We should find a governance system that unites us, not divides us – Oscar Provencal

Oscar Provencal has called on duty bearers to work towards a more united system Oscar Provencal has called on duty bearers to work towards a more united system

Ghanaian actor, Oscar Provencal has called on duty bearers to work towards a governance system that unites rather than divides the nation.

Speaking in an interview with GBC News in the wake of the recent military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of government officials, military personnel, and party executives, Provencal praised President John Dramani Mahama and his team for the smooth organisation of the state funeral.

He commended the organisers for their swift work within a short period and also described the decision to give the victims a military burial as a good call, noting that the military handled the ceremony professionally.

While acknowledging the good work done, he pointed out inefficiencies in the system, particularly in the initial handling of the crash site.

He said poor management of such sites could compromise forensic investigations, which are crucial in finding out the causes of such accidents.

Provencal expressed concern over the public’s rush to accident scenes to take pictures and videos, especially in the age of social media, where such content goes viral within seconds.

He urged the public to delete disturbing footage and praised responsible media outlets for their coverage.

However, he urged journalists to reflect on their reporting, stressing the need for sensitivity towards grieving families and capacity building in media practices.

He added that tragedy, which led to the demise of eight gallant men as well as the road accident that killed 15 people should serve as a wake-up call to fix weaknesses in the system.

Provencal stressed that unity should not only come from tragedy, adding that Ghanaians must live in peace, free from hatred and bitterness, regardless of political, religious, or ethnic differences.

“At the end of the day, politics should not divide us but unite us,” he stressed.

‘Probe into missing military ammunition may have sparked helicopter tampering’ – Peace Watch Ghana

0

A file photo of a helicopter A file photo of a helicopter

The Executive Director of Peace Watch Ghana, Madam Nyankonpa Daniels, is calling for a thorough investigation into the recent military helicopter crash, suggesting the possibility of sabotage.

Her demand follows the death of Defence Minister Dr Omane Boamah, who was reportedly investigating the disappearance of military ammunition.

According to Madam Daniels, the circumstances surrounding the crash “do not sound right,” and she believes authorities should “leave no stone unturned.”

She speculates that individuals within the military command may have orchestrated the crash to prevent the ongoing probe into the missing ammunition from becoming public.

Dr Boamah had confirmed in July 2025 that an investigation was underway into the transfer of military ammunition to the National Security Secretariat in 2024, which had gone unaccounted for.

He also revealed that the theft of ammunition had been discovered prior to the 2024 general elections. Daniels believes these investigations may have motivated some individuals to “tamper with” the helicopter.

Furthermore, she suggests that the removal of top military officers after the current government took office may have angered some, potentially leading to an act of revenge.

She emphasised the need for a non-political investigation, warning that politicising security agencies “exposes ourselves to danger.”

“I have been crying, asking questions, and speaking to myself, demanding answers,” Daniels said.

“The truth of the matter is that the helicopter crash must be investigated thoroughly. The two political parties, the NDC and the NPP, keep playing politics with our security agencies, especially the military and the police. I was alarmed when I heard some senior military officers had been removed.

“Some people are evil and will pat you on the back while plotting revenge. I am only expressing an opinion, so nobody should misconstrue what I am saying. If we take over government and do these things, we expose ourselves to danger.”

She continued, “For me, I suspect the plane may have been tampered with. All these prophets kept mentioning Omane Boamah, and the event he and the others were travelling to attend took long to plan, so some people may have taken the opportunity to tamper with the helicopter.

“He was investigating the missing ammunition at the GAF, a situation that may not have gone well with some people, so they took the opportunity to interfere with the aircraft.

“Omane Boamah was the Defence Minister and may have been blamed for supporting the President in removing them. Something may have gone on, and we want the investigation to be thoroughly done to reveal the true cause of the crash.”

Ghana international Abdul Fatawu Issahaku is not in a hurry to leave Leicester City despite the strong interest from English Premier League outfit Everton.

The young winger endured a tough 2024/25 campaign due to an ACL injury but has now returned to full fitness and is ready to make an impact again.

Fatawu lit up the Championship in 2023/24, scoring six goals and delivering 13 assists in 40 matches.

His flair and creativity were key in Leicester’s promotion push, earning him a permanent move after a successful loan spell.

On 1 July 2024, Leicester activated his buy clause and secured him for €10 million on a five-year deal, with an additional €7 million fee included.

Meanwhile, watch below the trailer for GhanaWeb’s upcoming documentary on teenage girls and how fish is stealing their futures:

Despite his major injury setback last season, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku is highly valued at Leicester City.

Amid the interest from Everton in the past week, sources have indicated that Issahaku remains committed to the English Championship side.

Leicester City are happy to keep the forward, but may be tempted to sanction his transfer if they receive a huge offer from the Premier League side.

For now, Issahaku remains a key member of the Leicester team and will be crucial in the 2025/26 campaign as the team pushes for a return to the top flight.

“Decapitate galamsey monsters” – Nii Moi Thompson tells gov’t

0

Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission, Dr. Nii Moi Thompson, has urged the government to tackle illegal mining ruthlessly following the helicopter crash, which claimed eight lives.

While sharing fond memories of the victims after signing the book of condolences at the NDC headquarters, Dr. Nii Moi Thompson stressed that the best tribute the government and Ghana as a whole can pay to the deceased would be to eliminate illegal mining.

Speaking to Channel One News on Monday, August 11, he said, “We shouldn’t let their deaths go in vain. They were flying there as part of an effort to fight galamsey, and so perhaps the most fitting tribute to their memory is that we manage to decapitate the galamsey monster.

“We shouldn’t share crocodile tears; we should work hard and make sure that their death doesn’t go in vain.”

This call comes in the aftermath of the August 6 military helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, which claimed the lives of  Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah; Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Muniru Mohammed; former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye; and NDC Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong.

Also among the deceased were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

On Sunday, August 10, Ghanaians paid their final respects to Dr. Murtala Muhammed and Muniru Mohammed. A state funeral for all the victims will be held on Friday, August 15, at the Black Star Square.

Ghanaians should emulate Omane Boamah’s values

0

Prof. Michael Kpessa-Whyte, Director General of the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA), has urged Ghanaians to emulate the values of the late Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, by showing compassion to the needy.

Dr. Omane Boamah and seven others lost their lives in the August 6 helicopter crash.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Point of View with Bernard Avle on Monday, August 11, Prof. Kpessa-Whyte described Dr. Omane Boamah as a leader who cared deeply about alleviating the suffering of others.

“I think he would want us to reflect on his values, which include being very compassionate, and he cared deeply about suffering people. He was someone who was deeply caring and compassionate, and if we can find a way to magnify that value and be compassionate to the needs of many people in the country. Whenever his soul and spirit are, he will smile,” he urged.

The crash claimed the lives of eight people, including Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, former parliamentary candidate, Samuel Aboagye, and National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Chairman, Samuel Sarpong, and Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator.

The crew members who perished were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

A state funeral for the victims will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Black Star Square in Accra.

The aircraft departed Accra at 09:12 local time (GMT) and was heading to Obuasi for an anti-illegal mining event. Its disappearance triggered an immediate search-and-rescue operation, which later confirmed that all eight people aboard had died.

Inaugural cohort of founders graduates from Master of Business Creation Global

0

The award-winning Master of Business Creation (MBC) program graduated the first cohort of international founders through the new MBC Global option this month at a celebration in Ghana.

The founders enrolled from countries across Africa and grew their businesses with support from applied curriculum, personal mentorship, marketing support, and more.

An estimated 18 founders are expected to graduate from the program in the inaugural cohort. The exact number will be determined following a final records review.

“The graduation celebration in Ghana is a great accomplishment for the African founders and the MBC program,” said Jeff Davis, the newly appointed director of all options of the MBC program globally.

“The founders gained the skills and confidence they needed to scale their incredible businesses. At the same time, the MBC program learned what it takes to offer a world-class program and is positioned for continued growth around the world.”

The MBC program is expected to expand to Europe next, with founders from that region projected to enrol in fall 2026.

Anyone interested in enrolling in MBC Global can apply and request information on the program website to be notified of expanding program options. Expansion to a global program began following years of growth in the U.S.

The MBC program was first introduced in 2019 as a first-of-its-kind program, and over 200 founders have enrolled in the program since then.

It matches the best of a business accelerator with a top-ranked university graduate degree to provide entrepreneurs with the information and resources they need to grow and scale their companies.

The program is offered in partnership with the Department of Entrepreneurship & Strategy and Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute at the Eccles School of Business.

The MBC Global program features all the core elements of the successful U.S. program.

The founders in the global program will have access to one-on-one mentorship from experienced entrepreneurs in their location, an applied and highly relevant curriculum, networking opportunities and more.

They will also join a growing, international network of MBC alumni, founders, faculty and mentors.

Residents in the U.S. can enrol in two formats of the MBC program. They can enrol online in a flexible, three-semester format or an in-person, full-time, two-semester option.

The MBC Global option is offered online, and founders join a cohort with other entrepreneurs from their region in a high-touch online offering with extensive peer learning.

“We are proud to be able to offer the world’s leading business accelerator plus a graduate degree for serious entrepreneurs in the U.S. and more and more locations around the world,” Davis said.

“We invite you to learn more about the program, what it can offer you, and stay tuned as we expand to new regions. We are looking for the best founders to grow the program as well as local mentors and coaches to assist their ventures.”

Dr. Bright Vandyke Okyere is one of the founders expected to graduate from the MBC Global program. He enrolled in the program from Ghana to grow Anidaso Eye Centre, a social-health enterprise committed to eliminating avoidable blindness and empowering lives through restored vision.

Okyere called his experience in the MBC program an “eye-opener.” The collaboration has helped shape a content strategy focused on storytelling, highlighting patient journeys, community impact, and the people behind the mission.

“Working one-on-one with the MBC team has been incredibly helpful,” he said. “It’s an eye-opener, and I’m excited about the direction we’re heading with our marketing.”

Jannifer Muthike is another African founder expecting to graduate from the MBC Global program in the inaugural class.

She enrolled for help to scale her business, Dudu Masters, a Kenya-based company that turns organic insect waste into sustainable farming solutions for smallholder farmers across the continent.

“Coming from a scientific background, I found myself a bit unsteady when I first faced the business world,” she said.

“The MBC program helped me with pricing, marketing, and even customer relationship management software.”

Majority Leader and Bawku Central Member of Parliament (MP), Mahama Ayariga, has called on Ghanaians to stand together in solidarity following the August 6 helicopter crash at Adansi Akrofoum, which claimed the lives of eight public servants.

The victims of the crash include: Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Limuna, NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Former Obuasi East Parliamentary Candidate Samuel Aboagye, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo-Mensah.

Speaking during the Speaker of Parliament’s visit to the family of the late Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Muniru Limuna, Mr. Ayariga reiterated that moments of tragedy should unite the nation rather than divide it.

The Bawku Central legislator described the victims as dedicated patriots whose service to the country should inspire national cohesion.

He assured the bereaved families that they will continue to receive care and support.

“We will continue to have memories of these wonderful people. We want to assure their families that we pledge to remain family members even though it is not possible to replace them.

“We will do our best as surviving family members to provide them the care and support that we can afford. We in Parliament will do what we can to remember them.

“A lot of discussions are ongoing on the radio, etc. I just want to assure Ghanaians that in moments like this, let us be united as a country. Man jailed 10 years for incest

0

The Kwabenya Circuit Court has sentenced a 58-year-old mason to 10 years’ imprisonment for having sex with his daughter.

Joshua Bledi got his 17-year-old daughter pregnant, who has now given birth. The baby is seven months old.

Charged with incest, Bledi pleaded guilty.

He appealed to the court to have mercy on him, saying the narration by the prosecution was true.

The court convicted Bledi on his on plea and sentenced him to 10 years’ imprisonment, after considering his age, premeditation of the act and the fact that he did not waste the court time by pleading guilty to the offence.

Prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Gershon Togbe Achondo, told the court that the practice was becoming too many in recent times.

Chief Inspector Achondo, therefore, prayed the court to hand down a harsh sentence to serve as deterrent to other like-minded persons as the offence was a cultural abomination.

Chief Inspector Achondo said the complainant was a social welfare worker at the Ga East Hospital.

The victim is a 17-year-old hairdresser apprentice who has a seven-month baby.

Prosecution said Bledi was the father of the victim and a resident of Musuku, Kwabenya in Accra.

Investigation revealed that the victim went to the Ga East Hospital to deliver and had challenges with the payment of her medical bills, the court heard.

Prosecution said the Social Welfare Department at the hospital intervened and her bills were waived.

However, enquiries were made as to who impregnated her and the victim disclosed to the complainant that Bledi was responsible.

Prosecution said the victim further stated that the accused had been having countless sexual intercourse with her since her mother asked her to live with him.

A report was, however, made to the Kwabenya Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit and a Police medical report was issued for the victim to be examined at the hospital, based on which the accused was arrested.

Meanwhile the GNA has learned that the Abuse Relief Corps, a non-profit organisation, has gone to the aid of the victim and the baby.

‘God sent you to show me unconditional love’ – Davido tells wife Chioma

The singer reflected on Chioma’s quiet entry into his life, which evolved into a vibrant and transformative presence.

“This is the most nervous I’ve ever been. You are my love, my peace. You walked into my life quietly and became the loudest and most beautiful part of it. God sent you to show me what unconditional love feels. We’ve known love only people can dream of, and pain only we can understand, and we are still here. I promise to protect you,” Davido said.

The Miami celebrations reportedly cost a staggering $3.7 million, ranking it among the most extravagant celebrity weddings of the year.

The event attracted A-list guests, including Nigerian business magnates Aliko Dangote and Obi Cubana, prominent politicians such as Governor Ademola Adeleke, and top entertainment stars.

Spain part ways with Tome after England defeat

0

Spain’s women’s national team have parted ways with head coach Montse Tome and named Sonia Bermudez as her replacement.

The Spanish Football Federation said Tome’s contract will not be renewed when it expires on 31 August.

Tome, 43, became Spain’s first female head coach when she was appointed in September 2023, having acted as Jorge Vilda’s assistant until the 44-year-old was sacked amid the Luis Rubiales scandal.

She led the side to victory in the inaugural Women’s Nations League in February 2024, but Spain finished runners-up in the Euros after a penalty shootout defeat by England on 27 July.

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) thanked Tome for “her work, professionalism and dedication” but said she will leave her role on 31 August when her deal expires.

Bermudez won nine league titles during a playing career that took her to Rayo Vallecano, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Levante.

The 40-year-old played 61 times for Spain and had been head coach of the U23s until her promotion to the senior side.

She captained Spain and competed in the 2015 World Cup, when La Roja finished bottom of their group.

Analysis

Emma Sanders, BBC Sport women’s football news reporter

Tome knew her time in charge was likely to end going into Euro 2025, with her contract due to expire this summer and no apparent desire to offer an extension.

Women’s football director Reyes Bellver joined the RFEF in February, and sources in Spain say she made it clear she wanted to make deep and genuine changes to the structure.

After high-profile controversy and incidents involving former federation chief Luis Rubiales and World Cup-winning manager Jorge Vilda, Bellver wanted to create a fresh culture.

However, experts in Spain say the team’s performance at Euro 2025 – reaching the final before losing to England in a penalty shootout – delayed the decision to let Tome go, with some members of the board questioning the sporting justification for change.

A unanimous decision by the board was required, but they eventually agreed, with sources close to the Spanish players admitting Tome did not hold total authority in the dressing room.

Journalists and supporters in Spain are widely in favour of the decision to let Tome go, given that she was assistant manager to Vilda and part of the previously poor culture.

However, there is frustration over the RFEF’s decision to appoint Sonia Bermudez as Tome’s replacement, with some in Spain questioning her lack of experience and the fact that she was also part of the structure, albeit in the youth teams, when Vilda and Rubiales were involved.

Bermudez was a key player for Spain in her career and has had success at youth team level as a coach, so that does bring optimism, while her assistant Iraia Iturregi is experienced and has an impressive CV.

The expectation is that they will take on this highly talented group of players and try to ensure they retain their status as the world’s best at the 2027 Women’s World Cup.

NPP’s by-election withdrawal is about respect, not politics

0

Evans Nimako, Director of Elections for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has dismissed claims that the party’s decision not to contest the upcoming Tamale Central parliamentary by-election was motivated by fear of defeat.

He said it would be “unnecessary” for the NPP to field a candidate, given the circumstances surrounding the death of the area’s Member of Parliament, Alhaji Hon. Dr. Murtala Mohammed.

The by-election follows the tragic death of Dr. Murtala Muhammed, who was among eight people killed in the August 6 military helicopter crash in Adansi Akrofoum, Ashanti Region. His passing created a vacancy in the Tamale Central seat, necessitating a by-election in line with Article 112(5) of Ghana’s Constitution.

Speaking on Eyewitness News with Umaru Sanda Amadu, on August 11, Mr. Nimako said the NPP’s decision should be commended rather than politicised.

“We lost our dear brothers under very bizarre circumstances. In order to give them a befitting burial and wish them well in their next world, it is not to go through a certain contestation. We’re saying that under the circumstances, there’s no need.

“This principle should be supported by all lovers of democracy in this country. I think you should rather pat the NPP on the back. This gesture by the NPP should rather receive some commendations from lovers of democracy,” he said.

In a statement signed by NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party said the decision was taken during a National Steering Committee meeting held on Monday, August 11, 2025, at its national headquarters.

The crash claimed the lives of eight people, including Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, former parliamentary candidate, Samuel Aboagye, and National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Chairman, Samuel Sarpong, and Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator.

The crew members who perished were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

The government declared a three-day national mourning period, which included a flower-laying ceremony from August 7 and a memorial service held on August 9.

A state funeral for the victims will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Black Star Square in Accra.

22-year-old man remanded for robbing, raping nurse in Koforidua

0

A 22-year-old man, identified only as Kwame, has been remanded by a court in Koforidua for allegedly robbing and raping a 25-year-old nurse undertaking her National Service.

The victim, who had rented a room in the accused person’s family house a few months ago, was reportedly deceived by the accused into believing that someone was looking for her in front of the Yiadom Hwedie Palace of the New Juabenmanhene.

While she was away, Kwame quickly changed his clothes, put on a mask, and sneaked into her bedroom.

Upon her return, the accused pulled a knife on her and demanded all her money. Out of fear, the victim handed over more than GH¢1,000 in cash. Kwame is said to have further demanded a mobile money transfer, but the victim had no funds in her account.

Under knife-point threat, the accused ordered the victim to undress and forced her into a doggy-style position, after which he sexually assaulted her.

Kwame fled the house immediately after the incident and went into hiding. However, the victim, who was able to identify him despite his attempt to disguise his voice, lodged a complaint at the police station, prompting a search for the suspect.

The accused later appeared at the police station with his father to plead for forgiveness but was immediately arrested.

The traumatized victim, upon seeing him, reportedly went into shock and began jerking. Out of frustration, she allegedly slapped him multiple times.

Police obtained a medical report on the victim, after which Kwame was charged with rape, robbery, threat of death, and threat of causing harm. He has since been remanded by the Koforidua court.

Prophets who defy prophecy directive will face public judgment

0

The Presidential Envoy for Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, has warned that prophets and spiritual leaders who disregard the new national directive on the handling of prophecies will face public scrutiny and judgment.

Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News on Monday, August 11, Mr. Afriyie Ankrah stressed that while no legal sanctions will be imposed on those who defy the directive, public opinion will serve as a powerful tool for accountability.

“There is nothing like an arrest when they defy the directive, but society will judge them if they don’t obey. They used to complain that they did not have access to victims, and now they have been given access,” he said.

In a statement issued on Sunday, August 10, the Office of the Presidential Envoy urged religious leaders nationwide to submit any prophecy or spiritual insight of national importance to its office for urgent review.

The directive focuses particularly on revelations involving high-profile political figures, governance, national security, and matters affecting public stability.

The move follows a wave of prophecies circulating online after the August 6 military helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, which claimed the lives of eight prominent figures.

They included Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah; Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Muniru Mohammed; former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye; and NDC Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong.

Also among the deceased were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

On Sunday, August 10, Ghanaians gathered to pay their last respects to Dr. Murtala Muhammed and Muniru Mohammed ahead of a state funeral for all victims, scheduled for Friday, August 15, at the Black Star Square.

Mr. Afriyie Ankrah stressed that the directive is not intended to silence religious voices but to ensure sensitive prophecies are handled responsibly to prevent fear, misinformation, and instability.

MUSIGA to honour Lumba, others with Music Museum, Hall of Fame

0

The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has unveiled ambitious plans to immortalise the legacy of Ghanaian music legends, including Highlife icon Daddy Lumba, who died recently, with a national Music Museum and Hall of Fame.

This development comes as public concern grows over the inadequate recognition and documentation of Ghana’s music pioneers, particularly those who helped shape Highlife, a genre deeply rooted in our cultural heritage.

Speaking exclusively to Graphic Showbiz on August 5, MUSIGA President Bessa Simons revealed that MUSIGA is actively collaborating with the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB) to establish an essential national music archive.

According to him, the proposed museum will serve as a permanent record of Ghana’s rich musical history, including various genres, landmark moments and key personalities who have defined the country’s music.

“We are embarking on documenting our artists. There is no data about them anywhere,” Simons stated, noting that “for instance, when you mention a great musician like CK Mann, there is no proper documentation on him. We will include Lumba in the list. That is the reason why we want a national music archive to honour such icons.

“In addition to the music museum where the history and contributors to Highlife will be preserved, we will make sure that all other genres done in Ghana are also there. And we will fuse it with a Hall of Fame, so that if you go to this place, you will see that everything that has to do with music in Ghana is there.”

Beyond these facilities, MUSIGA is also set to launch a series of activities in honour of Daddy Lumba and other fallen stars. These will include nationwide tribute concerts and educational workshops to highlight Highlife’s evolution and its continued relevance.

“There will be a special tribute concert and workshops for people to know what Lumba did with Highlife, because he brought a different kind of contribution to the genre.

“A special seminar on Highlife music will be organised at the end of the year by stakeholders, including the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Arts Agency, Ghana Tourism Authority, Commission on Culture and Folklore Board.

Mr Simons emphasised that MUSIGA has been in talks with relevant parties to push for formal recognition of Highlife as part of Ghana’s intangible cultural heritage. They hope this move will be finalised by November.

“We started efforts even before Daddy Lumba passed away,” Simons stated. “We want UNESCO to list Highlife as one of the intangible cultural heritage, making it a cornerstone in discussions around music globally. Just like how Jamaica readily comes to mind at the mention of Reggae, we want it to be the same for Ghana whenever Highlife is mentioned,” he stated.

Finally, the MUSIGA President stressed the need to reconnect younger generations with Highlife music. He lamented that many youth have drifted away from the genre, partly due to a lack of national support and positive storytelling around its value.

“We must work hard to inspire young people to embrace Highlife. Too often, the genre is overlooked or dismissed, but it remains the foundation of much of the music we enjoy today. Every modern sound in Ghana carries echoes of Highlife,” Simons concluded.

Helicopter crash: Postpone Akwatia by-election

0

Election Watch Ghana has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to postpone the Akwatia by-election, currently scheduled for September 2, citing the recent death of Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as a compelling reason for the change.

In a statement signed by convenors Mark Ewusi Arkoh and Jude Balma, the group referenced constitutional and legal provisions empowering the EC to adjust electoral timelines when necessary.

“Pursuant to Article 296 of the 1992 Constitution, the EC is mandated to exercise its discretionary powers in a fair and just manner. Given the circumstances, a postponement would be in line with this constitutional provision, ensuring that the electoral process is conducted without undue prejudice to any party.

“Furthermore, Section 13 of the Elections Act, 2002 (Act 651) empowers the EC to make regulations and take necessary steps for the conduct of elections. This includes adjusting electoral timelines when circumstances necessitate such actions.”

The group noted that the EC itself had publicly acknowledged Dr. Omane Boamah’s significant contribution to Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meetings.

They argued that postponing the poll would honour his legacy and safeguard fairness in the electoral process.

“The demise of Dr. Omane Boamah, a key member of the NDC’s electoral team and an active contributor to IPAC, as acknowledged by the EC Chairperson in her statement on August 8, 2025, constitutes such a circumstance.

“In the interest of fairness and equal opportunities, we believe that a brief postponement would enable the NDC to adequately prepare for the by-election, thereby ensuring a level playing field for all parties involved,” the statement read.

Election Watch Ghana also urged the EC to convene an emergency IPAC meeting to deliberate on the matter.

“We humbly request an emergency meeting of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) to discuss this matter further and explore options for a postponement. By granting this request, the EC would uphold the principles of fairness and impartiality that are essential to the growth and development of our democracy,” the statement concluded.

Evans Nimako: NPP’s by-election withdrawal is about respect, not politics

Now, Africa Should Balance Afrocentrism with Global South Alliance

0

Map Of Africa - Photo Credit: OnTheWorldMap
Map Of Africa – Photo Credit: OnTheWorldMap

While having a chat with a colleague recently, I told him that the non-aligned movement in this age is not just outdated; it is tactically naive and diplomatically dangerous.

I mean, standing in the middle in this rapidly shifting chessboard of global politics is no longer a position of wisdom but weakness.

And if Africa does not want to be sidelined in the emerging economic order, it must choose to either align with the progressive and multipolar Global South, or cling to the West and her crippling economic policies. Well, what triggered my conviction was the recent 25% tariff sanctions which President Donald Trump slammed against India.

The sanction was not just about numbers on paper, it came with humiliating conditions. That a sovereign nation like India could be told whom it can and cannot trade with is a bitter reminder of how Western economic power still operates as a whip and not a handshake. India’s only crime was purchasing crude oil from Russia, refining it, and selling it to the European Union – an arrangement that benefitted all parties except Washington’s geopolitical interest.

I guess the numbers are the main headache for America, because, according to UN Comtrade data, India’s imports of Russian crude surged from 1% of total imports in 2021 to over 23% in 2023, which makes it one of Russia’s largest buyers despite NATO sanctions. Washington saw this as economic oxygen to the Kremlin. And do you even know what the hypocrisy is? America itself has continued importing Russian uranium, critical for its nuclear reactors, even while sermonising about isolation. The same rules it imposes on others are never applied to itself.

America believed India was blunting the edge of its sanctions, allowing Russia to maintain oil revenues, stabilise its rouble, and continue funding its war economy. The fact that this oil was making its way, via India, to European consumers made the arrangement even more infuriating to Washington. But the lesson for Africa is not about oil, it is about sovereignty, and how easily it can be cornered when you decide to sit between warring elephants.

Africa really needs to learn from India, whose non-aligned movement, historically, was born out of a principled resistance to Cold War binaries. The then Indian Prime Minister, Jawarhala Nehru, who was also India’s first prime minister, alongside leaders like Nasser of Egypt, Tito of Yugoslavia, and Nkrumah of Ghana, envisioned a bloc of nations that would chart their own course, beholden to none and free from foreign interferences.

But that was a different world then. Today’s global economy is too interconnected, sanctions are too weaponised, and trade dependencies are too entrenched for that kind of neutrality. If India, who was the founding architect of non-alignment can be forced to pay for its diplomatic balancing act now, what hope does a weak Africa have if it clings to that same outdated playbook?

Although Africa’s foreign policy has long been defined primarily by Afrocentrism, which focuses on continental unity, Pan-African solidarity, and cautious engagement with the big powers. In principle, we can say this is admirable. But in practice, it has often meant refusing to take sides, even when the balance of global economic power is shifting before our eyes.

The West’s economic model for Africa has been clear: debt traps via IMF and World Bank loans, conditionalities that force privatisation, zand policies that leave industries hollowed out. It is no coincidence that Africa’s share of global manufacturing has stagnated below 2% for decades.

Instead, Africa should decisively align with the new emerging world economic order and the multipolar Global South nations like China, Russia, Brazil, India and others within BRICS. These are the countries offering Africa low-interest financing without the poison pills of political interference.

China’s Belt and Road Initiative has financed over 1,000 infrastructure projects across the continent, from railways in Kenya to hydropower dams in Ethiopia. Russia, through its energy diplomacy, has offered nuclear power agreements to countries like Egypt and South Africa without demanding ideological alignment. These relationships are not perfect, but at least, they are far less paternalistic than the West’s.

Withal, joining hands with the Global South’s multipolar vision means more than getting cheaper loans. It means Africa having a say in reshaping global trade rules, controlling our own resources, and refusing to let the dollar remain the sole chokehold on African economies. BRICS, with its plans for alternative payment systems, offers Africa a lifeline from the tyranny of Western financial dominance. Aligning here is not a betrayal of Afrocentrism. In fact, it is its fulfilment, because true self-reliance demands choosing partners who respect your agency.

It is time for African governments, foreign affairs ministries, elites, and continental bodies like the African Union to move beyond the comfort zone of outdated neutrality. We must forge a timely consensus on strategic alignment with the Global South, not in whispers but in bold and public declarations. We cannot afford to repeat India’s costly lesson, that in today’s world, sitting on the fence is not a sign of independence, but an invitation to be pushed off it.

The hour is late but the door is still open for us to push smartly. The cost of inaction is staggering. If we continue to answer at the beck and call of Western hegemony, we will remain raw material suppliers, perpetually indebted, our currencies would remain at the mercy of Federal Reserve interest rate hikes. The West will keep offering aid that is barely enough to dress our wounds, but never enough to cure the illness. There’s no better time to align with the global South than now!

A Plus reacts to Prophet Roja’s doom prophecy about him

0

Following his widely discussed prophecy about Dr Omane Boamah, Prophet Roja has found himself at the centre of another public controversy after one of his previous prophecies resurfaced.

In an earlier video, the self-styled “Dangerous Prophet” claimed to have foreseen a deadly accident involving the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, A Plus.

According to him, the accident would occur around Kasoa and could be fatal unless prayers were offered to avert it.

However, A Plus the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central responded sharply to the prophecy in a Facebook post on Monday, August 11, 2025.

In a fiery clapback, the outspoken MP claimed God had also revealed something troubling about Prophet Roja’s future.

“Last night God revealed to me that some boys will physically attack the so-called ‘Prophet’ Roja very soon. Let’s pray for him!” A Plus wrote, adding a sarcastic twist to the exchange.

The back-and-forth has since stirred heated debate on social media, with some calling for restraint in public prophecies involving individuals, while others see the exchange as part of Ghana’s growing culture of sensational spiritual predictions.

93 percent of Ghanaian prophetic pastors are jokers-Osofo Kyiri Abosom

0

The founder and leader of the Life Assembly Worship Centre, Christian Kwabena Andrews The founder and leader of the Life Assembly Worship Centre, Christian Kwabena Andrews

The founder and leader of the Life Assembly Worship Centre in the Greater Accra Region, Christian Kwabena Andrews, has strongly criticised some prophetic pastors in Ghana, accusing them of bringing disrepute to the pastoral ministry through sensational and life-threatening prophecies.

Speaking on the Ghana Yensom morning show with Otafrigya Kaayire Kwesi Apea-Apreku on Accra 100.5 FM, Monday, August 11, 2025, Rev Andrews, also known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom and also leads the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), claimed that “93 per cent” of such prophets are “jokers” who lack seriousness in their calling.

He said many of them thrive on public attention, issuing alarming predictions about national leaders without first engaging them privately.

“God reveals to redeem,” he stressed, “but these so-called prophets reveal and then walk away without offering solutions.”

Andrews recalled a time when he privately delivered a prophecy concerning the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. Instead of going public, he contacted the Manhyia Palace directly, discussed the matter, and worked towards a resolution.

“After the meeting, the King thanked me for the mature way I handled it,” he noted, questioning why others choose national television to broadcast personal prophecies about leaders.

His remarks came in reference to a recent prophecy from a colleague predicting that Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah would die in a plane crash.

Tragically, eight people—including Dr Boamah—later lost their lives in a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter crash while on an official flight to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.

The victims included:

Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence

Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation

Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator

Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate

Dr Samuel Sarpong, National Vice Chairman of the NDC and former Regional Minister

Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Ghana Air Force

Flight Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, Ghana Air Force

Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, Ghana Air Force

Andrews commended the President for his leadership in ordering that all prophecies about the government be submitted to the Presidency for review.

He proposed the establishment of a special desk at the Presidency for receiving prophecies.

He also suggested creating an official government website where pastors could submit their prophecies privately, thereby eliminating unnecessary public showmanship.

Jegri Bekala’s selection to mine in Dormaa is based on merit — Board of Governors

0

Barimah Twumasi Bekoe II, a member of the Board of Governors of the Jegri Bekala Limited, a mining company, says the company’s selection to mine in the Dormaa Central Municipality and Dormaa East District in the Bono Region is based on merit.

He explained that based on their track record, the company was given the go ahead to undertake large scale surface/alluvial gold mining activities in the area.

Barimah Bekoe II, also the Twaforhene (sub-chief) of the Dormaa Traditional Council said: “Osagyefo Oseadeyo Agyemang Badu II, the Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area has taken a firm decision to outlaw illegal mining in the area”.

His decision is basically because of the visible and negative impact of galamsey, causing widespread and extensive damage, devastation and destruction to forest, natural vegetation and environment, as well as plundering natural resources, polluting water bodies and the manifestation of all kinds of disease as well as health hazards in communities”.

Barimah Bekoe II stated that “the Dormaahene finally settled on Jegri Bekala Limited after a complete scrutiny by carefully investigating and checking the backgrounds of the three mining companies”.

Barimah Bekoe II, also the Chief of Kofiasua in the Traditional Area, was speaking at a stakeholder’s engagement, organised by the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) at Aboabo Number Two.

Attended by chiefs and queens, assembly members, and community leaders, the meeting sought to discuss Jegri Bekala Limited’s alluvial gold mining activities at Amasu in the Municipality and Kyeremasu in the Dormaa East District.

Barimah Bekoe II explained that checks showed that the Jegri Bekala Limited had a global track record of responsible mining, saying the company’s policy forced it to recruit 60 percent of the labour force of skilled and unskilled labour from within the local communities.

He said: “Where there is no skilled labour, they employ persons outside the local communities. That means if there’s an engineer in the community, the engineer will be considered first rather than an outsider”.

Barimah Bekoe II explained that the company would have terms of agreement and negotiations with landowners, households and farmers whose property were within its concessional area for compensation, assuring that “Jegri Bekala is here completely for the development”.

‘A lot of NPP founding members unhappy with direction and state of party’

0

Kwame Pianim is an economist and an elder of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kwame Pianim is an economist and an elder of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)

A stateman, economist and an elder of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Pianim, has stated that many elders of the opposition NPP are unhappy with the current direction of the party.

Sharing his thoughts on the party’s decision to elect a flagbearer first before the grassroot elections on TV3 on August 11, 2025, he said that he does not agree to the approach.

In his estimation, the leadership needs to urgently stop and listen to the advice of their elders before advancing forward in most of their operations.

“I do not agree with it (election of flagbearer ahead of other grassroot elections). We are trying to restructure the party. We are trying to get the young people to halt, look and listen. So that they get the direction right. I know a lot of founding members who are unhappy with the direction and state of the party.

“I know a lot of them who are anxious and contacting the current leadership of the party. Both in parliament, national secretariate, and the council of elder to hold on first and stage a stakeholder engagement to look at the direction and state of the party. They are worried about the direction the young people have taken in the party. I hope that we will soon get our acts together, rebuild, restructure and build a united front to move forward,” he said.

Quizzed on whether the young people are listening to their counsel he said, “50% of the problem will be resolved if they listen because it is their future, not my future …if they refuse to listen to our counsel the NPP will become irrelevant to the politics of Ghana as the CPP has become.”

Kwame Pianim’s reactions follow internal wrangling in the New Patriotic Party, (NPP) leading to varying factions; a trend many political watchers have strongly cautioned could spell doom for the party.

The 26-year-old left-back ended his stint with El Mahalla at the conclusion of the 2024-25 campaign, having featured in 22 matches across all competitions.

Omane Boamah was behind key NDC health manifesto pledges — Ablakwa

0

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has revealed that many of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) health sector promises were inspired by the late Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah.

Speaking on The Point of View programme on Monday, August 11, 2025, Mr. Ablakwa highlighted Dr. Omane Boamah’s role as a key strategist for President John Mahama during the opposition years from 2017 to 2024.

“Many people do not know that a lot of the promises in the National Democratic Congress manifesto when it comes to the health sector are his thoughts,” Mr. Ablakwa said.

He pointed to initiatives such as free primary health care and the MahamaCares programme among others, noting that these were postulated by Dr. Omane Boamah and well received by the public.

“He became a strong strategist for President Mahama throughout the opposition period,” Mr. Ablakwa added.

The late Defence Minister, who tragically died in the August 6 military helicopter crash, left behind a legacy of policy innovation and political strategy that continues to influence the National Democratic Congress’s approach to governance.

The helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, claimed the lives of Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, and Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation.

Others confirmed dead were Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate; and Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The crew members who perished were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

Earlier, the Ghana Armed Forces reported that the Z-9 helicopter, carrying three crew members and five passengers, had gone “off the radar.”

The aircraft departed Accra at 09:12 local time (GMT) and was heading to Obuasi for an anti-illegal mining event. Its disappearance triggered an immediate search-and-rescue operation, which later confirmed that all eight people aboard had died.

Medikal is a Ghanaian rapper Medikal is a Ghanaian rapper

Rapper, Medikal, has stated that Ghanaians have not just been dancing to his song, he believes it’s the beat keeping Ghana’s music scene alive.

The rapper stated that his latest hit, “Shoulder,” featuring Shatta Wale and Beeztrap KOTM, is the track that has revived the industry in 2025.

In a post on his X page on August 10, 2025, Medikal wrote, “Shoulder saved the Ghanaian music scene this year.”

He went on to say that his ability to release hit songs while still delivering hard-hitting rap for the streets is a rare skill that shouldn’t be underestimated.

“Mastering the art of dropping hits, staying consistent and dropping bars for the streets simultaneously is a whole different quest. Y’all don’t deserve me tbh,” he wrote in another post.

However, Medikal’s comments have garnered conversations online.

Scores of fans disagreed with his statement, saying ‘Shoulder’ has been a popular song but cannot be credited with “saving” the Ghanaian music scene in 2025.

“Well, Shoulder has played its part but claiming it has saved Ghanaian music this year is a stretch,” one user commented.

Others pointed to streaming charts to back their argument, noting that most of the top spots this year have been dominated by Black Sherif’s songs from his “Iron Boy” project.

Some also questioned if Medikal was overlooking other major hits, including Moliy’s ‘Shake It to the Max,” which has been making waves globally.

Watch as another helicopter makes emergency landing in Nkawkaw

A Volta River Aviation helicopter made an emergency landing on Monday morning August 11, 2025 at Nkawkaw, near the Nkawkaw bypass in the Kwahu West Municipality of the Eastern Region.

On Monday, the aircraft, a Jet A-1 with registration number 9G-AFW, was travelling from Accra to Kumasi when the pilot was forced to land due to poor visibility caused by harsh weather conditions.

Sources at the scene confirmed that the pilot and crew members are safe and unharmed.

The incident occurred just days after another Volta River Aviation helicopter, with registration number 9G-ADW, made an emergency landing at the Presby School Park in Ajumako Kokoben, Central Region.

That aircraft, which was carrying four passengers, ran into poor visibility and turbulent winds mid-flight.

The pilot landed in an open field within a local school compound, where the helicopter remained for about an hour until weather conditions improved.

These incidents come in the wake of a tragic military helicopter crash on August 6 in Adansi Akrofuom, Ashanti Region, which killed eight people on board.

The helicopter crash on August 6, claimed the lives of the Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed; Minister of Defence, Dr Omane Boamah, a former Ashanti Regional Minister Samuel Sarpong; Muniru Limuna (Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator); and Samuel Aboagye, a former Parliamentary Candidate.

Rwanda emulates ‘Ghanacard’ as it launches national digital identification system

Reports indicate many Rwandans have embraced the move and have started registering for the card Reports indicate many Rwandans have embraced the move and have started registering for the card

Rwanda has emulated Ghana’s successful national biometric identification system by launching its own “Rwandacard”, a national biometric identification system for the East African nation.

Ghana has become one of the few countries in the world after successfully implementing a nationwide digital identification system for all citizens and residents, which also serve as base document for multiple identification documents.

Rwanda now intends to join the fray, and its National Identification Agency (NIDA) has launched a nationwide registration exercise.

Biometric capture of citizens, however, is expected to kick off in September, NIDA Director General, Josephine Mukesha said, ahead of the roll of the new national digital ID billed for 2026.

Reports indicate many Rwandans have embraced the move and have already started registering for the biometric national card.

Like the Ghanacard, the initiative is aimed at providing every Rwandan citizen, refugee, and foreign resident in Rwanda with a secure biometric digital identity, which will facilitate access to a wide range of public and private sector services.

Ghana Advocacy Group Pushes Parliamentary Term Limits and Gender Quotas

0

Parliament Of Ghana
Parliament Of Ghana

A prominent civil society organization is demanding sweeping constitutional changes to overhaul Ghana’s political landscape.

The New Ghana Social Justice Forum has called for a two-term limit for Members of Parliament and mandatory gender-balanced candidate lists, arguing current systems enable corruption and exclude women.

In a forceful statement, the Forum condemned Ghana’s “highest bidder” political culture, where parliamentary hopefuls allegedly bribe party executives to secure nominations. This practice, they claim, sidelines qualified professionals and fuels corruption. “Extended tenure fosters environments where parliamentary committees are used to solicit kickbacks,” the group asserted, warning that long-serving MPs develop unchecked influence. They also cited threats of violence against challengers in some constituencies as undermining democratic renewal.

The proposed term limits would mirror Ghana’s presidential restrictions, capping MPs at two terms. The Forum believes this would dismantle political monopolies, reduce pressure to recoup campaign investments through graft, and open doors to new talent. Simultaneously, they advocate legislation requiring parties to field at least 50% women candidates in general elections to break systemic barriers in political leadership.

“Experience begins on the first day in office,” the Forum emphasized, rejecting claims that lengthy tenure equals competence. “No parliamentary seat is any individual’s birthright.” The group urged Ghana’s Constitutional Committee, anti-corruption bodies, and diplomatic partners to support these reforms, invoking Albert Einstein’s warning about inaction in the face of wrongdoing.

No immediate response has been issued by Parliament or major political parties regarding these proposals, which would require constitutional amendments to implement.

5 investment options to choose when the market is down

Ghana's investment climate is rebounding Ghana’s investment climate is rebounding

“Invest when others panic” is a principle American investor and philanthropist Warren Buffett has applied to stay afloat in the stock market.

This principle has been echoed repeatedly by asset managers and investors to encourage investment even during market downturns.

For Ghana, the last two years have been characterised by turbulence in the investment community, leading to a decline in investor confidence.

The appetite for investment fell even further due to the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme, which affected government bonds, once considered the safest investment tool.

However, Ghana’s economy has, over the last six months, shown signs of rebound and recovery, as reflected in its macroeconomic indicators and general outlook.

This presents an opportunity for those who have resorted to keeping their money in cash or fixed deposits to consider investing again.

This article explores five investment options worth considering now, even though the investment climate is not entirely favourable.

BoG reports 4.8 months import cover as reserves hit $11.1 billion

1. Bank of Ghana Gold Coin

The Chief Executive of Dalex Finance and economist Joe Jackson has described the newly introduced Bank of Ghana Gold Coin as “an excellent investment tool.”

According to him, gold prices have outperformed the US dollar since the beginning of the year.

The coin was introduced by the central bank to discourage dollar hoarding. Each day, the bank publishes the coin’s price in correlation with the daily exchange rate. Buyers can purchase the coin and hold it until they decide to sell in the future when prices appreciate.

The coins are available in quarter-ounce, half-ounce, and one-ounce denominations.

2. Stocks

Investing in stocks when the market is “down” may not seem sensible to the average person, but it often works well for investors. Historically, the stock market has always rebounded to generate profits over the long term.

Stocks are typically suited for long-term investments and for individuals with a higher risk tolerance. Returns can be substantial and rewarding. However, because stocks are high-risk, it is crucial to work with trusted brokers or investment schemes, tread cautiously, and seek expert advice.

Ghana’s economy stabilising but real reform still missing – EM Advisory

3. Treasury Bills

Treasury bills are short-term, safe investments with maturity periods of 91, 182, or 364 days. Despite recent reductions in interest rates, they remain a solid investment choice.

Treasury bills are auctioned by the Bank of Ghana through commercial banks every Friday. With as little as GH¢100, you can start investing in them.

4. Partner capital

Partner capital refers to funds provided by an individual to support or grow another person’s business, typically in exchange for equity, profit-sharing, or convertible debt. This arrangement forms a close, trust-based financial partnership.

With the economy rebounding and inflation easing, it is advisable to identify promising businesses and invest in them for potential long-term gains.

5. Human capital investing

Human capital investment involves putting resources into an individual’s skills, career, education, or future earning potential, in exchange for returns tied to their success.

Regardless of market conditions, investing in people can be both financially rewarding and personally fulfilling.

Partey made his debut for Villareal on Sunday Partey made his debut for Villareal on Sunday

Thomas Partey marked his first appearance for Villarreal with a message of gratitude, despite his side’s preseason defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday, August 10, 2025.

The Ghana international, who joined the Yellow Submarine this summer on a two-year deal, came off the bench in the second half as Villarreal fell 2-0 at the Estadio de la Cerámica.

Aston Villa took control early, with England striker Ollie Watkins opening the scoring in the 23rd minute, before Emiliano Buendía sealed the result just four minutes into the second half.

After the game, Partey took to social media to share a brief but heartfelt reaction.

Posting photos from the match, the former Arsenal midfielder wrote, “First minutes in the tank. God is good,” underlining his excitement at getting back on the pitch in Spanish football.

The 32-year-old’s return to La Liga comes after a successful stint at Atlético Madrid earlier in his career, where he won the UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Super Cup.

Villarreal are banking on his wealth of experience to bolster their midfield as they prepare for a demanding 2025/26 campaign, which includes a UEFA Champions League run.

Partey’s debut may have ended in defeat, but the signs of sharpness and composure he displayed suggest that Villarreal fans can expect a key role from the Ghanaian star in the months ahead.

Unchecked Prophecies could aid criminal acts

0

The Office of the Presidential Envoy for Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations has advised religious leaders to exercise caution and restraint when making prophecies concerning high-profile political figures.

The advisory follows the August 6 military helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, which claimed eight lives, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah; Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Muniru Mohammed; former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye; and NDC Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong. Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah also perished in the accident.

The office further urged religious leaders to formally submit any prophecy or spiritual insight of national significance for urgent review.

Speaking to Citi News on Monday, August 11, Presidential Envoy Elvis Afriyie Ankrah explained that the move seeks to safeguard the nation, minimise public controversy, and prevent incidents where unscrupulous individuals could exploit such revelations for malicious purposes.

“If you say that a military aircraft, a presidential jet, is going to crash, it is a matter of national security. Let’s say somebody says he has seen a vision that armed robbers are going to attack a minister of state. It may well be true, but that same prophecy can create an avenue for a miscreant to carry out the attack.

“Even if it began as a prophecy, it could still open the door for something terrible to happen,” Mr. Afriyie Ankrah cautioned.

His remarks come amid the widespread circulation of prophecies on social media following the August 6 tragedy, which has plunged the nation into mourning. Ghanaians paid their final respects to Dr. Murtala Muhammed and Muniru Mohammed on Sunday, August 10.

A state funeral for all eight victims is scheduled for Friday, August 15, at the Black Star Square, where their service and sacrifice will be honoured.

Ghana Advocacy Group Demands Mining Crackdown After Ministerial Deaths

0

ISODEC
ISODEC

Ghana’s Integrated Social Development Centre (ISODEC) has urged the government to declare a state of emergency on illegal mining following a helicopter crash that killed two cabinet ministers and six officials.

The group was en route to launch rCOMSDEP, a community mining program targeting galamsey (illegal mining), when the tragedy struck on August 11.

In a forceful statement, ISODEC linked the incident to Ghana’s escalating illegal mining crisis, which it called an “existential threat” to the nation’s environment and future. The group highlighted widespread destruction of water bodies, biodiversity loss, and health hazards plaguing mining-affected communities. “This devastating incident underscores the need for decisive apolitical action,” ISODEC asserted, connecting the officials’ mission to the broader struggle against environmental degradation.

The organization demanded immediate enforcement of mining laws, including the urgent repeal of Act II 2462 and a crackdown on kingpins. It called for confiscating wealth derived from illegal operations, enhanced monitoring, and public accountability for all involved in the trade—directly or indirectly. ISODEC also pushed for accelerated rollout of sustainable community mining programs that prioritize environmental protection and local participation.

“Let us honor the departed by taking bold steps to protect our environment,” stated Executive Director Sam Danse, framing the tragedy as a catalyst for systemic change. The group emphasized that only rigorous, sustainable practices could balance economic needs with ecological preservation.

No immediate response has been issued by President Mahama’s administration. The appeal lands amid heightened scrutiny of illegal mining’s political ties following the deaths of high-ranking officials dedicated to combating it.

Kwesi Arthur and King Promise deliver on new Highlife-Amapiano anthem

Kwesi Arthur and King Promise have joined forces on play videoKwesi Arthur and King Promise have joined forces on

Ghanaian heavyweights Kwesi Arthur and King Promise have joined forces on “Real Thing”, a powerful new single blending the rhythmic flair of amapiano with the melodic undertones of highlife, wrapped in rich, synth-driven production.

Crafted by fast-rising producer Hylander, “Real Thing” showcases the dynamic synergy between two of West Africa’s most influential voices. King Promise opens with a smooth pre-hook and reflective verse, setting the tone with vulnerability and intent. Kwesi Arthur delivers a gripping chorus, anchoring the record with his signature grit and emotional depth.

The song’s creation is a story of persistence. A scheduled session at Small World Records in Accra was halted by a power outage. Refusing to lose momentum, the team regrouped at 5 Star’s home studio, only to face neighborhood noise complaints. When power returned and studio space opened up, they completed the record at Killbeatz’s studio, a process that reflects the very essence of the track: resilience, loyalty, and brotherhood.

“Real Thing” isn’t just a collaboration, it’s a cultural statement. It captures the pulse of modern Ghanaian music while honoring the roots that raised it. Through synth textures, amapiano drums, and heartfelt delivery, the track reflects the sound of a new generation grounded in West African excellence.

Now available on all streaming platforms, the single is accompanied by a vibrant music video celebrating the community, spirit, and drive behind the song.
