The song which was released on January 1, 2025, tackles the sensitive and controversial issue of Australia Day, celebrated annually on January 26

Return home, there’s peace in Bawku now – Upper East Regional Minister tells residents

0

The Upper East Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, has urged individuals who fled Bawku due to the ongoing conflict to begin returning, expressing optimism that peace is gradually being restored to the area.

He made the call while addressing the chiefs and people of the Kusaug traditional area during the celebration of the Samanpiid festival in Bawku.

The Samanpiid festival, celebrated by the Kusasi ethnic group, marks the end of the harvest season. It is a time for households to offer sacrifices to God, their ancestors, and the gods of the land for their guidance throughout the farming season. A durbar was introduced 37 years ago as part of this annual celebration, which has since become a key event in the Bawku traditional area.

This year’s Samanpiid festival, held at the Daduri Catholic Park in Bawku, was especially significant as it coincided with the 40th anniversary of Zugraan, Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II. The event attracted dignitaries from across the region, including a high-powered delegation from the Asantehene.

In his speech, Dr. Bin Salih expressed hope for the region’s recovery and encouraged all individuals and institutions that had fled the town due to the conflict to begin their return as peace takes hold once again.

“I want to appeal to those who fled to return as normalcy is gradually returning to Bawku. Nobody can bring peace to Bawku, it is you and me who can bring peace to Bawku. The presence of security personnel, imposition of curfew and ban on motor riding, among other measures, are only temporary measures,”
he stated.

In a speech read on his behalf by his secretary, the overlord of the Kusaug traditional area, Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II re-echoed his call for the creation of a new region in the Bawku area.

Some celebrants who spoke to Channel One News indicated they were delighted over the event.

Dominic Mbang is a resident of the United Kingdom who joined the people of the area for the festival. He emphasised the relevance of peace to the people and indicated the Curfew imposed on the area is necessary but evil.

“The curfew is very unfair to the people of Bawku, even though it is to our advantage for peace to continue. But I hope that when the new administration takes over on January 7, we hope that they will normalize things and there won’t be a curfew in Bawku,” he added.

During the courtesy call, the Asantehene commended the singer for her bravery and determination, which he described as a remarkable effort to place Ghana on the global stage through music.

Pay close attention to your prostate health – Duncan-Williams to middle-aged men

0

Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, General Overseer of the United Denominations of Action Chapel International, has urged middle-aged men to prioritize their prostate health.

Sharing his personal experience, the Archbishop revealed that early detection was crucial in his successful battle against prostate cancer, which remains a leading cause of death among black men.

Delivering this message during the 31st all-night service at Action Chapel on December 31, 2024, he emphasized the importance of regular medical check-ups and proactive health measures.

The sermon, which marked the crossover into the New Year, 2025, inspired congregants to adopt healthier lifestyles and seek timely medical attention.

“If you are 40 plus, make sure you are checking your prostate, you hear me? If you are 40 upwards, make sure you are checking your prostate. Check your prostate at least every three or six months.

“Prostate is one of the things that is killing Black men. I know some places that I can recommend to you too and they can help you and save your life. They saved my life, there are people standing here, I recommended them and they saved their lives.

“If I didn’t do the check I did at the time I did it, I wouldn’t be standing on my feet, I wouldn’t be here. Cut it at the right time, and the enemy has an agenda and it was hiding.”

GACL Shuts Down 4 Companies At Kotoka International Airport Over Debts

0

In a bid to recover outstanding debts, the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has embarked on a regular debt collection exercise, targeting companies operating at Kotoka International Airport.

The exercise, which takes place every month, aims to retrieve monies owed to GACL and round up debt collection for the year.

According to a press statement released by GACL, several companies have failed to honour their obligations, prompting the company to take drastic measures.

One such company is McDan Company Limited, which owes GACL a staggering $3,995,622.66 and GHS13,523.37.
Despite numerous letters and meetings, McDan has failed to settle its outstanding debts, which include rent and other fees for Terminal 1, as well as revenue returns covering the period September 1, 2022, to November 30, 2024.

However, in a recent development, McDan paid GHS2,000,000 on December 24, 2024, leaving a balance of $1,995,622.66 and GHS13,523.37.

GACL has rejected McDan’s request to hold on with the collection of payments, citing that the company has developed lands acquired from GACL without paying ground rent.

A previous payment plan presented by McDan in 2020 was defaulted, prompting GACL to demand full payment of monies owed.

The debt collection exercise has also resulted in the closure of four other companies operating at Kotoka International Airport.

GACL has vowed to continue pursuing all debts owed to the company, as it has done throughout the years.

The company’s management has urged all debtors to settle their outstanding debts to avoid any further action.

In a statement, GACL’s management emphasized its commitment to recovering all debts owed to the company.

“We will continue to pursue all debts as we have always done throughout the years to retrieve monies owed to GACL,” the statement read.

The debt collection exercise is expected to continue in the coming months, with GACL working to recover all outstanding debts owed to the company.

Pray and fast for the difficult task ahead of us – Mahama tells Ghanaians

0

Mr John Mahama, Ghana’s president-elect, says there is a difficult task ahead for the country following the outcome of the December 7 elections.

He has thus called on Ghanaians to demonstrate religious faith, particularly through prayers and fasting, to help the nation navigate the challenges ahead.

Mr Mahama explained that the campaign and election period was the easy part; however, the task ahead after he takes office will be more difficult, thus highlighting the need for support.

“The easy part is over – the campaign and the elections were the easier phases. Now the real work begins, so if we prayed and fasted for a successful election, now is the time to pray and fast even more, so that God will elevate our nation and make it the ‘Black Star’ of Africa again,” he said.

The incoming president made these remarks during an end-of-year sermon on December 31st at an Assemblies of God Church in Tamale.

He also called for collaboration to ensure that the country is governed in the right direction, stating that his party, the NDC, cannot achieve this alone.

Mr Mahama will be sworn into office next week following his landslide victory in the December 7 general elections.
