Three Ghanaians slammed over helicopter crash comments

0

Following the crash of the Z9 helicopter belonging to the Ghana Armed Forces on August 6, 2025, which claimed the lives of Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Environment, Science and Technology Minister Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and six others, some Ghanaians have faced criticism for their commentary on the incident.

The crash, described as a “Black Wednesday” that plunged the nation into mourning, was interpreted by some as political punishment.

Here are three individuals who have received backlash for their comments;

1.Kofi Akpaloo

Founder and leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo, came under heavy criticism for remarks many described as insensitive and disrespectful to the memory of the deceased and their grieving families.

Akpaloo attributed the crash to divine intervention, suggesting that its location, on a cocoa farm, was symbolic, reminding politicians not to lie to cocoa farmers.

Nigel, Owusu Bempah, Roja and More: The prophets who prophesied about ‘Black Wednesday’

He referenced the government’s promise to increase cocoa prices from GH¢3,100 to GH¢6,000, which he claimed was not entirely fulfilled.

“God is not asleep. Do you know where the accident happened? It happened inside the cocoa farm. The same farmers they lied to that they would increase the price. That is where it happened,” he said.

This sparked outrage, with many calling for him to retract his comments and apologise.

Speaking to journalists on Friday, August 8, 2025, Akpaloo admitted that his remarks were ill-timed and hurtful, explaining they were made in a moment of deep emotional distress.

“I am not happy at all, and I feel terrible that my comments caused pain to many people and families. I am sincerely sorry and ask for their forgiveness,” he said.

He revealed that he was devastated by the crash, particularly because one of the victims, Dr Omane Boamah, was a close associate.

2.Bernard Mornah

Former presidential candidate of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah, also received backlash after questioning the decision to allow the helicopter’s pilot, whom he claimed was a novice, to fly such a mission.

Speaking on Metro TV, Mornah said, “This must be investigated. It could be deliberate; it could also be a mistake. So, let’s get to the bottom of the matter.

“I remember when Samson Oje was Chief of Army Staff, he would personally pilot President Mills and later President Mahama. I also recall two occasions when he piloted the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources. You would want some of the finest to do these things.

“If we don’t take the finest to transport our leaders, and perhaps we take a novice, I don’t know his level of proficiency in piloting, then this is worrying.

“I don’t know why anybody who lost his wife less than one month ago would be asked to take a plane. Even driving a car in such a state is traumatic. All these things must be investigated so we can get to the bottom of it.”

NPP withdraws from Tamale Central by-election

Many Ghanaians considered the statement an insult to the late pilot and the deceased.

“Now we want to insult the pilot just because he is young?” one social media user wrote.

“You talk as if the fluid that surrounds your brain is little. Do you think the relatives of the pilot will be okay with this nonsense you’re spewing? Death is death, stop this game,” another said.

3.Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah

Media personality Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah has also been criticised after describing President John Dramani Mahama’s return to power as a “disaster”.

Speaking on his show, Afrifa accused Mahama of being a “bad omen” whenever he is in office.

“Dome market people were discussing Mahama’s return to power, and they said that when John Mahama came to power, Melcom collapsed, killing people. In the June 3 disaster, about 120 died. Also, the Upper East bus collision, in which about 70 people died.”

“So, I told them not to say those things. So, John, pray because it seems whenever you come to power, strange things happen,” Okatakyie noted on his show.

He referenced past disasters that occurred during Mahama’s first term and linked them to his current tenure, questioning why such “uncertainties” happen only when he is president.

Black Wednesday: Why President Mahama did not attend Obuasi event – Rev Dr Wengam

“Too much talking can sometimes make you foolish,” a social media user said.

“Stop playing nonsense,“ another added.

The helicopter crash occurred while the delegation was on its way to the launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) at Black Park, near the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium in the Ashanti Region.

The victims included Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC, Samuel Aboagye, Deputy Director-General of NADMO, Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala, Ghana Air Force, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, Ghana Air Force and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, Ghana Air Force.

Best Honour For Fallen Eight

0

Eight men departed from their various homes on a state service but never returned.

This brings nostalgic memories of the Gold Coast days and later post-independence Ghana until the late 60s. Government correspondence from state institutions were embossed with ‘On Her Majesty’s Service’, and after independence ‘Ghana Government On State Service’.

With this, such correspondence did not require postage stamps.

The eight were not correspondence but top state officials, including personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces’ Air Force.

Their mission was part of the ongoing fight to stop the now notorious and destructive illegal mining, otherwise known as galamsey.

Had the galamsey trend not existed or ongoing with ferocity, there would not have been the need to roll out the programme requiring their presence in Obuasi.

The lip-service being paid to the illegal mining activities in gold-bearing areas of the country is perhaps one of the most exhaustive public discourses in recent times.

Galamsey has claimed many lives – from those falling into abandoned pits, deformed babies and contaminated rivers, and the high profile fallout as under review – the statistics has not been static.

Characteristically, tributes continue to pour in from various quarters. While this is in order, we think that the best tribute or honour for the fallen eight is ensuring a sincere and robust attack on illegal mining in the country and in the end a Ghana without galamsey.

Imagine a Ghana where there is a zero tolerance for galamsey through a sincere and frontal attack on the illegality.

Shall we witness a situation where government and party officials suspected to be engaged in galamsey are sanctioned in consonance with the law?

Whatever happened to the two ruling party persons whose probe the President directed? Many Ghanaians are skeptical about anything positive coming thereof. It’s been about a month now since the directive was issued.

No honour can surpass the achievement of the goal of the mission which claimed the lives of the eight gentlemen. The President has rightly called for the honouring of their memories. This, we think, should not be the business as usual approach. It should go beyond words.

Galamsey has assumed an unprecedented status, making it difficult to address. It has been politicised as political party players brazenly stepped into the fray with their tools after the change of government.

An impression of victorious medieval soldiers sharing up the spoils of war is what is being witnessed, and this is worrying and needs strong willpower to address. Not when during the campaign season those now wielding power assured illegal miners that when their party comes to power it will be a green light for party supporters to move to galamsey sites unhindered.

Let us all come together irrespective of political parties to honour the memories of the fallen eight. That would be the best honour we can give their memories. For those who have been interred already, may God grant them paradise.

Ghana, world mourn loss of climate advocate

By Albert Oppong-Ansah

Accra, Aug. 12, GNA – Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, died alongside seven other state officials in a military helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.

The delegation was travelling to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region for the launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP), aimed at reforming Ghana’s small-scale mining sector.

Tributes have poured in from Ghana, across Africa, and the global environmental community for Dr Murtala Muhammed, recognised for his unwavering commitment to clean air, environmental justice, and sustainable development.

The Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) in a statement described Dr Muhammed as “a tireless advocate for clean air” and commended his role in advancing Ghana’s leadership in the Africa Clean Air Programme.

Ms. Inger Andersen, Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme, said: “He was deeply respected by environmental leaders across the African continent and global stage,” noting his recent election to the Bureau of the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN).

Pure Earth Ghana referred to him as “a strong advocate for environmental health” and acknowledged his contributions to addressing lead and mercury pollution.

A Rocha Ghana, through Mr. Daryle Bonsu, described the incident as “a national tragedy” and called for renewed efforts against illegal mining.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) stated: “Dr Murtala Muhammed was a man of deep intellect, conviction, and vision,” highlighting his leadership in climate change adaptation, plastic waste reduction, biodiversity conservation, and responsible resource management.

The EPA noted that he launched initiatives such as “One Child, One Tree” and actively engaged stakeholders at the community level.

The statement also recognised Dr Edward Omane Boamah, a former Minister for Environment, for his foundational contributions to Ghana’s environmental governance.

“May his memory continue to inspire a greener, more equitable, and sustainable Ghana. We will honour him best by delivering on the goals he set so passionately,” th EPA said.

Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed and Dr Edward Omane Boamah were among the eight victims of the crash, which occurred at Sikaman in the Adansi Akrofuom District.

A state funeral is scheduled for August 15, 2025, at Black Star Square in Accra

Sports Investment Vital for Health Budget Relief, Ghana Advisor Says

Betty Crosby
Betty Crosby

Betty Crosby, Senior Advisor to Ghana’s Sports Minister, insists heavy investment in sports and recreation offers a clear path to reducing the nation’s health expenditures.

She argues that fostering a healthier population through active lifestyles directly translates to lower government spending on healthcare services. Crosby made the case during an appearance on Accra’s Pan African Television.

She revealed the Sports Ministry is actively pursuing innovative funding strategies beyond traditional government subventions.

Key initiatives include a commercialized partnership between the Ghana Football Association and APL Production for the premier league, with plans to extend similar models to other sports.

Cabinet has also approved the establishment of a dedicated Government Sports Fund, whose regulations await parliamentary review for dedicated sports financing.

Crosby stressed the urgency of shifting perspectives. “Governments are looking at building schools, hospitals, and paying nurses.

Y’know, they often see sports as secondary,” she noted. “But we believe if we focus more and invest more in sports, some of this health budget will reduce. When citizens actively engage in sports, they build good health.

The health budget then automatically decreases.” She contends that proactive investment in physical activity is a strategic economic decision for national wellbeing and fiscal sustainability.

15 new broadcasting laws in the works to guide Ghana’s media

The Minister of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has announced that his ministry is drafting fifteen (15) new pieces of legislation to guide broadcasting in Ghana.

He explained that these laws will be developed from existing codes that have been in place for years.

The minister’s comments come in response to calls to sanitise the Ghanaian media space following the nature of reports circulated after the August 6, 2025, helicopter crash that claimed eight lives.

Mobile Money scammer seeks redemption after spiritual ‘beatings’

Speaking on Joy FM on August 12, 2025, he said, “The ministry is currently working on 15 new pieces of legislation. As a minister, one of the legacies I will leave is future-proofing the ministry.

“When I took over in February, I realised that most of the legislation in the technology sector was 18 years old, some as old as 23 years. They are no longer fit for purpose. The current legislative framework for Ghana’s technology sector belongs more in the Ghanaian museum than in the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations,” he noted.

Sam George stressed that these laws will not amount to censorship but will ensure that the media operates within ethical boundaries.

“We are not trying to censor the media’s ability to publish, but we will set parameters that must not be crossed. We will draw heavily from the GJA’s own code of ethics, especially the provisions on respect for grieving families and protecting the privacy of those in mourning.

“We will literally lift these provisions, in the Constitution’s own words, into the legislation. This is what we intend to do when it comes to guiding broadcasting,” he explained.

Nigeria military kills scores of gang members in air and ground raids, spokesman says

0

The Nigerian air force raided a forest in northwest Nigeria The Nigerian air force raided a forest in northwest Nigeria

The Nigerian air force has killed scores of gunmen, known locally as “bandits”, who were members of criminal gangs operating in Zamfara state, the military has said.

The air force said in a statement on Monday that it carried out a raid in Makakkari forest, north-west Nigeria, which was the hideout of the gunmen who were believed to be behind some high-profile kidnappings in the area.

It said it conducted the operation after surveillance detected more than 400 gang members preparing to attack a village.

Over the past two weeks, armed gangs have targeted nearby settlements, killing scores and kidnapping many more. At least 13 security personnel have also been killed.

The aerial strikes, in coordination with attacks on the ground, led to the deaths of “several notorious bandit kingpins and scores of their foot soldiers,” air force spokesperson Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame said.

He added that the ground forces intercepted and killed others trying to flee the forest.

In parts of Nigeria, kidnapping for ransom has become a lucrative business for some.

The bandits, motivated by financial gain, have also increased their cooperation with jihadist groups that have been waging a 16-year armed insurgency in the north-east.

In recent years, the military has launched a number of operations against the gangs, including last month when at least 95 gang members were killed – but the violence has persisted.

Captain Smart suggests cause of helicopter crash

Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that Onua TV journalist, Captain Smart, has come under fire after suggesting that the August 6, 2025, military helicopter crash near Obuasi may have been caused by a bird. He claimed large birds like vultures and crows are responsible for many crashes.

The crash in the Sikaman Forest killed eight, including Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Dr Samuel Sarpong, and senior military officers. They were heading to Obuasi for a government programme, and the nation observed three days of mourning.

His comments drew backlash from Ghanaians, who accused him of making baseless claims. A video of Dr Omane Boamah’s final moments before boarding the ill-fated helicopter has also gone viral.

Davido Weds Chioma In $3.7m Miami Ceremony

Davido and Chioma

Nigerian music star Davido and his wife, Chioma, have held their much-anticipated white wedding in Miami, Florida, in a ceremony estimated to have cost $3.7 million.

The event, hosted at the upscale The Havana venue, drew prominent guests from Nigeria and beyond, including Teni, Adekunle Gold, Zlatan Ibile, and several industry figures.

Reports indicated that the couple imposed a strict black-tie dress code, banning guests from wearing white or cream to ensure Chioma stood out as the bride.

However, some notable absences sparked discussion. Cubana Chief Priest, along with Chioma’s parents, were unable to attend due to reported visa challenges.

The day was marked by both glamour and emotion, with Davido visibly moved during the ceremony as he exchanged vows with Chioma.

The Miami wedding follows the couple’s traditional wedding earlier in Lagos in June 2024, a subsequent court wedding and now adds another chapter to their celebrated love story.

Telecel Hosts 100 Girls In ICT Open Day

Telecel Ghana welcomed 100 girls from various primary and junior high schools in the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions to its headquarters in Accra, as part of the National Girls-in-ICT Open Day initiative, an effort to encourage more women to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

The open day, organised by the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, is part of a broader nationwide programme designed to close the gender gap in STEM. It gives girls from across Ghana the chance to observe technology-focused workplaces, interact with women in the industry, and gain practical experience in the STEM disciplines.

The Open Day began with an interactive demonstration featuring an AI-powered talking robot, which greeted the girls and answered their questions. The girls then participated in hands-on robotics and coding workshops, where they worked in teams to assemble simple robots from scratch, learning basic programming concepts.

The Women in Tech group at Telecel Ghana mentored the girls, sharing their professional experiences and offering career advice in areas such as data analytics, cybersecurity, digital transformation, engineering, robotics and digital marketing.

“Mentoring these young girls gives them the chance to know the kind of roles that exist in the tech space and make them aware of the possibilities around them,” said Victoria Aidoo, a Digital Transformation Specialist at Telecel Ghana. “I hope these sessions inspire them to pursue STEM courses in school and believe they can succeed because they’ve seen other women thrive in this field.”

The girls were equally enthusiastic with Shelly Sakyiwaa from Achimota Basic School expressing her passion for cybersecurity and eagerness to learn more about the field after the mentoring session.

Officials from the Ministry said the initiative is a key part of Ghana’s strategy to build a more inclusive and competitive digital economy. According to data from the International Telecommunication Union, women remain underrepresented in STEM fields globally, and targeted programmes like Girls in ICT aim to counter stereotypes that discourage girls from entering such careers.

Director of Legal and External Affairs at Telecel Ghana, Augusta Andrews, said she hoped the visit would demystify the sector for the girls and show that the technology space is not limited by gender.

“Technology is not a boys-only space. With the right guidance and determination, anyone can innovate, lead, and succeed in this industry. We believe this interaction will go a long way to spark interest and influence the girls to pursue careers in STEM,” Augusta said.

The girls ended their day with a clearer vision of skills and potential careers in the technology sector.

Tamale Central withdrawal was strategic, not political favour — Adomako Kissi

0

Former Member of Parliament for Anyaa Sowutuom, Dr. Adomako Kissi, has defended the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) decision not to contest the upcoming Tamale Central by-election, insisting it was a calculated and pragmatic move rather than an act of political generosity.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Tuesday, August 12, Dr. Kissi stressed that the NPP’s internal assessment revealed unfavourable prospects in the constituency, making it wise for the party to redirect its resources.

He argued that contesting in an area historically dominated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would be an unwise use of the party’s time and funds, especially when those resources could be channelled into constituencies with a more competitive chance of victory.

“This is not necessarily about the death. The numbers for specifically Tamale Central are not favourable, and I think that as a serious country, all the hustle related to a by-election won’t be worth it. Some places are very strongholds for a particular party, no doubt.

“From time in history, it has been NDC. The reality is that this seat has consistently been held by the NDC, and it will undoubtedly remain so. For lack of a better word, you choose your battles, so the NPP has chosen theirs. This is not a favour but a pragmatic decision made, and out of all of this, it is the future that matters,” he said.

His comments follow the NPP’s formal announcement that it will not field a candidate in the Tamale Central Parliamentary by-election, which was triggered by the death of the area’s Member of Parliament, Alhaji  Dr. Murtala Muhammed, in the August 6 helicopter crash.

Dr. Murtala Muhammed was among eight individuals who lost their lives when a military helicopter they were travelling in crashed in Adansi Akrofuom, Ashanti Region. His death has created a vacancy in the constituency, paving the way for a by-election in line with Article 112(5) of Ghana’s Constitution.

In a statement signed by NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party said its decision was taken during a National Steering Committee meeting on Monday, August 11, 2025, at its national headquarters.

Decentralized AI Training Gains Ground Amid Ethics Debate

0

Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence

As AI systems face scrutiny over biased outputs and data exploitation, a movement toward community-driven model training is emerging.

FLock.io CEO Jiahao Sun contends that centralized AI development reflects narrow perspectives: “When an AI model goes off the rails, it’s not a glitch—it’s a mirror.” Recent controversies over unauthorized data use, he argues, prove the need for radical transparency.

Sun’s blockchain-based platform uses federated learning—training models locally on user devices without sharing raw data. This approach promises privacy while incentivizing participation. “Your data is yours,” he emphasizes, noting FLock.io rewards users for contributing computing power or anonymized insights.

The push responds to growing distrust in Big Tech’s data practices. Traditional AI development, Sun warns, treats personal information as a “free-for-all,” risking legal breaches and homogenized outputs. Decentralized federated learning could democratize AI creation, allowing diverse communities to co-build models.

Critics question scalability, but proponents see momentum. As regulators draft AI laws, Sun’s vision challenges the status quo: “The future of AI is for the people, by the people.” Could blockchain finally shift power from Silicon Valley boardrooms to living rooms?

Woman sues Cardi B for assault after viral mic-throwing incident in 2023

0

Rapper Cardi B is facing assault and battery charges after allegedly hitting a woman with a microphone two years ago while performing in Las Vegas.

The woman, identified as Jane Doe, went to Cardi’s headline show at Drai’s Beachclub on July 29, 2023, while on her first solo trip to Las Vegas, according to a complaint filed in the Eighth Judicial Court in Clark County, Nevada, People reports.

In the lawsuit, Cardi, 32, allegedly “appeared onstage under visibly high-temperature conditions and, while holding a microphone, verbally requested that the audience splash water on her” during her performance.

“Splash me down. That s** feel good. Put that s** in my p**y, bitch. Come on,” she says to onlookers in the video. However, it’s unclear if the video was shot before or after the incident.

According to the complaint, Cardi “made repeated gestures and statements encouraging concertgoers to throw water, implicitly authorizing and inviting light splashing from drinks.”

Doe claims Cardi “further demonstrated her consent and participation by pouring water from a bottle over her body while onstage,” plus she “physically reacted to splashes by slapping her posterior while audience-thrown liquids made contact with her.”

Doe splashed a small portion of her drink in Cardi’s direction in an attempt to behave “in accordance with the environment,” as well as “in a manner consistent with other attendees,” according to the lawsuit.

The video, which has now gone viral, shows Cardi performing “Bodak Yellow” at a daytime party when a spectator throws a drink at her, causing splashes of liquid to strike her face. According to XXL, the Grammy Award-winning rapper threw her microphone at the woman in response to the unacceptable behavior.

Doe argues that Cardi acted in “apparent anger and without warning” by “suddenly and forcefully” throwing her microphone “directly” at her, and that she immediately experienced “immediate apprehension of an imminent harmful contact” as a result.

Once the microphone was thrown, she claims it did come into contact with her, “resulting in offensive and unconsented physical contact and causing physical injury.”

In her complaint, Doe argues that Cardi should have been aware that the microphone “presented a foreseeable risk of physical injury when thrown,” thereby committing “an unjustified and retaliatory act that resulted in harmful and offensive contact” with Doe.

“I don’t want to look [like] that ghetto bitch,” Cardi, however, said in response to her heated moment, according to Page Six. “I said splash my p—y, not my face, bitch.”

According to Doe, Cardi’s actions were “excessive, disproportionate, and undertaken in a public venue, causing additional reputational and emotional harm.”

Doe is claiming that she suffered “severe emotional distress, shock, humiliation, and physical injury” in her assault, battery, and negligence lawsuit. She is also suing Drai’s Management Group for negligence.

Furthermore, the microphone was auctioned off for $99,000, which Doe now alleges “exacerbated [her] emotional distress.”

She claims she has “suffered physical pain, emotional distress, reputational damage, embarrassment, and harassment from both media and members of the public,” and is seeking compensatory and punitive damages.

After the incident, a criminal battery investigation was launched against the rapper, but the case was closed due to “insufficient evidence.”

In a statement to People, Doe stated, “What has been written off as a joke by many people is actually a traumatic experience that has significantly impacted my well-being and quality of life. I am seeking justice in the hopes of holding Cardi B accountable for her misdeeds, as no celebrity is above the law.”

Meanwhile, according to Page Six, Cardi has previously called out fans, most notably after they accused her of copying Nicki Minaj’s style.

She also told fans to “shut the f**k up” after several claimed that she got back together with her estranged husband, Offset, in 2023.

We expect NDC to exit Akwatia contest as we have done for Tamale Central – Nana B

Henry Nana Boakye is the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party Henry Nana Boakye is the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party

The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has called on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to withdraw from the upcoming parliamentary by-election for the Akwatia Constituency, which is slated for September 2, 2025.

Speaking in an interview on JoyNews on August 11, 2025, Nana Boakye, aka Nana B, asserted that the NDC must withdraw from the Akwatia by-election, just as his party has withdrawn from the Tamale Central by-election, whose Member of Parliament, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, died in the tragic August 6 helicopter crash.

He asserted that the ruling party, as a sign of respect for the five people it lost in the helicopter crash, should not go into active politics just after burying these people.

NPP withdraws from Tamale Central by-election

“That is my expectation, but then we leave it to them. The reason why I say so is that Akwatia is in the Eastern Region, and the NDC has lost five important party dignitaries, and we are mourning with them. So, for me, you have a stalwart like Hon. from the Eastern Region, I would say that right after the state burial, then we enter into such fierce contest, for me it will not serve his memory right.

“I would say that if I were in the NDC, I think that the tension in the country, we can lower it, we can bring it down,” he said.

“Recently, we had Ablekuma, which was a negative story, and then we’ve had this devastating news of this helicopter crash, and after this, we have a by-election ahead of us… It is their decision to make. For us, we are of the view that we do not think that we need to contest in the Tamale Central by-election,” he added.

The Akwatia seat became vacant following the death of the Member of Parliament, Ernest Yaw Kumi.

Akwatia by-election set for September 2

Ernest Yaw Kumi passed away on July 7, 2025, at the age of 40, after a brief illness.

A first-term MP representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kumi won the closely contested December 2024 election against the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Henry Yiadom Boakye, securing 19,269 votes to Boakye’s 17,206.

However, his victory was marred by controversy, with the NDC alleging electoral irregularities, leading to a legal battle. A legal challenge against Kumi’s victory was pending at the time of his death.

His seat was subsequently declared vacant following his passing.

In a raw and emotional revelation, Nigerian music icon, Tiwa Savage, has admitted that she no longer believes she will ever find true romantic love.

Speaking in an interview with British-Nigerian media personality ZeZe Mills, the award-winning singer peeled back the layers of her glamorous public life to reveal a deeply personal truth: despite her fame, fortune, and success, she has never truly felt loved by a partner.

Reflecting on her 2013–2018 marriage to Tunji Balogun, popularly known as Teebillz, Tiwa said she once believed she had found love, only to later realise it was nothing more than fleeting infatuation.

Now a devoted mother to her 10-year-old son, Jamil, she says he is the only source of pure, unconditional love in her life.

“I don’t think I’ve been loved for a very long time. I don’t think I’ve experienced true love apart from my son,” Tiwa confessed. “Every time I look back at my relationship, I realise that it wasn’t love, it was just infatuation.”

After years of heartbreak and disappointment, Tiwa has resigned herself to the idea that romantic love may simply not be written in her stars.

“I don’t think I’ve experienced that soulmate thing,” she admitted, her voice heavy with resignation. “I’ve tried over and over again. I don’t think love is for me in this lifetime.”

Her words, stripped of celebrity gloss, echo with the pain of a woman who has seen the fragility of romance up close — and decided she will no longer chase an illusion.

Soldier, 6 Others Remanded Over Fuel Tanker Robbery

A military officer and six other individuals have been remanded into police custody by a Circuit Court in Accra, for allegedly robbing a fuel tanker carrying about 54,000 litres of diesel, valued at approximately GH¢766,800.

Cpl. Bortey Bernard, a serving soldier at Teaching and Doctrine College of the Ghana Armed Forces, and his accomplices have been charged with multiple counts of conspiracy, abetment, robbery and kidnapping.

The rest are Mark Abito, fuel tanker driver; Ganiu Abdulai, driver; Atiiga Barnabas, unemployed; Awini Ibrahim; Muniru Ayebo and Shaibu Adams, all tanker driver’s mates.

The incident occurred on August 6, 2025, at about 1pm when the accused persons ambushed the tanker driver and took over the vehicle.

The accused had trailed the fuel tanker which was travelling from Tema to Kumasi and intercepted it at Pampaso Number 1, in the Eastern Region, crossed the tanker at gunpoint, forcing the driver to stop abruptly.

They have pleaded not guilty to charges against them and were remanded into police custody by the court, presided over by His Honour Samuel Bright Acquah. They will reappear on August 27, 2025.

Court documents indicate that the accused persons, after stopping the tanker, pulled the driver, Jerry Kawuon, who is the complainant, from the steering wheel, and handcuffed him together with his mate, a witness in the case, and pushed them into a green pickup truck with registration number GX 2881-22.

The soldier’s accomplices then drove the robbed fuel tanker to Pacific Fuel Station at Bunso junction.

The prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Emmanuel Haligah told the court that on August 7, 2025, police during a stop and search duty at Ablekuma Borkorborkor snap check point arrested Cpl. Bortey Bernard, who was in a military uniform, after the kidnapped victims in the pickup truck drew the attention of the police who rescued them.

Further investigations led to the arrest of the other accused persons at Bunso Junction, who were caught with a pumping machine in the process of discharging the robbed diesel into an empty fuel tanker with registration number GN 804-13 at the Pacific fuel station located at Bunso junction.

Both fuel tankers have been impounded at the Kyebi Regional MTTD office.

An interrogation revealed that Cpl. Bortey Bernard and his four other accomplices, now at large, hatched the idea to rob the fuel tanker. They then divided themselves into two groups.

The first group did the monitoring on board a Toyota Corolla vehicle from Tema to Pokuase where the soldier armed and in uniform with others on board the pickup truck, trailed the tanker to Pampaso Number 1, where he and his accomplices executed the act.

Cpl. Bortey Bernard, on his arrest, admitted the offence and added that he and his accomplices were driving in town with the complainant and his mate handcuffed earlier, buying time for the diesel to be sold out.

Hiplife musician Okomfour Kwadee has cautioned the youth against using opioids, particularly a substance known as “Red” or “225,” describing it as highly addictive and dangerous.

In an interview with Kumawood actor Kwaku Manu, shared on social media on August 11, 2025, Kwadee—who has battled mental illness in the past—appeared stable and composed as he shared his advice.

“Doctors have spoken against the intake of red because if you take it, you can die from it,” he said. “The red, tramadol, and other stimulants are of no benefit. I will admonish the youth to engage in activities that would benefit them.”

Kwadee revealed that he had experimented with various stimulants in the past, which had negative effects on his health. He also advised fellow musicians to avoid marijuana and other harmful substances, warning that foreign influence is encouraging harmful lifestyle habits.

“These days, the whole thing has become like a fashion; they should note that they can’t smoke forever because it’s not helpful,” he added.

How Ghana’s Reference Rate shapes your loan payments

0

Ghana Reference Rate is basically the base rate banks use to set interest on loans Ghana Reference Rate is basically the base rate banks use to set interest on loans

You often hear the term Ghana Reference Rate (GRR) whenever the Bank of Ghana’s Monetary Policy Committee adjusts the policy rate by a few basis points.

Similarly, when commercial banks are asked to lower interest rates on loans, they sometimes respond that the reference rate does not allow for such reductions, as there has been no corresponding change.

In this article, GhanaWeb Business explains what the Ghana Reference Rate is and how it affects loans.

Expect a reduction in new lending rates – John Awuah

The Ghana Reference Rate is essentially the base rate banks use to set interest on loans. When the rate goes down, borrowing becomes cheaper; when it goes up, loans become more expensive.

Introduced in April 2017 by the Bank of Ghana and the Ghana Association of Banks, the GRR was designed to make interest rate setting clearer and more consistent across financial institutions.

Before its introduction, banks used different methods to calculate their rates, making it difficult for borrowers to understand why they were being charged certain amounts. The confusion began to clear after the launch of the GRR, which was initially pegged at 16.82% in April 2017.

The rate is influenced by factors such as the Bank of Ghana’s policy rate and other market indicators, allowing it to reflect current economic conditions.

It is important to note that if you take a loan with a variable interest rate, the rate can change during the loan term based on market conditions. If the GRR drops, your loan may become cheaper. But if it rises, your repayments could increase. This system helps make borrowing more predictable and fair.

When the GRR decreases, businesses can borrow at lower costs, making it easier to invest, expand, or manage cash flow. Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) benefit significantly, as their long-standing calls for lower interest rates are finally being addressed, supporting the growth of their operations. However, when the GRR rises, it can place financial strain on these businesses.

For households, lower rates mean more affordable loans to finance homes, purchase vehicles, or pay school fees.

In summary, the GRR has helped standardize how interest rates are set in Ghana, giving borrowers clearer expectations and greater transparency when applying for loans.

Mobile Money plays a crucial role in improving the efficiency of cash transactions in Ghana Mobile Money plays a crucial role in improving the efficiency of cash transactions in Ghana

A self-proclaimed mobile money fraudster has come forward, claiming that he has been tormented by spiritual “beatings” since swindling a businesswoman out of GH¢15,000.

According to him, “spiritually, a young boy comes to whip me every night when I sleep and the marks are there on my back.”

The scammer, who spoke on Sompa FM in Kumasi, revealed that he had monitored the businesswoman’s mobile money transactions and pretended to be her business partner who was supposed to receive money from her.

BoG leveraging gold to hedge debt risks and restore confidence

He explained, “I monitored the businesswoman who was supposed to send the money to one of her business partners. After I became aware that the woman had loaded the money into her wallet account, I quickly placed a call to her and pretended that I was the one she intended to transfer the money to.”

He successfully deceived her into transferring the funds. He later blocked her number to avoid detection, saying, “The woman got deceived by my fraudulent tactics and quickly transferred the said amount to me, after which I blocked her from being able to call me back.”

However, he claims that the spiritual “beatings” have made it impossible for him to sleep properly, but all efforts to connect to his victim and refund the money have also failed.

He stated, “He [the boy who whips him spiritually] tells me to return the money to his mother, and this has persisted for a long time now, so I can hardly sleep, but the woman too doesn’t respond to my numerous calls to her.”

He sought assistance from Sompa FM to locate the woman and return the GH¢15,000, hoping to get some peace.

The incident highlights the growing concern about mobile money fraud in Ghana, with many netizens expressing worry about the increasing cases of such scams.

It will be recalled that the Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohunu explained how some mobile money fraudsters who are inmates of the Nsawam Prison unknowingly targeted him in mobile money fraud scheme.

‘Women are not respected in the industry’

0

Tems is not only a musician - she is also part-owner of US football club San Diego FC Tems is not only a musician – she is also part-owner of US football club San Diego FC

Nigerian Afropop star Tems has told the BBC “people don’t really respect women” in her industry.

The two-time Grammy award-winner told the BBC that at the start of her career, she struggled to be taken seriously.

“I realised that there’s always a cost. There’s always a price that you pay. And a lot of those prices I wasn’t willing to pay and there wasn’t a lot of options,” Tems said.

Afropop has gained immense global popularity over the past decade, but despite this growth it remains notoriously male-dominated.

The industry’s so-called “Big Three” – Burna Boy, Davido and Wizkid – are all male – while their female counterparts, such as Tiwa Savage and Yemi Alade, have spoken out about the barriers they face because of their gender.

Earlier this year, Tems hit out following negative comments about her body, which were made online after a video of her performing was posted onto X.

She wrote on the social media platform: “It’s just a body, I will add and lose weight. I never once hid my body, I just didn’t feel the need to prove or disprove anyone. The more you don’t like my body the better for me actually.”

Tems told the BBC she wants “to change the way women see themselves in music”, and hopes to achieve this through her new platform, The Leading Vibe Initiative.

The project aims to provide opportunities for young women throughout Africa’s music industries.

“I promised myself that if I get to a place where I can do more, I will make this initiative for women like me and maybe make it easier for women to access platforms and access a wider audience and success,” Tems said.

The initiative kicked off on Friday in Tems’ hometown, Lagos. Vocalists, songwriters and producers were invited to a series of workshops, masterclasses and panel discussions, all with the aim of developing skills and connections.

Asked what advice she would give to young women wanting to crack the industry, she said: “I think it’s important to have an idea of what you want for yourself, what your brand is, what’s your boundary.

“What are the things that you wouldn’t do for fame and the things that you would do?”

Tems, who has scored hits with the likes of Love Me Jeje and Free Mind, said anyone trying to break into the industry must be passionate about their craft.

“It’s not everybody that sings that loves music. If I wasn’t famous, I would still be doing music. I would be in some kind of jazz club… randomly on a Friday night,” she said.

But this is far from Tems’ reality. Five years on from her debut EP, she has collaborated with the likes of Beyoncé and Rihanna, racked up more than 17m monthly listeners on Spotify and headlined international festivals.

And next month, she will be supporting British band Coldplay during their sold-out run of gigs at the UK’s Wembley Stadium.

Tems puts her success down to being “authentic” and “audacious”.

“Even when people tell you to change your sound, change your style, you look at them and you say: ‘No’. If it meant me not being signed, I was okay not being signed. I went to a couple of places that didn’t sign me and I was okay with that,” she said.

Music is not Tems’ only passion – she is an avid football fan and recently became part-owner of US football club San Diego FC.

“I never imagined myself owning or being in an ownership of any football team,” she said, adding that her brother initially got her into the sport.

Tems joined San Diego’s ownership with Pave Investments, a West African private investment firm which also helped raise funds for the NBA-linked African Basketball League.

Tems’ involvement with San Diego gives her hope that “people can be bold enough to try things that nobody ever thought was possible”.

She said: “I don’t see myself as just a singer, just a musician, just an artist. I’m much more than that.”

Mason, 58, jailed 10 years for impregnating 17-year-old daughter

0

The Kwabenya Circuit Court has sentenced a 58-year-old mason to 10 years’ imprisonment for having sex with his daughter.

Joshua Bledi got his 17-year-old daughter pregnant, who has now given birth. The baby is seven months old.

Charged with incest, Bledi pleaded guilty.

He appealed to the court to have mercy on him, saying the narration by the prosecution was true.

The court convicted Bledi on his plea and sentenced him to 10 years’ imprisonment, after considering his age, premeditation of the act, and the fact that he did not waste the court’s time by pleading guilty to the offence.

Prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Gershon Togbe Achondo, told the court that the practice was becoming too common in recent times.

Chief Inspector Achondo, therefore, prayed the court to hand down a harsh sentence to serve as a deterrent to other like-minded persons, as the offence was a cultural abomination.

Chief Inspector Achondo said the complainant was a social welfare worker at the Ga East Hospital.

The victim is a 17-year-old hairdresser apprentice who has a seven-month-old baby.

Prosecution said Bledi was the father of the victim and a resident of Musuku, Kwabenya in Accra.

Investigation revealed that the victim went to the Ga East Hospital to deliver and had challenges with the payment of her medical bills, the court heard.

The prosecution said the Social Welfare Department at the hospital intervened, and her bills were waived.

However, enquiries were made as to who impregnated her, and the victim disclosed to the complainant that Bledi was responsible.

The prosecution said the victim further stated that the accused had been having countless sexual intercourse with her since her mother asked her to live with him.

A report was, however, made to the Kwabenya Domestic Violence and Victims’ Support Unit, and a Police medical report was issued for the victim to be examined at the hospital, based on which the accused was arrested.

Meanwhile, the GNA has learned that the Abuse Relief Corps, a non-profit organisation, has gone to the aid of the victim and the baby.

NPP Withdraws from Tamale By-Election, IMANI Urges NDC to Follow Suit in Akwatia

Ghana’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) will not contest the upcoming Tamale Central by-election following the death of MP Dr. Murtala Mohammed in the August 6 helicopter crash.

The party’s National Steering Committee cited the tragic circumstances and a desire to avoid political division during national mourning, calling a competitive race “inhumane and unconscionable.” NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong confirmed the decision aligns with their constitution and prioritizes national unity.

Franklin Cudjoe, Founding President of IMANI Africa, praised the move on Facebook, urging the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to similarly withdraw from the Akwatia by-election. “The NPP has decided not to contest the late Hon. Murtala’s seat. Good call.

The NDC should do the same,” he wrote. His appeal comes amid calls by Election Watch Ghana to postpone the Akwatia vote after NDC elections director Dr. Edward Omane Boamah also perished in the crash.

The NPP emphasized honoring Dr. Mohammed by intensifying efforts against illegal mining (galamsey) and ensuring a peaceful transition. No response yet from the NDC or Electoral Commission regarding Akwatia. The Tamale Central seat became vacant after Dr. Mohammed’s death, while Akwatia’s by-election follows MP Ernest Kumi’s passing from illness.

A closer look, details of Chioma’s wedding gown

Davido and his wife, Chioma Rowland Adeleke captured at their wedding ceremony Davido and his wife, Chioma Rowland Adeleke captured at their wedding ceremony

As the complete stunner that she already is, Chioma Rowland Adeleke’s wedding gown was a perfect complement to her graceful personality.

Radiating grandeur and class with every detail, from veil to bottom, she met the already high expectations of being Davido’s wife, ‘wife of the famous 30 Billion Gang boss’.

Chioma’s gown, although seemingly common at first glance, exuded undeniable luxury, elegance, and class.

A gown worthy of royalty, timeless, sultry, and elegance personified; crafted from a love story told through class, style, and sophistication.

Her designer, Alonuko, worked pure magic on this exquisite beaded outfit.

About the fabric used in making the gown

Chantilly lace, although common, still holds an esteemed place in the world of lace as one of the most recognised and refined varieties.

Its reputation is rooted in both its elegant appearance and tough production process.

This delicate French lace is known for its tailored floral texture.

The ones used for bridal purposes are mostly produced in various soft shades, including white, cream, light eggshell, ivory, and vanilla.

Why the lace is so expensive

Beaded Chantilly lace is expensive due to its delicate nature, careful design, and the skilled craftsmanship required to create it.

Its fine mesh and ornate floral patterns, typically outlined in heavier threads, make it a time-consuming and labour-intensive process.

Also, the inclusion of beading, often done by hand, further contributes to its high cost.

NPP Pulls Out Of Tamale Central By-Election

0

Justin Kodua Frimpong

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced it will not contest the upcoming Tamale Central parliamentary by-election to replace the late Alhaji Dr. Murtala Muhammed, who was among eight people killed in the August 6, 2025 helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District.

In a statement signed by the General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP said the decision was taken at a National Steering Committee meeting on Monday, August 11, 2025, at the party’s headquarters, in accordance with Article 10(10) (1) of the Party Constitution.

The statement explained that the party took into account “the circumstances under which the Tamale Central seat became vacant and the possibility of further polarising the country at this critical time.”

The NPP, the statement noted, believes it would be “inhumane and unconscionable” to subject the nation to a competitive electoral process so soon after the tragic loss of the MP. The party also stressed that by-elections in Ghana are often marked by tension and acrimony, which should be avoided in this instance.

“The greatest tribute the NPP and the rest of the nation can pay in honour of the departed is not only to win the fight against galamsey but also to ensure a smooth and peaceful replacement for the good people of Tamale Central,” the statement added.

The party concluded that, in the national interest, it will not participate when the Electoral Commission opens nominations for the by-election, in accordance with Article 112(5) of the country’s Constitution.

Maema, Kutumela lift South Africa past Guinea in Kampala thriller

0

South Africa breathed fresh life into their African Nations Championship (CHAN) campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Guinea in Kampala on yesterday.

Goals from Neo Maema and Thabiso Kutumela secured Bafana Bafana’s first win of the tournament, lifting them off the foot of Group C ahead of the later clash between Uganda and Niger.

Moussa Camara had briefly drawn Guinea level in a pulsating first half at Mandela National Stadium.

Bafana Bafana wasted no time making their intent clear. In the 10th minute, Kutumela linked cleverly with Maema, who slotted a composed left-footed finish into the bottom corner for his first goal of the finals.

It was a deserved reward for Molefi Ntseki’s side, who pressed high and looked to unsettle Guinea’s backline from the outset.

Guinea, however, showed flashes of the attacking verve that carried them through qualification.

Mohamed Bangoura I’s incisive pass split the South African defence in the 37th minute, finding Moussa Camara, who drove a low shot into the far corner past goalkeeper Samukelo Xulu.

The equaliser swung momentum towards the Syli Nationale, who finished the first half on the front foot.

South Africa, though, weathered the storm, with Kwandakwensizwa Mngonyama and Ramahlwe Mphahlele marshalling the defence under pressure.

The second half began with renewed urgency from both teams, but it was South Africa who struck the decisive blow.

In the 54th minute, Wayde Jooste’s precise delivery from the right found Kutumela unmarked in the box, and the striker coolly placed his shot into the bottom right corner.

It was Kutumela’s second goal in CHAN history and underlined his growing influence in Ntseki’s attack.

Guinea threw everything forward in search of an equaliser, introducing fresh legs in Mohamed Diabate, Cheick Camara, and Yakhouba Barry.

Aboubacar Bangoura’s dangerous crosses tested the South African rearguard, while Mohamed Diabate’s close-range header in the 88th minute and Mohamed Bangoura II’s fierce drive moments later forced sharp interventions from Xulu.

In stoppage time, Cheick Camara’s towering header drifted agonisingly over, and the final whistle sparked jubilant celebrations from the Bafana Bafana bench.

For Guinea, the defeat was a second successive setback and leaves them rooted to the bottom of the group, their hopes of qualification now hanging by a thread ahead of their final match.—CAF

We expect the NDC to withdraw from Akwatia by-election as we have done for Tamale Central

0

He added that, “Never be in a position whereby you spend more than you receive. If you receive tips from your bosses then obviously you can depend on those tips to cater for your transportation but, if your transportation is more than your salary then it’s either you ask for an increment or resign.”

Spanish model, Georgina Rodriguez has popped up on social media trends after she announced her engagement to Cristiano Ronaldo, the father of her children to her over 60 million followers on Instagram on Monday, August 11, 2025.

Georgina Rodriguez and Cristiano Ronaldo have been together since 2016 and have 5 children (2 together) but they have constantly been bombarded with questions about when they were going to tie the knot after being together for close to a decade.

She posted her engagement on Instagram, sharing a photo of her hand adorned with a sparkling diamond ring alongside another hand believed to be Ronaldo’s and captioned it: “Yes, I do. In this and in all my lives.”

Today we delve into Georgina Rodriguez’s story and her rise to fame.

From a girl who wanted to be a professional dancer as a child but had to give up that dream because her family was too poor to enroll her into a dance school, Georgina Rodriguez has now risen to the very top of the fashion industry because of a single encounter with a stranger in a Gucci shop where she used to work as an assistant in 2016.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez announce engagement

From her own Netflix series titled “I am Georgina”, she revealed that life was very difficult financially until she met the love of her life, Cristiano Ronaldo.

She revealed in her Netflix series that she was so broke that she ended up living in a flat that used to be a storage room because she couldn’t afford the rent in Madrid.

This according to her was around the time she was working as a Gucci shop assistant in Serrano, a street in Madrid famous for its handbag shops until the day the football icon walked into her shop.

She told Grazia that she was very “shy” around him but explained it was love at first sight for the both of them. A few days later they met again at a Dolce & Gabbana event where they could be more relaxed and started chatting.

She was later fired from her job after her relationship with Ronaldo became public. According to The Sun, Georgina’s bosses fired her because they thought the attention of fans would put off paying customers from entering the store.

From a girl who was unknown to the media and social media, Georgina instantly became famous after her relationship became public and fashion brands started chasing her for modelling gigs.

She started working with brands like Yamamay and Sheglam as a model and with a 29.3 million followers in 2021, she launched her own clothing line, OM by G.

Residents of Abura Abaka Appeal to President Mahama to Complete Abandoned CHPS Compound

0

Residents of Abura Abaka in the Abura Aseibu Kwamankese District of Ghana’s Central Region are urgently appealing to President John Dramani Mahama to complete a Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound that has been left unfinished for over a decade.

The abandoned facility which was intended to serve Abura Abaka, Odumekyir, Edumfa, Egyirkrom and surrounding communities has been stalled since 2014. For years health services in the area have been operating from a single-room shop donated by a generous resident. Sadly, the benefactor has since passed away and his family has requested that the temporary clinic vacate the space.

According to residents, the CHPS compound project began in 2014 under the former Member of Parliament for the Abura Aseibu Kwamankese constituency, Hon. Anthony Christian Dadzie. However, after he lost his parliamentary seat in 2016, construction came to a standstill.

The building is reportedly at its final stage requiring only finishing works and the installation of medical equipment. Despite this it remains abandoned and overrun with weeds. Current Situation of the Abura Abaka CHPS Zone

During a visit to the temporary CHPS location, mrwoode.com interviewed some staff members who spoke on condition of anonymity. They explained that operating from a small shop without on-site accommodation has forced them to limit their services to daytime hours, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

They added that in emergency situations at night, they are compelled to walk alone from their homes to the clinic putting their personal safety at risk and delaying urgent medical care.

On August 11, 2025, a team from mrwoode.com visited the office of Hon. Daniel Mensah Wardy the District Chief Executive (DCE) to seek clarification on the reasons behind the delay and to find out when the project might be completed. However, the DCE was reportedly unavailable. His secretary informed the team that he was not in the office and declined to provide contact information. The team waited until 5:00 p.m., but he did not return.

The people of Abura Abaka are calling on authorities particularly President Mahama and the relevant government agencies to ensure the completion of the CHPS compound. They believe that finishing the facility will guarantee uninterrupted healthcare services, improve response to emergencies and address the pressing health needs of their growing population.

Prophets should be discreet and sensitive – Bishop Osei Bonsu

0

A former President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference and Bishop Emeritus of the Konongo-Mampong Catholic Diocese, Most Rev. Joseph Osei Bonsu, has advised clergy and prophets in Ghana to exercise restraint when delivering prophecies.

His call follows a directive from the Presidential Envoy for the Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations Office, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, issued on Sunday, August 10, 2025, that any prophecy or spiritual insight concerning high-profile political leaders, governance, national security, or public stability should be formally submitted for urgent assessment.

The directive comes in the wake of viral videos on social media following the August 6 helicopter crash that claimed eight lives, including two cabinet ministers.

Speaking to Citi News on Monday, August 11, 2025, Most Rev. Osei Bonsu stressed that prophets should be discreet and sensitive, particularly when sharing revelations with potentially negative implications.

“If God has revealed something to you, find the right way to go about it. My concern is that these days, most prophecies focus on death or disaster. In the Old Testament, prophets were sent to preach God’s word and guide people to do what is right — they did not constantly prophesy doom and gloom. Our prophets should learn from that,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Afriyie Ankrah clarified that while the government will not arrest any ‘man of God’ who defies the directive, prophets and spiritual leaders who ignore it will face public scrutiny.

“There is nothing like an arrest when they defy the directive, but society will judge them if they don’t obey. They used to complain that they did not have access to victims, and now they have been given that access,” he noted.

Ghana Election Watch Urges Delay of Akwatia By-Election After Tragic Loss

Ghana's Elections
Ghana’s Elections

Election Watch Ghana has formally requested the Electoral Commission postpone the September 2 by-elections in Akwatia, citing the recent helicopter crash that claimed eight lives.

The August 6 tragedy in Adansi-Akrofuom included Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, the National Democratic Congress’ Director of Elections and IT, who served on the EC’s Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC).

The group argues the loss of such a pivotal figure warrants a brief delay under the EC’s discretionary powers. In a Monday statement, conveners Mark Ewusi Arkoh and Jude Balma emphasized Article 296 of Ghana’s Constitution, which mandates fair exercise of authority, and Section 13 of the Elections Act, allowing timeline adjustments for unforeseen circumstances. They contend postponement would honor Dr. Boamah’s legacy while ensuring fairness for the NDC to regroup.

Election Watch further called for an emergency IPAC meeting to discuss options, stressing that deferral would reinforce electoral impartiality. The by-election was triggered by the death of MP Ernest Kumi after a short illness. The EC has not yet responded to the appeal.

Her reflections reveal a side of the late politician that few got to see — one marked by warmth, loyalty, and deep personal connections.

Recalling a significant moment, Minister Okudzeto Ablak fondly remembers being the Master of Ceremonies at Dr. Omane Boamah’s wedding. “I was MC at his wedding,” she said, highlighting the close bond they shared beyond politics.
