Shatta Wale isn’t the only one, more artistes will be arrested by EOCO

Following Shatta Wale’s detention by EOCO over his 2019 Lamborghini Urus, which is suspected to be linked to proceeds of fraud, media personality Blakk Rasta has claimed that the Dancehall artiste will not be the only one to face such scrutiny.

In a video posted on his YouTube channel, Blakk Rasta said the development involving Shatta Wale marks the beginning of an investigation that could implicate more names from the Ghanaian music industry.

Shatta Wale addresses fans after EOCO release

According to him, some artistes are involved in criminal activities ranging from car theft to the purchase of stolen vehicles and other illicit items.

He added that certain individuals in the industry should not even be referred to as musicians, as their actions suggest they are more aligned with crime than with artistry.

Key takeaways from EOCO’s statement on Shatta Wale’s Lamborghini case

“This is not the end of artistes involved in criminal activities including car theft, buying stolen cars and buying objects. There are more artistes from Ghana that are going to come up in this. Shatta is not the only artiste. I feel like mentioning names but I would not. There are some other people in the pipeline and when you look at their modus operandi, they are not supposed to be called artistes,” Blakk Rasta stated.

Meanwhile, Shatta Wale has been released from EOCO’s custody after spending nearly 24 hours in detention. The musician was granted bail following a review of his conditions.

His management confirmed that the initial bail set at GH¢10 million with two sureties was reduced to GH¢5 million with two sureties, allowing him to return home.

“The good news is that he has been granted bail and has been released to go home. The bail condition was reviewed from GH¢10 million to GH¢5 million with two sureties and that is what we are all happy about,” Shatta Wale’s media manager, Sammy Flex, told the media after his release on August 21, 2025.

A disturbing practice hidden in plain sight is about to be fully exposed.

For two weeks, GhanaWeb has teased readers and viewers of its upcoming documentary, “Sex for Fish,” which looks at the grim truth behind the exploitation teenage girls — a hard-hitting investigation into the demeaning culture at Ntsin, a small coastal town in the heart of Cape Coast, where young girls are lured into sexual encounters by men in exchange for things as basic as fish.

The teaser alone has gripped the nation, pulling in more than 60,000 views online, further sparking heated conversations about the deep-rooted social cankers that fuel teenage pregnancy and exploitation in Ghana’s coastal communities.

Now, the full story will finally be told. On Monday, August 25, GhanaWeb will release the complete documentary, laying bare how desperation, poverty, and predatory behavior combine to strip young women of their dignities and their futures — all for what locals simply call “Sex for Fish.”

“Sex for Fish” goes beyond shocking revelations. It digs into the human cost, the silent sufferings of girls caught in this trap, and the uncomfortable questions society must face about culture, neglect, and accountability.

This is not just another documentary. It is a mirror held up to a painful reality that many would rather ignore.

Watch the full documentary premiere on GhanaWeb TV on Monday, August 25, 2025.

‘Winning the Champions League with Porto means more than with Barcelona’ — Mourinho shades Guardiola

0

Pep (L) and Jose (R) were coaches of Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively Pep (L) and Jose (R) were coaches of Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively

Legendary Portuguese coach, Jose Mourinho has reignited memories of his long-running rivalry with Pep Guardiola after reflecting on his greatest career achievements.

When asked if he considers himself one of the all-time great managers, during an interview with SportyNet, Mourinho did not hesitate to agree with the assertion.

He went on to explain that greatness in football is not only about winning trophies but also about the context of those victories.

“Because of all I’ve won, I think football is still measured by wins. And there’s something that makes me feel even better, which is to win, where I won, in the way I won. Because winning the Champions League with Porto is not the same as winning it with Barcelona. Winning the Champions League with Inter is not the same as winning it with Real Madrid,” Mourinho said.

The remarks were widely interpreted as a subtle dig at Guardiola, whose Champions League triumphs came with a Barcelona side often hailed as one of the greatest teams ever.

‘He’s got the power to go’ – Bournemouth fans unveil catchy chant for Antoine Semenyo

Mourinho, in contrast, lifted the trophy with Porto in 2004 and Inter Milan in 2010, feats regarded as monumental underdog triumphs.

The Portuguese also addressed his spell at Real Madrid, where he ended Barcelona’s domestic dominance under Guardiola.

“You might say that I was at Real Madrid and I didn’t win the Champions League. No, I didn’t, but I won the league title and the cup title against the best team in the world, which was Barcelona, and I broke a huge cycle of Barcelona dominating Real Madrid.”

He capped his reflections with his achievement at Roma, then gave a very good verdict of his career.

“Also, my last European title with Roma, which is Roma’s only ever European title. Having not only the number of titles I have but also the way I have done it, if you don’t think I’m one of the greatest, I have to disagree,” he added.

EOCO Lamborghini Probe: Shatta Wale Released On GH¢5m Bail

Dancehall superstar Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, was released on a GH¢5m revised bail yesterday, following his struggles to meet the initial GH¢10 million with two sureties to be justified terms set by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

The self-acclaimed ‘Dancehall King’ was detained on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, in connection with investigations related to his purchase of a Lamborghini Urus which has been linked to $4 million crime by a Ghanaian, Nana Kwabena Amuah, who is serving jail time in the United States.

The interrogation, which dragged for about four hours inside EOCO’s Accra headquarters, focused on the artist’s yellow Lamborghini which was seized by EOCO as part of investigations.

Shatta Wale and his lawyers eventually met the revised terms, which include the artist reporting to EOCO three times a week, and was released from custody, sparing him another night in the custody of the anti-graft body.

On Thursday morning, tension had spilt onto the streets when news broke of Shatta Wale’s detention. Scores of fans gathered outside EOCO’s Accra headquarters, chanting, waving placards, and demanding the immediate release of the ‘I Know My Level’ singer.

The atmosphere was charged, with police officers on standby to control the crowd. A man dressed in traditionalist apparel was seen pouring libation at the EOCO premises, after which he broke the schnapps bottle on the floor.

EOCO, in a statement, disclosed that Shatta Wale has not been able to identify the person from whom he purchased the said Lamborghini Urus vehicle, except to say that he purchased it from the “Street.”

Shatta Wale is also reported to have told investigators that he purchased the luxury vehicle from someone possibly called ‘ZAK’ who may have contacted him on messaging platform WhatsApp.

However, the self-acclaimed ‘Dancehall King’ says he does not know the identity of the said ‘ZAK’ and he has since deleted his contact.

“Charles Nii Armah Mensah does not also possess any documentation in terms of receipt or transfer documents which shows that he owns or purchased the said vehicle, except a custom declaration document in his possession bearing the name of Nana Kwabena Amuah, who is currently in jail,” EOCO added.

EOCO had maintained that the artist would be released once the sureties are presented and surety inspection is completed successfully—a standard protocol in all bail conditions.

Shatta Wale’s manager, Samuel Atuobi Baah, popularly known as Sammy Flex, confirmed that the artist had reported to the EOCO voluntarily.

“He went there himself on Wednesday afternoon as a law-abiding citizen. This is not about money laundering—it is about clarifying tax responsibilities and the vehicle,” he explained in a video statement on X.

The invitation to Shatta Wale was fueled by him publicly claiming on August 5, 2025, that he purchased the car at a price of $150,000 from an unidentified party.

The meeting, which was initially scheduled for August 13, was rescheduled to August 20.

However, his lawyer indicated to EOCO that Shatta Wale was not available to attend on that day and that he (lawyer) was also busy. EOCO insisted they should report as scheduled.

Shatta Wale eventually went to EOCO on August 20 at about 3pm, with his lawyer arriving two hours later.

EOCO said despite the late arrival, its officers decided to conduct the interrogation which ended at 9pm.

Admirable Kinky Hairstyles Every Lady Should Try

0

Kinky hairstyles have a timeless appeal, blending cultural pride with modern flair. They are versatile, stylish, and can be tailored to suit different face shapes, occasions, and personalities.

One of the key advantages of kinky hairstyles is their protective nature. The tightly coiled strands help reduce hair breakage and shield natural hair from environmental damage. Popular options include kinky twists, Afro puffs, coily updos, and kinky crochet braids. These styles not only keep your hair healthy but also exude confidence and authenticity.

For a chic and contemporary look, try kinky twists styled into a high bun or half-up, half-down design. This creates a refined yet playful appearance suitable for work, dates, or casual outings. If you want something more carefree, Afro puffs and loose kinky curls are perfect for weekend events or parties, giving you that fun and bouncy vibe.

Kinky hairstyles can also be accessorized beautifully. Hair cuffs, beads, scarves, and colorful wraps can elevate the look instantly, adding a pop of personality. For weddings or formal occasions, a well-shaped kinky updo with subtle accessories offers an elegant, regal finish that stands out.

Maintaining kinky styles is easier than many think. With proper moisturizing, occasional detangling, and gentle handling, you can keep them fresh for weeks. They also allow for flexibility, you can switch from a corporate style to a glamorous evening look with minimal effort.

Whether you’re embracing your natural curls or exploring kinky extensions, these styles will not only enhance your beauty but also make a statement wherever you go. Every woman deserves to feel bold, elegant, and authentically herself and kinky hairstyles are a perfect way to achieve that.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, making the announcement, said four days have been set aside for the funeral (Dote Yie) of the departed Asante queen.

Speaking through a linguist during the one-week observance of the late queen, Otumfuo said a ban has been placed on funerals, starting from September 1, 2025 until further notice.

He announced that Nana Konadu Yiadom III’s ‘Dote Yie’ would officially commence at the Manhyia Palace on Sunday, September 14, 2025, when the queen will be laid in state.

According to Otumfuo, public viewing of the body of the late queen would start on Monday, September 15 until Thursday, September 18, when she would be buried in the night.

Prior to the burial, he announced that a church service would be held at the ‘Dwabirem’ in Manhyia Palace on Thursday afternoon, ahead of the interment in the night.

The Asantehene stated that all shops in Kumasi should remain closed on Thursday, September 18, 2025 in reverence for the departed Asante queen, urging the public to take note.

“All shops should remain closed on Thursday, September 18, 2025. That’s the day that our departed queen will be buried, so everybody should take note and act accordingly,” he stressed.

Residents of Kumasi and the nearby communities were also admonished by the Asantehene to remain indoors on Thursday night, as the Asante queen makes her final journey home.

Tears flow for Asantehemaa

There were emotional scenes at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi during the one-week observance of the late Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III, which was held at the forecourt of the Manhyia Palace yesterday.

Scores of mourners, especially women from the royal Oyoko family of Asante the Kingdom, were seen openly shedding uncontrollable tears for the departed Asante queen, who passed on at the age of 98 on August 7, 2025.

The intense wailing by the mourners, which started early on Thursday morning, continued for many hours, especially in the Asantehemaa’s palace in Manhyia, which was then crowded with colossal number of people from all walks of life.

Later in the afternoon, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, also sat in state at the forecourt of the Manhyia Palace, the official venue for the one-week observance of the late Asante queen.

Otumfuo, who was dressed in black cloth with a black headgear to match, was seated in state and surrounded by his sword bearers, numerous servants and prominent traditional leaders to welcome the mourners.

Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang

President John Dramani Mahama, who is currently outside the country for an official assignment, was represented by the Vice President, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, who led a powerful government delegation to the solemn ceremony.

The government’s delegation include the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Seth Terkper, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Fiifi Kwetey, Alex Segbefia, Ofosu Ampofo, Ken Adjei and other top government officials.

The Vice President, in a statement read on her behalf, announced that it was the wish of President Mahama to attend the one-week observance of the late Asantehemaa but he couldn’t make it due to a national assignment abroad.

Kufuor, Nana, Bawumia, mourn with Otumfuo

Former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as well as former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his running mate for the 2024 polls, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh aka ‘Napo’, were also present at the one-week observance of the late Asante queen.

Also in attendance were virtually all the paramount chiefs of Asanteman Traditional Council, members of the Kumasi Traditional Council (KTC), divisional chiefs, the clergy, business moguls, and members of the diplomatic corps.

Firing of Musketry

Significantly, the solemn occasion was characterised by the firing of musketry, which was to portray to the world that indeed Asanteman was in mourning. The event also witnessed the singing of dirges by the various cultural groups in Asante.

Fetish Priests Display

Prior to the one-week observance in the afternoon, a number of powerful fetish priests in Asanteman, who are said to have supernatural powers, had displayed their magical powers in front of the Asantehemaa’s palace to entertain a huge crowd.

Tight Security

Meanwhile, security was very tight as a combined team of police and the military were seen doing their utmost best to control the sea of mourners, who were all dressed in dark clothes.

Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who is the 14th Asante Queen, reigned for eight years before joining her ancestors. She was an elder sister of Otumfuo. Nana Konadu Yiadom III succeeded her late mother, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II in 2017. She was widely described as a wise, visionary, peaceful and hardworking queen, who was a mother for all.

“Nollywood no longer passion-driven, everybody now focused on BBL and makeup” – Actress Bimbo Akintola

Veteran Nollywood actress Bimbo Akintola has shared her thoughts on how the industry has changed over the years.

In a recent interview, the actress said the Nollywood of today is more focused on appearance than passion, unlike when she and her colleagues started out.

According to her, back then actors were driven purely by hunger and passion, not money or glamour. She recalled how they would work long hours, even overnight, without caring about food or pay, just to bring stories to life.

Akintola mentioned that legends like Joke Silva and Shola Sobowale were also passionate about their craft, prioritising the art over comfort.

She added that things are different now, as many actors are more concerned about makeup, outfits, and looks, even going as far as doing BBLs.

“The passion is gone… it’s now about looks, not content,” she said, stressing that looks will fade but true artistry lasts.

Labour minister urges stronger social partnerships to drive workplace productivity

0

The Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, has underscored the importance of stronger collaboration among workers, employers, and the government to enhance productivity and strengthen the country’s economy.

Delivering the keynote address at the 12th Quadrennial Delegates’ Conference of the Industrial and Commercial Workers’ Union (ICU-Ghana) on Thursday at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Dr Pelpuo described workplace productivity as the “backbone of any successful economy” and a critical driver of job creation and improved living standards.

Speaking on the theme “Enhancing Productivity at the Workplace: The Role of Social Partners,” the Minister highlighted that Ghana has achieved moderate growth in labour productivity since 1991, surpassing the average performance of lower-middle-income countries but still behind upper-middle-income peers.

He noted that while productivity has seen gains in the mining sector, other industries with potential to generate decent jobs and drive technological modernisation continue to grow at a slower pace.

“Ghana’s labour market continues to be dominated by informality, unemployment and underemployment,” Dr Pelpuo stated. “This reality underscores the need for social partners to step up efforts in fostering innovation, creativity, and efficiency at the workplace.”

He commended ICU-Ghana for its long-standing commitment to advancing workers’ welfare and its proactive role in shaping national discourse on labour. “Your tireless efforts continue to make a lasting impact on the lives of workers and the broader community,” he said, adding that the union’s legacy of advocacy and service was vital in promoting a fairer and more prosperous society.

Dr Pelpuo emphasised the role of employers in motivating and sustaining productivity through fair wages, benefits, training, and a supportive workplace culture. He stressed that fostering teamwork, promoting work-life balance, and prioritising social dialogue would be crucial in building positive work environments.

“As we move forward, I urge all stakeholders to engage actively in social dialogue and collaboration. By prioritising open communication, mutual respect, and trust, we can unlock the full potential of our workforce and drive productivity, innovation, and growth.”

The Minister expressed optimism about the future of the country’s workplaces, stating that with strengthened partnerships between workers, employers, and government, the country could create “a thriving work environment that is conducive to employee well-being, creativity, and productivity.”

The ICU-Ghana conference brought together delegates, labour leaders, and stakeholders to deliberate on issues shaping the world of work, as the union marked another milestone in its decades-long service to the Ghanaian workforce.

Why Chelsea should not sell Nicholas Jackson – Mikel Obi explains

Mikel Obi (R) has advised Nicholas Jackson (L) to stay at Chelsea Mikel Obi (R) has advised Nicholas Jackson (L) to stay at Chelsea

Former Nigerian footballer, Mikel Obi has urged Premier League side Chelsea to keep hold of Senegalese striker Nicolas Jackson due to his footballing prowess.

He explained that Jackson is a player who possesses a lot of quality as an attacker in terms of scoring and contributing to build-up play as a forward.

The former Chelsea midfielder asserted that Jackson’s presence at the club will augment the team’s attack and create competition despite his wastefulness in-front of goal.

Speaking on The Obi One podcast, the former captain of the Super Eagles advised Jackson to stay at Chelsea for the 2025/2026 season to help his football career.

“I’m happy that the club has gone on and done that business and brought in two strikers. And I’m hearing that Nicolas Jackson wants to leave. I hope he stays, because I still think he has a massive part to play this season, going forward in this football club.

“I’ve said it, he’s a fantastic player. The qualities that he brings into the football club, I think we need that. If he stays, I’m very happy if he stays,” he said.

Obi further urged the Blues hierarchy to strengthen the defensive setup of the team following the injury to Levi Colwill and other top defenders.

“So for me, his [Colwill] absence is going to be massively missed. So I think the club obviously knows we have to go back into the market and try to strengthen that position. I think now everybody can see what I’ve been saying all along, that all we need is competition. It just pushes everybody to take their game to the next level,” he added.

Meanwhile, Jackson has had limited playing time following the arrival of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap.

Reports indicate that Bayern Munich and Aston Villa have registered interest in the Senegalese striker but nothing has been finalised yet.

I was sexually abused by armed robbers and it has left me devastated

0

File photo of a worried woman File photo of a worried woman

I’m a 29-year-old woman, married for three years but with no kids yet. An incident happened and it left me traumatised.

I was robbed somewhere last year. The robbers were four guys, I was driving home from work around 7:30pm. We had just moved to our new home, barely a month.

One crossed me and I stopped, then he fell and started shaking. I got down to check on him and the others came to grab me. They made me sit in the car with them, I sat at the back while two was in front and two were at the back with me.

We were parked, but if anyone passed, they wouldn’t suspect there was a robbery going on and they had knives pointing at me so I couldn’t shout.

They took my phones and made me transfer all my money from my momo and from bank to a particular number and then they asked the person to withdraw the money immediately he received it.

They also took my phone and laptop. The two at the back started inserting their finger into my private part.

The others in front asked them to leave me but they wouldn’t. They forced me to sit on them in the car and ride them. One of the guys said I should give him blowjob as I was sitting on the other. They slept with me against my will. We stayed there for almost 40 minutes.

They left me with nothing, just my car. I was shaking, so I had someone call my husband to come and take me home.

It’s almost a year and I haven’t been able to drive again. Anytime I sit in the car, I get scared. I’m also scared of people, men especially. I haven’t enjoyed sex ever since. I don’t even have the urge for it.

I honestly haven’t been able to recover. I don’t know what to do. My husband is a very good man and he has been there every step on the way.

He has been supportive but I just cannot recover.

The police couldn’t find the armed robbers. I honestly feel depressed, I just don’t know what to do anymore. I’ve seen a therapist for over six months but I see no improvement. What can I do at this point?

‘Nobody should dare invite me to EOCO or come to my house’ – Shatta Wale warns Raymond Archer

Shatta Wale (R) has now praised Raymond Archer (L) Shatta Wale (R) has now praised Raymond Archer (L)

Renowned Ghanaian artiste, Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, was released on a GH¢5 million bail on Thursday, August 21, 2025, after several hours of interrogation by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

EOCO had stated that it invited Shatta Wale and interrogated him about his seized 2019 Lamborghini Urus, which had been identified by the United States (US) Justice Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as the proceeds of a $4 million crime involving a Ghanaian, Nana Kwabena Amuah, who has been jailed in the US.

Following his release, Shatta Wale praised EOCO and its Acting Executive Director, Raymond Archer, for their professionalism, saying, “To all the staff of EOCO, you have been wonderful. At least when I came there, you really took me through the rightful processes that were needed. I just want to say God bless you. Mr Raymond Archer, I want to thank you so much for your understanding.”

But this was not the case just weeks ago, after his Lamborghini Urus was seized.

Shatta Wale took to social media to chastise the EOCO boss and his outfit over the operation which led to the seizure of the car.

He warned EOCO and its Acting Executive Director, Raymond Archer, following what he described as an “unprovoked armed raid” on his residence.

In a TikTok live on August 5, 2025, the artiste expressed outrage over the incident and cautioned EOCO against making any further attempts to contact or invite him concerning an ongoing investigation.

“Raymond Archer, I will leave the car for you people. Don’t come to my house. Don’t let anybody invite me. That’s why I have bought a new Lamborghini,” he fumed.

“After this matter, Raymond Archer, don’t even try to invite me or else it will be worse in this country,” he added.

Shatta Wale accused the EOCO boss of using his position to harass citizens and warned that such actions could have political consequences for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The musician, who admitted that the car at the center of EOCO’s interest was bought for $150,000, insisted he did not know of its alleged links to financial crimes.

He made it clear he wanted no further contact with EOCO.

Shatta Wale further lamented the treatment he has received despite his contributions to the Ghanaian music industry, adding that the ongoing situation could push him into politics.

“My music, the way I have suffered, and how they are treating me in this country, one day I will wake up and become president,” he said.

Stolen Cars: Here are four car brands to be highly suspicious of

EOCO flags Honda CR-Vs, Ford F-150s, Range Rovers, and Dodge Rams EOCO flags Honda CR-Vs, Ford F-150s, Range Rovers, and Dodge Rams

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has raised alarm over four car brands that are suspicious in Ghana, following an Interpol alert that Ghana is a hub for stolen cars.

The four car brands are Honda CR-Vs, Ford F-150 pickups, Range Rovers, and Dodge models.

DVLA to introduce new number plates

In an intensified crackdown on stolen cars, EOCO said that these four brands account for the majority of cases intercepted.

The international security organisation Interpol has flagged Ghana as a growing hub for stolen vehicles, particularly those originating from Canada and the United States.

Shatta Wale failed to identify ownership of Lamborghini under investigation – EOCO

The Head of EOCO’s Legal Unit, Leo Anthony Siamah, warned buyers to be circumspect on the purchase of such cars and conduct due diligence when buying certain car models.

“There are certain types of vehicles that are suspicious. For instance, the Honda CR-V series, the Ford F-150, the Range Rover, and I think the Dodge Ram. These are four brands that are very high in terms of the number of stolen vehicles we recover. Most of them happen to be these vehicles. So, obviously, if you are going to purchase one of those vehicles, that should be a red flag for you,” he said.

The crime office also noted that its operations are not limited to these models.

“We’ve gone after a couple of Toyota Highlanders and Honda Accords. So, it’s not like we have a preference,” Siamah clarified.

EOCO has also warned against buying “too new and accident-free” vehicles on the Ghanaian market, especially 2023 and 2024 models.

Siamah advised that before buying newer models of accident-free cars, due diligence must be conducted since the Ghanaian market traditionally deals in salvaged or accident-damaged imports.

He urged the public to take advantage of Interpol’s database and other verification systems before making vehicle purchases.

“If you look at one of those vehicles that was recently released, maybe a 2023 model, 2024 model, which is accident-free, it should be a red flag for you. That should point you to doing extra — for instance, go to Interpol to find out whether or not that car’s status is stolen,” he advised.

How Kwesi Appiah dropped Afriyie Acquah for Derek Boateng in 2013 but promised him a World Cup spot

Former Black Stars coach, James Kwasi Appiah Former Black Stars coach, James Kwasi Appiah

Former Black Stars midfielder, Afriyie Acquah has described former Ghana coach, James Kwasi Appiah as a man of integrity “who doesn’t promise and fail”.

According to Afriyie Acquah, he was hopeful of making the trip to South Africa for the 2013 AFCON but he was dropped despite being a constant member of the team that played the qualifiers against Lesotho, Zambia, Malawi, and Sudan.

The former Torino midfielder, however, was not hurt about his exclusion because coach Kwasi Appaih explained why he was dropped before making him a pledge for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

In an interview with GMS Sports on YouTube, Afriyie Acquah said Kwasi Appiah told him that the 2013 AFCON will be Derek Boateng’s last tournament for the Black Stars and he will take over from him after that.

“I thought i was going to the AFCON but i was dropped from the squad. The coach told me why he dropped me and i understood his decision. I wasn’t angry or sad because his explanation made perfect sense because he said i will go to the 2014 World Cup.”

“Kwasi Appiah told me the AFCON will be Derek Boateng’s last tournament and i will take over from him. He promised to take me to the World Cup and he did just that. He fulfilled his promise to me and that was very important to me.

Meanwhile, Afriyie Acquah scored his first goal for the Black Stars in Ghana’s 1-0 win over Malawi on October 13, 2012, in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Fans Tell EOCO to Forget Shatta Wale and Chase Looted State Funds

0

In a surprising turn in the public storm surrounding the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) and dancehall icon Shatta Wale, members of the Bhim Nation fanbase, loyal to his industry rival Stonebwoy, have voiced a sharp shift in focus. According to social commentator Gbande, Bhim Nation supporters have distanced themselves from the uproar over Wale’s detention and are instead urging EOCO to channel its energy into retrieving state funds allegedly siphoned by former government appointees.

Gbande noted that the posture of Bhim Nation stands in stark contrast to the swelling waves of protest from Shatta Movement fans, who have besieged EOCO headquarters demanding the release of their idol. Rather than joining in the rivalry-fueled chaos, Bhim Nation appears to be framing the issue within the broader context of accountability and governance.

For them, Wale’s case centred on ownership documents of a Lamborghini Urus and alleged irregularities should not eclipse the more pressing national concern of recovering millions of cedis said to have been lost through corruption. They argue that EOCO’s credibility rests not on headline-making arrests of celebrities but on decisive action against individuals whose mismanagement or looting directly affects public welfare.

The development adds an intriguing twist to Ghana’s entertainment-political landscape, where fan bases often mirror the intensity of party loyalists. While Shatta Movement has turned the EOCO saga into a battle for their star’s dignity, Bhim Nation has positioned itself as defenders of public interest, demanding that the agency “go after the big fish” rather than being distracted by showbiz noise.

Political watchers suggest this positioning could elevate Stonebwoy’s fan community as socially conscious actors, carving a unique identity in contrast to the often combustible Shatta Movement. However, critics argue that the rivalry may itself be diverting attention from systemic failures in addressing corruption.

As the EOCO investigation unfolds, the clash of fan philosophies underscores how celebrity influence in Ghana continues to spill beyond music, shaping discourses on governance, justice, and national priorities.

Would you like me to also draft a sequel piece imagining how Shatta Movement might respond to Bhim Nation’s stance?

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar David Adedeji Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, and his wife Chioma Rowland Adeleke, have been spotlighted by global fashion magazine Vogue, which featured their high-profile white wedding in Miami, United States. The magazine, which rarely features Nigerians, published the story today, August 21, 2025, and Davido shared it on X shortly after.

Environmental Justice Foundation | Environmental Justice Foundation…

Cape Coast, 22 August 2025, 09:00

The Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) today celebrates a landmark moment for Ghana’s fisheries: the President has given his full assent to the Fisheries and Aquaculture Bill, without amendments. This bold act of leadership will help to build effective protection for Ghana’s small-scale fishers, strengthen food security, and lay the foundation for marine ecosystems to recover.

By signing the Bill into law exactly as passed by Parliament, the President has shown a clear commitment to safeguarding the livelihoods of over 200,000 small-scale fishers and the millions of Ghanaians who depend on fish as a vital source of food and income, says EJF.

The Fisheries and Aquaculture Bill introduces critical reforms, including the long-awaited expansion of Ghana’s Inshore Exclusive Zone (IEZ) from 6 to 12 nautical miles. Reserved for artisanal fishers, this extended area will shield them from destructive industrial trawlers that have too often encroached illegally, killed fishers in collisions, destroyed their nets, and depleted fish populations.

Hon. Emelia Arthur, Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, has been instrumental in ensuring this victory for Ghana’s oceans and people. Her strong leadership and unwavering commitment to equitable and sustainable fisheries have been pivotal in achieving a law that puts the welfare of Ghana’s coastal communities at its heart, says EJF.

This new law also represents a significant step toward lifting the European Union’s ‘yellow card’ trade warning against Ghana, according to the NGO. By enshrining stronger measures to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing and enhancing fisheries transparency, the Bill gives regulators and enforcement agencies the tools they need to act decisively against law-breaking vessels. With these new powers, Ghana can demonstrate to international partners that it is serious about reforming fisheries management and protecting the nation’s marine resources.

Steve Trent, CEO and Founder of EJF, said: “This new law marks a turning point for Ghana’s fisheries and coastal communities. The President’s assent to the Fisheries and Aquaculture Bill sends a clear signal of leadership, vision, and commitment to the millions of people who rely on a healthy ocean. By supporting small-scale fishers, safeguarding food security, and tackling illegal industrial fishing head-on, Ghana has set a course for a sustainable and equitable future. We commend the President, Minister Arthur and Ghana’s parliament for this bold step forward.”

The passage of the Bill comes at a critical time: more than 90% of artisanal fishers report declining catches, while populations of small pelagic species such as sardinella have almost entirely collapsed in a matter of years. Without urgent action, Ghana risked losing not only a vital food source but also a cornerstone of national culture and livelihoods.

EJF emphasises, however, that the focus must now shift to swift and complete implementation. Laws alone cannot deliver change without consistent and robust enforcement. With effective monitoring, transparent governance, and strong penalties for illegal operators, the Bill can deliver on its promise of rebuilding Ghana’s fisheries and protecting ocean ecosystems for generations to come.

Ghana Revenue Authority Confident in Meeting Year-End Targets

0

Anthony Kwasi Sarpong
Mr. Anthony Kwasi Sarpong is newly appointed Commissioner-General at the GRA

The head of Ghana’s tax agency says a series of modernization efforts will help the country meet its revenue goals this year.

Anthony Kwasi Sarpong, Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority, expressed strong confidence in achieving or even surpassing annual targets, thanks to tech upgrades and operational reforms.

Sarpong pointed to the Authority’s strong first-half performance, where it exceeded expectations by nearly 9 percent. He credited this to a motivated workforce, clearer leadership, and better collaboration with taxpayers. Still, he didn’t shy away from the ongoing struggles, especially within customs.

Slow, manual goods classification, disputes over origin, and smuggling continue to hurt local industries. In response, the GRA is turning to artificial intelligence to speed up and improve the accuracy of inspections. New systems will also provide advance cargo information to reduce delays and disputes.

The Tema Port is already showing what’s possible. It now runs around the clock with integrated agencies and online services, meaning traders can clear goods without ever setting foot on the docks. This kind of efficiency, Sarpong says, is key to making trade easier and more predictable.

But technology is only part of the solution. The GRA is also rotating staff regularly to keep operations fresh and reduce complacency. Engaging stakeholders—from trade groups to other government bodies—helps smooth the path for new policies.

The real test will be whether these reforms can translate into sustainable revenue that funds public services and protects local jobs. With half the year already strong, the Authority is betting that smarter systems and stronger partnerships will carry them through.

But can these tools keep up with determined smugglers and complex trade disputes? That’s the challenge ahead.

TAGG calls for urgent procurement of state aircraft for president

TAGG has called for urgent procurement of state aircraft for president TAGG has called for urgent procurement of state aircraft for president

The Traders Advocacy Group Ghana (TAGG) has called on the government and Parliament to take immediate steps to procure a modern state aircraft for presidential travels, stressing that the safety and dignity of the presidency must not be compromised.

In a statement signed by its General Secretary, Nana Opoku, the group expressed concern over what it described as the “inconveniences and risks” the President of the Republic recently faced during official travels abroad.

According to TAGG, Ghana, as a resource-rich nation, must rise above “pettiness” and confront the matter with urgency.

The group emphasised that securing a reliable, state-of-the-art aircraft for the President was not a matter of luxury or politics, but a critical issue of national security and responsibility.

“We cannot afford another tragedy or national calamity before action is taken. The Presidency is an institution that must be safeguarded at all costs. Protecting the President is equivalent to protecting the sovereignty and future of Ghana,” the statement read.

TAGG also drew parallels between the struggles of Ghanaian traders who travel abroad and the current inconveniences faced by the President, arguing that no leader of a sovereign state should be subjected to such challenges.

While acknowledging Ghana’s current economic difficulties, the advocacy group urged the government to take a bold decision to secure a durable and modern aircraft, cautioning against the purchase of outdated or substandard equipment that could endanger lives.

The group further outlined three key demands:

The safety of the President must remain non-negotiable.

Ghana’s dignity must be upheld on the international stage.

The aircraft must serve as a national asset and not a partisan tool.

Spotlight on some ‘nasty and silly’ red cards in football history

Nasty tackles often attract red cards in football Nasty tackles often attract red cards in football

Red cards in football have helped protect players from dangerous tackles that could ruin their careers and potentially cause severe damage to their health.

As players battle for laurels in the game, they are sometimes forced to make aggressive tackles to prevent their opponents from scoring or winning the ball.

There are moments where players are sent off for offensive fouls, accumulated yellow cards, or fighting their opponents out of anger and frustrations.

Robin van Persie received one of the harshest red cards in recent football history while playing for Arsenal against Barcelona in the Champions League in March 2011.

The Gunners went into the 2010-11 second-leg tie 2-1 up on aggregate after sealing a famous victory at the Emirates Stadium three weeks earlier.

Van Persie found himself through on goal with only Victor Valdes to beat but missed the target with his weaker right foot. Referee Massimo Busacca then stunned the Dutchman by flashing a second yellow card, followed by a red, in his direction.

Van Persie was penalized for shooting after Busacca had blown his whistle for an off-side and subsequently sent him off.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was caught in a frustrating situation when Manchester United were chasing Arsenal at the top of the Premier League in April 1998 and being held 1-1 by Newcastle at Old Trafford.

With two minutes to go, the Magpies surged forward on the counter-attack through Rob Lee, leaving the Norwegian – only recently introduced from the bench – with no choice but to hack him down to prevent a damaging winning goal for the visitors.

It was a cynical foul and an obvious sending-off.

For ladies who want to command attention without saying a word, a silk gown is a timeless investment piece that blends sophistication with undeniable allure. Whether you’re attending a formal dinner, a wedding reception, or an upscale evening event, silk gowns deliver the perfect balance of comfort and glamour.

The beauty of silk lies in its natural sheen and graceful drape, making it ideal for designs that enhance the feminine silhouette. Floor-length silk gowns with subtle ruching or draped bodices create an elegant flow that flatters every body type. For a more modern twist, opt for side slits, asymmetric necklines, or halter styles that show just the right amount of skin without losing class.

When accessorizing, remember that silk speaks loudly on its own. Minimalist jewelry, a chic clutch, and a pair of strappy heels are all you need to complete the look. Hairstyles should complement the gown, think sleek buns, soft waves, or elegant updos.

Ghana committed to fiscal stability, private sector expansion – Citinewsroom – Comprehensive News in Ghana

0

Government has assured of maintaining strict fiscal discipline while channeling investments into critical growth sectors to sustain Ghana’s recent economic rebound.

Chief of Staff at the Office of the President, Julius Debrah, says trade facilitation remains a top policy priority, as government seeks to unlock new opportunities for businesses and strengthen competitiveness in regional and global markets.

Speaking at the 2025 CEO Connect Summit organized by the Canada Ghana Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Debrah emphasized that prudent economic management and targeted investments are central to protecting Ghana’s growth momentum and creating a stronger foundation for private sector expansion.

“Our government continues to prioritize trade facilitation and infrastructure to ease the movement of goods and services across borders, macroeconomic stability, and reforms to ensure that Ghana remains a safe and attractive investment destination,” he said.

For his part, the Deputy Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Hon. Mohammed Adam Sukparu (MP), said that as Africa embraces the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), headquartered in Accra, its ability to integrate and prosper as one market is heavily dependent on digital technology, innovation, and strong partnerships.

He emphasized that digital tools and platforms are no longer optional but have become the very foundation of competitiveness, resilience, and global relevance.

“Under the leadership of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, Ghana is actively implementing bold policies and investments to establish a digitally enabled economy, ranging from e-governance platforms to digital financial inclusion and broadband expansion into rural communities, ensuring no one is left behind,” he said.

Meanwhile, some members of the Canada Ghana Chamber of Commerce have welcomed government’s plans to scrap the minimum capital requirement for foreign investors under the upcoming review of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) Act.

Executive Secretary of the Chamber, Edwina Atta-Sonno, told Channel One Business that the move could make Ghana a more attractive investment destination by lowering entry barriers.

“It is a brilliant idea in the sense that we have to make Ghana attractive for investors to come in. If our investment requirements are very high, we may not get them coming in,” she said.

DVLA to abolish displaying year of registration on vehicle number plates in 2026 and replace it with zonal codes

0

Ghanaian vehicle number plates have been using the current system since January 2009, which features a two-letter region code, followed by a four-digit numeric code, and a two-digit year code. But the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has said it will abolish displaying the year of registration on vehicle number plates from January 1, 2026.

The new system, according to the Chief Executive of the DVLA, Julius Neequaye Kotey will instead only identify vehicles by the region in which they were registered for example “Greater Accra” written on top of the plate, followed by the vehicle’s unique four-digit number and a code showing the zone within which the vehicle was registered.

For example, a vehicle registered within the Adenta zone in Greater Accra will have “AD” code at the end of the four-digit unique number, replacing where the year of registration, for example, “25” would have been displayed.

Mr Julius Neequaye Kotey disclosed this during a television interview with Channel One TV on the programme Face to Face aired on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, and monitored by Graphic Online.

He said the change will introduce regional names at the top of plates, followed by area codes showing which DVLA office processed the registration.

According to Mr Kotey, Ghana is the only country in the world that displays the year of registration on vehicle plates.

“There is no country in the world that puts year at the end [of the plate],” he said.

“When you go to the US, the UK or Germany, there is no single country that does this,” he said.

Under the new system, a Greater Accra plate would display “Greater Accra” at the top, with “GR 2224-AD” below, where GR represents Greater Accra Region and AD shows the Adenta office. An Ashanti Region plate would bear “Ashanti” on top and follow the format “AS 3520-KM”, with AS for Ashanti and KM representing Kumasi.

“Every region will have the name on top of it,” Mr Kotey explained. “So Greater Accra, the region code of Greater can be GR. After that, where the year of registration used to be, will now be the area code.”

When asked if the reform would make it easier to trace vehicles involved in crimes, Mr Kotey said specific plate identification was more effective than year-based descriptions.

“If you tell me someone has done a hit and run and the car is 2025 registered, there are a lot of 2025 cars in the system. How will I know the car? If you give the exact number, it is easier for DVLA to identify the person.”

Mr Kotey said the change is also aimed at curbing registration avoidance, which he said has resulted in many people opting to use the “DV” plates for private use and driving in town.

“Because of the year, some people are unwilling to register their cars,” he said.

According to him, this is to help prevent and limit the use of “DV” [Defective Vehicle] plates in the system, which ordinarily is supposed to be used by car dealers for specific reasons, when they only need to move the vehicle to a specific location for repairs or for a test drive for a potential buyer.

However, he said many private individuals are reluctant to register their vehicles and have been resorting to the use of DV plates all year round.

The implementation of the new proposal requires parliamentary approval to amend Legislative Instrument 68, which governs the Road Traffic Regulation. “We’ve done all the legal work. We need to amend LI 68, the road traffic regulation, and parliament is ready to approve it for implementation from January 2026,” Mr Kotey said.

He also advised vehicle owners not to delay registering their vehicles, expecting year-specific plates. “If you want to buy a car this year and leave it till [registration in 2026] so that you have 26 written on it in January, forget it, you won’t get it. Whether your car is 2022 registered or 2001 registered, we will all have the same format.”

The change forms part of new DVLA initiatives under Mr Kotey’s leadership.

He, however, did not give details on how this will help prevent or resolve a possible conflict of duplicate number plates appearing on vehicles registered in different years from the same region and zone.

Except that, he stressed that the new move was to discourage people from refraining from registering their vehicles because sometimes they are looking at resale value, depending on the year of registration.

A vehicle with a latest year of registration plate in Ghana tends to have a higher resale value than those with older years.

But for such vehicle owners, Mr Kotey said the DVLA was going to introduce an option where they can purchase “DV” plates for use within a year but it will be offered at an expensive price different from what is offered to vehicle dealers.

Before 2009, Ghana used different license plates that included a two-letter code indicating the region and a single letter at the end to denote the year of registration.

It was in 1994 that the single letter code and a numeric code was used, before phasing it out in 2009 when the single alphabet code got to “Z”.

For example, GR for Greater Accra and P as the year of registration 1998, Q for 1999, R for 2000, S for 2001, T for 2002, U for 2003, V for 2004, W for 2005, X for 2006, Y for 2007 and Z for 2008.

When the decision was taken in 1994 to change the plates, all vehicles in the system were re-registered within three years from 1994 to 1997, from “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” to “N” in 1997. Then the “P” started from 1998 and “Q” in 1999.

Below is the regional codes that are already in the system and are being used

Below are the codes for the various regions in Ghana;

AC, AE, AK, AP, AS, AW = Ashanti Region

BA, BR, BW = Bono Region

BT = Bono East Region

CR = Central Region

EN, ER, ES = Eastern Region

Elon Musk’s X Settles US$500 Million Severance Dispute with Former Staff

Elon Musk and his social media platform X have reached a tentative agreement to resolve a massive severance lawsuit.

The case was brought by nearly 6,000 former employees who claimed they were shortchanged after Musk’s takeover of the company, then called Twitter, in 2022.

The ex-workers, led by former HR head Courtney McMillian, argued they were entitled to up to six months of pay under the company’s own severance plan. Instead, many received just one month’s salary, and some got nothing at all after being laid off in a sweeping cost-cutting move.

Both sides confirmed the settlement in principle in a court filing this week. They asked a federal appeals court to pause an upcoming hearing while they finalize the details. The terms have not been disclosed and will need a judge’s approval.

The lawsuit was one of several major labor disputes that followed Musk’s aggressive restructuring of Twitter, which included cutting more than half of its workforce. The layoffs notably reduced teams responsible for trust and safety, human rights, and content moderation.

This case reflects a broader wave of tech industry retrenchment that also saw Meta, Google, and Microsoft shed tens of thousands of jobs. The question now is whether this settlement brings closure or encourages more challenges against tech giants over their treatment of employees.

Ghana Tax Authority Shifts from Enforcement to Partnership Model

Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA)
Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA)

The Ghana Revenue Authority is moving away from a strict enforcement approach to a more collaborative relationship with taxpayers, aiming to build trust and improve compliance.

Commissioner-General Anthony Kwasi Sarpong detailed the new strategy at a customer experience conference in Accra, highlighting the role of technology in this transformation.

The GRA has introduced online filing, faceless audits, electronic tax certificates, and a voluntary disclosure program to simplify processes and reduce frustration for taxpayers. These changes are part of a broader effort to make the authority more agile and customer-focused.

According to Sarpong, the shift is already showing positive results, though he acknowledged that the journey is ongoing. The human element is also being emphasized—staff are receiving training to handle taxpayer concerns with greater empathy and professionalism.

The authority has set an ambitious revenue target of GH¢200 billion by the end of the year, up from GH¢153 billion in 2024. This forms part of a medium-term plan to strengthen domestic revenue mobilization and improve Ghana’s tax-to-GDP ratio.

The Leader of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah, has criticized the General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Dr David Tenkorang-Twum, over his remarks against the Minister of Health.

According to him, the posture and remarks made by Dr Tenkorang-Twum reflect what he describes as ‘haughty and seemingly arrogant behavior,’ which he believes deserves broad condemnation.

Mornah, while acknowledging that disagreements may arise during engagements among leaders, highlighted the need for respectful dialogue and a dignified approach in such instances.

“… As a proud farmer, I assert that disagreements may arise, but the haughty and seemingly arrogant behavior of Dr David Tenkorang must be swiftly and firmly condemned. We should treat our leaders with dignity,” he said in Facebook post on August 21, 2025.

Mornah expressed his dismay, particularly at individuals who have supported the actions of the GRNMA General Secretary.

He stressed the need to respect every profession, especially farming, which was used to disparage the minister, highlighting the vital role it plays in ensuring the survival of Ghanaians through its food production.

“I am profoundly dismayed by the fervent defense mounted by some Ghanaians in support of the unmistakably derogatory comments made by the General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association against our Honorable Minister of Health, Minta Akandoh.

“It is crucial to acknowledge that no profession is subordinate to another. Indeed, farming is the oldest profession, and without farming, no person can survive,” he added.

The politician also condemned the violent attack on nurses at the Ridge Hospital, calling for calm and urging all parties to allow the committee set up to investigate the incident to complete its work and present its findings.

“We should also condemn the reported attack on a Nurse at the Ridge Hospital whilst we anticipate a speedy conclusion of the Committee set up to investigate the disturbance.”

‘I’ve not completely retired’ – KT Hammond – Citinewsroom – Comprehensive News in Ghana

0

Former Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, Kobina Tahiru Hammond, has hinted at a possible return to contest the constituency’s parliamentary seat in the 2028 elections.

According to him, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) did not win the Adansi Asokwa seat on merit but rather “by default.”

“I am not completely in retirement. I had to return to my law books to sharpen a few things. But I am not in retirement, if that is what you think. In any event, as I said, watch this space,” KT Hammond told journalists after the Obuasi High Court dismissed his petition challenging the election of Godwin Dorani as Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa.

He alleged that the 2024 parliamentary election in Adansi Asokwa was fraught with irregularities, including ballot boxes found at unauthorized locations.

“Those boxes, what were they doing at Lomito Clinic? Is that where we voted? You heard it in the script when he was telling me that I was complaining about some of my pink sheets. Just have a look at them.

“They had tippers, inks, and other things on them; it was crazy. There was a lot of mess attributed to this Adansi Asokwa election, and it was beyond description. I felt I had to contain myself,” he recounted.

KT Hammond further claimed that the situation was worsened by some New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters who refrained from voting, a development he believes contributed to the NDC’s win.

EOCO flags Honda CR-Vs, Ford F-150s, Range Rovers, and Dodges in crackdown on stolen cars

the Head of EOCO’s Legal Unit, Leo Anthony Siamah,

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has named Honda CR-Vs, Ford F-150 pickups, Range Rovers, and Dodge models as the top vehicle brands under suspicion in its latest operation against stolen cars trafficked into Ghana.

Interpol has already described Ghana as a lucrative hub for vehicles stolen mainly from Canada and the United States. EOCO says its investigations confirm that these four brands account for the majority of cases intercepted in recent months.

Speaking on Upfront with Blessed Sogah, the Head of EOCO’s Legal Unit, Leo Anthony Siamah, explained that buyers should be extra cautious when dealing in these models.

“There are certain types of vehicles that are suspicious. For instance, the Honda CR-V series, the Ford F-150, the Range Rover, and I think the Dodge Ram. These are four brands that are very high in terms of the number of stolen vehicles that we recover. Most of them happen to be these vehicles. So, obviously, if you are going to purchase one of those vehicles, that should be a red flag for you,” he said.

Mr Siamah also urged prospective car buyers to be mindful of vehicles that appear “too new and accident-free” on the Ghanaian market, especially 2023 and 2024 models. He noted that while the market traditionally dealt in salvaged or accident vehicles, the sudden availability of spotless newer models should prompt further checks.

“If you look at one of those vehicles that was recently released, maybe a 2023 model, 2024 model, which is accident-free, it should be a red flag for you. That should point you to doing extra for instance, go to Interpol to find out whether or not that car’s status is stolen,” he advised.

He noted that while Honda CR-Vs, Range Rovers, and others top the list, EOCO’s operations extend to other brands as well.

“Would you go after a Toyota Corolla, for instance? Yes. We’ve gone after a couple of Toyota Highlanders and Honda Accords. So, it’s not like we have a preference,” he clarified.

Billionaire Elon Musk and his social media firm X have reached a tentative settlement with former employees who had sued for $500m (£373m) in severance pay.

The parties reported the deal in a court filing on Wednesday, jointly requesting the US appeals court in San Francisco to postpone an upcoming hearing to allow time to settle the paperwork.

Some workers sued the company over their terminations and severance packages, after some 6,000 staff – more than half its workforce – were sacked as part of a cost-cutting measure after Musk took over the company in 2022.

The BBC has contacted X – formerly called Twitter – and the lawyers representing the employees for comment.

“The parties have reached a settlement agreement in principle and began negotiating the terms of a long form settlement agreement,” according to court documents filed by both sides, seen by the BBC.

Details of the agreement are not yet public and will require the courts’ approval.

The lawsuit, led by former Twitter employee Courtney McMillian, says about 6,000 people were wrongly denied benefits under the company’s severance plan.

They argued that the firm had failed to provide payments as high as six months’ worth of salaries, among other terms.

But Twitter only gave sacked workers at most one month of severance pay, while some did not receive anything, according to the lawsuit.

Musk axed thousands of Twitter staff globally, downsizing the platform’s trust and safety, human rights and media teams.

The Twitter layoffs was among the earliest in a series of retrenchments among tech firms to cut costs. Rank-and-file workers were often first to be laid off.

Many companies had gone on a hiring spree during the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic when the use of digital tools grew.

Companies like Facebook, Google and Microsoft laid off tens of thousands of workers in the years that followed.

Musk, who was appointed for several months to helm President Donald Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency, made similar moves when he axed thousands of federal workers earlier this year.

The department was tasked with reducing US government spending and cutting jobs.

KT Hammond eyes a possible return to parliament

KT Hammond says he has not retired from politics yet KT Hammond says he has not retired from politics yet

The former Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa in the Ashanti Region, Kobina Tahiru Hammond, has signalled a potential comeback in the 2028 elections, where he may contest the seat he lost to the National Democratic Congress in 2024.

Interacting with journalists after the Obuasi High Court dismissed his petition against Godwin Dorani, the current MP, Hammond expressed his intention to return to politics.

“I am not completely in retirement. I had to return to my law books to sharpen a few things. But I am not in retirement, if that is what you think. In any event, as I said, watch this space,” he posited.

Hammond believes the NDC’s victory in the 2024 parliamentary election was not due to their merits but rather circumstances.

He pointed to alleged irregularities during the election, including ballot boxes found at unauthorised locations, as some of the machinations that helped his opponent to defeat him at the polls in December last year.

People gift me money for ‘kicking’ KT Hammond out of Parliament – Adansi Asokwa MP

“Those boxes, what were they doing at Lomito Clinic? Is that where we voted? You heard it in the script when he was telling me that I was complaining about some of my pink sheets. Just have a look at them.” He alleged.

“They had tippers, inks, and other things on them; it was crazy. There was a lot of mess attributed to this Adansi Asokwa election, and it was beyond description. I felt I had to contain myself,” he alleged further.

Hammond took solace in a claim that some supporters of his New Patriotic Party abstained from voting during the last general elections held on December 7, 2024, a scenario he maintained contributed significantly to the NDC’s win.

With his sights set on a possible return to parliament, Hammond will become one of the longest-serving members of parliament if he is able to make a return in the near future.
