GHANA’S UNDER-20 national team, the Black Satellites, will begin residential camping at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram today as part of preparations for the maiden edition of the WAFU U-20 Cup of Nations.

The regional tournament, scheduled from June 15 to June 30, will feature top youth teams from across West Africa. It marks a key milestone in the development of youth football in the sub-region.

The technical team, led by head coach Desmond Ofei, has assembled a strong squad that includes players who represented Ghana at the 2025 TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, as well as several exciting new talents.

This blend of experience and emerging potential is expected to give Ghana a competitive edge at the tournament. The Prampram camp will focus on team cohesion, tactical drills, and fitness ahead of the competition.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has expressed confidence in the team’s ability to perform, highlighting its ongoing commitment to nurturing national talent across all age categories. Officials believe the WAFU Cup offers a crucial platform to assess and develop players for future continental and global assignments.

With preparations in full swing, the Black Satellites are poised to make a strong impression and continue Ghana’s legacy of excellence in youth football.

SHARE project making positive change in adolescents – research findings

0

By Anthony Adongo Apubeo

Bolgatanga, May 26, GNA – The implementation of the Sexual Health and Reproductive Education (SHARE) project in some districts in the Upper East Region, is making progress in promoting adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights.

A midterm evaluation of the five-year project (2021-2026) in beneficiary districts revealed increased adolescents’ access to accurate information regarding their sexuality which was helping them to make informed decisions to avoid risky behaviour.

These came to light during dissemination of findings of research in Navrongo ,conducted by Professor Duah Dwomoh, of the D&D Statistical Consulting Services Limited, the Consultant for the research.

Implemented by consortium led by Right To Play in partnership with WaterAid Ghana, Forum for African Women Educationalists Ghana (FAWE-Ghana) and FHI 360, with finding support

from the Global Affairs Canada, the project is being rolled in the Builsa North and Kassena-Nankana Municipalities, Kassena-Nankana West, and Bongo districts.

The project targets in- and out-of-school adolescents across the four districts, with the goal of empowering youth through SRHR education, gender equality initiatives, and access to youth-friendly services.

The findings revealed increase in the active participation of adolescent girls and young women in SRHR advocacy and social action initiatives, highlighting the growing confidence and leadership among young women.

“I know my rights and can speak up now,” said one adolescent girl during a focus group discussion, capturing the transformative effect the project has had on self-confidence and empowerment”, Professor Dwomoh stated.

The project’s integration of life skills training, such as menstrual pad-making, and gender-sensitive programming has helped to reduce stigma and fostering supportive environments in both schools and health facilities according to the findings.

The findings further revealed positive trend in community participation, with more caregivers and stakeholders attending SRHR-focused forums, indicating growing acceptance and openness around adolescent reproductive health topics, which had traditionally been taboo in many parts of Ghana.

Additionally, adolescents reported improved communication with parents on SRHR issues and demonstrated better negotiation skills in relationships, further contributing to their autonomy and safety.

The findings revealed that training of community health workers, teachers, and facility staff, as well as the establishment of peer-led youth clubs and advocacy networks, were already proving to be effective in sustaining SRHR engagement even beyond the project’s direct intervention.

Continued investment, community collaboration, and youth empowerment and inclusive campaigns to reduce stigma and increased awareness to enhance the outcomes and ensure lasting change are among recommendations of the findings

Mr Evans Sinkari, Program Director, Right To Play, said the findings suggested that the project was making some progress and the inputs and recommendations from the stakeholders would be taken into consideration to strengthen implementation for lasting change.

Ms Rita Abamah, Bongo District Girl Child Officer, said apart from preaching abstinence, there was the urgent need for increased concerted efforts to ensure that the adolescents were abreast with the use of contraceptives particularly condoms to prevent pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases including HIV/AIDS.

Agradaa, husband discard court documents during first appearance

Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, also known as Agradaa Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, also known as Agradaa

A video of Evangelist Patricia Asiedua (Nana Agradaa), appearing in court amid her legal tussle with Empress Gifty has sparked a barrage of reactions on social media.

One would recall that on May 20, 2025, gospel musician Empress Gifty filed a GH₵20 million defamation lawsuit against Agradaa at the Tema High Court for allegedly making defamatory statements against her.

Following the lawsuit, Agradaa took to social media to mock the lawsuit, saying, “Any idiot can go to court,” in a post that drew massive reactions.

But in a couple of days after, a video has gone viral showing Agradaa’s first appearance at the Tema High Court. She was seen dressed in an all-white outfit, accompanied by her husband, who wore a navy blue suit.

The couple was captured exiting the court premises after being served with the writ of summons.

What has drawn the most attention, however, is the moment Agradaa and her husband were seen allegedly throwing the court documents, the writ of summons, onto the ground as they left the courthouse.

The act has stirred massive reactions online, with many netizens calling on the judiciary to take disciplinary action against the couple for what some describe as a show of disrespect to the court.

GWL warns residents to evacuate immediately to avert disaster

0

The Communications Director of Ghana Water Limited (GWL), Stanley Martey, has cautioned residents in downstream communities to evacuate immediately to avoid disaster following a controlled spillage of excess water from the Weija Dam.

In an interview on Joy FM, monitored by GhanaWeb on Monday, May 26, 2025, he stressed the need for affected residents to prioritise safety and heed evacuation advice as water levels continue to rise.

“As of this morning, the water level is around 45 feet. We have already opened two spill gates, each at six inches. However, if by midnight we observe more inflows pushing the level beyond 47 feet, we will be forced to open all three spill gates immediately. So please evacuate,” he warned.

Stanley Martey noted that engagements have already been held with local landlords’ associations to highlight the urgency of the situation.

“We have spoken to the Landlords’ Association. Everyone must ensure there are no structures in unauthorised areas. Even if you believe your home is on safe ground, your neighbour’s negligence can still put your life and property at risk. So never assume you are safe when others around you act irresponsibly,” he said.

Ghana Water Company has begun the controlled spillage of the Weija Dam due to rising water levels caused by the onset of the rains.

Some communities at risk include Tetegu, Oblogo, Lower McCarthy Hill, Lower Weija, and Panbros Salt.

NDPC, Korean team brief Buffer Stock CEO on $9.5m agribusiness project

0

The visit aimed to brief the NAFCO boss on a new five-year agriculture intervention project The visit aimed to brief the NAFCO boss on a new five-year agriculture intervention project

A joint team from the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) and the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has held discussions with the Chief Executive Officer of the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) in Accra.

The visit aimed to brief the NAFCO boss on a new five-year agriculture intervention project dubbed “Strengthening of Agribusiness Value Chain for Local Economic Development in Ghana.”

The project, which begins this year in the Central and Volta Regions, seeks to increase the average income of farmers and create jobs in the targeted areas by enhancing the agribusiness value chain.

Valued at US$ 9.5 million, the initiative is being financed by the Korean government with counterpart support from the Government of Ghana. It focuses on three widely consumed vegetables, tomatoes, onions, and peppers, with the goal of increasing self-sufficiency rates by 2029, when the project ends.

The Chief Executive Officer of NAFCO, George Abradu-Otoo, told the visiting team that the government is taking urgent steps to reduce and ultimately curb what he described as the worrying phenomenon of post-harvest losses experienced by farmers across the country.

Sharing some startling statistics, Abradu-Otoo revealed that in some cases, as much as 60% of harvested crops are lost, leading to significant financial setbacks for farmers.

Post-harvest losses in Ghana are a major challenge, estimated to cost the country approximately US$ 1.9 billion annually. These losses occur at various points along the value chain, from harvest to consumption, and are attributed to poor post-harvest handling, inadequate storage, and lack of infrastructure. Estimates suggest that losses can range from 20% to 50% of total production.

Abradu-Otoo cited various causes of increasing post-harvest losses, including on-farm inefficiencies such as improper threshing, winnowing, and drying of grains. Other contributing factors include poor harvesting timing, adverse climatic conditions, improper handling practices, and market access challenges.

He noted that the government is addressing these issues under the Feed Ghana Programme and commended the Korean government for its longstanding support to Ghana.

According to him, any substantial reduction in post-harvest losses would contribute to price stability and help reduce inflation as the government works to reset the broader economy.

An official from the NDPC, Richard Tweneboah Kodua, stated that the project seeks to complement the government’s flagship agricultural intervention, the Feed Ghana Programme, and to consolidate national development gains.

The Deputy Country Director of KOICA, Eunsoo Oh, added that the project will introduce new technologies, improved seed varieties, and expert knowledge to enhance local farming, harvesting, and processing of the targeted crops.

‘It is obvious’ – Dame confirms being Wontumi’s lawyer after Appiah-Kubi reportedly pulled out

Former Attorney General Godfred Dame was captured at the CID head office with Wontumi on Monday

Former Attorney General Godfred Dame has confirmed that he is the lead legal representative for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, who is currently under investigation by the police.

Dame was seen accompanying Chairman Wontumi when he arrived at the headquarters of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service in Accra on Monday, May 26, 2025.

When asked whether he was representing the NPP regional chairman, whose home was raided by national security operatives on Friday, May 23, Dame responded, “It is obvious.”

The former Attorney General declined to comment further on the case against his client, stating, “No comment, we haven’t started yet.”

According to Channel One TV, Dame assumed the legal representation after Wontumi’s initial lawyer, Andy Appiah-Kubi, stepped aside.

Prior to Dame’s arrival at the CID headquarters, Appiah-Kubi was seen there preparing for Wontumi’s arrival and told the media he was handling preliminary formalities. However, when Wontumi showed up, it was Dame who led him into the CID office.

While Chairman Wontumi has not been formally charged, a report by Channel One TV claims that the raid on his residence was connected to a GH¢50 million payment made by the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) in the final days of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration.

The report further alleges that the payment was made to Hallmark Civil Engineering, a company owned by Wontumi, despite a directive from then-Chief of Staff Julius Debrah to suspend contract payments during the transition period.

I’m committed to backing Ghana’s future MCC eligibility

0

The outgoing United States Ambassador to Ghana, Virginia Palmer, has reiterated her commitment to supporting Ghana’s eligibility for a future Millennium Challenge Compact (MCC), should one become available.

In a yet-to-be-aired interview with Bernard Avle on Channel One TV’s The Point of View, Ambassador Palmer reflected on past challenges with the second MCC Compact and voiced her personal disappointment over the cancellation of more than $190 million due to implementation setbacks.

“I told former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo that I would work with him to see if we could get another compact. Because there were some missteps on the second compact, and we had to cancel a 190 million dollars,” she said.

“To my personal disappointment and the disappointment of the Millennium Challenge Compact… Right now, we don’t know what form the Compact will take.”

Despite the uncertainty surrounding a potential new compact, Ambassador Palmer reaffirmed her dedication to Ghana’s future participation.

“I remain committed to helping Ghana if a new Compact becomes available, to helping Ghana become eligible.”

She commended Ghana’s performance in key areas such as governance and anti-corruption—important criteria for MCC eligibility—but stressed that reforming the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) must be a priority.

“The true factors that are essential to eligibility or passing a scorecard are governing well on behalf of your people, which Ghana does, maintaining a certain score on anti-corruption, which Ghana does, and it’s important to keep that up. And also to demonstrate that the last Compact was successful,” she said.

Highlighting the urgency of action within ECG, Ambassador Palmer warned that the utility provider’s mounting losses threaten both the country’s economic health and its eligibility for international support.

“A key element is the financial viability of the ECG, because the ECG is bleeding, and it’s bleeding more than we thought. There are losses either at the electricity poles or in the counting rooms that are enormous.”

She emphasized that reforms at ECG are not only vital for MCC considerations but for Ghana’s long-term economic and energy stability.

“Reforms of ECG are going to be good for the Ghanaian economy, not just an incentive for the Compact. It puts the country in a position to benefit from whatever assistance is available.

Ambassador Palmer concluded by stressing the need for sustainable, long-term solutions to Ghana’s energy challenges as intermittent power supply continues to affect the country.

Judge orders full disclosure before plea deal in Adu Boahene trial

0

Justice John Nyadu Nyante, the presiding judge in the trial of former National Signals Bureau (NSB) Director Kwabena Adu Boahene, has ruled that any discussions regarding a plea bargain can only proceed after full disclosures have been filed and served on the defense.

This directive came after the prosecution requested additional time to submit the necessary documents.

Deputy Attorney General Dr. Justice Srem-Sai informed the court that the delay was due to the unavailability of a key investigator who had been unwell.

He assured the court, however, that the investigator would be available by Friday, May 30, 2025.

Following this assurance, the court ordered that all disclosures must be filed by Monday, June 2, 2025.

While the judge did not publicly explain the reasoning behind the directive, it followed a private sidebar meeting involving Justice Nyante, Dr. Srem-Sai, and defense lawyer Samuel Atta Akyea. The meeting was held at the request of the Deputy Attorney General.

The case has been adjourned to June 11 for a case management conference.

The commander emphasised the importance of community cooperation in the ongoing nationwide crackdown on drugs and arms, calling on the public to remain vigilant and to report suspicious activities.

Social media feels like a marketplace – Tulenkey

Tulenkey has stated that he limits his time on social media Tulenkey has stated that he limits his time on social media

Ghanaian rapper Tulenkey has stated that he limits his time on social media because it disrupts his focus and peace of mind.

In an interview on Hitz FM, the “Proud Fvck Boys” hitmaker said social media platforms can be overwhelming, especially when notifications keep pulling attention away from important tasks.

“Imagine being at work and a notification pops up, maybe from someone trying to distract you. Most people have all their alerts on, and that’s a big part of the problem. WhatsApp should be like email; you open it when you’re ready, not because your phone buzzed,” he said.

Tulenkey explained that once a person checks their phone, it can take about seven minutes to fully regain focus. This interruption, he noted, reduces concentration and leads to time being wasted.

To manage this, he mentioned that he has turned off all app notifications on his phone and relies heavily on the “Do Not Disturb” feature, especially in the mornings.

“When I wake up, my phone stays on ‘Do Not Disturb’ until noon because that’s when I get most of my work done,” he shared.

The rapper also described how social media can feel chaotic, likening it to stepping into a noisy market when one has just come from a quiet place.

“There’s always something going on. It’s too much. If you’ve been calm and focused, and then you open social media, it hits you like entering a marketplace. We’re used to that constant rush, even when we’re in the washroom, we’re scrolling. Our minds never get a break,” he added.

Abuakwa South MP leads landmark study on obesity intervention gaps in Sub-Saharan Africa

0

Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Dr Kingsley Agyemang Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Dr Kingsley Agyemang

The Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Dr Kingsley Agyemang, who is also a public health lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has led a landmark international study exposing critical gaps in obesity intervention research across sub-Saharan Africa (SSA).

The study, titled “Effectiveness of Obesity Interventions in Sub-Saharan Africa: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses,” was recently published in PLOS ONE, a high-impact, peer-reviewed journal.

This comprehensive review and meta-analysis screened over 419,000 academic records, with only seven studies from South Africa meeting the inclusion criteria.

It found that structured physical activity, particularly aerobic and resistance training, reduced overweight and obesity rates by about 34%.

However, these interventions showed no statistically significant impact on waist circumference, a key measure of abdominal obesity.

Dr Agyemang emphasised the narrow geographical scope of the data.

“The fact that all qualifying studies came from one country tells us how far we still need to go. Most of sub-Saharan Africa is operating in a research vacuum when it comes to tackling obesity,” he noted.

He stressed the need for locally relevant solutions to address the obesity challenge.

“Sub-Saharan Africa is battling an obesity epidemic, but without the evidence base to guide interventions. We need solutions that are culturally appropriate and grounded in local realities,” he added.

Professor Peter Agyei-Baffour, Dean of the School of Public Health at KNUST, acknowledged the research as a cutting-edge contribution and highlighted its broader public health implications.

“With obesity threatening both health outcomes and economic development in SSA, we cannot continue relying on borrowed models. This study is a vital step toward building our own evidence base,” he stated.

BoG dismisses speculation of ‘engineered’ appreciation

0

Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson Asiama Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson Asiama

The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson Asiama, has revealed that the cedi’s recent 24.1% appreciation against the US dollar is entirely market-driven, dismissing speculation that the Bank intervened.

According to him, claims that the Bank of Ghana is engineering the cedi’s appreciation or supporting it with international reserves are completely false.

Speaking at the 9th Ghana CEO Summit on Monday, May 26, 2025, Dr Asiama attributed the appreciation to a combination of disciplined monetary policy, targeted foreign exchange auction reforms, enhanced remittance channels, and stricter market surveillance.

“Our cedi has appreciated by 24.1% against the US dollar on a year-to-date basis. Now, colleagues, let me emphasise that the central bank is not—and the ‘not’ is in capital letters, using its international reserves to support the cedi. Nor are we engineering an appreciation in the cedi that would be unsustainable,” he stated.

Despite setbacks linked to the government’s broader efforts to stabilise the economy, the Governor stressed that the measures implemented by the central bank are not short-term fixes but long-term structural reforms aimed at maintaining stability in the foreign exchange market.

“It’s all market-driven, and the strengthening of the currency reflects a blend of disciplined monetary policy, tailored foreign exchange auction reforms, enhanced remittance channels, and stricter market surveillance. These are not mere short-term interventions,” he explained.

Dr Asiama’s remarks come amid ongoing discussions about the cedi’s strong performance in 2025, with financial analysts urging robust policies to prevent further depreciation in the final quarter of the year.

The trio departed Ghana on Friday night ahead of the maiden edition of the friendly tournament, which kicks off later this month.

Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, who made his senior debut during Ghana’s victories in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in March, has continued to impress. He traveled to London shortly after helping his club to a 3-1 win in domestic action.

Nations FC defender Razak Simpson, a key figure in his team’s title charge, will miss their vital clash against Samartex due to international commitments. Ghana will begin their Unity Cup campaign with a high-profile clash against Nigeria on May 28 at the Gtech Community Stadium, home of English Premier League side Brentford. The losing side will feature in a third-place playoff, while the winner advances to the final on May 31.

Safian Osman mirrors father’s feats with promotion win for Hohoe United

Abu Safian Osman (L) and his son Safian Osman Zaid (R) Abu Safian Osman (L) and his son Safian Osman Zaid (R)

Thirty years ago, Abu Safian Osman captained Hohoe United to Ghana’s Division One League, earning a place in the country’s second-tier competition.

Fast forward to 2025, and history has remarkably repeated itself, only this time through his son, Safian Osman Zaid.

The younger Osman, now captain of Hohoe United Football Club (HUFC), has led the club into the Ghana Premier League for the first time in its rebranded history, achieving a historic promotion that has brought pride and joy to the Volta Region.

On Sunday, May 25, 2025, HUFC sealed their place in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League with a convincing 3-1 victory over Inter Allies at the Hohoe Stadium.

Goals from Anass Ganiu, Faruk Mohammed, and captain Safian Osman secured the decisive win that crowned them champions of the Division One League Zone Three.

Founded in 2023 after Liberty Professionals officially withdrew from competitive football, Hohoe United emerged under a new leadership structure spearheaded by John-Peter Amewu.

The new administration acquired Liberty’s Division One League slot, with the Ghana Football Association approving the transition.

This move saw HUFC inherit Liberty’s rights, obligations, and position in the league, but with a renewed focus and community spirit.

In just two years, the team has gone from formation to top-flight promotion, a remarkable achievement in Ghanaian football.

Their 3-1 win against Inter Allies marked their 22nd victory in 29 games, underlining a season built on tactical discipline, consistent performances, and attacking flair.

Captain Safian Osman’s leadership has not only been pivotal on the pitch but also symbolic. Wearing the armband once held by his father in the 1990s, Osman has carried the weight of legacy and turned it into triumph.

His goal in the final match served as both a personal milestone and a moment of poetic justice, finishing the job his father started, but this time, elevating the team to Ghana’s elite level.

From father to son, Hohoe United’s rise to the Premier League is more than just a footballing success story, it is a generational legacy fulfilled and a moment of pride for the people of Hohoe and the entire Volta Region.

Unemployed allied health professionals threaten protest over delayed postings

0

The Coalition of Unemployed Allied Health Professionals (COUAHP) has threatened a nationwide demonstration if their concerns are neglected and not given the due employment they deserve.

According to the health professionals, their financial, emotional and psychological needs continue to worsen as they have remained at home without employment since 2019 after graduating from various accredited training institutions and following through with all due processes.

Addressing a press conference in Kumasi on Monday, May 26, Hussein Abdul Baaki, PRO for the Coalition, highlighted that they will not hesitate to hit the streets to press home their demands and their right to employment in subsequent days if they are not given clearance and posting as required.

According to him, several petitions to relevant stakeholders have yielded no results, a further indication of neglect.
They decry that since the current government has highlighted provisions of the needs of the youth as a priority, they look forward to an intervention since they are part of the youthful population.

“Continued neglect of our plight is a threat to public health, social stability and the future of health professions in Ghana. If no decisive action is taken to address these issues, we will embark on a massive nationwide demonstration to demand our right to employment, fairness and dignity,” he said.

The PRO also called for a retraction of a comment by MP for Garu in the Upper East Region, Thomas Anabah, who they said has downplayed the legitimate concerns of unemployed Allied Health Professionals, many of whom have been waiting for posting since 2019.

Presidency and key ministries exempted from electricity bill payments

0

The government has approved a policy exempting selected strategic institutions from paying electricity bills, following a cabinet meeting chaired by President John Dramani Mahama.

The initiative is designed to ensure uninterrupted operations of essential national services, particularly in the security, health, and education sectors.

Announcing the decision, Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, said, “The policy is intended to enhance accountability in energy consumption while safeguarding the operational resilience of critical government institutions.”

He explained that the Ministry of Finance will absorb electricity costs for the listed institutions through their approved budgetary allocations.

The exemption applies to the Office of the President, the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Education.

Mr Jinapor clarified that only core operational units would benefit from the exemption.

“This does not include auxiliary and non-essential facilities,” he emphasised.

In the education sector, only classrooms, universities, laboratories, lecture halls, and research facilities are covered, excluding dormitories and recreational spaces.

For health, the exemption includes hospitals, theatres, blood banks, laboratories, and wards, but not staff residences.

In the defence sector, it is limited to installations such as military intelligence and emergency systems.

Within the interior ministry, it covers police and emergency response units alone.

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) have been tasked with stepping up revenue collection from non-exempt institutions.

They have also been authorised to disconnect electricity from any such entity with unpaid bills.

Mr Jinapor added, “This measure reflects our commitment to financial discipline in the energy sector and our responsibility to ensure a stable power supply for all Ghanaians.”

Ghana Embassy in DC shut over visa and passport fees scandal

Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa – Minister of Foreign Affairs

The Ghana Embassy in Washington DC, has been ordered shut immediately and all employees recalled to Ghana following a scandal that has hit the mission.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced the drastic decision on his Facebook page Monday morning. He said an employee of the mission working in the IT department had diverted visa and passport fees payment to a private account, and that had been going on for five years.

He also announced the immediate dismissal of the employee involved – one Fred Kwarteng and dissolution of the IT department.

The Minister who said the decision to shut the Embassy has the full backing of the President John Mahama, indicated that the act was discovered by a special audit team tasked with auditing the mission to investigate alleged corruption.

According to the Minister, Kwarteng was a local staff recruited on August 11, 2017 to work in the embassy’s IT department.

“According to findings and his own admission, he created an unauthorized link on the embassy’s website which diverted visa and passport applicants to his company, Ghana Travel Consultants (GTC) where he charged extra for multiple services on the blind side of the ministry and kept the entire proceeds in his private account.

His illegal extra charges which were not approved by the ministry and parliament as required under the Fees and Charges Act ranges from $29.75 to $60 per applicant. The Investigations reveal that he and his collaborators operated this illegal scheme for at least five years,” the Minister wrote.

He also stated that the conduct has been reported to the Attorney-General for possible prosecution and retrieval of funds obtained through fraudulent schemes.

The Minister further announced that all locally recruited staff at the embassy have been suspended, and the Auditor-General invited to conduct forensic examination of all transactions and to determine the total cost of the elaborate fraudulent scheme.

As a result, he announced a closure of the Ghana embassy in Washington DC for a few days from today Monday May 26, until the ongoing restructuring and systems overhaul are finalised.

Leave the pavements! – Prophet Kofi Oduro lambasts traders amid AMA decongestion exercise

General Overseer of Alabaster International Ministries, Prophet Kofi Oduro General Overseer of Alabaster International Ministries, Prophet Kofi Oduro

The General Overseer of Alabaster International Ministries, Prophet Kofi Oduro, has strongly criticised traders who continue to conduct business on pavements despite the Accra Metropolitan Assembly’s ongoing decongestion exercise.

In a video shared on X on May 25, 2025, Prophet Oduro, while ministering to his congregation, called for strict adherence to the AMA’s directives and urged traders to vacate unauthorised spaces.

He emphasised that the justifications given by traders for defying the directive are baseless and unacceptable.

“Because their brains aren’t working, they’re driven off in the morning, and by evening, they’re back conducting business. Such people need to stop misbehaving.

“If this were happening in developed countries, would you still want to travel there? I’m speaking to all traders: leave the streets. Stop making lame excuses,” he stated.

Prophet Oduro also expressed concern over the rampant noise pollution in the country, particularly blaming commercial drivers.

“There’s a place in the United Kingdom where if you blow your horn, you could be arrested. But here in Ghana, drivers use horns to call passengers. Let’s stop this nonsense,” he added.

One would recall that the AMA recently launched a city-wide decongestion operation targeting areas such as the Kaneshie footbridges, Kwame Nkrumah Circle, and other high-traffic locations.

The initiative aims to reclaim public spaces, improve sanitation, and prevent the unlawful occupation of key infrastructure.

Professor Ameyaw-Akumfi was able to meet his bail condition of providing two sureties for his GH¢10 million bail after New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Agyapong, “stepped in”.

According to GHOne TV, “Kennedy Agyapong steps in as surety for Professor Ameyaw-Akumfi.”

A video shared by the media outlet showed Ken Agyapong arriving at the premises of the High Court in Accra with a brown envelope.

After alighting from his vehicle, Ken Agyapong, who is a former Member of Parliament for the Assin Central Constituency, is seen briskly walking into the court.

Minutes after entering, the former legislator could be seen walking out of the courtroom.

President Mahama urges businesses to reflect cedi gains in prices

0

President John Dramani Mahama President John Dramani Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has urged businesses to reflect the recent appreciation of the cedi in their pricing structures, calling for broader private sector support to ease cost pressures on consumers amid signs of macroeconomic stability.

Speaking at the 9th Ghana CEO Summit on Monday, May 26, 2025, President Mahama reiterated his government’s commitment to fiscal prudence, describing price adjustments as a necessary complement to efforts aimed at consolidating economic recovery.

“I commend all businesses that have acted in good faith by lowering prices in line with the cedi’s performance. This gesture helps ease the financial burden on citizens and demonstrates true partnership in national development,” he said.

The President also praised the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) for reducing transport fares, describing the move as both timely and socially responsive.

The cedi has appreciated against major currencies in recent weeks, driven by tighter monetary policy, improved foreign exchange inflows, and growing market confidence.

He further emphasised that the private sector remains a critical partner in ensuring that the benefits of macroeconomic stability reach a wider audience.

“On the government’s part, I assure you of continued fiscal discipline and a commitment to creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive,” he added.

Watch how tensions erupted after Simba spotted a ‘guest’ in officials’ room

Management of Simba confronting the officials after the game Management of Simba confronting the officials after the game

The CAF Confederation Cup final ended in controversy and chaos on Sunday, May 25, 2025, as Tanzanian giants Simba SC were left fuming after their 3-1 aggregate loss to Moroccan side RS Berkane.

The second leg, played in Zanzibar, was marred by officiating disputes, red cards, and post-match drama that could trigger CAF sanctions.

Simba entered the return leg needing to overturn a 2-0 first-leg deficit suffered in Morocco.

Early signs were promising, with Joshua Mutale firing the hosts ahead in the 17th minute to ignite hopes of a comeback.

But things took a sharp turn in the 50th minute when Yusuf Kagoma received a second yellow card, leaving Simba a man down.

The match reached boiling point when a Steve Mukwala goal, which would have tied the aggregate score at 2-2, was ruled out by VAR.

That moment sent tensions soaring among Simba’s players, officials, and supporters.

The final nail in the coffin came deep into stoppage time, when Berkane’s Sidibé Soumaila equalised on the night to seal a 3-1 aggregate win for the Moroccans.

After the final whistle, frustrations boiled over. Videos circulating online show Simba’s management visibly furious after allegedly discovering that match officials had a “guest” inside their room.

The footage sparked questions about potential interference or misconduct, prompting widespread concern about the integrity of the officiating.

Security personnel were forced to intervene as emotions ran high, both on the pitch and behind the scenes.

CAF have opened investigations into several incidents during the Confederation Cup final, including RS Berkane’s delayed reception at the Zanzibar airport, and indiscipline shown by Simba’s technical team.

Inappropriate chants directed at CAF President Patrice Motsepe, and the controversial presence of unauthorised guests in the referees’ dressing room.

Match reports from the commissioner and referee have already been submitted, and CAF is expected to announce disciplinary measures in the coming days.

“Twice Marginalised, Yet Full of Potential”: Empowering Women with Disabilities in Ghana’s Agricultural Value Chains

0

A GNA feature by Daniel Adu Darko.

Accra, May 25, GNA- In the heart of Ghana’s rural economy, agriculture beats as a lifeline, providing food, livelihoods, and purpose. Yet, as fields yield harvests and agribusinesses grow, a significant segment of the population remains left behind.

Women with disabilities (PWDs), particularly the youth, remain on the fringes of the agricultural value chains, not for lack of interest or ability, but because of systemic barriers deeply rooted in social norms, economic exclusion, and institutional neglect.

This was the stark reality highlighted in the recently launched HAPPY Programme Report in collaboration with Mastercard Foundation, which presents a sobering yet hopeful assessment of disability inclusion in Ghana’s agricultural landscape.

Double Disadvantage: The Gender and Disability Intersection

Women with disabilities in Ghana often face a unique and layered marginalisation. Not only are they discriminated against because of their gender, but their disabilities further limit their access to agricultural land, credit, training, and markets.

“Female PWDs are caught in a cycle of exclusion that begins with cultural perceptions and ends in economic dependency,” the report noted.

Traditional land ownership structures often favour men, and even when opportunities arise, disabled women are rarely considered. As a result, many young women between the ages of 18 and 35 find themselves trapped, willing but unable to contribute meaningfully to the sector that feeds the nation.

In Ghana’s Northern Zone, the challenges are even more acute. Limited infrastructure, information gaps, and weak institutional support make it difficult for young PWDs, especially women, to access the tools and opportunities they need to thrive.

Breaking Stereotypes, Unleashing Potential

The HAPPY Programme’s assessment found that societal perceptions about disability remained one of the most persistent barriers. PWDs are often viewed as incapable of contributing to agricultural productivity. For women, these perceptions are magnified by patriarchal norms that restrict their mobility, voice, and visibility.

However, these stereotypes couldn’t be further from the truth. “There is a strong willingness among young PWDs to engage in agriculture, particularly in value-added roles like processing and marketing,” said the report.

These roles not only required less physical labour but also tap into areas where PWDs can excel, organisation, coordination, and innovation.

Young women with disabilities have expressed interest in agro-processing, managing distribution channels, and starting agribusiness ventures.

But interest alone is not enough. The report warns that unless adaptive tools, training, and financing are made accessible, this untapped potential will remain just that, untapped.

Policy Gaps and Opportunities

The report presents a suite of comprehensive policy recommendations aimed at transforming the sector into an inclusive space where no one is left behind.

From land allocation quotas for PWDs and input subsidy programmes, to tailored financial products and adaptive equipment grants, the path toward inclusion is well-charted. What’s missing is political will and coordinated implementation.

Key among the immediate actions recommended is the prioritisation of accessibility and adaptive technologies across all zones. Without tactile guides, lightweight ploughs, and voice-activated tools, many women with disabilities will continue to face barriers that are entirely preventable.

Importantly, the report also calls for childcare support for female PWDs and gender quotas for access to land and training. These gender-sensitive interventions recognise the disproportionate burden placed on women and offer practical solutions to ease their entry into agricultural livelihoods.

Community, Culture, and Change

Inclusion is not merely a policy issue, it’s a cultural one. The HAPPY Programme underscores the need for community sensitisation campaigns to shift public perceptions about disability. Traditional leaders, religious heads, and media organisations must be part of a national conversation that redefines ability, uplifts female PWDs, and dismantles stigma.

Success stories of women with disabilities thriving in agribusiness must be amplified across radio, TV, and digital platforms. Visibility fosters acceptance. Acceptance births opportunity.

A Strategic Economic Priority

Including women with disabilities in Ghana’s agricultural value chain is not just the right thing to do, it’s a strategic move for national development. It aligns directly with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities).

“When PWDs, especially women, are given a fair chance, they don’t just survive, they thrive,” the report insists.

A Call to Action

The HAPPY Programme’s recommendations are a blueprint for change, but they require action, urgent, coordinated, and inclusive.

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture, traditional authorities, NGOs, and private agribusinesses must come together to dismantle barriers and unlock opportunity.

Women with disabilities are not liabilities. They are leaders in waiting. With the right support, they can contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s agricultural transformation and help build an equitable society for all. Because in the agricultural fields, there is room for every hand.

Ghana’s Washington Embassy Shut Down, Staff Dismissed, Others Suspended Over Alleged Corruption

0

The government through the Ministry Foreign Affairs, has shut down Ghana’s embassy in Washington, D.C. in the United States of America following revelations of corrupt practices.

The sector Minister, Sameul Okudzeto Ablakwa, in a social media post this morning announced the immediate dismissal of Mr. Fred Kwarteng, a local staff member implicated in an elaborate fraud scheme involving unauthorised charges on visa and passport applicants.

Mr. Kwarteng, recruited in August 2017 to the embassy’s IT department, allegedly created an unauthorised link on the embassy’s official website.

This link redirected applicants to his private company, Ghana Travel Consultants (GTC), where extra fees ranging from US$29.75 to US$60 were charged without the ministry or parliamentary approval.

Mr. Ablakwa said the investigations reveal that he and his collaborators operated this illegal scheme for at least five years.

The Foreign Affairs Minister confirmed that the case has been referred to the Attorney-General for possible prosecution. In addition to the dismissal, all Ministry of Foreign

Affairs staff posted at the Washington embassy have been recalled immediately, and all locally recruited staff there have been suspended. The embassy’s IT department has also been dissolved to prevent further abuse.

Christ the King youth lead blood donation campaign

0

Accra, May 26, GNA -The Young Christian Workers Movement (YCWM) of Christ the King Catholic Church has reaffirmed its commitment to saving lives by organising its annual blood donation exercise in partnership with health institutions.

Dozens of voluntary donors were there to support the country’s urgent need for blood.

The initiative forms part of YCWM’s longstanding mission to contribute to national health efforts and encourage a culture of voluntary blood donation among the youth and wider community.

The movement has been at the forefront of this life-saving campaign for over 15 years.

The exercise brought together parishioners and health professionals at the forecourt of Christ the King Catholic Church in Accra.

Medical staff from the 37 Military Hospital were on-site to assist donors and ensure the smooth running of the event, which saw enthusiastic participation from first-time and regular donors.

Speaking during the event, Flight Lieutenant Rashid Bashiru, a Medical Laboratory Scientist with the Blood Bank Department at the 37 Military Hospital, urged Ghanaians to embrace voluntary blood donation as a lifesaving civic duty.

“A single unit of donated blood can save up to three lives. Blood is essential to human survival, and donating even twice a year could save up to six lives annually,” he said in an interview with the media.

He emphasised the need for individuals to take personal responsibility in supporting the national blood supply encouraging citizens not to wait for special campaigns but to visit nearby hospitals and donate regularly.

The President of the Young Christian Workers Movement, Ms. Lucy Dzata, highlighted the group’s longstanding support for blood donation efforts adding that “for more than 15 years, we have been organising these drives to help maintain adequate blood supplies in our hospitals. It is our way of giving back and ensuring that no life is lost due to the lack of blood.”

Some of the donors at the event shared personal motivations for participating, expressing their desire to contribute to saving lives and encouraging others to follow suit.

The YCWM continues to play a vital role in promoting health and community service in Ghana, and their partnership with the 37 Military Hospital underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in strengthening the country’s healthcare system.

I lost a job opportunity because of a referee – MzGee recounts

Ghanaian media personality MzGee has shared a touching story of how she faced a bitter disappointment early in her career, one that taught her a lesson about setbacks, resilience, and the unpredictable twists of professional life.

Speaking during her popular Gee O’clock show, MzGee recalled how, while job hunting, she had the opportunity to apply to a media house.

She said after moving confidently through multiple interview rounds, MzGee thought the job was hers.

However, at the last moment, she was met with an unexpected blow.

“I thought that, oh, this is a done deal. You know what happened? They took my CV and one of the people on the panel realised that his name was on the CV and he said, ‘because of that, you’re disqualified.’ I learnt from them that anytime I’m going to a certain media house or I’m going to a certain office to look for a job, if somebody who could be a referee is in there, I do not have to add their names.

“It was a very bitter lesson because I had gone through all the processes, and that was the only disqualification,” she shared.

She added that what made it sting even more was the genuine respect she had for that referee.

Mzgee said she never imagined the connection would count against her.

“I used the person because I respected them. I thought they knew me well enough to recommend me. I didn’t know it could work against me,” she said.

For someone who openly admits she hates failing and beating herself up over setbacks, Mzgee said this experience was tough to swallow.

But instead of giving up, MzGee said she embraced the pain as a stepping stone.

“I hate failure. When I fail, it hits me hard. But I’ve come to understand that sometimes, in life, you don’t always win. Sometimes you learn,” she said.

MzGee’s career journey hasn’t been without other trials, from losing in reality shows to navigating betrayals and disappointments. Yet through each challenge, she stated that she always found opportunities to grow.

“There have been times friends betrayed me, times I cried alone at night feeling defeated. But I always dusted myself off and tried again,” she added.

Her submission ended with an advice to young professionals and creatives, stating, “Failure is not the end. It’s a chance to rethink, relearn, and come back stronger. You don’t always have to win at first, or even the second or third time. But you must never stop trying.”

President Mahama unveils automated system with GH¢1 charge

0

Road and bridge tolls are set to be reintroduced Road and bridge tolls are set to be reintroduced

President John Dramani Mahama has urged compliance with the newly introduced automated system for collecting road tolls.

Speaking at the CEO Summit in Accra on May 26, 2025, President Mahama explained the seamless transition from physical toll booths at designated road points to an automated toll collection system.

In a video report shared by JoyNews’ X account on May 26, 2025, he detailed the processes involved in the new automated road toll system.

President Mahama explained that the system would be managed electronically through the Ghana Identity Card, also known as the Ghana Card.

“We said in our budget that we would reintroduce road tolls. There has been discussion about the modalities, but the good thing is that every car is linked to the owner’s Ghana Card. So, we no longer need the old toll booths.

“If you cross the East Legon bridge, we simply take a picture of your car, and the system will automatically charge the toll to your mobile money or bank account. You will just pay 1 cedi, only 1 cedi,” he stated.

Background

The reintroduction of road tolls, as previously announced by the Government of Ghana, is set to commence with the necessary processes already underway.

A report by graphic.com.gh, indicated that the reintroduced road tolls will incorporate technology-driven solutions aimed at modernising the system to improve efficiency, boost revenue generation, and ensure greater transparency.

The report further indicated that the new road toll system will be implemented at 65 toll booths nationwide, an increase from the previous 39 booths that were in operation before the suspension under the previous administration.

The Ministry of Roads and Highways, which is leading the initiative, is therefore inviting qualified Ghanaian private sector entities to submit tenders for pre-qualification in the areas of design, financing, construction, operation, and maintenance of the new tolling system.

Additionally, this process is in line with the Public Private Partnership Act, 2022 (Act 1039).

“We are beginning the procurement process, where we are inviting Ghanaian-owned companies or a consortium that is led by Ghanaians. At least they should prove that the Ghanaians have about 51 per cent in that consortium.

“We are doing what we call the pre-qualification, where we look at the technical, the financial capacity of the firms and their legal status,” the Head of Public Relations of the Ministry of Roads and Highways, Nasir Ahmad Yartey, is quoted as saying by Graphic online on May 22, 2025.

The deadline set for the submission of bids from qualified entities is June 19,2025.

According to Ahmad Yartey, the successful bidder would be responsible for mobilising capital for the tolling system’s modernisation and also undertake the design and construction through engineering, construction and installation of toll gantries/plazas and related infrastructure.

In the operation and maintenance, he said the selected bidder would manage toll collection and related road/bridges and ensure system reliability and that with revenue collection, it would implement robust systems to maximise efficiency and minimise revenue leakages.

Otto Addo will be leading the Black Stars in the 2025 Unity Cup tournament Otto Addo will be leading the Black Stars in the 2025 Unity Cup tournament

Head coach of the Black Stars, Otto Addo, has stated that the nation prioritises the 2025 Unity Cup, which will be hosted in London, England.

According to him, the four-nation tournament will serve as an opportunity for him to explore young and new players in the team, allowing them to showcase their potential.

He stressed that the new players will help create competition within the team, pushing the more experienced players to perform better, ultimately benefiting the nation in tournaments.

“These two matches are extremely important for the team, just like the FIFA World Cup qualifiers in September. I believe this is the perfect time to closely observe the players we’ve been monitoring over the last few months. the 48-year-old said. Team building is a process that takes time, and it’s not something that happens overnight. Therefore, this is a great opportunity to give some of our young players a chance to prove themselves.

“Our aim is to create competition within the team, which can only be achieved by providing an equal platform for all our talents to showcase their skills. We’re looking beyond individuals and focusing on building a strong team. That’s why I’ve decided to give many of these young players a chance to play and prove themselves, with the aim of making them a key part of my team going forward,” he told ghanafa.org.

Five players are set to make their senior debut for Ghana: Joseph Tetteh Anang (St. Patrick’s Athletic, Ireland), Abdul Aziz Issah (Barcelona B), Aaron Essel (North Texas SC), Caleb Yirenkyi (FC Nordsjælland, Denmark), and Mohammed Gadafi Fuseini (Union St. Gilloise, Belgium).

The Black Stars will compete in the Unity Cup with a high-profile semi-final clash against long-time West African rivals Nigeria scheduled for May 28, 2025, at Brentford’s Gtech Community Stadium, with a kick-off time of 19:00 GMT.

The winner of that match will progress to the final on May 31, where they will meet the victor of the other semi-final between Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago, with the final set to kick off at 12:30 GMT.

Congolese refugees in Burundi face starvation and violence amid aid cuts

Claude fears he may soon die – either from starvation or violence – as he waits at a food distribution tent in a refugee camp in Burundi.

He is among thousands of Congolese refugees trapped between a brutal conflict across the border and severe reductions in international food assistance.

A former bouncer from Uvira, a town in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Claude fled after violence erupted in the east, sparked by the rapid advance of the Rwanda-backed M23 group.

Armed groups “were shooting, killing each other, … raping women,” recalled the 25-year-old, who escaped across the border into Burundi in February.

In the overcrowded Musenyi camp, Claude now faces a different struggle as food rations dwindle.

Hunger has fuelled new tensions within the camp, prompting Claude to join volunteers who patrol the area to prevent theft of what supplies remain.

“When I arrived here, I was given 3.5kg [7.7lb] of rice per month. Now it’s a kilo [2.2lb]. The 3kg [6.6lb] of peas have dropped to 1.8kg [4lb]. What I get in tomato sauce lasts one day. Then it’s over,” said Claude, whose name has been changed for security reasons, as have the names of other refugees interviewed.

Some of the most desperate resort to slashing neighbours’ tents in search of food, he added, while gangs “spread terror”.

“The reduction of assistance will lead to many crimes,” he warned.

Oscar Niyibizi, the camp’s deputy administrator, described the cut in food rations as a “major challenge” that could “cause security disruption”.

He urges refugees to cultivate land nearby but said external support remains desperately needed.

The administration of United States President Donald Trump slashed its aid budget by 80 percent, and other Western nations have also reduced donations. As a result, many NGOs and United Nations agencies have been forced to close or significantly scale back their programmes.

These cutbacks have come at a “very bad time” as fighting escalates in the DRC, according to Geoffrey Kirenga, head of mission for Save the Children in Burundi.

Burundi, one of the world’s poorest countries, has received more than 71,000 Congolese refugees since January while still hosting thousands from previous conflicts.

Established last year to accommodate 10,000 people, the Musenyi camp’s population is now nearly twice that number.

In addition to food shortages, the reduction in aid has led NGOs to discontinue support services for survivors of sexual violence, who are numerous in the camp, Kirenga said.

His gravest concern is that “deaths from hunger” may become inevitable.

The World Food Programme has halved rations since March and warned that without renewed US funding, all assistance could end by November.

According to the UN, hundreds of Congolese refugees are compelled to risk returning across the border in search of food.

By P.K. Yankey

Ambainu (W/R), May 26, GNA- Dr Maxwell Boakye, Western Regional Member for the Council of State, has appealed to citizens in the Western Region to unite in the quest for an accelerated socio-economic development.

He said the Region abounds in natural and mineral resources, yet it lagged in development.

Dr Boakye noted that there were sharp divisions and disunity among some traditional rulers which did not augur well for the rapid development of the Western Region.

He was speaking at the Nzemamanle Traditional Council meeting at Ambainu in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region.

The event, which was on the theme,” Unity”, brought together chiefs, queen mothers, politicians, council of state members, corporate organizations, and the media.

Dr Boakye said the Region produced a chunk of cocoa, timber and other mineral resources but was yet to receive her share of the national cake.

He pledged his readiness to lead the traditional council to the Flagstaff House to present their case to the President of the Republic for the Region to get her share of the national cake.

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah assured the Council that government would partner them to administer mining activities in their communities.

The Minister said though the Western Region was endowed with abundant natural resources, their exploitation should be done responsibly and sustainably for economic growth without degrading the environment.

He said a new mining regulatory committee was being formed at the District Assembly which would empower traditional rulers as the first point of call in the new licensing regime.

Mr Kofi Buah said under the new community mining scheme, part of the concessions of large-scale mining companies would be ceded to the host communities for sustainable mining under the new cooperative mining code.

That, the Minister believed, would mitigate the penchant of the youth for illegal mining activities.

Mr Kofi Buah disclosed that some large-scale mining companies dole out part of their concessions to illegal miners to pollute the environment and that investigations were underway to arrest the culprits.

Mr Kofi Buah who doubles as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ellembelle, assured the Council that issues affecting the Nzema area and the Western Region such as road infrastructure, education and promotion and preservation of the Nzema language would be addressed by the government.

Paramount Chief of the Lower Axim Traditional Area and President of the Lower Axim Traditional Council, Awulae Attibrukusu III advised traditional rulers in the Nzema area and the Region, to unite and forget about their differences.

Awulae Attibrukusu III spoke on the need to fight the galamsey menace by burning Chanfang used for illegal mining activities popularly called galamsey.

The Paramount Chief also called for stiffer punishment and jail terms for illegal miners to deter others who might want to indulge in galamsey.

He, therefore, called on the government to revoke fake mining licenses and issue genuine ones in the quest for sustainable mining practices.

He said the Nzemamanle Traditional Council was ready to team up with the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and the government to fight against galamsey activities.

Awulae Attibrukusu III called for community -sponsored mining initiated by the people themselves in a sustainable manner to create more jobs for people in the communities.

The Lower Axim Paramount Chief chastised Municipal and District Chief Executives in the Nzema area who refused to attend Nzemamanle Council meetings with the exception of the DCE for Ellembelle, Mr Joseph Agyekum.

Paramount Chief of the Nsein Traditional Council, Awulae Agyevi Kwame said between 2017 and 2024, the Ashanti Region ranked first in terms of Ghana National Gas developmental projects in the Regions.

Awulae Agyevi Kwame called for a change in the trend for the Western Region to witness an unprecedented development this time round.

Paramount Chief of the Gwira Traditional Area, Awulae Angama Tu Agyan was worried that Okobeng Mines entered the Gwira area without prior consent of traditional rulers and had been mining there for years without pitching even one borehole in the area.

He said Okobeng Mines masterminded the arrest of three of his chiefs for trying to have access to their own land.

Awulae Angama Tu Agyan said once Okobeng Mines came to the Gwira area, nobody was allowed to step on their concessions to cut even bamboo.

He prayed to the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources that Okobeng Mines were trying to come back to Gwira but the Ministry should not approve any license for them to Mine.

The Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana National Gas Company

Limited, Madam Judith Adjobah Blay whose speech was read for her by Mr Abizi Morkeh, an employee at Ghana Gas, said she would continue to engage traditional rulers to chat a common path in bringing more development to the Western Region and the catchment area of the project.

She advised the youth to pursue higher education especially in the Engineering and Technical fields to merit employment by the Company.

Madam Judith Adjobah Blay said the Company would give a fair employment slot to youth in the Nzema area and the Western Region.

She assured the people that phase two of the Ghana National Gas Company Limited would soon materialize as well as an ultra-modern trauma hospital which was 70% complete.

Madam Judith Adjobah Blay assured the Nzemamanle Traditional Council that from 2025 to 2028, the Nzema area and the Western Region would rank first in terms of developmental projects initiated by the Ghana National Gas Company.
