In a ceremony rich with tradition and symbolism, the Kingmakers of Ngleshie Alata has officially installed Mrs. Alberta Addo as the new Queen Mother for James Town in the Greater Accra Region.

The new queen mother Naa Affipong IV, who resides in the United States, swore the oath of allegiance to the kingmakers of Ngleshie Alata and the Principal elders of Ajumanko3. Adjumanku Dawuranpong on the 17th August 2025 at the royal house of Adjumanku Dawuranpong.

The installation was hailed by elders and kingmakers as a true royal, deeply rooted in the bloodlines of both Adjumanku Dawuranpong and the historic Mantse We of James Town.

The installation took place following the full endorsement of the kingmakers of Akuntua Kojo We headed by the Dzaasetse Nii Opke V, with significant support from other major royal families and heads of lineages. Among those present were Nii Ayaa Klemekuku of the Nii Armah Twitwegu family, who represents the Adjumanku Dawuranpong lineage, as well as the attorney and family head from the Ofosu house. Also in attendance was the respected Robert Ayi Golightly otherwise known as Nii Ayi Kofi II, head of the Odame Kojo We family.

The Queen Mother’s lineage connects her to the most revered royal houses of Ngleshie Alata, particularly James Town, and her installation marks a reaffirmation of traditional authority and unity among the various families.
In keeping with tradition, the Dzaasetse of Ngleshie Alata sent traditional drinks to the extended royal families, a customary act signaling the official acceptance and blessing of the Queen Mother’s position. These drinks were received by all the houses, affirming the family’s unanimous support and confirming her legitimacy.

The ceremony did more than crown a Queen Mother; it restored the sacred bond between royal lines, reaffirming the strength and continuity of the Ngleshie Alata chieftaincy structure.

Born into a lineage rich with culture, history, and nobility, Mrs. Alberta Addo, affectionately known as Ara Adjoa Mlalo, carries within her veins the true essence of Ga royal blood. Her roots trace deeply into the proud traditions of Ngleshie Alata, the royal quarter of Jamestown, Accra, a land renowned for its storied past and noble leaders.

Alberta was born to Nii Odame-Kojo. Her mother, Madam Comfort Quaye, nurtured her with the same reverence for legacy and identity, ensuring Alberta grew with a profound sense of her ancestry.

Her paternal lineage is even more illustrious. Alberta’s grandfather was none other than Nii Ahuma Kojo II, the revered Paramount Chief of Ngleshie Alata, known in royal circles as Taa Nuu. Under his leadership, the traditions and customs of the Ga people were preserved with dignity, and his legacy remains etched in the hearts of many.

Through both bloodlines, Mrs. Alberta Addo holds ties to two distinguished royal houses Adjumanku Dawurampong and Mantse We, reinforcing her rightful place in the royal hierarchy of the Ga State. Her identity is not only a name or a title; it is a living testament to generations of noble leadership, resilience, and cultural pride.

Now residing in the United States with her family, Mrs. Alberta Addo continues to uphold her heritage with grace. Though oceans apart from her ancestral home, the spirit of Ngleshie Alata, the wisdom of her forebears, and the strength of her lineage remain close to her heart.

In a passionate appeal for peace and progress, Naa Affipong IV emphasized the importance of due process and unity in the installation of a substantive chief.

According to her, customs and traditions have been duly followed, with the Kingmakers and the Dzaasetse all in agreement on ensuring that the right steps are taken in choosing the next leader. She stressed that the installation of a new chief must be carried out in accordance with established customs, and urged all stakeholders to put aside personal interests for the greater good of the community.

“We must unite and allow the proper processes to take their course,” she stated, urging those with influence in the affairs of the stool to prioritize peace and stability.

Naa Affipong IV, also appealed to the citizens of Ngleshie Alata to lend their full support to the ongoing efforts to foster development. “Let us not be divided. When we are united, we can achieve much more for our people and for the future of our children.”

As Ngleshie Alata prepares for this important transition, her call serves as a reminder that lasting development and peace can only be achieved through collaboration, respect for tradition, and a shared vision for the community’s progress.

Maternal Detention: Vulnerable mothers reportedly trapped in wards over unpaid bills

Some health personnel are forced to donate to settle bills of such patients Some health personnel are forced to donate to settle bills of such patients

Despite Ghana’s free maternal health policy, several vulnerable mothers remain detained in hospital wards after childbirth for being unable to settle outstanding medical bills, reports say.

According to a report by citinewsroom.com, some health personnel have lamented the situation, narrating how they are sometimes forced to contribute to clear the medical bills on behalf of such patients.

“The patients, mostly from rural communities, are unable to settle their bills. Sometimes we, medical staff, have to step in to support or mobilise funds from benevolent people to settle their bills,” a midwife at the Gomoa Oguaa Clinic, Kemor Mathilda, said.

The government’s free maternal health initiative is designed to ease the financial burden of childbirth, but critical gaps remain. Complications and basic necessities often fall outside its coverage, leaving many mothers in distress.

To bridge the gap, some Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) occasionally step in.

One of them, led by Selassie Doughan, recently donated to mothers at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital, Gomoa Oguaa Clinic, Gomoa Enyame, Gomoa Tarkwa, and Gomoa Ehyiam CHPS compounds. While commending the existing policy, Doughan stressed the need for urgent reforms.

“The policy is actually supporting mothers, but I am strongly convinced that it needs a review. It must cover every cost of labour and delivery. But while we wait on the government’s consideration of this suggestion, we’ll keep supporting mothers,” she said.

By Gifty Amofa

Accra, Aug. 15, GNA – The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Elections Committee said the rerun of the Ashanti Regional chairmanship election will take place on Friday, August 22, 2025.

This followed a decision by the Elections Dispute Adjudication Committee (EDAC) after the submission of a petition and subsequent engagement with stakeholders, a press release copied to the Ghana News Agency said on Friday.

“The EDAC’s ruling, delivered after a review of a petition and submissions from stakeholders, called for fresh polls to ensure fairness, transparency, and strict adherence to the Association’s electoral guidelines,” it said.

The release said a composite regional voters’ register would be published within the week on the GJA website and the regional platform and made available to the candidates.

It said those who wished to vote by proxy must apply to the Chairman of the GJA Elections’ Committee, providing proof of eligibility and a valid national identification document.

Once approved, it said, applicants would have to download the proxy voting forms, complete them in triplicate and submit them to the Committee, the EC Presiding Officer and the designated proxy.

“All applications and completed forms must be submitted to the GJA Elections Committee Chairman not later than 1700 hours on Tuesday, August 19, 2025.”

It said the voting would be done at the Electoral Commission’s Regional Office, Kumasi, and polls would be opened at 0900 hours and close at 1500 hours.

Voters are to present their Ghana cards or passport only for identification, it said, stating the process would be supervised by the EC, with a representative of the Regional GJA.

“In line with best practice, ballots will be counted immediately after polls close and results will be declared on the spot,” the release noted

The GJA Elections Committee urged all eligible members in the Region to take part in the process and to uphold the values of integrity, unity and professionalism that defined the Association.

Gov’t to invest $2bn annually under Big Push Agenda – Alex Segbefia – Citinewsroom – Comprehensive News in Ghana

0

Chief of Staff at the Office of the Vice President, Alex Segbefia, has announced that the government will allocate $2 billion annually over the next five years to accelerate infrastructural development across Ghana under the Big Push Agenda.

Speaking as Special Guest of Honour at the 2025 Agotime Kente Festival in the Volta Region on Sunday, August 17, Mr. Segbefia said the initiative is designed to enhance productivity and drive growth in critical sectors, including education, transportation, and healthcare.

“We will ensure that infrastructure is capable of catering to our industries in a sustainable manner. Tourists, domestic or foreign, are more likely to visit a place when they know they can move around safely. That is just one benefit of the president’s Big Push Agenda,” he stated.

Mr. Segbefia added that the plan would channel resources into schools, hospitals, and other essential facilities, describing it as a “large-scale, ambitious development drive” to support national progress.

On local concerns, he assured residents of Agotime of the government’s commitment to resolving the enclave’s longstanding water supply challenges. He revealed that, in collaboration with the Community Water and Sanitation Agency, efforts are underway to extend the Adidome Water Project to the area.

“The challenges you raised are already part of the government’s development agenda. We acknowledge that things are far from perfect, but we will not leave your concerns unanswered. Work is ongoing to connect Agotime to the Adidome Water Project,” he said.

Mr. Segbefia also highlighted the recent inauguration of a new board for the Ho Teaching Hospital, which he described as a strategic step toward modernising healthcare delivery and positioning Ghana as a hub for medical tourism.

Fuseini: Honour fallen officers by making responsible mining work

2 minutes read

Former Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Inusah Fuseini, has called on the government to ensure that the new responsible mining project delivers real results and does not become another failed initiative in the fight against illegal mining.

Speaking on Joy News’ Newsfile on Saturday, August 16, Mr Fuseini said the six officers who died in the August 6 helicopter crash were travelling to Obuasi to promote responsible mining, not to clamp down on illegal activity.

“What our fallen heroes were on their way to Obuasi to do was to promote what we call responsible mining. Simply put, responsible mining is understood to mean how to mine for mineral resources without damaging the environment,” he explained.

He described the officers as heroes who had made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation. “That is the utmost sacrifice of any public officer, any citizen of this country who elects to serve the country. They sacrificed their lives for the country.”

Mr Fuseini argued that the best way to honour them would be to ensure the success of the programme. “The best tribute in their honour will be to ensure that this is not one of those occasions where political leaders are ticking the box,” he said.

He added that government must demonstrate real commitment to creating a culture of environmentally sound mining practices.

“If the responsible mining activity takes off, and people can see that community mining or cooperative mining can be done in a way that is environmentally honourable, people will now begin to appreciate that those who have refused with impunity and are damaging the environment are the root cause of our problem.”

Mr Fuseini warned that failure would be deeply discouraging. “I will not feel encouraged or enthused. I will feel disappointed. But I don’t think that it will come to that,” he said.

Over 6,000 residents depend on three-bed CHPS compound for healthcare – Citinewsroom – Comprehensive News in Ghana

0

The over 6,000 residents of Fetteh, a vibrant tourist community in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region rely on a three-bed Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound for their basic health needs.

Most of the residents travel long distances to access healthcare. In demand for easy accessibility to healthcare, leaders of the community want the facility upgraded to offer a wide range of services.

The facility initially served as a work station for the University of Ghana’s Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research and was utilised for research into water borne diseases before it was converted into a health facility.

However, the Gomoa Fetteh CHPs compound has not seen any upgrade though has existed for over four decades.

What was supposed to be a maternal ward has been converted into an accommodation for medical staff. The entire facility now has a three bed general ward for treating all manner of cases.

In its current state, it is unable to meet the health needs of residents who have to either rely on a private hospital or other health posts in other areas.

But, the community’s elegant beach front attracts varied categories of tourists. Community leaders fear the facility may not be able to respond to health emergencies involving tourists and have initiated a move to expand the facility.

Currently, a 15 bed male, female and children’s ward is being constructed by the community.

A separate eight bed maternal ward is also under construction and a three bed accommodation facility for health workers is also nearing completion.

These projects are expected to be completed and handed over in September.

Chief of Gomoa Fetteh, Nana Abor Atta II is therefore appealing to the government to upgrade the facility to a higher status following the completion of these community-initiated projects.

Speaking to Channel One News during the launch of the Gomoa Fetteh Ahorbaa Kese Festival, he expressed optimism that an upgrade would place the facility in the position to offer varied health services to the people and tourists.

Following the final funeral ceremony for the eight victims of the August 6, 2025, helicopter crash, a thanksgiving ceremony was held for the Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, one of the victims of the crash.

The service, held at the Christ the King Catholic Church in Accra, on August 17, 2025, drew various political figures, to express their gratitude to God for a successful funeral and to offer prayers for the families of the departed.

President John Dramani Mahama and his wife, Lordina Mahama, were in attendance.

Other political figures, including Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa; and Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, were spotted arriving at the premises of the church.

On August 6, 2025, Boamah was among eight people who tragically died in a Ghana Air Force Harbin Z-9EH helicopter crash in the Adansi-Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

The aircraft had departed Accra at around 9:12 AM en route to Obuasi for an official anti-illegal mining event when it disappeared from the radar and was later found engulfed in flames. All on board perished.

Among the other victims were the Minister of Environment, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Limuna Mohammed Muniru; NDC Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong; former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye, and three air force crew members.

The crash has been deemed one of Ghana’s deadliest air disasters in recent memory. It triggered immediate national mourning, with President John Mahama declaring a three-day mourning period and ordering flags to be flown at half-mast.

Investigations are underway. Authorities have recovered flight data and cockpit voice recorders and have invited international experts to assist in the probe. A Board of Inquiry has also been established, with Ghanaian and American experts expected to work together for transparency and accuracy.

Islamic funerals for Dr Murtala Mohammed and Limuna Mohammed Muniru were held on August 10 at the State House Forecourt in Accra, attended by President Mahama, the First Lady, ECOWAS dignitaries, and the President of Sierra Leone.

A general funeral for all eight was later held on August 15 with burial ceremonies for the remaining six.

Kudus (L) and Richarlison (R) celebrating one of the goals Kudus (L) and Richarlison (R) celebrating one of the goals

Richarlison has lavished praise on new teammate, Mohammed Kudus, after the Ghanaian lit up Tottenham Hotspur’s 3-0 win over Burnley with a dazzling debut performance on Saturday, August 16, 2025.

Kudus, who assisted both of Richarlison’s goals, was at the heart of Spurs’ attack, combining flair, precision, and timing to devastating effect.

His second assist set up a breathtaking acrobatic volley from the Brazilian, a strike already being touted as one of the goals of the season.

Watch Kudus’ incredible performance in Spurs’ 3-0 win over Burnley

Speaking after the match, Richarlison compared Kudus’ flair and confidence on the ball to the artistry of Brazilian football.

“I feel this guy is Brazilian. I love dribbles, I love skills, and I’m so happy with the game. The gaffer said it was crucial before the game, I’m so happy,” he said.

The comments reflect the instant chemistry building between Spurs’ new attacking duo.

Kudus’ ability to glide past defenders and create openings resonated with Richarlison, whose own career has been shaped by Brazil’s culture of expressive, skillful football often described as “samba style.”

Kudus himself emphasised that his approach is about more than tricks and flicks; it’s about timing, execution, and entertaining supporters in the right moments.

“Part of the main reason I came here is playing in the position I want to play and being in the position where I can entertain the fans, because I believe that’s what the game is about.

“But most importantly, it’s doing it at the right time. Good timing, higher positions in the game, so it’s good we got the win and enjoyed part of the game as well,” he said.

‘He Doesn’t Need the Voters’ – Kwame Pianim on Why Mahama is Ghana’s Only Hope

0

Kwame Pianim, a distinguished member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has shared his views on why President John Dramani Mahama remains the most suitable leader to steer Ghana in the right direction as per reports from Ghana Web.

Pianim, speaking in an interview with TV3’s Beatrice Adu, emphasized Mahama’s unparalleled experience in public service, which he believes positions him as the only person capable of addressing the country’s challenges.

“The president has the historic opportunity to set this country right,” Pianim stated, pointing at Mahama’s extensive background, from serving as an assemblyman to holding the highest office in the land.

He believes that Mahama’s familiarity with the nation’s issues makes him uniquely qualified to lead Ghana into a new era.

Pianim further stressed that Mahama’s return to the presidency after years of political service gives him a special position, free from the constraints of political party loyalty or the pressures of electoral cycles.

“He doesn’t need the voters again; he doesn’t need the political party,” Pianim remarked.

He believes that this independence enables Mahama to focus on setting an agenda that could reshape the political system of Ghana.

According to Pianim, Mahama could also play a pivotal role in reforming the political culture in Ghana, particularly by addressing the monetization of politics.

With this power, he argues that Mahama could inspire future generations and provide hope for the youth.

Akwatia NPP Candidate Defends Education Record Amid “Joshua” Claim

Solomon Kwame Asumadu
Solomon Kwame Asumadu

Solomon Kwame Asumadu, New Patriotic Party parliamentary candidate for Akwatia, has reinforced his self-declared role as the constituency’s “Joshua” while forcefully rejecting claims about his education.

Addressing supporters during an August 17 unity walk, Asumadu invoked biblical parallels to position himself as successor to late MP Ernest Kumi.

“Just as Moses couldn’t reach the Promised Land and Joshua completed the journey, I’ve been chosen to fulfill Ernest Kumi’s vision for Akwatia,” he stated, pledging development beyond reliance on parliamentary funds. “I’m an action man focused on prosperity and youth progress.”

The candidate directly confronted rumors about his qualifications: “Those claiming I’m uneducated don’t know the truth. I studied human resource management at tertiary level.” He challenged detractors questioning his public speaking, asserting, “People saying this should be ashamed—it’s false.”

Asumadu’s dual messaging—spiritual symbolism and personal defense—comes weeks before the September 2 by-election. Will voters embrace his “promised land” vision or scrutinize his credentials more closely?

Kurt Okraku, GFA rally behind Semenyo after racial abuse at Anfield

Semenyo is a player of the Black Stars Semenyo is a player of the Black Stars

The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has thrown his full weight behind Black Stars forward, Antoine Semenyo after the striker was subjected to racial abuse during Bournemouth’s Premier League opener against Liverpool at Anfield, on Friday, August 15, 2025.

Describing the incident as “unacceptable and deeply regrettable,” Okraku stressed that racism and bigotry must never be tolerated in football or society.

Writing on Facebook, he praised Semenyo’s response both on and off the pitch.

“What inspires me most, however, is not the incident itself but Antoine’s remarkable response. In the face of provocation, he chose grace, dignity, and strength of character. On the pitch, he reminded the world of his brilliance with two goals. Off it, he reminded us of the true essence of football — respect, tolerance, and unity that transcend race, nationality, and background,” he posted.

The GFA also issued a statement condemning the abuse “in the strongest terms,” lauding the 24-year-old for handling the situation with courage and composure.

“Antoine not only showcased his exceptional talent on the pitch but also displayed extraordinary maturity and dignity off it. We stand with you, Antoine, and with all who carry the torch in the ongoing fight against racism,” the Association noted.

Both Okraku and the GFA assured Semenyo of the full support of the Ghanaian football family.

“We are proud of you, we stand with you, and we continue the fight against racism together. Football must always remain the unifying force that brings people from all walks of life together,” Okraku emphasised.

What was supposed to be a normal TESCON election at the Apenteng Appiah Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) turned out to be a major setback for the Kennedy Agyapong Campaign, following their involvement in the election.

Normally, NPP students on campus put themselves forward for election to various executive positions, with a promise to advance the interest of the party.

However, this year’s election was different, as prior to the election, news on campus emerged that the Kennedy Campaign had a list of candidates for each executive position it was backing.

These executives were projected through the Kennedy Campaign as supporters of Kennedy Agyapong, and NPP students of the university were urged to vote for them.

In a viral video, Kennedy Agyapong himself was seen, prior to the election, lifting the hand of a candidate and urging the students to vote for the candidate, who contested for the Women’s Commissioner position.

However, the TESCON students refused Kennedy Agyapong’s call, and voted for their preferred candidate for the Women’s Commissioner position, as well as for the other positions.

Just as the Women’s Commissioner, the TESCON students massively rejected all candidates who were branded as “Kennedy candidates” and voted for students they believed would best advance the course of the NPP on campus, without being influenced by external pressure.

Meanwhile, some TESCON students of AAMUSTED have expressed disappointment over the involvement of Team Kennedy in their elections.

According to the students, TESCON elections on campus are always a family affair, with students voting to select some amongst them to lead the advancement of the NPP, for a common goal.

“We are one people with a common goal. What happened was unfortunate. To have high ranking officials of our party on campus campaigning for some candidates was really divisive,” one of the students said.

“Some of the candidates were portrayed as belonging to a certain camp and we were urged not to vote for them. I found that very divisive because we are all NPP members and this is a local students affairs to elect our own leaders. We are here and we know what we want and what will help out party. I am happy the results showed clearly that we cannot be manipulated,” another student said.

“We have made our choice and rejected external influence. And all of us here, TESCON members, including those who were not selected, will come together and work for our party,” the student added.

Eyewitness details how Liverpool fan racially abused Semenyo step by step

0

Antoine Semenyo is a player of Bournemouth and Black Stars forward Antoine Semenyo is a player of Bournemouth and Black Stars forward

An eyewitness has given a step by step account of how a Liverpool supporter racially abused Black Stars forward, Antoine Semenyo, on the opening day of the opening day of the new Premier League season.

Liverpool defeated Bournemouth 4-2 on Friday, August 15, 2025, but their victory was marred by their supporter who decided to racially abuse the Ghanaian striker 30 minutes into the game.

In the viral video circulating on social media, the Black Stars forward, who was preparing for a throw-in, was racially abused by a Liverpool supporter, leading to the temporal suspension of the game by the referee.

After the game, another Liverpool supporter, identified as Nick Collins, who was sitting very close to where the incident happened. took to social media to give a step by step account of how everything unfolded.

‘We stand with Antoine Semenyo’ – Liverpool offers support to Ghana striker after racial abuse at Anfield

Below is the detailed explanation:

I’ll go into the details on tonight as I have hundreds of replies to my earlier post and there’s no point replying to them all.

So this fella has had his season ticket for many years at Anfield. He’s passionate but often takes things way too far but it is what it is. He has crossed the line before by throwing stuff at officials (usually chewing gum) and stewards looked embarrassed rather than do anything.

So, I guess that’s allowed his behaviour to escalate maybe in his brain.

About 28 mins into the game, Semenyo goes to take a throw in. He’s not a player that goads the fans and seems like a decent lad. The sort of player that people want playing for their club.

For reasons I’ll never know, the fella near me in bay 7 (I’m bay 9) decides to go over to him in his wheelchair and shouts something at Semenyo. Semenyo then asks him to repeat it and he repeated it and threw his chewing gum at him.

Then 2 mins later the play is stopped. The fella next to me says he hopes Mark hasn’t said anything racist to Semenyo but then I’m getting texts from people saying it’s about the fan in the wheelchair allegedly abusing Semenyo.

We missed the first goal because all of us were uncomfortable being around this guy, who’s now sat in silence, probably realising what he’s done and he’s soon to be in the shit.

We didn’t want him near us and people (including myself) were calling him a racist prick. It was just uncomfortable to be around and we wanted him gone. The stewards didn’t have a clue what was going on either.

He was eventually removed from the ground at 21:01 by police. Firstly saying he’d refuse to move and wouldn’t leave but then agreeing to leave, then kicking off. I’d gone to the toilet by this point but saw him kicking off near the exit.

I believe there is some kind of protocol where the police have to remove them and not stewards and they have to get a sort of investigation going first. That’s why it took them 30 mins to get him out of the ground.

So the club now have to help the police with an investigation and rightly so. If he’s found to have racially abused Semenyo, he needs to be banned for life. No excuses.

Another fan chimed in saying “Semenyo didn’t look upset” so sorta sticking up for the abuser or playing devils advocate. But he just looked shocked to me, which is probably why he asked him to repeat himself.

So props to Semenyo for having the brilliant game he had. All 3 goalscorers were black, which was quite fitting really. The irony is, the fella had a “no room for racism” badge on his shirt.

I think at the time, it was annoying that we had to be around the prick but I think the club acted as fast as they could. I believe stewards can eject fans if they personally hear abuse but otherwise a report needs to be made for it to happen.

On the flip side of this, look at the amount of disability abuse there is in response to this. Discrimination is discrimination, so if you’re making your “edgy jokes” about disability on the back of it, you’re just as bad.

I’ve cropped his face out for obvious reasons but it’s incredibly ironic to have that badge on you and then do something like that. There’s obviously going to be a legal process ongoing now. The head steward asked us all a few questions and everyone was helpful.

Proud of the way the club acted in response to one prick. Anfield is a very welcoming place to people from all walks of life. Let’s keep it that way.

I Talked About His Settings Lifestyle Before Things Unfolded – Stonebwoy

0

According to a report by Ghanaweb, in the wake of recent developments surrounding the Shatta Wale and EOCO saga, renowned Ghanaian artist Stonebwoy has shared his thoughts on the situation, emphasizing his prior concerns about Shatta Wale’s lifestyle choices.

The unfolding events have reignited discussions about the pressures faced by artists in the entertainment industry and the importance of making sound decisions.

The ongoing saga involving Shatta Wale and the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) has captured significant attention in Ghana.

The situation escalated when EOCO reportedly began investigations into Shatta Wale’s activities, raising questions about his financial dealings and the broader implications for the music industry.

As the story developed, it became evident that the challenges faced by Shatta Wale extended beyond mere legal troubles.

Stonebwoy, a fellow artist and sometimes rival, expressed his thoughts during a recent interview.

He revealed that he had previously spoken about Shatta Wale’s lifestyle, hinting at concerns over the choices made by his colleague.

Stonebwoy described Shatta Wale’s “settings” lifestyle, which he characterized as extravagant and potentially unsustainable.

“I had a conversation about his lifestyle before all of this unfolded,” Stonebwoy stated. “As artists, we often find ourselves in the spotlight, and sometimes the pressure can lead to decisions that may not be in our best interest.”

The pressures of fame in the entertainment industry can be overwhelming. Artists often face scrutiny from fans, media, and the public, which can influence their behavior and lifestyle choices.

Stonebwoy emphasized the importance of surrounding oneself with positive influences and making choices that support long-term well-being.

“We need to be vigilant about the paths we take,” he continued. “It’s crucial for us as artists to prioritize our mental health and make decisions that align with our values.”

Despite the competitive nature of the music industry, Stonebwoy expressed solidarity with Shatta Wale during this challenging time.

He highlighted the importance of supporting one another, especially in moments of adversity.

“At the end of the day, we are all in this together,” he remarked. “We should uplift each other instead of tearing each other down.”

Stonebwoy’s comments have sparked conversations about the responsibilities of artists and the need for accountability within the industry.

As public figures, musicians wield significant influence over their fans and communities.

This influence comes with a responsibility to model positive behavior and make choices that reflect their values.

The Shatta Wale saga serves as a reminder of the potential consequences of lifestyle choices and the importance of prioritizing one’s well-being.

Stonebwoy’s reflections highlight the need for artists to engage in open discussions about the challenges they face and the impact of their decisions.

As the situation with Shatta Wale continues to unfold, fans and industry observers will be keenly watching for developments.

Stonebwoy’s insights offer valuable lessons for both artists and their supporters.

The importance of making informed choices, prioritizing mental health, and fostering a supportive community cannot be overstated.

In conclusion, Stonebwoy’s reflections on Shatta Wale’s lifestyle amid the EOCO saga underscore the complexities of fame in the entertainment industry.

As artists navigate the pressures of success, it is essential to prioritize well-being and make choices that positively impact their lives and careers.

The music industry is not only a platform for creativity but also a space where accountability and mutual support can thrive, fostering a culture of resilience and growth.

As the story continues to develop, the industry and its stakeholders must remain vigilant in promoting positive change and supporting one another.

A Blend of Culture and Charm

In recent years, Ankara flare gown styles for children have grown immensely popular, echoing a wider embrace of African prints in modern fashion. With their vibrant colors, bold patterns, and cultural richness, these gowns are not just clothing pieces—they’re expressions of heritage, style, and joy.

The Allure of Ankara for Kids

Ankara fabric, known for its colorful and intricate designs, has long been a staple in African fashion. When tailored into flare gowns for children, the result is a delightful mix of elegance and playfulness. The flare silhouette—characterized by a fitted bodice and a wide, flowing skirt—is perfect for little girls who enjoy twirling, running, and celebrating in style.

“Children should be able to express themselves freely, and fashion is one of the ways they do that. Ankara flare gowns provide that opportunity, while also connecting them to their roots,” says Nigerian children’s fashion designer Temi Adeoye.

Perfect for Every Occasion

One of the reasons Ankara flare gowns are such a hit among parents is their incredible versatility. They’re suitable for:

  • Birthday parties
  • Weddings and traditional ceremonies
  • Religious services
  • Cultural festivals
  • School events or photo days

Designs can range from simple and casual to extravagant and formal. Some popular elements include puff sleeves, ruffled or layered skirts, lace details, and accessories like matching headbands or belts. This adaptability allows families to dress their children in a way that feels special yet culturally grounded.

Comfort Meets Durability

Comfort is key when dressing children, and Ankara delivers on this front. The fabric, typically cotton-based, is breathable and soft on the skin—ideal for warm climates and active lifestyles. The wide-cut skirts also allow ease of movement, making it easier for kids to run, dance, and play without restrictions.

Parents also appreciate the longevity of Ankara materials. The fabric holds up well to washing and wear, meaning these dresses often outlast seasonal trends and can even be handed down to younger siblings.

More Than Fashion: A Cultural Statement

Ankara gowns go beyond fashion—they serve as a visual reminder of heritage and identity. Dressing children in these pieces from a young age fosters a connection to their cultural background. It sends a message of pride, creativity, and continuity.

“In a world where Western styles often dominate, it’s powerful to see children confidently wearing African prints. It says, ‘I know where I come from, and I’m proud of it,’” adds cultural fashion enthusiast Aisha Mensah.

Final Thoughts

Ankara flare gowns for children are a joyful marriage of tradition, beauty, and practicality. As more designers innovate with kid-friendly styles, and as families seek meaningful ways to celebrate culture through fashion, it’s clear that these gowns are here to stay. Whether worn for a special occasion or just for fun, they make every little girl feel special—and connected to something bigger than herself.

Advocacy Group Demands “War Footing” Against Illegal Mining After Ghana Crash

Galamsey Threat
Galamsey Threat

The Let Truth Be Told Alliance (LTBTA) has issued a searing condemnation of illegal mining following the August 6 helicopter crash that killed eight officials, including two ministers.

In a statement titled “Galamsey: A Cruel Menace,” the group linked the tragedy directly to Ghana’s struggle against destructive illegal mining, noting the victims were en route to an anti-galamsey event in Obuasi.

“Their lives were cut short by the very scourge they sought to eradicate,” the statement declared, calling the crash a “damning indictment” of galamsey’s environmental and human toll. The group drew parallels to the 2017 murder of Major Maxwell Mahama, also tied to illegal mining operations, demanding a state of emergency against the practice.

LTBTA proposed a six-point action plan: intensified military-led crackdowns, life sentences for mining kingpins, citizen whistleblowing with protections, forced environmental restoration by convicted financiers, empowerment of traditional rulers, and deployment of surveillance tech and undercover agents. “Galamsey is national sabotage,” they asserted. “Crush it with the full force of law.”

The statement framed the ministers’ deaths as a call to arms: “Their mission must become our mission.” While investigators probe the crash’s exact cause, the group insists deforested, unstable terrains from illegal mining create inherently hazardous conditions.

The Ghana Football Association has released a statement in solidarity with Black Stars forward, Antoine Semenyo, who suffered racial abuse at the hands of a Liverpool supporter on the opening day of the 2025/2026 Premier League.

Liverpool defeated Bournemouth 4-2 on Friday, August 15, 2025, but their victory was marred by their supporter who decided to racially abuse the Ghanaian striker 30 minutes into the game.

The Black Stars forward, who was preparing for a throw-in, was racially abused by a Liverpool supporter, leading to the temporal suspension of the game by the referee.

Reacting to the distasteful incident, the GFA condemned the act, while commending Semenyo who scored two goals on the night for showing strength in the face of provocation.

“We stand firmly with our Black Stars forward, Antoine Semenyo, following the racial abuse he suffered at Anfield.

“In the face of provocation, Antoine showed strength, grace, and unity. On the pitch, he scored twice; off it, he reminded us of what football truly represents — respect, solidarity, and love for the beautiful game. We are proud of you, Antoine. We stand with you,” the statement from the Ghana Football Association read.

FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, also condemned the act and stressed that racism or any form of discrimination has no place in football.

“Everyone at FIFA, The Players’ Voice Panel, and the entire football community stands firmly with Antoine.

“We will continue to offer our full support to him, to Bournemouth, the Premier League, and The FA. Strong deterrents must be in place, and meaningful action must follow, to eliminate racism and discrimination from our game,” Infantino said.

Liverpool Captain, Virgil van Dijk, also condemned the racial abuse aimed at Antoine Semenyo and offered support to the striker.

CEO of the Premier League, Richard Masters, also added that; “No Premier League footballer should ever have to, in their workplace or online, suffer that sort of abuse. It is important that we keep saying that.

“It is a problem for society. It leaks into football, and it shouldn’t happen in a football stadium. It shouldn’t happen online.”

He made the comments in an interview with the BBC.

A family at war and accusations of poisoning leave tycoon’s body in limbo for 12 years

0

A Kenyan magistrate this week expressed the hope that a British property tycoon would finally “find rest in eternal peace”, after his body had spent 11 years in a mortuary.

But this week’s conclusion to the decade-long inquest into Harry Roy Veevers’ death in 2013 still leaves many questions unanswered.

It was a case that involved accusations of murder by poisoning, rancorous legal proceedings, the exhumation of a body after almost a year and ultimately divided four siblings – two sons from his first marriage and two daughters from the second.

In one hearing, the sisters, Hellen and Alexandra, were reprimanded by the magistrate for shouting out that a witness was lying and threatened with spending time in a cell, reports said.

In another, Hellen Veevers emerged from the courthouse with a message she had written on her vest-top: “My daddy was not murdered.”

Despite the lengthy inquest into the death of the wealthy 64-year-old, the magistrate, David Odhiambo, found that the cause of death could not be determined “due to the level of [the body’s] decomposition” after spending so long underground. He ordered that the corpse be released to the family for reburial at a place of their choice.

An unsatisfactory ending that could lead to further disputes. Lawyers for both sides told the BBC they were considering their next steps.

“When you have a family split down the middle, how does the court say the remains should be released to the family, when both sides have been fighting since 2013?” said Francis Kinyua Kamundi, representing Mr Veevers’ sons, Richard and Philip.

From the start of his detailed 95-page ruling, the magistrate acknowledged the deeply entrenched feud between the family members.

“Although the death of a loved one often brings survivors closer through the inevitable grieving,” he wrote, “The emotions associated with death can also tear survivors apart”.

This was definitely a case of the latter.

“What happened soon after his burial tore the family apart and marked the beginning of a legal drama,” according to Mr Odhiambo.

On one side of the case were the sons and on the other were Mr Veevers’ second wife, Azra Parvin Din, along with their daughters.

The children were living in the UK, while their father and Ms Parvin Din, who had been together for more than 30 years, were living on the Kenyan coast.

The family feud started after his death on Valentine’s Day 2013, at his home in Mombasa where he had long settled and had an extensive property portfolio. The children then travelled to Kenya.

The drama began the moment they arrived.

It was Saturday 16 February, a day before the burial.

According to Richard Veevers’ court testimony, Ms Parvin Din was agitated when questioned about the deceased. His brother Philip also told the court that she had initially refused his request to view his father’s body.

Ms Parvin Din said he had died of a heart attack.

When they finally saw their father the following day, Richard said he “noticed redness in the face and the lips were purple and pink”, according to the magistrate’s summary.

Tensions seemed to escalate over Ms Parvin Din and her daughters’ reactions to the photos that Philip had taken of the body – including demands that he should delete them, the brothers said.

In the magistrate’s ruling, he said Alexandra Veevers had testified that “she did not see any marks on her father’s body… and that she only saw the face since the body was wrapped in a cloth… She stated that they asked for the videos and pictures but Richard and Philip refused to give them out and she didn’t understand why they did not want to share the photos”.

Mr Veevers was buried shortly afterwards without a post-mortem or police involvement.

It was Ms Parvin Din’s “decision that the deceased should be buried without post-mortem and did not consult anyone,” the court ruling said. Nor did she inform the police about the death, stating that she was not aware that she had to report it.

The Islamic burial, done quickly according to tradition, further raised suspicions from his sons, who said their father was not Muslim and had been buried under a false name.

According to the court documents, Richard Veevers “questioned why their father was being buried as a Muslim yet he was a Christian and he was told that if buried in an open cemetery, people would dig him up and steal gold from his body”.

Ms Parvin Din testified that Mr Veevers had converted to Islam.

The brothers also accused Ms Parvin Din and her daughters of poisoning their father, so that they could inherit his multimillion-dollar portfolio – which they vehemently denied. A further complication is that there does not appear to have been a will.

Unconvinced by the circumstances surrounding his death, the sons filed an application for the exhumation of their father’s body and a formal investigation into the cause of death.

A court order for exhumation was granted on 28 April 2013. However, the body was not dug up until 31 January 2014 – more than nine months later.

The lawyer representing the sons has blamed the delay on the opposing side, citing repeated “frustrations” that stalled the process.

By the time the exhumation could happen, the body had significantly decomposed.

In the final ruling this week, the magistrate said that “due to the level of its decomposition” at the time of exhumation, it was too hard to say what had led to his death.

“The cause of death of the deceased remains unknown and as such nobody can be called to answer to any charge,” he said.

Over the years, the case has passed through the hands of numerous magistrates and judges, all trying to weave through the haze of unanswered questions and delays, to find the elusive truth.

The magistrate, Mr Odhiambo, noted that when it first began, he was just starting out his legal practice and would read about it in the newspapers, with “no idea that almost a decade later I would be presiding over the case”.

In January last year, the inquest had neared its end – after years of hearings, a magistrate ruled that Mr Veevers’ death was not suspicious.

However, it was soon reopened after his sons successfully challenged the ruling at the High Court. Citing irregular procedures it referred the case back to a magistrates’ court, allowing them to submit new evidence.

Mr Odhiambo highlighted other issues that plagued the “convoluted case,” including conflicting forensic reports submitted by different pathologists.

One pathologist had traced a “highly toxic substance”, cyhalothrin, on both the body’s remains and the soil where his body was exhumed.

But the magistrate noted that this evidence had been called into question as samples had reached the UK four months after exhumation and they were not in the containers they had originally been packed in. Two other pathologists in the case did not find any traces of the toxic substance in their samples.

“The experts showed to us that there could be different interpretations about a subject [such] that the lay person is left wondering what to believe,” Mr Odhiambo said.

He said a lot of things had happened soon after Mr Veevers’ death, but it was not possible to determine whether the “acts of commission and omission” by different parties in the case could be tied to the cause of death.

He suggested that the parties ought to have handled the matter differently.

The doctor who first attended to Mr Veevers should have advised Ms Parvin Din to report the death to the authorities and insisted on a post-mortem, he said.

Dr Salim Omar’s failure to do so, he observed, had contributed to the suspicions surrounding the circumstances of the death. The doctor has since faced disciplinary action from the medical regulatory body for his handling of the matter.

As for Ms Parvin Din, the magistrate said, nothing she had done or not done was enough to find her responsible for Mr Veevers’ death.

And yet, despite the finality of the ruling, the end result is a body that has remained in a mortuary for more than 11 years is still suspended in legal uncertainty, caught between siblings with irreconcilable wishes.

It is not a choice either side would willingly make.

The sons have all along argued that their father was a British citizen and should be buried in the UK, while his second wife and her daughters have wanted him to be reburied in Kenya.

The court acknowledged that determining Mr Veevers’ final resting place was “nerve-racking” because of the absence of formal legislative provisions to guide burial disputes in Kenya.

It was also a “tough” decision because Mr Veevers did not ascribe to a specific custom, and no will had been presented to show that he wished “to exit the world in a certain way”.

Nor was there any evidence to “show that he had a sour relationship with any of his close family members so as to exclude anyone from claiming his body”.

The magistrate stated that he would not wish to interfere with who would be given the body but urged them to seek legal redress from another forum. He also noted that the dispute over inheritance was still pending in another court.

Mr Veevers’ long wait for “eternal peace” will not be over any time soon.

Forensic Analyst justifies cocoa sack transport of crash victims – Citinewsroom – Comprehensive News in Ghana

0

Forensic medical scientist and security intelligence researcher, Lawrence Kofi Acheampong, has explained that the use of cocoa sacks in transporting victims of the August 6 helicopter crash was consistent with accepted disaster response practices under certain circumstances.

His comments come after the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) faced public criticism when videos emerged showing charred remains of victims being carried in sacks instead of body bags. The crash claimed eight lives, including three service members.

The GAF, in a statement on August 13, rejected claims that body bags were unavailable at the scene. According to the military, the remains were severely charred, making the use of standard body bags impractical at the time. They explained that sacks were used to secure the remains in line with the conditions they encountered.

Speaking on The Big Issue on Channel One TV on Saturday, August 16, Mr. Acheampong stressed that disaster recovery operations must always be adapted to specific contexts.

“When it is issued for the investigation to be done, the way the human remains are collected is very important, and every disaster has different contexts, and we approach it differently,” he said.

He noted that while international guidelines allow room for improvisation, cultural and religious sensitivities must also be taken into account.

According to him, the decision to use sacks may have been part of what is termed a “wet transfer,” a procedure designed to transport human remains over long distances without further compromising their condition.

“I am sure that those who got there first wanted to achieve the wet transfer… That is a right principle,” Mr. Acheampong explained, adding that measures must also be in place to prevent decomposition during such transfers.

Mr. Acheampong’s remarks add a technical perspective to the ongoing debate over how the victims of the crash were handled, highlighting the balance between international best practices, operational challenges, and cultural considerations in disaster management.

Wassa East MP Isaac Adjei Mensah has lauded Ghanaians for setting aside political differences during state funeral rites honoring victims of the August 6 helicopter tragedy.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue Saturday, the lawmaker highlighted rare national unity across regional and partisan lines.

“North, East, South, and West—we all came together in this mourning,” Mensah reflected. He attended both the Black Star Square state funeral August 15 and burials at Tse Addo Military Cemetery, noting President Mahama’s leadership ensured dignified, apolitical ceremonies. “The president provided the direction, and everybody can bet politics stayed out,” he emphasized.

Mensah expressed hope the collective grieving process would offer solace to bereaved families and the nation. “We hope this closure takes effect,” he added, calling the moment a testament to Ghana’s shared humanity beyond divisions.

Satirist KSM Demands Facts Over Prophecies in Ghana Crash Probe

Veteran commentator Kwaku Sintim-Misa (KSM) has urged Ghanaians to await forensic findings on the August 6 helicopter crash, pushing back against parliamentary Speaker Alban Bagbin’s recent endorsement of prophetic warnings.

In a new YouTube episode, the satirist emphasized international experts are analyzing the wreckage to determine if mechanical, technical, or human error caused the tragedy that killed eight officials.

“Very soon what went wrong will come out for all Ghana to see,” KSM stated. “Hopefully, talk about ‘why did God do that’ will stop.”

He referenced his earlier arguments against attributing disasters to divine will, directly countering Bagbin’s call for citizens not to dismiss prophecies. The Speaker had recently asserted “not all [prophets] are looking for money” when urging seriousness about spiritual warnings.

KSM maintained that evidence, not speculation, should guide the national conversation once investigators release their report. His stance highlights a growing tension between Ghana’s rationalist and faith-based responses to the catastrophe as the nation seeks closure.

  • John Alan Kyerematen has confirmed he will contest the 2028 presidential elections under the Movement for Change
  • He believes his experience, vision, and global network uniquely position him to lead Ghana to prosperity
  • Kyerematen left the NPP after accusing the party of favouring Dr Bawumia in the 2024 flagbearership race

The founder of the Movement for Change, John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, has declared his intentions to contest the 2028 presidential elections.

Speaking to Pena Genius TV, Mr Kyerematen confirmed that he will definitely be on the ballot for the forthcoming presidential elections in 2028.

Explaining why he wants to be Ghana’s next head of state, the leader of the Movement for Change said he possesses the requisite experience, knowledge and global connections to transform the country.

“Yes, definitely, I can put out that I will run again. The Almighty God has the final say; we always succumb to His will. But be that as it may, that is my interest and desire because I believe the country will greatly benefit from my experience, exposure, my global network, and my vision, particularly for Africa. So, I am not done yet,” he said.

Mr Kyerematen was a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and served under President Akufo-Addo as the Minister for Trade and Industry between 2017 and 2023.

He held the same portfolio during the NPP’s first stint in office during the administration of former President John Agyekum Kufuor between 2001 and 2007.

However, in the lead-up to the 2024 presidential elections, Alan Kyerematen had a fallout with the leadership of the NPP after losing the flagbearer race to then Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

He accused the NPP of manipulating the electoral process to favour Dr Bawumia in the presidential primary held in November 2023.

Consequently, Mr Kyerematen left the party to form the Movement for Change. Prior to taking this action, he had previously left the NPP in 2007 after losing the flagbearer race to then candidate Nana Akufo-Addo.

In the 2024 elections, Alan Kyerematen ran for office as an independent candidate despite forming the Movement for Change.NPP grants amnesty to suspended members.

Why the Denim Skirt Is Still a Summer Power Piece—and How to Wear It Now

0

When it comes to wardrobe staples that truly transcend trends, the denim skirt stands tall. It’s one of those rare fashion items that manages to walk the line between casual comfort and effortless sophistication. Whether you’re dressing for brunch, a spontaneous day out, or a night on the town, the denim skirt delivers—season after season.

“The best pieces in your closet are the ones that evolve with you,” says style blogger and fashion consultant Liana James.
“And the denim skirt is definitely one of those chameleons.”

The Romantic Twist: Pair with Statement Tops

Give your denim skirt a soft, feminine edge by teaming it with standout blouses. Think voluminous sleeves, delicate lace, or florals that add romantic flair. This pairing works especially well for daytime events—garden parties, coffee dates, or weekend markets—where you want to look polished but relaxed.

Double Denim, Refreshed

Yes, denim-on-denim is back—but not the awkward kind from the early 2000s. The modern take involves mixing washes or textures: a cropped denim jacket over a mid-wash skirt, or a chambray shirt tucked into a darker high-waisted cut. Add sleek, minimal accessories (like neutral sandals or a leather crossbody) to keep the look sharp, not sloppy.

Off-Duty Athleisure

For casual days, nothing beats the cool-girl combo of a denim mini with a cropped tank and clean white sneakers. Toss on a baseball cap, sling on a canvas tote, and you’ve nailed the sporty-chic vibe. It’s the kind of outfit you can throw on in minutes and still look put-together while running errands or grabbing a smoothie.

Dress It Up for Evenings

Who said denim can’t be glam? Dress up your skirt for a night out by pairing it with a silky camisole, strappy heels, and bold jewelry. A sleek clutch and red lips elevate the look even further. The juxtaposition of laid-back denim with luxe fabrics is what makes this combo so striking.

Light Layers, Bold Statements

Layering during the warmer months may sound counterintuitive, but it’s all about the fabric choice. Lightweight kimonos, sheer dusters, or mesh cardigans can add visual interest without overheating. Go for bold prints or colors to create contrast and dimension against the simplicity of denim.

Vulnerable mothers remain in wards over unsettled bills – Citinewsroom – Comprehensive News in Ghana

Several vulnerable mothers remain stranded in maternal wards after delivering their babies due to their inability to settle their medical bills.

The long weeks of detention are always accompanied by harsh conditions.

“The patients mostly from rural communities, are unable to settle their bills. Sometimes we- medical staff- have to step in to support or mobilise funds from benevolent people to settle their bills,” a midwife at the Gomoa Oguaa Clinic, Kemor Mathilda, told Citi News.

At the labour ward of the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba, Philippa Asante, a mother, remained in detention several weeks after delivering her baby because she could not raise funds to settle her entire medical bills, which swelled beyond her ability as a result of liver disease.

“I have been here for several weeks after giving birth. I am struggling to pay my bills because I have another condition- a liver disease. I am only supported by other patients who are also in the ward and solely rely on the lunch offered by the hospital,” she told Citi News.

Though Ghana is running the free maternal health policy, some basic necessities and birth complications are not covered by the policy.

In the Central Region, some benevolent non-governmental organisations provide occasional support to patients in randomly selected health facilities.

Founder of one of such foundations, Selassie Doughan, following donations to patients at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba, Gomoa Oguaa Clinic, Gomoa Enyame, Gomoa Tarkwa and Gomoa Ehyiam CHPs compounds, suggested a review of the free maternal care policy.

“The policy is actually supporting mothers, but I am strongly convinced that it needs a review. It must cover every cost of labour and delivery. But while we wait on the government’s consideration of this suggestion, we’ll keep supporting mothers,” she told Citi News.

ASA organises medical screening for Dome residents – Citinewsroom – Comprehensive News in Ghana

0

More than 150 residents of Dome, including the aged, young adults and children, have benefited from a free medical and eye screening exercise organised by ASA Savings and Loans at the Dome Park.

The screening, which targeted conditions such as malaria, diabetes, hepatitis B and blood pressure, also included checks for eye allergies, particularly conjunctivitis. Critical cases were referred for further treatment, while treated mosquito nets and medications were distributed to participants.

The initiative, held ahead of this year’s Homowo festival, forms part of ASA’s corporate social responsibility drive.

Team Lead from the Modern Care Hospital, Gershon Boateng, advised residents to adopt healthy lifestyles, including regular exercise, balanced diets, and increased intake of fruits and water to boost immunity.

ASA’s Sustainability Manager, Richard Nartey, who supervised the exercise, expressed delight at the turnout and assured residents of the company’s continued support. He further encouraged participants to prioritise regular health checks.

One of the beneficiaries, Joyce Afedi, commended ASA and the medical team for organising what she described as a timely and impactful intervention.

Former Minister Condemns Political Protection of Offensive Remarks

0

NPP and NDC

Ex-Deputy Health Minister Alexander Abban has slammed Ghana’s political establishment for shielding inflammatory conduct, warning such practices undermine the rule of law.

Speaking on Asaase Radio’s The Forum Saturday, Abban reacted to recent arrests of social commentators Sir Obama-Pokuase, Akyenkwaa Nana Kofi Asare, and activist Fante Comedy over offensive statements.

“The politicians are quick to rise to the defence of irresponsible talk to keep their party bases loyal,” Abban declared. “We must stop glorifying nonsense and let people see crime as crime.”

He argued both ruling and opposition parties routinely politicize criminal acts, turning serious matters into partisan battles. When arrests occur, supporters often rally behind accused figures without examining the allegations.

Abban warned this cycle encourages others to push boundaries, knowing parties will protect them. “In Ghana, if you want your case dismissed quickly, just politicize it,” he remarked bluntly.

He urged leaders to allow impartial legal proceedings and demanded governments discipline their own members who cross lines. “Those in power must stop shielding offenders and bring them to book,” he insisted, stressing that selective accountability erodes public trust in institutions.

NCA to develop a national emergency telecommunications plan against disasters

The National Communications says it will develop the plan against disasters The National Communications says it will develop the plan against disasters

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has initiated processes to develop a national emergency telecommunications plan to improve Ghana’s disaster preparedness and response capabilities.

The Director General of the NCA, Rev Ing Edmund Fianko, said it is imperative to be proactive in handling disasters and unexpected occurrences.

He bemoaned the current state of the country’s emergency response infrastructure.

“It is sad that we do not take our emergencies seriously. It is therefore imperative that prompt communication in response to changing weather conditions and other natural hazards be viewed as critical, as has been seen in recent times. The NCA pledges its full support to ensure that our communications infrastructure is ready during emergencies,” he said, as quoted by Norvan Reports.

Rev Fianko disclosed that the authority is planning to establish an amateur radio station and alternative communication mechanisms to ensure reliable connectivity during seismological and other disaster-related events.

Sam George explains MultiChoice impasse amid suspension calls

In this regard, the authority held a high-level engagement with representatives from ministries, sector agencies, mobile network operators, and the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications on August 11, 2025, at the NCA Tower in Accra.

It said the plan “will integrate early warning systems into Ghana’s national emergency strategy, ensuring timely and reliable communication before, during, and after disasters. It will be anchored on four key pillars – Monitoring and Evaluation, Disaster Preparedness, Response and Relief, and Communication Systems.”

Watch how Real Betis’ Villamarin glows when daylight fades

The Estadio Benito Villamarin at sunset The Estadio Benito Villamarin at sunset

As the sunset paints its skies in shades of amber and coral, Real Betis’ iconic home, the Estadio Benito Villamarin, transforms into a mesmerising portrait of serenity and spectacle.

The fading light casts a warm glow across the terraces, turning the stadium into a visual symphony of colour and atmosphere.

Located in the Heliópolis district of Seville, the Villamarín has been the heartbeat of Real Betis since its inauguration in 1929.

It currently boasts a capacity of 60,721 spectators, ranking among Spain’s largest football venues.

Its storied past includes renovations in 1982, 2000, and most recently 2017, when the southern stand was expanded, raising capacity and modernising its structure while preserving its historic essence.

‘I feel he’s Brazilian’ – Richarlison hails Kudus’ samba style after Spurs win

But beyond capacity lies its soul, an electric ambiance fuelled by the passionate chants of the “Béticos.” Few can replicate the intensity of matchday atmosphere generated within these green-and-white walls, especially when the sun dips low.

The Villamarin is more than a stadium; it’s a community hub. Tours invite fans to explore its rich legacy, while sustainable upgrades, such as new LED lighting and even solar panels, ensure that its beauty is both dynamic and eco-conscious.

Now, with redevelopment plans underway, including demolition and rebuilding of the Preferencia Stand, Betis is gearing up to enhance fan comfort further with new hospitality zones, rooftop lounges, and multifunctional spaces.

Yet, even as these modern touches arise, nothing quite matches the romance of watching Heliópolis bathed in twilight.

2026 budget will focus on jobs – Deputy finance minister

0

Thomas Nyarko Ampem is the Deputy Minister of Finance Thomas Nyarko Ampem is the Deputy Minister of Finance

The Deputy Minister of Finance, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, has expressed optimism about the country’s economic future, highlighting the government’s focus on creating decent jobs for Ghanaians through private sector participation.

He said the 2026 budget would prioritise funding to various job creation initiatives such as National Apprenticeship, One Million Coders and Edwumawura programme, and provide an enabling environment for the private sector to thrive and spearhead job creation efforts.

He said this at the launch of the World Bank’s ninth Ghana Economic update held in Accra, on the theme: “Addressing labour market challenges and opportunities in Ghana’s economic landscape.”

The report said Ghana’s strong economic growth had not translated into decent job creation due to a shift from agriculture to high-earning industry and services sectors, rural-urban drift and workers seeking more education.

The decline in participation between 2012 and 2022 saw real wages stagnate, with a marginal decline by three per cent, as those who moved between jobs remained stuck in low-productivity, low-paying, and insecure jobs, with low participation rates largely among the youth.

As a result of the jobs shortage, masked by significant outmigration of youth, about one million youth are estimated to live abroad, the World Bank report observed.

While acknowledging the challenges, Ampem Nyarko was confident about the three key initiatives helping to reduce unemployment, particularly with a strong private sector participation.

“The government plans to invest about GH¢564 billion in these three interventions in 2025. In addition, the government is also investing about GH¢410 million through the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme to unlock the creative energies of the Ghanaian youth,” he said.

The programmes would provide hands-on training and skills development for young Ghanaians, equip them with coding skills to meet the demands of the digital economy, and support entrepreneurs.

“Since January 2025, the government has focused on restoring macroeconomic stability, as well as trying to keep job creation sectors, including the financial and energy sectors,” the finance minister said.

He added that the Big Push for infrastructure, Agriculture for Economic Transformation 24-hour economy initiatives would also help accelerate the indirect job creation to address the national skills and job challenge.

Ampem Nyarko said the government would include recommendations from the World Bank report, as well as solutions provided by economic watchers and other stakeholders, in the 2026 budget to aid in addressing Ghana’s unemployment challenge.

Robert Taliercio, the World Bank’s Division Director for Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, expressed the Bank’s support for the government’s efforts, emphasising the need for a sound macroeconomic environment to drive job creation.

“The World Bank stands ready to support the government in implementing programmes in the 2026 budget that will increase job creation in the country,” he said.

He urged the government to strengthen accountability in key sectors, such as energy and agriculture, to ensure sustainable economic growth.

He also encouraged the government to improve inter-ministerial coordination, design and implement a holistic economic approach targeted at improving key sectors, particularly the agro-processing value chain and facilitate school-to-work transitions.

“I have corrected my mistakes. I am bringing something new and explosive. My fans worldwide will see,” he responded, thanking supporters across the globe.

Beyond the main event, SEM announced two landmark signings. Edward Coleman, representing SEM, confirmed a three-year deal with reigning national Super Welterweight champion Musah Rahman Lawson (Awoodade) and 13-year-old juvenile prospect Benjamin Ankrah.

The contract includes scholarships, welfare packages and educational support, ensuring development both inside and outside the ring.

Coleman emphasised SEM’s broader vision, “This package covers advertising and managing them to become international champions.”

Lawson expressed optimism that the deal will propel him onto the global stage.

“This is my ladder to the top ranks in the WBC, WBA, IBF, and WBO,” he affirmed.

The September 12 card also features other big names, including Daniel “Emperor” Gorsh and John “Expensive Boxer” Laryea from Bronx Boxing Club.
