Kwabena Agyepong picks up nomination form

0

Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyepong, has officially begun his bid to contest the party’s 2026 presidential primaries, as his team picked up nomination forms on his behalf at the party’s headquarters.

The delegation was led by former Chairman of the National Labour Commission and former Member of Parliament for Kade, Ofosu Asamoah, who described Agyepong as the most qualified individual to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.

Speaking shortly before making payment for the nomination forms on Wednesday, August 6, Asamoah said:

“Our simple task this afternoon is to purchase the nomination forms to contest for the flagbearership of the party and possibly become the leading candidate to fight for the presidency in the upcoming election. Going into the 2028 election, we need a strong leader and not just a flagbearer to bring victory to the party.”

The move comes after the NPP officially scheduled Saturday, January 31, 2026, as the date for its presidential primary to elect a flagbearer ahead of the 2028 national elections.

This timeline was confirmed by NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua following a meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. The decision was later endorsed by the National Council.

AFLIGA launches inaugural thought leadership series on African Female Leadership

0

The Africa Future Leaders Institute of Global Affairs (AFLIGA) is set to host the inaugural edition of its Thought Leadership Series on Wednesday, August 7, 2025, at its International Secretariat in Accra.

Themed “Rethinking African Female Leadership Development: Lessons from Indigenous African Leadership Constructed Practices”, the event seeks to spark a continental dialogue on reclaiming and reimagining traditional African leadership models to inform modern leadership development—particularly for women.
Drawing from pre-colonial African systems where women played prominent roles in political and spiritual leadership, the event will critically examine how such indigenous models can inspire culturally authentic, gender-inclusive leadership frameworks today.

Reviving African Leadership traditions
Pre-colonial African societies once boasted diverse leadership systems—ranging from centralised kingdoms to decentralised chiefdoms—many of which integrated women into governance structures. In the Ashanti Empire, for instance, queen mothers not only co-ruled with kings but also selected successors to the throne. Similar examples of female regents and priestesses existed across Nigeria and other parts of the continent.

“Feminine leadership was once integral to African political and spiritual life. Our challenge today is to examine how those indigenous systems can be revitalised and adapted for contemporary governance,” said an AFLIGA spokesperson.
The event comes at a time when women’s representation in African leadership remains disproportionately low. According to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU, 2025), women hold only 14.5 per cent of parliamentary seats in Ghana—a figure that has remained largely stagnant for a decade. In Kenya, women occupy 23.3 per cent of the National Assembly, still below the one-third constitutional gender quota.

While progress has been made in tertiary education—with South Africa’s 2022 Gender Parity Index indicating a 141:100 female-to-male ratio in enrollment—the gains have not translated into equal leadership roles in politics and corporate governance. Recent data from Boardroom Africa shows that in 2024, women held only 24 per cent of board seats in listed companies in Ghana, a slight decline from the previous year.

Objectives and format
The Thought Leadership Series aims to provide a platform for rethinking leadership development by engaging scholars, traditional leaders, civil society actors, and policymakers in critical reflection.
Key objectives include:
•    Reframing dominant leadership narratives through a gender lens.
•    Showcasing traditional female leadership roles such as queen mothers and spiritual leaders.
•    Developing practical, culturally grounded leadership frameworks for use in institutions, training, and mentorship programmes.
•    Encouraging cross-sector collaboration to influence policy and institutional reform.
The event will feature:
•    A keynote address by a distinguished scholar in indigenous knowledge and leadership.
•    A panel discussion with academics, practitioners, a traditional leader, and a gender policy expert.
•    An interactive dialogue with a curated audience of youth leaders, policymakers, academics, and media professionals.
•    Post-event documentation and dissemination through AFLIGA’s platforms.

Restoring African Agency in leadership development
According to AFLIGA, modern leadership development has been dominated by Eurocentric, hierarchical models that often conflict with Africa’s collectivist cultures. These models tend to marginalise women and ignore community-based leadership traditions rooted in moral authority, relational stewardship, and participatory governance.

“The Ubuntu ethos—grounded in shared responsibility and reconciliation—offers powerful tools for inclusive leadership. It’s time we critically engage and adapt these indigenous systems to today’s realities,” AFLIGA noted.
The initiative seeks to bridge historical insight and modern needs, catalysing a shift from imported leadership paradigms to Afrocentric models that reflect Africa’s cultural, political, and social contexts.

Anticipated outcomes
The inaugural edition is expected to:
•    Raise awareness of indigenous African leadership values that empowered women.
•    Provide critical insights into applying African philosophies such as Ubuntu to leadership training.
•    Document practical case studies and propose new frameworks for gender-responsive leadership.
•    Influence continental policy dialogue through a position paper on culturally grounded leadership development.

About AFLIGA and the Thought Leadership Series
AFLIGA is a pan-African think tank focused on women and youth empowerment. The Thought Leadership Series is a multidisciplinary platform designed to provoke critical thinking and shape strategic responses to Africa’s most pressing leadership and development challenges.

Each edition addresses core themes such as leadership and governance, gender equity, cultural identity, peace and security, and economic transformation. Future sessions will explore topics including youth innovation, continental trade, and indigenous knowledge systems.

By promoting inclusive, resilient, and culturally rooted leadership approaches, AFLIGA aims to contribute to the emergence of a new generation of ethical and competent African leaders.

Mensa Otabil prays for families of helicopter crash victims

0

Renowned Ghanaian pastor and founder of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Pastor Mensa Otabil, has offered heartfelt prayers for the families of the eight individuals who died in Wednesday’s tragic military helicopter crash.

During Day Three of the 2025 Greater Works Conference held in Accra on Wednesday, August 6, Pastor Otabil led thousands of worshippers in a moment of intercession, asking God to comfort the bereaved.

“Father, we thank you, for you are the God of all comfort. When our hearts are overwhelmed, and we don’t know where to turn, you are the rock that is higher than us, we raise the family that have lost so much to you lord and we pray that your holy spirit who is the only comforter wealthy of comforting, will comfort them,” he prayed, asking the Holy Spirit to enter homes shattered by grief and breathe life into families devastated by the loss.

The tragic helicopter crash occurred in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6, and has plunged the nation into mourning.

Among those confirmed dead are Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and Minister for Environment Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.

Also killed in the crash were Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate; and Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Three crew members aboard the Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah also lost their lives.

According to initial reports, the high-ranking officials were en route to Obuasi when the aircraft went off radar, prompting an emergency response and search operation that led to the recovery of the wreckage and bodies.

The government has since directed that national flags be flown at half-mast, as tributes continue to pour in from across Ghana and beyond.

Rev. Father Dogli Memorial Technical Inst. wins STEM plastic waste competition

By Edward Acquah

Accra, Aug. 6, GNA – The Reverend Father Dogli Memorial Technical Institute in the Oti Region has been adjudged the best performing school at the southern sector STEM Plastic Waste Competition for Catholic Senior High Schools in Ghana.

The St. Gregory Senior High School emerged second at a competitive contest in Accra, where the students pitched innovative products made from plastic waste and ideas to address the challenges posed by plastic waste.

The other competing schools were St. Catherine Catholic Girls Senior High School, St. Michael Senior High School, and St. Margaret Mary Senior High Technical School.

Organised by the Catholic Education Unit, the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) and other partners, the competition created a platform for the students to develop innovative projects to tackle the plastic waste menace.

Among the products presented were plastic greenhouse, bags, baskets, raincoat, flower vase, bricks, umbrella, and materials for interior and exterior decoration.

Dr Joseph Agyapong Darmoe, Programmes Director, KAS, described the innovations as “surprising” and praised their desire to find solution to the plastic waste challenge.

He said the rate at which plastic waste was polluting the ocean was “scary” and challenged the youth to explore innovative ways and create products to help address the issue sustainably.

“We produce an average of 840,000 metric tonnes of plastic waste annually. This is more than the cocoa we produce and that is scary,” he said.

Mr Darmoe touched on the opportunity the contest created to help transform society and expressed confidence that it would ignite interest in finding solution to societal problems.

Mr Francis Batadjan, the General Manager of Catholic Schools, Ghana, said the contest was not just a competition but a “wake up call” to improve the management of plastic waste in the country.

He encouraged the students to explore more innovative ideas and contribute to managing the menace in their communities.

Madam Berthy Buah, Regional STEM Coordinator, Ghana Education Service, said the purpose of STEM education was to empower students to be observant and sensitive to the environment and find solutions to problems.

She said the introduction of STEM in environmental management would engender a sense of ownership among students in protecting the environment.

Plastic waste management is a major challenge in Ghana. Plastics are indiscriminately disposed into drains and water bodies, resulting in perennial floods across the country.

According to the Ghana Plastic Waste Management Policy Document, some 120 companies manufacture over 52,000 tonnes of various plastics and related products per year.

According to the latest report published by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), 88 per cent of marine species were affected by severe contamination of plastic in the ocean.

The burning of plastics, which is a wide-spread activity in Ghana, also releases toxic substances into the atmosphere and contributes to climate change.

And in 2012 a cargo plane overran the runway in Accra and crashed into a bus full of passengers, killing at least 10 people.

“It is with a heart heavy with grief and disbelief that I mourn the tragic passing of my dear uncle and friend, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, who lost his life today in the devastating helicopter crash that also claimed the lives of seven other patriotic citizens of our Republic.

Alhaji Muniru was more than just family to me. He was a confidant, a guide, and a steadfast pillar of support. Over the course of his life, he served our country with humility and distinction, as the former Minister for the Northern Region, Upper East Region, Minister for Agriculture, and most recently, as the Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator.

Just two weeks ago, he paid me a visit at my office, accompanied by his son. With characteristic modesty, he shared the news of his most recent appointment. “You are the first person I’m telling,” he said with a warm smile, his eyes lighting up with the joy of a new challenge. We spent nearly two hours together that day, talking about everything from governance and national development to family and legacy. His son, a fine young man of college age, full of promise and potential, also spoke with me at length during that visit. We discussed his future and his aspirations.

I am totally devastated by the loss of two fine gentlemen I was proud to call friends and brothers: Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, and Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment. Their passing has left a void that cannot easily be filled.

Dr. Samuel Sarpong – Vice Chairman, NDC, with whom I had the privilege of working during my time as a private legal practitioner, will also be dearly missed.

We mourn as well the loss of Mr. Samuel Aboagye – Former Parliamentary Candidate and Deputy Director-General, NADMO; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flying Officer Amaning Twum Ampadu; Sergeant Ernest Addo.

These were not only distinguished citizens but also Ministers of State, senior public servants, military officers, and committed professionals who served our nation with honour and dedication. Their passing is a profound loss to Ghana.

To their families, colleagues, and all who mourn them, I extend my deepest condolences. We grieve with you, and we honour their memory.

May the souls of all who perished in this tragic accident, rest in perfect peace. And may all those they left behind find strength and comfort in this difficult time.

Meanwhile, authorities have cleared the remains of the victims from the crash site for forensic examination and identification as investigations into the cause of the incident continue.”

The confirmed list of casualties includes:

Dr. Edward Omane Boamah – Minister for Defence

Dr. Alhaji Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed – Member of Parliament for Tamale Central and Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation

Dr. Samuel Sarpong – Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress

Samuel Aboagye – Former Parliamentary Candidate

Sergeant Leader -Peter Bafemi Anala

Flying Officer -Manin Twum-Ampadu

Sergeant -Ernest Addo Mensah

The list was confirmed by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, who described the incident as a national tragedy.

The victims included senior members of the Party and personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces who were on official national duty at the time of the incident.

In a statement issued on August 6, the NDC described the crash as a “devastating moment” for both the Party and the nation, mourning the loss of “loyal comrades” and “exemplary patriots” who served Ghana with “honour, courage, and unwavering dedication.”

On behalf of its leadership, members, and grassroots supporters, the NDC extended its “deepest and most heartfelt condolences” to the bereaved families, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the people of Ghana.

TV stations must be oriented before given license to operate – Socrate Safo

Ghanaian director and filmmaker, Socrate Safo, has disclosed that orientation must be rendered to people before they are offered TV license.

Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM on August 5, 2025, Socrate Safo mentioned that the challenges some producers are facing today is based on ignorance.

“You must license a TV station to show movies and before the license is given, you give them orientation. Orientation is very important. All the chaos we see today is out of ignorance.

“The challenges we are facing today which we creating years ago is based on the licensing bate that we are not enforcing” he said.

He cited an example where a Ghanaian filmmaker made claims that a TV station showed her newly produced movie on their channel saying, “When we do the licensing, the next thing we have to do is channel of distribution. As an industry, let’s sit and come up with a channel distribution. Let’s go through all we’ve done.”

Old video of Prophet Roja’s plane crash prophecy resurfaces after death of Omane Boamah, others

0

Prophet Samuel Henry has become known for making predictions about high-profile personalities Prophet Samuel Henry has become known for making predictions about high-profile personalities

An old video of Ghanaian preacher, Samuel Henry, also referred to as Prophet Roja, has resurfaced online after the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the life of the Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, along with others on August 6, 2025.

In the video, Prophet Roja was seen prophesing in an interview on Angel TV.

He said that earlier in 2025, God revealed a vision to him about a domestic flight crash that could happen in Ghana.

According to the preacher, the vision showed a plane traveling from Accra to Kumasi that would crash shortly after takeoff on July 29, 2025.

He described the prophecy as conditional, meaning the crash could be prevented if people prayed to God.

Prophet Roja explained that in the vision, the plane crash would be severe, and fewer than 20 people would survive. Because of this, he called on Christians in Ghana to pray to avert the disaster.

He also advised that, if possible, anyone who does not urgently need to travel by air on that date should postpone their trip.

“God is speaking to me right now, on the 29th of July, 2025. Please record this. Let all Christians in Ghana pray. This is a conditional prophecy. What I am seeing is that there is going to be a plane crash. I see a plane mid-air, and then it suddenly crashes. When it crashes, the number of survivors is up to 25. It is traveling from Accra to Kumasi,” he said in the video.

Prophet Roja stressed again that this was not a fixed prophecy but a warning that could be prevented if the nation prayed.

This is not the first time his prophecies have attracted attention. Earlier in 2025, he made headlines when a prophecy he gave in January came true.

At that time, he predicted the death of Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, the Mamponghene (traditional ruler).

The prophecy gained attention after it was officially confirmed on April 28 that the Mamponghene had passed away.

Global Auto Theft Rings Target Ghana’s Luxury Car Market, CID Warns

0

Shatta Wale’s Lamborghini
Shatta Wale’s Lamborghini

Ghana’s booming luxury vehicle market is facing exploitation by international theft syndicates, authorities reveal, following the high-profile seizure of dancehall artist Shatta Wale’s Lamborghini Urus.

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and U.S. investigators confirmed the $150,000 SUV was part of a smuggled batch tied to a convicted Ghanaian fraudster in America, spotlighting systemic vulnerabilities in auto import controls.

According to Criminal Investigations Department (CID) data, 43 stolen premium vehicles were intercepted in Ghana during the first half of 2025. CID Director-General COP Lydia Yaako Donkor described sophisticated laundering tactics: “Elaborate networks use false registrations, cloned VINs, and forged shipping documents. This is now a critical consumer protection issue.”

Analysts attribute Ghana’s attractiveness to thieves to surging demand for luxury models and lax verification in private sales.

Vehicles often stolen from North American or European rental fleets during active leases—are sold below market value to unsuspecting buyers. “Criminals bank on buyers prioritizing price over due diligence,” an anonymous auto dealer noted.

Industry stakeholders are advocating for a centralized verification system, including:

Mandatory international database cross-checks

Enhanced due diligence for high-value imports

ARISE Integrated Industrial Platforms (ARISE IIP), Africa’s leading industrial zone developer, has committed significant resources to advance Ghana’s 24-hour economy agenda following high-level talks in Benin.

During a visit to ARISE’s Glo-Djigbé Industrial Zone (GDIZ) on August 5, Ghana’s delegation led by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah and including Trade Minister Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare explored partnerships to replicate Benin’s integrated industrial model.

ARISE IIP Managing Director Létondji Beheton emphasized alignment with Ghana’s goals: “Our zones operate 24/7, and we’ll deploy skills and resources for Ghana’s economic survival.” The GDIZ, hosting 36 investors and 20,000 jobs, aims for 300,000 positions by 2030. Ghana’s planned light industrial parks will prioritize agro-processing, textiles, and packaging, targeting raw material value-addition and export competitiveness within two years.

Trade Minister Ofosu-Adjare expressed strong enthusiasm: “We’ll double Benin’s achievements to make Ghana Africa’s industrial hub.” The collaboration leverages ARISE’s footprint across five African nations and backing from major financiers like Africa Finance Corporation. This partnership accelerates President Mahama’s vision for industrial transformation through public-private synergy.

Identifying when someone is going through a difficult phase can be challenging, as they may not always recognize it themselves.

Often, it is the people around them who notice changes in behaviour or appearance.

To identify these changes, it is important to look out for things that are out of the ordinary for such a person.

For example, a normally outgoing person who becomes quiet or withdrawn may be struggling with emotional issues.

Also, it is said that changes in appearance, such as shaving one’s hair could also be indicative of underlying emotional trauma.

This is according to Doctor Kwasi Antwi Koranteng who also said in some cases, people may use physical pain as a way to cope with emotional pain.

According to Dr Koranteng, self-harming acts such as tattoos and piercings can be a cry for help.

He said by paying attention to these changes and being aware of the signs, one can offer support and help to those who may be struggling.

According to Dr. Koranteng, It is crucial to approach these situations with empathy and understanding, rather than judgment or indifference.

A Stylish Confidence Boost for Curvy Women

0

When it comes to combining confidence, comfort, and elegance in fashion, crepe fabric short gowns are a winning choice — especially for curvy or chubby ladies seeking flattering outfits that don’t sacrifice style for ease. With its soft texture, subtle stretch, and fluid drape, crepe material is well-loved for its ability to hug the body in the right places while allowing movement and breathability.

“Fashion should be a form of escapism, and not a form of imprisonment.” – Alexander McQueen

This quote holds special meaning for anyone who’s ever struggled to find clothes that both look good and feel great. With crepe short gowns, curvy women don’t have to compromise — these gowns offer both freedom and flair.

1. The A-Line Advantage

The A-line crepe gown is a timeless silhouette that suits a range of body shapes. For fuller figures, it flatters by gently flaring from the waist, creating a balanced look that draws attention to the slimmest part of the body. Unlike stiffer fabrics, crepe doesn’t cling awkwardly — it drapes smoothly, giving a polished, graceful effect. Add ruffled hems or a belted waist for a touch of personality.

2. Off-Shoulder Charm

Want to highlight your neckline while keeping things classy? Off-shoulder crepe gowns are a stylish solution. They frame the shoulders beautifully, elongating the upper body and adding a feminine flair. Whether you’re attending brunch or a cocktail party, this design paired with the softness of crepe fabric offers both all-day comfort and eye-catching appeal.

3. Ruching for a Flattering Fit

Ruching is a stylist’s secret weapon for defining curves. A ruched crepe short gown subtly gathers at the waist or sides, creating texture while drawing the eye to your natural shape. The result? A slimming effect without tightness or discomfort. It’s a great option for both everyday wear and special evenings.

4. Flared and Bell Sleeves for Drama

Sleeve details can transform a simple dress into something spectacular. Flared or bell sleeves in crepe fabric add an element of drama and elegance, while still keeping the outfit light and breathable. This style works particularly well when paired with a more fitted bodice to ensure balance.

5. Pleats That Move With You

Pleats can be both playful and sophisticated. A pleated crepe gown glides over the body, offering structure without being stiff. Perfect for women who love comfort but still want something stylish and chic. It’s a smart, versatile design that fits well in both formal and casual settings.

6. The Power of a V-Neckline

A V-neckline is universally flattering and especially ideal for curvier women. It draws the eye upward and elongates the neck, which can visually slim the upper body. Paired with a well-tailored crepe dress, a V-neck brings a subtle touch of elegance. Complete the look with a delicate pendant or choker.

Final Thoughts: Confidence Starts with Comfort

Crepe short gowns prove that style and comfort can go hand in hand. Whether you love a flowy A-line, a chic off-shoulder cut, or a dress with ruching or pleats, there’s a crepe design that will make you feel confident and beautiful. The fabric’s softness and versatility make it a must-have in any wardrobe — especially for curvy women who want to embrace their shape without compromise.

UN Touts Circular Economy as Solution to Ghana’s Youth Job Crisis

0

Eric Gyenin
Eric Gyenin

Ghana’s transition to a circular economy could dramatically curb youth unemployment while advancing sustainability, according to the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO).

Eric Gyenin, UNIDO’s Country Coordinator, positioned the Ghana Circular Economy Centre (GCEC) Project as pivotal to this shift, targeting agriculture, textiles, and plastics sectors.

The five-year GCEC initiative will establish a physical hub anchored by five pillars: a dedicated circular economy center, skills training for youth and women, technical support for circular businesses, financing access, and networking platforms. “This transcends environmental management; it’s economic opportunity,” Gyenin stated. By reintegrating waste into production cycles, the model promises job creation across value chains and supports inclusive, low-carbon industrialization.

With youth unemployment exceeding 20%, the project aligns with Ghana’s development needs. Gyenin linked it to the government’s 24-Hour Economy policy, arguing continuous production demands resource efficiency and innovation inherent to circular systems. “Recycling and reuse enable non-stop economic activity,” he noted, urging private-sector engagement.

The GCEC aims to embed circular practices into national planning, unlock green investment, and generate sustainable jobs. Gyenin called for broader stakeholder awareness, framing the shift as an “economic revolution” with community upliftment potential.

Ban on betting, alcohol promotion affected the comedy industry

OB Amponsah is a popular stand-up Ghanaian OB Amponsah is a popular stand-up Ghanaian

Popular Ghanaian stand-up comedian OB Amponsah had lamented how the ban on celebrities from the promotion of betting and alcohol products by the Food and Drugs Authority has negatively affected the entertainment industry.

Speaking on GhanaWeb’s X Spaces, he argued that the ban, which is said to safeguard children from harmful influence, is inadvertently crippling the country’s once-thriving entertainment sector.

According to OB Amponsah, betting and alcohol companies once played a central role in financing creative events, offering daily sponsorships that energised the industry.

“Day and night, Ghanaians are consuming their product; they have the cash to give out. you don’t ban celebrities from enjoying some of these.

“When the entertainment space was really thriving years back, these companies were major sponsors. But once these bans started, they affected the entertainment industry,” he stated.

According to him, the ban did not only cut off essential funding but also restrict celebrities’ livelihood opportunities by denying them sponsorship deals.

OB Amponsah also criticised the FDA’s rationale that the ban protects children, stating that proper enforcement is needed, not a ban.

“It is about enforcement; you cannot ban celebrities from being sponsored by alcohol brands when you are not enforcing it,” he said.

He cited countries like the UK, where alcohol purchases and betting sign-ups require identity verification.

“In countries like the UK, you cannot log into a betting site without an ID, you cannot buy alcohol without an ID,” he noted.

About the ban

Ghana’s Food and Drugs Authority enacted the ban in 2015, forbidding celebrities from endorsing alcoholic beverages in advertisements or sponsorship deals.

The policy, enshrined under its Guideline 3.2.10, has been justified as a measure to shield minors from celebrity-influenced alcohol marketing.

In 2023, music executive Mark Darlington Osae contested the constitutionality of the ban, labelling it as discriminatory and harmful to creative professionals. In June 2024, the Supreme Court upheld FDA’s decision.

Elegant Kaftan Styles Mothers Can Wear To Look Classy

0

Kaftans have remained a timeless favorite in women’s fashion, particularly for mothers who prioritize both style and comfort. These flowing garments offer an elegant yet relaxed look, making them perfect for a variety of occasions — from religious events and weddings to family outings and casual get-togethers. Their versatility and grace make them an essential piece in every stylish mother’s wardrobe.

What sets kaftans apart is their ability to combine sophistication with ease. Fabrics like silk, satin, chiffon, and high-quality Ankara add a luxurious touch to the overall appearance. For a truly polished look, choose kaftans adorned with embellishments such as beadwork, embroidery, sequins, or rhinestones — especially around the neckline, cuffs, or hem. These details elevate a simple kaftan into a regal ensemble.

Color choice also plays a key role. Earthy tones like beige, olive, and champagne exude calm sophistication, while bolder shades like emerald, burgundy, and sapphire can make a powerful style statement. Cultural patterns or symbolic prints can also add a layer of meaning and personal identity to the outfit.

Modern mothers can style their kaftans with elegant accessories — think chandelier earrings, structured handbags, and stylish flat sandals or block heels. Belted styles are especially trendy, as they define the waistline while maintaining comfort. A sleek ponytail or low bun completes the look effortlessly.

Kaftans are not just fashionable — they’re also practical. Their loose, breathable design makes them suitable for all body types, especially for women who are constantly on the move.

In a fashion world full of fleeting trends, the kaftan stands out as a timeless, adaptable, and flattering piece. With the right styling, every mother can step out in confidence, radiating poise and charm in this classic ensemble.

Kwaku Manu (R) says God asked him to give Adwoa Smart (L) a plot of land Kwaku Manu (R) says God asked him to give Adwoa Smart (L) a plot of land

Kumawood actor, Kwaku Manu, has explained his reason for gifting veteran actress Adwoa Smart a plot of land.

In a video shared on social media on August 6, 2025, Kwaku Manu said he gifted the actress a land out of goodwill and also for her contribution to the movie industry.

He explained that, prior to this development, Adwoa Smart had earlier informed him about a land and the fact that she needed assistance with putting up a building on it.

According to Kwaku Manu, he wasn’t satisfied with the location of the actress’ land, hence prompting his decision to gift her a plot of land.

“Before we started the interview, she informed me about her land in Dodowa. We went to have a look at it. When I got there, the land was in a marshy area. And it wouldn’t be appropriate for me to plead with Ghanaians to support her to build at that place.

“I told her I had a land in Amasaman satellite and if she is interested. I would gift it to her. When we got there, she was happy with the location,” he said.

The actor added that he would like to assist the actress by building a two-bedroom house on the land.

“God is the one who asked me to gift her the land. I didn’t have it in mind to gift her the land. But based on what she said. That prompted me to do that.

“After the interview, I did a TikTok live asking Ghanaians to assist me so I can build a two-bedroom for her,” he added.

The crash, which occurred at Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region, claimed the lives of eight individuals, including key government officials.

“My cousin I will see no more. My heart is deeply troubled. Life, oh Life! Kofi, we made it together from home to Uni. We kept our bond from the 90s,” he wrote.

He recalled their time at the University of Ghana, where they maintained a close relationship despite Dr Omane Boamah residing at Okponglo while frequently visiting Dr Afriye at Commonwealth Hall.

“In med school at Korle Bu, the scores were settled when we were allocated one room, and we bonded in room B63. Politics has never separated us after school. Rita! My heart bleeds heavily for you and family… a life we live on earth… OMG! I am in pain! I am down… how do I control these tears,” he wrote.

Dr Afriye revealed that he learned of the tragedy while abroad, through a call from the chief editor of an opposition newspaper whom Dr Omane Boamah had previously assisted with medical treatment in the United States.

“Doc, have you heard the news? … Your brother had a crash,” the editor informed him, prompting Dr. Afriye to check GhanaWeb, where he confirmed the devastating news.

“OMG!! I can’t control my tears. I am deeply saddened… Kofi! Kofi! Kofi! Demrefa dui… awww! Lord have mercy!!” the Ranking Member wrote.

TCDA targets $16 billion revenue by 2028, seeks transformative development

Dr Andrews Osei Okrah is the Chief Executive Officer of TCDA Dr Andrews Osei Okrah is the Chief Executive Officer of TCDA

The Tree Crop Development Authority (TCDA) in a bold move to propel economic growth has set an ambitious target of generating $16 billion in revenue by 2028, focusing on six strategic tree crops that promise significant economic potential.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of TCDA, Dr Andrews Osei Okrah, an existing strategy on the potential of each crop’s revenue generation is $2 billion annually, therefore the 2028 target is achievable.

Dr Okrah indicated that the six crops represent a powerful engine for economic growth, rural development and export diversification.

“By 2028, we aim to generate significant exchange revenue of $16 billion. If we consider the potential of six key crops, we can project that with adequate investment today, we could achieve on average $2 billion annually from each crop. When we multiply that by six, we are looking at a total of $12 billion,” he said.

Speaking at the Center for Applied Research and Innovation in Supply Chain-Africa’s (CARISCA) supply chain forum and exhibition in Accra, the CEO mentioned that the future of Ghana’s tree crop supply chain landscape will not be complete without highlighting the central and the transformative role of the Tree Crop Development Authority.

He added that the strength of tree crop supply chains will determine how inclusive, competitive and sustainable the future will be.

“The ability to effectively finance the potential of Ghana’s tree crop sector depends on appreciating the supply chain landscape in full complexity. The tree crop value chain is not linear. It is a vibrant and multi stakeholder ecosystem with several interdependent roles.”

Established through a 2019 parliamentary act, the TCDA is responsible for developing and coordinating cashew, oil palm, rubber, coconut, mango, and shea. He noted that the Authority is more than a regulatory body but a strategic anchor in a new era in agricultural industrialisation.

The sector primarily relies on smallholder farmers managing less than two hectares of land, forming the backbone of a complex agricultural value chain that includes input suppliers, aggregators, processors, and exporters.

With all the steps being taken by the Authority to drive growth and development, Dr Okrah highlighted some key challenges within the sector which he calls for stakeholders within the value chain to contribute towards resolving those hurdles.

Key among the challenges facing the sector include extensive infrastructure deficits, limited access to financial resources, post-harvest losses, inadequate transportation and storage facilities, among others

Currently, the TCDA is collaborating with the World Bank on a development project aimed at increasing productivity in coconut, rubber, and cashew production. The authority is also working to streamline business licensing, promote investments, and facilitate private sector participation.

The TCDA emphasizes a comprehensive approach to agricultural development, calling on stakeholders to “think big” and consider large-scale investments similar to successful agricultural transformations in countries like Malaysia.

Keta residents react to recent report about surge in HIV cases

0

Residents in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region have expressed worry about the recent report by the Ghana Health Service about the recent report of surge in HIV/AIDS cases recorded in the Municipality with 27 new infections reported in 2024.

According to the data available to the Ghana News Agency, a total of 756 people were living with HIV in the Municipality with 185 males, 527 females, and 44 children affected.

Out of the total number of affected patients, 253 people were identified as not on any current treatment, which many described as a public health threat to the Municipality.

Madam Dora Kugbonu, the Public Health Promotion Officer at the Keta Municipal Health Directorate, revealed that HIV (Immunodeficiency Virus) was a viral infection that attacks the immune system of the human body.

“The primary cause of HIV/AIDS is the transmission of the virus through bodily fluids, such as blood, semen, vaginal fluids, and breast milk,” she said.

She said that if one is left untreated, HIV could progress to AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome), which could result in a life-threatening condition and could have severe physical, emotional, social consequences and death.

She explained that some effects of the virus were weak immune system which could increase risk of opportunistic infections, stigma and discrimination, emotional distress and mental health issues.

“The HIV is normally cause by having unprotected sex with an infected person, sharing needles or syringes with an infected person, mother-to-child transmission during pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding and blood transfusions from an infected donor and others”

Madam Kugbonu outline preventive methods which include practicing safe sex (using condoms) getting tested for HIV regularly, avoiding sharing needles or syringes, using pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) or post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) as needed, ensuring safe blood transfusions, among others.

She explained that HIV could affect anyone, regardless of age, sex, or background while certain groups such as young people (15-24 years old), Sex workers, men who have sex with men (gays), people who inject drugs, people living in areas with high HIV prevalence would be disproportionately affected.

Meanwhile, the recent surge in HIV cases in Keta Municipality has sparked concern among the public with many demanding for increased awareness and education on HIV prevention and treatment methods which were important needs for targeted interventions to address the epidemic, particularly among vulnerable populations.

Mr. Dela Simon Kwakuvi, a resident of Keta told the Ghana News Agency, that the HIV epidemic reported in Keta Municipality was a pressing public health concern that required a comprehensive response.

He appealed to health workers to create awareness for the public to understand the causes, effects, symptoms and modes of transmission to prevent new infections and as well as provide support to those living with HIV.

He said that it was essential to promote awareness, education, and access to HIV testing and treatment services to combat the epidemic to alleviate the fear and stigma among the public.
