Latest Lace Style Designs for Ladies

0

Lace fabric has long been a symbol of grace, sophistication, and femininity, and it continues to be one of the most sought-after materials in women’s fashion. The versatility of lace allows designers to create stunning pieces that cater to a wide range of occasions, from weddings and formal events to casual gatherings. The latest lace style designs for ladies blend timeless elegance with modern trends, ensuring that lace remains a key fabric in contemporary wardrobes.

One of the most prominent trends in lace fashion is the incorporation of bold, intricate patterns. Modern lace styles feature intricate floral motifs, geometric shapes, and even 3D embellishments that add texture and depth to the fabric. These designs elevate the traditional lace look and create a more dynamic and contemporary aesthetic. Many designers are experimenting with contrasting lace patterns, combining delicate lace with other fabrics like satin, velvet, or silk, to achieve a chic and stylish effect.

Lace dresses remain a staple in women’s wardrobes, but the latest designs go beyond the classic form. Off-shoulder, one-shoulder, and halter necklines are becoming increasingly popular, allowing women to showcase their elegance while adding a modern twist to their look. For a more daring approach, lace gowns and dresses are often adorned with sheer panels or open-back designs, providing a touch of sensuality and sophistication.

Another trending lace style is the incorporation of lace into separates. Lace blouses, skirts, and pants have become a fashion-forward alternative to full lace dresses. A lace blouse paired with tailored trousers or a lace skirt matched with a silk top can create an effortlessly chic outfit that’s perfect for both formal and semi-formal occasions. These combinations allow for more versatility, as they can be mixed and matched with other wardrobe staples.

The color palette for lace designs has also expanded, moving beyond the traditional white and black. While white lace is still a go-to for weddings, vibrant shades like emerald green, royal blue, and blush pink are making waves in casual and evening wear. Additionally, lace is being used in bold color-block designs, which allow for a more modern and edgy take on the fabric.

Accessories such as lace shawls, handbags, and even lace headpieces are also making a statement, adding layers of style to outfits. When styled correctly, lace accessories can enhance a look without overwhelming it.

In conclusion, the latest lace style designs for ladies are all about embracing both tradition and innovation. From bold patterns to chic separates, lace continues to be a timeless fabric that exudes elegance while allowing for creative expression. Whether for a wedding, a special event, or a day out, lace designs offer endless possibilities for women who want to embrace style and sophistication in their wardrobes.

What has the gov’t used the dollar for? – John Boadu questions currency stability

0

Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has raised concerns about the government’s management of the economy despite the recent appreciation of the cedi.

Speaking on Adom TV’s Badwam morning show, Mr. Boadu questioned how the government has utilised the gains made by the local currency.

“So far, what has the government used the dollar for? They are not spending. For the past eight months, we haven’t repaid our loans, contractors haven’t been paid, and even interest on delayed payments hasn’t been made,” he said.

He expressed worry that economic activities remain stagnant, with no new projects and declining revenue inflows.

“The more there is no economic activity, the fewer resources the government will have to work with,” he added.

Presenting the 2025 Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review in Parliament, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson hailed the cedi’s recent performance as historic and unprecedented, describing it as the strongest in the currency’s 60-year history.

According to him, as of the end of June 2025, the cedi had appreciated by 42.6% against the US dollar, 30.3% against the British pound, and 25.6% against the euro.

He contrasted this with the same period in 2024, when the cedi depreciated by 18.6%, 17.9%, and 16.0% respectively, against those currencies.

Veteran actress Belinda Naa Ode Oku, popularly known as Adwoa Smart, has opened up about the challenges that come with being famous.

According to her, it is always assumed that stars are rich.

Speaking in an interview with Kwaku Manu, Adwoa Smart shared that despite her fame in the early 2000s and roles in numerous productions, she has been struggling financially.

“Where I stay is not good enough. When my siblings tell people we are related, they will be wondering if it’s true. Then they will start making assumptions that we are rich” she said.

She continued, “Some people also think I live in a mansion at Trassaco. Some too think if it’s not Trassaco, then I live in the rich estates and living life. It’s never been easy for me.”

Adwoa Smart added that most movie producers are part of their financial instability.

Buttressing on that she said, “The fact that some producers wouldn’t want to pay after working for them. They would call you to come and shoot for them, then they will say they will pay after the shoot but they never pay.

“Even most of the actors who are late, the producers owe them. People will always see you on the screen but you don’t have money.”

A tragic helicopter crash in Adanse Sikaman on August 6, 2025, has claimed the lives of several high-profile individuals, including the Minister for Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, and the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.

The aircraft involved in the crash has been identified as a Z-9EH military helicopter, a Chinese-made naval platform known for its versatility and rugged performance.

The Z-9EH is a specialised variant of the Z-9 helicopter, itself a Chinese-licensed version of the French Eurocopter AS365 Dauphin. It is primarily used by the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) and other security forces for anti-submarine warfare, anti-ship operations, and search-and-rescue (SAR) missions.

Typically operated by a two-person crew, the helicopter can transport large groups, up to 73 troops or 48 paratroopers, making it ideal for military personnel movement.

In medical emergencies, it can accommodate up to 27 stretchers with medical staff or 12 intensive care units, underscoring its value in evacuation and humanitarian operations.

Powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW127G turboprop engines, the Z-9EH can cruise at speeds of up to 482 km/h (300 mph). It has a ferry range of 5,000 km and can operate at altitudes of over 30,000 feet, with in-flight refueling capabilities that enable extended missions.

While the exact cause of the crash remains unknown at the time of filing this report, Ghanaian authorities and the Ghana Armed Forces have confirmed that the helicopter went off radar at around 9:00 a.m. on August 6, 2025.

The aircraft was reportedly transporting the officials to a scheduled programme in Obuasi when the incident occurred.

The crash has sent shockwaves across the country and raised urgent questions about military aviation safety and aircraft maintenance standards in Ghana.

IEAG raises alarm over NIA-GRA data conflict

Samson Asaki Awingobit is Executive Secretary of the Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana Samson Asaki Awingobit is Executive Secretary of the Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana

The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana (IEAG) has raised concerns that the ongoing conflict between the National Identification Authority (NIA) and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) could seriously disrupt business operations, particularly within the maritime sector.

Speaking at the Association’s 11th anniversary launch on August 6, 2025, Executive Secretary Samson Asaki Awingobit sounded the alarm following reports that the NIA has formally notified the Data Protection Commission of its intention to access the GRA’s servers to delete its data.

According to Awingobit, such an action could lead to widespread delays in the customs clearance process, disrupt supply chains, and significantly increase the cost of doing business for importers and exporters.

“This is crucial, considering the potential implications for businesses, especially in the maritime trade sector. From a professional standpoint, if the NIA proceeds to delete its data from the GRA servers, it could severely impact operations across the maritime space,” he stated.

He urged both agencies to exercise restraint and called on GRA leadership to engage the NIA in constructive dialogue to resolve the issue swiftly.

Awingobit also appealed to the government and policymakers to intervene and ensure institutional cooperation, warning that continued tension between state agencies could undermine Ghana’s trade competitiveness.

The Association said it is closely monitoring the situation and reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for stability and efficiency in Ghana’s trade ecosystem.

Can CK Akonnor redeem himself in Kenyan league after Black Stars failure?

0

CK Akonnor is the head coach of Gor Mahia CK Akonnor is the head coach of Gor Mahia

When CK Akonnor steps into the dugout for Gor Mahia’s opening match of the 2025/26 Kenyan Premier League season, he won’t just be taking charge of Kenya’s most decorated football club, he’ll be stepping into a personal mission of redemption.

The 51-year-old Ghanaian has signed a two-year deal with the Nairobi-based giants, marking his return to frontline coaching after a period of silence that followed a turbulent stint as head coach of the Ghana national team.

The appointment makes Akonnor the first Ghanaian to manage Gor Mahia, a club with 21 league titles but currently smarting from their recent dethronement by Police FC.

Akonnor arrives with pedigree. As a player, he captained the Black Stars and played top-level football in Germany.

As a coach, he led traditional Ghanaian heavyweights like Hearts of Oak, Ashanti Gold, and Asante Kotoko.

But it was his appointment as head coach of Ghana in January 2020, succeeding Kwesi Appiah, that represented the pinnacle of his managerial journey.

However, that peak quickly gave way to a painful descent.

Tasked with qualifying Ghana for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Akonnor managed ten matches, winning four, losing four, and drawing two.

It was an uninspiring run, and in September 2021, the Ghana Football Association terminated his contract.

Fans and pundits questioned his tactical decisions and player selections. Others felt he had been handed a thankless job in a team lacking long-term structure.

Either way, his dismissal left a scar,a national hero whose coaching dream had gone sour on the biggest stage.

Now, nearly four years later, Akonnor is being handed the reins of another sleeping giant, Gor Mahia. The expectations are no less daunting.

The club missed out on the 2024/25 title, losing it to a resurgent Police FC. For a club that has built its identity on dominance and silverware, finishing second was unacceptable.

The brief for Akonnor is clear: reclaim the throne, restore pride, and bring back the identity that once made Gor Mahia untouchable.

For Akonnor, the challenge is twofold.

On one hand, this is a fresh start in a new footballing landscape. The Kenyan league offers less scrutiny than the unforgiving Ghanaian media space, but it’s not without pressure.

Gor Mahia fans demand results, and anything short of a league title will be seen as failure.

On the other hand, this is a chance to repair his managerial brand. Akonnor is still only 51, young by modern coaching standards, and success in Kenya could open doors to opportunities across the continent.

Coaches like Pitso Mosimane have proven that reputations can be rebuilt beyond your home country.

More than that, Akonnor will be trying to reassert a core belief, that he is more than just the coach who couldn’t take Ghana to the World Cup.

Whether he succeeds or not will depend on how quickly he adapts to Gor Mahia’s setup, the quality of players at his disposal, and whether the club’s board gives him the support needed to execute his vision.

His experience managing giants like Kotoko and Hearts will serve him well. But so will the hard lessons from his Black Stars tenure, where tactical rigidity and external pressure often stifled his potential.

Kenyan football has changed in recent years. Clubs like Police FC, Tusker, and Kakamega Homeboyz have grown in strength and organization.

Gor Mahia can no longer rely on legacy alone, they need tactical clarity, dressing room harmony, and consistent performances.

In Akonnor, they may just have the man to deliver that.

And for Akonnor himself, this isn’t just a job, it’s a second chance. A shot at redemption.

Nigeria seizes 1,600 birds in ‘largest’ wildlife-trafficking bust

Biggest wildlife trafficking seizure photo Biggest wildlife trafficking seizure photo

Nigeria’s customs agency says it has seized over 1,600 birds bound for Kuwait, in what it described as the country’s “largest” wildlife-trafficking bust.

Ring-necked parrots and green- and yellow-fronted canaries were intercepted at Lagos International Airport, by Nigeria’s Customs Service (NCS) on 31 July, the agency said in a statement on Tuesday.

It is the “largest” seizure by number, NCS spokesperson Abdullahi Maiwada told the BBC, in a country where wildlife trafficking is frequent.

Nigeria’s porous borders, widespread corruption and weak enforcement have made it a key transit hub for ivory, pangolin scales and other wildlife products.

The NCS said it was able to intercept the birds through routine checks.

The statement said the shipment didn’t have the required documentation and permits. Although the birds are common, they are required to have proper papers.

An investigation is underway to find and prosecute those responsible for the illicit cargo, it said, adding that the birds would be handed to the National Parks Service for rehabilitation before being released into the wild.

Although the seizure was made on 31 July, it was only shared publicly on Tuesday so as to not “jeopardise” the investigation, said Mr Maiwada.

He added that most trafficked animals from Nigeria are bound for Asia.

Nigeria is a signatory to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (Cites) – the international treaty which governs the trade in rare plants and animals – but remains a hub for illegal wildlife trafficking.

The illegal wildlife trade globally generates $7-$23bn (£5-17bn) annually, according to animal conservation charity BirdLife International.

Songbirds like canaries are in high demand in the global trafficking trade due to popular singing competitions, the charity said.

While rare species of wild parrots can fetch $1,000 or more.

Cocoa farmers back new producer price and sector reforms

0

The Ghana Cocoa, Coffee and Sheanut Farmers Association (COCOSHE) has thrown its full support behind the government’s recent upward adjustment of the cocoa producer price for the 2025/2026 crop season.

At a press conference in Accra under the theme “Supporting Ghana’s Cocoa Vision – A United Voice of the Farmer,” COCOSHE praised the government and Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) for what it called a fair and progressive decision aimed at protecting farmers’ livelihoods.

The National President of COCOSHE, Alhaji Alhassan Bukari, lauded the increase in the producer price from GH¢3,100 to GH¢3,228.75 per 64kg bag, which translates to GH¢51,660 per tonne. The new price constitutes 70 per cent of the achieved Free-on-Board (FoB) price—an improvement on last season’s 63.9 per cent share. “In many other producing countries, the price would have been slashed. But here, the Government and COCOBOD chose instead to protect farmers,” Alhaji Bukari stated, highlighting the administration’s sensitivity to economic pressures, including the recent appreciation of the cedi against the dollar.

COCOSHE also praised the transparent process that led to the price announcement. According to the association, four farmer representatives participated in the Producer Price Review Committee, while COCOBOD engaged with regional heads of COCOSHE across the country. “We appreciate the transparency shown. This was not a backroom decision,” Bukari noted.

In addition to the price adjustment, COCOSHE expressed strong support for a range of initiatives introduced by government and COCOBOD to revitalise the cocoa sector. These include the free distribution of fertilizers, insecticides, fungicides, flower inducers and spraying machines starting in the 2025/2026 season; the launch of the Ghana Cocoa Traceability System to align with global regulations, particularly the European Union’s Deforestation Regulation; and the introduction of a tertiary scholarship scheme for children of cocoa farmers, which begins in the 2026/2027 academic year.

The association also welcomed the transfer of the cocoa roads portfolio from COCOBOD to the Ministry of Roads and Highways. According to COCOSHE, this move will allow COCOBOD to focus on its primary mandate of promoting and regulating the cocoa sector.

Alhaji Bukari extended special appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for initiating the scholarship scheme, calling it a “beacon of hope” for rural families striving to access higher education.

While commending these developments, the association urged COCOBOD to ensure timely delivery of farm inputs and to improve farmer education on the new traceability system. It also called for greater clarity on pricing and exchange rate mechanisms.

Alhaji Bukari dismissed suggestions of unrest or dissatisfaction within the farming community, stressing that cocoa farmers are active partners in Ghana’s development agenda. “We are not here to protest. We are here to commend,” he said. “Ghanaian cocoa farmers are patriotic and hardworking. Our vision is to see cocoa farmers recognized not just as producers, but as agents of economic transformation.”

COCOSHE concluded with a call for unity and continued collaboration among cocoa farmers, COCOBOD and the state, encouraging all stakeholders to maintain focus and momentum towards a sustainable and prosperous cocoa sector.

Ghana’s defence and environment ministers were killed in a helicopter crash Wednesday, the Ghanaian presidency said, hours after the armed forces reported a chopper carrying three crew and five passengers dropped off the radar.

A helicopter crash in Ghana killed all 8 onboard, including two ministers. The incident has shocked the nation and led to a day of mourning(Pexel)

Edward Omane Boamah became President John Mahama’s defence minister earlier this year shortly after Mahama’s swearing-in in January.

Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed was serving as the minister of environment, science and technology.

Everyone onboard was killed in the accident, authorities said.

“The president and government extend our condolences and sympathies to the families of our comrades and the servicemen who died in service to the country,” said Mahama’s chief of staff Julius Debrah.

Boamah was helming Ghana’s defence ministry at a time when jihadist activity across its northern border in Burkina Faso has become increasingly restive.

While Ghana has so far avoided a jihadist spillover from the Sahel — unlike neighbours Togo and Benin — observers have warned of increased arms trafficking and of militants from Burkina Faso crossing the porous border to use Ghana as a rear base.

A medical doctor by training, Boamah’s career in government included stints as communications minister during Mahama’s previous 2012-2017 tenure. Before that, he was the deputy minister for environment.

The Ghanaian Armed Forces had reported earlier Wednesday that an air force helicopter had fallen off radar after taking off from Accra just after 9:00 am. It had been headed towards the town of Obuasi, northwest of the capital.

The statement had said that three crew and five passengers were aboard, without specifying at the time that the ministers were among them.

Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Ghana’s deputy national security coordinator and former agriculture minister, was among the dead, along with Samuel Sarpong, vice chairman of Mahama’s National Democratic Congress party.

As Ghana has pursued increased diplomacy with Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger — all ruled by juntas who have broken with the ECOWAS west African regional bloc — Boamah led a delegation to Ouagadougou in May.

He had been set to release a book titled “A Peaceful Man in an African Democracy”, about former president John Atta Mills, who died in 2012.

All flags were to be flown at half-staff, Debrah said, while the presidency said Mahama had cancelled his official activities for the day.

Ghana helicopter crash kills ministers of defence and environment

0

Ghana’s ministers of defence and environment have died in a military helicopter crash in the central Ashanti region, along with six other people, a government spokesperson says.

Chief of Staff Julius Debrah told a press conference that Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah and Environment, Science and Technology Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed had been killed in the crash, which he described as a “national tragedy”.

Earlier, the Ghana Armed Forces said the aircraft, which was carrying three crew and five passengers had gone “off the radar”.

It had taken off from the capital, Accra, at 09:12 local time (and GMT) and was heading to the gold-mining town of Obuasi for a national event.

The authorities have not confirmed the cause of the crash.

The chief of staff has directed the country’s flags to fly at half-mast.

He extended condolences to “the servicemen who died in service to the country,” on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama and the government.

Two times Shatta Wale has found himself in trouble with the law

0

Shatta Wale is a popular dancehall musician Shatta Wale is a popular dancehall musician

Ghanaian dancehall musician Shatta Wale is no stranger to controversy. From being jailed to ‘beefing’ with colleagues, pastors, entertainment journalists, businessmen, and policemen, the artiste has been involved in scandals of all sorts.

On the back of his most recent scandal, which involves the seizure of his Lamborghini vehicle by the EOCO, here are some instances where Shatta Wale has been trending for the wrong reasons, acts that landed him in ruthless encounters with the law.

1. Death Prophecy and Arrest over Fake Shooting (October 2021)

In mid‑October 2021, Shatta Wale found himself embroiled in legal controversy after claiming he had been shot on October 18 following a threatening prophecy.

A pastor dubbed Jesus Ahuofe had foretold on radio that the artist would be assassinated, which led Shatta Wale to stage a fake shooting incident to dramatise the warning and draw attention to it.

Authorities swiftly arrested the musician, accusing him and his associates of spreading false information likely to incite fear and disrupt public peace.

Shatta Wale and others were remanded to custody for a week before being granted bail of GH¢100,000.

At his court hearing on October 26, he pleaded guilty to publishing false news and was fined GH¢2,000 with a non‑custodial sentence, concluding the matter in court by late 2021.

Following his release, the musician defended his actions, calling the hoax a necessary move to expose the dangers of fake prophecies.

He explained that the stunt helped curb the influence of individuals promulgating false revelations that incited public fear and disrupted mental well‑being.

2. Lamborghini Seizure by EOCO (June–August 2025)

Nearly four years later, Shatta Wale was again at the centre of a high‑profile law‑enforcement action, this time involving an asset seizure.

In early June 2025, the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) carried out a search of his Trassaco Valley Phase 1 residence in Accra under the Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit (SARU).

The operation was initiated in collaboration with the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and the Department of Justice to reclaim assets tied to Ghanaian fraud convict Nana Kwabena Amuah, who is serving an 86‑month sentence in the U.S.

During the lawful operation, EOCO seized a 2019 Lamborghini Urus, which was found in Shatta Wale’s possession.

Although the artiste was not accused of wrongdoing, the seizure was carried out professionally and without incident.

Shatta Wale was permitted to surrender the vehicle voluntarily after expressing concerns about his public image if the seizure became widely publicised.

However, in August, Shatta Wale went on a barrage on social media, accusing EOCO boss Raymond Archer of leading armed officials to his house.

This prompted the EOCO to release an official statement clarifying the matter.

Prepare to lend below 10% – BoG Governor urges banks

Dr Johnson Asiama is the Governor of the Bank of Ghana play videoDr Johnson Asiama is the Governor of the Bank of Ghana

The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson Asiama, is urging financial institutions to prepare for a major shift in the banking sector as banks will soon be required to lend at rates below 10 percent.

According to him, it is time for local banks to move away from treasury bills and the central bank’s lending instruments, and instead provide a more secure foundation for private sector growth.

Ghana’s current lending rate hovers around 27.4%, making access to affordable credit a challenge for businesses and SMEs.

Meanwhile, the central bank is targeting a single-digit lending rate within the next four years.

Speaking at the Chartered Institute of Bankers (CIB) Ghana post-MPC roundtable discussion on August 5, 2025, Dr Asiama urged banks to refocus on credit expansion to productive sectors, particularly the private sector to stimulate economic growth.

“What are our banks going to do in the post-stabilisation phase? Are they prepared to lend at less than 10%? Are they ready to look beyond T-bills? Are they willing to move away from high-yield Bank of Ghana instruments? The era of high interest rates and passive investment by banks in government securities is ending. Banks must now begin to reimagine their business models, refocusing on intermediation, innovation, and credit expansion to productive sectors,” he stated.

Dr Asiama also emphasised the need to fully support key sectors of the economy, in line with the ongoing decline in inflation.

He noted that banks should prioritise and commit to green financing to support the government’s sustainability agenda.

“With inflation decelerating and rates on a downward path, there is a unique opportunity to support private sector growth, SMEs, agriculture, and above all, green financing,” he said.

“A stable macroeconomic environment is only meaningful if it translates into access to affordable credit, job creation, and inclusive economic transformation. The financial sector must be the bridge your industry must be the bridge, not the bottleneck.”

How Giovane Elber got sent off even after taping his mouth to avoid a second yellow

0

Giovane Elbar tapped his mouth during a game Giovane Elbar tapped his mouth during a game

In one of the Bundesliga’s most bizarre moments, Stuttgart striker Giovane Elber tried to stop himself from getting into more trouble by tapping his own mouth shut, but ended up being sent off anyway.

The incident occurred during a fiery clash between VfB Stuttgart and 1860 Munich in March 1997.

Elber, known for his sharp instincts in front of goal and equally sharp tongue, was shown a yellow card in the 26th minute after angrily swearing at the referee.

At half-time, the Brazilian forward took an unusual step to avoid a second booking, he wrapped red tape around his mouth and came out for the second half visibly silenced, determined not to let his words land him in more trouble.

But in the 78th minute, Elber’s efforts at self-control unraveled in a different way.

He caught an 1860 Munich player with a flying elbow, and the referee didn’t hesitate. Out came the second yellow, followed by a red. Mouth shut or not, Elber was off.

The incident became legendary just for its comic value.

Elber, who was in fine form that season, scoring 17 Bundesliga goals, later went on to play for Bayern Munich and win multiple league titles.

No Approved Transport Fare Increase – GPRTU’s Attitoe

0

By Michael Foli Jackidy

Ho (V/R), Aug. 6, GNA – Mr. Lawrence Awilo Attitoe, Vice Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) in Ho, has dismissed reports of a 20 per cent transport fare increase as false and unauthorized.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr. Attitoe stated that no transport union, including the GPRTU, has approved any fare adjustment. He emphasized that the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) lacks the authority to unilaterally declare fare increases.

His remarks follow a GRTCC press release, signed by its General Secretary, Mr. Emmanuel Ohene-Yeboah, and Acting Chairman, Alhaji Tanko, announcing a 20 per cent fare hike effective Friday, August 8.

“That directive should be disregarded. No driver union is implementing any fare increase,” Mr. Attitoe stressed.

He said GPRTU’s national office confirmed that no meeting had been held to consider or approve the proposed increase and insisted that decisions on fare adjustments are made collectively by driver unions—not the GRTCC.

“The GRTCC does not speak for us. We consult among ourselves and with the Minister for Transport before any adjustment,” he explained.

Mr. Attitoe added that the Automatic Adjustment Formula, which previously guided fare reviews, was abolished by the former government, making consensus and consultation essential.

He acknowledged the impact of the recent GH₵1.00 per litre fuel levy but urged patience, expressing hope that commodity prices would fall rather than prompting fare hikes.

He also warned that any union implementing the proposed hike would face legal consequences.

Meanwhile, the GRTCC has justified the fare increase, citing rising operational costs due to the new fuel levy, lack of price reductions in spare parts, and worsening road conditions that have escalated vehicle maintenance expenses.

BREAKING NEWS: GAF Helicopter Crashes at Adansi Sikaman, 8 Feared Dead

0

A Ghana Air Force helicopter carrying eight people, including top government officials, has gone missing after reportedly crashing near Adansi Sikaman in the Adansi North District of the Ashanti Region.

Eyewitnesses at the scene say the aircraft caught fire upon impact around mid-morning, sending thick plumes of smoke into the air and drawing dozens of residents to the site. “It just came down fast and burst into flames,” one resident recounted, and added, “We couldn’t get close because of the heat and smoke.”

Local reports indicate that the passengers were en route to Obuasi to attend a high-level government programme when the incident occurred. While the exact number of casualties remains unconfirmed, onlookers fear that all on board may have perished.

In a press release issued this afternoon, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) confirmed that the aircraft – a Z9 military helicopter – took off from Accra at 0912 hours heading for Obuasi, but went off radar shortly after. Efforts to re-establish contact have so far been unsuccessful.

According to the statement signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations for the GAF, three crew members and five passengers were on board at the time of the incident.

The military and emergency responders have since moved into the area, cordoning off parts of Adansi Sikaman as search, rescue, and recovery operations continue.

More details will be shared as they become available.

Shoprite to exit Ghana, Malawi

0

South African supermarket store Shoprite is selling its operations in Ghana and Malawi.

The move, announced by the retailer on Tuesday, is part of the chain’s efforts to focus on its home market. The planned sales follow the retailer’s exits from DR Congo, Kenya, Madagascar, Nigeria, and Uganda in the last few years.

The retrenchment follows years of expansion across the continent during which the grocery store became Africa’s top food retailer in around 15 countries. Shoprite changed course after encountering currency volatility, double-digit inflation, restrictive import regulations, and leases pegged to the US dollar — problems which were most pronounced in Angola and Nigeria.

Shoprite’s departure from other African markets contrasts with its expansion within South Africa. It has launched hundreds of new stores in its home market over the last year, scaled up its Sixty60 e-commerce delivery service, and diversified into pet supplies, health care, and outdoor gear.

Asante Kotoko hands over the iconic jersey number…to new forward Morifing Donzo

0

Asante Kotoko’s new forward, Morifing Donzo, has officially been handed the iconic number 9 shirt ahead of the upcoming season.

The 27-year-old Guinean striker, who joined the Porcupine Warriors on a three-year deal from Hafia FC, is expected to lead the club’s attacking line.

Donzo brings with him experience from the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup, and is seen as a major boost to Kotoko’s forward options.

Wearing the number 9 jersey, Donzo follows in the footsteps of some of Kotoko’s great strikers, and fans will be hoping he lives up to the expectations associated with the shirt.

Cameroonian forward George Mfegue was the last foreign player to wear the shirt, which he won the league before his departure in 2023.

WillisBeatz calls out Mr Drew over unpaid money, production credit

WillisBeatz (R) drags Mr Drew (L) over unpaid production fees WillisBeatz (R) drags Mr Drew (L) over unpaid production fees

Ghanaian sound engineer, William Osafo, popularly known as WillisBeatz, has called out singer Mr Drew for allegedly owing him money for a song they worked on together.

On August 5, 2025, WillisBeatz took to his X page to air his grievances, claiming that he has been trying to reach Mr Drew for the past four months without success.

According to him, all attempts to get the singer to settle the payment for production and splits have failed because Mr Drew has since ignored his calls.

In his post, WillisBeatz also accused Mr Drew of being dishonest about the production credits of his hit song “This Year.”

He alleged that the singer should give credit to music duo DopeNation, who, according to him, recorded the song.

This comes after DopeNation claimed in an interview with Headless YouTuber that they co-wrote the track and were involved in the recording process, but Mr Drew has not acknowledged their contribution.

“Chale adey call u.. u no dey pick my calls for the past 4 months. U owe me money for production n split and stop lying, DopeNation recorded ‘This Year’ song,” WillisBeatz wrote.

The singer responded to WillisBeatz’s post, denying any wrongdoing and insisting that WillisBeatz’s statement actually supports his own version of events.

According to Mr Drew, recording a song in someone’s studio does not mean that person wrote the song.

He accused DopeNation of making false claims and thanked WillisBeatz for what he described as “confirming the truth” in his favour.

From Mr Drew’s response, it suggests that he has now paid WillisBeatz, and therefore, there should be no further issues.

“Which lie? You just confirmed my truth lol. They said they wrote the song. If I come record song for your there mean say you write the song? So as I just sort you your money what again you get talk?” Mr Drew wrote.

The development, which caused power outages across the area, prompted an urgent working visit The development, which caused power outages across the area, prompted an urgent working visit

The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced the full restoration of electricity supply to Tamale and surrounding communities, following a temporary service withdrawal by staff of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) and the Volta River Authority (VRA).

The development, which caused power outages across the area, prompted an urgent working visit by the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor (MP), who held a series of high-level engagements with stakeholders to resolve the impasse.

During his visit, John Jinapor met with the Northern Regional Minister, the Mayor of Tamale, the management of NEDCo, leadership of the Senior Staff Association and Workers’ Unions of NEDCo and VRA, as well as regional heads of the Ghana Police Service and National Security.

The Minister also paid courtesy calls on the Gukpenaa, Kuga Naa, and Gbewaa Palaces, where he listened to the concerns of traditional authorities. He extended the Ministry’s appreciation to the Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II, for his warm reception and leadership.

“The Ministry extends its gratitude to the Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Mahama

Abukari Gariba II, for his gracious reception and insights during the visit.

“As a direct result of the Ministry’s proactive engagement, power has been fully

restored to the affected areas. The staff of NEDCo and VRA have rescinded their

decision to suspend services. The security services remain vigilant to ensure the safety and security of all,” the statement noted.

Following the intervention, staff of NEDCo and VRA have rescinded their decision to withdraw services and returned to work. The Ministry noted that security personnel remain deployed in the area to ensure the safety of utility workers and installations.

The statement signed by Energy Ministry spokesperson Richmond Rockson urged the public to avoid any acts of aggression toward utility staff.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to continuous stakeholder engagement, stressing that proactive dialogue is key to preventing future disruptions.

NPP MP Vincent Assafuah kicks against Kurt Okraku’s third term bid

Vincent Assafuah is a Member of Parliament for Old Tafo Constituency Vincent Assafuah is a Member of Parliament for Old Tafo Constituency

Member of the Parliament Select Committee on Sports and Recreation, Vincent Ekow Assafuah has said that he won’t support Ghana Football Association (GFA) president, Kurt Okraku to seek another term in office.

He will be seeking a third term pending a Congress decision after the proposal for an extended term limit was approved by FIFA.

Reacting to this new development in Ghana football, the Member of Parliament for the Old Tafo Constituency in the Ashanti Region said Kurt Okraku should be stopped from seeking a third term bid in order to preserve institutional integrity.

“The statutes exist to protect the Association from excessive concentration of power and to preserve institutional integrity.

“To disregard this provision, or seek its amendment to favour the ambitions of any individual, would contradict the foundational principles upon which the restructured GFA was built,” he said as quoted by Joy Sports.

He added that Ghana football currently needs a leader who brings transformation and not the one who is chasing personal ambitions.

“The laws that brought Mr Okraku to power cannot be ignored simply because they now stand in the way of his ambition.

“What Ghanaian football needs now is a leadership transition grounded in merit, fairness, and respect for its own legal frameworks — not one manufactured through manipulation or quiet constitutional change,” he said.

The proposal for Kurt Okraku’s third term bid as GFA president will either be accepted or voted against at the upcoming Ordinary Congress on August 12, 2025.

Ghanaian star Shatta Wale’s luxury car surrendered over alleged link to US crime

Shatta Wale is one of Ghana's best-known stars Shatta Wale is one of Ghana’s best-known stars

Ghanaian authorities have taken possession of a luxury car allegedly linked to proceeds of crime from popular musician Charles Nii Armah, better known as Shatta Wale, following a request from the US.

The 2019 Lamborghini Urus is allegedly tied to the criminal enterprise of Ghanaian Nana Kwabena Amuah, who is serving a seven-year jail term in the US for fraud.

Wale denies knowledge or connection with the jailed Ghanaian, saying he is a “third-party owner” of the car. “I don’t know who shipped [it] to the country,” he said.

Shatta Wale is one of Ghana’s best-known stars and collaborated with Beyoncé on the song Already which featured on her 2019 Lion King album.

Wale took to social media to criticise the authorities over the recovery of the bright yellow Lamborghini, questioning why officers stormed his home with guns.

“Bringing guns to my house was uncalled for,” the dancehall artist wrote on his social media page, accusing the agency’s chief executive of humiliating him.

Wale said he had bought the car for $150,000 ($113,000) and that he had presented supporting documents to the officers.

The Lamborghini is expected to be returned to the US “as part of [Amuah’s] $4.7m restitution”, Eoco said, adding that the FBI and the US Justice Department intended to formally ask for mutual legal assistance for its return.

The agency said the car had been retrieved in a civil manner without any incident.

“It is a standard safety protocol for officers of the surveillance and asset recovery unit to carry weapons whilst on operation for their safety,” Eoco said in a statement.

Wale was later allowed to personally surrender the car, which is now in Eoco’s custody.

US court records indicate that Amuah and his co-conspirators had impersonated vendors to defraud nearly 70 public and private organisations across the country.

They tricked entities into wiring money into bank accounts controlled by the group through shell companies.

In 2023, Amuah was sentenced to 86 months in prison and the car was reportedly one of the items flagged as part of restitution to victims.

Timeless Ankara Kaba and Slit Styles Every Lady Should Own

0

The Ankara kaba and slit is a cherished traditional outfit that continues to evolve with modern fashion influences. Known for its vibrant colors, bold patterns, and cultural richness, this style remains a go-to option for many African women, especially for church services, weddings, and special events.

Traditionally, the kaba is a loose-fitting blouse paired with a long, often fitted slit skirt. However, today’s designers are putting a contemporary spin on the classic look. Off-shoulder, peplum, bell sleeves, and even crop top versions of the kaba have become increasingly popular. These updates give the outfit a more stylish and youthful appearance while still maintaining its cultural significance.

For the slit, modern women now prefer high-slit cuts, pencil styles, or flared designs that allow for comfort and easy movement. Some even opt for front or side slits that add a bit of elegance and flair to their overall look. When stitched to perfection, the kaba and slit can flatter all body types, enhancing a woman’s natural shape without compromising modesty.

Accessorizing the kaba and slit is also key to completing the outfit. Pair it with a matching Ankara headwrap (duku), bold jewelry, and a stylish handbag. For footwear, heels or beaded sandals can complement the look depending on the occasion.

What makes the Ankara kaba and slit stand out is its versatility. It can be worn to church, funerals, naming ceremonies, traditional engagements, or even fashion events. It’s a style that reflects pride in heritage, elegance, and a love for fashion all in one.

Every lady should have at least one well-tailored Ankara kaba and slit in her wardrobe—because it’s not just an outfit, it’s a cultural statement.

Fiifi Boafo, a former Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), has stressed the need for holistic education of Ghanaian children.

He said the education of the Ghanaian child should not only focus on the passing of examinations, but one that awakens curiosity, foster resilience, and promote values that bind the people as a society.

He also called for an investment in educational institutions to help create an ecosystem that nurtures talent and encourages young minds to dream big.

This, he said, would also create opportunities for children to explore, particularly in co-curricular and practical activities.

Fiifi Boafo said this at the fifth graduation and prize giving day of Starhill International School in Tarkwa, Western Region.

Mr. Boafo, a resident of Tarkwa, noted that the area could boast of vibrant businesses and substantial purchasing power, making it an ideal place for cultivating a future generation poised for success.

He stated that children deserve spaces where they can learn not only academics but also essential life skills, empathy for one another, and the importance of giving back to the community.

“They must be able to grasp the significance of being responsible citizens, and schools like Starhill International, are key in providing such education,” he pointed out.

According to him, for the past five years, he has witnessed the school’s dedication to excellence, including its academic achievements, the all-around development of each child, and the encouragement of creativity and critical thinking among the students.

“These attributes are invaluable in equipping the children for the realities of the world they will traverse,” he added.

Mr. Boafo also encouraged the administration, teachers, and parents of Starhill to continue striving for excellence. He indicated that, their unwavering commitment to the development of the children will address the challenges of tomorrow.

The Director of the School, Nana Kwame Yeboah, called for the support of stakeholders in making Starhill the very best in Takrwa and the country as a whole.

Mr. Yeboah indicated that, he will continue to strive to help the school achieve its set objectives, as he has demonstrated over the past years.

Govt inaugurates IMC to revive Komenda Sugar Factory

0

The Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has inaugurated a committee to lead the operationalisation of the Komenda Sugar Factory.

The factory, constructed more than 10 years ago, has remained dormant for the better part of its life.

The interim management committee (IMC), chaired by Kwame Owusu Sekyere, a lawyer, also has Douglas Mensah, an engineer; John Doku, Lt Col George Afful (retd), and Ransford Vanni Amoah as members.

The six-point Terms of Reference given to the IMC comprise conducting a technical assessment of the factory’s assets, reviewing its financial and business viability, evaluating the sugarcane raw material supply chain, identifying a credible strategic partner, reviewing the ministry’s operational roadmap, and proposing a transition plan towards full operations.

The committee is expected to submit its preliminary findings and recommendations to the ministry within eight weeks.

The inauguration, held in Accra last Monday, marks a renewed national effort to restore the factory to full functionality and economic relevance.

Government officials said it signalled a renewed determination to breathe life into one of Ghana’s key industrial initiatives and transform it into a sustainable source of employment and import substitution.

Inauguration, history

Inaugurating the committee, Mrs Ofosu-Adjare emphasised the significance of the factory as a “prized national asset” initiated under the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.

She said it had been left to deteriorate due to a host of operational and supply chain challenges.

The factory dates back to 2013, when the government at the time contracted Seftech India Pvt to construct a sulphurless sugar plant on a turnkey basis.

Designed to produce 125 tonnes of sugar daily, with plans to expand into ethanol production and power generation, the project initially cost $36.25 million, funded through a loan from India EXIM Bank and a grant from EDAIF, now Ghana EXIM Bank.

Mrs Ofosu-Adjare said in spite of subsequent efforts, including the engagement of Park Agrotech as a strategic investor in 2020 and the involvement of West Africa Agro-Tech Company Limited (WAATCO) under the 1D1F initiative, the factory had not been able to achieve sustainable operations.

“In spite of these interventions, several attempts to operationalise the factory have not been successful,” the minister said.

To break this cycle, she said the government had constituted the high-level IMC to diagnose and address the root issues hindering the factory’s viability.

National significance

Mrs Ofosu-Adjare underscored the broader national significance of the project.

“The Komenda Sugar Factory holds the potential to create enormous jobs in the catchment area, and cutting down on the volume of sugar imports into the country,” she said.

She added that the ministry was committed to supporting the IMC with the resources required to fulfil its mandate effectively.

The chairman of the IMC expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama and the Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry for entrusting the committee with the task of reviewing and reviving the factory.

“We are honoured by the confidence reposed in us and pledge to diligently work on the terms of reference and deliver within the timelines assigned to us,” Mr Owusu Sekyere said.

Background

The Komenda Sugar Factory was originally established in 1964 by Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, but later collapsed.

The government secured a $35-million Export-Import (EXIM) Bank, India loan to re-establish the factory.

An additional $24 million facility was set aside to support out-grower farmers.

The factory was commissioned on May 30, 2016, by President John Dramani Mahama to produce sugar, but it became stillborn due to a multiplicity of factors that were described as “technical and operational challenges”.

The factory, which was expected to employ 7,300 people along the value chain in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem municipality, has not been operational since then.

While addressing a durbar of the chiefs and the people of Komenda in the Central Region on September 14, 2018, then President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, gave an assurance that the government was in the process of getting a strategic investor to revive the factory.

On April 5, 2019, a former Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen, also assured Parliament that a strategic investor would be named by the end of that month to acquire the assets of the factory and help to operationalise it.

Following mounting pressure from the chiefs, youth groups and the people of Komenda for the revival of the factory, the government announced on November 26, 2019, that Park Agrotech Ghana Limited, a Ghanaian-Indian company, had been selected as the strategic investor to revamp the factory.

It was explained that Park Agrotech emerged as the successful bidder after a rigorous selection process conducted by the accounting and advisory firm, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).

The Ghana-based company, a subsidiary of the Skylark Group of Companies of India, one of the largest integrated farming businesses in India, was expected to inject $28 million into the factory between 2020 and 2023.

The company was expected to invest $11 million of the amount into sugarcane cultivation, $6 million to upgrade plant and machinery and $11 million as working capital to bring the ailing factory back on its feet.

The STM Project Limited, a company renowned for sugarcane development and sugar plant modernisation, expansion and rehabilitation for more than 200 sugar factories in India and other parts of the world, was supposed to serve as the technical partner, with technical support from the University of Cape Coast.

However, when the Daily Graphic followed up on the progress of work in March 2020, it emerged that no contract was signed between the government and the company.
