The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is preparing to unveil a revamped management committee for the Black Stars, according to Ghanasoccernet.com.
This development follows the dissolution of the previous management team after Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
The decision to reconstitute the management committee comes on the heels of a disappointing run at the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast, where the Black Stars exited at the group stage for the second consecutive time.
In an earlier adjustment, Dr. Randy Abbey was brought into the committee, but the team’s failure to secure qualification for the 2025 AFCON led the GFA to disband the group entirely.
According to a source, the GFA is finalizing plans to announce the new team, which will feature Dr. Randy Abbey as Chairman.
Former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah is expected to join the committee, alongside FC Samartex president Dr. Richard Duah Nsenkyire and Greater Accra Regional Football Association chairman Samuel Aboabire.
In addition to the new management structure, the GFA is reportedly considering appointing a technical director to support Black Stars head coach Otto Addo. The aim is to bolster the team’s preparations for the resumption of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Following their underwhelming AFCON qualifiers, the Black Stars will be eager to bounce back with strong performances in their upcoming World Cup qualifying matches against Chad and Madagascar, scheduled for March this year.
The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (EPCG), Rt. Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. Divine Agbeko has advised President John Dramani Mahama to remove what he described as naughty taxes introduced by the erstwhile Akufo-Addo government.
He emphasized that this should be prime on the agenda list of the current government as these taxes have overburdened Ghanaians already facing economic hardships.

A new hairdo can do wonders for your self-esteem and your overall appearance; it’s a strong form of personal expression. No matter your hair type—long locks, a stylish haircut, or lovely curls—there are innumerable stunning hairstyles that you may effortlessly copy to appear stunning for any event.
In this piece, we’ll take a look at a number of beautiful hairdos that are both simple to pull off and adaptable to a wide range of hair textures and lengths.
Beach Breaks: Beach waves are ideal for laid-back gatherings or a day at the beach because of their easygoing and carefree mood. To achieve this style, just part your hair and wrap a curling iron or wand around each area. Once the curls are loose, give them a little tumbling with your fingers and spritz them with sea salt spray for a beachy, dishevelled look.
Elevated Ponytail Style: An enduringly chic hairdo, a high ponytail is sure to turn heads. Put a hair tie over your head’s crown and sweep your hair back for an elegant style. To make it more stylish, wrap a little hair around the hair tie. No matter the occasion, this hairdo will be appropriate.
Beautiful Braided Updo: Try a sophisticated braided updo if you’re going for a dressier look. First, using hair from both sides, braid your hair in a French manner along the top of your head. Put the rest of your hair in a low bun at your nape and pin it in place. No formal occasion is complete without this classic hairdo. You can take the messy bun to the next level with its adaptability and ease of wear. Leave a few strands out to frame your face and pull your hair back into a loose bun for an elegant look. Use bobby pins to fasten the bun and pluck off a few stray strands to frame your face. You can’t go wrong with this laid-back yet stylish look for any occasion. A textured pixie cut is proof that short hair is every bit as chic and adaptable as long hair. A little texturizing spray or pomade may do wonders for a pixie cut’s texture. To achieve a textured and edgy style that brings off your best features, simply use your fingers to tousle and define the layers.
The NPP presidential candidate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia conceded defeat to ex-President Mahama, 16 hours after the ballot was closed in the 2024 general election. The significant point is that the decision was not based on the results declared by the Electoral Commission (EC) but the internally generated results compiled by the NPP. Significant to note was also the Press briefing by the NDC’s Communication Director Sammy Gyamfi on 8th December 2024, which gave sufficient proof that the NDC had also compiled their own results unlike the previous elections.
The question then is, if the two main political parties could collate their results in less than 24hrs after the close of the ballot, why can’t the EC who is better resourced do it better? This clearly confirms that there is something basically wrong with the EC’s system of collation. The EC in ensuring accuracy has created unnecessary delays in releasing results and has thus created tension making the process of collation more cumbersome.
The EC has always been appealing to Ghanaians to exercise patience whilst the collation is on-going, and for how long will this appeal continue? It happened in 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024. We always assume that Ghanaians are peaceful, but it is not true if the recent violence that followed declaration of results are anything to go by. The NDC had planned to turn this country into a war zone, but the calculated step taken by Dr Bawumia to concede defeat early, helped prevent a catastrophe that would have befallen this nation.
Elections are won or lost at the polling station. This in effect means that once the polling station results have been declared, a party has either won or lost the election. Collation is therefore cosmetic and involves simple addition of results of all polling stations for each constituency. This is the job the EC (seemingly) has proved incapable of managing peacefully. Yes, care must be taken to ensure that mistakes are avoided, but this must be weighed against the possibility of an outbreak of violence when unnecessarily delayed. The decision to pull all polling agents together at an agreed location (Collation Centre) is a recipe for disaster when tensions are high and must be reviewed.
In addition to collating the results of polling stations, the centres also serve as the second line of appeal in disagreed polling station results and this is the centre where the ballot is counted the third time. Consequently, the centres have become “hot spots” created by the EC and always choked with people who have no business being there. The control of the crowd at these centres (276 constituencies/centres) has been a major problem for the security services especially those in remote areas. The collation of results is key to the electoral process, and it is very necessary that the current practice be reviewed to remove the stress that has been placed on it.
I call for the abolition of collation centres. My reason is that after the counting of the ballot at the polling stations, all other regulations have been satisfied, the results sheets or “pink sheets” or certificates are signed by all agents. After the agents of candidates have appended their signatures against the results of their candidates, the presiding officers of the EC retains the original certificate, and the duplicate copies are given to the agents. The EC’s copy serves as a benchmark for certification of all duplicate copies. The need to involve party agents in the collation process becomes unnecessary because that is the responsibility of the EC and staff.
To assemble at a collation centre to total results which have been issued by the EC to all parties is sheer waste of time. If this collation issue is not handled properly, it could one day turn the whole country upside down. The EC has the mandate to collate all results and that to my mind is what the EC must do. Sadly, the EC in exercising its authority on the collation, has surrendered it on the cover of transparency by involving agents and this has compounded the problem of collation. My point is that you don’t need agents when you are collating results because they all have copies of the results.
My suggestion is that after the results certificates (normally referred to as “pink sheet”) have been signed by all agents, before copies are issued to agents, the original copy must be scanned and immediately sent to the EC’s operations room in Accra. After this action, copies must be given to the agents by presiding officers., The Returning Officers should then retire to an office or an agreed area where presiding officers will assemble with the original copies of the “pink sheets” for the collation of the results. I maintain that collation of the results is the sole responsibility of the EC and should be treated as such and no agents should be involved.
When the collation is completed, copies of the collated results must be released to parties and candidates who should be given 24hrs to cross-check the results with their “pink sheets” before the results are declared. Where there are discrepancies, the complaints should be referred to an arbitration committee with evidence supported by – “pink sheets”. Since the original copies of the pink sheets are held by the EC, it should not be difficult for the Arbitration Committees to do their job. The rules and regulations should be amended to abolish collation centres and establish an Arbitration committee by the EC if the suggestion is accepted. It is my belief that this suggestion will eliminate violence at collation centres and diffuse the tension normally created at the Centres. The third counting of the ballot at the collation centre should also be abolished and the counting should take place at the polling station and no other place because “elections are won or lost at the polling station”. It is again emphasized that collation of results is the sole responsibility of the EC and must be treated as such and should never be surrendered to the “whims and caprices” of political agents.
Ghana’s democratic journey which has always been praised by many countries in the world is always threatened internally by intimidation, violence and arbitrariness by certain individuals who think they know better than the EC. Sadly, in the recent elections, it has been the NDC who wants to usurp the powers of the EC and win all the seats whether foul or clean. The reports that emanated from the collation centres of the following nine constituencies (Ahafo Ano North, Techiman South, Ahafo Ano South West, Nsawam Adoagyiri, Obuasi East, Okaikwei Central, Tema Central, Dome-Kwabenya and Ablekuma North) indicated complete anarchy which compelled the EC to suspend the collation. In some constituencies, the lives of returning officers were threatened to declare results whilst in other constituencies, results were declared under duress. Results declared under duress are null and void in law and everyone involved in the elections knows it very well. Such an action undermines democracy and mocks the peace we claim to have and all those involved must bow down their heads in shame.
Sadly, the incoming president criticising the EC for annulling some results which were declared under duress gave an indication that whatever the EC does will not be accepted. What a shame. If the presidential results had been declared under duress, this country would have been under siege. The independence of the EC is the foundation of our democracy and must be maintained but the NDC wants to take the law into their own hands. The NDC was happy when the same EC declared their presidential candidate the winner of the presidential elections and yet they question the same EC over cancellation of other results under duress.
Collation results are necessary and part of the electoral process to declare winners, but such centres require the presence of presiding and returning officers in whose possession are the original “pink sheets”. The presence of political parties is unnecessary because it is the responsibility of the EC to collate the results. All political parties also have duplicate copies of the “pink sheets” and therefore whilst the EC is collating the results, political parties must do the same. When the EC completes its collation a copy each is given to political parties to confirm or otherwise. Challenging the collated results of the EC, must always be supported by “pink sheets” issued to political parties. Once political parties are eliminated from the collation centres there will be peace.
Ghana has so far managed violence after elections but from recent experience, a lot more effort is needed to ensure that issues that contribute to violence are eliminated from the electoral process for peace to prevail.

President John Mahama has criticised the erstwhile New Patriotic Party (NPP) government over the cost of the abandoned National Cathedral project.
According to Mr Mahama, the proposed cost is excessive, and he believes the building can be completed at a more reasonable amount.
He pointed out that a similar facility in Nigeria was constructed at a much lower cost than the one planned for Ghana.
“This project must be completed at a reasonable cost. Given the current circumstances Ghana is facing, it makes no sense to undertake such a project at a staggering sum of $400 million. I am informed that the National Ecumenical Centre in Abuja, which serves all Christian denominations in Nigeria, was built at a cost of $30 million. I believe we can achieve this project at a much more reasonable figure, and together, we can raise the necessary funds,” he said.
Speaking at his first National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service in Accra on Sunday, January 12, Mr Mahama added that his government might decide to continue the project, and the location could also be reconsidered. “Such a reconsideration of this project might even include changing the current site that was chosen for the project,” he noted.
The National Cathedral project, initiated by former President Akufo-Addo, was set to cost $400 million. Akufo-Addo had originally stated that the project would be funded through private fundraising efforts rather than public funds; however, it later emerged that state funds were being used.
Despite the use of public funds, the project remains incomplete, with accusations of mismanagement of the funds by those tasked with overseeing the work. The former government has since faced significant criticism for alleged corruption or possible financial loss to the state.
Meanwhile, Mahama reaffirmed that his government would not use state funds to complete the cathedral. “On the future of the project, the Cathedral, I believe that all of us, as Christians, must forge a consensus on how to achieve this project without recourse to public funds,” he stated.
Currently, the project is at the foundation stage. Once completed, the National Cathedral will serve as a denominational centre for religious bodies in the country, providing a venue for their activities.
It is also intended to become a tourist site, featuring several facilities such as a museum, learning centre, and other auxiliary amenities.
Benin-born American actor Djimon Gaston Hounsou has recently discussed his challenges in the Hollywood film industry, expressing his concerns.
Despite working in Hollywood for nearly thirty years, Hounsou feels that he is not compensated as well as some of his peers in the industry.
This lack of fair pay has resulted in financial difficulties for him, despite his fame and roles in major movies.
“After being in the industry for over two decades, receiving two Oscar nominations, and appearing in blockbuster films, I am still struggling to make ends meet. I am definitely being underpaid,” he revealed during an interview with Larry Madowo on CNN.
Hounsou also shared a heartbreaking incident where he was overlooked for a Golden Globe Award because the organisers did not believe he deserved the recognition.
He emphasised that the Hollywood industry needs to address issues of racism, as Black actors are often not given the respect they deserve.
“I was nominated for a Golden Globe, but the Oscars overlooked me. They viewed me as someone who had just arrived and was not worthy of recognition. Despite proving them wrong, I still did not receive the respect I deserved as an actor. The idea of diversity still has a long way to go, and systemic racism cannot be eradicated overnight,” he stated.

President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled plans to uncap the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) levy in the next budget to enhance healthcare access for all Ghanaians.
Speaking at the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service held at the Ohene Konadu Auditorium, University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), on January 12, 2025, President Mahama reaffirmed his government’s commitment to making healthcare accessible and equitable.
“We will prioritize healthcare and ensure that every Ghanaian, no matter their location or economic status, has access to quality medical care,” he stated. “In this regard, we will compile an inventory of all uncompleted health facilities and prepare a plan and programme to complete and operationalize these.”
He further explained that uncapping the NHIS levy is a crucial step toward equipping the National Health Insurance Authority with sufficient funds to reimburse healthcare providers for the services they render.
“This is important so that the National Health Insurance Authority can have sufficient funds to reimburse health service providers for the care that they provide to the public,” he added.
President Mahama also emphasized education as another key focus of his administration, with plans to improve infrastructure, equip teachers with essential resources, and expand access to technology for students.
These efforts, he noted, are part of a broader vision to elevate critical sectors of national development.

The Dangote Refinery has emerged as a transformative force in Nigeria’s econom
Nigeria’s oil industry is poised for growth as petroleum marketers prepare to launch a new 50,000 barrels per day (bpd) refinery.
According to Billy Gillis-Harry, National President of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN), the refinery will be developed in collaboration with three oil companies and located in Akwa Ibom State.
As Africa’s largest oil producer, Nigeria has long faced the challenge of being a leading crude oil exporter while heavily dependent on imported refined products.
To address this imbalance and enhance its oil production capacity, the country is making refinery development a key focus of its energy strategy.
This strategy focuses on building new refineries, modernizing existing facilities, and fostering partnerships to enhance efficiency and achieve self-sufficiency in the petroleum sector.
Significant progress can be seen in the rehabilitation of government-owned refineries like Warri and Port Harcourt and the promotion of modular refineries nationwide.
The Dangote Refinery has emerged as a transformative force in Nigeria’s economy, positioning itself as a major player in the global petroleum industry.
Between April and September 2024, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) reported that the refinery supplied 489,500 MT of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) and 29,000 MT of Jet A1 fuel.
These were distributed via 17 AGO shipments to Lagos, 6 to Warri, 2 to Port Harcourt, and 1 to Calabar, highlighting its key role in domestic fuel supply.
The Dangote Refinery has also commenced exporting Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to several African countries, including Ghana, Angola, South Africa, Cameroon, and Nigeria. This marks a significant milestone in enhancing regional fuel supply and reducing dependency on external sources.
According to The Punch, Billy Gillis-Harry, National President of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN), confirmed a partnership agreement with Claridge Petroleum Company Ltd, Oasis Petrochemical Products Limited, and Afrintech.
This collaboration aims to ensure Nigerians have access to affordable fuel, further strengthening the refinery’s role in addressing local and regional energy needs.
“The deal is that we have requested for them to not import for us but to set up a refinery in Nigeria and they have agreed to that. So within the period that the process will be, they can be importing only diesel for us and maybe base oil; but PMS, we must have to do that locally,” Gillis-Harry told The Punch
This new arrangement effectively nullifies the group’s earlier agreement on petroleum importation.
In November last year, PETROAN had announced plans to import and sell Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) at prices below those offered by the Dangote Refinery and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC).
However, Gillis-Harry revealed that the importation plan has been scrapped in favor of establishing a new refinery, aligning with the association’s commitment to boosting local production and ensuring affordable fuel for Nigerians.
Southampton’s Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana might be on the verge of a fresh start as the Saints negotiate with Genoa for a potential move, according to reports from Gazzetta dello Sport.
The 22-year-old joined Southampton in January 2023 for a club-record £22 million but has struggled to establish himself in the Premier League.
With just two starts in nine appearances this season and no goals or assists, Kamaldeen has found game time limited, and his frustrations have been evident, particularly after his early substitution in a heavy defeat to Tottenham.
Genoa, under the guidance of manager Patrick Vieira, sees Kamaldeen as an ideal addition to their squad.
Vieira has a track record of nurturing young attacking talents, including Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze, during his Crystal Palace tenure.
A loan deal appears to be the most likely outcome, giving Kamaldeen a chance to rediscover his form and confidence in Serie A.
Despite his struggles, Southampton’s new manager Ivan Juric has praised Kamaldeen’s work ethic and mentality, hinting at a potential future for him at St. Mary’s.
With Southampton languishing at the bottom of the Premier League table, creativity and flair are desperately needed, and the Ghanaian’s departure could leave a significant gap in an already struggling squad.

Social media users have continued to react differently to the latest look of Grammy Award-nominated artist Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake.
The ‘Terminator’ crooner debuted the new look in a post on his verified Instagram account on Sunday.
In the picture, the artist shows off his new facial tattoos, which include dollar signs and ‘Believe’ inscriptions, among others.
The new tattoos, however, have continued to generate reactions on social media, with many fans of the singer expressing dissatisfaction with the new look.
Reacting to the new look, popular X user @ItsShola tweeted, “As a big fan of Asake who has never seen any wrong in him since he blew up; I’d just say this new tattoos didn’t enter. They don’t look good on him.”
“He is losing his mind,” @Abdurazaq64 opined.
Another user, @it_Rutie, wrote, “Facial tattoo makes Asake look like a thief.”
“Face tattoos are not our culture. What’s happening to Asake fgs,” @effizzzyy tweeted.
@Guccistarboi wrote, “Those Asake tats are getting too much, he needs to slow down on em.”
@ejiro_joshua1 tweeted, “What’s with all the earrings on the ear? I hope he’s not been initiated into Illuminati.”
This comes a few weeks after the ‘Sungba’ hitmaker trended on X following the rumours of his fallout with his record label, YBNL, and its founder, Olamide.
The controversy began when Asake made dramatic changes to his Instagram profile. A check by Tribune Online confirmed that the crooner had removed YBNL from his Instagram bio and unfollowed everyone, including Olamide.
However, neither Asake nor Olamide has confirmed or denied his alleged exit from the record label as of the time of this report.

In a move aimed at protecting and preserving state and public lands for future generations, President John Mahama has issued an executive fiat to immediately cease all activities related to the sale, lease, or processing of transactions involving state and public lands.
This directive, communicated through a letter dated January 10, 2025, is a significant step toward promoting transparency and accountability in the management of state assets.
According to the letter, signed by Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama, Ph.D., the directive is intended to facilitate a comprehensive review of the current framework governing the management of state and public lands.
The letter instructs the Executive Secretary of the Lands Commission to submit a detailed report of all recent and ongoing transactions concerning state and public lands within 14 days.
This move is not entirely unexpected, given Ghana’s history of struggles with corruption and mismanagement of state assets.
In recent years, the country has made significant strides in promoting good governance and transparency, including the establishment of the Office of the Special Prosecutor to investigate corruption cases.
The country’s commitment to transparency and accountability has also been recognized internationally.

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Dr. Bawumia’s running partner in the NPP, also known as NAPO, has expressed strong opposition to claims that the Ashanti Region had low voter turnout in recent elections.
NAPO, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Vice-Presidential candidate for the 2024 elections, stressed that such assertions are not only foolish but also disrespectful to the Ashanti Region’s electorate.
In a recent interview, NAPO noted, “I usually feel like ridiculing anyone who claims Ashanti Region did not vote. Over 2 million people did not vote for us, so why would you claim we lost votes in the Ashanti region?”
He emphasized that the Ashanti Region provided a sizable amount of votes for the NPP, considerably contributing to the party’s overall success.
NAPO went on to say that now is the time for the party to focus on understanding the broader reasons that influenced voter turnout and dealing with them constructively.
Former Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Alfred Tuah-Yeboah, has clarified the controversy surrounding the granting of a presidential pardon by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during the final days of his administration.
According to him, although the process for pardoning the 12 individuals was initiated, no pardon was granted as widely reported following the leak of a document issued by the Office of the President to the Council of State.
In an interview on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme, Tuah-Yeboah explained that the document in question was intended for the Council of State’s advice regarding the individuals the president wished to pardon.
He noted that members of the Council of State objected to granting pardons to all the individuals listed in the document.
“These individuals submitted petitions. Those petitions were vetted, and then, because the president couldn’t sit at the Jubilee House on his own to pardon people, he submitted a letter to the Council of State. The Council of State, on January 2, actually met the president as part of the consultation process. At the end of the consultation, it was decided that these individuals should not be pardoned.
“When news started circulating that the president had pardoned these individuals, the presidency issued a statement to clarify that no such decision had been taken by the president.
“The president consulted the Council of State, and at the end of the day, a decision was made not to pardon these individuals. Unfortunately, the letter forwarded to the Council of State was leaked. Instead of most people, including some media personnel, taking the time to review the letter, they concluded that the president had pardoned these individuals. However, that letter was clearly a request from the president to the Council of State as part of the consultation process. As of now, those individuals remain in prison,” he clarified.
The letter from the Office of the President indicated that President Akufo-Addo, in line with Article 72(1) of the 1992 Constitution, wished to exercise his prerogative of mercy for the 11 convicted individuals. Akufo-Addo, according to the letter, asked the Council to expeditiously consider the individuals listed to enable him to act accordingly.
Below are the individuals on the list:
1. Akwasi Alhassan
Convicted of murder and sentenced to death on March 19, 1993, Alhassan has spent 31 years in prison. His sentence has now been commuted to life imprisonment by presidential order.
2. Beatrice Ofori
Convicted of human trafficking on June 6, 2023, and sentenced to eight years with hard labour, the 64-year-old suffers from severe hypertension, leading to significant mobility challenges. She has spent much of her sentence in the prison infirmary.
3. Frank Obeng
Sentenced to 40 years for manslaughter, Obeng is currently serving his term in Nsawam Prison. His sentence has been reduced to 12 years following the presidential pardon.
4. Stephen Nyarko
Convicted of conspiracy to rob and robbery in December 2010 and sentenced to 30 years, Nyarko has served 22 years, including time spent on remand. His pardon recognises the time already served.
5. Osman Inusah
Convicted of conspiracy to commit robbery, Inusah was found not guilty of armed robbery. He faces mental health challenges, and his release is intended to allow proper care and management at home.
6. Joseph Nana Kwaku Boateng
Convicted of attempted export and possession of narcotic substances on May 28, 2019, and sentenced to 15 years, Boateng has served eight years, including five on remand. His pardon reflects his significant time served.
7. Emmanuel Adu Mensah
Convicted of possession of narcotics in April 2024 and sentenced to 15 years, Adu Mensah was serving his term at Nsawam Prison. His release recognises his circumstances and potential for reform.
8. William Ato Essien
Former CEO of the defunct Capital Bank, Essien was sentenced in October 2023 to 15 years’ imprisonment for financial crimes, including embezzling GH¢620 million in liquidity support from the Bank of Ghana. Despite agreeing to repay GH¢90 million as restitution to avoid incarceration, Essien failed to meet the terms. His pardon acknowledges the complexities of his case and its broader implications for the financial sector.
9. Kwabena Twum Ampofo
Convicted of possessing narcotics and sentenced to a 10-year prison term in April 2024. He is currently serving his term in Nsawam.
10. Alexander Nii Lante Lawson
Convicted of stealing and sentenced to a five-year prison term with hard labour, Lawson has served three years in prison, during which his health has deteriorated.
11. Philip Akpeena Assibit
Sentenced to 12 years in prison in 2018 for causing financial loss to the state due to his role in the National Youth Empowerment Programme. He has served six years in prison and is currently unwell, having pleaded for release due to his ill health.
Casually, isn’t it strange that there was a blanket rejection of the entire list? Isn’t it strange? This happened on the second. Yes, that was the consultation process.
Because the president had to consult the Council of State, the decision was reached that the requested pardons should not be granted. The requests were therefore denied.

Black Stars midfielder Salis Abdul Samed finally made his long-awaited debut for Sunderland in their 2-1 defeat to Stoke City on January 11, 2025.
The former RC Lens loanee was brought on in the second half of the game, marking his first appearance in a competitive fixture after 244 days.
Samed replaced Harrison Jones in the 80th minute with the score tied at 1-1. The match went into extra time, during which the Ghanaian made an error that led to Stoke City’s winning goal.
He finished the game with a 5.5 rating as Sunderland suffered a home defeat and were eliminated from the FA Cup in the third round.
Abdul Samed had been inactive and had not played a competitive match since representing Ghana in June 2024 in a thrilling 4-3 victory over the Central African Republic.
The Ghanaian secured a loan move to Sunderland during the summer transfer window after RC Lens put him up for transfer.
After his debut, Samed will aim to earn more minutes and regain his form to help Sunderland in their quest for promotion to the Premier League.
Multiple award-winning broadcast journalist, Serwaa Amihere, has recently addressed a concerning trend among some women in relationships.
She cautions against overwhelming potential partners with financial burdens, emphasizing the importance of self-reliance and mutual respect in building healthy relationships.
In her statement, Serwaa observed that some women, upon entering new relationships, tend to offload their financial responsibilities onto their partners. This includes expecting men to cover expenses such as food, rent, hair, and clothing. She likened this behaviour to that of homeless individuals seeking complete support, which can be off-putting to well-meaning men.
Serwaa, known for her stance on women’s independence, advises against this approach. She believes that while it’s natural for partners to support each other, relying entirely on a man for one’s upkeep can strain the relationship and deter genuine connections.
“If you meet a Man who Loves you this 2025, Don’t Use ‘I haven’t Eaten’ To chase him away. Try and eat in your House.” She wrote on IG.
She further emphasized that being independent as a woman not only fosters healthier relationships but also empowers women to make decisions that are in their best interest.
The running mate for Dr Bawumia of the NPP, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, has expressed strong disapproval towards assertions that the Ashanti Region exhibited low voter turnout in the recent elections.
Serving as the Vice-Presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 elections, NAPO emphasized that such statements are not only ridiculous but also disrespectful to the electorate of the Ashanti Region.
In a recent interview, NAPO stated, “I always feel like insulting anyone who says Ashanti Region didn’t vote. Over 2 million people didn’t vote for us so why will say we lost votes in the Ashanti region?”
He highlighted that the Ashanti Region delivered a substantial number of votes for the NPP, contributing significantly to the party’s overall performance.
NAPO further added that this is time for the party to be focusing on understanding the broader factors that influenced voter turnout and addressing them constructively.
President John Mahama has directed the Lands Commission to immediately cease all activities related to the sale, lease, or processing of transactions involving state and public lands.
This decision, communicated through a letter dated January 10, 2025, from the Office of the President, aims to safeguard public lands for the benefit of both current and future generations.
The directive, signed by Dr. Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, instructed the Lands Commission to halt all ongoing transactions concerning state lands.
“This directive has been issued to protect and preserve state and public lands for the collective benefit of the citizenry and future generations. Therefore, all ongoing and pending transactions must be halted without delay to facilitate a comprehensive review of the current framework governing the management of such lands,” the statement read.
Additionally, the directive requested that the Lands Commission submit a detailed report of all recent and ongoing transactions related to State and Public Lands to the Office of the President within 14 days of the communication.
Crossdresser, Bobrisky, has appealed to singer, BurnaBoy, to effect the release of singer Speed Darlington.
Speed Darlington has been in police custody since November 27 after he was arrested for jumping bail in an ongoing investigation into a petition filed against him by his colleague, Burna Boy.
President John Dramani Mahama has hinted at the possibility of relocating the National Cathedral of Ghana.
The President shared this while addressing the gathering at the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service, held as part of his inauguration at the auditorium of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), on Sunday, January 12, 2025.
He stated that the Christian community in Ghana would reconsider the project, including aspects such as its location and cost.
“On the future of the project — the Cathedral — I believe that all of us as Christians must forge a consensus on how to achieve such a project without recourse to public funds. This project must be realized at a reasonable cost.
“I believe that we can arrive at a more reasonable figure for achieving such a project, and together, we can raise the funding for it. Such reconsideration of the project might even include changing the current site that was chosen for it. I leave the rest to any future consultations we will have as the body of Christ,” he said.
The President also announced that his government would soon initiate an investigation into the construction of the cathedral, as directed by the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).
He emphasized that the amount of money spent on the project by the previous government was questionable and warranted scrutiny.
“The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice directed the government to audit the project and investigate any misuse of public funds. The government is obligated to comply with this directive and will soon commence such an investigation into the project,” Mahama said.
“In the current circumstances Ghana is facing, it makes no sense to pursue such a project at a staggering cost of $400 million. I am informed that the National Ecumenical Centre in Abuja, which serves all Christian faiths in Nigeria, was built at a cost of $30 million,” he noted.

NPP presidential candidate exchanging greetings with some party leaders
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) needs a bold, decisive, and firm leader, says the Belgium secretary.
In a statement, the secretary emphasized that the party requires a new face and new leadership, as those who have been in charge for the past 16 years must pave the way for fresh leadership.
The secretary criticized the idea of a “YES SIR, MASSA” leader who cannot criticize their own boss when necessary. Instead, the party needs a leader who is outspoken, firm, patriotic, and genuinely concerned about the welfare of Ghanaians.
The statement also highlighted the party’s poor performance in the recent election, particularly in the northern, Zongo, and Muslim communities.
The secretary questioned the notion of “it’s time for Dombo” in light of this election’s results.
The NPP Belgium Secretary emphasized that the party must restructure and focus on the grassroots and floating voters. This requires a leader who can connect with the people and inspire confidence in the party’s vision.
Read Full Text of the concerns raised by the Belgium secretary shared with this Portal:
New Face
New Leadership
The party needs new leadership and a new face
Those who have been in charge for the past 16 years must pave the way for new leadership. We need a bold, decisive, and firm leader. We are not ready for a “YES SIR, MASSA” leader who cannot criticise his own boss when necessary. One who smiles always but has pain and anguish within cannot lead NPP anymore.
The NORTHERN votes were promised…. we got zero
ZONGO votes…we got zero
MUSLIM votes…we got zero
The data have been slashed in our faces, so where lies “it’s time for DOMBO”
Our forefathers were bold, fearless, and decisive, so we need bold and firm leadership. A leader who wants to please everyone and is also not decisive cannot lead us.
In opposition, the party reverts back to the Chairman as the leader of the party constitutionally, so no one is the leader of the party other than the party’s Chairman.
Let us make it known to those who think the party is on standby waiting for their preferred candidate are dreaming in their caskets.
They have already employed their mentally retarded babies with sharp teeth who can be manipulated to push their agenda through. Left to soberness and academic ideas of the personality, Mahama wouldn’t have come near the seat at all.
Ghana is ready for an outspoken, firm, patriotic and “nukr3kafuo” president.
The party needs to sit back and restructure, think about the grassroots and floating voters…” the people’s people” who can win the seat for us.

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has called on first-time Members of Parliament (MPs) to actively seek mentorship and collaboration with seasoned colleagues to deepen their understanding of Parliamentary operations.
Speaker Bagbin made this appeal during an orientation session organised on Saturday, January 11, for the newly elected MPs.
The Speaker, a seasoned legislator himself, emphasised the critical role that mentorship plays in navigating the often complex and demanding nature of Parliamentary work.
He noted that the early days in Parliament can be daunting, particularly for those unfamiliar with the procedural nuances and the weight of responsibilities that come with representing their constituents.
The Speaker underscored the importance of first-time MPs quickly acquainting themselves with the rules, traditions, and expectations of the House.
He pointed out that effective collaboration with experienced members could significantly shorten the learning curve and better equip them to make meaningful contributions during debates on the floor of Parliament and in committee meetings.
Beyond the technical aspects of Parliamentary procedures, Speaker Bagbin also stressed the need for new MPs to uphold the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and moral uprightness.
He reminded them that public office is a position of trust and that their conduct, both within and outside Parliament, would reflect on the institution and their constituents.
“As we grapple with the complexities of Parliament, I encourage you to network with your colleagues, share ideas and solicit guidance from experienced members of this House to enable you to gain a deeper understanding of the intricacies of Parliamentary business. This will help equip and inform you to be able to contribute meaningfully to debates on the floor and at committee meetings of the House.
“Also, keep uppermost in mind that because of the tremendous amount of responsibility, you will be expected to uphold the highest standards of honesty, integrity and moral uprightness to sustain and enhance the image of parliament and also the trust and confidence of your constituents and citizens in general.”

Nana Attobrah Quaicoe is the Director-General of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB)
A leaked document from the Lands Commission has revealed that Nana Attobrah Quaicoe, the Director-General of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), acquired prime state land in the Cantonments area for just over GH¢160,000.
The document, which included details of the NIB boss, including his picture, shows that the land he acquired is designated as Plot No. 8 and spans an area of approximately 0.24 acres.
The land is located within the Giffard Road Layout Extension Area at Cantonments, Accra, under the jurisdiction of the La Dade Kotopon Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region.
The document names the President of the Republic as the lessor and Nana Attobrah Quaicoe as the lessee.
“In consideration of the sum of One Hundred and Sixty Thousand, Seven Hundred and Fifteen Cedis (GH¢160,715.00) paid by the Lessee to the Lessor as premium (the receipt of which payment the Lessor hereby acknowledges) and in further consideration of the payment of the annual ground rent herein stated and the observance and performance of the covenants, stipulations, and conditions herein contained, the Lessor hereby leases to the Lessee all that piece or parcel of land known as Plot No. 8 measuring an approximate area of 0.24 acres situated within the Giffard Road Layout Extension Area-Accra at Cantonments-Accra in the La Dade Kotopon Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region of the Republic of Ghana, TO HAVE and TO HOLD same unto and to the use of the Lessee for a term of Ninety-Nine (99) years with effect from the 1st day of January, 2021, yielding and paying therefore unto the Lessor an annual ground rent of Six Thousand, Seven Hundred and Twenty Cedis (GH¢6,720.00) payable yearly in advance on or before the 1st day of January in every year, the payment for the period from the 1st day of January, 2021, to the 31st day of December, 2021, having been made on or before the execution of this lease. This said amount shall be subject to revision by the Lessor every fifth (5th) year of the term hereby granted,” part of the document reads, which was listed by one Alex Quaynor.
It is worth noting that land in prime areas of Accra, including the Cantonments area, is generally priced in the millions of Ghana cedis or US dollars.
This development comes after the NIB boss threatened to take legal action against renowned legal practitioner Martin Kpebu, following claims that Kpebu had voluntarily opted to return state land he acquired around Cantonments to the state.
During an interview on TV3 on Saturday, January 11, 2024, Kpebu revealed that Attobrah Quaicoe decided to return the land to the state after concerns were raised by the head of the ORAL preparatory committee, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
Kpebu explained that this decision by the NIB boss prevented him from being investigated or potentially prosecuted by the ORAL committee.
“Our role is preparatory, so we are not directly involved in the actual recovery of assets; that will be addressed in the next phase. However, there are individuals who have expressed willingness to return assets,” Kpebu stated.
“The head of the National Intelligence Bureau, formerly the BNI, reached out to Okudzeto due to the advocacy surrounding the land issue and stated that he would return the land and withdraw his claim. He requested to be excluded from further involvement,” he added.
Kpebu further mentioned, “Yesterday, we visited the site where the land is located. The NIB boss, Attobrah, confirmed his decision to relinquish the land. I am somewhat acquainted with Attobrah on a personal level.”
However, Attobrah Quaicoe, through his lawyers, denied that he had willingly returned the state land.
He stated that Kpebu’s claim, made on TV3, was false and defamatory.
The lawyers, led by Saviour Quarcoo Kudze, called for a retraction and an apology from Kpebu, threatening legal action should he fail to retract his “utterly false and defamatory statements.”
“We urge the public to disregard these false statements that are calculated to injure our client’s reputation,” part of the statement read.

Four names have emerged strongly as possible options by new President John Mahama to man the top-most positions in the Bank of Ghana, including the Governor, Deputies and various Board roles, MyNewsGh.com has been told.

Cord lace ensembles are a closet mainstay for good reason: they are classic, elegant, and easy to wear. Wearing an iro and buba, a gown, or even just a skirt and shirt may be a fun way to step up your style game and turn heads. Let’s have a look at some amazing ways to style cord lace clothing with elegance and sophistication.
The Radiance of Iro and Buba; A stylish and classic combination is iro and buba set in cord lace, which can be easily customized. Pick a bold shade that brings out the best in your features and works well with your skin tone.
To amp up the glitz, wear it with a fashionable gele (headwrap) and bold jewelry. Add a touch of understated elegance to your look by finishing off your outfit with a pair of elegant shoes.
A Glamorous Gown; Dresses with cord lace are ideal for formal events because of the air of refined sophistication they provide. Find a dress that hugs your curves like a glove and has elaborate lace accents to make you seem stunning. For a timeless yet chic look, think about a mermaid or A-line shape. To keep the lace from taking center stage, accessorize with understated pieces like as a clutch bag and delicate earrings.
Blouse and Skirt Paradise; Wearing a cable lace skirt with a cord lace blouse is a surefire way to turn heads. To give your ensemble more dimension, try mixing and matching materials and textures. Choose a pencil skirt and lace blouse for an elegant work look, or go for a flowy skirt and lace top for a fun, flirty style. Try out bright hues or stay with neutrals for more variety. Depending on the event, finish off your outfit with a pair of stylish flats or heels.
Accessory Statements; To make your cable lace ensemble stand out, accessories are key. To take your outfit to the next level, accessorize with striking necklaces, cuff bracelets, or belts with embellishments. Pick for jewelry and other accessories that bring out the lace’s delicate elements without drawing too much attention to them. Accessorizing with a chic clutch or purse is another great way to make a fashion statement without sacrificing functionality.
In a remarkable show of bravery, a 59-year-old driver, Isaac Ayim, narrowly escaped death after being shot by armed robbers on the Gomoa Akoti-Kwanyako highway in the Central Region.
Despite sustaining gunshot wounds to the head, Ayim managed to drive himself and his assistant to the nearest police checkpoint for help.
The incident occurred during the early hours of Saturday, January 11, when Ayim, driving a Kia truck with his mate, Frimpong Kojo, encountered a group of five armed robbers on the highway.
The robbers reportedly used torchlights to signal the vehicle to stop before opening fire.
Several bullets penetrated the windscreen, with some striking Ayim’s head. Despite the injury and with blood dripping down his face, Ayim maintained his composure and continued driving, eventually reaching a police checkpoint several meters away from the attack site.
Recounting the harrowing experience to 3News, Ayim said in Twi: “We were told robbers were on the road, so we waited at Akraman before proceeding. When we finally drove off, someone flashed a light at us, but I didn’t stop, fearing it was the robbers. They started shooting, and though I was hit, I kept driving until we reached the police station.“
Ayim was initially taken to the Gomoa Potsin Polyclinic for treatment but was later transferred to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba, where he is currently receiving further medical care.
Some of the gunshots hit the windscreen of Ayim’s Kia truck. The robbery has sparked renewed concerns among residents and commuters who use the Gomoa Akoti-Kwanyako highway, a stretch that has reportedly seen several similar attacks in recent months.
Many commercial drivers and passengers have expressed fears over the rising trend of highway robberies and are calling on authorities to bolster security measures in the area.
The Central Region has seen a rise in robbery cases in recent years, particularly on highways linking major towns.

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, has urged members of the 9th parliament to rise above partisan politics and work towards advancing the common good for all citizens.
Speaking at the induction and orientation programme for newly elected MPs, Mr. Bagbin emphasised the urgent need for MPs to prioritise Ghana above all else.
“It is critical to promote equality and inclusivity rather than engage in excessive partisanship. While extreme partisanship may grant you temporary favour, it can also lead to irrelevance when the political landscape shifts,” he stated.
Mr. Bagbin stressed that if MPs wish to sustain their careers in politics, they must commit to serving the people and the nation first and foremost.
“As you embark on this journey, remember the tremendous responsibility that comes with your role. Upholding the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and moral rectitude is essential to maintain the trust and confidence of our citizens,” he remarked.
He reiterated the need for MPs to advocate for the goodwill of their constituents, stating, “People are defending your position and supporting you in their communities as you work towards a better future. It is vital to recognize that your actions today will shape your legacy tomorrow.”
“I urge you to stay focused on addressing the challenges facing our nation. Our priority must be the nation itself—not party politics. This is of utmost importance,” he concluded.
Furthermore, Mr. Bagbin urged MPs to network with their fellow members, share ideas, and seek guidance from the more experienced members of the House.
Such engagement, he noted, will enable them to gain a deeper understanding of the intricacies of parliamentary business and equip them to contribute meaningfully to debates on the floor and in committee meetings.
Popular Ghanaian fashion stylist, Charlie Dior has named Ghanaian musician Praye TiaTia and his wife, Selly Galley, as his power couple.
He compared Praye Tiatia and Selly Gally’s marriage to that of Sulley Muntari and Menaye Donkor, stating that the former is more relatable.
“My power couple would be Selly Galley and Praye Tiatia. I follow them on Instagram, and they seem more relatable than Sulley Muntari and Menaye,” he told GhOne TV.
“Because they (Praye and Selly Galley) make it more relatable. I follow them on Instagram, and they share their struggles with us. When she was expecting, she shared her journey, which feels more genuine,” he shared.
He expressed that the marriage of former Black Stars midfielder, Sulley Ali Muntari, and model Menaye Donkor does not appear to be a genuine union.
Dior based his assertion on the couple’s decision to keep their marriage out of the spotlight, refusing to share any insights with the public.
The fashion influencer mentioned that this lack of transparency makes Sulley and Menaye’s union seem perfect, which he believes is not the case.
“We hear street talk about them. The fact that they don’t talk about it or put it out there, for me, that’s not genuine. They are portraying everything as perfect at home, which I don’t think is true”.
Charlie argued that celebrity couples should be more public due to their status in society.
“We know there’s pressure on celebrity marriages from the public and family. But if you have that celebrity status, you owe us something. You owe us some explanation in some way.”
Sulley Muntari and his wife Menaye have been together since 2010 and have two children.
The couple has kept their marriage fairly private, with their last public appearance dating back to 2021.
President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to collaborate with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Ghana to restore the Pomadze Poultry Farm near Winneba in the Central Region to its former glory.
Speaking at the 92nd National Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Gomoa Pomadze, President Mahama emphasized the significance of reviving the once-thriving state-owned facility.
The poultry farm, a key contributor to Ghana’s economy, was closed in the 1980s due to non-performance and later sold to a private investor in 2002.
President Mahama highlighted the importance of leveraging the partnership to not only restore the farm but also position the Ahmadiyya Mission as a leading supplier of poultry in Ghana.
“I promised last year that if elected President, I would work with your Muslim mission to restore the Pomadze poultry farm back to its days of glory,” he stated.
“This farm will become an example, encouraging other faith-based organizations to engage in income-generating projects that benefit their missions and create jobs for their members,” he added.
He further disclosed ongoing steps to actualize the project in collaboration with the Ahmadiyya leadership, affirming his commitment to fostering initiatives that drive economic growth and community development.
Djimon Hounsou is peeling back the curtain on the complexities of navigating Hollywood as a person of color. The 60-year-old actor, who hails from Benin in West Africa and has made his mark in films like Blood Diamond and Gladiator, recently shared his journey on CNN’s African Voices Changemakers. Despite more than two decades in the industry and a couple of Oscar nods under his belt, Hounsou candidly spoke about the ongoing financial struggles he faces.
“I’m still fighting to make a living,” Hounsou admitted. “After over two decades in the industry, with major roles in blockbuster hits and two Oscar nominations, I’m still underpaid. It’s a constant battle.”
Reflecting on his breakout role as Cinqué in Spielberg’s Amistad, Hounsou feels he was overlooked by the Academy Awards, even though he secured a Golden Globe nomination for the same role.
“I was recognized by the Golden Globes, but the Oscars ignored me. They saw me as someone who had just arrived from the streets, not worthy of their recognition,” he said. “Despite delivering a powerful performance, I wasn’t deemed an actor worthy of respect.”
Hounsou emphasized that the industry still has a long way to go regarding diversity. “This concept of diversity is still in its infancy. Systemic racism isn’t going to disappear overnight,” he remarked.
This isn’t the first time Hounsou has highlighted his struggle for fair pay in Hollywood. In a 2023 interview with The Guardian, he revealed, “I have yet to encounter a film that paid me fairly. I constantly have to justify why I deserve to be paid appropriately. They always lowball me, saying, ‘We have limited funds, but we love you and believe you’ll bring so much to the role.’”
He echoed the sentiments of fellow actor Viola Davis, who has also spoken out about wage inequality. “Viola Davis said it well. Despite winning an Oscar, an Emmy, and a Tony, she still battles for fair pay,” Hounsou noted.
Hounsou’s time in Hollywood, particularly his experience working with Spielberg on Amistad, inspired him to launch the Djimon Hounsou Foundation. This organization aims to bridge the gap between the African diaspora and their ancestral homeland, addressing the lingering scars of slavery.
“My work in acting opened my eyes,” he shared on African Voices Changemakers. “Researching for Amistad made me deeply aware of the disconnect Afro-descendants feel from their roots and culture. Without knowing where you come from, you can’t truly understand who you are.”
Driven by a sense of duty to his heritage, Hounsou founded his organization to foster connections. “One of the key missions of the foundation is ‘Africa reconnect.’ It’s about reinforcing the identity and self-awareness of African descendants by reconnecting them with their history and homeland,” he explained.
The Young Elephants Study Group, a youth-focused faction within Ghana’s New Patriotic Party (NPP), has announced an independent investigation into the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections, aiming to complement ongoing efforts by the party’s official committee.
In a press release dated 11 January 2025, the group outlined its commitment to examining key factors that led to the NPP’s electoral loss.
The investigation will explore areas such as voter apathy among Generation Z, non-participation of polling station executives, the influence of government policies on voter behavior, low voter turnout, and potential rifts between the government and the party.
“While the party has set up a committee to assess the loss, we believe it is critical to have varying perspectives for the greater good of the NPP,” the group stated.
“Our findings look to only complement the party’s efforts and provide broader insights to help rebuild the NPP stronger and more united.”
The youth-led initiative, which operates independently, emphasized the importance of understanding the specific challenges faced by younger voters, particularly those of Generation Z, many of whom rejected the party at the polls.
Additionally, the study will assess the reasons behind the disengagement of grassroots executives, whose participation has historically been vital for the party’s electoral success.
Internal challenges
This move comes amid growing internal scrutiny within the NPP, following the historic election that saw both leading presidential candidates — Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP and John Mahama of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) — hail from Ghana’s northern regions.
Despite the significance of this regional dynamic, the NPP struggled to secure a decisive victory.
Furthermore, there has been criticism over the government’s inability to communicate its policy successes effectively, which some argue alienated sections of the electorate.
The NPP’s official committee tasked with assessing the defeat is expected to focus on overarching party strategies, campaign messaging, and the impact of economic challenges on voter sentiment.
The Young Elephants’ study promises a grassroots perspective, providing insights into the party’s future electoral strategies.
Operations Manager of Electrochem Ghana Limited, Nene Odeopeor, has reported that no arrests have been made following an attack by armed thugs, allegedly led by a known activist of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), at the company’s salt warehouse in Ada.
The incident resulted in significant financial loss and disruptions to its operations.
Speaking to journalists after assessing the damage caused by the attackers at the salt mines, Mr. Odeopeor stated that despite having evidence available to both the company and the police identifying individuals involved in the vandalism, no arrests have been made.
“We have CCTV footage showing these individuals vandalizing our property, stealing valuable materials, and assaulting our staff on-site. Although we had armed security present, we chose not to retaliate during the attack,” he explained.
During the tour, thugs were observed stealing large quantities of harvested salt while company management while the security looked on.
Speaking off-camera, Ada Police Commander Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Joseph Atsu Dzineku stated that the police would employ de-escalation techniques to manage the situation and prevent casualties related to the Electrochem vandalism.
He assured that plans are underway to engage the identified thugs and deter further invasions of Electrochem Ghana Limited’s property.
Mr. Odeopeor detailed that surveillance footage from the company’s CCTV cameras revealed intruders entering the warehouse and making away with various valuable equipment and supplies.
Among the stolen items were five jungle motorbikes, car tires, oil, water tanks, and various pumps. The attackers also vandalized five company trucks, smashed windows, and damaged the fuel pumping station.
The situation was further aggravated at the company’s residential quarters, where rooms were ransacked.
Mr. Odeopeor lamented that fridges, cooking utensils, gas cylinders, and even mattresses were taken. “Everything has been taken away,” he said.
In addition to the thefts, a long boom machine used for fetching salt was also damaged during the incident, raising further concerns about the company’s operations.
Mr. Odeopeor expressed relief that the police arrived on the scene in time to intervene. “It is by the grace of God that the police came,” he stated.
However, he noted that much of the property had already been stolen by the time law enforcement arrived, adding that even though they had internal security measures in place, the sheer number of intruders overwhelmed them.
President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to investigate the National Cathedral Project, an initiative spearheaded by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as a national Christian worship centre and symbol of Ghana’s religious heritage.
The project has been plagued by allegations of corruption and financial mismanagement, raising concerns about its execution and funding.
Speaking at a Christian National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), President Mahama questioned the financial prudence of the project, especially given Ghana’s current economic hardships.
“On the vexed issue of the National Cathedral, CHRAJ directed the government to audit the project and investigate any misuse of public funds. We will soon activate an investigation into the project,” he stated.
He further criticized the cost of the initiative, saying, “In the current circumstances that Ghana is going through, it makes no sense to achieve such a project at a whopping sum of $400 million. I am informed that the National Ecumenical Centre in Abuja, which is used by the Christian faith in Nigeria, was built at the cost of $30 million.”
The announcement signals the government’s intent to address concerns about transparency and accountability surrounding the project.

A 13-year-old girl narrowly escaped a suspected ritual killing in the Akuapem South Municipality of the Eastern Region.
According to multiple media reports, the teenager was abducted by unidentified men on Friday, January 10, 2025, at around 8:00 PM.
The reports reveal that the girl managed to escape from a concealed location where she was being held.
Her escape was made possible when a good Samaritan intervened by shouting warnings, prompting the abductors to flee as they were allegedly preparing to harm her.
Frank Amankwah, the Assembly Member for the Kitase Electoral Area, attributed the increasing cases of kidnapping in the area to non-functional streetlights.
“I have made several complaints about these issues. From Ayi Mensah to Peduase Lodge, the streetlights in these areas are all not working. People from Ashaiman, Madina, Nungua, and nearby towns come here, making it difficult to trace such incidents when they occur,” he stated.
He further appealed for improved security measures in the area.
“It is disheartening how lax security is around Peduase Lodge. I plead with the IGP and all security agencies to come to our aid,” he urged.
RETIRED MUSICIAN Mzbel, known in real life as Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah, has faced backlash for questioning the usefulness of the Ghana Card, which was introduced by the Nana Addo-Bawumia administration.
Mzbel stated that the Ghana Card, introduced by the previous government, is ineffective, particularly after she misplaced her passport.
“I lost my passport this morning while shopping with my kids. I took my Ghana Card to the airport to see if it could help me board my flight, but it was rejected,” she explained.
She further recounted her experience at the airport, where an official advised her to obtain a travel document from the embassy. “The Ghana Card has no power or usefulness for people who find themselves in situations like mine,” she added.
The video posted by an NDC Blogger named Thosecalledcelebs who disagreed with Mzbel wrote, “Akua! If u think it’s not useful…throw it away oke. The last time I checked…every developed country has a passport and identity card. Never look down on the digitization part of Dr. Bawumia… that man is so enlightened and whatever he introduced to Ghana wasn’t a waste.
Let’s assume is just an ordinary identity card don’t you feel okay with it than carrying your passport everywhere? Oh gyea saaa…card no de3…3y3 flexi ankasa. Don’t do that… you can share your experience but dnt downplay it my dear” (SIC).
In response to Mzbel, Ruby Noelle Arthur commented, “I’m a naturalized US citizen. Since 2022, I’ve traveled to Ghana at least five times using my Ghana Card. I’ve boarded flights from Washington DC airports on Ethiopian Airlines, British Airways, TAP Portugal, and Delta United—all of which allowed me to board without a Ghana passport. I don’t even have one. The Ghana Card has saved me hundreds of dollars in visa fees. I can’t understand what this woman is talking about.”
Abigail Kusi also weighed in, stating, “What made Mzbel think she could go on an international flight without a passport or at least a passport card? If you were issued a visa, how could that be verified without a passport? A state ID or national ID card is simply meant to identify you for certain services as a resident; it is not a travel document! Thank you, Dr. Bawumia, for introducing the Ghana Card—it is much needed, and Ghana is long overdue for it. He never claimed it was a substitute for your passport, Mzbel.”

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, has urged the newly elected members of parliament to work diligently to uphold the trust placed in them by their constituents in this 9th Parliament.
Speaking at the induction and orientation programme for MPs, Mr. Bagbin emphasised the importance of networking among MPs. He noted that sharing ideas and seeking guidance from experienced members of the House is essential to mobilising resources and support for their constituents.
“This engagement will enable you to gain a deeper understanding of the intricacies of parliamentary business. It will equip you to contribute meaningfully to debates on the floor and in committee meetings. More importantly, it will highlight opportunities that can enhance your ability to serve our nation,” he stated.
The Speaker further encouraged MPs to connect with civil society, the private sector, and the international community as they build their networks. He emphasised the need to actively seek out opportunities that can improve their capacity to deliver results, stressing that there is no room for failure.
“When you venture out, engage with others to mobilize resources that will help develop your experiences and skills. As you embark on this journey, remember the tremendous responsibility that comes with your role. You cannot afford to fail your constituents, considering the support they have given you,” he added.
Additionally, the Speaker advised members to prioritise Ghana above all else, highlighting the importance of advancing equality and inclusivity rather than excessive partisanship. “Extreme partisanship may grant you temporary favour, but it can also lead to irrelevance once the political landscape shifts. We have seen too many individuals cultivate their constituencies only to abandon them after their leaders leave office. If you find yourself among those who become sycophants or hypocrites, remember that your political survival should not depend solely on one leader,” he cautioned.
Minority Leader and MP for Effutu, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, also advised the newly elected members to uphold the standing orders of parliament, which play a crucial role in regulating the proceedings of the House.
“These standing orders provide you with a framework for conducting business, ensuring that debates, discussions, and decision-making processes are carried out in an orderly and efficient manner. Learning and understanding the standing orders allows you to make meaningful contributions in the house,” he said.
