I’ll accept if DNA proves Mohbad’s son’s paternity, says singer’s father

0

Joseph Aloba, the father of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa, popularly called Mohbad, has expressed his frustrations regarding his relationship with Mohbad’s wife and son, as well as the handling of the legal proceedings surrounding his son’s death.

In an interview with Silverbird TV aired on Friday, Aloba stated that he has not seen Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi, or their son, Liam, since his son’s passing, adding that it was not his responsibility to go to them.

He said, “I’ve not seen Mohbad’s wife and son since his death. Even my son, Adura, none of them came to me. They know where I’m living. They are supposed to come to me. The way I’m looking at things, they are supposed to bring that child to me and say, ‘This is your grandson.”

He also insisted on a DNA test to confirm the child’s paternity, expressing his doubts over Mohbad being the father of the child, saying, “I demanded DNA; they are supposed to say, ‘Daddy, do it at your convenient time,’ but they have been hiding it. So, it became a public matter. Let the court have the final say concerning it. I’ll know exactly what to do from there.”

When asked if the child looks like Mohbad to him, Aloba vehemently replied, “No, no, no. With what I’m seeing, he’s not. If the DNA says he is, it’s acceptable.”

Aloba went on to state that his son, Adura, who lived with Mohbad, has also distanced himself and has not reached out to him or visited him since the incident.

“Adura is now 22 years old, but he never called me or came to my house since his brother’s death. It’s like some people are covering him. We used to be together, but something separated us after Mohbad’s death.

“Adura is supposed to fill me in on exactly what happened to his brother; they were living in the same house. He is supposed to know,” Aloba stated.

Speaking on the investigation into Mohbad’s death, Aloba criticised the delay in the coroner’s inquest and urged the Lagos State government to reopen it.

“The issue is delay, and delay results in denial. I appreciate the people working with me, but unfortunately, I’m not satisfied with the way the case is going now,” he said.

Aloba further revealed that a private autopsy had been conducted but the results could not be presented until the coroner’s inquest was reopened.

He said, “The coroner inquest was delayed, so I want to appeal to the Lagos state government to reopen the coroner inquest. There are a lot of things we should be doing now. We have done the private autopsy, but I cannot present the result now until the coroner is opened.

“I, myself, have not witnessed the result. The order was given to us from the court, so it is not something they will present to me. They need to present it to the court, but the court was closed.

“I paid for it, but I can’t demand for the result. When I asked him, he said how is he going to present it in the court when they ask him if anybody has witnessed the result.”

PUNCH reports that a private autopsy and toxicology conducted by the family of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, aka Mohbad, to determine the cause of his death is ready.

This development was after the previous autopsy conducted by the Lagos State Government was declared inconclusive and rejected by the family. Hence, the
Coroner’s Court sitting in the Ikorodu area of the state granted the family permission to conduct an independent autopsy and toxicology test on Mohbad.

A group of concerned citizens, The Critical Thinkers Group, also called for the reopening of the coroner’s inquest into the death of the singer, saying that the suspension of the inquest had raised concerns while prolonging the search for answers about the singer’s death.

COCOBOD Boss, Boahen Aidoo Resigns

0

In a surprise move, Joseph Boahen Aidoo, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), has tendered his resignation, effective January 7, 2025.

This development comes on the heels of a government directive to cease operations of all boards of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs).

In his resignation letter, addressed to President John Dramani Mahama, Mr Aidoo expressed his profound gratitude to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, and the people of Ghana for the opportunity to serve as CEO of COCOBOD for the past eight years.
He described his tenure as “an incredible honour” and acknowledged the trust placed in him.

Joseph Aidoo’s resignation was voluntary, as his renewed appointment under the COCOBOD Law, 1984 (PNDCL 81), was set to conclude in July 2025.

However, he chose to step aside earlier to ensure a smooth transition and enable stakeholders and business partners to establish timely connections with the incoming head of the institution.

During his tenure, Aidoo implemented several initiatives aimed at enhancing the welfare of cocoa farmers, boosting productivity, and increasing Ghana’s share of the international cocoa and chocolate industry revenue.

Some notable achievements include the introduction of a comprehensive cocoa farmer database, the successful launch of the Cocoa Farmers Pension Scheme, and the implementation of a new financing model that eliminated the need for external borrowing.

Joseph Aidoo’s leadership also saw Ghana achieve its highest-ever cocoa production of over one million metric tonnes.

He was instrumental in securing an additional $400 income per tonne for cocoa farmers through the Living Income Differential (LID) for cocoa sales from Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire.

As Joseph Aidoo departs, he remains committed to the advancement of Ghana’s cocoa sector and has expressed his willingness to support any transition processes that may be required.

His legacy as CEO of COCOBOD will undoubtedly be remembered as a significant contributor to the development of Ghana’s cocoa industry.

The police have launched an investigation into the death of a three-year-old boy in Atobease, a farming community in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region.

The three-year-old boy, who went missing on January 16, 2025, was found dead in an illegal mining ‘galamsey’ pit a few meters from the community at dawn on Friday, January 17.

The tragic discovery was made following an intense search by family members, community residents, and the police.

Confirming the incident in an interview with Citi News, the Assembly Member for the Atobease Electoral Area, Samuel Yeboah, expressed doubts that the child had drowned, raising suspicions of foul play.

He, however, stated that the police have commenced investigations to determine the actual cause of death.

Mr. Yeboah also revealed that this is not the first time such an incident has occurred in the area. He assured authorities are taking steps to reclaim and cover all abandoned mining pits to prevent further tragedies.

The child’s body has since been deposited at the morgue as investigations continue.

How A Mushroom Company With Capital $2,700 Won $96M Contract Under NPP Gov’t

0

A due diligence report has revealed a glaring Irregularities surrounding the $96 million contract awarded to Hans & Co for the decommissioning of Ghana’s Saltpond oilfield. The report highlights issues of political interference, regulatory failures, and financial mismanagement under President Akufo Addo’s administration.

In a detailed post shared on his Facebook wall, Bright Simons revealed that Hans & Co, incorporated in 2017 with a stated capital of just $2,700, was handpicked for the lucrative contract despite lacking the financial and technical credentials for such a high-stakes project. Politically exposed individuals dominated the negotiation, with a former Deputy Director of State Protocol playing a central role. Strangely, Simons revealed that one individual presented as the company’s chairman during negotiations was not listed as a Director in its incorporation documents.

“Of the four key Hans & Co personnel engaged in the contracting process, two used secondary identities. Only the Project Director, Kennedy Oham, who used to manage the Saltpond oilfield for the last operator until a massive public spat, had the remotest connection to the petroleum industry” Bright Simons revealed.

The contract aimed to seal oil wells and dismantle an aging offshore platform to prevent environmental damage and maritime hazards. However, according to Bright Simons, the scope of work remains incomplete, with the company abandoning the project after partial delivery and demanding an additional $81 million to continue.

The report also revealed critical lapses in regulatory compliance. Simons revealed that Hans & Co was not registered with the Petroleum Commission, a legal requirement for companies operating in Ghana’s oilfields. Additionally, oversight from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other marine regulators was ignored, raising concerns about environmental safety.

Further compounding the issue, TSB-Ensol, the project management firm hired to supervise the work, was sidelined due to Hans & Co’s political influence, leaving the project largely unchecked.

Bright Simons revelations have triggered widespread backlash, with calls for a full investigation into the contract award process.

NOYED-Ghana forms women leaders’ platform, youth networks at Savelugu Municipality

0

By Solomon Gumah

Tamale, Jan. 18, GNA – A District-based Women Leaders’ Platform and Youth Networks to Champion Inclusion Agenda has been formed in the Savelugu Municipality, to promote leadership, inclusion, and meaningful participation of women and youth in decision-making processes in the area.

It was formed by the Net Organisation for Youth Empowerment and Development

(NOYED-Ghana), a Non-governmental Organisation (NGO), as part of the implementation of the Heard Everywhere and Represented Daily (HEARD) project, which is an initiative of Norsaac, an NGO.

Members of the Platform and Networks, following their formation and meeting in Tamale, issued a press statement, calling on President John Mahama and his government to prioritise women’s participation in local governance.

The statement, read by Miss Zeinab Maltiti Mohammed, a Member of the Savelugu Youth Centre, called on the government to ensure that a minimum of 30 per cent appointments to the Savelugu Municipal Assembly were women.

It said this was a vital step towards rectifying the current underrepresentation of women in local governance and decision-making processes in the area.

It said, “Our appeal is anchored on several key National Democratic Congress manifesto promises, government policies and international frameworks to which Ghana and President John Mahama have pledged adherence.”

The statement said “It is noteworthy that women constitute over 50% of the population in the Savelugu Municipality. However, their representation in key decision-making processes remains disproportionately low. This imbalance not only stifles inclusive development but also undermines efforts to address the unique challenges confronted by women and girls in the Savelugu Municipality and beyond.”

It commended the President for the creation of a new Ministry for Youth Development and Empowerment saying, “We look forward with hope to seeing more of the youth serving in your government.”

Mr Alhassan Abdulai Iddi, the Executive Director, NOYED-Ghana, said the HEARD project was to empower rural vulnerable youth and women, and community-based organisations to increase their funding capacity, diversity in membership and supportive alliances/coalitions to mobilise and influence actions of state actors for inclusive governance.

Madam Lyena Ama Kakraba, the Gender Desk Officer, Savelugu Municipality, said it was unfortunate that there was only one female government appointee amongst Assembly Members of the Savelugu Municipal Assembly, whose appointments were recently revoked.

The Acting Director-General of the National Lotteries Authority (NLA), Mohammed Abdul Salam, has called for unity and a professional focus within the institution, emphasising that service to the nation should rise above political affiliations.

During a formal address to introduce himself to the NLA staff, Mohammed Abdul Salam urged his team to align their efforts towards achieving the organization’s goals.

He clarified that his leadership would prioritise inclusivity and equal service for all, regardless of political affiliations.

“Yes, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is in power, and my appointment came through the government.

“However, my mandate here is not to serve one group of people but everyone,” he stated, setting a tone of impartiality and commitment to public service.

He also discouraged political discussions during office hours, asserting that such conversations could detract from the institution’s core mission.

“Let us leave political matters outside the office. During work hours, let’s focus solely on delivering results and advancing the mission of the NLA,” Abdul Salam said.

Despite this firm stance on maintaining a professional atmosphere during working hours, he reassured his colleagues that he was open to engaging in political discourse outside office hours.

“If you have political concerns or want to discuss matters relating to the NDC, I’m more than happy to engage with you but not during work hours. Let’s separate work and politics to maintain harmony and productivity,” he added.

Following initial reports that seasoned broadcaster Kofi Adomah suffered injuries to his eyes due to residues from gunpowder, his wife, Miracle Adomah has come out to set the records straight, confirming that her husband was shot in the eyes.

In a video shared by Kofi TV on January 18, 2025, Miracle Adomah, who is also the Benkum Hemaa of Gomoa Amforo, stated that the journalist was shot in the face and that it wasn’t gunpowder as speculated in the media.

“We all know that before someone shoots a gun during a festival, the person shoots to the skies but this time around the person who pulled the trigger didn’t shoot into the sky. He placed the gun on his shoulder and pulled the trigger. So the person shot my husband in the face and it wasn’t just gunpowder. Even the camera he was working with fell.

“If you watch the video you can see blood oozing out of him. A young lady was there who called for help and he was rushed to the hospital,” she said.

Miracle Adomah added that he received prompt medical attention in Dormaa and when the situation became critical, he was rushed to Berekum Hospital for further attention.

“The doctors who treated him did well. Because they tried their best to make sure he didn’t lose his eyesight. He was transferred to Berekum for a scan and after he was transferred back to Accra… The incident happened on a Friday,” she added.

Miracle Adomah also debunked claims that she was present at the festival.

“There is news speculating that I was present at the festival because I was sworn in recently as a queen mother so I was invited to the programme. But I want to say that I wasn’t present. With all humility, I wasn’t present at the event.”

Some American companies Ghana owes up to $251 million

0

Zipline is a medical drone service that operates in Ghana Zipline is a medical drone service that operates in Ghana

Ghana owes several foreign countries including America over 200 million dollars.

The US-based companies are piling pressure on the International Monetary Fund to ensure that Ghana pays the debts with funding from its ongoing programme to cement the country’s relationship with Ghana or forfeit further aid or assistance.

These businesses include Twin City Energy (TCE), American Tower Company, GSM, Chubb, Kosmos Energy, and Zipline.

A Ranking Member of the United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, Senator James E. Risch, has noted that Ghana owes American companies approximately $251 million.

He added that the repayment of these debts will significantly influence the future relationship between the two countries.

Senator Risch urged Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen to leverage America’s position as the IMF’s largest shareholder to ensure the Fund compels Ghana to repay its debts to American entities.

According to him, these debts place a severe financial burden on the companies and threaten their operations in Ghana.

“It is my understanding that the government of Ghana owes approximately $251 million in outstanding payments to American companies. These unpaid debts place substantial financial strain on U.S. businesses in Ghana and jeopardize their operations and investments,” Senator Risch wrote.

The letter was copied to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, U.S. Executive Director of the IMF Elizabeth Shortino, and DFC CEO Scott Nathan.

The Senator expressed concern that the IMF’s anticipated approval of a $3 billion Extended Credit Facility for Ghana does not account for these debts.

He believes this could set a harmful precedent for other sovereign borrowers and negatively impact U.S. companies operating abroad.

Two of the affected companies, Twin City Energy and Chubb, have investments backed by the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), which means Ghana’s arrears affect not only private businesses but also investments financed by U.S. taxpayers.

Senator Risch urged the Treasury Secretary to use the United States’ position as the IMF’s largest shareholder to condition U.S. support for further IMF assistance to Ghana on the country’s commitment to repaying its debts to American companies.

“I urge you to direct our executive director at the IMF to make clear that U.S. support for further IMF assistance to Ghana will depend on a good-faith effort to establish a concrete and enforceable repayment plan for the remaining outstanding arrears,” he stated.

He suggested that the proposed repayment plan include transparent auditing, reporting, and enforcement mechanisms to ensure compliance.

He also recommended allocating portions of IMF disbursements specifically to clear debts owed to American companies.

Senator Risch cautioned that proceeding with IMF disbursements without addressing Ghana’s debt obligations could undermine constructive U.S. engagement with Ghana and deepen its reliance on international financial assistance.

“Allowing the next disbursement without addressing these concerns deepens Ghana’s reliance on international assistance while neglecting its obligations to U.S. private-sector partners,” he warned.

He urged the U.S. Treasury and its executive director at the IMF to treat the resolution of Ghana’s outstanding debts with urgency, emphasising that future U.S. support should be tied to responsible fiscal practices and fair treatment of American interests abroad.

Ghana is currently awaiting a third review from the IMF before receiving further disbursements.

Suitcases of suspected cocaine found in Sierra Leone embassy vehicle

Sierra Leone has recalled its ambassador from neighbouring Guinea after seven suitcases containing suspected cocaine were found in an embassy vehicle.

On Monday, Guinean authorities impounded a vehicle belonging to Sierra Leone’s embassy and detained its occupants on suspicion of possessing “substances suspected to be cocaine”, Sierra Leone’s Foreign Minister Alhaji Musa Timothy Kabba said.

“In light of this serious development, the government has urgently recalled Sierra Leone’s ambassador to Guinea, Ambassador Mr Alimamy Bangura, to Freetown to provide a full account of the incident,” he added.

The recalled envoy was not in the car and is not under arrest, the minister said.

“It has not been proven that the ambassador is involved in this trafficking,” Kabba said.

About $2,000 (£1,600) in cash was found along with the seven suitcases, according to the minister, who did not specify the weight of the suspected drugs.

He said the two West African countries were cooperating in a “thorough” investigation of the incident, pledging that all responsible parties would be held accountable.

“Anyone found guilty of breaking Sierra Leonean and international drug trafficking laws will face full force of the law.”

West Africa is a major transit point for the trafficking of cocaine from Latin America, where it is produced, to Europe, one of the drug’s main markets.

But some drugs are also being consumed locally.

Last April, Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio declared drug abuse in the country a national emergency.

Kush, a psychoactive blend of addictive substances, has been prevalent in the country for years.

Local communities have called on the government to tackle the scourge and help them deal with drug users.

{L} Beatrice Annan, {R} Krobea Kwabena Asante

A member of the communications team of the National Democratic Congress, Beatrice Annan, has refuted claims made by Krobea Kwabena Asante, an aide to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, regarding discussions during a recent meeting between the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the new government.

On Thursday, January 9, 2025, President John Mahama, alongside Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang and other members of the government, held a meeting with the IMF to address Ghana’s economic challenges.

However, shortly after the meeting, Krobea Kwabena Asante, a lawyer and aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, took to social media to share purported details of the discussion.

In his Facebook posts, Asante alleged that the IMF conveyed three key points during the meeting, including a claim that Ghana’s economy was in good shape and that the banking sector clean-up could not be reversed.

In response, Beatrice Annan, who stated that she was present at the meeting, dismissed Asante’s claims as false. In her own Facebook post, she denied the accuracy of the details he provided, asserting that none of the issues he mentioned were discussed.

“This is very false. Disregard the lies. I was in the said meeting, and none of the things written here were discussed,” Annan wrote on Facebook.

She went on to criticize Asante, accusing him of spreading misinformation. “The NPP lies will not stand. Krobea is still at stage 3 of grief,” she added, taking a jab at Asante’s supposed reaction to the NPP’s electoral loss.

Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, revealed the meeting was a success as President Mahama seeks to renegotiate the IMF program initiated by the NPP government in an effort to steer Ghana toward economic recovery.

No justification for COVID levy in 2025

0

Dr. Yao Graham, Coordinator of the Third World Network, has called for the abolition of the COVID-19 levy, arguing that it has outlived its purpose in a post-pandemic era.

The levy, introduced during the height of the pandemic by the previous government, continues to face criticism for its prolonged implementation.

Speaking on The Big Issue with Selorm Adonoo on Channel One TV, Dr. Graham asserted, “COVID-Levy, COVID-19 pandemic is long gone. So really, there’s no reason to maintain that. There’s no justification for a COVID-19 levy in 2025. Absolutely none. We’ve had malaria for a long time, but we don’t have a malaria tax in this country.”

Dr. Graham’s comments come in the wake of remarks by Finance Minister-Designate Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, who hinted that a John Dramani Mahama-led administration would abolish taxes such as the E-Levy and Betting Tax in its first budget. Dr. Forson indicated that the revenue shortfall would be addressed through expenditure cuts.

However, Dr. Gideon Boako, Member of Parliament for Tano North, has raised concerns about the potential introduction of new taxes to offset the removal of the E-Levy and Betting Tax.

Dr. Graham criticized the E-Levy for its disproportionate social impact, particularly on the poor, and strongly advocated for its removal. “E-Levy, in terms of its social impact, who pays? There’s a case to be made for its scrapping,” he stated.

He also opposed the retention of the Betting Tax, highlighting its detrimental effects on the youth. “Betting has become pervasive because young people don’t have work. A lot of time is being spent by young people betting. In other countries, taxes on betting have been used to discourage it, because betting is addictive and socially disruptive.”

In addition to calling for the abolition of these levies, Dr. Graham urged the government to introduce an Emission Tax to foster a green economy. He emphasized the need for tax reforms to create a fairer and more progressive system that lessens the burden on citizens while diversifying revenue sources.

Three in court over alleged kidnapping and assault of businessman

0

Three individuals have been brought before an Accra Circuit Court for their alleged involvement in the kidnapping and assault of a businessman.

The accused are Albert Tetteh Botchway, 34, David Burke, 34, both businessmen and Promise Lamptey, 29, a security guard.

Two other suspects, Awudu Balm and Katanga, remain at large.

The five are accused of kidnapping Kwadwo Agyapong Berry, a businessman, over a failed business investment.

They face charges including conspiracy to commit a crime (kidnapping), kidnapping, conspiracy to commit a crime and assault.

When the case was called, the first accused, Botchway, was absent but submitted a medical report to the court.

The second accused, David Burke, and the third accused, Promise Lamptey, were present and both denied the charges against them.

Presiding Judge Mrs. Susana Eduful granted Burke and Lamptey bail in the sum of GHC50,000 each, with two sureties each.

One surety must earn at least GHC5,000, while the other must be an immediate family member.

The case has been adjourned to February 3, 2025.

The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Jonas Lawer, informed the court that the complainant, Kwadwo Agyapong Berry, resides in Amrahia, near Adenta in Accra, while the accused, Botchway, Burke, and Lamptey, live in Labadi.

The court was told that Lamptey, Balm, and Katanga are Botchway’s employees.

On December 14, 2024, Berry, along with Botchway and Burke, took Benjamin Appiah Boateng to Laboma Beach to interrogate him about the alleged misappropriation of over $1.6 million from their investment.

According to the prosecution, Boateng was detained at Laboma Beach, with Botchway present, while the complainant visited daily to monitor Boateng’s efforts to recover the money.

On December 18, 2024, Burke called the complainant, asking him to come to Laboma Beach on December 19, 2024, around 0700 hours, for a meeting with both Burke and Botchway.

The prosecution said on December 19, 2024, the complainant drove to Laboma Beach for the meeting, and he was ushered to the office of Botchway by Burke.

The prosecution stated that while at Botchway’s office, Botchway deliberately stepped out.

During this time, Lamptey, Balm, and Katanga entered the office and instructed Burke to leave.

“At this stage, Lamptey, Balm and Katanga then locked the door of the office, handcuffed the complainant and subjected him to severe beating including the use of an electric wire to shock him,” the Prosecution said.

The prosecution explained that the complainant reported that Lamptey, Balm, and Katanga told him that Boateng had confessed that the $600,000 investment belonging to Botchway and Burke was with him (complainant).

The complainant was reportedly held in Botchway’s office from 0730 hours to 2030 hours on December 19, 2024, until the Police Intelligence Department received a tip about the incident and rescued him.

On January 2, 2025, Botchway and Lamptey were arrested for further investigations.

During questioning, Lamptey admitted to the offence but claimed that Boateng had implicated the complainant as his accomplice during their interrogation, which led to their actions.

On January 10, 2025, Burke was also arrested for investigations and later granted police enquiry bail.

The prosecution stated that Botchway, Burke, and Lamptey have been charged, while efforts continue to arrest Balm and Katanga.

NDC Regional Communication Officer withdraws from DCE contest

0

Issah Issahaku Kantagyeri, the Regional Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has withdrawn his interest to become the chief executive officer of the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa (DBI) district.

In a letter addressed to the NDC Regional Chairman following the release of the nominees list on January 15, Mr. Kantagyeri said his decision is borne out of personal reasons.

Mahama appoints Asiedu Nketia’s son as Ag. Deputy MIIF CEO

0

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Dr Kweku Asiedu Nketia, the son of John Asiedu Nketia, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF).

The announcement was made in a press statement issued by the Presidency on Friday, 17th January. MIIF is a government agency responsible for maximising the value derived from Ghana’s mineral wealth to benefit the nation.

This follows similar trends in Ghana’s political history, where appointments of individuals closely related to political leaders have drawn significant attention.

During the Akufo-Addo administration, for instance, Dr Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo, the son of former Senior Minister Yaw Osafo-Maafo, was appointed Deputy Director-General of SSNIT and later promoted to Director-General.

However, this pattern of appointments has not been without controversy. It will be recalled that the NDC, then in opposition, criticised the Akufo-Addo administration for appointing relatives of key political figures to high-profile roles.

These past critiques have resurfaced in public discourse, with some questioning whether the same standards are being upheld under President Mahama’s government.

Despite the mixed reactions, many believe Dr Kweku Asiedu Nketia’s qualifications and expertise will bring value to MIIF.

Media personality Bridget Otoo has cautioned appointees of the John Dramani Mahama administration to be respectful and receptive of party communicators and footsoldiers.

In a post shared on X on January 18, 2025, Bridget Otoo stated that such appointees should not disrespect anyone because of their current positions.

Bridget Otoo, who has been a staunch and vocal member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), emphasised that if there is a scandal during their tenure of office, it’s the party faithful who will speak in their favour.

“When the scandal happens, when you falter, it is these same people who would speak in support of you! Don’t look down on anyone because you got an appointment! You are a leader, act as such!” she said.

President John Dramani Mahama, after assuming office on January 7, 2025, has appointed some members of the NDC into office to serve as ministers of state and Chief Executive Officers (CEOs).

The ministries include finance, trade, agribusiness, industry, fisheries, and aquaculture, tourism, culture, and creative Arts, among others.

GhanaWeb has learned that President John Dramani Mahama is expected to submit the final list of his ministerial nominations and appointments to the Speaker of Parliament on Monday, January 22, 2025.

Ghana National Fire Service tender truck Ghana National Fire Service tender truck

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has disclosed that personnel working for the service are still not on any form of insurance despite the dangers associated with their work.

This was disclosed by ADO1 Alex Nartey in an interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM.

He said, “Fire personnel don’t have any form of insurance. What we have is what all other public service workers enjoy, which is known as workman compensation. Even with that, you would have to use your own resources and later the receipt for you to be reimbursed after something.”

He said it took the intervention of the leadership of GNFS to support some personnel who got injured in the line of their duties recently.

According to Alex Nartey, the GNFS has dedicated officers who are committed to dealing with emergency situations such as fires, floods, accidents, and so on.

He also lamented that several of their fire engines are out of date and will need to be replaced.

Some of the engines, he stated, were over 20 years old and needed to be replaced.

He pointed out that the engine, which was new to their fleet of fire engines, was 14 years old.

He added that the previous administration had promised to buy them new fire engines, which could work.

Joseph Boahen Aidoo has tendered his resignation as the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD).

According to him, this decision follows recent communication dated January 13, 2025, regarding the cessation of all boards of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs).

In a letter dated January 16, 2025, Boahen Aidoo expressed his profound gratitude to former President His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, and the good people of Ghana for granting him the rare privilege of serving the nation as Chief Executive of the Ghana Cocoa Board for the past eight years.

He noted that this opportunity has been an incredible honour and that he is deeply grateful for the trust placed in him.

Boahen Aidoo stated that even though he could have stayed on until July, he has decided to exit office now for good reasons.

“While my renewed appointment under the COCOBOD Law, 1984 (PNDCL 81), was set to conclude in July 2025, I have chosen to step aside earlier to ensure a smooth transition and enable stakeholders and business partners to establish timely connections with the incoming head of the institution.”

“I remain committed to the advancement of Ghana’s cocoa sector and stand ready to support any transition processes that may be required. The experience of serving in this capacity has been both rewarding and enlightening, and I am grateful for the opportunity to have contributed to the development of our nation’s cocoa industry,” the statement concluded.
