Candlelight for Daddy Lumba put on hold Candlelight for Daddy Lumba put on hold

The candlelight vigil that was supposed to take place in Kumasi, Heros park, in honour of the late Ghanaian music legend, Daddy Lumba, has been put on hold indefinitely.

The vigil was originally scheduled for August 9, 2025.

The change in schedule was announced in an official statement released by the Creative Arts Agency on August 7, 2025.

The statement was signed by the Acting Executive Secretary of the Agency, Gideon Aryeequaye.

According to the Creative Arts Agency, the postponement is out of respect for the eight individuals who sadly lost their lives in a tragic military helicopter crash earlier in the week.

The Agency said it would not be appropriate to go ahead with the Kumasi vigil during a period of national grief.

This decision also follows the government’s declaration of three days of national mourning by President John Dramani Mahama.

The mourning period runs from August 7, to August 9, 2025. During this time, the country is expected to honour the memory of those who died in the accident.

The Kumasi vigil was to follow the successful candlelight ceremony held at the Independence Square in Accra on August 2, 2025.

The candlelight vigil in Accra saw in attendance fans, celebrities, and public figures coming together to celebrate the legacy of Daddy Lumba, who was regarded as one of Ghana’s greatest musicians.

Daddy Lumba, aged 60, passed away on July 26, 2025, after a short illness.

The Creative Arts Agency also shared their condolences to the families of the helicopter crash victims.

They shared their sympathy with the affected families and the entire country, acknowledging the pain the nation is going through at this time.

The Deputy Director of Elections of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rashid Tanko Computer, has said that the driver of the late NDC Vice Chairman, Samuel Sarpong, collapsed upon hearing the news of his boss’s passing.

According to him, the driver had taken the party’s Vice Chairman to the Air Force Base to board the helicopter, being the last time he saw him.

Tanko Computer further stated that following the collapse, believed to have been caused by the shocking nature of the news, the driver was quickly rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

“In fact, I’m told his driver collapsed because he drove him to the Air Force Base. He hadn’t even reached the office because of traffic when this news broke. So, as soon as he got down and they hit him with the story, he collapsed.

“They had to rush him to 37 Military Hospital because he couldn’t believe this. He drove the man to the Air Force Base, little did he know that was going to be the last thing he was going to do,” he said on Metro TV on Thursday, August 7, 2025.

The fatal crash occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, in the Ashanti Region as the officials were on their way to an event at Obuasi.

The investment price of the Bank of Ghana’s (BoG) gold coins has appreciated, a development attributed to the strengthening of the Ghana cedi against the US dollar.

The Central Bank introduced these gold coins as a strategic measure to discourage the hoarding of US dollars and absorb excess liquidity in the market, ultimately aiming to strengthen the cedi against major foreign currencies.

The owner of Young Apostles Football Club, Samuel Anim Addo, has revealed that he has not received an invitation to attend the 2025 Ghana Football Association (GFA) Congress scheduled for August 12, 2025.

According to Anim Addo, he sent an email to the GFA to enquire about his invitation latter because he was eager to attend the Congress.

However, the former GFA Executive Council Member disclosed that he received a feedback that he would not be able to join the personalities to vote in the decision-making process because of a technical error.

Speaking in an interview with Sporty FM on August 8, 2025, Anim Addo fumed about the decision, questioning the motive behind it.

“I sent an email to the GFA to ask whether I could appear at Congress to vote, and it bounced back saying the email was full. How can that be?” he questioned.

Ghanaians don’t have the power to stop Kurt Okraku’s third term, only Congress can – Eric Alagidede

Regarding the possibility of current GFA President, Kurt Okraku running for a third term, Anim Addo rejected the idea, suggesting that it might not augur well for Ghana football in the future.

“Anyone who thinks extending the GFA president’s term limit to three is a good thing does not love Ghana,” he added.

This comes after reports emerged that Kurt is likely to run for a third term after the GFA’s third term limit proposal was approved by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA).

South African court rules that Zambia can repatriate body of ex-president

Edgar Lungu passed away on June 5, 2025 Edgar Lungu passed away on June 5, 2025

A South African court has ruled that Zambia’s government can repatriate the body of former President Edgar Lungu and give him a state funeral, despite his family’s opposition.

The Pretoria high court ruled in favour of the Zambian state, which had previously applied to block the family’s plans to bury him privately in South Africa, where he died in June.

The state, at the time, argued that personal wishes should not override the greater public interest.

The dispute follows a long-standing feud between Lungu and his successor, President Hakainde Hichilema, with Lungu’s family saying he had indicated that Hichilema should not attend his funeral.

Handing down the ruling, judge Aubrey Ledwaba said the Zambian government was “entitled to repatriate the body of the late president” and ordered his family to “immediately surrender” it to authorities.

No order was made on the costs of the urgent application.

Six people have been killed after a light aircraft belonging to a medical charity crashed in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, according to a local official.

Charity Amref Flying Doctors said the Cessna plane took off from Wilson airport on Thursday afternoon and was en route to Hargeisa in Somalia when it crashed and burst into flames at a residential building in Nairobi’s Githurai area.

Kiambu County Commissioner Henry Wafula said four people on the plane were killed, including doctors, nurses and the pilot – as well as another two people on the ground, while two others were seriously injured.

Investigators have been despatched to the scene of the crash to establish its cause.

The plane lost both radio and radar contact with air traffic control just three minutes after take off, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority said.

There were four crew and Amref staff on board, the charity said.

“At this time, we are cooperating fully with relevant aviation authorities and emergency response teams to establish the facts surrounding the situation,” Amref CEO Stephen Gitau said in a statement.

The Kenya Defence Forces and the National Police Service have been deployed to the scene to conduct search and recovery operations.

Patricia Kombo, an eyewitness, told the BBC that she was in a cab with her friends heading to Githurai when they heard a loud bang and a red flash ahead of them.

“Before I could take my phone to record the flash was gone and smoke was billowing. We then heard people screaming and running and so we ended our trip.

“We then discovered it was a plane crash and saw the sunken hole the crash had created in the ground,” she said.

In a separate incident, a train and a bus collided at a railway crossing near Naivasha town, central Kenya, killing at least four people, according to Reuters news agency citing a Red Cross worker.

The Kenya Pipeline Company, whose bus was involved in the incident, said it was carrying staff finishing their morning shift at one of its training centres and that all injured staff had been taken to hospital for treatment.

A leading member of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, has described the demise of the Director of Elections of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, as an immeasurable loss.

In a post on X on Friday, August 8, 2025, Gabby Otchere-Darko described the late Minister of Defence as having been instrumental in the fortunes of his party.

“With Dr Omane Boamah’s passing, NDC has lost a most formidable political strategist. From his CJA days before 2008 to steering the 2024 elections, he was instrumental in NDC’s fortunes. At his age, he had more active decades ahead as their strategist. A loss too huge to measure,” he wrote.

Ghana Cocoa Farmers Split Over New Price Hike

0

Cocoa
Cocoa

Ghana’s cocoa heartlands show divided reactions to the government’s new producer price of GH¢3,228.75 per 64kg bag for the 2025/2026 season.

Announced by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the rate—equivalent to $5,040 per tonne—marks a 4% increase in cedis but a 62.58% surge in dollar terms from last season. While some farmers welcome the rise and accompanying support measures, others call it inadequate for their grueling work.

Samuel Torbi, a 36-acre farmer and former “best cocoa farmer” in Assin North, backs the move. “President Mahama’s strategies help us—free fertiliser, chemicals, and scholarships for our children,” he told Business and Financial Times.

But he warned against politicizing the sector: “People who know the work are often removed when power changes.” At Assin Fosu, Comfort Larbi called the price “acceptable” but urged better roads and telecom access: “We hope it continues to increase.”

Dissenting voices emerged too. Joseph Adjalo of Assin Foso expected at least GH¢4,000 per bag. “To move from GH¢3,100 to GH¢3,228.75 is small,” he argued, demanding transparency in the new scholarship scheme for farmers’ children. Joseph Mensah, managing 15 acres, echoed the frustration: “This is not what we were expecting.”

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) will reintroduce free fertilisers, insecticides, and spraying machines starting this season. A tertiary scholarship for farmers’ children launches next academic year. Minister Forson emphasized that despite the cedi’s strength against the dollar—which could have justified price cuts—government maintained last season’s rate to protect farmers.

Globally, cocoa prices remain volatile. After historic peaks above $11,000/tonne early this year due to West African crop failures, prices settled near $8,100–$8,300 by August. The International Cocoa Organisation confirms one of the largest global deficits in two decades.

Industry groups offered measured support. The Côte d’Ivoire-Ghana Cocoa Initiative praised Ghana’s “sustained commitment,” while farmers’ association COCOSHE called the price “a step forward” but stressed timely input distribution and traceability investments.

For farmers like Larbi, the true test lies beyond numbers: “Will my daughter get that scholarship? Will trucks reach our harvest before rains ruin the roads?”

Controversial Nude Photo Is My Biggest Regret – Akuapem Poloo

Akuapem Poloo

Socialite Rosemond Alade Brown, popularly known as Akuapem Poloo, has said her biggest regret in life is taking the controversial nude photo with her son that led to her arrest and imprisonment in 2021.

Speaking in an interview on AsaasePa FM, she said the photo, which showed her posing naked next to her son on social media, was misunderstood by the public.

“I wish I hadn’t taken that picture with my son. That is my only regret,” she said. “It came from the pain of raising him alone. People didn’t understand what I meant.”

Akuapem Poloo explained that the photo was meant to express the challenges of being a single mother and the deep bond she shares with her son—not to seek attention or fame.

“That is how naked I came into this world, and that is how I am raising him,” she added. “If he turns out well in the future and sees me on the street mentally unstable, he should cover me and take me home.”

The actress also opened up about her time in prison, saying the experience changed her life and mindset.

“I would not wish jail on even my worst enemy. It takes your freedom away mentally,” she said.

Now a mother of two after welcoming a baby girl, Akuapem Poloo said she has become more cautious and has decided never to post photos of her daughter online due to what she went through.

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings Mourns Victims of Tragic Helicopter Crash

0

Former First Lady of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, claiming the lives of several Ghanaians, including personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces.

In a heartfelt statement issued on Thursday, Nana Konadu described the incident as “a sad loss for the entire country,” extending her condolences to the bereaved families, the government, and the people of Ghana.

“It is with deep sorrow that I mourn with the families, government and people of Ghana on the sad loss of lives in the tragic helicopter incident,” she said. “Their loss is a sad one for the entire country and indeed the international community, many of whom may have interfaced with some of the departed.”

The former First Lady, who is also the wife of late President Jerry John Rawlings, acknowledged the sacrifices made by the fallen officers, particularly those from the Ghana Armed Forces who, she noted, died in active service to the nation.

“My sympathies go also to the officers and men of the Ghana Armed Forces who have lost men who were on duty for God and country,” she stated.

Nana Konadu concluded her message with a prayer for divine strength and comfort for the grieving families and the nation at large, adding, “May the Lord give us all strength and fortitude to mourn during this sorrowful time. I pray that the souls of the departed rest in eternal glory.”

The cause of the helicopter crash remains under investigation by the relevant authorities. The incident has sent shockwaves across the country, with many prominent figures and institutions joining in national mourning.

This message from Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings adds to the chorus of tributes pouring in for the victims of what is being described as one of the country’s most tragic aviation incidents in recent years

CIB Ghana leads national dialogue on monetary policy and banking reform

0

The Chartered Institute of Bankers, Ghana (CIB Ghana) has convened a high-level policy seminar under the theme “Monetary Policy in Action: How MPC Decisions Shape Ghana’s Economy and Financial Sector,” to examine the practical implications of monetary policy decisions on lending, inflation, and financial sector development.

President of CIB Ghana, Benjamin Amenumey, in his welcome address,  reaffirmed the Institute’s commitment to advancing professional discourse on national economic policy.

“Our mandate requires that we promote ethical and professional conduct while advancing the development of the banking profession. Fostering dialogue on monetary policy is a national duty,” he stated.

Robert Dzato, Chief Executive Officer of CIB Ghana, shared key findings from a recent study conducted by the Institute. The research, which surveyed senior banking executives and other officials, revealed widespread stakeholder alignment with the Bank of Ghana’s (BoG) recent policy stance.

“Over 85 percent of respondents had anticipated the latest rate cut. Stakeholders are looking for greater alignment between monetary policy actions and economic growth. We also heard concerns about liquidity constraints, credit risk, and volatility in funding costs,” he added.

The event’s keynote address was delivered by Dr. Johnson Asiama, Governor of the BoG, who described the current disinflation process as “real, sustained, and progressive,” supported by coordinated, data-driven measures between the central bank and the Ministry of Finance.

Inflation fell from 25.8 % in March to 13.7% in June 2025, while the Ghana Reference Rate (GRR) declined from 32.5% in January to 27.7% in July. Dr. Asiama cited the Cedi’s appreciation, over 40% year-to-date, as a key factor in lowering imported inflation and improving purchasing power.

He cautioned, however, that banks must prepare for the evolving financial landscape.

“Banks have to start assessing themselves, especially their credit infrastructure. We will soon come out with a notice on credit risk for banks, and it is all in line with what we see coming,” he said.

The Governor encouraged commercial banks to transition from passive investment in government securities to core credit intermediation.

“The era of high interest rates and passive investment is ending. Banks must now reimagine their business models, focusing on SMEs, agriculture, and green finance,” he added.

A panel discussion followed, featuring insights from key industry stakeholders.

Professor Festus Ebo Turkson, an external member of the MPC, explained the decision-making framework behind the recent rate cut.

“It is data-driven. Every decision we make reflects a rigorous review of economic conditions and risks,” he stated.

Dr. Humphrey Ayim Dake, President of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), expressed support for the changing interest rate environment. “We welcome the imminent low interest rate regime and expect to see more banking—that is, credit flowing into real businesses,” he said.

Joseph Obeng, President of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), noted that declining prices of imported goods are already evident due to the Cedi’s appreciation against major trading currencies, especially the US dollar. “If the Cedi holds steady, prices will continue to come down across the board,” he said.

Ellen Ohene-Afoakwa, Managing Principal for Corporate and Investment Banking at Absa Bank, observed that banks are ready to lend but require better-prepared businesses.

“Banks are willing to lend, but businesses must be in good shape to receive credit. Sound governance, financial discipline, and transparency matter,” she said.

The seminar affirmed the importance of inclusive, transparent dialogue in shaping policy and enhancing financial sector performance.

The Presidential Jet NDC Wanted Akufo-Addo to Use Has Now Been Declared a Flying Coffin – NPP’s PK

News Hub Creator11min

A prominent figure from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), PK Sarpong, has taken a jab at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for what he calls a surprising flip-flop regarding the state of Ghana’s presidential jet.

In a Facebook update, PK Sarpong reminded everyone that just nine months ago, North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, along with other NDC members, were adamant that the presidential jet was in top-notch condition.

He pointed out that the NDC had insisted President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had no reason to rent private jets for his overseas trips when the country already had a perfectly aircraft at its disposal.

Yet, PK Sarpong claims that the same individuals who once praised the jet’s condition are now calling it a “flying coffin.” He humorously labeled them as “NDC vipers” and accused them of playing political games to gain an advantage.

The phrase “flying coffin” has sparked quite a bit of controversy, implying that the aircraft is now unsafe to fly. PK Sarpong questioned how something that was deemed “pristine” less than a year ago could suddenly be viewed as a potential death trap.

He suggested that this abrupt shift in narrative indicates that the NDC isn’t being truthful with the public, but rather changing their stance based on what serves their political interests.

The presidential jet has been a hot topic in political discussions, with ongoing debates about whether it’s still fit for purpose or if it’s outdated.

PK Sarpong’s recent remarks have reignited this debate, leaving Ghanaians to ponder whether the truth lies in the earlier “pristine” description or the new “flyng coffin” label.

Barcelona have produced 12 Ballon d’Or wins, driven by Lionel Messi’s record seven triumphs (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2019, 2021) alongside icons like Johan Cruyff (1973, 1974), Rivaldo (1999), Ronaldinho (2005), and Hristo Stoichkov (1994).

Real Madrid also have 12, powered by Cristiano Ronaldo’s four victories (2013, 2014, 2016, 2017), Alfredo Di Stéfano’s two (1957, 1959), and single wins from Raymond Kopa (1958), Luis Figo (2000), Ronaldo Nazário (2002), Fabio Cannavaro (2006), Luka Modrić (2018), and Karim Benzema’s victory in 2022.

These Spanish giants, with 24 combined wins, underscore their dominance in nurturing world-class talent.

Juventus and AC Milan share third place each with eight Ballon d’Or wins, while Bayern Munich comes next with five.

Juventus’ haul includes Michel Platini’s three consecutive wins (1983–1985), Paolo Rossi (1982), Omar Sívori (1961), Roberto Baggio (1993), Zinedine Zidane (1998), and Pavel Nedvěd (2003), reflecting their historic prowess in Italian football.

AC Milan’s eight wins feature legends like Gianni Rivera (1969), Ruud Gullit (1987), Marco van Basten (1988, 1989, 1992), George Weah (1995), Andriy Shevchenko (2004), and Kaká (2007), cementing their legacy as a European powerhouse.

Bayern Munich’s five wins come from Gerd Müller (1970), Franz Beckenbauer (1972, 1976), Karl-Heinz Rummenigge (1980, 1981), and Matthias Sammer (1996), highlighting their consistent production of elite talent.

These clubs’ rich histories and ability to produce Ballon d’Or winners solidify their status as football’s elite, with the 2025 ceremony on September 22.

However, another outside can win the 2025 Ballon d’Or with PSG’s Ousmane Dembele being the front runner after leading his team to to a historic treble.

Glamorous Gowns High-Profile Mothers Can Recreate

0

High-profile mothers are often admired not only for their achievements but also for their impeccable fashion sense. One of the most powerful ways they showcase grace, sophistication, and confidence is through their choice of glamorous gowns. These statement dresses go beyond aesthetics—they communicate status, elegance, and a deep sense of personal style. Perfect for upscale events such as award ceremonies, high-profile weddings, political banquets, or elite social gatherings, the right gown helps them command attention with poise.

A standout favorite among elegant styles is the classic mermaid gown. Known for its body-hugging silhouette that flares at the hem, it beautifully accentuates the figure while delivering drama and flair. When made with opulent fabrics like duchess satin, crepe, or velvet—and enhanced with sequins, rhinestones, or elaborate beadwork—the result is a showstopping ensemble. Deep, rich hues such as emerald green, royal blue, burgundy, or champagne gold elevate the look with a sense of quiet luxury.

Another timeless option is the ball gown, loved for its structured bodice and voluminous skirt. This style exudes regal charm and is ideal for formal evening events. Designers often add intricate lace, floral appliqués, or glimmering crystals to make these dresses feel like a modern-day fairy tale.

For mothers who enjoy blending tradition with couture, custom Ankara gowns or beaded African-inspired designs offer a fresh twist. Dramatic sleeves, high slits, asymmetrical cuts, and bold patterns can all add a contemporary edge while honoring cultural roots.

Accessorizing is key—think elegant stilettos, jeweled clutches, and timeless jewelry like pearls or diamonds. Complement the ensemble with refined hairstyles such as sleek buns, cascading waves, or side-swept curls.

With the perfect gown and styling, high-profile mothers can radiate confidence and glamour at every special occasion.

Politicisation of Ghana’s cocoa sector, the sad reality

0

Ghana’s cocoa sector, the “soul” of the country’s economy, is facing a pressing challenge that threatens its very foundation.

The sector generates a substantial $2 billion in annual revenue but has become a pawn in the country’s political landscape. The growing politicisation of the sector has sparked widespread concern among farmers, who are demanding a greater say in the decision-making process.

On the issue of the appointment of the sector’s leadership, some farmers in the Ashanti region and other cocoa-growing areas are frustrated with the lack of transparency and merit-based selection in the appointment of the CEO. For them, experts in the sector should be taking the reins, but political considerations seem to be driving the process.

According to them, this has led to a lack of trust and confidence in the sector’s leadership, hindering its growth and development.

They say the impact of politicisation on the cocoa sector cannot be overstated. Ghana’s economy is heavily reliant on the industry, and any instability or inefficiency has far-reaching consequences. The sector’s performance affects not only the farmers but also the livelihoods of countless others who depend on it.

Some farmers are now calling for a more inclusive approach to leadership selection. They want a say in electing a CEO who understands the intricacies of the industry and can drive growth and development. This demand is not just about representation; it’s about ensuring the sector’s sustainability and competitiveness in the global market.

With the current pricing for farmers, which has been increased from 3,100 to 3,228, some farmers are of the view that the government has deceived them based on its political promises.

For some farmers, the government promised to double the price of cocoa. Some say the government has deceived them.

Again, some cocoa farmers believe that issues like cocoa pricing should not be politicised.

Over-politicisation has not only affected pricing but also the distribution of chemicals to farmers.

COCOBOD has over 700,000 registered farmers across the country. But some farmers say the distribution of the chemicals does not get to them, leading to the use of unapproved chemicals, which is affecting the growth of the cocoa.

To curb this, the COCOBOD, through the partnership with the European Union and GIZ, has introduced the Cocoa Management System (CMS) to get all data of cocoa farmers across the country to address issues of sharing fertilisers and other farm inputs. Under this, COCOBOD has the Cocoa Traceability and other initiatives.

Over twenty-eight thousand (28,000) farmers have been registered under an initiative called

Efforts by GIZ and COCOBOD have led to the mapping of some cocoa farms in Assin Fosu.

Also, with the cocoa traceability program, each cocoa can be traced from production to distribution. This project is expected to curb the smuggling of cocoa beans and other goods.

With this initiative, which is yet to be implemented in the Ashanti region and other Cocoa farming areas, they believe this will help ensure transparency and accountability.

Ghana Launches First National Awards for Customer Experience Excellence

0

Ghana Cxx Awards
Ghana Cxx Awards

Customer Experience Professionals Ghana (CXP Ghana) and KPMG Ghana have unveiled the country’s inaugural Customer Experience Excellence (CXX) Awards, creating a cross-industry platform to honor brands and individuals transforming service standards nationwide.

The initiative responds to Ghana’s accelerating business landscape, where customer expectations often outpace organizational delivery.

CXP Ghana President Esther Dokuwaa Ofosuhene called the awards “long overdue” during the August 5 launch, framing them as an extension of her association’s mission to professionalize customer-centric practices.

Since evolving from a LinkedIn community in 2020 to a registered body, CXP Ghana has championed embedding customer-first thinking into policy, training, and daily operations. Advisory Council Chair Margaret Takyi-Micah emphasized the timing, noting customer experience “matters now more than ever” in Ghana’s competitive environment.

The awards target pervasive service gaps—endless queues, dropped calls, unreliable digital services—by spotlighting innovators who turn complaints into solutions and frontline staff into service champions. Categories include Lifetime Achievement for industry pioneers, CX Rising Star for emerging talent, Contact Center Leader of the Year, and sector-specific CX Practitioner awards spanning banking, telecoms, insurance, public services, health, and hospitality.

KPMG Ghana’s Jonathan Lutterodt, serving as Knowledge Partner, stressed the awards aim to “set a higher standard” for service excellence beyond mere recognition. An independent panel of CX leaders will judge entries, with KPMG auditing the process for credibility. Nominations open August 8 and close September 5, welcoming both self-submissions and third-party recommendations through CXP Ghana’s website.

For an industry where frustration often overshadows progress, the awards offer more than accolades. They signal that in Ghana’s evolving economy, exceptional service is becoming non-negotiable.

Former National Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah, has claimed that the late Dr Edward Omane Boamah and Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed went to their graves untainted by corruption.

The two Ministers of Defence and Environment, respectively, and six other persons died in a helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6.

The other six were: Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Aboagye, a former NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East and Deputy NADMO Director; and Samuel Sarpong, a Vice Chairman of the NDC and a former Kumasi Mayor.

The crew members who also perished were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Mane-Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

Speaking in an interview with JoyNews following the tragic crash, Mr Mornah paid tribute to the integrity of the two statesmen. “These two gentlemen, virtually of my age, I can say that they died without being corrupt.”

Mr Mornah described the deceased as principled public servants who stood firm in their convictions and served the nation with clean hands. “They died, and they would not have taken any dime from anybody for their good rather than the good of humanity. I can attest to their level of commitment to our nation.”

“If there are human saints, I will name Omane Boamah and Murtala that in the field of public service, they can be adjudged as some of the saints that we have had,” he added.

His comments come as tributes continue to pour in from across the political spectrum, honouring the lives and legacies of the two men.

President John Mahama has announced that a state funeral will be held on Friday, August 15, at the Black Star Square in Accra to honour the eight individuals.

Ghana Leaders Demand Policy Unity to Turn Rate Cuts into Real Growth

0

Dignitaries Present At The Cib Ghana S Roundtable Discussion Post Mpc Decision
Dignitaries Present At The Cib Ghana S Roundtable Discussion Post Mpc Decision

Top bankers, businesses, and the central bank are urging Ghana’s policymakers to forge stronger links between interest rate reductions and fiscal reforms.

At a high-level forum in Accra, stakeholders agreed that the Bank of Ghana’s recent monetary easing while positive, won’t translate into broad economic gains without coordinated tax relief, infrastructure spending, and private-sector support.

Hosted by the Chartered Institute of Bankers (CIB Ghana), the seminar united central bank officials, commercial lenders, manufacturers, and traders. CIB President Benjamin Amenumey framed the dialogue as a professional duty: “Banking isn’t just about balance sheets. It’s about shaping policies that lift businesses and households.” New data from CIB Ghana revealed over 85% of financial executives anticipated the latest rate cut, signaling growing confidence in the Bank of Ghana’s predictability. Yet most warned that disjointed fiscal actions could stifle its impact.

The Alignment Gap

Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama pointed to tangible progress: inflation fell from 25.8% in March to 13.7% in June, while the cedi rallied over 40% year-to-date. The Ghana Reference Rate dipped to 27.7% in July. “But cutting rates is half the battle,” Asiama stressed. “Banks must shift from parking funds in government bonds to backing SMEs, agriculture, and green ventures. That’s where jobs are born.” He hinted at upcoming credit-risk guidelines to spur lending.

Industry leaders echoed the call for synergy. Dr. Humphrey Ayim-Dake of the Association of Ghana Industries noted cheaper borrowing helps factories, but without tax breaks and reliable roads, “hiring and expansion plans stay shelved.” For traders, a stronger cedi has trimmed import bills, yet Joseph Obeng of GUTA highlighted stubborn hurdles: “Port fees drain profits, and tax rules shift weekly. You’d find more stability during a rainstorm.”

Banks Seek Clarity

Absa Ghana’s Ellen Ohene-Afoakwa acknowledged lenders’ role but emphasized reciprocity: “We’ll lend more when businesses show clean books and governments offer stable policies. Uncertainty breeds risk premiums.”

The consensus was clear: lasting recovery hinges on merging monetary tools with fiscal actions—streamlining taxes, upgrading infrastructure, and clearing state arrears to free up capital. For ordinary Ghanaians, this isn’t theory. It means affordable loans for market stalls, steady prices for kenkey, and paychecks from thriving local factories. As the ruling NDC government eyes 2028 elections, delivering this coordination could define its economic legacy.

My mother is acting strange and scary; my family is afraid of her

0

File photo of a worried man File photo of a worried man

Dear GhanaWeb,

I am a 43-year-old man and the only son of my parents. My father passed away years ago, so it has always been just my mother and me.

Growing up, my extended family didn’t support us, so my mother raised me alone.

Now, my mother is 74 years old. God has blessed me enough to be able to take care of her. I am married with two children, and recently, I bought a house for her to live in.

However, she often complained of loneliness, so about two months ago, I decided to bring her to live with my family.

Since she moved in, things have taken a strange turn. She hasn’t troubled me directly, but her behaviour has become very unsettling.

Every evening, she seems to be having a conversation with someone in her room. We can hear her clearly, talking and laughing, but we never hear anyone respond.

Her room is downstairs, directly beneath the bedroom my wife and I share. Whenever we hear the strange conversations and go down to check, we always find her fast asleep.

On several occasions, we’ve tried to wake her, but it’s been extremely difficult, almost like she’s in a trance. This is unusual because she’s never been hard to wake up before.

She has also become very protective of her room. She gets extremely upset if anyone enters it while she’s not there.

She says we’ll “wake her people up”, but when we ask who these “people” are, she refuses to answer. If we insist, she cries or yells until we back off.

The house help has even stopped attending to her because she won’t allow anyone to do anything for her.

Everyone in the house is now afraid of her. Sometimes she accuses us of trying to feed “them” with the food we bring her.

But the scariest part are the night voices and noises. Strangely, when we sleep in another room, we don’t hear anything at all.

My wife is convinced that my mother is a witch and wants her to leave. As much as I love my mother, I am scared too. But I can’t abandon her.

She doesn’t want to talk to me about what’s going on, and when I press her, she either cries or pretends not to understand.

Even my children are now afraid of her. They don’t want to go near her, and I can see how this is affecting everyone in the house. I’m deeply troubled by the situation.

I don’t know what to think anymore. What could be happening to my mother? How do I resolve this without turning my back on her?

More importantly, how do I get my family to stop fearing her and love her again?

Please, I need help.

Parliament urged to pass law against wasteful halt of public projects

0

Parliament House of Ghana Parliament House of Ghana

Stakeholders at the 2025 National Project Management Conference have called on the government and Parliament to consider the passage of the proposed Project Management Act, describing it as essential to project continuity and national development.

The resolution, part of a ten-point communiqué issued at the close of the conference held at Aqua Safari Resort on July 25, stated that the Act “will provide a legal backbone for project continuity, ensuring that no viable national project is abandoned except by independent technical audit.”

This call comes amid growing concern over the number of stalled or abandoned public sector projects across the country, a trend that has raised questions about fiscal discipline, planning, and institutional memory in the nation’s development process.

The communiqué, signed by Frank Owusu-Asamoah, President of the Project Management Institute (PMI) – organisers of the aforementioned conference, emphasised the need for structural reforms to professionalise project delivery and protect public investments from political disruptions.

It stated, “The culture of discarding or altering strategic projects with political transitions must end. National projects must be protected from partisanship to preserve Ghana’s development agenda.”

During the 2025 State of the Nation Address (SONA), President John Mahama disclosed that there were at least 55 stalled national projects, requiring some GH¢15 billion to complete.

In addition to legislative reform, the communiqué outlined several complementary proposals, including the establishment of an independent National Project Delivery & Accountability Authority to “oversee the lifecycle of all public projects and manage a National Project Register accessible to the public.”

The proposed Act would also support a Finish-to-Start policy, backed by a dedicated National Project Completion Fund to prioritise and finance stalled or abandoned national projects before new ones are initiated. According to the communiqué, “This fund will anchor a Finish-to-Start policy, ensuring that existing projects are completed and deliver value before the initiation of new ones.”

These recommendations form part of a broader strategy to transform project management into what the communiqué describes as “a cornerstone of national development where every cedi spent delivers value, and every project completed becomes a symbol of national pride and trust in governance.”

The statement included a a call to mandate the use of certified project management practitioners for all public sector projects.

According to the communiqué, “We recommend that all public projects be led by certified project management practitioners to safeguard quality, efficiency, and ethical execution across all sectors.”

The conference also advocated for the adoption of the Ghana Integrated Project Management Framework (GIPMF) as a national standard. Developed by Ghanaian experts, the GIPMF was described as a tool for “project governance, delivery, sustainability, and monitoring.”

Delegates further recommended that the framework be fully integrated into the operational systems of all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) and aligned with the Public Financial Management Act to “ensure budget discipline and eliminate cost overruns.

To improve transparency and real-time performance tracking, participants called for the institutionalisation of Earned Value Management (EVM) and the deployment of public dashboards across all government projects.

The communiqué stated, “We call for mandatory implementation of Earned Value Management (EVM) and real-time public dashboards on all government projects to improve transparency, performance monitoring, and accountability.”

Gender inclusion was also a key focus. The communiqué urged the formal adoption of the Women in Project Management Framework, developed in collaboration with PMI Ghana. It set a benchmark that at least 30 percent of project leadership roles in public sector projects are held by qualified and Certified women.

It also addressed the environmental and developmental risks posed by illegal mining. It called on the government to “declare galamsey a national development risk,” and recommended that efforts to combat illegal mining be formally tracked as Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for District Chief Executives (DCEs) and Police Commanders in galamsey-prone areas.

This, it noted, would help ensure that local authorities are directly responsible for preserving environmental assets, protecting public investments, and fostering a culture of enforcement, responsibility, and long-term national value.

The statement included a collective pledge from participants, reaffirming their commitment to the resolutions and urging collaboration across government, private sector, professional bodies, and development partners to advance a new era of project excellence, value-for-money, and national transformation.

Akpaloo should bow his head in shame over his insensitive comments on the helicopter crash- Hughes

0

Broadcast journalist Johnnie Hughes has slammed Kofi Akpaloo, the Leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana, for what he described as his insensitive comments on the eight individuals who perished in the recent helicopter crash at Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

Kofi Akpaloo is reported to have said the victims perished on a cocoa farm because, according to him, the National Democratic Congress government lied to the cocoa farmers about the producer price of cocoa.

He insisted that the recent GHC6000 per bag of cocoa announced by the government was not what President John Dramani Mahama promised the cocoa farmers in the lead-up to the 2024 general elections.

Kofi Akpaloo has been at the receiving end of a massive backlash from Ghanaians, on both traditional and social media platforms since he made the controversial remarks.

Speaking on his Johnniesbite show, Johnnie Hughes expressed shock that such comments came from Kofi Akpaloo, who wanted to be President of Ghana.

According to him, at a time when the whole country is mourning, the 2024 LPG presidential candidate should not have made such insensitive comments, stressing that the comments will hurt the families who are mourning their loved ones.

He asked Akpaloo to bow his head in shame over the unpalatable comments.

The fatal crash, which occurred on Wednesday in the Adansi Akrofuom District, plunged the country into mourning, prompting an outpouring of grief and shock across political and military circles. Among the victims were two prominent cabinet ministers, Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.

Helicopter crash demands more than DNA tests – Forensic Analyst

0

Forensic security Analyst, Dr. Lawrence Kofi Acheampong has justified the need for a full-scale forensic investigation into the military helicopter crash that killed eight people, including two government ministers, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

His call comes after the government announced that the remains of the victims had been flown to South Africa for advanced DNA analysis due to the condition of the bodies.

The 37 Military Hospital in Accra was initially expected to handle the process, but officials say the complexity of the case requires more specialised procedures.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Friday, August 8, 2025, Dr. Acheampong said the nature of the tragedy demands more than basic victim identification.

“Looking at the people involved and the resources required, this is something that is at the heart of all Ghanaians. We must conduct a forensic audit of the disaster, which goes far beyond DNA testing,” he stated.

He explained that a thorough probe would require multiple specialists — including fire forensic experts, forensic pathologists, chemical pathologists, toxicologists, and forensic engineers — to uncover the technical, environmental, and human factors behind the crash.

“When we talk about forensic, we are not only talking about DNA; we need to go deeper. We must determine what went wrong with the flight before the tragic event happened,” he stressed, adding that even what may appear to be a simple disaster could reveal complex causes through proper forensic analysis.

Ghana promises full investigation into helicopter crash which killed two ministers

0

Ghana is in a period of national mourning after the helicopter crash Ghana is in a period of national mourning after the helicopter crash

Ghana’s President John Mahama has promised a full investigation into Wednesday’s helicopter crash that killed two government ministers and six other people.

Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah and Environment, Science and Technology Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, 50, were among those killed when a military aircraft crashed in the central Ashanti region.

In a televised address to the nation, Mahama said the crash represented “a personal loss” for him.

“I shared a bond with many of those who died. Our nation is grieving,” he said.

The Z9 helicopter, carrying three crew and five passengers, came down in a dense forest as it was flying from the capital, Accra, to the town of Obuasi for an event to tackle illegal mining. There were no survivors.

The bodies of the eight deceased have been recovered from the crash site, and samples have been sent to South Africa for forensic identification and analysis.

Ghana’s Deputy National Security Coordinator and former Agriculture Minister Alhaji Muniru Mohammed was also among the dead, along with Samuel Sarpong, Vice-Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress party.

A state funeral will be held on 15 August for the victims, AFP reported.

Authorities have not confirmed the cause of the crash but Mahama confirmed that the flight data and cockpit voice recorders had been retrieved and that Ghana’s armed forces had “initiated a full and transparent investigation”.

Ghana’s meteorological agency had forecast unusually cold weather for August, with recent rains and light showers causing foggy conditions in many forest areas. Local farmers near the crash site reported morning fog as the helicopter flew overhead.

One eyewitness told the BBC the helicopter was flying at an “unusually low altitude” and the weather was bad.

He said he heard the sound of the helicopter passing by, followed by a “loud sound” and then a “bang”.

“That’s when I realised that the helicopter had exploded. So I hurried to the place to see if I could find survivors,” he said.

The farmer said when he got to the scene there was “no-one to be rescued”.

This is the most deadly of three separate emergency incidents involving Ghana Air Force helicopters in recent years.

In 2020, a Ghana Air Force Harbin Z-9 helicopter made an emergency landing near Tamale Airport, and last year, another Ghana Air Force helicopter made an emergency landing at Bonsukrom in Ghana’s Western Region.

Many Ghanaians are shocked by the news and are still struggling to come to terms with the news. Images purportedly showing the charred remains of the helicopter have been circulating on social media.

President Mahama has suspended all his scheduled activities for the rest of the week and declared three days of mourning starting from Thursday.

The country’s flags are flying at half-mast.

The crew members were named as Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

Boamah served under Mahama’s previous government as communications minister and before that he was minister of environment. As defence minster he tackled jihadist activity that was brewing in the northern border in Burkina Faso.

In 2022, a France-based NGO, Promediation, said its research showed that jihadist groups had recruited between 200 and 300 young Ghanaians.

Violence in the area has also been on the rise, with concerns that jihadists may be trying to exploit communal in-fighting between rival communities in northern Ghana.

Boamah’s book A Peaceful Man In An African Democracy, about former president John Atta Mills, was due to come out later in the year.

Muhammed was at the forefront of the battle against illegal gold mining, which has wrecked the environment and contaminated rivers and lakes.

Protests against the practice, known locally as Galamsey, peaked during Mahama’s run for the presidency last year.

Following numerous accusations of fraud levelled against Shatta Wale, the dancehall musician has insisted that he lives a ‘clean’ lifestyle.

During a TikTok live session, Shatta debunked claims that he acquired his Lamborghini Urus, which was recently seized by EOCO, through fraudulent means.

He emphasised that there is nothing illegal about him and his brand, stating, “There is no way I am going to disappoint the Shatta movement fans. There is nothing illegal about Shatta Wale that somebody will get around me. What at all will I do wrong? This world, if you don’t know, ask, they will show you.”

Shatta Wale added,”I don’t know a whole lot of things in this country until I get a police case, and I will be required to write a statement. We are learning every day. There is no way Shatta Wale would come out and lie to the whole country.”

The ‘On God” singer, touching further on his current ‘woes’ with EOCO, said he strongly believes he has been targeted.

“Can’t you see the way I am built and my confidence? Nobody can tarnish my image because they have been doing it for years in Ghana.

“They have tried so hard because I am not part of the music industry. So, what can we do to bring him down for people to see that he is a bad person? That is what they have been doing every year in my life,” he added.

In June 2025, the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) seized a Lamborghini Urus from Shatta Wale, stating that it was linked to a major fraud case in the United States.

The vehicle was reportedly connected to one Nana Kwabena Amuah, a Ghanaian-American who had been convicted of running multi-million-dollar romance scams and business email compromise schemes in the US.

According to EOCO, the Lamborghini was purchased using proceeds from those fraudulent activities.

Shatta Wale, however, has denied any wrongdoing.

He explained that he purchased the vehicle as a third-party buyer for $150,000 and has no personal or business relationship with Amuah.

New $15m initiative targets women in non-traditional exports

President of the Federation of Associations of Ghanaian Exporters (FAGE), Davis Korboe President of the Federation of Associations of Ghanaian Exporters (FAGE), Davis Korboe

The Federation of Associations of Ghanaian Exporters (FAGE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Guzakuza, a Pan-African women-led agribusiness organisation, to roll out WISE Exports 2.0, a four-year initiative to scale 300 women-led non-traditional export SMEs across Ghana.

Targeting $15 million in cumulative export sales and over 1,500 direct and indirect jobs by 2029, the programme will focus on high-value chains such as cassava, moringa, cocoa, dried fruits, shea, baobab, coconut, and fashion accessories.

“This MOU signals to Ghana, Africa, and the world that women-led exports are a strategic priority,” Emmanuel Ansah-Amprofi, FAGE’s Youth & Gender Coordinator said.

“WISE Exports 2.0 is not just a programme, it’s a transformational movement to build inclusive wealth and sustainable trade opportunities,” he added.

FAGE CEO Abdul-Karim Dubiure added, “We are committed to placing women at the forefront of Ghana’s export drive, marking a bold turning point for women-led initiatives that will transform lives nationwide.”

The initiative brings together FAGE’s trade policy leadership, Guzakuza’s expertise in empowering agribusinesses, and BuyAfricaMade’s digital platform to connect SMEs with global buyers.

It will tackle three major barriers facing women exporters; limited export readiness, inadequate trade finance, and exclusion from global market systems.

“Women entrepreneurs are powering Africa’s growth quietly, it’s time they get the systems and scale to go global,” Guzakuza Founder Nana Adjoa Sefa said.

WISE Exports 2.0 is seeking strategic investors, development agencies, and trade finance partners to co-fund its $3 million implementation plan.

The programme aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals on gender equality, economic growth, and industry innovation.

A grid photo of top African players who came close to winning the Ballon d'Or A grid photo of top African players who came close to winning the Ballon d’Or

Since George Weah’s historic 1995 Ballon d’Or victory as the only African to win the prestigious award, several African footballers have come close to joining him on the podium but they never won it.

This article looks at top African players who had great careers but were not able to stand on the Ballon d’Or podium.

Sadio Mané, the Senegalese forward, achieved the highest finish for an African since George Oppong Weah, securing second place in 2022 behind Karim Benzema.

Mané’s stellar 2021-22 season with Liverpool, where he scored 23 goals and provided 14 assists, coupled with his pivotal role in Senegal’s first-ever AFCON triumph after scoring the decisive penalty in the final against Egypt propelled him to the runner-up spot.

‘Always the GOAT’ – Cristiano Ronaldo trends after scoring a hat-trick for Al Nassr

Samuel Eto’o, the Cameroon’s prolific striker, came close in 2009, finishing fifth after a treble-winning season with Barcelona, scoring 36 goals in 52 matches, including crucial strikes in the Champions League final.

Eto’o’s nine nominations which is the most by any other African underscore his consistent excellence, though he never entered the top three.

Didier Drogba, the Ivorian icon was 4th in 2007 after a remarkable season with Chelsea, scoring 33 goals in 60 matches and winning the Premier League Golden Boot.

Top 5 football clubs with the most Ballon d’Or winners: A legacy of excellence

His physicality and clutch performances, including six Champions League goals, made him a strong contender, yet he was edged out by Kaká, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Lionel Messi.

Mohamed Salah, Egypt’s talisman, twice finished fifth in 2019 and 2022 following sensational seasons with Liverpool, where his 44 goals in 2017-18 and Champions League triumph in 2019 brought him close to the podium.

Victor Osimhen also made history in 2023, finishing eighth, the highest ranking for a Nigerian, after scoring 31 goals to lead Napoli to their first Serie A title in 33 years.

These near misses highlight the immense talent of african players, who continue to challenge the award’s historical bias toward attacking players from Europe and South America, with Achraf Hakimi’s 2025 nomination signaling hope for future African success.

“Drama in Court as Woman Allegedly Tries to Remove Nana Agradaa’s Gold Teeth to Prove Theft Case.

0

ACCRA – A bizarre scene unfolded at a local court when a woman reportedly stormed into the courtroom attempting to remove Nana Agradaa’s gold teeth, claiming they belonged to her.

According to eyewitnesses, the unidentified woman was in court to pursue a case against Nana Agradaa, the controversial evangelist and former fetish priestess, alleging that Agradaa had taken her gold under false pretenses. In a dramatic twist, the woman insisted that some of the gold was used to craft Agradaa’s shiny dental accessories.

Chaos briefly erupted when the woman made a sudden move toward Agradaa during proceedings, allegedly trying to snatch the gold teeth from her mouth to “prove her case.” Court security quickly intervened, restraining her and restoring order in the courtroom.

The judge, visibly startled by the outburst, adjourned the hearing and warned both parties to maintain decorum. Nana Agradaa, who appeared unfazed, dismissed the claims as “pure lies and embarrassment tactics” aimed at damaging her reputation.

Outside the courtroom, the woman doubled down on her accusations, telling reporters, “She scammed me and turned my gold into her teeth. I want it back—every piece!”

The case has since drawn massive attention on social media, with Ghanaians reacting with disbelief and amusement at the strange turn of events. Authorities say further investigations will continue, and a new court date is expected to be set.

Meanwhile, security around Nana Agradaa has reportedly been tightened as tensions rise between her and disgruntled former clients.

Vogue Senator Outfits For Classy Men

0

A refined senator outfit begins with excellent tailoring that enhances the wearer’s figure while maintaining a comfortable, structured fit. Neither too tight nor overly loose, the ideal senator ensemble follows the natural lines of the body, resulting in a clean, sophisticated silhouette. When designed using premium materials like polished cotton, jacquard, or silk-blend fabrics, the outfit projects elegance, class, and cultural pride.

Modern styles tend to favor rich, dark colors such as navy blue, deep gray, or emerald green. These hues not only exude maturity and sophistication but also serve as a perfect canvas for subtle embellishments. Light embroidery around the neckline or chest adds texture and style without overwhelming the garment.

One of the most timeless versions of the senator outfit is the monochrome look. A well-fitted black senator outfit, paired with sleek trousers, leather loafers, and a classic wristwatch, conveys quiet confidence and refined taste. Touches of gold or silver embroidery can be added to give it a more festive or formal edge—ideal for weddings, galas, or special events.

For daytime or semi-formal outings, lighter tones like beige, sky blue, or lilac offer a fresh and graceful alternative. When styled with brown leather sandals and a matching fila cap, these colors bring out the outfit’s relaxed yet polished appeal—perfect for cultural events, brunches, or outdoor celebrations.

Designers are now reimagining the senator look by experimenting with bold patterns, layered fabrics, and geometric embroidery. Features like asymmetrical hemlines or vertical stitching can give a modern twist to this traditional attire.

Accessories complete the ensemble—think a well-matched fila, a sleek wristwatch, or a bracelet. Footwear choices should reflect the occasion, from classic loafers to palm sandals. For a final touch, a pair of sunglasses can add just the right amount of contemporary edge.

Sammy Was supposed to join them, but fortunately for him, he couldn’t—Donkor Reveals Reason

0

In the wake of the tragic helicopter crash that has shaken the nation, National Democratic Congress (NDC) member Fuseini Donkor has spoken out about the emotional toll the incident has taken—particularly on the family of the late Samuel Aboagye.

During an interview that aired on TV3 Ghana and quickly went viral on social media, Donkor expressed deep sorrow over the incident, revealing that the most heartbreaking part of the tragedy is the fact that Aboagye’s wife is currently alone in the United States with their child.

“This is definitely a dark moment for the country,” Donkor said somberly. “The difficult part is that Samuel Aboagye’s wife is alone in the United States with their child.”

He explained that the delegation aboard the ill-fated helicopter was en route to a strategic program designed to address ongoing national security concerns in Obuasi, particularly issues stemming from illegal mining (galamsey). According to Donkor, the initiative was supposed to be a turning point for the region’s youth by transitioning them from illegal operations to structured and responsible mining practices.

“The program was meant to manage the persistent security issues in Obuasi caused by mining,” he noted. “It was a national priority, and the party needed representation.”

He also disclosed that the group was carefully selected due to the limited seating capacity of the helicopter. Notably, NDC’s National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, was supposed to be on board but was left out due to space constraints.

“Sammy Gyamfi’s name was there,” Donkor revealed. “He was supposed to join them, but fortunately for him, he couldn’t because the helicopter could not carry more than five passengers.”

The accident has sparked a nationwide wave of mourning and reflection, particularly within the NDC and Obuasi communities. As Donkor highlighted, many believe the tragedy could have claimed even more lives had additional party members been allowed to join the delegation.

TV3 Ghana shared the full video of the interview on their official Instagram page on Thursday, August 7, 2025, prompting an outpouring of grief and emotional reactions from the public. Many Ghanaians have used the platform to send messages of support to the bereaved families.

As the nation continues to mourn the lives lost, Donkor’s words serve as a reminder of the human cost of this tragic event—not only the victims, but also the loved ones left behind to face an uncertain future in solitude.
