Nigerian Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, and his wife, Chioma Rowland, held their white wedding in Miami, United States, on August 10, 2025.

The event, shared widely on social media under the hashtag #Chivido2025, was filled with love, luxury, and emotional moments.

One would recall that Davido and Chioma’s engagement ceremony took place in March 2023. Later that year, in October, the couple welcomed twins in the United States.

In 2024, their official traditional wedding ceremony took place in Lagos, Nigeria.

Fast forward to August 2025, here are some interesting highlights from their white wedding in Miami, Florida.

Davido paid tribute to late son with custom cufflinks

One of the most interesting moments came when Davido paid tribute to his late son, Ifeanyi.

On his white wedding day, he wore custom-made cufflinks with Ifeanyi’s picture engraved on them.

Davido shared a close-up photo of the cufflinks on his Instagram story.

Davido also surprised Chioma with a custom-made, factory-iced Richard Mille wristwatch worth $300,000. The timepiece was delivered by New York-based celebrity jeweler Benny Da Jeweler.

This isn’t the first time Chioma has received a Richard Mille. In 2023, Davido gifted her a watch from the same luxury brand for her birthday, along with high-end Birkin bags.

Davido unveiled a new tattoo of Chioma’s name on his body

Ahead of the white wedding, Davido revealed a new tattoo of Chioma’s name on his body.

The tattoo was spotted during their pre-wedding photoshoot, captured in a video by his logistics manager, Israel DMW.

Ghana’s economy stabilising but real reform still missing

0

Dr. Abudu Abdul-Ganiyu is with EM Advisory Dr. Abudu Abdul-Ganiyu is with EM Advisory

Ghana has made important progress in stabilising its economy, but without deeper structural reforms, recent gains may prove short-lived.

That’s the central warning from EM Advisory’s Mid-Year Review of the Ghanaian Economy, which urges the government to move beyond short-term fixes and address longstanding institutional weaknesses.

The August 2025 report commends the John Mahama administration for achieving rapid disinflation and showing signs of fiscal discipline, noting that “disciplined, targeted policymaking can yield macroeconomic gains even under challenging conditions.”

Project managers push 10-point plan to end politicisation of infrastructure

However, EM Advisory cautions that stabilisation is not the same as transformation.

Despite new policy initiatives, medium-term growth projections remain unchanged, while critical issues, from weak public sector delivery to rising debt risks, persist.

The firm outlines urgent priorities for the next six months: rebuilding the Sinking Fund to prepare for future shocks, enforcing tax and spending discipline, addressing cost-of-living pressures, and rethinking capital investments to prioritise high-impact, revenue-generating projects.

“The next crisis will come, the question is whether Ghana will be ready,” the report states. “Stabilisation has bought time, but time alone will not solve Ghana’s problems.”

Police Reveals How a Married Woman Lied to Her Husband Before Her Secret Lover Killed Her

0

As published by ghpage today Sunday August 10, 2025, a small town in the Ashanti Region is in shock after a married woman was tragically killed by her secret lover.

The police have now revealed details about how she lied to her husband before the deadly event.

The woman, identified as Abena Menis, was married and lived with her husband and children in Kumasi.

She told her family she was going to Accra for training at a hospital, but she was actually visiting a man she had been secretly seeing.

According to police reports, Abena had traveled to a town near Obuasi, where she met her lover.

Her husband, Kwame Menis, said he never suspected anything was wrong and believed her story about the training.

The police say the lover became jealous and angry when he found out Abena planned to leave him. In a violent moment, he attacked her with a knife, killing her instantly.

Neighbors said they heard shouting late at night but did not know what had happened until the police arrived. The lover fled the scene but was arrested a few hours later.

Kwame and the family are devastated by the loss.

“She never told me about this man,” he said. “I trusted her and thought she was honest.”

Local police officers have urged the public to be careful with secrets in relationships, warning that such lies can sometimes lead to tragedy. They also remind couples to communicate openly to avoid misunderstandings.

This case has brought attention to the dangers of hidden affairs and the violence that can follow jealousy.

Police continue to investigate and have assured the community that the suspect will face justice.

Both families are preparing for the funeral and asking for peace during this difficult time.

6 Die In Galamsey Pit

At least six people were confirmed dead following the collapse of a mining pit at Wassa Dunkwa in the Western Region.

The six illegal miners, also called ‘galamseyers’, were among 10 persons between the ages of 22 and 30, who were trapped in the pit at about 5pm last Tuesday.

One of the residents said, “Initially, the illegal miners were 10, but after the pit in which they were working caved in, four of them managed to come out.”

According to some eyewitnesses, it was too late when the news about the incident reached members of the community and the traditional leaders.

“So the next day, Wednesday, August 6, 2025, the traditional leaders and the youth organised themselves and with the help of some excavators, managed to retrieve the six dead bodies from the pit,” the eyewitnesses noted.

They indicated that the deceased persons included four men and two women.

They claimed that the four men were not from the community. However, the two women were from the area. One of the women had recently given birth to twins and was popularly called Atta Maame, the eyewitnesses disclosed.

They said all the bodies have since been buried.

In a statement, the Group expressed shock and sorrow over what it called a “chilling and devastating incident”, noting that the tragedy had sent waves of grief throughout its subsidiaries.

The entire country was thrown into mourning on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, when news broke of the fatal crash involving a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter.

The aircraft was carrying five government officials and three crew members when it went down in the Ashanti Region while en route to Obuasi for a national assignment related to the fight against illegal mining.

Those who perished in the crash include:

Govt Must Fight Galamsey To Honour Helicopter Crash Victims – Kwadwo Sheldon

0

Kwadwo Sheldon

GHANAIAN YOUTUBER, Kwadwo Sheldon, has called on government to intensify the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, following the death of eight individuals including two serving ministers and other prominent figures.

Kwadwo Sheldon, when analyzing the tragic incident on his show, lamented the lack of commitment to the fight against galamsey, which has subsequently claimed the lives of Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, and the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Alhaji Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.

Also among the deceased were National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong; Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna; former parliamentary candidate Mr. Samuel Aboagye, and three military personnel: Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

“Eight people died in the line of duty while serving the country. They were on their way to Obuasi for an event aimed at curbing the galamsey menace when the tragic incident occurred. Galamsey is destroying our water bodies and forests,” he stated.

“We can’t treat galamsey operators with kid gloves. Instead, we should fight galamsey aggressively to honour the memories of those who lost their lives. It’s a national emergency that requires urgent attention,” he added.

Kwadwo Sheldon added that, “the fact that the country organises events and initiatives to fight galamsey shows our failure as a country,” urging government as a matter of urgency to declare galamsey operators as terrorists and deal with them ruthlessly, given the damage to the environment.

The country was thrown into mourning on August 6, following the tragic crash of a Ghana Armed Forces helicopter at a forest near Adansi Brofoyedru in the Ashanti Region. The helicopter, identified as a Ghana Air Force Z9 aircraft, departed Accra at 9:12 a.m. en route to Obuasi, where President John Mahama was expected to launch a Community Mining Programme.

The Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Emelia Arthur, has described her collaboration with the late Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, on Ghana’s National Blue Economy Strategy as “a true meeting of minds.”

In an emotional tribute shared on X following the burial ceremony held at the Military Cemetery on Sunday, August 10, 2025, Emelia Arthur reflected on the profound impact of Dr Mohammed’s leadership and the unfinished work they had begun together to safeguard Ghana’s marine and coastal resources.

“When you took up the mantle of Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, you came with a quiet yet determined fire. I watched you in Cabinet, always prepared, always grounded in facts, yet never losing that rare quality of compassion in leadership. You led with both your head and your heart,” part of her post read.

“You taught us that environmental stewardship is not a luxury, but a duty we owe to generations to come. Our work together on Ghana’s National Blue Economy Strategy was a true meeting of minds. I will never forget that Monday morning when we received the draft national strategy from the committee,” she added.

Recalling their joint efforts, Emelia Arthur described receiving the draft strategy as a turning point in shaping a bold vision for Ghana’s oceans, coasts and river systems, driven by their shared belief that environmental protection and economic opportunity must go hand in hand.

She also highlighted their discussions on designing Nature-Based Solutions to combat ocean erosion through inter-sectoral collaboration.

“Our discussions began to shape ideas into a bold vision for our oceans, coasts and river systems, driven by our shared belief that environmental protection and economic opportunity must walk hand in hand,” her post stated.

Tragically, just days later, Dr Murtala Mohammed was among eight individuals who perished in a military helicopter crash near Adansi Sikaman in the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

He and the Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, were laid to rest on Sunday, August 11, 2025.

A state funeral will be held for the remaining victims of the crash on Friday, August 15, 2025, at Black Star Square in Accra.

Herdsman drowns rescuing goat as pupils die in separate Lake Victoria tragedy

Ssezibwa Region Police Spokesperson, Ms Hellen Butoto Ssezibwa Region Police Spokesperson, Ms Hellen Butoto

A 22-year-old herdsman drowned in a sugar factory water reservoir in eastern Uganda on Sunday while attempting to rescue two goats, police said.

The incident occurred at the Ssezibwa Sugar Factory reservoir in Bunyagira Village, Bbibo Parish, Kawolo Division, Lugazi Municipality, Buikwe District, at about 2:30 pm, according to police.

The victim, identified as Peter Kayega, had been grazing goats with a friend known only as Ssemakula when they realised two animals were missing.

“Upon searching, they found the goats had fallen into the reservoir and the deceased dived into the water to rescue them,” said Ssezibwa police spokesperson Hellen Butoto.

Kayega managed to save one goat, but struggled while attempting to rescue the second.

“He called for help, and his friend rushed to assist, but it was too late. He sank,” Butoto said.

Ssemakula immediately informed Kayega’s employer, Reagan Mbowa, who reported the incident to Lugazi police.

Officers retrieved the body and took it to Kawolo General Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Butoto urged communities near factories to take safety precautions and warned residents against accessing such facilities without protective measures.

She also called on factory owners to fence off hazardous areas to prevent similar accidents.

In a separate incident the same day, two primary school pupils drowned in Lake Victoria at Namatu landing site in Budaya sub-county, Bugiri District, local officials said.

The victims, pupils of Namatu Primary School, had gone to bathe on the lakeshore when they were overpowered by the water, according to the local council chairperson, Kasozi M. Nduba.

“I have always been talking to parents about not letting children go to the lake without an elder to oversee their activities,” Nduba said, adding: “But they have not taken it seriously.”

The bodies were recovered and handed over to relatives for burial.

Funny Face Tearful Reunion Sparks National Conversation on Forgiveness

0

It was a heartwarming yet controversial moment on social media Sunday, August 10, 2025, when Ghanaian comedian Benson Nana Yaw Oduro Boateng, popularly known as Funny Face, shared a rare family photo with his wife, Vanessa, and their three children.

The image, posted on his official Facebook page, captured the couple standing beside their children, who were seated on the bonnet of his car. The caption was simple but deeply telling: “TO GOD BE THE GLORY.”

This public display of unity marks a significant turnaround in a relationship that had been marred by years of conflict. Funny Face, famed for his role in TV3 Ghana’s sitcom Chorkor Trotro and known as SwagOn-Papa, went through a very public and bitter separation from Vanessa. During their split, he traded insults with Vanessa’s family and lashed out at others who got involved in their feud.

The reconciliation, sources say, was facilitated by Kumawood actor Kwaku Manu, who played a key role in bringing the couple back together. While some Ghanaians hailed the reunion as a beautiful step towards healing, others were quick to caution Funny Face about the risks of giving the relationship another chance.

One social media user warned:

“Don’t come and cry again… we have already advised you to be careful after giving her the second chance. You’ve got a good heart to accept a cheating wife.”

Another reminded him of his past statements:

“Is he not the one who told us the kids are not for him through the DNA? You go back to this relationship… are you normal?”

Others, however, chose a more supportive tone:

“Good luck boss. But just be a little careful this time around. Forget everybody and focus more on getting your career back on track. God bless the hand and the house that influenced this.”

Some shared personal reflections, noting that only those who had faced similar marital challenges could fully appreciate the magnitude of the reunion:

“If you’ve never faced marital issues, you will spill rubbish… but if you have, you’ll be happy for such a great reunion. Much respect to the initiator, Funny Face, Vanessa, and the kids.”

Timelessly Elegant Owambe Looks for Chic African Ladies

0

Owambe, a popular term for celebratory parties and events in Nigeria, is synonymous with vibrant, fashionable, and luxurious dressing. The term has become widely embraced across Africa, with women constantly seeking the latest trends to make a statement at these social gatherings. For the stylish African lady, finding the perfect balance between elegance, class, and cultural authenticity is essential when choosing an Owambe outfit.

The key to achieving an elegant look for an Owambe celebration lies in the choice of fabric, cut, and embellishments. Traditional fabrics like Ankara, Aso Ebi, and lace remain favorites, as they provide a rich texture and vivid color that makes a bold statement. For an upscale look, luxe fabrics such as silk, satin, and velvet can elevate the ensemble, giving it a sophisticated feel.

One of the most popular and classy Owambe styles is the “Aso Ebi” ensemble, where family and friends wear coordinated colors or patterns to celebrate a particular event. The outfits can be designed into gowns, peplum dresses, or long skirts with beautifully embellished tops. Intricate beading, sequins, and embroidery often grace the fabric to add depth and glamour to the look.

Another stunning Owambe style is the “Iro and Buba,” a two-piece traditional outfit that is both modest and stylish. The Iro is a wrapped skirt, while the Buba is a loose-fitting blouse. This combination, often paired with a gele (headwrap), exudes grace and regal flair. For an added touch of sophistication, some women opt for dramatic sleeves, beaded or lace detailing, or layered designs.

In addition to the outfits, accessories play a pivotal role in achieving a polished and elegant look. Statement jewelry, including chunky necklaces, bracelets, and earrings, paired with a well-styled gele, adds an extra level of refinement to the ensemble.

Ultimately, Owambe dressing is a perfect opportunity for stylish African ladies to showcase their creativity, individuality, and cultural heritage while embracing elegance and class at every event.

Ghana Marks AU Decentralisation and Local Development Day

0

Accra, Aug. 11, GNA – Ghana has joined other African nations to mark this year’s African Union (AU) Decentralisation and Local Development Day, with a call for inclusive governance and equitable development for all communities.

This year’s commemoration is on the theme: “Building Resilient Communities through Inclusive Decentralisation and Equitable Development,” a statement issued by the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCC),  and shared with the Ghana News Agency, said Monday.

The statement signed by Dr Gameli Kewuribe Hoedoafia, Executive Secretary, urged government agencies, development partners, civil society organisations, traditional authorities, and citizens to work together towards building resilient, inclusive, and prosperous Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs).

The 2025 AU Decentralisation and Local Development Day provides a platform for African countries to share innovations and address structural inequalities, in line with the AU’s Agenda 2063 vision for equitable and just societies.

The Day serves as a reminder of the critical role decentralisation plays in promoting people-centred local governance.

The statement said the commemoration acknowledged the efforts of local communities in strengthening national unity.

Over the past three decades, the IMCC said, Ghana’s decentralisation programme had brought governance closer to citizens, improving public services and enabling communities to have a stronger voice in development decisions.

The Committee, however, noted that more work was needed to ensure equal opportunities across the country.

“…we must be honest: our journey is far from complete. Too many communities still wait for the same opportunities others enjoy. Too many voices remain unheard,” the IMCC said.

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to deepening decentralisation, emphasising that local government remained central to national transformation.

The IMCC stated the forthcoming National Decentralisation Policy and Strategy (NDPS) 2026–2030 would enhance citizen participation, strengthen local institutions, and promote partnerships to deliver tangible improvements in people’s lives.

The IMCC extended its appreciation to decentralised institutions, local authorities, and community leaders nationwide, urging unity of purpose in shaping Ghana’s future through stronger, more inclusive communities.

Govt Targets $2bn Textile Garment Industry Growth By 2033

0

The Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, has hinted of plans to scale up the textile and garment manufacturing industry to a value of over US$2 billion by 2033.

According to the Ministry, the expansion is expected to attract US$1.2 billion in new investments, create approximately 150,000 direct and indirect jobs, and revive cotton cultivation across 50,000 hectares of farmland nationwide.

Speaking at a stakeholder validation workshop on the draft Textiles and Garment Manufacturing Policy in Accra, Deputy Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Samson Ahi, reiterated the government’s strong commitment to revitalising the local textile industry.

“We aim to scale the industry to a value of over US$2 billion, attract US$1.2 billion in new investments, create 150,000 jobs, and ensure quality cotton production across 50,000 hectares of farmland,” he stated.

“These objectives are ambitious, but they are achievable through collective effort. Today’s workshop is not just about reviewing a document; it is about setting a shared roadmap that will shape the future of the industry,” he said.

Meanwhile, Minister of Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr. Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, urged industry stakeholders to design policies that promote inclusive job creation, particularly for women and youth. He emphasised the importance of merit-based employment practices.

“Do not create policies that lead to overstaffing or political favoritism. Hire people based on their competence and capacity to drive change. Our focus should be on building a future for young people. At the time we took over, nearly 15% of youth were unemployed. We need a mindset reset—a reset of the economy.”

The policy, once finalised, is expected to serve as a blueprint for sustainable growth in Ghana’s textile and garment sector.

Since Friday, the official Instagram account of housemate Bright Morgan has been hijacked by someone determined to see him disqualified from the show.

The accusation? Sexual assault. The target? Mide, his current love interest inside the house.

The alleged assault, according to the account, took place while Mide and Bright were lying in bed together.

In a viral post, the handler claimed Bright inappropriately touched Mide’s breast and buttocks while she was asleep, branding him a “rapist” and declaring the act unacceptable.

The post was accompanied by a clip of the pair cuddling.

Chioma also hailed her husband for always standing by her through every challenge, encouraging and supporting her while also serving as a constant source of motivation.

Spyro noted that since he ventured out on his own, he has not had to rely on any external financial support.

Spyro

KWAM 1 explained that he wasn’t treated fairly, as his health issue was not taken into consideration before he was subjected to public embarrassment.

Friends to Lovers, and then Trouble

The friction between Bright and his handler didn’t erupt overnight. For much of the game, Bright and Mide were seen as friendly but platonic.

That dynamic shifted dramatically after Thursday’s pool party, where the pair danced closely in the water, sparking speculation that romance was brewing.

Later, they were spotted sharing a bed, the moment that would later fuel the handler’s accusations.

So why the hostility? Bright entered the house making it clear he wasn’t looking for a romantic “ship,” stressing that he already had a partner outside.

But as his connection with Mide deepened, it became clear that he had abandoned that initial stance.

The Handler Goes Off-Script

Hours before posting the assault accusation, the account had already taken a swipe at Bright, accusing him of taking the “game too far.”

The handler also publicly mocked his finances, alleging that his girlfriend, identified in the post as an American woman named Ruth Diamond, had funded his entry into the show, even down to the clothes and boxers he wore.

“His American girlfriend is the one that bought everything our boss is wearing, down to his boxers… person wey don plan marriage this year. E no good like that nah,” the account wrote.

When the assault claims hit, the handler doubled down, also uploading a clip of Bright and Mide making out in the pool, describing him as a “very weak man” with “no self-control, no self-respect, no fear of God.”

The Mbata Family Responds

Bright’s family wasted no time addressing the unfolding chaos. In a statement signed by the Mbata family, they distanced themselves from the handler’s posts and reaffirmed their full support for the actor.

“We wish to make it unequivocally clear that the family is neither aware of, nor in support of any malicious act or utterance currently being associated with him,” the statement read.

“The Mbata family remains unwaveringly committed to standing by their son and brother, Bright Morgan, in the face of any attempt to misrepresent or tarnish his image. Our support for him is absolute.”

Is the Girlfriend the Handler?

Fans have speculated that Bright’s girlfriend, possibly the same Ruth Diamond mentioned by the handler, may be behind the posts.

The theory is that she’s seeking revenge over his budding romance with Mide.

While the family has not confirmed this, and the handler’s identity remains unverified, the rumour has only added more intrigue to the drama.

BrightStars Strike Back

Bright’s supporters, known collectively as “BrightStars,” rallied quickly.

They created a new Instagram account @official_bright_morgan  managed by friends and family, describing the handler’s posts as “pure hate” aimed at destroying his image.

“After all that went down a few hours ago, it came to our attention that the statement y’all saw circulating under Bright Morgan’s name was pure hate and malice to ruin his name and image,” the group wrote.

“But as a team and family, we took action and decided to continue supporting Bright Morgan using this new account.”

The new page gained traction fast, amassing over 90,000 followers, surpassing the original account’s 60,000 followers built since 2017.

The Handler Isn’t Backing Down

The rogue account has since told fans not to follow the new page, dismissing it as “fake” and reiterating calls for Bright’s disqualification.

The handler even accused the new page of buying followers, though no evidence has been provided.

What can be confirmed is that the original account has been active since 2018 and is currently being operated from Uganda.

Whether the handler is Bright’s alleged American girlfriend or someone else entirely remains a mystery, but what’s certain is that this saga has become one of the season’s most sensational side plots.

National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, on Saturday, August 10, led the party’s executives in the Ashanti Region to console the families of 16 members of the Saviour Church of Ghana at Obogu in the Asante Akyem South Municipality.

The victims lost their lives in a road accident on Monday, July 28, while returning from the church’s annual event.

As part of the visit, the party donated GH₵10,000 to the Saviour Church of Ghana and GH₵50,000 to the affected families.

Four other victims are currently receiving treatment at the hospital, with the church leadership indicating that they are responding well. The accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on that day when a vehicle carrying the church members collided with a fuel tanker coming from the opposite direction.

The tragedy plunged the Obogu community and members of the church into deep shock and mourning, leaving many families devastated.

While consoling the bereaved, Mr. Nketiah encouraged them to remain steadfast and faithful in these trying times.

“The news about this incident came through the party’s office because there is a liaison officer between the party and the Church. We have decided to come over today to console with the bereaved families and give some words of encouragement to the bereaved families.

“The news about their death came with a lot of pain, especially for those who have lost two or three children. If this was not the work of God, we would have been pointing accusing fingers at some people or something else,” he told the grieving crowd at the Obogu branch of the Saviour Church of Ghana.

He urged the bereaved families to be firm and said President Mahama and the NDC extend their deepest condolences to them.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the United States Department of Justice announced the extradition of three Ghanaians – Isaac Oduro Boateng (Kofi Boat), Insuah Ahmed (Pascal), and Derrick Van Yeboah (Van) – alleged to be the kingpins of a notorious scam gang, ‘The Enterprise’.

According to a statement issued by the FBI and the Department of Justice, Kofi Boat, Pascal, Van, and one other suspect who is at large, Patrick Kwame Asare (Borgar), were part of “high-ranking members of a criminal organisation based in Ghana that committed romance scams and business email compromises against individuals and businesses located across the US,” stealing and laundering more than $100 million from the victims.

Details of proceedings in court and the indictment document shared by the Attorney General’s Office of the Southern District of New York gave an insight into the alleged crimes committed by the four Ghanaians.

The crimes they have been charged with:

The Attorney General’s Office indicated that the four men had been charged with the following crimes:

One count of wire fraud conspiracy, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

One count of wire fraud, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

One count of money laundering conspiracy, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

One count of conspiracy to receive stolen money, which carries a maximum sentence of 5 years in prison.

One count of receipt of stolen money, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

If these men were to receive the maximum sentence for each of the crimes they have been accused of, they could serve up to 75 years in US prisons.

The inside details: Hajia4Reall’s jail term, deportation plan after serving time

However, the judge presiding over the case will decide on the number of years the suspects could get for each crime, despite the maximum sentence set by the US Congress.

The office noted that the charges against the accused persons are “merely accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.”

How the suspects were arrested and extradited:

The Attorney General’s Office also disclosed that a number of state institutions from Ghana and the United States were involved in the arrest and extradition of the suspects.

The office listed the FBI, which it praised for its outstanding work, and the US Department of Justice’s Office of International Affairs as the US agencies that played key roles in the arrest and extradition of the suspects.

The office also stated the role of Ghana’s International Cooperation Unit of the Office of the Attorney-General in securing the extraditions to the United States.

Additionally, the “Economic and Organised Crime Office, the Ghana Police Service – INTERPOL, Ghana’s Cyber Security Authority, and Ghana’s National Intelligence Bureau all provided significant assistance to ensure the success of these extraditions.”

Kofi Boat, two others extradited to US over $100 million fraud allegations

Details of the operations of the alleged kingpins of The Enterprise:

The indictment document, which was filed in the United States District Court, Southern District of New York, gave details of the alleged operations of the suspects.

The document showed that the suspects started defrauding their victims from across the United States, including in the Southern District of New York, from 2016 to sometime in May 2023.

It indicated that Kofi Boat, Pascal, Van, Borgar, and their collaborators “willfully and knowingly combined, conspired, confederated, and agreed together and with each other” to commit the crimes they have been accused of, including money laundering, wire fraud, and receiving stolen money.

The document also contained correspondence between the accused persons, which showed how they shared some of the money they had allegedly stolen from their victims.

“On or about June 4, 2020, PATRICK KWAME ASARE, a/k/a ‘Borgar,’ the defendant, messaged a co-conspirator not named herein (‘CC-1’) that $187,000 in romance scam proceeds were being transferred to CC-1 for laundering. On or about June 16, 2020, ISAAC ODURO BOATENG, a/k/a ‘Kofi Boat,’ the defendant, messaged CC-1 that $200,000 in romance scam proceeds were being transferred to CC-1 for laundering.

“On or about August 28, 2020, INUSAH AHMED, a/k/a ‘Pascal,’ the defendant, messaged a second co-conspirator not named herein (‘CC-2’) that $300,000 in romance scam proceeds were being transferred to CC-2 for laundering. Those funds were transferred across state lines, and CC-2 ultimately received those funds in a bank account located in the Southern District of New York. On or about September 3, 2020, DERRICK VAN YEBOAH, a/k/a “Van,” the defendant, induced a romance scam victim to transfer $18,500 to a third co-conspirator, not named herein (‘CC-3’) for laundering,” the document reads.

The document indicated that after stealing from victims in the US, the proceeds were “laundered to West Africa, where they were largely funnelled to individuals called ‘chairmen,’ who directed the activities of other members of the conspiracy.”

It stated that Kofi Boat and Pascal were considered chairmen of The Enterprise.

Even Man United spent $201m on players – Rev Eastwood Anaba tells congregation

Rev Eastwood Anaba is the head pastor of Fountain Gate Chapel Rev Eastwood Anaba is the head pastor of Fountain Gate Chapel

The Founder of Fountain Gate Chapel, Reverend Eastwood Anaba, has used Premier League giants Manchester United’s spending in the 2025 transfer season to advise Christians to be generous.

He explained that despite Manchester United’s underperformance in the 2024/2025 season, where they finished 15th on the Premier League table, they have still invested heavily ahead of the new season.

The clergyman noted that the Red Devils’ ability to spend about $201 million to sign new players and bolster the squad is an indication of how people need to invest even in challenging times.

Top 10 richest footballers in2025: Faiq Bolkiah beats Ronaldo with $20 billion net worth

“Manchester United, which is struggling, ranked 15th, has just spent $201 million on footballers. Because Manchester United can’t die like that, money has made them resilient,” he said, as shared on his X page on August 10, 2025.

Rev Anaba used the scenario to admonish Christians to be financially generous when it comes to church activities to reap benefits.

He warned that churches will soon collapse if people don’t pay offerings and invest when needed.

Frimpong Manso resigns as Ghana U-17 head coach

“If we don’t recover from our financial slumber, many of our churches will die. When a pastor holds a meeting at a convention center or elsewhere and doesn’t receive an offering, do you see how packed the place is? They say, ‘Oh, they did the meeting without receiving an offering.’

“They did the meeting, but someone behind the scenes paid for it. Someone gave $300,000; someone gave $1,000. May you be among those who support behind the scenes and make things happen,” he added.

Okudzeto Ablakwa Addresses Conversations About the New Presidential Jet After the Helicopter Incident

0

North Tongu Member of Parliament, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who doubles as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, has shared his views on public discussions about whether Ghana should buy a new presidential jet.

These talks began after the tragic military helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, in the Ashanti Region, which claimed the lives of eight people, including two government ministers.

‘Crashed Military Helicopter Parts Missing’

0

SOME IMPORTANT parts of the crashed military helicopter, which claimed eight lives, including two cabinet ministers, are reportedly missing, prompting wild search for them.

These missing key parts, if found, would help investigators, who are currently working at the crash site in a forest at Sikaman Brofoyedru near Obuasi, to help identify the exact cause of the accident.

The Ashanti Regional Co-ordinating Council (ARCC), in a press release, has announced a cash reward for those who would willingly return the missing parts latest by the close of Monday, August 11, 2025.

However, the ARCC has also sternly cautioned that anyone who would be found in possession of the missing helicopter parts after the above stated deadline would be severely dealt with by the law.

“Intelligence gathering by the Ashanti Regional Co-ordinating Council (ARCC) indicates that some of the residents who were first at the scene of the tragic helicopter crash that happened on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 picked some parts of the helicopter and other belongings at the scene.

“The Ashanti Regional Co-ordinating Council is admonishing any person in possession of any part of the helicopter or belongings recovered to return these items. This includes all items no matter how small, such as metals, screws, drives or boards.

“The ARCC is willing to offer a cash reward for any person who willingly returns any item. This offer will be in place until the close of day, Monday, August 11, 2025.

“Any person found in possession of such items beyond the above date would be deemed a criminal and will face the full rigours of the law,” the press statement from the ARCC, dated August 9, 2025, said.

Authored and signed by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the release also directed that “The items could be handed over to the Unit Committee, Assembly Member, Municipal or District Chief Executives or any member of the investigating team on the ground.”

The sound quality of King Paluta’s ‘Aseda’ is poor

0

Beatmenace is a Ghanaian sound engineer Beatmenace is a Ghanaian sound engineer

Ghanaian sound engineer, Kofi Boachie-Ansah, popularly known as Beatmenace, has criticised the sound quality of King Paluta’s hit song ‘Aseda’.

According to Beatmenace, the sound coming from some Ghanaian producers today cannot compete with music being produced in other African countries, including South Africa, Cape Verde, Nigeria, and even some stuff from Togo and Benin.

Buttressing his point, he used King Paluta’s “Aseda,” as an example.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, where the discussion focused on the quality of music production in Ghana, he acknowledged that the song was catchy, made waves commercially, and had people dancing across the country, but argued that its sound quality was poor.

“I think it’s dropped, it’s fallen. We can do better because even if you compare a lot of what we produce in Ghana to what is coming from South Africa, what is coming from Cape Verde, what’s coming from Nigeria, and even some stuff from Togo and Benin, I don’t think we can compete sonically.

“I agree with what Kwame said about the song, Lomo Lomo. The melodic and lyrical cadence and the production sounds Nigerian. It’s a lovely song, I love that song. But if I did not have the Ghanaian experience, I happen to be anywhere in the world and I am tapped into Afrobeats culture and I hear that song, I will never link that song to Ghana,” he stated

He added, “The sound quality of Aseda is poor. It is what it is. Is it a good song? It’s a very catchy song… It’s a lovely song, it’s very commercial, it was successful. But the sound quality…”

COPEC pushes for data-driven fare system after 20% transport hike suspension

0

Duncan Amoah, the Executive Secretary of COPEC Duncan Amoah, the Executive Secretary of COPEC

The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) is calling for Ghana to adopt a clear, scientific method for determining changes in public transport fares, rather than relying on negotiations between government officials and transport unions.

This follows a recent plan by the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council to increase fares by 20%, citing reasons such as the failure of prices of goods, services, and spare parts to drop after a 15% fare reduction in May.

COPEC’s Executive Secretary, Duncan Amoah, told Citi Business News that the current system is outdated and that fare adjustments should be based on transparent calculations, for example, working out the cost of fuel per litre per kilometer, and making that data publicly available.

“Public transport fares should be scientifically driven, not based on whims and wishes,” Amoah said.

“In the petroleum sector, we can determine the cost per litre per kilometre in the country using all the metrics for calculating transport fares, and we should be able to publish that,” he added.

COPEC has also paused its plan to take legal action against the fare increase, following the suspension of the proposed hike, which was set to take effect on August 8, 2025.

The Chamber says it will continue to engage stakeholders and push for the adoption of a transparent, evidence-based framework. It stressed that such a system would prevent unnecessary disputes, give both drivers and passengers clarity, and ensure future fare adjustments are fair to all parties involved.

Faiq Bolkiah beats Ronaldo with $20 billion net worth

In 2025, the world’s richest footballers have transformed their on-field success into vast financial empires, with wealth driven by a mix of high salaries, endorsements, and diverse business ventures.

Topping the list is Faiq Bolkiah, with a staggering $20 billion net worth, primarily from his Brunei royal family inheritance, dwarfing his earnings from playing for Ratchaburi FC in Thailand.

Cristiano Ronaldo follows with $800 million, amassed through his $200 million annual Al-Nassr contract, a lifetime Nike deal, and his CR7 brand, which spans fashion, hotels, and fitness ventures.

Lionel Messi, with $650 million, ranks third, combining his Inter Miami salary with a lifetime Adidas contract, the Messi Store, and real estate investments like MIM Hotels.

David Beckham, at $450 million, leverages his Inter Miami ownership and endorsements with brands like Armani and Pepsi, while Neymar’s $250 million comes from his Al-Hilal contract, a £23 million Nike deal, and media ventures like his Brazil-based production company.

The list continues with Dave Whelan ($230 million), whose wealth stems from founding JJB Sports and owning Wigan Athletic, rather than his modest playing career.

Wayne Rooney ($216 million) built his fortune through Manchester United’s record-breaking contracts and post-retirement coaching and punditry gigs.

Karim Benzema ($200 million) benefits from his Al-Ittihad salary and Gulf-based AI sports tech partnerships.

Zlatan Ibrahimović ($190 million) maintains wealth via real estate, AC Milan ownership stakes, and media projects like his autobiography and podcasts.

Rounding out the top ten is Kylian Mbappé ($180 million), whose Real Madrid contract, including a massive signing bonus, is bolstered by investments in sport-tech and blockchain assets like NFTs.

These footballers exemplify a shift where strategic branding, investments, and global influence often outshine salaries, creating lasting wealth beyond the pitch.

Dozens of Malian soldiers arrested over alleged coup plot against junta, sources say

0

Junta leader Gen Asimi Goïta seized power through two coups in 2020 and 2021 Junta leader Gen Asimi Goïta seized power through two coups in 2020 and 2021

Dozens of soldiers have been arrested in Mali accused of plotting to topple the country’s military leaders, sources say.

The wave of arrests, which reportedly went on overnight and are expected to continue, reflect increased tensions within the military government, with reports that a jihadist insurgency in the north is gaining ground. The authorities have not commented on the arrests.

Initial reports indicated that Gen Abass Dembele, the former governor of the Mopti region and Gen Nema Sagara, one of the few women at the highest levels of the Malian army, were among those detained.

However, a source close to Gen Dembele told the BBC that neither of them had been arrested.

The source, who confirmed the ongoing arrests, told a BBC reporter in Bamako that he had just left Gen Dembele’s house and he was “doing well”.

The AFP news agency reported that the detained soldiers were allegedly planning to overthrow the government, citing multiple sources within the military and junta-backed transitional council.

“All are soldiers. Their objective was to overthrow the junta,” it quoted an unnamed lawmaker in the National Transition Council as saying.

He said there had been about “50 arrests”, while a security source said there were at least 20 arrests, linked to “attempts to destabilise the institutions,” AFP reports.

The arrests have reportedly been going on over a number of days.

They come amid political tension heightened by the junta’s crackdown on former Prime Ministers Moussa Mara and Choguel Maiga over accusations of harming the reputation of the state and embezzlement.

Mara, a recent outspoken critic of the military government, has been in detention since 1 August, while Maiga is facing judicial sanctions.

In May, the junta dissolved all political parties following rare anti-government protests, which Mara described as a severe blow to reconciliation efforts initiated by the military leaders last year.

The junta leader Gen Asimi Goïta, who seized power through two coups in 2020 and 2021, had promised elections last year, but these have never been held.

In July, the transition period was extended by five years, clearing him to continue leading the country until at least 2030.

Mali has been fighting an Islamist insurgency since 2012 – one of the reasons given for the military takeover but attacks by jihadist groups have continued and even increased.

Alongside its neighbours Niger and Burkina Faso, it has enlisted the help of Russian allies to contain the jihadist attacks in the region after breaking ties with France – but there has been no significant improvements in security.

I Cried All Night Over Military Helicopter Crash – MC Yeboah

MC Yaa Yeboah

Renowned Ghanaian Entertainment Pundit, Yaa Yeboah, popularly known as MC Yeboah, has shared her gloomy experience following the tragic loss of eight individuals, including two serving ministers and other prominent figures in a helicopter crash.

Sharing her experience, Yaa Yeboah stated, “I was performing some chores when I heard breaking news of a Ghana Armed Forces helicopter that had gone off the radar. I had confirmed with a few friends, but didn’t have any tangible confirmation. After 15 minutes, there was confirmation from many media outlets indicating that all passengers on board had lost their lives.”

She added that, even though she did not have direct relations with the deceased, the news shook her, making her cry her heart out for the departed souls and their families.

“Alhaji Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed was a man full of life, and Omane Boamah, I am told, is a very brilliant individual who has contributed immensely to the building of the nation, especially in his former role as Communication Minister. This is a great loss for the nation. I was shocked when I heard of their death.”

She made this known on Saturday’s United on UTV, which witnessed the paying of tributes to the eight fallen patriots.

The deceased include the Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, and the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Alhaji Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed. Also among the deceased were NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, former parliamentary candidate Mr. Samuel Aboagye, and three military personnel: Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

MC Yeboah also condemned the trivialising of the incident, saying, “This is an accident that can happen to everybody, so we should learn from it and measure our ways.”

Asiedu Nketia Supports Obogu Accident Victims’ Families

Johnson Asiedu Nketia (1st right) with the Ashanti Regional Minister

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has donated GH¢60,000 to the Saviour Church of Ghana to support the families of 16 young members who lost their lives in a recent road accident.

The tragedy, which occurred as the youth returned from a church programme, has plunged Obogu in the Asante Akim South District into deep mourning.

During a visit to the church on Saturday, August 9, 2025, Mr. Asiedu Nketia expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, urging them to find strength in their faith. “Every occurrence in life has a divine purpose,” he told the congregation.

The donation comprised GH¢50,000 from his personal resources and GH¢10,000 from the NDC’s Gender Ministry. He explained that the funds were intended to ease the immediate burden on the affected families.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia disclosed that he had sent a party representative, Justice Yeboah, to the church soon after the accident to convey his initial sympathies. He also appealed to the congregation to pray for Ghana and for the NDC, seeking divine protection from future tragedies.

He was accompanied by a high-powered delegation, including Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene; Ashanti Regional NDC Chairman Augustus Andrews Nana Akwasi; Kumasi Mayor Mr. Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi; Ashanti Regional Organiser and Political Coordinator for Government Business, Isham Alhassan; and the Acting Ashanti Regional Secretary, Mr. Baah Acheamfour.

Also present were the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atwima Nwabiagya North, Mba Zachariah; Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Atwima Nwabiagya South, Wisdom Boamah; MCE for Ahafo Ano North, Kwasi Adusei; and Madam Eunice Ohenewaa, MCE for Ejisu.

The NDC Chairman’s visit, marked by solemn prayers and words of encouragement, came at a time when the ruling party had been criticised for failing to visit the victims’ families. In the Ashanti Region, residents had questioned why government officials — including the Regional Minister, the DCE of the area, the Gender Minister, and other top party figures — had not earlier shown solidarity with the bereaved.

For many in Obogu, Mr. Asiedu Nketia’s appearance with his entourage signalled an effort to “right the wrongs” and demonstrate compassion in the wake of the tragedy.

Ghanaians Hail Bawumia’s Asomdwehene Traits

0

President John Mahama and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

Former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been lauded by a section of Ghanaians for exhibiting traits reminiscent of the late Professor John Evans Atta Mills, affectionately called Asomdwehene (King of Peace).

Dr. Bawumia, who served as Ghana’s Vice President before the current administration, visited President John Dramani Mahama on Saturday, August 9, to console him over the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight people.

The gesture has been described as an act of unity and statesmanship, echoing the calm, non-divisive leadership style for which Atta Mills was revered until his untimely passing in office.

Many citizens, political commentators and civil society actors have praised Dr. Bawumia for maintaining a temperate and considerate political posture even in the face of partisan divides.

Professor Atta Mills was celebrated for avoiding inflammatory rhetoric, focusing instead on consensus-building and peaceful governance.

According to admirers, Dr. Bawumia’s decision to stand with President Mahama during a moment of national grief reflects a rare maturity in contemporary politics, where ideological differences often overshadow compassion and solidarity.

Vice President of IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil, in a heartfelt social media post, described both President Mahama and Dr. Bawumia as “amongst the finest politicians in the whole world,” and commended them for providing “shining examples” during dark times.

He noted that while leaders in other parts of the world are trapped in “pointless tussles” that polarise their nations, Ghana is blessed to have two statesmen who can rise above political rivalry to unify the country when it matters most.

Mr. Bentil expressed gratitude to God for giving the nation “temperate, considerate, calm-mannered, yet capable men to lead us,” urging Ghanaians not to take such leadership for granted.

The outpouring of public admiration for Dr. Bawumia’s gesture underscores a wider yearning for politics anchored in mutual respect, peace and pragmatic problem-solving.

As Ghana continues to navigate its challenges, the example set by leaders like Atta Mills — and now embodied in part by Dr. Bawumia — offers a vision of governance that values national cohesion over partisanship.

For many, such moments are a reminder that progress is not achieved by “slashing and condemning” opponents, but by steadily building consensus and advancing together as a united people.

Australia to recognise Palestinian state in September

0

Australia will recognise a Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly in September, following similar moves by the UK, France and Canada, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has said.

Albanese said Australia received commitments from the Palestinian Authority (PA) including to demilitarise, hold general elections and continue to recognise Israel’s right to exist.

“A two-state solution is humanity’s best hope to break the cycle of violence in the Middle East and to bring an end to the conflict, suffering and starvation in Gaza,” he said on Monday.

Israel, under increasing pressure to end the war in Gaza, has said recognising a Palestinian state “rewards terrorism”.

Since Saturday, five people have died as a result of starvation and malnutrition in Gaza, bringing the total number to 217 deaths, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.

It also said that in total more than 61,000 people have been killed as a result of Israel’s military campaign since 2023.

Israel launched its offensive in response to the Hamas-led attack on 7 October that year, in which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others were taken hostage.

The Palestinian Authority, which controls parts of the Israeli-occupied West Bank, earlier said recognition of statehood shows growing support for self-determination of its people.

Albanese said the decision was made after his government received commitments from Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas that Hamas would play no role in any future state.

The move also comes after conversations with his counterparts in the UK, France, New Zealand, and Japan over the past fortnight, Albanese said.

“There is a moment of opportunity here, and Australia will work with the international community to seize it,” he told the media.

Last Sunday, a pro-Palestinian protest drew tens of thousands of supporters who walked across Sydney Harbour Bridge, a day after a court ruling allowed the demonstration to happen.
Bowen: UK move to recognise Palestinian state is a diplomatic crowbar to revive peace process
What does recognising a Palestinian state mean?

The US has stated it will not follow suit and believes that recognising Palestinian statehood would be rewarding Hamas.

Over the weekend, US Vice-President JD Vance reiterated the US had no plans to recognise a Palestinian state, citing a lack of functional government.

At a press conference on Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticised countries planning to recognise Palestinian statehood.

“To have European countries and Australia march into that rabbit hole… it is disappointing – and I think it’s actually shameful,” he said.

“They know what they would do if, right next to Melbourne or right next to Sydney, you had this horrific attack. I think you would do at least what we’re doing.”

Israel has come under fire in recent days over its plans to take over Gaza City, with UN ambassadors condemning the move which Netanyahu says is the “best way” to end the war.

Last year, Spain, Ireland and Norway formally recognised Palestine as a state, in the hopes it would encourage a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel.

The state of Palestine is currently recognised by 147 of the UN’s 193 member states.

At the UN, it has the status of a “permanent observer state”, allowing participation but no voting rights.
