CEO of Midas Touch Entertainment, Kwabena Opoku Oppong, has supported the inmates of the Kumasi Children’s Home with the supply of essential food items and a cash donation.

The intervention is to help alleviate the daily struggles faced by the over 100 children in the care home. The Kumasi Children’s Home, established in 1996, is home to more than 100 underprivileged children and orphans, providing diverse care and support.

The government-run residential facility provides vulnerable children with essentials such as food, healthcare, shelter, education, and emotional support, largely relying on the benevolence of the public.

The CEO of Midas Touch Entertainment and entrepreneur, Kwabena Opoku Oppong, donated essential items to the home in memory of his late mother, Georgina Opoku.

He said the gesture reflected the deeds of his late mother. “My late mother was a woman of kindness, and in her memory, we have come to support the Kumasi Children’s Home, something she would have done herself. She believed that every child deserves love and care.

“This is just the beginning, and I invite individuals and organisations to give these children the care and hope they deserve. They are our future leaders, and together we can make their future bright,” he said.

The Kumasi Children’s Home was presented with items such as rice, cooking oil, toiletries, bottled water, stationery, beverages, and cash.

The Home Manager of Kumasi Children’s Home, Mabel Pinamang Boamah, says the intervention is timely. “On behalf of the kids and the management, we say a big thank you to the Opoku family. These items are essential, and they have come at the right time. We hope that God replenishes your pocket,” she said.

Apart from the donation, Mr. Opoku Oppong, in the company of family and friends, fraternised with the underprivileged children, leaving them with smiles.

Friends and loved ones, including musicians, Gyakie, and Rufftown management, have assisted in a pep talk with the children.

“Our mother was a staunch Christian and a giver. We want to continue her legacy. She has love for kids and the needy, and advises us to give,” Sandra Opoku, daughter of the late Georgina Opoku said.

The intervention, planned and executed by GS Concierge Limited, was lauded as outstanding and heartwarming.

Web Design Disputes, And How SMEs Can Protect Their Digital Assets (3)

0

Why Digital Asset Control Matters

Losing control over digital assets can have profound repercussions for SMEs, extending far beyond mere inconvenience to impact core business operations and viability.

1. Financial Consequences

The most immediate and quantifiable impact of losing digital asset control is financial. Website downtime directly results in missed sales opportunities, a particularly critical issue for e-commerce businesses where every minute of inaccessibility translates to lost revenue. Even brief periods of downtime can incur substantial financial losses, with studies showing many small and medium-sized businesses facing costs ranging from $10,000 to $40,000 per hour, and for a notable 10% of SMBs, these costs can exceed $50,000 per hour, according to a study by Uptimia on the impact of website downtime on businesses.

Regaining control of a website after a “hostage” situation or rebuilding it from scratch can entail significant recovery costs, including expenses for data retrieval, new development, and legal fees. Furthermore, the need to repurchase software licenses, pay “exit fees” to obtain source code, or engage legal counsel all contribute to unexpected and often substantial increases in operational expenses. Beyond immediate losses, recurring downtime or an inability to update and maintain the website can lead to customer attrition as frustrated clients migrate to competitors, resulting in long-term revenue erosion and hindering the business’s overall growth trajectory.

The financial impact of digital asset disputes is not confined to the “hostage” event itself but rather stems from a cascading series of failures that originate from a lack of fundamental control. An initial lack of clear ownership, such as a designer retaining control over a domain or software licenses, might initially appear to be a minor issue. However, this quickly leads to an inability to independently update or maintain the website. Outdated websites then become susceptible to security breaches or experience unexpected downtime. These periods of downtime and security compromises directly cause both immediate and long-term financial losses. Therefore, proactive measures to secure digital assets are not merely a matter of good practice but a critical financial safeguard.

2. Reputational Damage

Beyond financial implications, losing digital asset control can severely damage an SME’s reputation. Frequent website downtime or inaccessibility erodes customer trust and loyalty, as consumers begin to question the brand’s reliability and operational competence. Customers are considerably less likely to return to a website that has previously failed them. An unavailable or poorly functioning website can lead visitors to form a negative perception, associating the online issues with poor overall business performance. A survey indicated that 68% of UK consumers would develop a negative impression of a brand if its website was inaccessible when they attempted to visit it. And here in Ghana, we are familiar with the “bad government website never working”

Dissatisfied customers are quick to disseminate their negative experiences across social media, online forums, and review platforms, thereby damaging the brand’s reputation and deterring potential customers. This is particularly detrimental for SMEs operating in competitive markets, where online reputation plays a pivotal role in attracting and retaining clients. While website downtime and a general lack of control negatively affect brand perception and customer trust for any business, the vulnerability is amplified for SMEs. These businesses often possess smaller customer bases and rely heavily on positive word-of-mouth and online reviews for growth and market penetration. Consequently, negative experiences, especially when amplified through social media, can disproportionately harm an SME’s reputation compared to larger enterprises that may possess more resilient brand equity or diversified marketing channels. For SMEs, reputational damage stemming from digital asset issues is not merely a setback; it can pose an existential threat, as their smaller scale makes them more susceptible to the amplified negative effects of a compromised online presence.

3. Operational Disruptions

The inability to control digital assets directly translates into significant operational disruptions. Without proper administrative access to the CMS, website source code, or essential software licenses, SMEs cannot perform critical tasks such as updating content, rectifying bugs, or applying vital security patches, leaving their website stagnant, vulnerable, and potentially non-compliant.

If the domain, hosting, or source code is held hostage, migrating the website to a new provider becomes an exceedingly complex, if not impossible, undertaking, often necessitating a complete rebuild of the digital presence. This not only incurs additional costs but also results in prolonged periods of inoperability. The inability to access or manage critical online infrastructure directly impacts daily business operations, affecting everything from customer service, if online forms or support portals are down, to sales and marketing activities, if the primary website is inaccessible.

A lack of control over core digital assets, including the domain, hosting, and underlying code, prevents routine updates, essential security patches, and effective content management. This inevitably leads to an outdated, insecure, or non-functional website. Such a compromised foundational platform directly undermines any digital marketing, SEO, or e-commerce strategy. Digital asset control is thus not solely about legal ownership; it is fundamentally about maintaining the operational integrity and strategic agility of the entire online business. Losing control over these assets can effectively cripple an SME’s digital transformation efforts and its competitive positioning in the marketplace.

My mentor, you showed me the way but left me lonely – Deputy Defence Minister mourns Omane Boamah

Deputy Minister of Defence, Brogya Genfi,

Tribute by Deputy Defence Minister Ernest Brogya Genfi in honour of Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah

You believed it is God who lifts women and men.

You believed it was God who orchestrated every moment—including the time I was assigned as your deputy.

You held me close, and in trust, offered me opportunities, and deliberately delegated responsibilities that gave me the vantage of a principal, even while I remained your subordinate—just so I could build experience and sharpen my skills.

Boss, it is so difficult to accept that you are no more. How does one make peace with the thought that his friend, brother, mentor, and role model is in a better place when there was no prior arrangement, no whisper of farewell—only a sudden departure, a sudden flight, and an aching void where your voice used to be?

Oh Boss, it is true that you lived fully—with cheer and cordiality toward all you encountered. You were excellent and unwavering in your commitment to our nation.

You poured yourself  wholly into your work, giving your best in every

season, and leaving a legacy that will outlive the span of your years. Though tragedy has cut your journey short, you spent it entirely in the line of duty—faithful to the very end.

Am I to accept that your presence and wise counsel can be traded for comfort in the greatness of your legacy, as tragedy has compelled me to? Tell me.

This tragedy has tested me. Yet I am left with gratitude for having shared a piece of the gift of your life. I am left with hope in the promise of the resurrection.

You gave your life to Ghana, and I strongly believe Ghana will never forget. Your legacy is etched in the fabric of our nation’s defence, and in the hearts of those you mentored. I will honour you not only in grief but also in duty.

You showed me the way but left me lonely on the way at a time I least expected.

Rest well, Mentor. Your mission is complete. Boss, Kafra! Due ne Amanhenu! Amen.

Minister threatens sanctions against MMDAs over delay in returning DRIP Machinery

0

By Solomon Gumah

Tamale, Aug. 15, GNA – Mr Ali Adolf John, Northern Regional Minister, has threatened to sanction Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the region that fail to promptly return District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) equipment after use.

He said the prolonged retention of the machinery by some Assemblies was depriving others of access and frustrating the programme’s goal of improving road infrastructure across the region.

Mr John gave the warning in Tamale during the opening ceremony of a two-day orientation for newly appointed District DRIP Coordinators from the Northern and Savannah Regions.

The training aimed to build the capacity of coordinators to manage the programme’s heavy and expensive equipment efficiently.

The Minister revealed that the Northern Regional Coordinating Council (NRCC) had taken delivery of six wheel loaders, two low beds, two bulldozers and other machines to be stationed at the RCC for use by any MMDA upon request.

He, however, expressed concern that some Assemblies had been reluctant to return the equipment after use, citing the Zabzugu District Assembly’s year-long hold on a wheel loader as an example.

He tasked the newly appointed Regional DRIP Coordinator, Mr Seidu Seini, to ensure the immediate return of the wheel loader to the NRCC by the close of the week, in the same condition it was released, warning that failure to comply would attract punitive action.

Mr John further urged the new district coordinators to ensure transparency, accountability, technical efficiency, safety, environmental responsibility and community engagement in their work.

He assured them of the NRCC’s readiness to support them in overcoming operational challenges, provided they adhered to the right procedures.

The DRIP is a government initiative aimed at equipping MMDAs with machinery, technical expertise and resources to rehabilitate, maintain and construct local roads, particularly in rural communities with poor road networks that limit access to markets, schools, health facilities and other essential services.

NDC Used, Dumped Shatta Wale – Okatakyie Afrifa

0

Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah, Shatta Wale

Media personality, Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah, has alleged that dancehall star, Shatta Wale, was used by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for political gain and later abandoned.

Speaking on his programme in a video shared on X on August 14, 2025, Afrifa-Mensah claimed that Shatta campaigned for John Mahama and the NDC ahead of the 2024 elections, helping them secure power.

He further alleged that after the party’s victory, the government has been using the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to silence the musician.

“They have used Shatta Wale and dumped him… Now EOCO is being used to shut him up so he cannot criticise the government,” he said.

The comments come amid ongoing controversy between Shatta Wale and EOCO, which began in June 2025 when EOCO seized a 2019 Lamborghini Urus from his residence in Trassaco Valley, Accra.

EOCO, acting on a request from the FBI and U.S. Department of Justice, said the car was linked to Nana Kwabena Amuah, a Ghanaian American serving an 86-month prison term in the United States for a $4.7 million fraud scheme.

The agency stated the vehicle was purchased with proceeds from the crime and was needed for victim restitution.

Shatta Wale has denied any involvement in the fraud, saying he bought the vehicle for $150,000 from Kwabena Adu-Boahene, a former National Signals Bureau officer, and had no knowledge of its alleged criminal ties.

He also accused EOCO of staging an “armed raid” on his home, a claim EOCO refuted, stating the seizure was peaceful and that the musician voluntarily surrendered the car to protect his image.

‘I’m looking forward to welcoming you back home’ – Wife of Late NDC Vice Chairman – Citinewsroom – Comprehensive News in Ghana

Hannah Sarpong, the wife of the late National Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Sarpong, has delivered an emotional tribute to her husband, expressing her struggle to accept his passing.

Speaking at an interdenominational state funeral on Friday, August 15, Mrs. Sarpong recalled her husband’s final words to her before embarking on what he described as “a return journey.” She said, “I am still looking forward to welcoming you back home, my dear husband.”

Her remarks formed part of a tribute titled “To My Dearest Friend,” in which she described Mr. Sarpong as a man of strength, wisdom, and compassion who gave his all to his family, his people, and his country.

Samuel Sarpong was among eight people who lost their lives in the August 6 military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region. The accident also claimed the lives of Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation; former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye; and Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator.

The crew members who perished were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
Below is the full text of the tribute by Samuel Sarpong’s wife, titled “To My Dearest Friend.”

“My beloved husband, my dearest friend, my steadfast pillar, it’s with the heaviest of hearts that I share this tribute. I am still struggling to accept that you are truly gone. You were not just my husband. You were my partner in every sense of the word. You stood by me in love, in faith, and under very extreme difficult circumstances. You challenged me to walk through the journey of life.

You were a man of strength, wisdom, and compassion for me and the family. I watched with admiration as you gave your all to your family, your people, and your country. But more than your public service, it was your love and devotion at home that made you truly extraordinary.

You made our home a place of peace, a kingdom of life, and a home of happiness that breeds and reinforces the bond of family unity. You cared for us with such gracious love and led us with such a determined heart. You prayed with us, dreamed with us, and stood by us no matter the season.

I will forever cherish the quiet moments we shared, the dreams we built together, and the love we nurtured over the years. Your absence is a deep wound in my heart, but your love is still my comfort.

I remember the call you put through to me in the early hours of that faithful and dark Wednesday, indicating that you were leaving for Obuasi on a national assignment.

You said it was a return journey. I am still looking forward to welcoming you back home, my dear husband.

Your departure was so sudden that I still cannot believe it. The news of your departure continues to cut through my very nerves, leaving a vacuum of unimaginable pain in my heart.

Oh, Sarpong Kumankuma, do hear my call and come back. Tell me this news is not true.

The day is gloomy, the sun is gone, the weather is thick, darkness is falling, and the space is empty. Hear our voice, hear the voice of your beloved wife and children, my dear husband.

We can still hear the sound of your footsteps around the house, offering protection for the family. Your presence represented hope, your words breed love, and your work produces joy and happiness.

You ran a good race, my husband. May the doors of heaven be open for you until we meet again. Rest well, my dear husband.

Sarpong Kumankuma, nanti yie.
Damirefa due.”

Farmers’ group pushes for licensing to protect markets and consumers – Citinewsroom – Comprehensive News in Ghana

A group of farmers under the banner “The Concerned Farmers Association of Ghana” is urging the formal licensing and training of farmers.

The warn that unsafe agrochemical use and outdated practices are eroding consumer trust and threatening Ghana’s standing in lucrative export markets.

The Association argues that farming should be regulated like medicine, law, or teaching — where practitioners are certified and accountable.

Without such measures, they say, contaminated produce could trigger health crises at home and costly rejection of Ghanaian goods abroad.

In an interview with Citi Business News, President of the Association Nana Oboadie Boateng Bonsu stressed that with agriculture contributing billions of cedis to GDP and employing a large share of Ghana’s workforce, the stakes are too high to allow substandard practices to persist.

“The Concerned Farmers Association of Ghana is calling on all Farmer-Based Organisations (FBOs) to come together to regulate the farming profession. This call is due to concerns about the abuse of agrochemicals on crops and poor agricultural practices,” the group said.

Asserting that : “Farming is a profession like medicine, teaching, or law. Just as professionals like lawyers or doctors require licenses and training, farmers should receive proper training and licensing to operate.”

The group added that:”Proper training and regulation can help reduce health implications for people consuming produce from farms using unsafe practices.”

The wife of the late Dr Omane Boamah, Rita Boamah The wife of the late Dr Omane Boamah, Rita Boamah

Rita Omane Boamah, the wife of the late Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, shared touching memories of their life together at the final funeral rite at the Black Star Square.

In a tribute read on her behalf at the final funeral rite on August 15, 2025, she recalled meeting her husband for the first time on a Medical School bus.

She also reminisced about their favourite night walks to buy kenkey and fish, describing them as moments that deepened their bond.

Recounting moments when he was alive, he often asked me, “Abena Rita what will you do when I am not around”.

“I never answered and till today I don’t have an answer.”

Dr Omane Boamah was one of eight people who died in the Ghana Air Force Z-9 helicopter crash at Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region on August 6, 2025.

The delegation was travelling to Obuasi to attend the launch of the Responsible Community and Cooperative Mining Programme when the crash occurred.

‘Daddy, why did you leave us so soon?’ – The emotional tribute of Dr Omane Boamah’s children

Read full tribute below

When peace like a river attended my way, when sorrow like sea billows roll, whatever my Lord, thou has taught me to say, it is well with my soul.

KB, as I affectionately called you, we were destined to be together. Though I was not a medical student, fate brought us together on that fateful day when I boarded the Medical School bus.

Our friendship started and was nothing short of love and adventure. Our night walk from my home to buy Kenkey and fish and vice versa. I always looked forward to visiting you in school so we could embark on our love walk to buy kenkey and fish. Thus, our walk to buy kenkey and fish became our hallmark.

In fact, I saw a father in you because you were the exact replica of my dad. You also confirmed to me, when you first met my dad, that you knew you had found in me a partner for life.

I had no doubt you will be a loving and perfect father to our children. You were truly God-sent. Your commitment and love was such that you proposed we got married on my birthday. And we have always had a double celebration on my birthday, which I was looking forward to this year also.

When we started having kids, you were a wonderful father. You were a great source of hope to me and the children. Despite your busy schedule as a medical doctor and later in your political roles, you either bathed the children every morning or dressed them up while I bathed them.

You were their favourite teacher because you knew their syllabus back-to-back. You always had a strict timetable for their private studies yet you made room for their play and adventure. You were truly a family man- the definition of a genuine person with a pure heart of gold.

In our years of marriage, you always asked, Abena Rita, what will you do when I am not around? I never answered and till today I don’t have an answer.

I will, with the help of God, take care of mummy and the three kids. Knowing who you are, I believe you will be looking down on us to guide us through the heavens.

Kofi B, thank you for loving me.

Thank you for loving the children.

Fix energy and cocoa sectors to safeguard economy

0

Cocoa is one of Ghana’s key sources of income Cocoa is one of Ghana’s key sources of income

The World Bank has said Ghana must urgently address challenges in its energy and cocoa sectors to sustain economic growth and stability.

In its latest report, the Bank warned that poor management of state-owned enterprises and declining export revenues could reverse recent economic gains.

It stressed the need for energy sector reforms, including increased private sector participation, to enhance efficiency and improve revenue collection.

“Energy sector reform, including through private sector participation, is urgent to improve management effectiveness and the collection of energy revenues,” the report stated.

Cocoa, one of Ghana’s key sources of income, also faces significant risks due to volatile global prices, low productivity, and the impact of climate change. Without targeted interventions, these issues could weaken the economy.

Although Ghana’s economy grew by 5.7% in 2024 and 5.3% in early 2025, the report projects a slowdown to 3.9% this year, driven by high interest rates, inflation, and global uncertainties.

The World Bank advised Ghana to maintain fiscal discipline, enhance the efficiency of public spending, and create more jobs, particularly for young people while boosting productivity in agriculture, manufacturing, and services.

Addressing the energy and cocoa sector challenges, the report concluded, is essential not only to protect the economy but also to unlock new opportunities for growth.

‘It’s coming home’ – The undignified row over the body of Zambia’s ex-president

0

“It’s coming home!” – a phrase indelibly linked to English football fans – has now gained currency among some Zambians in the battle over what to do with the body of former President Edgar Lungu.

The 68-year-old died two months ago in South Africa where he was being treated for an undisclosed illness.

In the latest episode of what is now a full-blown saga, a Pretoria court ruled in the Zambian government’s favour, saying that in the public interest, Lungu’s remains can be repatriated and given a state funeral, against the wishes of the family.

The decision triggered celebrations among some governing party supporters, who shared Facebook posts with the phrase: “It’s coming home,” as if Zambia had won a trophy.

An undignified response, perhaps, but it has come to symbolise how divisive and partisan this has become.

For some, who are fed up with the row, the sorrow and grief that came with Lungu’s passing have faded into feelings of fatigue.

But despite a host of more pressing economic problems, public discussions continue to be dominated by the fallout from the death of the former president, who led the country for six years from 2015.

The seeds of the controversy were sown in the feud between Lungu and his successor – the man who soundly beat him in the 2021 election – Hakainde Hichilema. But it has now spiralled into a row laced with wild accusations of witchcraft.

When the judge in South Africa made his ruling last week, the ensuing anger from Lungu’s older sister was telling.

Bertha Lungu burst into a fit of rage, crying uncontrollably as she hurled unsavoury words at Zambia’s Attorney General Mulilo Kabesha, who was also present in court.

“Kabesha, Lungu is not your father’s son… he’s not Hakainde’s son… This is really painful. I don’t want to go to Zambia,” she cried as people, including her niece, Tasila Lungu, struggled to comfort her and cover her mouth.

The body has not yet been repatriated to Zambia because the Lungu family is appealing against the South African judge’s decision – a case that is due to be heard on Monday.

This was all supposed to have been settled in June, when the family initially agreed that there could be a state funeral in Zambia. But the plans were scuppered over a dispute about what role President Hichilema would play.

Lungu’s family said one of his dying wishes was that Hichilema should not go anywhere near his body.

The key to understanding the animosity was the more than 100 days that Hichilema, opposition leader at the time, spent in detention in 2017, awaiting trial on treason charges.

He was accused of endangering the life of then-President Lungu after his motorcade allegedly refused to give way to the one transporting the head of state.

The charges were only dropped after the intervention of the secretary general of the Commonwealth. This was one of several times that Hichilema was arrested while he was in the opposition.

In turn, the Lungus have alleged persecution under Hichilema. Tasila and the former president’s widow, Esther, continue to face corruptions charges, which they deny.

Lungu’s family have vowed that they are prepared to wait for the court process as long as it takes to ensure he receives a burial they consider dignified, even if it means stalling the process, according to their spokesperson Makebi Zulu.

They insist that while they were open to burying Lungu in Zambia, they want to honour his wishes that Hichilema should not attend the event.

But the authorities are adamant that the former president should be accorded a state funeral to be attended by his successor and given a proper send-off as a former president.

The government, through the attorney general, has even indicated Lungu may have to be buried without the family’s involvement.

“If they want to set a precedent, let them give us reasons why the current president should not go near the casket. And who has told them that he wants to be near the casket, anyway?” he told the state broadcaster ZNBC.

“We are ready as government to discuss with the family, we will never ignore the family unless the family just walks out… but the family has a right to say: ‘We are not coming, we are not part of it.’ Then we will proceed and bury without them.”

There is no Zambian law that stipulates how former presidents should be buried.

Traditionally, all ex-leaders have been accorded state funerals and buried at Embassy Park, which is specifically reserved for them.

Sishuwa Sishuwa, a Zambian historian and senior lecturer at South Africa’s Stellenbosch University, strongly disagrees with the idea that Lungu could be buried without his family’s involvement.

“Such reckless statements are culturally insensitive, undermine the government’s claims that its actions are motivated by the desire to accord Lungu a dignified burial, and indicate that political considerations rather than public interest are the key drivers at play,” he told the BBC.

“The failure by Hichilema to rein in on the unruly conduct of his officials and supporters has fed public perception that the president approves of such conduct and consequently heightened divisions.”

He argues that had Hichilema publicly indicated that he would stay away from the funeral, Lungu would have been buried long ago.

Dr Sishuwa says that the authorities’ determination to take the body of Lungu from the grieving family – in the name of giving him a dignified funeral – has not only worsened political divisions but has also fed the belief that the body may be wanted “for occult reasons”, in a country where the belief in witchcraft is widespread.

Nevers Mumba, the leader of the Movement for Multiparty Democracy, which is in a political alliance with Hichilema’s party, has defended the president.

“What drives [the president] is not obsession, but a deep, deep sense of duty. Hakainde Hichilema never gives up on anything he pursues as long as he believes he is doing the right thing,” Mumba, who is also a pastor, wrote on his Facebook page.

“He fights, with a clear conscience till the end, and he keeps on refining his methods until he gets it right.”

How long this fight will go on for is not known, but several episodes of the saga are yet to be written.

Zambians may shrug and try to focus on other matters, but they will still get drawn into the debate about whether the body should “come home”.

Okatakyie Afrifa Claims Government Targeting Shatta Wale, Offers Advice to Dancehall Star

News Hub Creator4h

Political commentator Okatakyie Afrifa has stirred public debate with claims that Ghana’s ruling government may be intentionally working to undermine the career of renowned dancehall artist Shatta Wale. In a recent statement, Afrifa alleged that there are covert efforts aimed at damaging the musician’s image and professional trajectory.

While he did not provide concrete evidence to back these assertions, his comments have triggered mixed reactions across social media and within political and entertainment circles.

Afrifa described the alleged actions as politically motivated and cautioned Shatta Wale to remain alert. He urged the artist to keep records of all engagements with state authorities and to consult legal professionals when necessary.

The political analyst framed his advice as a necessary response to what he termed “political persecution,” suggesting that high-profile figures in the entertainment industry are not exempt from state pressure.

These claims come at a time when Shatta Wale has faced several legal and regulatory challenges, including previous arrests and public disputes with entertainment oversight bodies. While Afrifa’s accusations have resonated with some fans and observers who believe the artist is being treated unfairly, others have dismissed the remarks as unsubstantiated and speculative.

No official response has been issued by government spokespersons regarding the allegations, and Shatta Wale has yet to publicly comment on the matter.

The controversy has reignited broader conversations about the intersection of politics and the creative arts in Ghana. Many are questioning whether entertainers are being subjected to undue scrutiny or targeted for their influence and outspokenness.

Afrifa’s comments have added fuel to a longstanding debate over artistic freedom, state control, and the challenges artists face in navigating public life. Whether the matter gains further traction may depend on whether Shatta Wale chooses to respond or if new developments emerge.

Gorgeous Ankara Styles for Church and Special Occasions

0

When attending church or special events, it is important to dress in a way that shows respect and elegance. Fashion has changed over time, and now there are many beautiful and stylish options for women. These outfits help women feel confident, decent, and classy.

One popular style is the dress and coat combo. A knee-length or midi dress made from silk, satin, or lace looks great with a nice fitted coat. The dress can be in soft colors like navy, burgundy, or pastels. The coat adds warmth and style, making the whole outfit more polished.

Another lovely option is the peplum dress. This dress shape highlights the waist and gives a smart, modern look. Many peplum dresses have lace, beads, or ruffles, making them perfect for weddings or church services. You can pair this dress with a small clutch bag or bold earrings.

For those who like simple and covered styles, the maxi dress is a great choice. These long dresses often come with long sleeves and high necklines. Fabrics like cotton, chiffon, or silk make them comfortable and elegant. Adding a shawl or cardigan can complete the outfit beautifully.

Structured suits are also coming back in style. A suit with a pencil skirt gives a strong and professional look. These often come in bright colors like emerald green or blue and can be worn with hats or scarves.

Finally, accessories complete the look. Hats with flowers or beads are very trendy again. Simple jewelry like pearls, gold chains, or brooches add a classy touch.

In short, church and event fashion today is all about being elegant, modest, and stylish. Whether you wear a dress or suit, you can look your best and feel great.

Tribute by wife of Late Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah – Citinewsroom – Comprehensive News in Ghana

Mrs. Rita Omane Boamah, the widow of the late Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has paid a heartfelt tribute to her husband.

She honoured his memory on Friday, August 15, during an interdenominational state funeral held for the eight distinguished individuals who perished in the tragic helicopter crash.

Dr. Omane Boamah lost his life alongside seven others on August 6 in a helicopter crash at a forested location in Sikaman, within the Adansi Akrofrom District of the Ashanti Region. The team was en route to Obuasi to launch the government’s Cooperative Mining Initiative when the accident occurred.

The other victims of the crash were: Minister for Environment, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Muniru Mohammed; NDC Vice Chairman, Dr. Samuel Sarpong; Deputy NADMO Director-General and former parliamentary candidate, Samuel Aboagye; and three Air Force personnel: Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

Below is the full tribute from Dr. Omane Boamah’s wife, Mrs. Rita Omane Boamah:

It is well, it is well
With my soul, with my soul,
It is well, it is well
With my soul.

Kofi B! as I affectionately called you! We were destined to be together! Though I was not a medical student, fate brought us together on that fateful day when I boarded the medical school bus.

Our friendship started and was nothing short of love and adventure. Our night walks from my home to buy kenkey and fish, and vice versa.

I always looked forward to visiting you in school so we would embark on our walk to buy kenkey and fish. Thus, buying and eating kenkey together became our hallmark. I have no doubt you would be a loving and perfect father of our children.

In fact, I saw a father in you because you were the exact replica of my father. You also confirmed that when you met my dad, the first time. You knew that you had a partner for life.

You were truly God sent. Your commitment and love were such that when you proposed, we got married on my birthday, and we have always had a double celebration on my birthdays, and I was hoping the same for this year too.

When we started having kids, you were nothing short of a wonderful father. You were a great source of hope to me and the children. Despite your busy schedule as a Doctor and later in your political roles, you either bathed the children every morning or dressed them up while I bathed them.

You were their favourite teacher, because you knew all their syllabus back to back. You always had a strict timetable for their studies, but made room for play and adventures.

You were truly a family man, a definition of a genuine person with a pure heart of gold. In our years of marriage, you always asked, “Abena Rita, what will you do when I am not around?”. I never answered you, and till today I don’t have an answer.

I will, with God’s help, take care of mummy and our three kids, knowing who you are, I believe you will be looking down on us to guide us through from the heavens.

Kofi B! Thank you for loving me, thank you for loving the children, thank you for loving my family and all who came to know you. God be with you till we meet again.

Rest in Power my love!

NPP Will Give Me Mandate To Lead – Adutwum

0

Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum

Former Minister of Education and Member of Parliament (MP) for Bosomtwe, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has declared his readiness to lead the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2028 general election, expressing confidence that delegates will choose him as the party’s flagbearer in January 2026.

Yesterday, a group of students benefiting from the Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum Foundation, accompanied by NPP supporters, picked up his nomination forms at the party’s headquarters in Accra as a gesture of support.

Speaking on their behalf, Prosper Opoku praised Dr. Adutwum’s achievements at the Ministry of Education, describing him as a leader capable of steering the country’s development across all sectors.

Addressing the media after receiving the forms, Dr. Adutwum said: “We are on track, and by the grace of God, I believe my party will vote for me and make me the flagbearer of the NPP.”

He joins a competitive race that includes former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, and former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong. The NPP presidential primaries are scheduled for January 31, 2026.

Dr. Adutwum, who served under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, said his campaign would focus on unity, innovation, and transformational leadership. He stressed that winning the 2028 elections would be the start of a national renewal.

“And after that, I will be on the journey to the promised land – the land our nation has been yearning for. Ghana will become a prosperous nation that wages war against poverty and wins. Poverty and deprivation will be over,” he declared.

Outlining his vision, he said the 2028 campaign would be about building a stronger, more self-reliant nation. “From our first president to the current president, each has contributed to our progress. Yet, we still have a lot to do, and that is what an Adutwum presidency will be about,” he stated.

“My party, give me the opportunity. Provide a bridge for me to cross to the other side. And once we get to the other side of the river, we are going to meet Ghanaians and let Ghanaians know that our future is going to be better than the present and the past,” he added.

In an exclusive interview with the DAILY GUIDE during the NPP’s National Conference at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, Dr. Adutwum pledged to run a clean campaign. “My campaign will be based on unity and positive engagement. I will not attack any contender, and my team will avoid negative campaigning. That will help bring everyone together after the contest,” he said, warning that divisive tactics risk leaving lasting bitterness.

He positioned himself as a bridge between generations, with a particular appeal to young voters. “Gen Zs, I’m here, and we’re here to work together. Your issues will be my issues,” he told delegates.

Drawing on his 26 years in the United States, where he founded New Designs Charter Schools and secured Wall Street funding to expand quality education, earning U.S. Congressional recognition, he said education reform must be the foundation of economic growth.

Citing China, Singapore, and South Korea, he argued that industrialisation follows strategic investment in education, particularly in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). He promised to expand STEM and technical training, link education to industrialisation, modernise agriculture, improve healthcare, and promote good governance.

“When the time comes, I will step forward as a unifying leader with new ideas to take Ghana forward,” he concluded, urging delegates and the Ghanaian public to rally behind his vision.

U.S. to assist Ghana investigate deadly Helicopter crash – Ablakwa reveals

0

Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has confirmed that Ghana has formally requested assistance from the United States in conducting forensic investigations into the August 6 helicopter crash that claimed eight lives.

“I can confirm to you that on the instruction of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, we have formally requested the Americans to come in and assist.

“We all know that they have considerable expertise when it comes to these matters, and so the indication we have received from the Americans is that they are very much willing to assist,” the North Tongu MP disclosed in an interview with Joy News.

Mr. Ablakwa stressed the importance of an independent probe, even though the Chinese manufacturers of the helicopter could decode the aircraft’s black box and submit a report.

“We think that it is important to bring in independent experts to ensure that the outcome of the investigations will be acceptable to all, so that there will also be confidence in the process.

“It is important that this process is done in a very thorough manner, in a manner that will be at par with best practice, the international gold standard. That is what President Mahama wants us to achieve.

“So I can assure you that our note has long been issued. The Americans have responded, and we are expecting the arrival of American experts soon to help us with the investigations,” he added.

Defence Minister Dr. Omane Boamah was among eight people who lost their lives in the August 6 military helicopter crash. The accident also claimed the lives of Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation; former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye; National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong; and Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator.

The crew members who perished were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

A state funeral for the victims is scheduled for Friday, August 15, in Accra. However, Dr. Murtala Muhammed and Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed have already been laid to rest according to Islamic rites.

Every NDC member is a potential human sacrifice due to Asiedu Nketiah’s vow – Kwamena Duncan

Former Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan, has alleged that every member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) is a “potential human sacrifice” due to what he describes as a “standing declaration” made by the party’s chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah.

Speaking on a panel discussion on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo morning show on Thursday, August 14, 2025, Duncan referenced Proverbs 18:21, stating, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it shall eat its fruit.”

He explained that his comment stems from a public statement Asiedu Nketiah allegedly made in the past, in which he said the NDC was ready to sacrifice “anything and everything, including human lives,” for the party’s cause.

“At the time he made that statement, he had the potential to carry it out. When you declare such a thing to the whole world and it still stands unrevoked, it becomes a standing declaration of human sacrifice, which makes every NDC member a potential victim,” Duncan asserted.

‘We thank you for withdrawing from Tamale Central by-election but we are contesting Akwatia’ – Nketiah

His comments were made in the context of the recent military helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, which claimed the lives of several high-profile government officials and military personnel.

Speaking during the 10th National Delegates Congress of the NDC on December 17, 2022, Asiedu Nketiah stated, “You, the delegates of our party, have given us the mandate to secure the second independence of Ghana.

“We know the path will not be smooth, but we will stand up to the challenge, and we are prepared to sacrifice everything, and I mean everything, including our lives, to make sure this country is delivered.”

The crash involved a Z-9 helicopter belonging to the Ghana Armed Forces and resulted in the deaths of, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence, Dr Murtala Mohammed Ibrahim, Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Samuel Sarpong, former Central Regional Minister and Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate.

The helicopter crew also perished in the crash: Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Malin Twum-Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo, has disclosed that Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna was one of the people who guided him by way of advice.

In an interview with TV3 on the sideline of the StateFuneral for the eight fallen heroes, who perished in a helicopter crash in Adansi in the Ashanti Region on August 6, he lamented what a vacuum the loss of the government officials and the military personnel has left in his heart.

“Alhaji Limuna was a quiet personality. You would hardly see him talk but sometimes, when I go wrong, he calls me to advise me. Alhaji Limuna was my go-to person for advice,” he said.

He added that the call to public service is a huge sacrifice that cannot be overlooked.

“When you’re in government office, you virtually give up your life for the state. I called Kwame Agbodza recently to visit him, but he says he’s at work by 6am and the last to get home because of the hefty demands of public service.

“While in the middle of such huge tasks, you may take some decisions that may not be well received by everybody; you do not know everything, so it’s likely to step on toes. We must be thoughtful of their service to the state,” he said.

He added that Dr Omane Boamah and Dr Murtala Mohammed were fantastic individuals who worked assiduously to help realise the goals of the government.

“Unfortunately, we have lost them for good, but we have to brave up and move forward,” he said.

We can reduce oil bill by producing fuel from waste plastics – Prof Dankwah

0

Professor James R Dankwah Professor James R Dankwah

A Professor of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Tarkwa, in the Western Region, Professor James R Dankwah, has stated that Ghana can reduce its energy bills by producing fuels from waste plastics.

“The production of fuels like diesel and petrol from waste plastics would accrue huge savings for the energy sector,” he said.

He added that, “Waste plastics have both advantages and disadvantages, but those disadvantages will come if you fail to manage them efficiently. We can set up, for example, an oil-making industry in Ghana based solely on plastics and other raw materials in Ghana. Let me throw this challenge to the government.”

Prof Dankwah was delivering an inaugural lecture at UMaT on Wednesday, on the topic: Waste Plastics, a Modern-Day Resource Paradox: Leveraging its Positive Attributes for an Environmentally Sustainable Metals Production.

He said globally, the annual production of plastics had witnessed progressive growth from 2 Mt in 1950 to 400 Mt in 2022, at an annual growth rate of 8.4 per cent.

Furthermore, Prof Dankwah, who is also the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Mining and Minerals Technology at UMaT, said over 350 Mt of plastic waste were generated annually with just 9 per cent recycled while the rest was either landfilled, incinerated, or disposed of illegally.

He indicated that waste plastics contain both carbon and hydrogen, which are known reductants for the production of metals from their oxides.

He detailed results from the production of various metals iron, manganese, copper from their ores using various ‘waste’ plastic materials, adding that the use of waste plastics resulted in a significant decrease in CO₂ emissions.

“The potential for energy savings is demonstrated through the replacement of CO₂ with synthetic gas. How can we leverage the plastic waste for the use of society? Ghana can take the advantages,” Prof Dankwah noted.

Waste plastics, he emphasised, had huge potential for various fuels, and that, globally, four per cent of all the crude oil produced was used in producing plastics, through the process of polymerisation.

However, he explained that currently, UMaT researchers use the reverse, called a depolymerisation process, to turn all the plastic waste back into liquids to produce fuels like kerosene and aviation or jet fuels.

Mpreover, Prof Dankwah underlined that with the current cost of energy, the government could take advantage of these sources of electricity, enhance cost savings in the energy sector, and improve availability and efficiency.

“Currently, we are also working on how to use the same plastic waste to produce the premix fuel used by fishermen. This will be of huge benefit to Ghana. This technology, where we turn all the plastic waste into fuel, can be sold at about 50 per cent to 70 per cent of the normal fuel price, so that we can cut down on the cost of electricity in Ghana,” he revealed.

The decision of the players has been accepted by the club and the donation will be made to the family of the late Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva.

This remarkable display of solidarity highlights the football community’s compassion and support in times of tragedy.

The former boxer interacted with the business mogul in the local dialect, Ga, as he made his request in his usual humorous and charismatic style. To make his plea convincing, he talked about his wife, Akorkor Martha, who was seated close by.

Richard Quaye, known for his philanthropic gestures, obliged and handed Bukom Banku a GH¢20 bundle right on the spot, totalling GH¢2000. The crowd erupted in excitement, with many capturing the moment on their phones.

‘Daddy, why are you running away into eternity’ – Children of Late NDC Vice Chair – Citinewsroom – Comprehensive News in Ghana

0

The children of the late National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Chairman, Samuel Sarpong, broke down emotionally as they delivered a heartfelt tribute at the interdenominational state funeral on Friday, August 15.

Sarpong, who died in the August 6 military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region, left behind five children – four boys and one girl.

He was among eight victims of the accident, which also claimed the lives of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah; Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation; former parliamentary candidate Obuasi East, Samuel Aboagye; and Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator.

The crew members who perished were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

In their tribute, the children said:

“It is hard to put into words what you meant to us. You were more than a father. You were our hero, our role model, our anchor, our friend, and our greatest teacher.

You lived your life with purpose, dignity, and an unwavering sense of duty, not just to us, your children, but to your community and the nation, Ghana. We saw how tirelessly you worked, how passionately you served, and how deeply you loved everyone around you.

Your calm composure and respect for time at public events speak volumes about a man who saw public service as a call to duty.

At home, you were gentle, wise, and warm. Your laughter filled our hearts, and your words always pointed us in the right direction. You didn’t just tell us how to live but also showed us the way, through your integrity, humility, and strength.

The news of your departure pierced us through the veins and bones with a sudden wave of shock that we still cannot accept. We cannot believe that you are leaving us at this stage.

Though your unbelievable departure has left a void no one can ever fill, your legacy lives on in us. We carry your name with pride, your dreams in our hearts, and your lessons in our actions.
Your words of love and compassion shall forever remain fresh in our memories.

We believe in your vision, take inspiration from your fatherly advice, and admire your character as a true father and ultimate provider. You did your best. You led us through challenging moments. You made the needed investment in us as your children.

Time was fast approaching for us to keep you away from work and make you stay home, and also reflect upon your youthful moments as we feed you. Yet, Daddy, you are running away into eternity. Daddy, why?
You never rested until this day. You set an enviable standard for Sarpong’s family. Your footprints shall forever remain a pointer along which the family walks with admiration.
You ran your race with pride and honour.

At this moment of grief and sorrow, may the angels of heaven open the doors for you until we meet again.
Daddy, you have paid your dues. Rest well, Daddy.
Rest in peace. Daddy, nanti yie.
Damirefa Due.”

President Mahama to lead ruthless onslaught against galamsey — Ablakwa

0

President John Dramani Mahama will lead a ruthless campaign against illegal mining like never been seen, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has said.

He said the President, together with Cabinet Ministers, at a brief cabinet meeting held yesterday, did not mince words in their call for a very ruthless campaign against illegal mining.

“I can confirm to you that you are going to see a fight that has never been witnessed in this country.

President Mahama is going to lead a very ruthless and relentless campaign against galamsey. He has not minced words at all.

“We had a brief cabinet meeting earlier today, and the President was very clear.

There was no ambiguity that he will be leading a war that we have never seen, to deal with this canker, this existential threat once and for all,” Mr Ablakwa said.

Mr Ablakwa spoke to the media after signing a book of condolence at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in Accra yesterday to conclude the three-day opening of the book of condolence in honour of the eight victims of the military helicopter crash last week.

Over the three days, over 100 dignitaries and diplomats signed the book of condolences.

Immortalising memories

The Minister of Foreign Affairs said there was the need for the government and Ghanaians to be committed to finish the mission that the helicopter crash victims were pursuing.

“It is now up to us to finish the mission they were pursuing, a cause to which all of us must be committed to help transform and reset this nation,” Mr Ablakwa said.

He averred that, as a nation, there must be utmost commitment, so that the ultimate sacrifice of the victims should not be in vain.

Mr Ablakwa said the country must honour their memories by ensuring that the galamsey menace, which had not been resolved over the years, was dealt with once and for all.

He emphasised that it was also important that the nation immortalised the memories of the departed heroes by ensuring it protected the environment.

“We must protect our water bodies and keep this country safe for the generations coming after us,” he stated.

Appreciation

The Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed gratitude to world leaders, international partners to solidarise with the government, families and the people of Ghana who had been grieving their heroes.

“During this memorial, national mourning, and the opening of this book of condolence, there is hardly any embassy or any international partner accredited to Ghana whose head of mission or representative of the head of mission has not been here.

“All of them have been united with us, grieving and mourning. I want to, on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, extend our profound gratitude to all.

“World leaders have called directly, they have sent messages of condolence, they have extended their commiserations through diverse ways,” the Minister of Foreign Affairs said.

He also thanked staff of the ministry the Chief Director, Directors, particularly the Protocol Department, who had worked around the clock to ensure a smooth process for dignitaries received in the course of this tragic loss.

I want a wealthy man with no baby mama drama

Tiwa Savage is a Nigerian musician Tiwa Savage is a Nigerian musician

Nigerian ‘Afrobeats queen,’ Tiwa Savage, who has been divorced since 2018 has stated that her love life is on pause, and she is blaming it on her sky-high standards.

In an interview on Apple Music 1, the singer spoke about her 2023 hit ‘Somebody’s Son’ and the kind of man she hopes to find.

The musician admitted that she is searching for love but will not compromise on her expectations, which include wealth, stability, and a life free of unnecessary drama.

I don’t think love is for me in this lifetime – Tiwa Savage

Tiwa Savage noted that she wants a man who already lives a luxurious lifestyle and is emotionally uncomplicated, explaining that she cannot handle a partner with unresolved family issues, especially involving children from previous relationships.

“I’m still looking for someone’s son. I don’t have any [partner]. And I think it is because I’m asking for specific things. Maybe I need to narrow my search down. I’m actually looking for someone who has a private plane, yacht; someone who doesn’t have baby mama drama because I can’t deal with that. Maybe that’s my problem,” she said.

Losing my dad and ‘adult’ tape leak was the lowest point of my career – Tiwa Savage

Her comments came after she disclosed in another interview with Zeze Mills that the only true love she has ever experienced is with her son, Jamil.

Looking back on her past relationships, the singer admitted that what she once thought was love was actually just infatuation.

“I’ve never felt true love except with my son. Looking back at my relationships, even my marriage, I realise it wasn’t love,” she said.

Tiwa Savage, who has spoken about her struggles in love before, also expressed doubt that she will ever find lasting romance.

“I’ve tried repeatedly, so maybe love isn’t meant for me in this lifetime. Maybe love isn’t for me because I have tried over and over again, so maybe love isn’t for me this lifetime,” she stated.

The singer married Tunji ‘TeeBillz’ Balogun in 2013, and they welcomed their son Jamil in 2015 but the couple divorced in 2018 and since then, Savage has remained single.

Nollywood Actor Nosa Rex Issues Public Apology to Ghanaians After Controversial Piracy Outburst

0

Nigerian actor and filmmaker Nosa Rex has publicly apologised to Ghanaians following a heated video rant that sparked widespread criticism across social media platforms.

The controversy began on 12 August 2025 when Nosa Rex accused several Ghanaian television stations of broadcasting his latest film “Prince of Peace” without permission, just six hours after its YouTube release. In his initial video response, the Nollywood star launched into an angry tirade, hurling insults and curses at the alleged perpetrators.

The actor’s harsh words quickly went viral, drawing sharp criticism from both Ghanaians and Nigerians who felt his approach was inappropriate and disrespectful. Media personality Robert Klah was among those who publicly condemned Nosa Rex’s outburst, describing his behaviour as unprofessional.

Facing mounting pressure and backlash, Nosa Rex returned to social media to issue a heartfelt apology. He clarified that his words were never intended to insult the people of Ghana and expressed regret for the manner in which he handled the situation.

The incident highlights a growing concern within the film industry regarding unauthorised broadcasting of movies. This is not an isolated case, as other prominent Nollywood figures including Omoni Oboli, Bimbo Ademoye, and Ruth Kadiri have previously raised similar complaints about Ghanaian television stations.

Industry experts suggest that unauthorised broadcasting is significantly damaging the African film sector, discouraging investment in quality productions and undermining creators’ ability to profit from their work. The practice affects both emerging and established filmmakers who rely on legitimate distribution channels to recoup production costs.

Nosa Rex’s apology appears to be an attempt to mend relations with his Ghanaian audience whilst drawing attention to the serious issue of film piracy. The actor acknowledged that whilst his frustration was understandable, his method of expressing it was wrong.

The entertainment industry continues to grapple with piracy challenges, requiring better collaboration between content creators and television stations to establish proper licensing agreements and protect intellectual property rights.

Timeless Attire Paired with a Contemporary Chic Makeover

0

Every bride dreams of a stunning traditional wedding that combines modern flair with timeless elegance. While sticking to traditional customs and rituals, adding a modern twist to your bridal beauty look can truly elevate your overall appearance on your special day. Here are some tips on how to add a modern twist to your traditional bridal beauty look:

1. Bold Lips: Instead of sticking to the traditional nude or soft pink lip color, consider opting for a bold lip shade like red, berry, or even a deep plum. A bold lip color can add a modern touch to your look and make a statement as you walk down the aisle.

2. Sleek Hairstyle: While traditional bridal hairstyles like buns, braids, or cascading curls are timeless, consider opting for a sleek and modern hairstyle. A sleek low bun, a polished ponytail, or a chic chignon can give you a modern and sophisticated look that complements your traditional attire.

3. Statement Earrings: Traditional bridal jewelry often includes delicate pieces like pearls or gold jewelry. To add a modern twist, consider wearing statement earrings that are bold and eye-catching. Opt for oversized hoops, chandelier earrings, or geometric designs to add a contemporary touch to your bridal ensemble.

4. Smoky Eyes: While soft and subtle eye makeup is a common choice for traditional brides, a smoky eye look can add drama and intensity to your bridal beauty look. Consider incorporating shades of gray, charcoal, or plum to create a sultry and modern smoky eye that will make your eyes pop in photos.

5. Dewy Skin: Instead of a matte finish, opt for a dewy and glowing complexion to add a modern and fresh touch to your bridal makeup. Use illuminating primers, highlighters, and hydrating setting sprays to achieve a luminous and radiant look that will make you glow on your wedding day.

By incorporating these modern beauty trends into your traditional bridal look, you can create a stylish and sophisticated appearance that is both timeless and on-trend. Embrace your individual style and personality to create a bridal beauty look that is uniquely you, blending tradition with modernity in a harmonious and elegant way on your special day.

Ghanaians ‘running on a treadmill’ as growth fails to deliver quality jobs — World Bank – Citinewsroom – Comprehensive News in Ghana

0

Ghana’s economy is expanding, but much of its workforce is “running on a treadmill”, that is shifting between jobs without significant improvement in income or security.

This is according to the World Bank’s latest Ghana Economic Update.

Between 2012 and 2023, the country added 720,000 jobs in industry and services but shed 470,000 in agriculture. Urban areas absorbed 2.4 million more working-age people, yet real wages fell by 3% over the decade.

The Bank says job creation is lagging behind population growth, youth participation in the workforce is declining, and about one million young Ghanaians now live abroad.

Medium-skilled sectors such as manufacturing, construction and domestic services — typically drivers of upward mobility remain among the slowest growing.

Education’s ability to lift incomes is also waning, with the supply of graduates increasingly outstripping the availability of quality jobs.

Women remain overrepresented in low-productivity roles and continue to face significant pay and opportunity gaps.

With Ghana’s working-age population projected to grow by 4.8 million to 25.3 million in the next decade, the World Bank is calling for bold reforms to attract private investment, raise productivity and create stronger pathways from education to employment.

Without decisive action, the Bank warns, many Ghanaians will keep “working hard but going nowhere.”

Farewell, our patriots – Graphic Online

0

Under the weight of collective grief, Ghana will gather at the Black Star Square today to bid a final, dignified farewell to the remaining six of the eight patriots whose lives were tragically cut short on August 6, 2025 in the military helicopter crash.

The state funeral, set for 8:00 a.m., represents not just a ceremony, but a national embrace of families shattered by loss and a testament to unity in heartbreak.

A 90-minute pre-burial service for the six, scheduled to start at 7:30 a.m., will pave the way for relevant rituals towards the burial of the six at the Military Cemetery in Accra, five days after the burials of the Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, and the  acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, in accordance with Islamic protocols.

Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Operations, Stanislav Xoese Dogbe, at a media briefing in Accra yesterday, said the military-led ceremony would be conducted with full respect and adherence to protocols, given the expected large crowds.

He also assured of heavy security deployment to ensure law and order.

Mr Dogbe indicated that the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, had directed that all donations from institutions to the government in support of the funeral service should be shared equally among the families of the eight deceased persons.

Traffic protocols

On traffic control, the Director of Research, Education and Training at the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department, Chief Superintendent Alexander Kwaku Obeng, said key access routes leading to the Independence Square would be managed to prevent congestion.

As a gesture of inclusion, the public was invited to contribute tributes for an official state funeral brochure, with submissions closing last Wednesday at noon.

Thousands of messages, from schoolchildren to traditional leaders, flooded the dedicated email ([email protected]), weaving a tapestry of national gratitude.

Eight lights extinguished

The victims, whose coffins will be draped in the national colours, represent a cross-section of Ghana’s dedicated public service and military excellence.

Samuel Sarpong, a former Ashanti Regional Minister and a Vice-Chairman of the governing party, was known for bridge-building, and Samuel Aboagye, a parliamentary candidate in the 2024 elections and a Deputy Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation, praised for grassroots pragmatism, are among the martyred.

Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, the co-pilot, and Sergeant Ernest Addo-Mensah were the Air Force crew whose vigilance safeguarded countless missions.

Minutes later, it vanished from radar before crashing into the forested hills of Adansi Akrofuom.

A post-impact fire left the victims unrecognisable, necessitating DNA analysis in South Africa for identification, a grim detail underscoring the tragedy’s brutality.

Ghana’s three days of national mourning saw flags fly at half-mast and books of condolence opened at ministries, military facilities and the NDC headquarters.

The global community, including the UN, African Union, UK, Germany, and Pope Leo, expressed solidarity, reflecting the victims’ international stature.

Muslim burial rites for Dr Murtala Muhammed and Alhaji Limuna were conducted last Sunday at Accra’s Military Cemetery, led by the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu.

Their early burial, in accordance with Islamic tradition, deepened the week’s emotional gravity.

As families seek closure, President John Dramani Mahama confirmed that a transparent military investigation was underway, with the recovered flight recorder, commonly called black box, pivotal to understanding the crash.

Petrol, LPG prices to rise as diesel goes down from August 16 – Citinewsroom – Comprehensive News in Ghana

0

Fuel prices in Ghana are set for a mixed adjustment in the second pricing window of August, with petrol and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) expected to edge up, while diesel sees a marginal drop.

The Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) projects petrol prices at the pump will rise between 0.39% and 2.71%, with LPG increasing by 0.15% to 2.34%.

Diesel, however, is forecast to decline slightly by 0.21% to 0.72% from August 16.

COMAC attributes the shifts to varied trends in global petroleum product prices, a marginal depreciation of the cedi against the US dollar and product-specific supply and demand dynamics.

“Following the slight dip in crude prices, diesel fell sharply by 5.22%, while petrol and LPG rose marginally by 1.89% and 2.87%, likely due to product-specific demand and supply factors.

“For 1st August 2025 pricing window (based on average exchange rates from 27th July to 12th Aug), the Ghanaian cedi experienced a slight depreciation against the US dollar. The rate shifted from GHS 10.68 to GHS 10.77, reflecting a 0.87% decline,” part of the statement read.

During the review period, Brent crude fell 0.23% from $70.42 to $70.26 per barrel, weighed down by higher production from OPEC+ and non-OPEC producers, softer futures market sentiment and reduced speculative positions.

Diesel prices saw a sharper global drop of 5.22%, while petrol and LPG rose 1.89% and 2.87% respectively.

The cedi also weakened slightly against the dollar, sliding 0.87% from GHS 10.68 to GHS 10.77 per dollar, adding mild upward pressure on import costs.

COMAC noted that the projected pump prices broadly align with prevailing global market trends, with only minimal increases anticipated for petrol and LPG in the upcoming window.
