The former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology (MEST), Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, will be buried today according to Islamic tradition.

Political life

Dr Muhammed was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale Central in the Northern Region in the Eighth and Ninth Parliaments.

He came to the political limelight when he was appointed the Deputy National Coordinator of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) by former President John Evans Atta Mills.

He held that position until he was elected MP for Nanton in the 2012 Elections. After serving one term, he lost the seat in 2016.

President John Dramani Mahama appointed Dr Muhammed as Deputy Minister of Information and Media Relations, and subsequently, Trade and Industry from 2013 to 2017.

Following the decision of the former MP for Tamale Central, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, not to contest the Tamale Central seat in the 2020 elections, Dr Muhammed switched camp to the area and won the seat in 2020 and 2024.

For over a decade, he was one of the formidable voices in the NDC communication team.

Education

Born on December 14, 1974, Dr Muhammed attended Ghana Senior High (GHANASCO), Tamale. He is a trained teacher who holds a teacher’s Certificate “A” from the Tamale College of Education (TACE).

He also holds a Master’s degree in Development Planning and International Relations and Diplomacy from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the University of Ghana respectively.

He has a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Mount Crest University and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the University of Ghana.

He holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Political Science. His doctoral thesis is titled: “The Committee System of the Parliament of Ghana’s Fourth Republic: An Assessment.”

Dr Muhammed was a Muslim and married with three children.

Shock

Mohammed Fugu reports from Tamale that a wave of shock and profound sorrow has swept through the Tamale Central Constituency, and for that matter, the Northern Region, following the tragic death of Dr Muhammed.

The heartbreaking news had plunged party members, sympathisers, and the entire community into a state of mourning, with many people gathering at the party office, struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss of a man they described as a “dedicated servant, humble leader, and a champion of the people”.

The NDC Tamale Central Constituency Communication Officer, Umar Abdul Razak, described Dr Murtala’s death as a monumental loss to the entire nation.

“I believe that Murtala would be pardoned by Almighty Allah because he was a practising Muslim. He died on national duty,” he said.

Mr Razak recounted how earlier in the day, the MP had tasked him to inform constituency elders about a planned sod-cutting ceremony for a new health facility, assuring him he would return later that evening to finalise arrangements.

He added that the MP had sent him money to settle hospital bills for some party members earlier that morning — a final act of kindness that reflected Dr Murtala’s deep commitment to the welfare of his people.

A constituent, Mohammed Musah, also described the late MP as a very kind person to all, irrespective of party affiliation.

“Many people depend on him for school fees and medical bills,” he said.

Moments after the announcement of the incident, the Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf John, led a delegation to inform the family about the tragic demise of the MP.

Hundreds of people have since gathered at the family house of the late MP to mourn with them.

Abuakwa South MP mourns victims of August 6 helicopter crash

0

Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Dr. Kingsley Agyemang has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight individuals, including his former schoolmate and senior, Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah.

In a heartfelt tribute shared on Wednesday, Dr. Agyemang mourned the devastating loss and reflected on the ultimate sacrifice made by public servants who dedicate their lives to the nation.

The crash, which occurred earlier in the day in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, involved a Ghana Air Force Z-9 helicopter en route to Obuasi.

It claimed the lives of high-ranking officials including Dr. Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.

Reports suggest the officials were on a mission related to the ongoing fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

Dr. Agyemang described the moment as a “great national loss,” emphasizing the dangers that often accompany public service.

“This painful moment reminds us of the quiet risks borne each day by those who serve our country. Their sacrifice, though often unseen, is real, and in this instance, ultimate,” he wrote.

He called on Ghanaians and the government to honour the memory of the fallen not only with tributes but through decisive action against the menace they were confronting.

“If these gallant men were on their way to confront the scourge of illegal mining, then the fight against galamsey must now assume the same urgency with which we respond to death itself,” he urged. “We owe them more than tributes; we owe them commitment and action.”

The tribute concluded with a solemn prayer for the repose of their souls and a call for national reflection.

This message adds to a growing wave of condolences and tributes pouring in from political leaders, civil society actors, and citizens across the country as Ghana mourns one of its deadliest military aviation disasters in recent memory.

Majority reveals $840m COCOBOD debt over delayed deliveries during NPP tenure

Cocoa is a key export commodity for Ghana Cocoa is a key export commodity for Ghana

The Majority Caucus in Parliament has strongly defended the current cocoa producer price set by the Mahama-led administration for the 2025/2026 crop season, dismissing criticisms that farmers are being shortchanged.

Addressing journalists in Accra, Chairman of Parliament’s Economy and Development Committee, Eric Afful, explained that the government has significantly increased the Free on Board (FOB) price of cocoa from $4,850 to $7,200 per metric tonne.

This adjustment, he noted, justifies the new farmgate price of GH¢3,228 per 64-kilogram bag for cocoa farmers.

According to Afful, this upward adjustment reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring fair compensation for farmers in line with global cocoa market trends.

“The living conditions of cocoa farmers under the Mahama administration are better, especially given the current economic realities,” he stated.

In a related disclosure, the Majority Caucus revealed that the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) is currently saddled with a debt of $840 million due to delays in the delivery of 333,000 metric tonnes of cocoa to international clients for the 2023/2024 crop season.

The Caucus attributed the delay to global supply chain disruptions and adverse weather conditions that affected production volumes.

Despite this, they maintained that the government is working to honour its commitments and stabilise the cocoa sector.

The Majority’s defense follows criticism from the Minority Caucus, who argue that cocoa farmers are being underpaid despite record-high global prices.

However, the Majority insists that the pricing formula reflects economic prudence, considering factors such as exchange rate stability, inflation, and international cocoa pricing.

They also pointed to broader interventions by the government, including reintroducing free fertiliser distribution and investments in rural infrastructure, as proof of a renewed focus on improving the livelihoods of cocoa farmers.

The centre particularly acknowledged President John Dramani Mahama’s loss, describing it as both personal and national.

GRA denies indebtedness to NIA

0

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has responded to reports by the National Identification Authority (NIA) claiming that the tax agency has been disconnected from the Identity Verification Platform (IVS) due to unpaid fees.

In a statement issued by its Communication and Public Affairs Department, the GRA expressed surprise over the claims and sought to clarify its position, stressing that no formal service agreement exists between the two agencies to justify the said debt.

According to the GRA, the purported indebtedness stems from what it describes as a “legacy debt” associated with services allegedly rendered by the NIA prior to 2025.

However, GRA indicated that its internal assessment could not confirm any regulatory or governance approvals that sanctioned the transactions in question.

“The GRA’s principles of transparency, compliance, and governance protocols do not permit enforcement of transactions that do not meet regulatory requirements, particularly as demanded by the reset vision of the President and the Government,” the Authority emphasised.

Further deepening the dispute, the GRA revealed that the NIA has operated desk offices at GRA premises across the country for years without paying rent or contributing to utility costs — a gesture made in the spirit of inter-agency cooperation.

Despite the disconnection and public exchanges, GRA says high-level talks are ongoing to resolve the matter.

The Authority maintains that procedural irregularities and the lack of a formal agreement are at the heart of the issue.

While rejecting the premise of the debt, the GRA acknowledged the critical role of inter-agency collaboration, particularly in integrating the Ghana Card into the country’s tax system — a cornerstone of the government’s digital transformation agenda.

The Authority called for improved relations with the NIA and expressed hope that the matter would be resolved amicably in the interest of national development.

“GRA uses this opportunity to reassure taxpayers and the general public of its commitment and adherence to its values of fairness, integrity, responsiveness, service, and teamwork,” the statement concluded.

Civil society group questions impact of new cocoa producer price

0

The government has raised the producer price of cocoa from GH¢49,600 to GH¢51,660 per tonne,  equivalent to GH¢3,228.75 per 64-kilogramme bag, for the 2025/2026 season, a move it says will improve incomes for farmers.

Announcing the change in Accra on Monday, August 4, 2025, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson said the price represents 70 per cent of the gross Free-On-Board (FOB) value of $7,200 per tonne.

This, he noted, marks an increase from last season’s $3,100 to $5,040 per tonne, representing a 62.58 per cent rise in dollar terms.

According to Dr. Forson, the adjustment, which takes effect on August 7, is supported by a strong cedi, easing inflation, and measures aimed at shielding farmers from currency volatility.

However, reacting to the announcement, the Ghana Civil-Society Cocoa Platform (GCCP) on Tuesday, August 5, described the increase in cedi terms as modest, amounting to only 4.1 per cent.

The group said this would not be enough to address the economic challenges faced by cocoa farmers.

While noting the rise in dollar value, it argued that high input and labour costs, climate change impacts, and cross-border smuggling continue to reduce profitability.

The coalition also raised concerns about transparency in the pricing process. It said earlier assurances that farmers would receive 70 per cent of the global market price had shifted to a 70 per cent share of the lower FOB price.

The GCCP acknowledged the government’s planned input supplies and traceability system but cautioned against political interference in their distribution. It also warned that many farmers were not yet prepared for the EU’s compliance requirements.

In its statement, the GCCP urged the government to introduce mid-term price reviews to reflect world market changes and curb smuggling.

It also called for financial support to local licensed buying companies and action to address input affordability and climate resilience.

The group further asked for expanded farmer training in sustainable practices and improvements to infrastructure in cocoa-growing areas, including roads and storage facilities.

The government has set a production target of about 650,000 tonnes for the 2025/2026 season and says it will direct COCOBOD to concentrate on increasing yields and improving the welfare of farmers.

MultiChoice Ghana risks license suspension as price-cut deadline expires today

0

Multichoice Ghana, operators of DStv, is racing against time as the deadline to reduce its subscription prices or face a licence suspension nears.

Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation Minister, Samuel Nartey George, has reiterated that regulatory action will be enforced if the company fails to comply by Thursday, August 7.

The Minister’s directive follows Multichoice’s refusal to cut prices in response to the recent sharp appreciation of the Ghana cedi – a development many believe should reflect in reduced consumer costs.

Speaking to the media, Mr. George described Multichoice’s position as “out of touch” with the economic hardship facing Ghanaians.

Multichoice, in a nine-page statement, defended its pricing model, arguing that the cedi’s recent gains are not strong or sustainable enough to warrant a price cut, citing a 200% depreciation over the past eight years.

While the Minority in Parliament has called for dialogue, urging a balanced and diplomatic resolution, the Minister insists enforcement will go ahead.

Market players are watching whether Multichoice will make concessions or risk losing its broadcasting licence in one of its key African markets.

The Minority Caucus on Food, Agriculture, and Cocoa Affairs has strongly criticised the government over what it describes as an “insultingly low” cocoa farm gate price announced for the 2025/2026 cocoa season

At a press conference on Monday, the Ranking Member of the Committee, Isaac Yaw Opoku, expressed disappointment at the new farm gate price of GH₵3,228.75 per 64-kilogram bag, representing only a 4.2% increase from the previous season’s GH₵3,100.00.

He described the increment as a betrayal of Ghana’s cocoa farmers, calling it a “Sakawa price” that falls far short of expectations, especially considering the current high international market prices.

“This is a slap in the face of farmers who have sustained the economy for decades,” he stated.

The Minority also reminded the public of campaign pledges made by top NDC figures — now ministers — Eric Opoku and Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, who promised cocoa farmers GH₵6,000 and GH₵7,000 per bag, respectively, if their party won power.

The Minority Caucus questioned why those promises had not materialised and described the current pricing as a far cry from what was pledged.

The opposition questioned the rationale behind the government’s pricing model, especially in light of claims by the COCOBOD Chief Executive that Ghana’s farm gate price would exceed what Ivorian farmers currently receive.

Available data, however, indicates that farmers in Côte d’Ivoire are paid approximately GH₵3,635 per bag — nearly GH₵407 more than Ghanaian farmers — further fueling concerns about smuggling and cross-border trading.

The Minority also raised concerns about the government’s failure to deliver on President Akufo-Addo’s commitment to pay cocoa farmers 70% of the Free on Board (FOB) price.

With global cocoa prices reaching as high as $12,000 per metric ton, they argue that Ghanaian farmers should be receiving at least GH₵3,718 per bag, not the GH₵3,228.75 announced.

They demanded full transparency on cocoa revenue from the 2024/25 season and accountability for transfers and grants received since the start of 2025.

The government was also accused of repackaging essential farm inputs such as fertilisers and insecticides as “free,” when in reality, the cost is deducted from the FOB price, further shortchanging farmers.

According to the Minority, many cocoa farmers feel deceived and demoralised by the new pricing structure, with some already considering abandoning cocoa cultivation in favour of illegal mining due to the poor returns on their labour.

They urged the government to urgently review the announced price, deliver on its promises, and implement a pricing policy that truly reflects the value and contribution of Ghana’s cocoa farmers to the national economy.

“The sustainability of Ghana’s cocoa industry is at stake,” the statement concluded.

“We must act now to restore dignity, fairness, and hope to our farmers.”

Tension Boils in Awudua Over Apinto Divisional Seat Succession

Apinto Divisional Council
Apinto Divisional Council

Ghanaian RADAR can report that there is brewing tension in Awudua, a prominent historical town which is the seat of the Apinto Traditional Council in the Western Region.

Information reaching us indicate that the selection of a successor for the revered Apinto Divisional seat is mired due to violations of laid down traditional procedures.

The paper gathered that some chiefs and members of the Royal families, especially the Faibil Family where the next Apinto Chief is to be nominated from, have expressed strong reservations against the manner in which the initial processes of selection of the candidate from the Faibil Gate is being twisted in favour of one Famiyeh who was not nominated by the Faibil family.

According to some prominent chiefs, who spoke on condition of anonymity, in accordance with tradition, the Faibil Gate nominated a candidate in the person of Kwabena Damoah and provided the name to the Tufuhene to continue the traditional installation process.

They indicated that it came as a surprise to them that another name of Famiyeh had cropped up after the Faibil family had submitted Kwabena Damoah who was selected by the Faibil family through a due process of nomination.

The chiefs expressed unhappiness and worry about the spiritual repercussions of how the traditional installation processes are being steered to favour Famiyeh whose name was not presented by the Faibil family to the chiefs for the installation processes to take continue.

They expressed concern about the looming tension in Awudua and indicated that they would work hard to ensure that the right thing is done in order to avoid any conflict.

Furthermore, they gave the assurance that they would do everything possible to make sure that the truth and right procedures are adhered to so that there would be peaceful installation of the right person.

According to them the people of Awudua are peace loving people who would not allow a few people to create conflict on an issue which should be a straightforward one.

The Awudua town has a very rich history of trade relations with European gold traders. Awudua is noted for its tourist attraction due to the establishment of forts such as Fort Ruychaver.

For example, Fort Ruychaver at Awudua is a very important site for archaeological research of some universities in Ghana and abroad.

The Apinto Royal family has two Royal Gates of Faibil and Angu Gates. Nana Kwabena Angu II who was the Chief of Awudua ruled for 37 years and died on April 2022. Since there are two gates of the Awudua Royal Family, after the death of Nana Angu II, the next Chief of the Apinto Traditional Council shall be selected from the Faibil family. The Faibil family is composed of three Royal Lineages and selection to occupy the stool is made on the basis of hierarchy, character and other attributes.

A wave of shock and profound sorrow has swept through the Tamale Central Constituency following the tragic death of Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for the area.

The heartbreaking news has plunged party members, sympathisers, and the entire community into mourning, as many gathered at the party office with tear-filled eyes and broken hearts, struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss of a man they described as a “dedicated servant, a humble leader, and a champion of the people.”

Dr Murtala was among eight people aboard a military helicopter that crashed in the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday morning.

The Ghana Air Force Z9 helicopter, which departed Accra at 0912 hours en route to Obuasi, lost radar contact shortly after take-off, according to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

Other victims of the crash include Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, acting Deputy National Security Coordinator and former Minister of Food and Agriculture; Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress; and Mr Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate.

Also on board were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Amaning Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

Mourning

The NDC Tamale Central Constituency Communication Officer, Umar Abdul Razak, speaking with visible grief, described Dr Murtala’s death as a monumental loss to the entire nation.

“I believe that Murtala would be pardoned by Almighty Allah because he was a good practicing Muslim. He died on national duty,” he said.

He recounted that earlier in the day, the MP had tasked him to inform constituency elders about a planned sod-cutting ceremony for a new health facility, assuring him he would return later that evening to finalise arrangements.

He added that the MP had sent him money that morning to settle hospital bills for some party members — a final act of kindness that reflected Dr Murtala’s deep commitment to the welfare of his people.

A constituent, Mohammed Musah, lamented the tragic incident, noting that the MP was kind to all, regardless of political affiliation.

“Those who depended on him for school fees and medical bills are not few, and the question now is: who will support these people?” he asked.

Dedication

Dr Murtala, who was also the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, was widely known for his dedication to grassroots development, outspoken advocacy in Parliament, and personal generosity to his constituents.

His death has left a void in Tamale Central that many say cannot be filled.

Moments after the announcement of the incident, the Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf John, led a delegation to inform the family of the tragic demise of the late MP.

Hundreds of mourners have since thronged the family house of the late MP to commiserate with them.

The crew members who also lost their lives were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

This unfortunate incident was confirmed at an emergency press conference by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, at the Jubilee House, the seat of government of Ghana.

According to the Chief of Staff, the helicopter was en route to Obuasi when contact was lost shortly after taking off from Accra at 9:12 a.m.

Ghana doom’s prophecy for Ghana

Although the cause of the crash remains unknown and authorities have yet to confirm further details, a Ghanaian man, identified as Abeku Adams Ekumfi, seemed to have foresaw this unfortunate incident.

In a Facebook post dated July 28, 2025, he wrote that Ghana would be hit by a national tragedy on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

“On 6th August something will happen. Another thing will happen on the 9th,” he wrote.

Moments after the helicopter accident was confirmed by Ghana’s Chief of Staff, Mr. Ekumfi reshared his July 28 post, suggesting that he had some intelligence.

“The corrupt system kept us out of our purpose for which we were sent here, so our country suffers like a blind man in a dance theatre. I was sent here to be a Military General and Intelligence Chief, but when I wanted to join the Military and the Intelligence Service, they told me I needed protocol, and someone had to do me a favour. I said, ‘Over my dead body.’ If I could not enter on my own merit, then I would be a farmer. Nothing beats the freedom of independence of thought and allegiance.”

ghana news Parliament’s Select Committee engages Attorney-General, other institutions

0

The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic A. Ayine, has expressed concern about the high attrition rate at his office due to inadequate salaries and overwhelming workloads.

He revealed that a Principal State Attorney, a key prosecutor, was on the verge of leaving after submitting a resignation letter.

He added that despite his personal efforts to retain the attorney, including a heartfelt conversation to discuss potential solutions, the attorney cited financial obligations and a stark contrast in earnings compared to private practice as primary reasons for his departure.

Select committee

Dr Ayine was speaking when members of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Constitutional and Legal Affairs paid working visits to various institutions under the Ministry of Justice and Attorney General’s Department (MoJAGD) as part of its oversight responsibilities to advocate for the ministry’s needs in parliament for better reforms.

The institutions are the Attorney General’s Department, the Ghana School of Law, the Office of the Registrar of Companies and the Law Reforms Commission.

The committee was led by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Daboya/Mankarigu, Shaibu Mahama, who doubles as the chairperson of the committee.

“The salary he’s getting cannot sustain him and his family,” Dr Ayine lamented, emphasising the disparity between public service compensation and private sector opportunities.

He, therefore, urged the committee to advocate for increased funding to recruit and retain high-calibre lawyers to ensure the effective handling of complex legal cases.

“When we come knocking on the Minister of Finance’s door for salary increases, it should not be business as usual. We need to retain qualified personnel capable of facing well-resourced private sector lawyers,” he stated.

Legal education

At the Ghana School of Law, Nana Justice  Barima Yaw Kodie Oppong, a Court of Appeal judge who doubles as the Director of the professional law school, called for urgent reforms in legal education to enhance the quality and accessibility of professional training for aspiring lawyers.

He stressed the need for the school to have its own statutory framework, enabling it to offer both the Qualifying Certificate in Law (QCL) and the Bachelor of Laws (LLB) programmes independently.

The Acting Director of the Office of the Registrar of Companies, Maame Samar Peprah, also outlined challenges affecting the office’s productivity, which include the need to develop a new application for smooth operations, insolvency issues, poor security and inadequate staffing while the Law Reform Commission advocated for vehicles, stable internet and computers to enable the commission undertake its work effectively.

the key to unlocking the truth behind Ghana’s helicopter crash

0

Following the devastating military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight individuals, including two government ministers, questions are mounting over what went wrong aboard the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) aircraft, reportedly procured from China.

As the nation mourns, attention now turns to a small but vital device that may hold the answers: the black box.

What is a Black Box?

The black box is neither black nor mysterious. It is, in fact, a bright orange-coloured, crash-hardened device that records essential information during a flight. Those who are familiar with National Geographic’s Air Crash Investigation documentary would realise that the black box is very critical.

In aviation, it plays a central role in post-crash investigations, helping aviation experts understand the events that led to an accident.

Each black box comprises two key components:

  1. Flight Data Recorder (FDR): This logs critical technical data such as altitude, airspeed, engine performance, and the flight path.
  2. Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR): This captures all sounds from within the cockpit, including conversations between the pilots and other audio cues from the flight deck.

Together, these two recorders can store over 25 hours of flight metrics and two hours of audio recordings—an invaluable archive for investigators.

Why is it crucial for Ghana’s investigation?

In the wake of such a high-level and tragic incident, the black box becomes the most sought-after tool in determining the cause of the crash.

Whether the tragedy stemmed from mechanical failure, environmental conditions, or human error, the data recovered will provide investigators with an unfiltered account of the final moments of the flight.

This insight is not only essential for bringing closure to the grieving families and the nation but also for enhancing operational safety within Ghana’s military and aviation sectors.

Can it survive the crash?

Looking at the state of the burnt aircraft, are you wondering if the black box can be recovered? Yes, it can be recovered because black boxes are engineered to endure the most extreme conditions.

Moreover, it emits an underwater locator signal for 30 days to aid recovery teams in locating the device.

Is it easy to decode?

According to Air Crash Investigations, not immediately.

While recovering the black box is a critical milestone, extracting and interpreting its data is complex and time-intensive. Specialists require advanced forensic tools, and depending on the damage sustained, a full analysis may take several weeks or even months.

Nonetheless, once decoded, the findings will be instrumental in guiding Ghana’s aviation safety protocols, refining military procedures, and, most importantly, preventing future tragedies.

As Ghana reflects on this painful moment, the black box remains a symbol of both hope and accountability, a silent witness to a tragedy that demands answers and action.

In my opinion, the government should prioritise engaging competent air crash investigators to unlock what occurred and offer the needed recommendations that will make an impact in the country.

Chairman Solo outlines bold vision ahead of NCC elections

0

Aspiring National Circles Council (NCC) Chairman for Asante Kotoko, Solomon Ofosu-Ware, popularly known as Chairman Solo, has laid out an ambitious vision for the club’s supporters’ front as he campaigns for the top job ahead of the August 24 elections.

Speaking to Ghanasportspage.com, Chairman Solo emphasized that the core mandate of a supporters’ leader is to mobilize fans to fill stadiums and provide unwavering support for the team.

“The most important mandate as a supporters’ leader is to mobilize fans to go to the stadium,” he stated.

Beyond just attendance, he highlighted the broader responsibilities of the NCC leadership:

“Aside from that, help in the protection of the team – both spiritual and physical. Also, help in mobilizing funds for the team so that the leaders will have the financial backing to appoint good coaches and sign good players. That’s the only way to win trophies and bring glory to the fans.”

Chairman Solo reiterated his strong support for the Fabu Census initiative, describing it as a game-changer in securing long-term sustainability for Kotoko.

“This is why Fabu Census is dear to my heart. I’m willing to share the gospel of the initiative and get everyone on board. My aim is to get one million fans registered. This will help the team pay the players well and keep them.”

He believes competitive salaries are key to retaining talent:

“I think if a player is paid at least $4,000, that player will not be in a rush to leave and could do something significant with the money by the end of his stay at the club.”

“Maintaining the players will make us competitive in Africa and possibly win it with consistency.”

With his strong grassroots support and history of donations to the club, including 50 pairs of Nike boots and past financial support, Chairman Solo is presenting himself as a candidate who blends passion with a practical roadmap for Kotoko’s progress.

One of the most admired looks for these occasions is the timeless white lace Aso Ebi gown. Whether designed with floral patterns or geometric embroidery, this gown type accentuates the figure with grace and sophistication. When paired with a brightly colored gele (headwrap) and statement jewelry, the outfit transforms into a breathtaking ensemble that reflects both cultural pride and fashion-forward thinking.

For ladies who prefer a trendier silhouette, a lace peplum blouse paired with a fitted mermaid skirt creates a flattering, youthful appearance. The peplum design adds volume to the hips, while the skirt enhances the natural curves, creating a balanced and eye-catching shape. This combination is perfect for those who want to make a bold impression while still embracing feminine charm.

Modern white lace styles also cater to a wide range of preferences and body types. Designers now incorporate features like off-shoulder necklines, high slits, dramatic sleeves, or corset bodices to add flair without sacrificing elegance. These personalized touches allow each wearer to feel confident and unique.

To preserve the beauty of white lace, proper care is essential. Dry cleaning is often recommended to maintain the fabric’s structure and prevent yellowing. Choosing skin-toned undergarments can also enhance the final look by providing a smooth, seamless finish.

White lace remains a stunning, reliable choice for any grand celebration—combining class, cultural richness, and contemporary charm in one elegant package.

How President John Mahama escaped death in helicopter crash

President John Dramani Mahama President John Dramani Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama narrowly escaped being involved in the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed eight lives, including two cabinet ministers, on August 6, 2025.

The President was initially scheduled to attend the launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) at Black Park, near the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium in the Ashanti Region.

His image had already been used on flyers and printed materials promoting the event, heightening public anticipation for his appearance, especially as the programme formed part of the government’s fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

However, President Mahama did not attend the event. Instead, he delegated the Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, and the Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, to represent him.

The President had been invited as a special guest of honour at the 1st National Pastors and Spouses Prayer Retreat, held at the Pentecost Convention Centre in Gomoa Fetteh, Central Region, which took place on the same day.

Tragically, Dr Boamah and Dr Murtala, along with six others, died when the Z9 military helicopter they were flying in crashed en route to the rCOMSDEP launch.

The incident has sparked widespread public debate and speculation, with many suggesting that President Mahama could have been aboard the doomed aircraft had he not been engaged elsewhere.

Observers argue that as the headline guest for the mining programme, the President was likely to travel in the same military helicopter.

In addition to the two ministers, the crash also claimed the lives of Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Samuel Sarpong, former Central Regional Minister, and Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate.

The helicopter crew members who perished in the crash were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Malin Twum-Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

The devastating crash has plunged the nation into mourning, with President Mahama declaring three days of national mourning and ordering all flags to be flown at half-mast.

KWAM 1 pushes back as FAAN probes airport incident

0

Renowned Fuji musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1, has pushed back against allegations surrounding an incident at the Abuja airport, as the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has launched a probe into the matter.

On Wednesday, FAAN announced that it had launched an investigation into an incident involving Ayinde Marshal concerning an alleged violation of airport security rules at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. FAAN said the altercation occurred on Monday, August 5, 2025, during boarding procedures for a ValueJet Airlines flight (Flight VK 201) headed to Lagos.

According to a statement signed by Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, FAAN, Obiageli Orah, “Preliminary investigations confirmed that the passenger was scheduled to board the morning flight to Lagos operated by ValueJet Airlines (Flight VK 201).

During boarding, the passenger attempted to carry an unidentified liquid substance on board despite repeated warnings from Aviation Security personnel and the flight captain.”

FAAN clarified that the musician attempted to board the aircraft carrying a flask containing liquid, violating aviation security regulations that prohibit liquids exceeding 100ml in hand luggage.

“In accordance with international aviation security standards, specifically, Nigeria’s National Civil Aviation Security Programme and ICAO Annex 17, liquids exceeding 100ml are not permitted through security screening unless medically necessary and properly declared. The passenger was informed of this regulation but reportedly declined to comply,” the statement read.

Tensions reportedly escalated when the musician refused to step aside for further checks. “As the boarding continued, an airline security officer asked the passenger to step aside for further clarification. The passenger allegedly refused and spilled the contents of the flask on the officer, which turned out to be alcohol. The flight captain intervened but faced similar resistance. After confirming that boarding was complete, she instructed the closure of the aircraft door,” FAAN added.

The situation intensified when the musician moved to the front of the aircraft and refused to vacate the area despite repeated requests from airline personnel. “He was ultimately escorted away by the AVSEC crime unit for further investigation, after which he was released,” the statement noted.

FAAN condemned the disruption and emphasised that the matter remains under thorough investigation. “FAAN reiterates its unwavering commitment to the safety and security of all passengers, crew, and airport personnel. The Authority will not tolerate any action that compromises operational integrity or undermines aviation safety standards, regardless of the individuals involved,” it stated.

The agency assured the public that all parties found culpable will be held accountable according to the law. “FAAN is dedicated to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, safety, and regulatory compliance across all Nigerian airports,” the statement concluded.

KWAM 1 reacts

In a statement issued by the Media Aide to K1 De Ultimate (KWAM 1), Kunle Rasheed, it was stated that the claims of FAAN were misleading.

The statement read, “Our attention has been drawn to reports alleging that King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (K1 De Ultimate) displayed unruly conduct while attempting to board a ValueJet flight on August 5, 2025, allegedly causing a breach of aviation protocol. We wish to categorically state that this narrative is not only exaggerated but also misleading.

“At no point did K1 act in a manner that endangered lives or breached safety regulations. The substance in question — which was wrongly sensationalized — was nothing more than plain drinking water, given to him at the airport lounge while he waited to board the aircraft. Despite his respectful effort to clarify this, the situation was unnecessarily escalated.

“Claims that K1 blocked the aircraft or attempted to disrupt operations are completely unfounded. The veteran artiste, who is globally respected and frequently travels both locally and internationally, understands and strictly adheres to aviation protocols.

“If indeed there had been anything inappropriate in his conduct, the Head of Airport Security, officials from relevant agencies such as FAAN and NCAA, as well as the Chairman and Managing Director of the airline, would not have reached out personally to appeal, tender apologies, and even go as far as arranging a private jet to fly him to Lagos — at no cost. Despite persistent persuasion from the airline’s top executives, K1 graciously declined the offer.”

The statement emphasised that K1 was the victim in this incident, stressing, “No one else but him and his personal assistant was directly involved. A few concerned passengers who witnessed the incident firsthand appealed to him to remain calm, recognizing the undue pressure he was under.”

It added that “in light of recent developments, it is important to note that the pilot involved now has her license suspended. Given the circumstances, it is no surprise if she attempts to deflect blame — surely, she must lie to cover herself up.

“We urge the media and the public to avoid sensationalism and allow the truth — not assumptions — to guide their judgment. K1 remains a law-abiding citizen and continues to cooperate fully with all relevant authorities to ensure that the matter is responsibly resolved.”

Breastfeeding boosts IQ, cuts cancer risk – Health practitioner

0

Mothers must not give in to modern-day pressures and deny their babies breast milk, since doing so can affect the child’s growth and overall wellbeing, a health practitioner, Ms Wilhemina Minnow, has mentioned.

“Breast milk is nature’s perfect food, containing all the nutrients a baby needs for healthy growth and development, as well as antibodies that protect against infections and reduce the risk of diseases like diarrhoea, respiratory illnesses, asthma and obesity later in life,” she stated.

Speaking in an interview with The Ghanaian Times yesterday to mark this year’s World Breastfeeding Week, celebrated in the first week of August, Ms Minnow said mothers must be encouraged to give their babies only breast milk for the first six months without water, formula or solid foods.

“It’s like giving your baby their first vaccine,” she explained, adding that the early milk, colostrum, is rich in immune-boosting substances that build a strong foundation for the baby’s health.

Ms Minnow further stressed that breast milk also promotes healthy gut bacteria, essential for immunity, and contains fatty acids that help brain development, contributing to higher IQ and academic performance later in life.

Beyond the child’s wellbeing, she said exclusive breastfeeding benefits the mother too. “It helps the womb return to its normal size after birth, reduces bleeding, lowers the risk of breast and ovarian cancers, and even burns calories to support weight loss.”

On the mental side, Ms Minnow noted that breastfeeding releases hormones like oxytocin and prolactin, which help mothers bond with their babies and reduce the risk of postpartum depression.

She debunked common myths that some mothers did not produce enough milk, saying that true milk insufficiency is rare. “Most cases are due to infrequent breastfeeding, poor latching, anxiety, or wrong perceptions. Frequent breastfeeding on demand is key to maintaining a healthy milk supply,” she advised.

Touching on the pressure many urban mothers face to switch to formula, Ms Minnow urged women to stand firm and seek support. “No formula can match breast milk. Build a support system, know your rights, and plan ahead for work,” she urged, calling for better workplace policies such as breastfeeding breaks and private spaces.

She advocated national measures, including longer maternity leave, stricter control of formula marketing, community education, and training of health workers to better support breastfeeding mothers.

“Breastfeeding is not just a mother’s job, it’s a public health investment,” she concluded.

Watch Lands minister’s reaction upon hearing of helicopter crash involving ministers

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, was visibly shaken after receiving news of the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight individuals, including the Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, and the Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.

The incident occurred on August 6, 2025.

Armah-Kofi Buah was already seated at the launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP).

The event was held at Black Park, near the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium in the Ashanti Region. Ironically, the two late ministers were en route to this very event as special guests.

During the programme, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, and other dignitaries were captured observing the national anthem while awaiting the arrival of the two ministers.

Unbeknownst to many at the venue, news of the crash had already broken.

Dr Amoakohene, who appeared to have already received the news, waited until after the national anthem before quietly approaching Armah-Kofi Buah.

He was then seen whispering the tragic news to the lands minister.

Video footage showed a visibly awestruck Armah-Kofi Buah, his body jolted, mouth agape in shock.

He appeared confused and shaken by the revelation.

Moments later, he was seen pulling out his phone, seemingly to verify the tragic news for himself.

The crash of the Z9 helicopter, which belonged to the Ghana Armed Forces, also claimed the lives of Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna; former Central Regional Minister, Samuel Sarpong and Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate.

Members of the helicopter’s crew are Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Malin Twum-Ampadu and Sgt. Ernest Addo Mensah.
