material stuff we don’t take with us when we check out, so we praise God for this.”
He also praised the GNFS for their quick response, stating that despite public criticism, the firefighters did their best to control the situation.
Operations at Rockz Waakye have been suspended as management assesses the damage and plans for a possible reopening in the near future.
THE CRIMINAL Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service probing the murder of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) officer, Stephen King Amoah, has recovered a blood-stained fufu pestle wrapped in a polythene bag, hidden in the bushes approximately 100 meters from the crime scene.
The retrieval of the weapon marks a significant breakthrough into solving the gruesome murder of the late Amoah, whose charred body was discovered on July 9, 2025.
The fufu pestle has been sent for forensic analysis as part of an ongoing investigation. The CID, supported by officers from the Counter-Terrorism Unit and the Kwabenya District Police, visited suspect Bright Aweh’s residence. Evidence of attempted clean-up, freshly sprayed walls, and an empty can of spray paint (white) were uncovered.
A search at a secondary crime scene near the GBC Satellite area also uncovered a burnt wooden carpet stained with blood and partially burnt camouflage fabric. Subsequent investigations also revealed that a new woolen rug had been laid in the suspect’s house.
At a press briefing in Accra, the Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, stated that on July 24, police obtained a warrant from the court to search a specific room in the suspect’s house.
“A search revealed more blood stains, which were photographed, and samples were collected for forensic analysis. A further search in the bushes about 100 meters from the suspect’s house also led to the retrieval of a fufu pestle with blood stains all over it wrapped in polythene,” she said.
She further mentioned that the suspect’s car was impounded, saying, “Blood stains were seen and collected for analysis, and have tested positive for human blood.”
COP Donkor added that further investigation led to the discovery of CCTV footages showing three people on two motorbikes arriving at the suspect’s house on the day in question, adding that, “the deceased victim was also seen arriving at the location on a motorbike that dropped him and left, but the deceased was not seen leaving the location.”
She added that a vehicle belonging to the suspect was seen in the footage moving in and out of the location, with the suspect seen holding the polythene that was found containing the pestle with blood stains.
“In the face of these pieces of evidence, the suspect who was initially charged with kidnapping has since been rearrested and formally charged with murder. He is currently on remand following his appearance before the Adabraka District Court, and is scheduled to reappear on August 8,” she disclosed.
It will be recalled that Stephen King Amoah, popularly known as Otumfour Nana, went missing early last month, July 2025.
On July 4, 2025, the Kwabenya District Police Command received a complaint regarding the disappearance of Assistant Inspector Stephen King Amoah, an Immigration Officer stationed at the Sports Department of the Ghana Immigration Headquarters in Accra.
Investigations revealed that on July 3, 2025, the deceased left his residence at Ashongman Estate after receiving WhatsApp images of cash bundles from Bright Aweh, who requested to meet him at a spot at Ashongman Estate to settle outstanding debts. According to the complainant, Mr. Amoah never returned home that night, and his phone remained switched off thereafter.
On July 6, 2025, subsequent police operations led to the arrest of suspect Bright Aweh (alias Roberts or High Bright). During interrogation, he admitted to meeting and giving the deceased GH¢500,000 in cash on July 3, 2025 when they met at a spot at Ashongman Estate.
He claims that he instructed the deceased to use GH¢200,000 to pay off certain debts and hold the remaining GH¢300,000 for later collection.
However, the suspect failed to clearly explain the source of the funds and provided conflicting statements, which heightened suspicions of foul play. He was arraigned before the Kwabenya Circuit Court on July 8, 2025 on a provisional charge of kidnapping.
On the morning of July 9, 2025, police discovered a severely burned body in a gutter near GBC Satellite, opposite Comet Estate in Accra. The body was conveyed to the police hospital morgue. Following the discovery, investigators from the Kwabenya Police joined the crime scene and later proceeded with the complainant and transported six relatives to the morgue.
Despite the extent of the burns, the relatives positively identified the body as that of Stephen King Amoah.
Iga Swiatek was the latest top player to suffer an upset loss in Montreal as the Wimbledon champion and tournament second seed fell 7-6(1) 6-3 to Dane Clara Tauson in the Canadian Open round of 16 on Sunday.
The 22-year-old Tauson used her creativity and firepower to frustrate the six-time Grand Slam champion from Poland, staying calm when she was broken in the second set and sealing the win when Swiatek’s backhand landed in the net.
Swiatek’s loss came a day after top seed Coco Gauff was stunned in straight sets by Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko, and both Swiatek and Gauff will look to sharpen their games ahead of the start of the U.S. Open later this month.
World number one and U.S. Open defending champion Aryna Sabalenka is not competing in Montreal.
Tauson, seeded 16th, will face Madison Keys in the quarterfinals after the big-serving American saved two match points to emerge with a hard-fought 4-6 6-3 7-5 win over Czech Karolina Muchova.
Tauson beat Keys in their only previous meeting in Auckland in January. Keys went on to capture her first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open later that month.
Former world number one Naomi Osaka showed flashes of her past dominance to reach the quarterfinals, needing just 49 minutes to steamroll Anastasija Sevastova 6-1 6-0.
It marks the first time the Japanese player has advanced to the last eight of a WTA 1000 event in 19 months, which came in Doha in 2024.
Four-time Grand Slam champion Osaka will face either American Amanda Anisimova or Ukrainian Elina Svitolina for a place in the semis.
On the men’s side of the tournament, which is being played in Toronto, Alex de Minaur used his speedy defense to edge American Frances Tiafoe 6-2 4-6 6-4.
The ninth-seeded Australian, who is coming off a victory at the ATP 500 Washington Open last week and who is in search of his first Masters 1000 title, will next face American Ben Shelton, who beat Italy’s Flavio Cobolli 6-4 4-6 7-6(1).
Russian sixth seed Andrey Rublev advanced to the quarterfinals of the tournament for the first time after Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina was forced to retire from the match with an injury while trailing 7-6(3) 6-7(2) 3-0.
Second-seeded American Taylor Fritz will battle 19th-seeded Czech player Jiri Lehecka later in the evening.-Reuters

A Nigerian Catholic priest, Prince Chidi Philip, has criticised the popular reality television show Big Brother Naija (BBNaija), describing it as a “satanic distraction” that Christians must reject.
In a Facebook post sighted by GhanaWeb Entertainment, the clergyman warned that the show is not just harmless entertainment but a deliberate tool that promotes immorality and weakens spiritual values.
According to him, BBNaija is filled with content that goes against Christian principles, including nudity, vulgar language, emotional manipulation, and other elements that he believes are spiritually dangerous.
“BBNaija Is Not Just a Show, It’s a Satanic Distraction. Christians, Turn It Off. Would Jesus sit down with you and watch BBNaija? If your answer is no, then why are you still watching it? BBNaija is not entertainment. It is a spiritual weapon of mass destruction, wrapped in lights, cameras, and seduction.
“And if you are a Christian who watches it, supports it, or defends it, you are part of the problem. We’ve reached a generation where nudity, vulgarity, and immoral living are streamed into our living rooms, and we call it ‘fun.’ We laugh at what makes God weep. We support what drags souls to hell,” the priest wrote.
The Catholic priest noted that the kind of content people consume through television and social media affects their thoughts, behavior, and spiritual life.
He warned that constant exposure to the themes of the BBNaija reality show, such as sexual immorality, profanity, gossip, and toxic competition, can make viewers insensitive to sin.
“Don’t be deceived. BBNaija is not ‘just a show.’ The human mind and heart are shaped by what they feed on. You can’t watch sexual immorality, gossip, drunkenness, and emotional manipulation every night and expect to walk in purity, holiness, or peace,” he stated.
The priest added that many people claim they want to hear from God or experience spiritual growth, but their choices show otherwise. He pointed out that what they watch and give their time to influences their spiritual state.
“You claim you want to hear the Holy Spirit, but your ears are tuned to housemates cursing, fighting, and seducing each other. You pray for revival, but your screen time reveals your real altar.
“BBNaija Is Training You to Become Morally Numb. What are we doing celebrating a program that glorifies fornication, greed, gossip? What BBNaija teaches: It’s okay to manipulate others for attention. Modesty is outdated. Fame justifies anything,” Philip wrote.

The Manhyia Palace has denied allegations that it played any role in the recent release of media personality Paul Adom-Otchere from the custody of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
The response follows widespread media speculation suggesting that the palace intervened to facilitate Adom-Otchere’s release after his brief detention over a controversial revenue assurance contract awarded during his tenure as Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL).
Speaking in an interview on Opemsuo Radio, which is a Manhyia-affiliated station, a senior palace official, referred to only as “Prof,” clarified the official stance of the Asantehene’s palace.
He asserted that unless a message or endorsement is issued directly by the Chief of Staff, one of the Otumfuo’s secretaries, or the Chief Linguist, it should not be considered the official position of Manhyia.
“As you know, Manhyia has a process for handling such matters. Any official communication must come from the Chief of Staff, the Otumfuo’s secretaries, or through the linguist,” he stated.
“So, if a chief says something somewhere, it is not related to Manhyia. They shouldn’t associate Manhyia with their personal dealings. How often does Paul Adom-Otchere even come to Manhyia?”
The statement comes after Adom-Otchere, upon his release, expressed gratitude to several individuals and institutions, including the Manhyia Palace, implying they had criticised the original bail conditions set by the OSP and helped secure his release.
Adom-Otchere was detained on July 31, 2025, in connection with a revenue assurance contract reportedly awarded by the GACL without adherence to proper procurement procedures. The OSP has stated that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
He was released on August 1, 2025, after revised bail conditions were approved.
His initial detention was extended due to his inability to provide landed property as surety, a requirement he publicly contested, arguing that he does not own such property in Ghana.

The list of countries to be affected by this US bond will be announced in 15 days
The US State Department is advancing plans to impose bonds as high as $15,000 for some tourism and business visas, according to a draft of a temporary final rule.
The bonds would be issued to visitors from countries with significant overstay rates under a 12-month pilot program.
This renews an initiative in November 2020 during President Donald Trump’s first administration.
The rule would have required a $15,000 bond for tourist and business travelers from two dozen countries with 10% or higher overstay rates, mostly in Africa, if Donald Trump had won the presidential bid over Joe Biden in that year.
The new federal registry notice of the visa bond pilot program is scheduled to be published on August 5, 2025.
“The Pilot Program will enable the Department to assess the operational feasibility of posting, processing, and discharging visa bonds, in coordination with the Department of the Treasury (‘Treasury’) and the Department of Homeland Security (‘DHS’), and to inform any future decision concerning the possible use of visa bonds to ensure nonimmigrants using these visa categories comply with the terms and conditions of their visas and timely depart the United States,” it stated.
It said it would announce the countries in question at the “Travel.State.Gov” website no fewer than 15 days before the pilot program takes effect.
It also said the list might change, again with 15 days notice.
Tourists and business travelers would receive their bonds back when they depart the US, are naturalised as a citizen or die, according to the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement regulations.

The Ninth Parliament has wrapped up its second meeting of the first session, with reflections on both accomplishments and challenges.
Addressing MPs in a closing statement delivered on his behalf by First Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor, Speaker Alban Bagbin commended members for their display of bipartisanship, describing it as a rare demonstration of national unity in service of the public good.
For women who value classic elegance and refined simplicity, plain but luxurious fabrics serve as the ultimate foundation for creating breathtaking outfits. Textiles like satin, silk, chiffon, crepe, and velvet are beloved not just for their smooth textures and lustrous finishes, but also for their ability to bring sophistication to even the most minimalistic designs. These fabrics are perfect choices for upscale occasions, including weddings, black-tie events, cocktail parties, and formal evening gatherings.
Plain fabrics offer a blank canvas that allows the craftsmanship, tailoring, and silhouette of a gown to truly shine. One of the most universally flattering designs is the A-line gown. With its flowing shape and cinched waist, it complements various body types and offers a graceful yet comfortable fit. For a more structured and dramatic appeal, mermaid and straight-cut gowns are ideal. These styles contour the figure, creating a stunning hourglass effect before subtly flaring out.
Modern twists can easily be added to elevate these simple gowns. Design elements like puffed or exaggerated sleeves, asymmetrical necklines, delicate belts, and front slits bring character and contemporary flair without overpowering the understated beauty of the fabric. Wrap gowns are also an excellent choice, offering an effortlessly chic look with their draped elegance and adjustable fit—ideal for both day and night events.
High-neck gowns with open-back accents merge modesty with allure, creating a tasteful yet bold fashion statement. When enhanced with thoughtful tailoring and the right accessories—such as bold earrings, a sleek clutch, or strappy heels—these gowns become striking ensembles that exude confidence and class.
Investing in high-quality plain fabrics and timeless silhouettes is a graceful way to embrace sophistication. With the right details and styling, simplicity becomes the ultimate form of elegance.
Funny Face and Vanessa during their reconciliation
Comedian and actor, Benson Nana Yaw Oduro Boateng, popularly known as Funny Face, has reconciled with his former partner and mother of his children, Vanessa Nicole, after a long public conflict and emotional strain.
In a post on Instagram, Funny Face confirmed the reunion and expressed his appreciation to those who played a role in making the reconciliation possible.
“Thank you Vanessa for the opportunity to co-parent!! God bless Kwaku Manu, Mama Vida, Mystic Twins, Mama Mavis, Ohene and Jah Wisdom!!! Ghana, Ghana I truly appreciate you all too for your support and prayers.
Lessons learnt the hard way… massive apologies to anyone I offended…Please find a place in your beautiful hearts to forgive me… I love you,” he wrote.
The reunion follows a highly publicised and often painful fallout between the two, during which both parties publicly shared their grievances. The breakdown in their relationship had taken a significant toll on Funny Face, contributing to mental health struggles and a long separation from his children.
Over the weekend, a video of the pair went viral, showing Funny Face and Vanessa sitting side by side in a room. At one point, the two shared a hug, and Funny Face was seen promising to change for the better — a gesture many interpreted as the moment of reconciliation.
The news has been met with widespread positivity, with fans and industry colleagues alike applauding the couple for choosing peace and unity, especially for the sake of their children.
This marks a fresh chapter for Funny Face, who has openly battled depression and personal challenges in recent years. For many, the reunion is not just a personal triumph for the entertainer, but a symbol of healing, forgiveness, and second chances.
Former Deputy Minister for Finance, Dr Alex Ampaabeng, has openly declared his support for Kennedy Agyapong in the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries scheduled for 31 January 2026.

A new 13-week Mini MBA programme aimed at enhancing innovation and sustainability among Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) has been launched through a collaboration involving MTN Ghana, Absa Bank Ghana, and Nova Business School Africa.
The programme is part of a broader initiative to improve business and leadership skills among SMEs, with a focus on fostering long-term competitiveness. Fifty SMEs have been selected to participate, beginning with an orientation and introductory training session facilitated by Nova Business School Africa.
Participants will receive instruction in key business areas such as strategic planning, financial management, branding, digital transformation, succession planning, and market expansion.
The SMEs chosen for the programme represent a variety of sectors including agribusiness, manufacturing, ICT, services, retail, and the creative industries. Of the 50 participants, 30 were nominated by MTN Ghana, while 20 were selected by Absa Bank Ghana through a programme targeting women-led enterprises.
At the launch event, Benedict Bentil, a representative from MTN Ghana, said that while many SMEs in Ghana demonstrate strong potential, they often lack access to tools and systems that support business growth. He explained that the programme was developed to provide participants with structured knowledge and mentorship opportunities.
Mr. Bentil also indicated that participants would receive three months of post-training support to assist in applying what they learn during the course.
Head of Agribusiness at Absa Bank Ghana, William Nettey, stressed the importance of strengthening SMEs, especially those led by women. He noted that entrepreneurs frequently encounter challenges related to financing, formalisation, and market adaptation, and said that capacity-building efforts such as this programme are critical for business resilience.
Professor Mathew Tsamenyi, President and CEO of Nova Business School Africa, stated that the curriculum was shaped by both local and international experts, with a focus on practicality and relevance to the Ghanaian business environment.
The Communications Minister, Sam George, has issued an ultimatum to Multichoice Ghana, the operators of DSTV and GoTV.
Minister for Communication, Digital Technology & Innovations, Sam George
He wants DSTV subscription prices reduced to reflect the macroeconomic gains Ghana has made, particularly the more than 40 percent appreciation of the cedi recorded in the first half of the year.
If Multichoice fails to comply by August 7th, the minister has directed the National Communications Authority to suspend the company’s license.
The cedi began 2025 at GH¢14.7 to the dollar. It has since appreciated and remained stable between GH¢10.3 and GH¢10.5 since April. Multichoice has often cited exchange rate pressures as justification for previous price hikes.
Now the government wants that logic applied in reverse.
After a series of engagements, the Ministry directed Multichoice to reduce DSTV package prices by 30%. The company has declined, calling the directive untenable.
In response, the Minister has instructed the National Communications Authority (NCA) to suspend Multichoice’s licence by Thursday, August 7, if the company does not comply.
The Minister also points to disparities in pricing across Africa.
DSTV’s premium package costs $29.05 in Nigeria, $38.66 in South Africa, and $82.41 in Ghana. While the difference may seem excessive, pricing across countries depends on more than just exchange rates. Market size, tax policy, content licensing, inflation, and income levels all play a role.
Even so, Ghana’s price stands out.
If the proposed 30 percent cut is not backed by clear data and evidence of excessive profit margins or pricing insensitivity, the government could open itself up to legal challenges or international arbitration.
So can the NCA suspend DSTV’s license?
Before any suspension or revocation, the NCA must:
Provide 30 days’ written notice, citing the grounds
Allow the company to respond or remedy the breach
Consider any written objections submitted within the specified time
What happens next?
The suspension of Multichoice’s license will have to follow this legal process. Anything short of that opens the government up to litigation.
The entire country now awaits August 7 to see which side backs down, if any
The National Commission for Culture (NCC) has inaugurated a new governing board with a mandate to strengthen Ghana’s cultural identity and support the country’s broader development agenda.
The swearing-in ceremony took place in Accra on Monday, August 4, 2025. Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, who also chairs the board, underscored the importance of strategic leadership in safeguarding and promoting Ghana’s rich and diverse cultural heritage.
The newly appointed board members are: Wakefield Wisdom Ackuaku, Richard Baffour-Awuah, Bridget Mensah, Abena Annobea Asare, Mama Aflo-Vuiede II, Dr. Jacob Paarechuga Anankware, Gladys Boateng, Anna Kportufe, Edinam Korkor Atatsi, Mildred Ashley, Abdul-Samed Yakubu Gomda, and Adiza Baba-Issah.
The board is expected to provide policy direction and oversight to support the NCCE’s mission of civic education, social accountability, and national development.
August 7 action against DStv will proceed as planned – Sam George

Presidential hopeful and former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ing Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, has issued a passionate appeal to members of the party to return to its foundational values of sacrifice, humility, and service, warning against the growing culture of materialism and self-interest.
Speaking at a public forum to mark the 78th anniversary of the formation of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) — Ghana’s first political movement — Ing Agyepong urged the party faithful to rekindle the spirit of nationalism and principled leadership upon which the NPP’s tradition was built.
“We must respect and reward those who have sacrificed for the party and the country — not those who have become overly acquisitive in life,” he stated.
The commemorative event was organised by the Patriotic Institute, in collaboration with the NPP Council of Elders, and was chaired by veteran politician Hackman Owusu-Agyemang.
It brought together party stalwarts, elders, and a vibrant contingent of young political enthusiasts.
Positioning himself as a candidate of renewal and responsibility, Agyepong emphasised that politics must serve the welfare of the ordinary Ghanaian, particularly the vulnerable, and not be reduced to a vehicle for personal enrichment.
“The centerpiece of politics is the welfare of the ordinary person. As a party, we must cultivate a collegial spirit that prioritizes the collective good over individual ambition,” he said.
His address echoed his broader campaign platform anchored on ethical leadership, constitutionalism, and discipline in public life.
He called for a new breed of politician—one guided by laws, moral duty, and a commitment to loving one’s neighbor.
“This is how we build a new Ghanaian — one who puts country first,” Agyepong noted.
He also lauded the Patriotic Institute and the Council of Elders for providing a platform to engage with the party’s founding ideals, and for nurturing intergenerational dialogue on how to restore the NPP’s political tradition.
Kwabena Agyepong’s remarks have resonated widely within the party’s grassroots base, particularly among the youth, as the NPP prepares for a pivotal contest to elect its 2028 flagbearer.

Armah Kofi Buah is the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources
The government of Ghana has approved a new national programme aimed at reforming small-scale mining and creating sustainable jobs across the country.
Known as the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP), the initiative is an upgrade of the existing Community Mining Scheme and the National Alternative Employment and Livelihood Programme.
According to a release by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the new programme will focus on supporting locally owned mining cooperatives with training, legal concessions, and access to modern equipment.
It will also help eliminate harmful practices like the use of mercury by introducing safe, centralised gold processing centres.
Beyond mining, the programme will provide technical, agricultural, digital, and entrepreneurial training to women and young people to open up more job opportunities.
It will also support land restoration, agriculture, and the development of social infrastructure like water systems, schools, health facilities, and clean energy projects in mining communities.

Private legal practitioner Bernard Baidoo has been elected as the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) candidate for the upcoming by-election in Akwatia in the Eastern Region.
He will be contesting the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Solomon Kwame Asumadu, who was unanimously endorsed by the party for the by-election slated for September 2, 2025.
The Akwatia seat became vacant following the sudden death of Member of Parliament for the area, the late Ernest Yaw Kumi, who is said to have suffered from cardiac arrest.
The NPP has already began campaigning in the constituency and hopes to win the seat that was occupied by them until the death of Kumi.
Vacancy
The Electoral Commission (EC) on July 30, 2025, declared the Akwatia seat vacant in line with Article 112(5) of the Constitution, which mandates a by-election when a parliamentary seat becomes vacant.
The EC, in a statement, noted that it will open nominations for individuals interested in contesting the by-election, indicating that nomination forms can be downloaded from its official website (www.ec.gov.gh) starting from July 30, 2025 through to August 13, 2025.
The statement further stated that submission of nomination forms will take place at the Denkyembour District Office from August 11 to 13, 2025, between 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm daily.
It pegged the filing fee at GH¢10,000 per candidate, while female candidates and persons with disabilities are to pay a reduced fee of GH¢7,500.
Kwame Asumadu
The NPP, on July 28, 2025, endorsed Solomon Kwame Asumadu, the Chief Executive of Owuo Mining Company, as its parliamentary candidate for the upcoming Akwatia by-election.
The Eastern Regional Chairman of the party, Jeff Konadu Addo, who disclosed this at a press briefing in Parliament, noted that the decision followed extensive stakeholder consultations, during which a proposal to organise a primary was overwhelmingly rejected in favour of a consensus-based approach.
“We commissioned research and gathered the names of all individuals who had expressed interest in contesting. After evaluating the findings, it was clear that Solomon Kwame Asumadu stood out as the most suitable candidate,” Mr. Addo said.
He pointed out that findings from the research were presented to the party’s National Council, which subsequently approved Asumadu’s candidacy.
“Today marks the official announcement of Kwame Asumadu as the NPP’s candidate for the Akwatia by-election,” he added.
Bernard Baidoo
The legal practitioner was elected as the NDC’s candidate after polling 380 votes to beat his close contender, Erasmus Ali Korney, who secured 366 votes.
Surprisingly, he defeated former Member of Parliament (MP) Henry Yiadom Boakye, whom he had represented at both the High Court in Koforidua and the Supreme Court in a case challenging the election of the late Ernest Kumi as the MP of the area. Mr. Yiadom polled 232 votes.
The lawyer was declared the winner by the regional Electoral Commission Director, Appiah Baffoe.
President John Dramani Mahama, has reaffirmed his government’s unwavering commitment to prioritising development in the Volta Region.
Speaking during a courtesy call by the Volta Regional House of Chiefs at the Jubilee House, the President emphasised his administration’s dedication to inclusive governance and tangible results that address the aspirations of all Ghanaians, particularly those in the Volta Region.
Ghana is on the path to energy self-sufficiency as Genser Energy develops a 200 million cubic feet per day gas processing plant in Prestea, Western Region.
Ghana currently produces 380 million cubic feet of natural gas per day, which falls short of its daily peak needs of 460 million cubic feet.
But Genser Energy’s rolled-out gas infrastructure, along with Ghana Gas’s 150 mcf/d capacity, is expected to bridge the gap between demand and supply.
Ghana, through the West Africa Gas Pipeline, imports about 80 million cubic feet daily from Nigeria to meet demands.
This arrangement is associated with high costs of processing and transmission.
The construction of another gas processing plant by Genser Energy has been hailed as the solution to meeting Ghana’s gas demands through domestic sources.
Vice President of Operations for the Natural Gas Pipeline at Genser Energy Ghana Limited, Henry Abeiku Oppong, stated, “Given the current deficit and reliance on imports, Ghana must develop greater processing capacity to fully utilise its resources. We need to become self-reliant in energy production and consumption.”
Mr. Oppong made these remarks during a lecture at KNUST about the 430-km gas pipeline that Genser Energy is designing, constructing, and preparing to operationalise from Atuabo to Kumasi.
“We have been able to build a pipeline to Kumasi that makes up the 430 kilometres, and then the energy authorities are relocating from Tema to Kumasi because they will have access to available gas, and that positions Kumasi to be the new Tema.
“You have access to a huge energy infrastructure revolution. So that’s what you can see here.
“So in the future the north can easily be linked and that could revolutionise industrialisation because we need energy to be abundant to be able to grow our energy infrastructures, positioning Ghana to increase our speed in industrialisation,” he added.
The pipeline, which forms part of a larger network, is being developed in partnership with the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) using local engineers, mostly KNUST-trained.
Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering at KNUST, Professor Francis Kemausuor, indicated KNUST’s commitment to advancing engineering excellence and sustainable energy development in Ghana.
“This lecture reflects our shared commitment to advancing engineering excellence and sustainable energy development in Ghana. And Genser Energy, whose collaboration continues to inspire innovation and practical solutions in the energy sector. As we explore the transformative potential of natural gas infrastructure, let us engage with open minds and a shared vision for fuelling Ghana’s future,” he emphasised.
Meanwhile, a professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at KNUST, Professor David Quansah, says the joint initiatives aim to bridge classroom theory with real industry practice.
“We realised that it would be good and beneficial to have staff and students visiting the facilities of Genser, collaboratively implementing technical seminars and guest lecturing by Genser staff, and support for research on subjects of mutual interest.
“These interventions are not some fanciful theories but a fundamental knowledge that is critical for industry practice. You would find that pipeline diameters are not chosen at random and that what you do in fluid mechanics and compressible flow finds daily application in industry,” he said.
Under the theme “Fuelling Ghana’s Future: Engineering Excellence in Natural Gas Infrastructure Development”, the lecture is a partnership between KNUST College of Engineering and Genser Energy.

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has expressed concern over the current state of politics in Ghana, particularly the rising incidence of political violence and the dominance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
It stressed the importance of free and fair elections, devoid of violence, and called for a more inclusive and peaceful political environment where other voices and opinions would also matter.
In a statement signed by the CPP’s National Deputy Secretary, Enoch Donald Sakpa, the party highlighted challenges encountered during the recent election rerun in Ablekuma North, including inadequate resources and the presence of organised vigilante groups.
“Despite these challenges, the CPP remains hopeful and committed to promoting peace and stability in the electoral process,” it stated.
Violence
The statement stressed that violence was not a solution to political differences and called for those responsible to be held accountable.
It also underscored the importance of inclusive dialogue and the protection of all Ghanaians, regardless of political affiliation.
“We believe that Ghana’s hospitality, honesty, and love for forgiveness are essential values that should guide the country’s politics,” it noted.
Peace
The statement called on all Ghanaians who share in the vision of the CPP for a more peaceful and inclusive politics to join the party in promoting a culture of peace and stability, stressing that “by working together, Ghanaians can build a better future for all.”
It said the CPP’s approach to politics was rooted in promoting peace, stability, and inclusivity.
“The party’s leadership believes that this approach is essential for building a more harmonious and prosperous society, where all Ghanaians can thrive,” the statement said.- GNA
Years ago before I got married to my wife, she never agreed to spending the night with me.
She will mostly say she wasn’t comfortable spending the night with someone she wasn’t married to.
She said her mother never tolerated that growing up.
All the men she dated before me, she never spent the night with them also.
I thought she didn’t love me enough because she was old enough to make decisions, so I wondered why sleeping in my house was a problem?
I even had to discuss this with my friend. My friend advised me to be patient with her, and that she would come around.
Not knowing, she was hiding something from me.
I’m a 38-year-old man and my wife turned 31 not long ago. We have been married for 9 years and she has had one problem that keeps going and coming.
As I speak, I am fed up and I wish she is even out of my house this minute.
Her issue is that she keeps wetting the bed. She urinates on our bed anytime she sleeps, whether day or night.
Once she is asleep, she has to urinate on the bed before waking up.
This is what she came to the marriage with, it was after marriage that she explained to me that it’s been her problem since she turned 15, and that was why she never agreed to sleep over at my end.
She hid it from me, she should have at least told me when we were dating, but she said she thought it would end once she married because her mother used to say that.
We’ve been to places to find solution but it’s always temporary.
Sometimes it lasts just a week or two then she returns to it. I’m not seeking anymore solution. I’m so done because I’ve invested a lot into helping her out but this is who she is.
She now sleeps on the floor and lays a rubber under her sheets. The children are growing and I don’t like what they have to see everyday.
I love her but this is becoming too much. We can’t even go anywhere and sleep over. Why? When I mentioned it to my mother, she said it’s laziness since we’ve done everything we were told to do.
I’m really tired, sometimes I wonder if she was cursed. Will it be fair to divorce her because of this? Am I taking things too far? I need your suggestions because I don’t know what to think anymore.

Paul Adom-Otchere has challenged private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu to substantiate claims that he owns four houses in Accra, asking him to provide evidence within two weeks.
“He said on a media platform that I have four properties in Accra and that he is going to show them. I sent him a text that, please, in two weeks, can you show the property?” Adom-Otchere revealed during an interview on Channel One TV on Monday, August 4, 2025.
The challenge follows growing public interest in the OSP’s bail conditions in the ongoing investigation into a revenue assurance contract awarded by GACL during Adom-Otchere’s tenure.
The former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) and broadcaster was detained on July 31, 2025, for failing to meet the bail requirement of providing two landed properties as surety, a condition he said he could not meet due to his lack of landed property in Ghana.
Adom-Otchere has consistently defended his claim that he owns no estate registered in his name, despite widespread public scepticism and criticisms from Martin Kpebu.
“I have no landed property in my name, and that is easily verifiable,” he maintained.
“If a person lives in a house for 20 years and says, I don’t have landed property, why is that awkward? The house address is available, the Lands Commission is available, everyone can check,” he added.
He further pushed back against societal assumptions, suggesting that shared family property is often wrongly attributed solely to men.
“I even look at it as a bit chauvinistic… If a man and a woman live together and have a house, it is believed that it belongs to the man. But people act differently,” he said.
Martin Kpebu, speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story on Friday, August 1, 2025, cast doubt on Adom-Otchere’s declarations, claiming multiple sources have informed him that the broadcaster owns several properties in Accra.
“Paul telling OSP that he has no property is false… Not one, not two. There are people who are buzzing my phone, telling me they will take me to show the properties that Paul paid them money to build,” Kpebu alleged.
“He was attempting to mislead the OSP,” he added.
Kpebu argued that the OSP should not rely solely on such declarations when setting bail terms, especially in high-profile cases.
Adom-Otchere, who was later released after the Jospong Group of Companies stepped in as surety under revised bail conditions, questioned the OSP’s initial approach.
