“Please My Lord, I Don’t Have Evidence To What I Said Against Mahama” — Wontumi Presenter Admit

0

A shocking allegation has rocked the nation as unnamed sources point fingers at the President regarding a recent deadly helicopter crash. The claims, broadcasted on television, have sparked a fiery debate, with critics demanding evidence under the legal principle, “Who alleges must prove it.” Meanwhile, security proceedings have taken a dramatic turn, with suspects remanded for 100,000 to 150,000 bail, raising questions about human rights and national security.

The controversy deepened when Captain Smart, a prominent media figure, challenged the President directly, asking, *”How are you going to eliminate the president of the land?”* The discussion quickly shifted to political tensions, with critics arguing that nation-building, not party loyalty, should be the priority. Amidst the chaos, a mysterious reference to a *”China one day minority reporter”* and a staggering claim of 1,500 deaths added another layer of intrigue.

Ghana’s Armed Forces and National Security have been dragged into the fray, with demands for daily updates and concrete evidence. A key figure allegedly linked to the crash is under scrutiny, with some urging investigators to *”go straight to that person.”* As accusations fly, the President’s supporters dismiss the claims as baseless, while opposition voices insist on accountability.

The nation remains on edge, awaiting clarity on whether these allegations are politically motivated or grounded in truth. With tensions escalating, Ghanaians are left wondering: Who is truly responsible for this tragedy?

Sir Obama’s continuous detention confirms his arrest was because of his criticism of IGP – Akbar

Some leading members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) suspect foul play in the decision to keep Sir Obama Pokuase in police custody even though he has met all bail conditions.

Asanteman in deep mourning: Fare thee well Asantehemaa

0

Last week, nation Ghana was virtually plunged into shock and dismay, mourning the sudden passing of eight gallant heroes.

They had perished in a devastating helicopter crash in their line of duty.

This week, the kingdom of Ashanti, Asanteman, has officially been notified of the passing of the queenmother of Ashanti, Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III. Kumasi and all the towns and villages in the kingdom have been thrown into a state of mourning with a tinge of black in their dressing to mourn with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene.

An older blood sister of Asantehene, the fourteenth Asantehemaa was installed as queenmother in 2017, after the passing of her mother, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, the thirteenth queenmother. She reigned from 1977 to 2016.

Life history

Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III is reportedly the first of the five children of her mother who had three boys and two girls with Asantehene being the youngest of the five.
Born Nana Ama Konadu in Kwadaso, Kumasi, in 1927, she is said to have been sent, at a very young age, to live with and be raised by another relative, Nana Afia Konadu, in Ashanti New Town, also in Kumasi.

This was in line with some Ashanti traditions for royals.

It was there that she got trained to be a responsible woman for her future and where she learnt the rudiments of royalty.

She became very responsible and by the age of 22, she had a clearly defined faith.

She joined the Saviour Church of Ghana in Kumasi where she was baptised and christened Ruth, a name she does not seem to have used.

However, as a member of the royal family, she also found herself worshipping at the Anglican Church in Kumasi.

According to available history, she got married in 1959, at age 37, to the man of her heart, Opanin Kwame Boateng.

In 1995, during the reign of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Opoku Ware II, it was proposed that she become the queenmother of Asanteman.

The proposal did not go in her favour as it was perceived that she was too old for the role.

Her mother, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem III, was at the time the Asantehemaa.

It was when her mother passed on in 2016 that her name came up as a suitable replacement. Her younger brother, Otumfuo Osei Tutu, endorsed her as the Asantehemaa in 2017.

As queenmother

She went through all the customary processes and consequently unveiled as the fourteenth queenmother of the Ashanti kingdom at a colourful ceremony at the Manhyia Palace that same year.

She reigned as queenmother with passion for development of her people, focusing on helping uplift education and maternal health in Asanteman.

To mark her fifth year reign as Asantehemaa, she sought to assist man of her heart, Opanin Kwame Boateng.

To mark her fifth year reign as Asantehemaa, she sought to assist  the Saviour Church of Ghana School.

The school authorities immortalised her name and honoured her by naming their school after her.

For that honour done her, Otumfuo Osei Tutu donated a new bus to the school to help them with the movement of the children around for educational purposes.

The Asantehemaa also took an interest in maternal health, to the extent that she sought to settle the hospital fees of a number of women who had given birth and needed money to settle their discharge fees.

Her interest in the area of maternal health led her to build a maternity block at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi at a time when the hospital needed the facility so badly.

She is said to have passed on at age 98 after a short illness, having ruled for eight years.

Asanteman is mourning a queenmother who was loved dearly especially for the motherly love she exhibited during the period of her reign.

She was calm and loving, welcoming all and sought to show this in many ways including how she received people without distinction.

As tributes keep pouring in and citizens and other dignitaries line up daily for condolence visits to Otumfuo, one would like to be counted from a distance, extending a hand of mourning to the Asantehene and the people of Ashanti.

May our queenmother’s soul rest peacefully in the God she discovered in her life at the prime age of 22.

India and Ghana Forge US$3 Billion Trade Path with Eye on Doubling

79th Independence Day celebrations in Accra

India’s High Commissioner to Ghana, Manish Gupta, has heralded a new era in bilateral ties, anchored by surging trade and strategic investments following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s landmark visit—the first by an Indian premier in 30 years.

The trip elevated relations to a “Comprehensive Partnership,” unlocking fresh momentum for economic collaboration across West Africa.

Trade between the nations now hits $3 billion annually, with Ghana enjoying a positive balance fueled by gold exports. Indian foreign direct investment exceeds $2 billion, spanning 900+ projects in manufacturing, agriculture, and infrastructure. This includes $1 billion in concessional credit for development initiatives like port upgrades and renewable energy plants.

During his address at Ghana’s Parliament, Modi pledged to double bilateral trade within five years—a target Gupta called “ambitious yet achievable,” citing growing Indian corporate interest in Ghana’s digital economy and agro-processing sectors.

The High Commissioner highlighted deeper roots beyond commerce: Ghana’s role as India’s gateway to West Africa, and shared histories as pioneers of post-colonial sovereignty. “Ghana’s independence inspired the Global South; today, our partnership pioneers South-South cooperation,” he noted, linking Ghana’s legacy to India’s “New India” vision of becoming a developed economy by 2047.

For Ghanaian businesses, the pact promises expanded access to India’s 1.4 billion–consumer market, while Indian investors gain footholds in regional supply chains. As Accra seeks to diversify beyond commodities, technology transfer and skills development under the partnership could prove pivotal.

Ghana Slashes VAT Rate to 20% in Sweeping Tax Reform Push

Value Added Tax (VAT)
Value Added Tax (VAT)

Ghana is overhauling its Value Added Tax system with major reforms set to take effect in early 2026, aiming to boost compliance, ease business burdens, and widen the tax net.

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) confirmed plans to fully implement the Fiscal Electronic Device Act (Act 966), mandating approved electronic sales gadgets for all specified businesses.

This move targets accurate transaction recording to curb revenue leakage. Simultaneously, new legislation headed to Parliament by October will slash the effective VAT rate from 21.9% to a cleaner, fully deductible 20% by scrapping the COVID levy and decoupling other charges.

“Currently, 8% of the VAT burden is non-recoverable, becoming a direct cost to businesses,” explained GRA Commissioner-General Anthony Kwasi Sarpong. “Our reforms will make the full 20% deductible, removing that extra burden.”

The changes directly respond to President John Mahama’s call for a “human-centred” tax approach. Supporting this shift, an Independent Tax Appeal Board (ITAB) will launch by year-end, offering businesses a faster, less adversarial alternative to courts for resolving disputes.

Crucially, the GRA is pairing tech and legislative changes with a nationwide education blitz, especially targeting SMEs. Sarpong argues that when small businesses understand and trust the system, compliance improves, creating room for future rate reviews.

“If we expand VAT coverage effectively in retail and services, it strengthens our position to potentially adjust rates down the line,” he noted.

The combined strategy electronic monitoring, simplified rates, fairer appeals, and taxpayer education aims to build a broader, more equitable revenue base. For businesses and consumers alike, the promise is clearer rules and a lighter load. But will it work? Success hinges on smooth implementation and winning public trust.

Ghana Attorney General Defends Chief Justice Suspension Amid International Pressure

Attorney General Dr Dominic Ayine

Ghana’s Attorney General has firmly rejected calls from international legal bodies to reinstate suspended Chief Justice Gertrude A.E.S. Torkornoo, insisting her suspension will stand until a judicial misconduct inquiry concludes.

The position follows a joint appeal by the Bar Council of England and Wales (BCEW) and the Commonwealth Lawyers Association (CLA), which argued the suspension undermined judicial independence.

In a sharply worded rebuttal, the Attorney General’s office asserted Ghana has acted within constitutional bounds. “Neither Latimer House Principles nor Ghana’s constitution prohibits suspending a Chief Justice once a prima facie determination of misconduct exists,” the statement read. It emphasized that halting the suspension now would itself violate constitutional procedures.

The controversy stems from an ongoing inquiry into alleged misconduct by Justice Torkornoo.

The Attorney General clarified the suspension is procedural, not punitive, and will lift only after the inquiry committee submits its final report to President John Mahama. “The President will adhere to the committee’s findings,” the statement noted, framing the process as a safeguard for judicial integrity rather than executive overreach.

International bodies had expressed concern the suspension could erode Ghana’s rule-of-law credentials. However, the government maintains its actions align with legal due process, balancing accountability and institutional stability.

For now, Justice Torkornoo’s suspension remains a flashpoint between domestic constitutional protocols and global judicial norms.

‘Sometimes allow the government to spend’ – Kennedy Agyapong on helicopter crash

0

A flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Agyapong, has called on Ghanaians to allow the government to spend, particularly on budget allocations for critical national procurements.

Speaking at the state funeral of six victims of the August 6, 2025, military helicopter crash, Agyapong noted that citizens often oppose government spending on certain projects.

He urged Ghanaians to allow the state to make such investments when they are in the national interest.

He recalled that during the tenure of the NPP, which is now in opposition, Ghanaians complained about the government’s decision to purchase aircraft, describing it as wasteful.

According to him, such attitudes discourage leaders from making decisions that could save lives and strengthen national security.

Kennedy Agyapong emphasised that the recent helicopter tragedy should serve as a lesson for the country to prioritise spending in areas that directly support development and safety.

“I want to take this opportunity to console the bereaved families, but sometimes, the nation needs to understand when the state spends money on certain things. Whenever the government decides on a project, Ghanaians start criticising. But where the government spends in a way that will help the nation, we should all agree and support it,” he said during the state funeral on August 15, 2025.

“If the aircrafts are old, then we need to get new ones…so sometimes we have to understand when the state spends money on certain things; this helicopter was approved during President Kufuor’s time. It was two, but they criticised it and we had the courage to go for one,” he added.

He added that this tragedy should also help dispel the fear among politicians who hesitate to approve essential procurements due to public backlash.

Ghana bade farewell to six of the victims at a state funeral on August 15, 2025, while two Muslims among them were buried on August 10 in accordance with Islamic rites.

The crash of the Z-9 military helicopter, which belonged to the Ghana Armed Forces, claimed the lives of several prominent figures, including Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah and Environment, Science and Technology Minister, Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.

Other victims were Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, former Central Regional Minister Samuel Sarpong and Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate.

PNP commends Mahama’s Fund for helicopter crash victims

The helicopter crash killed two senior ministers and six others The helicopter crash killed two senior ministers and six others

The People’s National Party (PNP) has commended President John Dramani Mahama for launching a fund in memory of the eight personalities who died in the recent helicopter crash, aimed at sponsoring the education of their children.

However, the party has urged the government to broaden the scope of the initiative beyond the eight individuals.

National Chairperson of the PNP, Madam Janet Nabla, said the fund should be national in character and support the children of all Ghanaians who die while serving the state.

She conveyed the party’s condolences to the families of the men who lost their lives in the line of duty and acknowledged the President’s intention as a step in the right direction. But she argued that the measure is inadequate and unsustainable.

According to her, such funds risk being depleted, discontinued, or politicised, eventually reducing them to token gestures.

The PNP therefore rejects the creation of a temporary fund as the sole intervention and is instead calling for the urgent passage of the National Heroes Dependants Protection Act.

The proposed legislation, the party said, should establish a permanent, state-backed welfare system, funded through the Consolidated Fund and administered by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection.

Madam Nabla explained that the Act must provide a monthly stipend to widows to cater for their children and, where applicable, dependent parents.

She further stressed that the benefits should be protected from political interference and guaranteed regardless of which party is in power.

In addition, she proposed that the Act ensure educational support for the children of the deceased and priority employment opportunities for them in the public sector after completing tertiary education.

She emphasised that families of citizens who die in service to the nation must not be left at the mercy of politics or fading public sympathy.

Instead, she said, a strong and permanent legal framework is needed to honour their sacrifices for generations to come.

Prince William and Kate Middleton advised over ‘difficult’ family issue

Prince William and Kate Middleton have been married since 2011 and share three children, and a royal expert said Prince Andrew and Prince Harry “should stand as a warning” for how they parent them

Prince William and Kate Middleton have been issued a warning by a royal expert

Prince William and Kate Middleton have been cautioned that Prince Andrew and Prince Harry “should stand as a warning” regarding how they ought to raise their own three children, according to a royal commentator.

The future king and his spouse are parents to three youngsters – Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and seven year old Prince Louis. George is set to follow in his father’s footsteps when he ascends to the UK throne.

However, royal experts at the Daily Mail suggested William and Kate are working to ensure his younger siblings don’t mirror the trajectories taken by Andrew and Harry as troublesome ‘spares’ in the Royal Family.

The publication’s Diary Editor revealed on the Palace Confidential podcast: “I think Andrew and Harry should both stand as a warning to Prince William and Catherine that how you treat that ‘spare’ is very difficult.

“We’ve seen in both cases I would say they’ve grown up with the wrong attitudes, with that bitterness, resentment from Harry, then in Andrew’s case that sort of weird entitlement.

Prince Harry and Prince William
Prince Harry and Prince William currently have a fractured relationship

“From everything we’ve heard, William and Catherine are making real efforts to avoid that but it is hard in that sense when winner takes all type of thing,” reports the Daily Express.

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle dramatically stepped down as working royals in 2020 to carve out their own future in the United States. Harry has subsequently launched repeated attacks on his family through platforms including his explosive memoir Spare and the bombshell interview he and his wife gave to Oprah Winfrey.

Tensions continue to simmer between Prince Charles and his son, as well as the rest of the Royal Family.

Meanwhile, Prince Andrew stepped back from his royal duties following a disastrous Newsnight interview in 2019, where he attempted to clear his name amidst growing rumours about his connection to convicted paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.

In recent years, controversy has surrounded his occupancy of Royal Lodge, with Prince Charles seemingly eager to evict his brother, and his alleged ties to a Chinese spy.

Prince Andrew
Prince Andrew has proved problematic for the Royal Family

Palace Confidential drew comparisons between the attitudes of Prince Andrew and the Queen’s youngest son, Prince Edward. Richard Eden suggested their differing personalities are due to “character” as “they’re different people and married different people”.

Edward’s friends reportedly said “he never changed that much, he’s not arrogant and always behaved in a positive way”. Richard also mentioned that Edward’s marriage to Sophie has been beneficial.

The Daily Mail’s Royal Editor Rebecca English added: “There’s an element of where you come in the pecking order. As a younger child, so moved away from the line of succession, unless there was a major disaster there was no chance he would ever become king.

“He’s growing up with different pressures, and as Richard says it does come down to personalities and the people around you.”

They walked together toward a platform marked “Alaska 2025,”where again the two leaders exchanged a handshake, posed for photographs; but as reporters shouted questions at Putin about a ceasefire and civilian casualties, the Russian president shrugged as if indicating he couldn’t hear them. American military aircraft—including fighter jets and what appeared to be a B-2 stealth bomber—thundered overhead.

Putin then joined Trump in the presidential limousine, ‘The Beast’. The two could be seen laughing inside.

What is The Beast ?

When not travelling aboard Air Force One or by helicopter on Marine One, US presidents are chauffeured in a heavily armoured presidential limousine known as “The Beast.”

‘The Beast,’ weighing 20,000 pounds and equipped with advanced security and communications systems, debuted during Trump’s first term in 2018 and reportedly cost $1.5 million to build. While it resembles an elongated Cadillac XT6, its chassis comes from a Chevrolet Kodiak truck.

Security features remain classified, but a report by NBC, suggests the vehicle has night-vision, tear gas launchers, electrified door handles, 3-inch-thick windows, and 8-inch armor plating—making it one of the most secure vehicles in the world.

Ghana Think Tank Urges Emergency Overhaul for Bleeding State Firms

0

State Owned Enterprises
State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs)

Ghana’s struggling State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) require immediate, disciplined intervention to avoid systemic collapse, policy think tank IMANI Africa warns.

Despite controlling vital national resources, entities like Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) and Cocoa Processing Company (CPC) hemorrhage cash annually, sapping state coffers and threatening fiscal stability.

The World Bank’s latest economic update singled out SOEs like Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) as key risks. IMANI’s analysis reveals GWCL loses half its water to leaks and illegal connections, while CPC faces unsustainable debt. Without urgent action, these critical service providers could unravel Ghana’s economic fabric.

First Aid: Stop the Bleeding

For GWCL, IMANI prescribes rapid metering in high-loss areas, replacing burst pipelines, and cracking down on illegal taps. “Close the leaks before funding growth,” the group insists. Similarly, CPC must freeze nonessential spending, prioritize profitable production lines, and negotiate breathing room from creditors. Delaying these steps, IMANI cautions, makes insolvency inevitable.

Bailouts with Strings Attached

Any state lifelines, like the proposed Afreximbank facility, must carry strict, public performance targets. “Conditional support protects Ghana’s fiscal anchor,” IMANI argues, demanding trackable KPIs to force accountability. Blanket rescues without reform would merely postpone disaster.

Smarter Systems, Private Discipline

Beyond emergency fixes, IMANI pushes for modernizing operations: digital billing, mobile payments, and piloting private partnerships for distribution zones. These technical shifts could plug revenue leaks while private expertise injects operational rigor.

Persistent losses have left SOEs “quietly insolvent long before balance sheets show collapse,” IMANI concludes. The path forward demands not just funding but fundamental restructuring. For millions relying on water, power, and cocoa services, the clock is ticking.

Ghana’s Chocolate Paradox: Abundant Cocoa, Scarce Local Bars

0

ghana chocolate
Ghana chocolate

Ghana’s position as the world’s second-largest cocoa producer is undisputed. Yet, for most of the year, finding a locally made chocolate bar on its own shelves proves surprisingly difficult.

Foreign visitors expecting to savor the fruits of Ghana’s famed cocoa often leave puzzled, confronted by empty spaces or imported brands instead of rich Ghanaian dark or creamy milk chocolate.

This scarcity vanishes dramatically every February. Supermarkets and gift shops overflow with beautifully packaged local chocolates like Kingsbite. Valentine’s Day and Ghana’s National Chocolate Day trigger a rush of production and marketing. For a few vibrant weeks, consumers enjoy neatly wrapped bars, artisanal treats, and themed gift boxes. Then, almost as quickly as it appeared, the diverse selection disappears again.

Why does this happen year after year? The pattern frustrates many, especially tourists who visit Ghana outside the February peak for conferences, business, or leisure. These travellers often seek authentic, locally made chocolate as the perfect souvenir or gift, willing to pay a premium. Instead, they frequently find only imported options during off-peak months, missing a unique taste of Ghana.

Production challenges offer part of the explanation. To avoid costly stockpiles in a warm climate where chocolate spoils without perfect storage, many local processors, including smaller artisan brands, ramp up output only for high-demand periods like Valentine’s. Maintaining consistent, shelf-stable supply year-round requires significant investment in capacity and storage that many lack.

The missed opportunity is clear. Well-packaged Ghanaian chocolate holds strong appeal. Kingsbite already enjoys recognition across West Africa. Newer players like Niche, Fairafric, and artisanal makers are innovating with premium flavours and sustainable cocoa sourcing. With reliable availability, these brands could secure prime spots in hotels, airports, duty-free shops, and online stores year-round.

Expanding the domestic chocolate market offers substantial economic benefits. It would capture more value from Ghana’s cocoa sector, reducing reliance on volatile raw bean exports. This shift could create more jobs in processing, marketing, and retail while boosting the international prestige of the “Made in Ghana” brand. Imagine Ghanaian chocolate holding its own against Belgian or Swiss confections.

For now, enjoying a true Ghanaian chocolate bar remains largely a seasonal experience, tied to Valentine’s or perhaps Christmas. But with focused investment in production, storage, and distribution, Ghana could transform its finest cocoa into a constant presence. For visitors eager to taste the country’s most famous export at its best, that change can’t come soon enough.

Sam George Warns Nigerian Movie Makers: Stop Using Insults to Promote Your Films

News Hub Creator10h

Ghanaian lawmaker Samuel Nartey George, popularly known as Sam George, has issued a stern warning to Nigerian entertainers, urging them to stop insulting Ghanaians as a means of promoting their movies.

Speaking passionately on the matter, the Member of Parliament expressed concern over what he described as a growing trend where some Nigerian filmmakers and actors allegedly use derogatory remarks about Ghanaians to generate hype and attention for their productions.

Sam George noted that while Ghana and Nigeria share deep cultural and historical ties, such tactics risk creating unnecessary tension between the two countries. He stressed that healthy competition in the creative industry should be based on talent, creativity, and respect, not insults or negative stereotypes.

The MP called on Ghanaian authorities, film bodies, and media houses to take a stand against any content that seeks to demean the country for publicity purposes. He further urged Nigerian industry stakeholders to encourage positive cross-border collaborations rather than divisive promotional gimmicks.

His statement has sparked debate on social media, with many Ghanaians backing his position, while some Nigerians argued that the remarks were taken out of context or were simply meant as humor. The controversy has reignited conversations about mutual respect and the portrayal of African nations in the entertainment industry.

News Hub Creator8h

On Friday, August 15, 2025, President John Mahama and Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang led a somber procession to the Military Cemetery in Tse Addo for the interment of six individuals who tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash on August 6, 2025. The ceremony marks a significant moment in the nation’s mourning process following the devastating incident that claimed the lives of eight people, including two high-profile government ministers.

The helicopter, a Ghana Air Force Harbin Z-9, was en route to an event focused on combating illegal mining in the Ashanti region when it crashed into a forested mountainside, killing all on board. Among the deceased were Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, whose deaths have deeply affected the political landscape of Ghana. The crash, one of the worst air disasters in the country in over a decade, prompted an immediate investigation by the Ghana Armed Forces and other security agencies to determine the cause.

The interment ceremony was attended by a host of military personnel and dignitaries, reflecting the gravity of the occasion. President Mahama and Vice President Opoku-Agyemang, dressed in formal attire, walked a red carpet leading to the cemetery, symbolizing respect and honor for the fallen. The presence of armed guards and the solemn atmosphere underscored the nation’s collective grief and the ongoing efforts to pay tribute to the victims.

This event follows an earlier burial of two victims on August 10, 2025, as announced by President Mahama. The crash has not only resulted in a national period of mourning but also highlighted the risks associated with military and governmental operations. As investigations continue, the interment serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made and the need for enhanced safety measures in future endeavors. The Ghanaian government remains committed to supporting the families of the victims and ensuring a thorough understanding of the tragic event.

AG contests suspended Chief Justice’s court action against Shining Stars petition

0

The Office of the Attorney-General has moved to strike out a second judicial review application filed by suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, who is seeking to have one of three removal petitions against her dismissed.

The latest application, lodged on 23 June 2025, challenges a petition submitted by a group known as the Shining Stars of Ghana.

Lawyers for the suspended Chief Justice contend that the petition is invalid, arguing that the group is neither a registered entity nor identifiable by its membership.

However, Deputy Attorney-General Dr Justice Srem-Sai, representing the state, has rejected these claims, insisting they are unfounded and should not obstruct the committee established under Article 146 of the Constitution from carrying out its mandate.

In an affidavit sworn by State Attorney Reginald Nii Odoi, the AG’s office argued that “a body of persons—whether named or unnamed and, if named, by whatever designation—need not be incorporated or registered to exist at law.”

This marks Justice Torkornoo’s second attempt to use the High Court’s judicial review powers to halt the committee’s work.

Her earlier bid sought to have all three petitions struck out and to suspend the Justice Pawmang Committee’s sittings over alleged breaches of natural justice. That application was dismissed for being an abuse of court process and for lack of jurisdiction.

Although a related interpretation case is pending before the Supreme Court, an injunction arising from it was also refused, clearing the way for the Article 146 proceedings to continue.

In its latest response, the Attorney-General’s office maintains that the suspended Chief Justice’s arguments concern the internal proceedings of the Article 146 committee, which the Constitution stipulates must be conducted in camera.

It concluded that “the issues raised by the originating motion are not admissible in this Honourable Court,” reiterating its position that the High Court lacks jurisdiction over matters arising under Article 146.

‘Sometimes allow the government to spend’ – Kennedy Agyapong on helicopter crash

The Tributes, Personalities and Sorrow: See photos from the final farewell to the six helicopter crash victims

Members of the helicopter’s crew who also died in the crash were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Malin Twum-Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

Retired Air Force Officer Revealed The People Behind the Helicopter Crash

0

Accra, Ghana – Wing Commander (Retired) Patrick Nelson Sogbodjor has appealed to Ghanaians to remain calm and avoid speculation while investigations continue into the tragic helicopter crash that claimed eight lives, including two cabinet ministers. The retired Air Force officer emphasized the importance of waiting for official findings before drawing conclusions about the incident.

Speaking to Umaru Sanda Amadu on Eyewitness News on Wednesday, August 13, Mr. Sogbodjor highlighted that aviation investigations are often meticulous and time-consuming. He referenced a similar helicopter crash in the United States, where the official results of the probe were only released two months after the incident. “We must exercise patience and allow the experts to conduct a thorough examination,” he advised.

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recently confirmed that they are awaiting reports from aviation experts and the aircraft manufacturer regarding the black box recovered from the crash site. These findings will be critical in determining the exact cause of the tragedy. Sogbodjor stressed that hasty conclusions based on speculation could lead to misinformation and unnecessary panic.

The August 6 helicopter crash claimed the lives of prominent figures, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah; Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed; former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye; NDC Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong; and Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator. Three crew members – Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah – also perished in the crash.

Addressing public concerns about whether another helicopter should have been dispatched to the crash site, Sogbodjor urged understanding of operational protocols in emergency situations. “Decisions at such scenes are made based on safety, accessibility, and the resources available. It is not always feasible to send another aircraft immediately,” he explained.

The crash has plunged the nation into mourning, with citizens expressing grief over the loss of these key figures. In honor of the victims, a state funeral has been scheduled for Friday, August 15, 2025, at Black Star Square in Accra, where family members, colleagues, and the general public will pay their final respects.

Sogbodjor’s call for patience resonates as Ghanaians await clarity on the cause of the crash. His advice underscores the importance of relying on verified information, trusting expert investigations, and avoiding speculation during national tragedies.

As the nation prepares for the state funeral, the emphasis remains on mourning responsibly while allowing the investigative process to unfold, ensuring that the lessons from this tragic event are fully understood and acted upon.

for the last six victims of the August 6, 2025, helicopter crash.

With tears streaming down her face, she remembered her husband of 37 years as a devoted partner, father, and pillar of strength.

She recalled Dr Sarpong’s last phone call to her before the crash, where he said he was embarking on “a return journey.”

Paying tribute to his character, Hannah Sarpong described her late husband, Dr Samuel Sarpong, as a man of wisdom, compassion, and devotion.

Overcome with grief, she expressed the void his passing has left behind: “Your absence is a deep wound in my heart. Yet your love will forever comfort me.

The Rainforest Alliance Ghana has convened a high-level partners and stakeholders workshop in Accra, rallying sustainability managers, policymakers, private sector actors, and farmer representatives to chart a path toward more sustainable agricultural value chains and regenerative landscapes.

The workshop, held at the AH Hotel, Accra, introduced stakeholders to the Rainforest Alliance 2030 Strategy, the Sustainable Agriculture Standard Version 1.4, and its policy for West and Central Africa.

Participants included representatives from COCOBOD, the Forestry Commission, UNDP, private sector actors, farmer groups, and traditional authorities.

Founded in 1987, the Rainforest Alliance has been at the forefront of fostering biodiversity, enhancing climate resilience, and improving rural livelihoods.

In 2024 alone, its programmes reached more than 25 million hectares globally, with certified crops produced according to rigorous environmental, social, and economic sustainability standards.

Today, the organisation works in 62 countries, promoting sustainable land management and helping rural economies thrive, a proven strategy to safeguard tropical forests and restore biodiversity.

Opening the workshop, Rainforest Alliance Ghana Country Director Nicholas Jengre emphasised the importance of building stronger partnerships to deliver the organisation’s 2030 Strategy in Ghana. “Our vision is a world where people and nature thrive in harmony,” he said.

“Achieving this requires us to align our efforts, share lessons, and pool resources to drive transformational change across entire landscapes.”

Echoing this call, Nadège Nzoyem, Senior Director for West & Central Africa, urged greater regional collaboration to tackle shared sustainability challenges. “Sustainability is no longer an optional commitment, it is the foundation for future competitiveness, climate resilience, and inclusive growth,” she noted.

“The lessons and innovations emerging from Ghana’s cocoa and forest landscapes can serve as powerful models for the entire region.”

The programme featured sessions on Rainforest Alliance’s certification data in Ghana, an overview of the Sustainable Agriculture Standard Version 1.4, and spotlights on key landscape initiatives, including the Sui River and Savannah landscapes.

Discussions highlighted how integrated approaches to forest conservation, community engagement, and market linkages can drive net-positive outcomes for people and nature.

A panel session titled “Transformational Change for Net Positive Landscapes in Ghana” brought together representatives from the Forestry Commission, COCOBOD, UNDP, private sector, Rainforest Alliance, and farmer groups.

Speakers underscored the need for policy alignment, investment in regenerative practices, and capacity-building at the community level.

The workshop concluded with a renewed pledge from all stakeholders to deepen collaboration, scale solutions, and maintain open channels of communication.

Closing the event, Nana Kwabena Gyanfi Akwabeng, Abontendom Hene of Anhwiaso Traditional Authority called on participants to translate their commitments into tangible benefits for farmers and forest-dependent communities.

With nearly four decades of global impact and a strong track record in Ghana, the Rainforest Alliance is positioning itself, alongside its partners, to ensure that cocoa, forests, and landscapes can thrive together for generations to come.

Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo responds to racial abuse with a brace against Liverpool on EPL opening weekend

Antoine Semenyo (R) scored twice despite racial abuse Antoine Semenyo (R) scored twice despite racial abuse

Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo showed impeccable mentality on Friday night August 15, 2025, scoring a brace against Liverpool after he was racially abused by a fan on the opening weekend of the English Premier League.

The alleged abuse occurred midway through the first half when Semenyo was targeted by a fan, as he was attempting to affect a throw-in.

Rather than be rattled, the 24-year-old Black Stars striker channelled his emotions into an outstanding performance.

In the game kicking off the 2025/26 English Premier League season, Liverpool took control early on in the beautiful atmosphere created by the home fans.

New signing Hugo Ekitike pounced on a loose ball in the 37th minute inside the penalty area and fired into the bottom right corner to open the scoring.

Cody Gakpo doubled the Reds’ advantage in the 49th minute with a superb low strike from the edge of the box.

Bournemouth’s response began in the 64th minute when Antoine Semenyo reacted quickest to a loose ball in the box, slotting home to cut the deficit.

Antoine Semenyo resumes pre-season with AFC Bournemouth after signing new contract

Twelve minutes later, the Ghanaian produced a moment of brilliance, drilling a precise strike from the edge of the penalty area into the bottom right corner to level the match.

Despite his outstanding performance, it was not enough to earn a point for AFC Bournemouth.

Liverpool struck late through goals by Federico Chiesa in the 88th minute and Mohammed Salah in added time to secure all three points at full-time.

Justin Bieber parties without Hailey AGAIN and smokes joint

0

Justin Bieber partied without his wife Hailey yet again Thursday, after they both enjoyed separate nights on the town Wednesday.

Over the past few months fans have been harboring concerns over Justin’s health owing in part to his gaunt, hollow-eyed appearance.

He has also been trailed by rumors of marital strife with his wife Hailey Bieber and has since alluded to their relationship problems on his new album, while also affirming his commitment to her and their one-year-old son Jack Blues.

This Wednesday, Justin, 31, swung by Gunna’s album release party in West Hollywood while Hailey, 28, indulged in a girls’ night in the same neighborhood.

However when he stepped out this Thursday, he kept away from the usual showbiz hot spots and opted for a lowkey venue off the beaten path.

In a new Instagram album he posted Friday, Justin could be seen smoking a joint the previous night outside the dive bar Dave’s on Broadway in the suburb Glendale.

Justin Bieber partied without his wife Hailey yet again Thursday, visiting Dave’s on Broadway in Glendale and posting a picture of himself smoking a joint outside the venue

First opened as a speakeasy in 1932 near the end of Prohibition, Dave’s is an unassuming neighborhood bar with events like karaoke and open-mic nights.

Justin’s new album included a suite of images of himself inside the bar, sitting with his male friends and getting one of the pool tables ready for a game.

His post concluded with a boomerang that showed the Baby singer, pool cue in hand, dancing joyfully in a circle near the table.

One night earlier, Justin paid a visit to the West Hollywood nightclub Zouk to attend album release party for Gunna’s latest project The Last Wun.

He was accompanied by his controversial longtime friend Kyle Massey, who shot to fame on That’s So Raven as the title character’s little brother Cory Baxter.

Kyle, 33, entered the headlines four years ago when he was charged with felony immoral communication with a minor over allegations he sent pornographic images to a 13-year-old girl, which he strenuously denied.

A number of other women then claimed to The Daily Beast that Kyle had communicated with them on social media when they were teenage high schoolers.

Kyle was sued in 2019 over similar allegations, but the action was dropped that year after the plaintiff’s lawyer withdrew from the case.

NPP Plotted to Kill Mahama by Pouring Acid in Jet, Owusu Banahene Drops Bombshell

0

Owusu Banahene has made a bold and disturbing claim that some members of the New Patriotic Party tried to harm President John Dramani Mahama by pouring acid inside the presidential jet. He said this was not just a rumour but an actual plot meant to cause serious harm to the president. According to him, this was one of several traps set against Mahama to stop him from carrying out his duties and to create fear in his administration.

In his words, “NPP members set traps for President Mahama by pouring acid in the presidential jet.” Banahene explained that this action could have caused severe injury or even death if it had gone unnoticed. He insisted that such acts were clear evidence of how far some people were willing to go just to undermine the president.

Banahene described the act as a cruel and calculated plan. He said the acid was meant to damage parts of the jet so badly that using it could lead to a deadly disaster mid-flight. “This was a planned attempt to destroy the president,” he said, adding that the matter should not be taken lightly because it shows the extent of political hostility in the country.

He also claimed that this was not an isolated event. According to him, there were other hidden schemes, all meant to frustrate and harm Mahama during his time in office. These included sabotage in other areas of government operations. “They didn’t want him to succeed, so they tried to break him at every turn,” Banahene said, painting a picture of an environment where political rivalry had crossed dangerous lines.

Many Ghanaians have expressed shock at the claim, with some calling for immediate investigations to verify what actually happened. Others believe that if the story is true, then those responsible must be found and punished to send a strong message that such acts will never be tolerated in the country.

Political observers note that accusations like this only deepen the divide between the two main political parties. While some supporters of Mahama see it as proof that there was a conspiracy against him, others question the timing and truth of the statement. Banahene, however, has maintained his position firmly, insisting that what he revealed was the truth.

He emphasised that the life of a sitting president should never be put at risk for political gain. “This is not politics. This is an attack on Ghana itself because the president represents the whole nation,” he said.

The story continues to stir public debate, with many demanding answers and transparency. Whether the authorities will open an official investigation remains to be seen, but Banahene’s words have already created a wave of concern, suspicion, and heated discussion across the country.

Sh0ck as Leaks Reveal Alleged Chemical Infusion into Mahama’s Aircraft Fuel System

0

Reports emerging from political circles have stirred controversy following allegations that an attempt was made to sabotage the private jet used by former Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama. According to leaked information from sources claiming proximity to the Presidency, the alleged plot involved infusing an unspecified substance, described as “ald,” into the aircraft’s engine system through its fuel pipe.

The leak, which has not yet been independently verified, suggests that the act was intended to cause mechanical failure during flight. It is alleged that the incident was linked to operatives affiliated with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), sparking political outrage and calls for immediate investigation.

Aviation safety experts have warned that introducing any foreign chemical or substance into an aircraft engine’s fuel system could have catastrophic consequences, including mid-air engine failure. They stressed that such acts, if proven true, would constitute not only political sabotage but also attempted murder under Ghanaian law.

While the former president has not issued a public statement on the matter, opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) officials are demanding swift action from security agencies. They have called for the arrest and prosecution of all individuals allegedly involved, warning that political rivalry must not cross the line into life-threatening plots.

The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) have reportedly been briefed on the claims. However, no official confirmation or denial has been released, and the Presidency has remained silent amid growing speculation.

This alleged sabotage attempt comes at a time of heightened political tension, with the 2024 general elections approaching and political rhetoric intensifying. Analysts say if the claims are proven true, the scandal could become one of the most dangerous episodes in Ghana’s political history.

International Legal Bodies Question Suspension of Ghana’s Chief Justice

0

Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo
Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo

The Bar Council of England and Wales and the Commonwealth Lawyers Association have jointly raised “serious concern” over the suspension of Ghana’s Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, warning the move risks undermining judicial independence.

In an August 14 statement, the groups emphasized that an impartial judiciary forms the bedrock of any rule-of-law society and noted Ghana’s historic commitment to Commonwealth principles.

“The existence of an independent judiciary is cardinal,” they declared, cautioning that executive actions perceived to compromise this independence demand scrutiny.

The statement highlighted Justice Torkornoo’s ongoing lawsuit at the ECOWAS Court of Justice challenging her April 22 suspension, which follows earlier domestic appeals citing procedural unfairness and constitutional violations.

Citing the Commonwealth Charter and Latimer House Principles, the bodies stressed that disciplinary proceedings against judges must guarantee fairness, transparent charges, legal representation, and review by an independent tribunal.

They echoed concerns previously voiced by the Ghana Bar Association and Commonwealth judicial groups, underscoring global unease over the suspension’s implications.

As Ghana navigates this constitutional tension, international eyes remain fixed on how Africa’s beacon of democracy balances executive authority with judicial autonomy. Will due process prevail?

High Court Sentences NPP TikTokers to Four Years in Prison in Landmark Case

0

In a ruling that has sent shockwaves through Ghana’s political and social media circles, the High Court has handed down a four-year prison sentence to a group of New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters known for their political activities on TikTok.

The group, popularly referred to as the “NPP TikTokers,” were convicted after being found guilty of offences related to inciting violence, issuing threats, and using social media to spread content deemed dangerous to public peace. The case, which has drawn nationwide attention, has now set a legal precedent for how Ghana’s justice system will address politically motivated online misconduct.

According to court documents, the NPP TikTokers had posted a series of videos on the platform making inflammatory statements, some of which allegedly contained threats against political opponents. The prosecution argued that their actions were not only irresponsible but also posed a real danger to national security, especially in the current politically charged climate.

During the trial, the defence attempted to argue that the videos were made in jest and should be seen as political banter. However, the presiding judge dismissed this claim, stating that political expression must never cross the line into threats of violence or incitement.

“The court will not tolerate the use of social media to promote hostility, threats, and actions that can destabilise the peace of the nation,” the judge stated while delivering the verdict.

Legal experts say the sentencing marks a turning point in Ghana’s handling of online political behaviour, signalling that digital platforms are no longer free zones for unregulated political attacks.

The NPP leadership has not issued an official statement on the ruling, but sources within the party indicate that there is concern over the political and public relations impact of the case. Some members fear that the judgment could discourage grassroots supporters from engaging in online campaigns, while others welcome the move as a warning to keep political discourse civil.

The convicted TikTokers are expected to serve their sentences in full unless they file a successful appeal. Their legal team has hinted at plans to challenge the ruling, citing possible violations of their clients’ rights to free speech.

Meanwhile, the case has sparked heated debates online, with social media users split between those who believe the sentence is too harsh and those who say it is necessary to curb growing political toxicity in Ghana’s digital space.

Ghana’s new gov’t paves way for economic reforms – World Bank Group

0

The Mahama-led administration, backed by a clear parliamentary majority from the 2024 general election, has a renewed opportunity to drive ambitious economic reforms, according to the World Bank Group’s 9th Economic Update for Ghana.

The June edition of the report emphasises that while this political stability is a significant advantage, the nation must brace for a period of slower economic growth as it implements necessary fiscal adjustments.

The World Bank Group stated that the new government’s mandate has provided a strong impetus for its reform agenda, which is centred on fiscal discipline, macroeconomic stability, and long-term growth, the report highlighted.

The World Bank notes that fully implementing these institutional and legislative changes is crucial to realizing the benefits of poverty reduction and inclusive growth, but warns that any delays could lead to renewed fiscal pressures and a drop in investor confidence.

The macroeconomic outlook for 2025 projects a deceleration in economic growth to 3.9 percent, down from the strong 5.7 percent recorded in 2024.

This slowdown is primarily a result of the government’s tough fiscal adjustments, persistent inflation, and high interest rates.

The World Bank acknowledges these measures are essential for stabilising the economy and setting it on a path to a sustainable, long-term growth potential of 5 percent.

Despite the projected slowdown, key sectors are expected to remain resilient:

  • Gold Exports: Gold exports will remain high due to favorable international prices, providing a crucial source of foreign exchange.
  • External Sector: Ghana’s external sector is projected to maintain a current account surplus. This is being driven by strong exports, robust remittance inflows, and sustained Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). According to a recent Bank of Ghana report, remittances alone contribute over $4 billion annually, making them a cornerstone of the country’s external balance.
  • Inflation: The report anticipates that inflation will continue to subside as the Bank of Ghana maintains its tight monetary policy stance.

The World Bank’s fiscal outlook is optimistic, provided the government remains on its chosen path.

The government is targeting a primary surplus of 1.5 percent of GDP in 2025 and over the medium term.

This means that government revenue will exceed its non-interest expenditures, allowing it to gradually free up fiscal space for critical investments in pro-poor and pro-growth sectors.

Ghana’s debt is assessed as sustainable in the medium term, but this is contingent on two key factors: the completion of external debt restructuring and the full implementation of the planned fiscal consolidation.

While the country still faces a high risk of debt distress, significant progress has been made with a recent agreement already in place with official creditors.

Looking ahead, the government’s borrowing strategy will be primarily limited to domestic sources, with plans to cautiously regain access to external commercial borrowing only in the medium term.

GIPC Engages Diplomatic Corps on New Investment Drive Across Ghana

Simon Madjie, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), has called on the diplomatic missions and Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) to actively promote Ghana’s investment opportunities across global markets, investors, and networks.

He said the mission’s commitment to championing governmental initiatives within their respective countries would significantly help to deepen cross-border collaborations.

Madjie made the call during an engagement with the diplomatic community on the Centre’s flagship Investment Opportunity Mapping Project (IOMP) aimed at identifying and promoting viable investments across the country.

The project, developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, and the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), seeks to address the challenge of unequitable distribution of investment across Ghana, with 80 per cent concentrated in the Greater Accra Region.

Madjie stressed that the project would spotlight untapped opportunities in all 261districts of Ghana, thereby attracting needed investments to previously neglected areas with exciting potential.

He said the collective participation and advocacy of diplomatic missions, DFIs, and international cooperation agencies would enhance efforts to attract targeted Foreign Direct lnvestment (FDI) and promote bilateral economic cooperation.

“The IOMP is not simply about attracting more investments; it is about balancing growth, reducing regional disparities, creating jobs, expanding exports, and building a diversified, resilient economy,” he added.

He also announced that the Centre was working around the clock to reform the GIPC Act, which would enhance investor protection and improve the ease of doing business in Ghana.

Abdul Razak Baba, Deputy CEO of the GIPC, encouraged the Diplomatic Missions to become “Vocal Ambassadors” for Ghana’s district-level investment potential, share the information widely, and connecting investors to upcoming platforms such as the Ghana International Investment Summit (GIIS) scheduled for 2026.

“Your technical expertise, resources, and innovative financing solutions will be vital in identifying and transforming district-level opportunities into bankable, high-impact investments,” Mr Baba said.

He reassured that the Centre was committed to working with partners at all stages, including refining investment profiles to co-hosting targeted investor engagements.

Lovi Mehiawo, Deputy Director of Research at the GIPC, took participants through the scope, methodology, and expected outcomes of the IOMP, highlighting the strategic sectors and the 16 regions identified for priority investment.

Government ‘schools’ UK Bar Council, Commonwealth lawyers on Ghana laws over demand for Torkornoo’s reinstatement

The Government of Ghana has responded to the Bar Council of England and Wales (BCEW) and the Commonwealth Lawyers Association (CLA), after the two foreign legal bodies called for the reinstatement of suspended Chief Justice, Justice Gertrude Araba Torkornoo.

In a press release dated August 15, 2025, and signed by the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, the government described the joint statement as “a matter of serious concern,” accusing the BCEW and CLA of failing to properly study Ghana’s Constitution before making their demands.

“It is, however, a matter of serious concern that the BCEW and the CLA issued the joint statement without first acquainting themselves, even in a very basic way, with the relevant constitutional provisions and the material facts of the matter,” the release stated.

The Attorney-General emphasised that Justice Torkornoo’s suspension followed the due process laid out under Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution.

“The suspension of Her Ladyship, Justice Torkornoo, C.J., strictly adheres to the provisions of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, particularly Article 146, which prescribes the procedure and the grounds for the removal of the Chief Justice and the removal of other Justices of the Superior Courts from office,” Dr Ayine explained.

He noted that three petitions alleging misbehaviour and incompetence were submitted against the Chief Justice.

These were reviewed by the Council of State, which determined that each petition established a prima facie case.

‘Immediately reinstate Chief Justice’ – UK Bar Council, Commonwealth Lawyers ‘orders’ Mahama

A five-member inquiry committee comprising two Supreme Court judges and three non-lawyer members was subsequently set up to investigate the matter.

“After establishing the inquiry committee, the President, acting in accordance with further advice from the Council of State, suspended Her Ladyship, Justice Torkornoo, C.J., pending the outcome of the inquiry,” the statement added.

Responding to claims of unfairness and delay, the Attorney-General stressed that the process is entirely independent of the Executive.

“It is unrealistic and unbelievable that an inquiry committee with two of the suspended Chief Justice’s peers, one serving as chairperson, would deprive her of the safeguards of due process, particularly when it is public knowledge that legal counsel… has continuously and ably represented her throughout the hearings,” he said.

He also dismissed allegations of unconstitutional conduct: “It must, therefore, be emphasised that there has been no constitutional breach or executive overreach in the consideration of the three petitions.”

The government reiterated its commitment to judicial independence, warning that misleading narratives could harm Ghana’s constitutional reputation.

“The government of Ghana remains strongly committed to maintaining the independence of the judiciary, separation of powers, and the rule of law. Any suggestion otherwise is unfounded and risks distorting a constitutional process that is being conducted fairly, transparently and in accordance with the law,” the Attorney-General declared.

The President also assured that the Government would make an immediate seed contribution to the Fund and would operationalize and publish a detailed framework for its management within the next 30 days.

This initiative aims to provide long-term support to the children affected by the tragic incident.

“My office will ensure that the Children’s Support Fund is sustained for the long term with annual public reporting on how it has been used,” he said.

“Furthermore, we’ll create channels for contributions from our citizens, from corporate organizations, professional associations and our international partners.

“Imagine the impact it will have on each of these children who have been left behind by the death of their parents.”

“Let us also leave our eight comrades today with a promise that their children will not be alone and that they’ve got us and we’ll always be there to share. We will walk with them into their future.”

The President on the behalf of the Government and People of Ghana, expressed their deepest gratitude to the bereaved families.

He further thanked them for their courage and dignity in the face of the unimaginable loss.

The President expressed gratitude to the Ghana Armed Forces and Emergency Services for their swift and professional response to the accident.

He also expressed gratitude to the nation’s religious leaders and traditional authorities, to members of the diplomatic corps, civil society and citizens who were the very pillars of the nation.

“I say thank you for praying with us, for comforting the families and for offering every form of support to ensure that we made it through the darkest days of this tragedy.”

President Mahama also thanked his colleagues the heads of state from around the world, including Africa and West Africa, who either visited or gave him personal calls or sent messages of condolence and support on behalf of their people; stating that “we extend our deepest gratitude”.

“It is this solidarity that affirms the strength of our national and international spirit”.

The President prayed that the State Funeral would bring closure to a grieving nation and that a new dawn would break in which they would look forward with pride as Ghanaians to a prosperous nation.

“And that today we pray that this will be the beginning as the almighty God heals our land.”

Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed and Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna were laid to rest on Sunday, 10th August 2025, at the new military cemetery at Tse Addo in Accra.

The rest of six, after the State funeral, would be laid to rest at the same cemetery.

Ghana National Supporters Union donates blood to support National blood Service

The Ghana National Supporters Union (GHANSU) has organized a blood donation exercise to support the National blood Service, in an effort to help save lives across the country.

The exercise took place in Accra on August 13, 2025, and drew members of the union, health officials and volunteers from various communities.

The founder and leader of the Ghana National Supporters Union, Ibrahim Boakye, popularly known as One Man Supporter, said the initiative was part of the union’s commitment to serving the nation beyond cheering on sports teams.

“As supporters of the national team and other sports activities, we aim to help others so that especially those in need of blood can have access,” Boakye explained.

“This is our offer to the nation, to contribute in our own way to saving lives.”

Another member of the group, Samuel Aggrey, also known as Obour, reiterated the union’s dedication to social causes, adding, “We love to support our country not only in sports but also in areas that save lives. This is our way of giving back to Ghana.”

Representatives from the National Blood Service were on hand to oversee the exercise and ensure all safety protocols were followed.

Felix Tetteh, a donor organizer with the National Blood Service, explained the importance of the event.

“GHANSU contacted us about organizing a blood donation exercise, and we wholeheartedly agreed because the need is great,” he said.

“We want to support the sick and those who need blood at our various hospitals. Recently, there have been many road accidents, and survivors often require blood transfusions. Beyond that, pregnant women, cancer patients, and people with sickle cell disease all rely on donated blood.”

Felix outlined the process donors go through, “When you come, you first register, then we screen you to check if you are eligible. If you can donate, you proceed to give blood. If not, we explain why and advise you on what to do so you can donate in the future.”

He assured the public of the safety and traceability of donated blood.

“Every blood bag is numbered with a unique code to identify the donor. Once we receive the blood, it’s screened for HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C. This ensures there is no mixing or confusion,” he noted.

Africa does not need to import solutions to address housing challenges

Prosper Hoetu, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Homeownership Fund Prosper Hoetu, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Homeownership Fund

Prosper Hoetu, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Homeownership Fund (NHF), says the African continent does not need to import solutions to address its housing challenges.

He said the continent could leverage local materials and technology to provide affordable houses.

Hoetu was speaking at the 44th Annual General Meeting of the Shelter Afrique Development Bank held in Algiers, Algeria.

The event was on the theme: “Strengthening Africa’s Housing Sector: Local Solutions to Global Challenges.”

Hoetu also made a presentation on the topic: “Enhanced Housing Policies and Adoption of Sustainable Construction Materials and Technologies – Case Studies from Ghana.”

He said the Fund was leading practical innovations, strategic policy reforms, and the transformative initiatives in line with the vision of President John Dramani Mahama in advancing Ghana’s affordable housing agenda, promoting inclusivity and sustainability in homeownership.

He said the Fund was providing innovative financing, where they were engaging in public-private partnership models, coupled with green and climate finance.

He said the government was engaging in inclusive and climate resilient housing, where vulnerable groups, women, and low-income earners could take advantage of the opportunity to own a house.

He said the NHF was exploring Shelter Afrique Viral Module Assessment and developing a comprehensive affordable housing strategy.

Madam Selma Haddedi, Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, spoke on Africa’s rapid urbanisation, warning that urbanisation soared from 15 per cent in 1960 to 40 per cent in 2010 and was projected to reach 60 per cent in 2050.

She highlighted the potential for wealthier consumer markets and stronger trade networks but stressed that this depends on urgent investment in infrastructure, especially affordable housing, and action on climate risk.

She reaffirmed the AU’s commitment to work with Shelter Afrique Development Bank on governance, policy, and sustainable funding to shape the future of African cities.

Squadron leader’s wife and baby at vigil

A solemn candlelight vigil was held at Base Square to honour the memory of three gallant Ghana Armed Forces crew members, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, who tragically lost their lives in the Adansi Akrofuom helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.

The emotional ceremony drew scores of military personnel, government officials, family members, and sympathisers, all gathered to pay their respects to the fallen heroes whose service and sacrifice left an indelible mark on the nation.

Candles lit up the square, creating a poignant atmosphere as attendees sang hymns, shared memories, and prayed for the souls of the departed.

A particularly touching moment came when the wife of the late Squadron Leader Anala arrived at the vigil carrying their two-month-old baby. Dressed in black, she quietly sat among other bereaved families, cradling her infant.

At one point, she was seen feeding the baby with milk in a feeding bottle, a scene that moved many to tears. A lady who looked much older than her handed her the feeding bottle and assisted Mr Anala’s wife in feeding their baby.

Meanwhile, the three servicemen were part of the team that was heading to Obuasi for an anti-galamsey conference when their Ghana Air Force helicopter went down near Obuasi, claiming eight lives in total. The tragedy has plunged the country into mourning, with tributes pouring in from across Ghana and beyond.

Ghanaian military pilot showcases helicopter skills

YEN.com.gh reported that a Ghanaian military pilot, known online as HeliPilotGH, has given the public a rare peek into the experience of flying the Ghana Air Force’s Harbin Z-9 helicopter over the city.

In the video, the pilot shared what it felt like operating the aircraft at approximately 1,500 feet above ground level, accompanied by two fellow Ghana Armed Forces pilots. The footage captured sweeping aerial views of the city while highlighting the precision and coordination required to manoeuvre the chopper in flight.

While many Ghanaians praised HeliPilotGH’s skill and composure in the air, others expressed concern over the continued use of older helicopter models for training and operational duties.

A self-proclaimed Ghanaian prophet, Razak, the leader and founder of Jesus Prayer Ministry in the Greater Accra region, on Saturday, August 16, 2025, stormed Independence Square in Accra during the state funeral for the eight fallen heroes who died in a military helicopter crash, demanding access to their bodies.

The moment Titus Glover broke down in tears at the state funeral for helicopter crash victims

According to him, he possessed the power to bring all the deceased back to life if given the opportunity.

Dressed in white, Prophet Razak claimed that the souls of the late officials who perished while on national assignment were still hovering around due to the sudden nature of their death.

He insisted that he could revive them.

“I am here demanding the opportunity to resurrect all of them back to life. I have the power to bring them back, and I am ever ready to do that right now if I am given the chance, because their souls are still hovering around,” he declared.

He also diverted his attention to political matters, alleging that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) must apologise to Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, for what he described as acts of disobedience against her husband.

He warned that worse things would befall the party if the apology were not rendered and she were not reconciled with the NDC.

The helicopter crash involved a Z-9 aircraft belonging to the Ghana Armed Forces.

It claimed the lives of several top officials, including Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah and Environment, Science and Technology Minister Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.

Ghana Farmers Demand Mandatory Training to Lift Agriculture Standards

0

Agriculture
Agriculture

Ghana’s Concerned Farmers Association is pushing for a nationwide licensing system that would require formal training and certification before anyone can operate a farm.

The group argues treating agriculture as a regulated profession is essential to curb dangerous practices, protect public health, and secure Ghana’s position in global food markets. Unregulated pesticide use and outdated methods, they warn, risk consumer safety and could trigger damaging export bans.

Association President Nana Oboadie Boateng Bonsu emphasized agriculture’s critical economic role – employing millions and generating billions annually – while stressing the need for professional rigor. “Farming is a profession like medicine, teaching, or law.

Just as doctors or lawyers need licenses and training, so should farmers,” he stated firmly. The call targets the uncontrolled spread of dangerous pesticides and techniques that undermine both local food safety and international confidence in Ghanaian produce.

Implementing mandatory certification, the association contends, would directly tackle these risks. A structured training framework could significantly reduce unsafe chemical handling, boost yields through modern methods, and better shield consumers from contaminated goods.

Crucially, it would align Ghana’s exports with stringent international standards, safeguarding vital foreign exchange earnings and building long-term sector resilience.

For a government prioritizing job creation and exports, this proposal presents a clear path to elevate farming beyond subsistence. Will policymakers treat the soil with the same seriousness as the courtroom or clinic?

Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) General Secretary Patrick Johnson has confirmed the newly established Normalization Committee will dissolve by 2026, emphasizing its temporary mandate to overhaul the sport’s ecosystem.

In an exclusive interview, Johnson stated the committee will collaborate with the GBA to implement ministerial recommendations across all levels—from juvenile and female amateur boxing to professional tiers.

“Every stakeholder will benefit when Ghana Boxing’s entire structure is revitalized,” Johnson asserted. The committee’s core task involves launching a 5-year development plan to attract investment, international title bouts, and sports tourism. Key goals include securing global promotional deals and modernizing training infrastructure.

Johnson urged stakeholders to support the committee’s accelerated timeline, noting it must complete reforms before handing leadership to a newly elected GBA president and board by 2026. The move aims to resolve longstanding governance disputes and align Ghana with global boxing standards.

Gospel musician Selina Boateng sent radio host Nana Romeo and listeners into fits of laughter when she shared her approach to prayer, excluding one particular activity.

The award-winning singer, in an interview with Nana Romeo on Okay FM on August 15, shared her devout prayer habits.

“A doctor can’t tell me anything because I know I am healthy. If a doctor says anything, I go to God in prayer because he is the overall doctor.

“Even if a doctor gives me a prescription, I would pray over it. Anything I do, I pray over it. Driving, cooking, eating, anything I do, I pray over it,” she explained.

But the conversation took a hilarious turn when Nana Romeo asked if she also prays before being intimate.

“As for that one [sex], I don’t need to pray. That is not a spiritual matter. I can handle it on my own,” she added.

Justice Gertrude Torkornoo is currently on suspension pending the outcome of an investigation Justice Gertrude Torkornoo is currently on suspension pending the outcome of an investigation

The Commonwealth Lawyers Association and the Bar Council of England and Wales have called on President John Dramani Mahama to rescind his suspension of the Chief Justice of Ghana, Gertrude Araba Sackey Torkornoo.

In a joint statement issued on August 14, 2025, the lawyers, while noting some issues surrounding the ongoing removal proceedings against the Chief Justice, made key demands, including a fair and transparent process in the ongoing impeachment proceedings.

“Immediately and without delay, reinstate the Chief Justice of Ghana to her Office, consistent with both the hitherto strong attachment to the rule of law demonstrated by Ghana and also the constitutional duties incumbent upon them; and

“Afford the Chief Justice due and fair process in the investigation and determination of the disciplinary matters brought against her, including (but not limited to) full and transparent access to that process by her legal representatives,” the statement said.

High Court dismisses Torkornoo’s judicial review application

On the need for transparency, the lawyers demanded a clear procedure, including timelines, to guide the investigative process.

“Provide clear and transparent rules of procedure to guide the disciplinary process, which must include the time frame within which the investigating committee must conclude the disciplinary process against the Chief Justice, without any further delay, and communicate the decision of that process to all concerned in upholding the rule of law in Ghana,” the statement said.

The ongoing disciplinary process against the Chief Justice is based on three petitions asking for her removal.

President Mahama, acting on a prima facie case established by the Council of State, suspended Justice Torkornoo pending the outcome of an investigation by a five-member committee constituted by the president.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Attorney-General has asked a High Court to strike out a second review application filed by Justice Torkornoo, who is seeking a dismissal of one of the petitions against her.
