Ghana’s young weightlifters delivered an impressive performance on the opening day of the 2025 African Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships.

The tournament, taking place from August 18 to 22, 2025, at the Ga-Mashie Hall, Trust Sports Emporium in Accra, saw Ghana secure a bronze medal and set a new national record, a testament to the growing strength of the country’s youth sports programme.

The event features strong competition from 18 African countries, with Nigeria’s Ezenwa Chinaza Cecilia winning three medals in the 48kg youth category, underlining the high level of talent on display.

Ghana’s athletes, competing across various weight classes, brought pride to the nation, building on the country’s successful organisation of the weightlifting component of the 2023 African Games, which earned them hosting rights for this championship.

In an interview, head coach of the Ghana junior weightlifting team, Michael Johnson Abotsi, expressed pride in his athletes.

“You cannot expect a three-month-old baby to walk. I only trained this team for three months, and seeing one set a national record and another win a bronze medal makes me very happy,” he said.

He added, “You need to thank the coach for a good job. To train athletes for just three months under hardship and difficulties and still win a medal is not easy.”

The championships, an essential platform for young athletes aiming to qualify for the Africa Youth Games in Angola and the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, have spotlighted Ghana’s rising prominence in African weightlifting.

Burkina Faso declares UN coordinator persona non grata

Burkina Faso has declared United Nations (UN) regional coordinator Carol Flore-Smereczniak persona non grata over a UN report alleging violations against children in the West African country, a government spokesperson said on Monday.

Burkinabe authorities were neither involved in the preparation of the UN report, titled “Children and Armed Conflict in Burkina Faso”, nor informed of the study’s conclusions before publication, the government spokesperson said in a statement.

The United Nations expressed regret over the decision, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said on Monday.

“The Organisation is accorded privileges and immunities, including the right for its staff members to remain in Burkina Faso to perform their functions on behalf of the Organisation,” he said.

The government accused the UN of making baseless assertions and stating falsehoods in the report, without citing relevant investigations or court rulings.

Flore-Smereczniak, who was forced to leave the country, has more than 20 years of experience in development, security, humanitarian, conflict, and post-conflict settings and was appointed to the post in Burkina Faso last year, according to the UN.

Violence fuelled by a decade-long battle against Islamist militants linked to Al Qaeda and Islamic State has worsened in Burkina Faso and neighbouring countries, where power was seized in a series of coups from 2020 to 2023.

The UN has in the past condemned what it says have been killings, abuses, and abductions of children in the Sahel regional conflict, as well as the recruitment of child soldiers.

Dujarric reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to continue engaging with Burkina Faso’s authorities to support the nation and its people.

Diana Antwi-Hamilton

Award-winning Ghanaian gospel musician, Diana Antwi-Hamilton, has made a passionate appeal to the public to institute a structure that will stand as a symbol of remembrance for the departed public servants who lost their lives in the recent helicopter crash, which occurred on August 6, 2025 in Adansi Akrofuom, Ashanti Region.

In a post on her social media pages, the ‘Adom’ hitmaker offered an intensive prayer for the nation, calling on a united front to fight adversity and challenges that may confront the country.

She wrote, “Lord, we lift our cries to You. Reign in our homeland O God. In this period of pain and deep loss, we ask You to ‘cradle the souls’ of our dearly departed eight gallant sons of our land in Your eternal peace. Grant them rest in Your tender embrace, where suffering is no more. Comfort, Lord, the families left behind— their wives, children, mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters. Strengthen them through the weight of this grief, and surround them with love that will not falter. “Let this pain not revisit our land, let their memory stir in us a deeper love for country, for peace, and for one another. May their sacrifice never be forgotten. May Ghana always remember. Rest well, brave hearts. You served, you stood, you soared. Now, rest.”

Last Friday, a state funeral was held at the Black Star Square in Accra, to honour the eight victims of the tragic helicopter crash.

The ceremony was attended by President John Dramani Mahama,  Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Akufo-Addo, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Ministers of State, government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, the clergy, traditional leaders, bereaved families, and citizens from across the country.

The funeral service also featured tributes from government officials, institutional representatives, and family members.

The state funeral served as a moment of national mourning, recognising the dedicated service and sacrifice of the victims.

GHIB, Vista Bank Group Partner To Expand African Trade Financing

0

Dean Adansi and Serge Raymond with the signed agreement

Ghana International Bank (GHIB) has announced a strategic collaboration with Vista Bank Group at the CNVERGE ’25 conference, establishing a comprehensive partnership to enhance trade finance access across West African markets and strengthen intra-African banking cooperation.

The partnership, formalised through a signing ceremony in London, positions GHIB as the primary correspondent banking partner for Vista Bank Group’s operations across Gambia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, and Guinea.

The collaboration will leverage GHIB’s established global banking relationships to provide Vista Bank’s clients with enhanced access to international trade finance solutions and cross-border payment services.

“This partnership represents a tangible expression of our commitment to building Africa’s financial infrastructure,” Dean Adansi, Chief Executive Officer of GHIB said during the event.

“This partnership represents a tangible expression of our commitment to be Africa’s bridge to international finance and correspondent banking. We provide African Banking Groups like VISTA the critical access for funding, international trade finance and global payments that allows for expansion and growth. We have kept faith in providing this access to Africa, since 1959, and are honored to now deliver same to the VISTA Group,” Mr. Adansi added.

Vista Bank Group, through Vista Group Holding SA, operates as a pan-African financial services organisation focused on building world-class banking capabilities while contributing to economic and financial inclusion across Africa. The group maintains strategic operations in multiple West African markets, with particular strength in small and medium enterprise banking, trade finance, leasing services, and bancassurance products.

Under the partnership framework, GHIB will provide Vista Bank Group with correspondent banking services, international credit line access, and sophisticated trade finance instruments. This ‘TradeBridge’ approach enables Vista Bank’s clients, particularly small and medium enterprises, to access global markets through established international banking relationships that have historically been difficult for regional African banks to secure independently.

“Ghana International Bank has become our gateway to the global financial system. Where other international banks have been unable to provide the access we need, GHIB has demonstrated genuine commitment to African development through practical banking solutions. This partnership enables us to serve the backbone of African economies—the SMEs in Banjul, Dakar, Freetown, Ouagadougou, and Conakry—with world-class trade finance capabilities,” the Managing Director of Vista Bank France, Serge Raymond said at the signing ceremony.

The collaboration addresses critical market gaps in African trade finance, where regional banks have traditionally faced barriers in accessing international credit lines and correspondent banking services.

Through GHIB’s established global relationships, Vista Bank Group clients will gain access to letters of credit, trade guarantees, foreign exchange services, and international payment processing capabilities essential for participating in global commodity markets.

The collaboration will be implemented through GHIB’s existing infrastructure, utilizing the bank’s correspondent relationships with major international financial institutions to provide Vista Bank Group clients with seamless access to global trade finance markets. Initial services will include trade finance facilitation, cross-border payments, foreign exchange services, and credit line access, with additional capabilities to be developed based on market demand.

From Battlefield To Homes: Women Leading The Charge For Reconciliation In Conflict

0

Women from the Yennutoona Foundation-Ghana displaying their placards

“Say No to Conflict: Peace is a Necessary Ingredient,” “Peace is Wealth: Let’s Embrace It,” “Choose Peace, Choose Love,” were some of the statements displayed on the placards by a women’s group from the Naniik and Gberuk communities with the Yennutoona Foundation-Ghana, a non-profit organisation.

The women aimed to appeal to their husbands, who were involved in the ongoing conflict between the Naniik and Gberuk communities, advocating for reconciliation.

Carrying leaves as symbols of peace, love, and surrender, the women marched to the Bimbagu chief’s palace to express their displeasure over the persistent conflict involving their husbands, which has severely impacted economic activities and disrupted the peace of the area.

Their primary appeal is for a ceasefire between the Naniik and Gberuk communities, allowing peace to return to what were once vibrant communities.

From January, 2025, three people lost their lives in the land and chieftaincy-related incident between these communities near Bimbagu in the Bunkpurugu-Nakpanduri District of the North East region.

The violence resulted in the destruction of about 50 houses, with several persons sustaining injuries and properties worth thousands of Ghana Cedis damaged.

A visit to the Naniik and Gberuk communities by DAILY GUIDE revealed empty homes, and markets, as many men had fled their homes, leaving behind their wives and children.

The conflict has also led to the closure of schools and health facilities with looming food insecurity in the various communities because farmers could not farm this season over the fear of being attacked.

Olivia Duut, an entrepreneur and member of the Yennutoona Foundation-Ghana, described the conflict as a nightmare, recounting the incident of that fateful night.

“On that night, we heard gunshots and saw houses burning in our community. My husband and I ran out with our children, but they came to our house and burned it down, causing us to lose everything,” she said.

She recounted how her mini factory, where she baked bread and pastries for the Bimbagu area, was also destroyed.

“Sometimes, when I remember the destruction, I feel suicidal because I have lost everything I worked for over the years,” she recounted.

Olivia noted that living with her three children without her husband has become a challenge.

“My husband has relocated to southern Ghana due to the conflict, as any man seen around is at risk. It’s been very difficult for me to care for the children, especially since I have lost everything and I am currently unemployed. We had to move in with my brother in Nakpanduri, who is taking care of us, and my sisters have provided us with clothes and food,” she explained.

She appealed to the government for intervention to find a lasting solution to the conflict, calling for an urgent need for peace so they can return to their homes.

“This year, we haven’t been able to farm due to the conflict, and we lack the resources to care for our families. The government needs to help us,” Olivia disclosed.

Gatirika Bawa, another victim who lost her son, Bawa Suuk, 36, shared her painful experience with DAILY GUIDE, “They killed my son and burned down our house. We have lost everything and are currently homeless. I was forced to relocate back to my father’s house with my grandson, whose father was killed. I own land, but I can’t farm on it due to the ongoing conflict.”

Duubik Saman, an elder at the Bimbagu Chief Palace, commended the Yennutoona Foundation-Ghana for their efforts to encourage both feuding factions to pursue peace and assured that the palace is open to dialogue to restore peace in the community.

Bimbagu Electoral Area Assemblyman

Baanam Tampiuk, the Assemblyman for the Bimbagu Electoral Area, told DAILY GUIDE that the conflict has created fear and panic among people from neighboring communities.

“Traveling through the two communities to Bunkpurugu has become scary, as anyone can be a target, creating fear among residents of surrounding communities,” he noted.

He assured of his commitment to working towards restoring peace in the Bimbagu electoral area.

Government Intervention

The North East Regional Minister, Ibrahim Tia, who visited the affected communities, urged residents to ceasefire and engage in dialogue to resolve the issue.

He assured them that the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) is collaborating with local chiefs, particularly the Nayiri, and opinion leaders to find lasting solutions.

The Minister assured that security measures have been strengthened in the two communities to protect lives and properties.

Sustainable Development Goal 16

Sustainable Development Goal 16 (SDG 16) focuses on promoting peace, justice, and strong institutions, directly relating to security. It aims to “promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all, and build effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions at all levels.”

NPP’s Sir Obama Pokuase alleges police broke into his kitchen before arresting him

0

New Patriotic Party (NPP) activist Daniel Adomako, popularly known on social media as Sir Obama Pokuase, has accused the Ghana Police Service of subjecting him to a dehumanising experience during his arrest on Wednesday, August 13.

The Police, in a statement, claimed he was arrested in an intelligence-led operation targeting the illegal possession and public display of sophisticated weapons. The operation, conducted in collaboration with other security agencies, followed the circulation of images and videos allegedly shared by Mr. Adomako on social media, showing individuals openly brandishing high-grade firearms.

While the Police insisted he was needed to assist in investigations, the manner of his arrest at dawn has attracted widespread condemnation.

Speaking after his release on Eko Sii Sen on Asempa FM, Mr. Adomako recounted that he was picked up around 3:45 a.m. when armed officers broke through his kitchen before forcing their way into his bedroom, where he was with his wife.

“They broke into my room, which has a wooden door, and forcibly entered, destroying valuables. Then they entered my bedroom, and I was in shorts, and they whisked me away with two V-8s blaring sirens. These were eight fully armed men,” he narrated.

Mr. Adomako said he was first detained at the National Signals Bureau at Labone before being transferred to the Police CID headquarters, where interrogation began. His lawyers and party elders later joined the process.

He was subsequently charged and put before court, where he pleaded guilty. Upon his lawyers’ request, he was granted bail of GHS 50,000 with two sureties, one of whom had to be a salaried government worker. However, he claimed the Court Registrar declined to process the bail that same day, leading to his continued detention.

“It was really sad. It was as if I were a hardened criminal. If indeed you’re calling me as a suspect to assist in investigations, you don’t treat me like this,” he said.

According to him, he remained in Police custody from Wednesday to Monday before finally being released. His phones, laptops, and other electronic devices were seized as exhibits.

Just after meeting his bail conditions, Mr Adomako said he was informed of another case brought against him dating back to 2020, involving Ghana’s current High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Mrs. Sabah Zita Benson.

He explained that both parties had filed complaints against each other at the time, but never pursued the matter further. The case, however, was unexpectedly revived following his recent arrest.

Mr Adomako noted that neither of them eventually followed up with the case, and he assumed it was a dead matter until it resurfaced recently following his arrest for a different case.

“So, this matter came to me as a surprise when it came up this afternoon. But as you lawyers say, crime has no expiry,” he remarked.

He, however, disclosed that a compromise was reached and that the matter has since been settled.

Mr Adomako maintains that he is being targeted by political opponents who want to instill fear in him because he is seen as a strong critic. He questioned the genuineness of the reasons given by the Police Service for his arrest, claiming that the video he shared online was rather helpful in aiding police investigations into criminal activity.

Mr Adomako, who has also been very critical of the current Inspector General of Police and has repeatedly demanded his removal on social media, believes that may have played a role in the actions taken against him by the Police.

Ghana’s macroeconomic stability hinges on fiscal consolidation

0

World Bank urges government to stick to IMF targets World Bank urges government to stick to IMF targets

The World Bank has admonished the government to focus on fiscal consolidation as a means of enhancing macroeconomic stability.

According to its latest update on the Ghanaian economy, the Bank noted that the economy is currently on a positive growth trajectory; however, reforms remain crucial.

In its short-term projections, the World Bank emphasised that the government must prioritise restoring macro-financial stability, which is critical for promoting private investment-led growth and job creation.

OSP Half-Year Report: List of cases under full investigation

The report further highlighted that strict adherence to fiscal targets agreed under the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Extended Credit Facility (ECF) Program is vital to keeping debt on a sustainable path.

On Public Financial Management (PFM), the Bank recommended:

• Implementing new fiscal rules and adequately resourcing the Fiscal Council for effective oversight.

• Ensuring compliance with amendments to the Public Procurement Act to manage commitments and prevent the accumulation of arrears.

• Enforcing blanket purchase orders for multiyear infrastructure projects.

• Implementing an arrears management framework and strengthening cash flow mechanisms.

It added that the full adoption of PFM systems such as the Ghana Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) and the Ghana Electronic Procurement System (GHANEPS) across all ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), as well as metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies (MMDAs), together with the integration of all spending accounts into the Treasury Single Account (TSA), will enhance transparency and control.

The World Bank also urged the government to fully implement revenue measures outlined in the 2025 budget, which are expected to yield additional revenue of at least 0.6% of GDP in 2025, consistent with ECF program targets.

Additionally, enforcing the Tax Exemptions Law and establishing a comprehensive tax expenditure repository will improve accountability and transparency.

Strengthening the capacity of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to roll out the Integrated Tax Administration System (ITAS) and conduct risk-based audits will also boost tax compliance.

On the financial sector, the report called for the recapitalisation of all financial institutions in line with the Financial Sector Strengthening Strategy (FSSS). It further recommended tackling the issue of high non-performing loans (NPLs) through a comprehensive asset quality review to guide bank-specific action plans.

Finally, the Bank advised the Bank of Ghana to avoid large foreign exchange interventions to reduce distortions in the market.

Event industry woes stem from poor teamwork, not lack of funds – Kojo Soboh

0

Kojo Soboh is the CEO of EMY Africa Kojo Soboh is the CEO of EMY Africa

Many people often cite the lack of corporate sponsorship as the reason Ghana’s events industry is struggling, but Kojo Soboh, CEO of EMY Africa, believes the real issues lie elsewhere.

According to him, the problems stem from poor collaboration among event organisers, a lack of professionalism, and not just inadequate funding.

Speaking in an interview with Graphic Showbiz, Kojo Soboh explained that although sponsorship is important, the sector’s challenges go beyond money.

EMY Africa unveils 10th-anniversary logo, opens nominations

According to him, event organisers in Ghana often work in isolation instead of teaming up to share resources and ideas.

“See, we are always quick to finger insufficient funding, but the challenges of event organisers are bigger than that. There is poor collaboration among players, making it difficult for organisers to stage successful events,” he said.

He pointed to examples from outside Ghana to show what is possible when companies work together.

He cited the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), where Ghanaian organiser Nabil Alhassan of Event Factory joins forces with colleagues in Nigeria to deliver the show.

In his view, that kind of partnership is what is missing in Ghana.

Anthony Dzamefe,Dentaa Amoateng, Kojo Soboh joined the 2024 Grammys special invitation list

“Why can’t we do the same in Ghana? Two or three event organisers can come together to execute a good show, but unfortunately, that partnership is non-existent, and event companies are forced to singlehandedly bear all the cost and stress every time.

“Many industry players are too competitive. Everyone wants to be the king of their own small space. But imagine if two or three top event organisers pooled resources together to hold an event. It would change the game,” he added.

According to Soboh, working together would not only make events more affordable to produce, but it would also improve their quality and attract bigger sponsors.

“If two or three event organisers joined forces, costs would drop, quality would rise, and sponsors would take us seriously,” he stressed.

Soboh was also blunt about what he sees as a professionalism gap in the industry.

He argued that many people calling themselves event organisers lack the skills and training needed to deliver high-quality productions.

This, he said, has led to poor planning, financial losses, and disappointing experiences for audiences.

“Let’s face it. Some event organisers lack proper training and expertise, leading to financial losses and poor event execution. It is not enough to have an idea; there is a need to plan and the finances to back it,” he said.

Soboh also raised issues about the absence of regulations to guide the sector. With no clear structures in place, he said, anyone can wake up and decide to call themselves an event organiser, regardless of experience.

He warned, creates room for poorly executed shows that damage the credibility of the entire industry.

“Anyone can wake up and call themselves an event organiser. No training, no structure, just poor execution that scares away sponsors and disappoints patrons. This affects the credibility of the entire sector,” he explained.

In his address, Dr Forson highlighted the importance of transparency and due process in Ghana’s gold sector, stressing that the tribunal would play a vital role in balancing regulatory oversight with fair treatment of industry stakeholders.

He urged the newly sworn-in members to uphold integrity, impartiality, and professionalism as they carry out their mandate.

The Gold Board Tribunal is a non-permanent, ad-hoc body convened as needed to review appeals against GoldBod decisions, particularly licensing determinations and disputes heard by the Dispute Resolution Committee.

Its structure reflects the need for both legal and industry expertise: a chairperson with a legal background or substantial experience in the gold industry, supported by two members with expertise in minerals and mining law or commerce.

Key features of the tribunal include:

• Purpose: Acts as the appeals body for GoldBod decisions, including licensing issues.

• Composition: A chairperson and two members appointed on an ad-hoc basis.

• Function: Ensures a fair and transparent review process for affected parties.

Authority: Decisions are legally binding, equivalent to High Court judgments, with further appeals allowed at the Court of Appeal.

• Establishment: Created under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025, which defines its structure and powers.

Members of the Tribunal:

• Chairperson: Biadala Mortey Akpadzi

• Member: Hamidu Mariam

• Member: Justin Pwavra Teriwajah

The official inauguration marks a milestone in modernising oversight mechanisms for gold licensing and dispute resolution, signalling a step toward standardised, high-quality adjudication in the gold trading industry.

Jota’s best friend who never left his side

0

Neves (L) and Jota's wife (M) at the Molineux Neves (L) and Jota’s wife (M) at the Molineux

When Diogo Jota tragically passed in July 2025, Portugal mourned one of its finest football sons. But for Rúben Neves, it was something deeper, something personal.

Their friendship had always been bigger than the game, and Neves’s actions in those harrowing days showed just how real his words had been: “More than a friendship, we’re family.”

Neves had barely caught his breath from the Club World Cup with Al-Hilal when he boarded a plane, rushing to Portugal to stand as pallbearer at his best friend’s funeral.

Hours after battling on the pitch, he walked behind Jota’s coffin, shoulders heavy with grief but head held firm, carrying his brother to rest.

Yet, even after the funeral, his promise lived on.

Dip in Form, Financial Restraints: West Ham reveal why they sold Kudus Mohammed

At Anfield during the 2025/26 season’s opener on Friday, August 15, 2025, Liverpool staged a moving tribute for Jota, the man whose goals and energy had lit up their attack. The Kop unveiled a giant mosaic, spelling out his number, his name, and words of eternal remembrance:

“Rute, Dinis, Duarte, Mafalda, Anfield will always be your home. You’ll never walk alone.”

Jota’s widow, Rute Cardoso, walked into that stadium with pain written all over her face. Among her entourage was Neves. He had come not as a guest, not as a rival, but as family, holding her hand through the storm as Anfield fell silent in respect for its fallen star.

The very next day, Neves was there again. This time at Molineux, the place that had forged both him and Jota into Premier League names.

Wolves fans raised a colossal tifo that read: “We’ll remember you when you walk in fields of gold.” The stands, the chants, the tears, it was Jota’s Wolves family saying goodbye.

And once more, Rúben Neves was there, sitting beside Rute, standing tall in the grief, ensuring she was not left to face the moment alone.

It wasn’t for the cameras. It wasn’t for appearances. It was for love.

Jota had once joked that Neves was more like a brother than a teammate, and when Neves wrote his tribute:

“I’ll make sure you’re always present, and your family will never lack anything,” he wasn’t speaking poetry; he was laying out his mission.

The weekend of those back-to-back tributes proved it. From Saudi Arabia to Portugal to England, Neves showed that friendship doesn’t end with death; it continues in the loyalty left behind.

And so, in Anfield’s mosaic, in Molineux’s golden fields, in the silent embrace between a widow and her husband’s best friend, the promise lived on. Rúben Neves meant every word.

Stephen Amoah condemns 48-Hour detention of Social Media commentators

0

The Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Stephen Amoah, has condemned the arrest and detention of two social media commentators from his constituency for more than 48 hours.

This follows the arrest of two young women, Charity Defe Tetteh and Priscilla Duah Brago, both in their 20s, from the Nhyiaeso Constituency.

They were reportedly apprehended in Kumasi by National Security Operatives and transferred to Accra for allegedly posting derogatory comments about President Mahama on the social media platform TikTok.

In an interview with Channel One News on Tuesday, August 19, MP for Nhyiaeso, Stephen Amoah, stated that while he disapproves of the comments made by the individuals, their detention for over 48 hours violates the rule of law.

“I am against any form of verbal assault on any citizen, let alone our president, H.E. John Dramani Mahama. I am not concluding that they have said anything good or bad, but definitely, maybe they might have said something.

“Personally, I am against any form of insolence because they don’t really augur well for a country. But then, talking about the rule of law, we have exceeded 48 hours because the law talks about the day of arrest, and it starts from Friday. It is very unacceptable,” he stated.

Stephen Amoah further urged the government to exercise caution in handling such matters to avoid perceptions of vindictiveness, particularly in the event of a future change in power.

“Procedurally, something is wrong. It is not right. Nobody will have power in perpetuity. I think our democracy in Ghana has grown. We have gone beyond this,” he said.

Effortless Outfits for Your Most Relaxed Day of the Week

0

Sundays are a sacred pause—the calm after a busy week and the prelude to the next. Whether you’re lounging at home, catching up with friends over brunch, or wandering through a local flea market, your outfit should reflect the relaxed rhythm of the day. It’s not about high fashion; it’s about feeling good in what you wear while still looking put-together.

Here are a few easy, stylish Sunday outfit ideas that blend comfort with casual charm:

1. The Classic Combo: Blue Jeans + White Tee

Simple, timeless, and effortlessly cool. A pair of well-fitting blue jeans and a crisp white T-shirt is a go-to for a reason. Add a pair of clean white sneakers and a small crossbody bag for a chic, casual look. If the weather’s cooler, layer with a cozy cardigan or a denim jacket to stay warm without sacrificing style.

2. Breezy Elegance: Flowy Maxi Dress

For those who prefer a more feminine flair, a lightweight maxi dress is a perfect Sunday option. Choose soft floral patterns or serene pastel shades for a relaxed yet polished vibe. Flat sandals and a wide-brimmed straw hat complete the look, making it ideal for brunch, church, or a sunny afternoon in the park.

3. Comfort First: Leggings and a Fitted Tank

Sometimes, the best Sundays are the ones spent doing absolutely nothing—or running light errands in total comfort. Opt for high-waisted leggings or joggers paired with a cropped hoodie or tank top. Throw on your favorite sneakers and a baseball cap, and you’re ready for a coffee run, a dog walk, or a binge-watch session on the couch.

4. Effortlessly Cool: Oversized Shirt + Biker Shorts

This fashion-forward combo brings a street-style edge to your Sunday attire. An oversized button-down shirt—maybe borrowed from your partner’s closet—paired with black biker shorts strikes a perfect balance between trendy and comfortable. Accessorize with chunky sneakers, minimal jewelry, and a sleek tote to tie it all together.

5. Cozy Co-ords: Matching Sets for the Win

Matching knit or cotton sets are a Sunday essential for the homebody who still wants to look cute. Whether it’s a soft loungewear set or a ribbed two-piece in neutral tones, these outfits require zero thought but deliver maximum style. They’re ideal for lazy days, quick errands, or catching up with a friend over an iced latte.

No matter how you spend your Sunday, your outfit should match the mood: laid-back, effortless, and undeniably you. The best looks are the ones that make you feel confident without trying too hard—because Sundays are for rest, not stress.

GMB25: Central Region’s Afedziwaa Saved From Eviction

0

Afedziwaa

LAST SUNDAY marked an eviction night during which Bubah, the representative from the North East Region, became the first contestant eliminated from Ghana’s Most Beautiful (GMB) 2025 competition, just three weeks after the show began.

In a surprising turn of events, Afedziwaa, the representative from the Central Region, found herself up for eviction for the first time. However, she was ultimately saved by the judges due to her impressive performances over the past weeks.

Her nomination for eviction sent shockwaves through the viewing public, as the Central Region has never faced eviction during the initial rounds of the competition in previous seasons. This unexpected turn has left fans in disbelief.

Supporters have urged the Central Region to rally behind Afedziwaa, emphasising that her performances have been nothing short of spectacular. They believe that with sufficient votes, she has a strong chance of advancing to the finals and competing for the ultimate crown.

This week’s task was themed “Celebration (Funeral),” in which Afedziwaa brilliantly portrayed a bereaved linguist, chief, and Asafo leader, skillfully reenacting her region’s customs to honour the dead.

Judge Janet Sunkwa-Mills praised her for fully embodying the role and captivating the audience with her storytelling. Last week, Afedziwaa also won the award for Best Costume of the night.

Additionally, the night saw Ashanti Region’s Sika, Asakia from the Upper East Region, and Nana from Bono East Region winning the titles of Most Eloquent, Star Performer, and Best Costume, respectively.

Ali Nuhu alive, NFC dispels death rumour

0

The Nigerian Film Corporation has dismissed social media reports claiming that its Managing Director, Ali Nuhu, is dead.

The rumours began when a Facebook user Ifeoma Chigbo shared a video alleging that Nuhu had passed away. In the clip, the user expressed hope that the news was untrue.

Later, another post surfaced claiming the veteran actor and filmmaker had died in a fatal car accident.

However, in a statement issued on Monday evening by its Director of Public Affairs, Brian Etuk, the NFC dismissed the social media reports as false and malicious.

The corporation confirmed that Nuhu is alive, healthy, and actively performing his duties, and asked the public to ignore the claims.

“The attention of the Nigerian Film Corporation has been drawn to the purported passing of Dr. Ali Nuhu, its current Managing Director/Chief Executive being orchestrated within the social media space; and wishes to officially and unambiguously inform the general public that the reports, including videos laced with the pictures of Dr. Ali Nuhu are not only malicious, injurious but false in their entirety.

“Dr. Ali Nuhu is alive, well and discharging the responsibilities of the office of NFC’s Chief Executive, having been appointed by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) on February 12, 2024,” the statement read.

The corporation further warned that actions are being taken against those responsible for spreading the false information.

“NFC wishes to draw the attention of perpetrators of these uncouth and dastardly acts, including their sponsors of the dire and unmistakable consequences of their actions, no matter the innocuousness of their intent.

“Meanwhile, appropriate measures have been initiated to arrest this ugly, baleful, and unsatisfactory conduct and trend.

“NFC appreciates the genuine concerns expressed by the general public, private, and public sector stakeholders as a result of the above,” the statement added.

“Bring Your CV for Comparison” – Ayensu-Danquah Fires at Prof Jinapor Over ‘Professor’ Title

0

The controversy surrounding the academic credentials of Deputy Minister of Health, Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah, has escalated as she responded directly to the Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Prof Ahmed Jinapor as reported by Ghana Web.

The dispute centers on the use of her “Professor” title, which has sparked public debate in recent days.

In an interview on CTV, Dr Ayensu-Danquah dismissed the criticisms as attempts to tarnish her reputation.

According to her, the regulator should have handled the matter formally rather than engaging in public commentary.

She went further to throw a direct challenge to Prof Jinapor, urging him to present his academic records for comparison. “I want Honourable Jinapor to bring his CV for us to compare,” she stated.

Defending her credentials, Dr Ayensu-Danquah insisted she legitimately earned her title as a professor of surgery.

She revealed that she heads a global surgery department at a campus in Utah, underscoring her involvement in international academic and medical work.

Beyond her engagements abroad, she highlighted her ongoing commitments in Ghana, including residency training programmes and extensive research in areas such as breast cancer, quality assurance, and surgical care improvements.

For her, the uproar over her qualifications is not only misplaced but also undermines her dedication to public service.

She stressed that her decision to remain in Ghana, rather than focusing solely on international opportunities, stems from her desire to contribute meaningfully to the country’s healthcare sector.

I’ll Get My Lamborghini Back – Shatta Wale Vows

0

Shatta Wale

Dancehall star, Shatta Wale, has vowed to reclaim his seized 2019 Lamborghini Urus, insisting the luxury vehicle is legally his and not stolen, despite ongoing investigations by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

In a post on X, Shatta Wale dismissed widespread rumours linking his Lamborghini to fraud, declaring he has the full paperwork to prove ownership.

“God willing, yes, I will receive it. Cuz I have every document proving it’s mine, forget rumours. For your info, it’s not stolen, please, thank you,” he wrote when a follower asked when they were getting back the car.

The dispute began in June 2025, when EOCO impounded the Lamborghini, claiming it was tied to a major fraud case in the United States. The vehicle was reportedly linked to Nana Kwabena Amuah, a Ghanaian-American convicted of running multi-million-dollar romance scams and business email compromise schemes.

EOCO alleged that the Lamborghini had been purchased with proceeds from those fraudulent activities. But Shatta Wale has strongly denied any wrongdoing, explaining that he bought the vehicle as a third-party buyer for $150,000 and has no business or personal ties with Amuah.

The saga has already dealt a major blow to the artist, with reports that he lost a $2 million EP deal due to the negative publicity surrounding the case.

Still, Shatta Wale remains defiant, maintaining that his Lamborghini was acquired legally and will be returned to him.

The agreement, formalized at a brief meeting at GNPC’s Training Centre at Mankata Avenue, Accra, provides a framework for the joint promotion and marketing of 2D seismic and geochemical data collected by GNPC. It also outlines modalities for revenue sharing from future data licensing activities.

Chiefs and People of Agotime Celebrate 30th Kente Festival

By Michael Foli Jackidy

Agotime (V/R), Aug. 18, GNA – The Chiefs and people of the Agotime Traditional Area in the Agotime-Ziope District, joined by sister communities from Togo, have celebrated the 30th Kente Festival with renewed calls for unity, cultural preservation, and accelerated development.

This year’s festival, held on Saturday at Kpetoe, was themed “Woven Together: Kente, Agortime’s Creative Gift to the World.” The colourful event attracted government officials, traditional leaders, tourists, and dignitaries from Ghana and abroad.

Delivering the keynote address, Mr Alex Segbefia, Chief of Staff at the Office of the Vice President and Guest of Honour, announced that government would allocate $2 billion annually under the “Big Push Agenda” over the next five years to accelerate infrastructural development nationwide. Priority areas, he said, would include education, healthcare, and transportation to boost productivity and attract investment.

He assured the people that roads linking Ho to Tokor through Kpetoe would be upgraded to support tourism, strengthen the Kente industry, and draw investors.

The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, in her remarks, highlighted the global recognition of Kente as a UNESCO-listed cultural heritage. She pledged government’s commitment to developing the Agotime Kente Village into a world-class tourist attraction.

The Volta Regional Minister, Mr James Gunu, commended the people of Agotime for sustaining their cultural identity through Kente weaving over three decades. He encouraged weavers to take advantage of growing international demand, stressing that “every cloth produced here carries the soul of Agortime, woven carefully by generations.”

Mr Gunu also outlined ongoing projects under the 2025 Big Push Road Infrastructure Programme, including the rehabilitation of the Ho–Kpetoe, Kpetoe–Afiadenyigba, and Penyi–Aflao roads. He further announced the rehabilitation of the Kpetoe Water Treatment Plant, scheduled for completion within three months, and the extension of potable water under the 5-District Water Supply Project from Adidome through Adaklu Waya to Kpetoe.

Nene Nuer Keteku IV, Konor of the Agotime Traditional Area and President of the Agotime Traditional Council, described the festival theme as a timely call to unity and innovation in sustaining the Kente heritage. He appealed to the government to complete stalled projects

such as the Kente Village Project, the College of Education in Agotime, and the Afegame ICT Centre, while also rehabilitating key infrastructure including roads, bridges, and water systems.

He lamented persistent water challenges in the area, noting that seasonal drying of local rivers forces women and children to trek long distances in search of water, with dire consequences for health and livelihoods. He also called for urgent repairs to the old Tordzie River bridge, describing it as a growing safety hazard.

“Without a sense of history, we are like a zebra without its stripes. Our heritage, when combined with education and innovation, is the key to our survival and prosperity,” he declared.

The festival climaxed with a grand durbar of chiefs, cultural performances, and colourful displays of Kente, reinforcing Agotime’s reputation as not only the home of Ghana’s most treasured cloth but also a centre of cultural tourism, innovation, and development.

Stop galamsey now – Movement for Change tells government

0

Movement for Change, one of Ghana’s Political parties has asked the government to ban all small-scale and artisanal mining activities for one year.

A statement issued and signed by its Director of Communication and Spokesperson,

Solomon Owusu, said “By an Executive Instrument, ban all small-scale and artisanal mining activities whether legal or illegal, with immediate effect, for a substantive period of one year.”

The Movement for Change also called on Parliament to suspend, under a Certificate of Urgency, the application of Legislative Instrument (LI) 2462 to stop permits that allow mining in forest reserves in Ghana.

The partty’s call comes following the ghastly incident which occurred on Wednesday, 13th August 2025 which claimed the lives of eight (8) gallant men of our nation.

The statement said there is now more than ever before, an urgent and critical need to put a complete stop to the existential threat of Galamsey. Against this background, the Movement for Change proposes as follows, a Ten-Point Action Plan to stop Galamsey.

The statement called for the revocation of all small-scale and community mining licenses issued by the Minerals Commission within the last 15 years.

“The revocation will be followed by a comprehensive and complete audit of all small-scale and community mining licenses issued within the said period. A task force made up of representatives of the Goldbod, Environmental Protection Agency, Water Resources Commission and Minerals Commission, with appropriate technical support, shall oversee the audit.”

The statement called on the government to issue new mining licences after the audit exercise, with the consent of traditional authorities in the relevant areas.

It also appealed to the government to “Demobilize all machinery, equipment, including earth moving equipment, and any other form of machinery currently in use on all existing small-scale and community mining land sites.

The equipment will be inventorized, stored and preserved by the 48 Engineer’s Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces.

The statement tasked the government to establish and fund a comprehensive programme for the restoration and regeneration of all degraded land sites within the one-year period of the ban of small-scale mining activities.

“Young men and women currently engaged in small-scale mining activities will be deployed under the said programme. The programme would be led and supervised by the Forestry Commission with technical oversight by the Forestry Research Institute of CSIR.”

Additionally, the statement urged the government to establish a programme to be jointly managed by the Water Resources Commission and Environmental Protection Agency, with technical support from the Water Research Institute of CSIR, for a complete restoration of all river bodies within the period of one year while the ban is in force.

According to the statement, the government should Introduce new legislation and regulations in Parliament that would impose a complete ban on mining in river bodies and forest reserves, even when the ban on small-scale mining is lifted.

“The sanctions regime associated with this new legislation will include life imprisonment for violation of the provisions of the said legislation.,” the statement added.

Again, the statement said the government should establish a new Youth in Responsible Mining Initiative, under which groups of young people previously engaged in Galamsey, will be supported by the Government to establish and own mining companies as private legal commercial entities (not cooperatives).

“These youth-owned mining companies will be provided mining licensing rights and other permits, as well as machinery and equipment for mining activities under a Work-and-Pay basis, with Off-taker Agreements from Goldbod.”

The Statement finally appealed to the government to establish a Citizens Mining Protection Rights Group in each mining community, who will act as the watchdogs for responsible mining.

“We are currently developing the guidelines on forex trading and so very soon we are going to regulate and license forex traders in this country,” he said.

He further disclosed that the Commission is streamlining the process of verifying licensed investment companies, including the introduction of a short code system that will enable the public to easily confirm the status of genuine operators and avoid fraudulent schemes.

“The purpose of the short code is for easy verification of licensed operators,” he explained.

For his part, the President of the Ghana Journalists Association, Albert Dwumfour, commended the SEC’s initiatives and stressed the importance of collaboration between regulators and the media to promote financial literacy and protect the investing public.

MOG Beatz pulls down Shatta Wale’s albums over catalogue dispute

MOG Beatz is a Ghanaian music producer MOG Beatz is a Ghanaian music producer

Music producer MOG Beatz has pulled the plug on Shatta Wale’s music, removing two albums from Apple Music after accusing him of selling his catalogue without crediting him and other producers.

On August 19, 2025, MOG announced on X that he had taken down Shatta Wale’s ‘Reign album’ and ‘Wondaboy album’ from the streaming platform due to what he described as unresolved issues regarding credit and payment.

You sell my beats, erase my credit, then buy luxury cars – MOG Beatz blasts Shatta Wale

According to MOG, Shatta Wale wrongfully took production credit for songs created by him and other producers in order to collect money from an international company, without informing or compensating those involved.

MOG stated that removing Shatta’s albums is only the beginning and hinted that more albums could soon be removed.

He also demanded that Shatta Wale refund the company he allegedly deceived with false production credits.

‘Nobody should dare invite me to EOCO or come to my house’ – Shatta Wale warns Raymond Archer

“Shatta Wale, you claimed production credit for a lot of songs made by me and other producers, just to get an advance payment from an international company behind your producers’ backs without paying them or giving them agreements.

“Two albums have already been taken down, and more are coming down soon. Sell your assets and refund the company you scammed. Leasing your catalogue just to survive? That’s the path you chose. This time, the talk will come with action,” MOG wrote.

This clash comes against the backdrop of a similar dispute that dates back to 2021.

At the time, MOG Beatz accused Shatta Wale of failing to pay him for his work on the ‘Reign’ album.

The producer disclosed that he had worked on 10 songs for the project but never received compensation, despite Shatta Wale promising payment during production.

When the Reign album became a hit, MOG said he was ignored and left unpaid.

“Money Man @shattawalegh, me I dey see you as a big brother I never had. I know say you no be STINGY like that lol, I produced 10 songs on the #ReignAlbum but ano see no CASH from you since 2018. Seeing this made me laugh sooo hard,” MOG wrote in 2021.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has said its investigations into former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, have not uncovered direct evidence of corruption, though suspicions of money laundering remain.

In its latest half-year report released on August 19, 2025, the OSP recalled that the probe began in July 2023 following revelations of “large amounts of money and other valuable items involving Ms. Cecilia Abena Dapaah and her associates.”

After nearly seven months of investigations, conducted alongside a parallel inquiry by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the OSP disclosed that the allegations of corruption could not be substantiated.

“No direct and immediate evidence of corruption was found in respect of seized funds and frozen bank accounts linked to Ms. Dapaah and her associates,” the Office stated.

However, the report stressed that the matter is far from closed.

The OSP noted that the inquiries unearthed “strong indications of suspected money laundering and structuring,” which fall beyond its [OSP] direct mandate.

Burkina Faso’s junta expels top UN official over child rights report

Carol Flore-Smereczniak has worked in conflict areas for over 20 years Carol Flore-Smereczniak has worked in conflict areas for over 20 years

Burkina Faso’s junta has expelled the UN’s top official to the West African nation over a report about children caught up in the jihadist conflict.

Carol Flore-Smereczniak was declared “persona non grata” because of her role in drafting the report that came out in March.

Covering a two-year period, the study detailed more than 2,000 cases of reported child recruitment, killings, sexual violence and abuse – blaming Islamist insurgents, government soldiers and civilian defence forces.

The military government, which came to power in September 2022 and is led by Capt Ibrahim Traoré, said it had not been consulted by the UN, saying the report contained unfounded allegations.

It did not cite any documentation “or court rulings to support the alleged cases of violations against children attributed to the valiant Burkinabé fighters”, the government’s statement said.

Since 2015, jihadist rebels affiliated with al-Qaeda and the Islamic State group have waged an insurgency that has killed thousands of people and forced millions to flee their homes.

It has prompted political instability, with two military coups in 2022. Capt Traoré took power promising to deal with the dire security situation within “two to three months”.

Ms Flore-Smereczniak was appointed in July 2024 – more than 18 months after her predecessor was expelled.

From Mauritius, she has worked in areas experiencing or recovering from conflict for more than two decades, holding posts in Ivory Coast, Chad and Malawi, according to the UN.

The UN representative before her, Italian Barbara Manzi, was declared “persona non grata” by the junta in December 2022 not long after publishing a blog post describing how the crisis was affecting education and health services, forcing many to close down.

The UN has not yet officially commented on the latest expulsion, but the UN chief had expressed his regret over the decision to expel Ms Manzi whilst reiterating the UN’s desire to engage with the junta to support Burkinabés.

There have been concerns over the effectiveness of Capt Traoré’s operation to quash the militants – with the junta rejecting the assistance of former colonial power France in favour of Russia.

In the first half of 2025, jihadist group JNIM said it had carried out over 280 attacks in Burkina Faso – double the number for the same period in 2024, according to data verified by the BBC

Rights groups have also accused the army of targeting civilians as well as suppressing political activity and the freedom of expression.

Last year, the military government announced it was extending junta rule for another five years.

It also said that Capt Traoré, who has built up the persona of a pan-Africanist leader, would be allowed to run for president in 2029.

Adwoa Smart and Maame Dokono

Veteran actress, Belinda Naa Ode Oku, popularly known as Adwoa Smart, has opened up about her humble beginnings and how her life was transformed through the support of Ghanaian screen legend Grace Omaboe, widely known as Maame Dokono.

Speaking in an interview with Adom FM, Adwoa Smart revealed that long before she became a household name in Ghana’s film industry, she was a market trader at Kaneshie. Having dropped out of school at a young age, she worked tirelessly to support herself and her family.

“I didn’t want to depend on anyone, so I was hustling at the market. I sold anything and everything, and I had a steady flow of customers,” she recalled.

Her life took a remarkable turn when a woman who admired her introduced her to Maame Dokono. Though skeptical at first, Maame Dokono asked Adwoa Smart to dance for her as a kind of audition. Impressed by her performance, she gave the young actress a chance to step into the world of performing arts.

Beyond that, Maame Dokono also offered her a job at her drinking spot, where she worked as a waitress at night after joining acting shoots during the day.

From there, Adwoa Smart’s career blossomed. She went on to feature in some of Ghana’s most celebrated productions, including Obra, Efiewura, and Bongo Bar, which solidified her place in the entertainment industry.

Communique: High-Level Accra Initiative calls for a re-imagined global health order

0

By Iddi Yire, GNA

Accra, Aug 19, GNA – The High-Level Accra Initiative has called for a re-imagined global health order that empowers nations to lead resilient and self-sustaining health responses.

A communique issued at the end of the Africa Health Sovereignty Summit said the Summit places health within a broader agenda for stimulating investment and economic transformation.

It said in this new paradigm, health was treated as a foundational sector that strengthens labour productivity, drives innovation and catalyses value chains across diagnostics, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, logistics, and digital infrastructure.

It said health thus serves as a strategic lens through which wider continental ambitions for industrialisation, trade integration, and geo-economic sovereignty can be pursued.

The communique said the Accra Initiative endorsed the following principles in reimagining a new global health order.

These are to improve continental leadership, national accountability and institutional resilience; and to ensure equity, transparency, and inclusive participation in decision-making.

Others are to ensure inclusive participation of low and middle-income countries and civil society; and to secure diversified, sustainable financing from domestic, regional, and private sources.

The rest are to position health as a productivity and innovation driver within economic policy, to embed Africa-led standards, data sovereignty, and manufacturing in continental value chains, and to foster cross-sectoral collaboration to address interconnected challenges in health, economy, and security.

It said the Initiative further agreed on a strategic outcome that includes the formation of a Presidential High-Level Panel for further engagement and inclusivity on a framework of a reimagined global health architecture and a roadmap for the national implementation and strengthened coordination with international development partners for a smooth transition.

The communique said building on Africa’s proven legacy of health leadership, the Summit launched the SUSTAIN Initiative, a framework designed to promote country-owned, investment-driven, and sustainable health systems.

This initiative aims to bridge the funding gap arising from declining external aid by mobilizing domestic resources and engaging the private sector.

It said SUSTAIN would further serve as a vehicle for a broader reimagining of Africa’s place in the world—linking sovereign health systems to wider capabilities in trade, data governance, and industrial policy.

This includes embedding health sovereignty into Africa’s continental economic platforms: the AU’s 4D framework exemplified by the PROPER platform for supply chain traceability, the PanaBlOS digital certification system for mobility and biosecurity and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Hub for integrating African businesses into global trade networks.

It noted that these platforms complement SUSTAIN as an operational framework to transition from donor volatility toward investment-led, nationally financed systems.

It said the Accra Initiative marks a pivotal step toward securing a healthier, more equitable future for all, reinforcing collective responsibility and innovative approaches to global health governance.

The Communique said beyond the specific domain of health, the Accra Initiative would serve both as a reference point and contributor to the broader discussions around reforming multilateralism, global cooperation and development for a sustainable, post-aid world.

At the Africa Health Sovereignty Summit, on August 5, 2025, in Accra, Ghana, convened under the patronage of President John Dramani Mahama of Ghana, with participation by: Former Nigerian Olusegun Obasanjo, former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, and Former President of Mauritius Ameenah Gurib-Fakim.

The rest are Madam Amma Twum-Amoah, African Union (AU) Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development and Dr Tedros Ghebreyesus, Director-General, World Health Organization (WHO).

“Withdraw Your ‘Arrogant Statement’ – Edudzi Tameklo Fires at UK Bar Council Over CJ Removal

0

Godwin Edudzi Tameklo has taken issue with the Bar Council of England and Wales over their comments on the ongoing process to remove suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, describing the intervention as unnecessary and disrespectful to Ghana’s legal framework as reported by Ghana Web.

In remarks shared on social media, Tameklo defended the President’s actions in handling the petition, stressing that every step taken had been within the boundaries of the law.

He argued that critics were ignoring the constitutional procedures guiding the process.

He further questioned the motives of the Bar Council, suggesting that their stance would have been different if the petitioner had been a political figure.

According to him, the President was not personally driving the petition but simply fulfilling a constitutional mandate.

Tameklo was particularly scathing in his response, characterising the Council’s statement as “arrogant” and an intrusion into Ghana’s judicial independence.

He urged the UK-based body to withdraw its position and offer an apology, insisting that no breach of the country’s laws had occurred.

He also pointed to rulings from both Ghanaian and international courts, arguing that the suspended Chief Justice’s repeated legal challenges had not produced favorable results.

“What was the ruling of the Supreme Court on the injunction? It was dismissed,” he stated, reinforcing his view that due process had been respected throughout.

Concluding his critique, Tameklo warned external organisations against deepening tensions by interfering in matters strictly governed by Ghana’s constitution.

He emphasised that the country’s judicial system must be allowed to operate without undue influence from foreign institutions.

Government hits back at Vincent Assafuah’s false allegations

0

Felix Kwakye Ofosu (L) Ekow Vincent Assafuah (R) Felix Kwakye Ofosu (L) Ekow Vincent Assafuah (R)

The Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has called out the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, for peddling falsehoods about Mahama’s travel to Japan.

According to him, Assafuah’s claim that President John Dramani Mahama travelled abroad on an expensive private jet is shambolic propaganda.

Ekow Assafuah has alleged on his Facebook page that Mahama has rented a luxurious private jet, which is estimated to cost $15,000 per hour.

He further speculated that, per his estimation above, Mahama’s travel abroad will cost a total of $690,000 if it covers stops in Japan, Singapore, Germany, and finally back to Accra.

However, Kwakye Ofosu, in response, has vehemently refuted the assertion made by the MP, saying Assafuah only dabbled in “a mediocre attempt at propaganda.”

In an interview on Citi Eyewitness News on Monday, August 18, Kwakye Ofosu insisted that the claims by the MP lacked substance.

“He does not have any facts. He is just wasting everybody’s time with claims that are false… President Mahama has not travelled by private jet.” He said.

He insisted that “President Mahama travelled to Japan via Emirates, and it is something that you can check. It is not a secret.”

He, therefore, rubbished the claims by Assafuah, adding that his (Assafuah’s) allegations were purely orchestrated to tarnish the president’s image and called on the public to disregard the claims.

It aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and attracting investments to Ghana.

Crypto regulation in Ghana: Striking the balance between safety and scale

0

As Ghana’s central bank prepares to submit its proposed cryptocurrency licensing bill to parliament in September 2025, the country faces a defining moment in its financial modernisation journey.

The proposed framework, requiring exchanges and wallet providers to register, meet minimum capital requirements and report suspicious transactions, aims to bring much-needed clarity to a sector that has grown rapidly in recent years. With over $3 billion in crypto transactions in the last year alone, Ghana has rapidly emerged as a hub for digital asset activity in West Africa.

However, regulating a sector as dynamic as crypto is no easy task. The challenge lies in designing rules that protect users without paralysing innovation. Done poorly, regulation could lock out local entrepreneurs, discourage foreign investment, and drive the industry underground. Done right, it could usher in a new era of trust, cross-border collaboration, and digital growth. To achieve this, Ghana must ensure the bill reflects a nuanced understanding of the ecosystem.

Licensing requirements should account for different types of players—from global exchanges with strong compliance infrastructure to emerging Ghanaian platforms just starting out. Capital thresholds must be proportional, not prohibitive, and compliance costs should not become a barrier to entry for local startups, which form the backbone of the country’s fintech innovation.

There are early signs of industry appetite for cooperation. Global exchanges like Binance have long advocated for clearer regulatory guidelines in Africa. In markets like Kenya, the platform actively engaged with lawmakers during the drafting of the Virtual Asset Service Providers Bill, supporting efforts to improve user safety and financial education. These are examples of how collaborative regulation can unlock shared value if Ghana’s framework encourages, rather than hinders, similar engagement.

Still, concerns linger. Industry stakeholders have raised questions around taxation, license passporting for those already licensed in other jurisdictions, overly punitive penalties, local incentivization and the potential for overregulation in a market still in its early stages. Striking the right balance will be key.

Larry Cooke, Africa’s Head of Legal at Binance, says, “Ghana is a very mature African economy and its regulators and policy makers understand the need to act swiftly but still safely. It’s very encouraging to have open engagements with all stakeholders to make sure that we drive adoption through education and real-life use cases to ensure Africa is not left behind.”

With so much at stake, Ghana has a unique chance to craft a regulation that doesn’t just catch up to the crypto economy but actively shapes its future. A collaborative, context-aware approach, one that brings regulators, technologists, civil society, and startups to the table, will be critical.

The question now is whether Ghana will seize this opportunity to lead or let it slip into bureaucratic delay.

Dancehall musician Shatta Wale has fired back at music producer MOG Beatz after being accused of selling a catalogue of songs to an international company without crediting the producers who worked on them.

The back-and-forth started after MOG Beatz announced on X on August 19, 2025, that he had pulled down Shatta Wale’s ‘Reign’ and ‘Wondaboy’ albums from Apple Music.

You sell my beats, erase my credit, then buy luxury cars – MOG Beatz blasts Shatta Wale

According to MOG, Shatta Wale had taken credit for songs produced by him and other beatmakers, then went behind their backs to strike a deal with an international company for millions of dollars.

MOG insisted that the arrangement was fraudulent, stating that producers were cut out of agreements and payments they deserved.

He also warned that more of Shatta Wale’s projects would be taken down soon if the issue is not addressed.

But Shatta Wale quoted MOG’s post on X, claiming that he had supported the producer in the past by helping with his family’s medical bills and even buying him studio equipment.

He argued that this support was meant to be payment for the work MOG did for him, and questioned why the producer would now describe him as a scammer.

“When I was paying for your mother’s eyes problems, medical bills, giving you money to buy studio equipments as payment for the productions, that was scam right. No problem!!!!! It’s people like you that don’t make artiste wanna even help some of these upcoming producers like you. Come let’s sit man to man and let me see if you can tell me this in my face. Ungrateful pig. Very foolish boy!!” Shatta Wale responded.
