The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has refuted claims by Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah that she holds the academic rank of professor, cautioning her against presenting herself with the title.
In a letter addressed to the Chief of Staff at the Presidency, GTEC explained that it had earlier requested Dr. Ayensu-Danquah to provide documentary proof of her professorial appointment by August 11, 2025.
Her legal team, led by David K. Ametefe, responded on August 8, insisting that she was appointed an Assistant Professor of Surgery by the University of Utah in the United States. They also argued that GTEC had no authority to demand such evidence since the appointment was made outside Ghana.
However, GTEC said the documents submitted revealed inconsistencies. A letter from the University of Utah, signed by Prof. W. Bradford Rockwell, Vice Chair for Academic Affairs in the Department of Surgery, confirmed that Dr. Ayensu-Danquah was appointed as an Adjunct Assistant Professor, not Assistant Professor as claimed by her solicitors.
The Commission stressed that the omission of the term “Adjunct” was misleading. It explained that the role of Adjunct Assistant Professor is a non-tenure track position which, under Ghana’s academic framework, equates roughly to a part-time lecturer—not a senior lecturer, and certainly not a professor.
“Based on the above, the Commission concludes that Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah does not hold the title of Professor in any capacity,” the letter stated.
GTEC has therefore called on her employers to ensure she stops presenting herself as a professor. It further warned that should she persist, the Commission may initiate legal action on grounds of public deception.

Deputy Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for Builsa South, Dr Clement Abas Apaak, has rebuked the UK Bar Council and the Commonwealth Lawyers Association over what he describes as “colonialist-induced insults” following their call for President John Dramani Mahama to reinstate suspended Chief Justice of Ghana, Gertrude Araba Torkornoo.
In a statement addressed to the two legal associations, Dr Apaak described their demand as “impudent” and “baseless,” stressing that Ghana is a sovereign nation governed by its constitution, not foreign institutions.
v
“Ghanaians will not tolerate such nonsensical colonialist-induced insults, disguised as demands, from you. Never! You cannot order our President to ‘immediately and without delay reinstate the Chief Justice of Ghana. Such impudence!” he wrote.
According to him, President Mahama’s actions regarding the matter have been lawful and consistent with constitutional provisions, dismissing any suggestion of wrongdoing.
Dr Apaak maintained that Ghana is not a “lawless banana republic,” emphasising that the President is answerable only to the people of Ghana and the nation’s constitution.
He further accused the associations of being misled by “collaborators” into issuing a statement that could tarnish their credibility.
“Your collaborators have deceived you into damaging your reputation with these baseless demands. Withdraw your unjustified statement and apologise to Ghanaians,” the statement added.

The Ada East and Ada West District Assemblies collectively expended more than GH¢43.7 million in 2024, the 2024 Auditor-General’s Report released by the Ghana Audit Service has revealed.
The bulk of the funds, according to the report, was channeled into compensation for employees and the provision of goods and services.
The report’s Summary Classification of Expenditure by Local Government shows that Ada East District Assembly recorded a total expenditure of GH¢24,965,250, while Ada West District Assembly spent GH¢18,780,384 over the period under review.
For Ada East, goods and services accounted for the largest share at GH¢12,467,798, followed by compensation for employees at GH¢6,832,647. Other expenditures included government specialised expenses of GH¢4,221,967 and financial assets of GH¢1,442,838.
Ada West, on the other hand, has Goods and Services as its highest spending, totalling GH¢9,982,530, representing more than half of the district’s total spending. Compensation amounted to GH¢3,897,905, while government specialised expenses reached GH¢3,665,638.
It added that notably, the assembly allocated GH¢111,252 to social benefits, unlike Ada East, which recorded zero spending in that category.
The Auditor-General’s Report did not only capture total spending but also provided insight into expenditure priorities, revealing that both districts, like many other MMDAs nationwide, channel significant resources into administrative compensation and operational services, with comparatively lower allocations to social welfare.
The Ghana Audit Service releases its report annually as part of efforts to promote fiscal transparency and accountability at both national and sub-national levels.
The findings are expected to guide parliamentary oversight, inform public discourse, and improve budgetary planning by local authorities.
The report further revealed that the Ada East District Health Directorate (DHD) ended last year with a total of GH¢1,264,227 in outstanding payables for goods and services, more than seven times the GH¢167,392 recorded by its neighbour, the Ada West DHD.
It noted that this meant that the entire debt burden in both districts related solely to unpaid goods and services, including supplies, utilities, and other operational expenses.
While the Auditor-General did not detail the specific suppliers or contracts involved, the scale of the Ada East DHD’s payables positions it among the higher liability holders in the Greater Accra Region’s Health Directorate, surpassed only by a few urban counterparts.
The report expressed concerns that such debts, if left unsettled, could disrupt service delivery, delay procurement of essential medical supplies, and undermine preventive and curative health programmes.
The Auditor-General’s recommendations emphasise the need for timely settlement of obligations and stricter budgetary discipline to safeguard service continuity in health facilities.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has strongly condemned the racist abuse directed at AFC Bournemouth and Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo during Friday’s Premier League clash against Liverpool at Anfield.
The incident, which caused a stoppage in the game, has sparked widespread outrage across the football community.
Watch the heartbreaking moment Liverpool Fan racially abused Antoine Semenyo
Infantino described the abuse as “absolutely unacceptable” and emphasised that football has no room for racism or any form of discrimination.
He praised Semenyo’s courage and composure on the pitch, noting that his performance in the face of such adversity serves as a powerful example of strength and dignity for players worldwide.
As part of FIFA’s ongoing fight against racism, Infantino highlighted the role of The Players’ Voice Panel, which was introduced following the five anti-racism pillars adopted at the 2024 FIFA Congress.
The panel will remain in close contact with Semenyo and continue to monitor the situation, ensuring that players’ rights, safety, and dignity are protected.
“Everyone at FIFA, The Players’ Voice Panel, and the entire football community stands firmly with Antoine,” Infantino said.
“We will continue to offer our full support to him, to Bournemouth, the Premier League, and The FA. Strong deterrents must be in place, and meaningful action must follow, to eliminate racism and discrimination from our game.”
This incident underscores the urgency of taking firmer action, not just through symbolic gestures but by ensuring accountability from competition organisers, clubs, and law enforcement.
Football is a global sport built on unity, passion, and respect – values that must be protected if the game is to remain a true force for inclusion and togetherness.

WARNING GRAPHIC IMAGES: Eve Alfonso, 47, from Sheffield was looking for a body-confidence boost so booked treatment to reduce her fat and tighten the skin on her arm via the Illusionz Clinic in Sheffield
Eve Afonso, 47, claims she was left scarred physically and mentally following a botched beauty treatment
A mum was left physically and mentally scarred following a botched beauty treatment at a clinic, and is warning others to be careful and do their research.
With professional branding and a convincing online presence, the Illusionz clinic appeared legitimate, so Eve Alfonso, 47, paid £300 upfront before making an appointment for February 4, 2024. But what happened next left her in so much pain she though she was going to die.
Eve’s story comes on the back of a successful Mirror campaign to crackdown on dangerous cosmetic procedures in backstreet clinics which have killed and maimed patients.

“They gave me local anaesthetic,” Eve told the Mirror. “The practitioner started on my right arm. Suddenly, fat was squirting out – they panicked and didn’t know what to do. The procedure became excruciating… I could feel this intense burning. I closed my eyes and tried to breathe through it. They told me that was normal. No sterile dressing was applied and they said I’d be fine and to see them in two weeks. I walked out with a raw, open wound. No bandage – nothing.”
That night, things took a turn for the worse and Eve claims her arm doubled in size. “I looked like the Hulk. I couldn’t sleep. My kids couldn’t even hug me, I was terrified.” Eve called the clinic and was told to ‘put a plaster on it’ but things soon took a turn for the worse.”The blister kept growing – it was infected. I was put on the strongest antibiotics – and told I was at risk of sepsis.”
Cosmetic procedures should only be carried out by medically trained staff
Eve’s story is a stark reminder that cosmetic procedures should only be carried out by medically trained staff. Just last week, Health Secretary Wes Streeting announced new laws to stop dodgy practitioners harming people with botched bum lifts, lip fillers and Botox injections – in a victory for The Mirror’s campaign to end the scandal of unregulated activities.
Alice Webb, 33, became the first person to die in Britain following a liquid Brazilian bum lift. Her partner Dane Knight said: “We are finally seeing the government take meaningful action to protect others from the same tragedy. This victory is a crucial step to ensuring no family has to endure the heartbreak we have.”
Eve claims her arm doubled in size
Meanwhile, Eve claims the clinic promised to “fix the scar” later, but then went quiet for more than a year until The Mirror got in touch in August.
When asked to respond to Eve’s claims, the clinic said the treatment wasn’t carried out on the premises of Illusionz and was carried out by a trainer, although the Mirror has seen messages to prove Illusionz in Sheffield arranged it.
The Mirror has seen messages showing Illusionz arranging the appointment
Dr Isran Sajid from Harley Private Dental met Eve after her treatment and said he was horrified by what he saw. “When I first heard about Eve’s story, she came to see me quite distraught. I could see she was really quite visibly upset and nervous. We went through what had happened, how she went to see a practitioner who does aesthetics without a medical background, for what she presumed to be Endolift. However very quickly we established this was a fake device and the inappropriate treatment protocol.
“She was in pain during the procedure, bleeding during the procedure, there was a huge amount of what seemed to be liquified fat leaking out of her arm. The bleeding and bruising which followed just made the whole experience a horror show to hear about, to be honest. I have had about 10 or 15 messages on social media from patients who have had the fake Endolift treatment, they are messaging me about complications from nerve palsies, to burns with skin necrosis.
“They were asking for reassurance from myself that this was a normal post procedure and recovery routine. Unfortunately for a lot of them, it was the case that none of this should be happening and doesn’t sound normal.
“I don’t think someone who goes on a weekend course should be allowed to pick up a syringe and stick a needle in someone’s face without really understanding the issues that they can cause long term to someone.
Dr Isran Sajid from Harley Private Dental is helping fix Eve’s scar and restore her confidence
“It’s so important to choose a qualified practitioner who has a database of results and who has a robust complications management and strategy, someone who has dealt with complications who can go through scenarios and phases of the treatment with their patient before any treatment is carried out.”
It’s now been more than a year, and Eve still lives with the trauma and the scar. “Every time I talk about it, I want to cry. I’ve lost all confidence. I won’t wear short sleeves. I hate summer.”
Susannah Bennison – Patient Safety Advisor & UK Endolift Representative, said Eve’s case is a painful reminder of why Endolift® is strictly a doctor- and dentist-only procedure.
“This is not a facial or a beauty add-on. It’s a form of minor surgery,” she told the Mirror. “The safety profile of Endolift is exceptionally high, but only when used correctly, by trained and insured medical professionals.”
She advised people to do their homework and make sure:
– the clinic is using a genuine, CE-marked, MHRA-registered Endolift® device
– the practitioner is medically trained to deal with complications
– they can prescribe antibiotics if something goes wrong
She continued: “If your car needed specialist servicing, you wouldn’t let an unqualified stranger poke around under the bonnet. And you certainly wouldn’t let them neuter your dog. So why on earth would anyone let a non-medic insert a laser fibre beneath their skin?
“This isn’t about gatekeeping — it’s about protecting the public from harm. The fake devices flooding this industry are dangerous, and the unregulated training academies pushing them should be held to account.”
Eve wants others to learn from her experience and make sure they only book cosmetic procedures with medically backed practitioners. “I researched the medically backed Endolift® treatment and it seemed really good. The practitioner also said good things and mentioned the great results after it. I wasn’t aware about the counterfeit/fake treatments out there misusing the Endolift name. I would warn others to do their research in finding a medically backed practitioner and look for the Endolift trademark logo.”

Primate Elijah Ayodele, leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has accused President John Mahama of causing Ghana’s recent calamity by “cheating and deceiving” him, according to a statement from the prophet’s media aide, Osho Oluwatosin.
Ayodele linked the deaths of senior government figures to divine anger he says followed broken promises. The claim was framed as a spiritual judgment and presented as the prophet’s personal account of events.
Ayodele said he travelled to Ghana about 35 times at his own expense to support Mahama’s return to power, providing spiritual assistance and contacting two “powerful” individuals on the president’s behalf, only to be left feeling “cornered” and unacknowledged.
“I went to Ghana about 35 times with my personal money to assist John Mahama,” he said in the statement, adding that he helped when Mahama could not afford basic travel costs. He portrayed the alleged ingratitude as a moral breach that, in his view, drew divine retribution.
The cleric warned that the calamities would continue until Mahama “retraces his steps” and fulfils promises he made to God, repeating that the president’s failure to honour those commitments invited further misfortune.
“I don’t need Mahama’s money for anything,” Ayodele said, insisting the matter is spiritual rather than financial. He urged the president to repent and correct his conduct to halt what the prophet described as ongoing punishment.
Ayodele dismissed potential responses from the presidency as irrelevant to his cause and pointed to past predictions he says he made about Mahama’s return to office, including video evidence online.
He framed his remarks as a spiritual warning rather than a political attack, and presented them as a call for the president to make amends. The statements reflect the prophet’s view and have not been independently verified.
A new protest has landed in Accra without visas or vuvuzelas—the Wi-Fi placard. From comfortable rooms in London and Commonwealth latitudes arrived a thunderous memo: “Reinstate Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo immediately and without delay.”
Beautiful English. Gallops like a racehorse. Then it reaches Ghana’s junction and politely joins the queue behind verification, protocol, and that ever-helpful signboard: System Is Down.
Ghana’s reply, carried by the Attorney-General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, is the kind of smile that can slice red tape. Translation: Thank you; also, we are not a colony. The suspension, he says, follows Article 146 to the letter: petitions received; Council of State advice taken; prima facie established; an independent committee chaired by a Supreme Court Justice empanelled; attempts to halt the process dismissed by the Supreme Court and High Court as lacking merit; and a side-quest now before the ECOWAS Court because regional whistles exist. The punchline? The President is bound by the committee’s findings; this is not executive karaoke.
So whose clock should we use—the Commonwealth stopwatch or the Ghanaian wall clock that runs on “as and when”? Our elders would say: both the drum and the dancer must keep time. Sovereignty is the generator; accountability is the bulb. If the room is still dark, shouting “We have a generator!” is karaoke, not illumination. Switch it on. Show the wiring. Let the light fall where the doubts are hiding.
And yes, the optics matter. If you begin a case with “she’s assisting,” explain—clearly—when “assisting” became “suspended,” what the rules are, how counsel participates, and when this drama ends. Publish the procedures in human language; give the timeline teeth that can bite through Monday traffic and Friday rain. When due process is visible, even your loudest critics will wash their hands in it.
Meanwhile, the online square—God bless its data bundles—has been auditioning for stand-up night:
“Dear Commonwealth, ‘immediate and without delay’ is a lovely phrase. Kindly find Pokuase at 5 p.m. and demonstrate.”
“Advising Ghana on Article 146 without reading Article 146 is like stirring banku without a bowl. Energetic—but where are you putting it?”
“We accept flowers for our national mourning. Lectures are received on Tuesdays. Bring photocopies.”
“They should come and reinstate her themselves.”
“Reinstate today? Great. Also reinstate electricity in my area—immediate and without dumsor.”
Mockery aside, the jokers are onto something. Advice travels best when it kneels, not when it climbs onto the table. If the Commonwealth wants to help, bring bulbs, not bullhorns. If government wants to be believed, bring rules and a timetable, not slogans. It’s not either/or. A wise house lights both signboards at the gate—Sovereignty and Rule of Law—so even those seated at the back can see the stage and recognise the actors.
As for “immediate and without delay,” let the phrase keep its elegance and gain a calendar. Here, immediacy wears court shoes, not track spikes. The committee will speak; the law will point; the President will do what the Constitution says—no more, no less. If that sounds boring, good. Rule of law is supposed to be boring. It’s how nations sleep at night without needing a Commonwealth lullaby.
Until then, let’s cool tempers, sharpen procedures, and keep our humour. After all, a republic that can mourn with dignity, argue with civility, and laugh at itself still has its compass. And if the Wi-Fi placard insists on marching through our courtyard, it should kindly wipe its feet—and read the house rules posted by the door.

Mrs Nora Banaman Abbott, chief executive of Sleek Garments Exports Limited, warned that Ghana’s textile industry will need to move quickly if the African Growth and Opportunity Act is not renewed.
She said the starting point for that shift must be citizens and domestic demand, arguing that local sourcing can protect jobs and rebuild capacity. Her comments come as manufacturers weigh the prospect of lost duty free access to the United States.
Abbott urged practical steps: stronger domestic procurement, deeper regional sales under the AfCFTA, predictable financing, and lower production costs.
She pointed to past stretches when training, technical support and competitive finance helped local factories scale and export at volume, and noted that today only one Ghanaian plant still ships significant volumes to the U.S. under AGOA. That history, she said, proves Ghana can compete on quality and scale when the right conditions exist.
Much of her critique targeted procurement and payment practices that handicap local manufacturers. Why do we advance-pay abroad but make our manufacturers wait three months, she asked, calling the practice a “self-inflicted injury” that strips jobs from youth and deters investment.
Abbott also highlighted structural cost drivers — expensive power, unpredictable taxes, and the lack of long-term finance tailored to processing plants — and said these must be fixed if factories are to expand and absorb labour.
For immediate alternatives, Abbott pointed to regional markets under the African Continental Free Trade Area as the most viable near-term route.
She urged faster trade shows, regional distribution partnerships and market-linking platforms, and she called for revival funds to reach multiple manufacturers with clear conditions on finance, training and infrastructure.
“If AGOA goes, it will hurt. But it does not remove our markets,” she said, urging a national virtual roundtable of ministries, procurement agencies and industry to remove the cost drivers that make local production uncompetitive.
Dr Kojo Pumpuni Asante is the Director of Programmes and Policy Engagement for CDD
The Director of Programmes and Policy Engagement for CDD, Dr Kojo Pumpuni Asante, has criticised the government’s decision to review prophecies from religious leaders.
According to him, he sees no value in the Office of the Presidential Envoy for Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations or its role in assessing religious prophecies, particularly those related to high-profile political leaders, governance, national security, or public stability.
Two prominent ministers are under spiritual attacks – Apostle Dr Elijah Kofi King warns
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on August 16, 2025, Dr Asante indicated that the government’s directive could embolden what he describes as “charlatans,” who, under the guise of giving prophecies, seek to advance their own interests.
“… first of all, the issues about accreditation and regulation and all those things must be where we have been looking about it. In the past, it was about taxation and all those things because also people are actually selling religious products on TV every single day. There’s a lot of abuse so, if you enter this place and you say, now we are going to sanitise it and give it presidential endorsement so that now you channel [prophecies], if there are 1,000 prophets now, by that time there’ll be 2,000 because what does it do?
“It is basically to incentivise charlatans because there’s no punishment for false prophecy. If it’s useless, it will be just thrown away, but it gives you some sort of reputation, particularly if you are looking for power, access, notoriety and all of those things. For me, I don’t see the value in it,” he said.
Dr Asante’s comments come in response to a statement dated August 10, 2025, issued by Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, the Presidential Envoy for Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations, urging religious leaders to submit their prophecies for review.
Many prophets are sick and need medical attention – Kwesi Pratt fumes
The statement noted that the directive specifically applies to prophecies concerning high-profile political leaders, governance, national security, or public stability.
According to the statement, the move is intended to promote responsibility, discernment, and proper stewardship over the nation’s destiny, especially during these uncertain times.

Former Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, has once again stressed the need for Africa to unite politically if it is to make any meaningful impact in terms of development.
Kyerematen, who has held this view for a long time both as a private and public figure, believes the continent is endowed with abundant resources and that the only thing lacking is for Africa to see itself as one and mobilize its common resources for development.
Speaking on PanaGenius TV, the Independent presidential candidate for the 2024 election said he could not understand why a continent with a population of 1.4 billion, a GDP of 3.4 trillion dollars, more arable land than any other continent and hardworking human resources could still be poor.
He opined that his work with African leaders on the formation of the African Continental Free Trade Area, which focuses on economic integration, exposed that indeed African Unity was the way forward.
Stressing his point, the former Ghana Ambassador to the United States expressed his firm conviction that the AU’s Agenda 2063, which seeks the political integration of the continent, buttresses his view that African leaders recognize unity in all aspects as the best path to development.
I will contest 2028 general election – Alan Kyerematen declares
“The idea that each country within the African zone has its own area of comparative advantage is the more reason there has to be that political unity so that Ghana would not have to buy sausage for instance from Europe but from Kenya,” Kyerematen stated.
He believes there is strength in unity and that it is not something beyond the continent.

Ghana midfielder Mohammed Kudus announced his arrival in style for Tottenham Hotspur, providing two assists in a commanding 3-0 victory over Premier League returnees Burnley on Saturday.
Making his first start since completing a summer switch from West Ham United, the 24-year-old wasted little time in making an impact.
His precise cross in the 10th minute was met by Brazilian forward Richarlison, who opened the scoring to give Spurs a 1-0 lead at the break.
Kudus was again the architect after the interval, picking out Richarlison inside the box for a spectacular acrobatic finish that doubled the advantage.
Welsh forward Brennan Johnson then sealed the win in the 66th minute to round off an impressive afternoon for the North Londoners.
Kudus, who was replaced by French youngster Mathys Tel in the 85th minute, will be hoping to retain his spot in Thomas Frank’s starting XI when Spurs travel to the Etihad Stadium to face defending champions Manchester City in their next weekend.
Ghanaian actor and filmmaker Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil Win, has finally addressed the swirling rumors that have cast a shadow over the recent launch of his latest movie. The beloved Kumawood star found himself at the center of controversy after allegations surfaced on social media suggesting he had engaged in ritual sacrifices to guarantee the success of his films.
In a candid interview with Graphic Showbiz, Lil Win described the accusations as deeply painful, admitting that they struck at the heart of his values and reputation. “The accusations hurt me very much, but they made me stronger,” he said, visibly emotional but firm in his stance.
Lil Win emphasized that his career is built on perseverance, creativity, and faith—not superstition. “I have never engaged in any rituals for my movies. My success is a product of hard work, determination, and God’s grace,” he asserted, dispelling any ambiguity around the rumors.
The allegations gained traction across social media platforms in the days leading up to the film’s premiere, sparking speculation and debate. For Lil Win, the ordeal has underscored the harsh realities of celebrity life in the digital age, where misinformation can spread rapidly and cause significant personal damage.
Amid the noise and negativity, the actor found strength in music, specifically in Daddy Lumba’s anthem “Yentie Obiaa”—a song that champions resilience and self-belief. “The song reminds me to keep my head up and not let negativity distract me from my goals,” he shared, crediting it as a source of inspiration during a challenging time.
Despite the emotional weight of the allegations, Lil Win refused to let the situation derail his passion. He went ahead with the movie premiere, an act that not only showcased his latest creative work but also served as a powerful statement of perseverance.
Dampare Exposed As Afua Pokuaa Reveals Why Mahama Sacked Him
News Hub Creator10h
Afia Pokuaa, also known as Vim Lady and the host of Egyasogyaso on Okay FM, commented on the sacking of former IGP Dr. Akuffo Dampare, explaining what she believes influenced former President John Mahama’s decision.
She claimed on air that Dampare was removed because he prioritized public perception over the well-being of his officers.
She accused him of marginalizing regional police leaders, consolidating authority, and claiming sole credit for policing successes, which led to discontent and weakened cohesion within the police service.
Vim Lady also reported the arrest of a suspect connected to the 2019 assassination of journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale.
The suspect, once a colleague of Suale, reportedly gave a photo to a powerful political figure shortly before the murder and had previously been expelled from Tiger Eye PI.
Pokuaa attributed Dampare’s dismissal to his failure to care for the police internally, poor handling of high-profile investigations, and a leadership approach that alienated colleagues.
play videoNana Obiri Boahen, the Golden Stool and Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II
Lawyer and historian Nana Obiri Boahen has called out Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs and Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area, over his recent comments about the Golden Stool of the Ashanti people, known as Sika Dwa Kofi.
According to Obiri Boahen, commentary surrounding the Golden Stool must be approached with caution since it forms a significant part of Ashanti history.
Although he did not directly address whether the stool is welded, as the Dormaahene has claimed, Obiri Boahen emphasised that its relevance should not be undermined.
Speaking in an interview on Wontumi TV on August 16, 2025, he said, “So, the Golden Stool, please, with due respect, don’t underrate the potency of the Golden Stool. Under no circumstances should you speak against it. It is like you are not a Jew but underrating the Ark. Because the Ark, if you are not a Levite, you can’t touch it.”
He added, “The Golden Stool of the Ashanti people, if you are not a royal, you can never carry it. That is one of the mysteries.”
The former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) further stressed that anyone who is not affiliated with the Ashanti royal lineage should desist from interfering in matters concerning the stool.
Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II has stated that there is no iota of truth in the claim that a spiritual being can command things from the skies for them to materialise into the physical realm.
According to the Dormaahene, the Golden Stool of the Ashanti people, known as Sika Dwa Kofi, which is said to have been summoned down from the sky by the high priest Okomfo Anokye, appeared welded when it was displayed in public.
The Golden Stool looks welded; nobody can command anything from the skies – Dormaahene claims
He, therefore, cast doubt on the historical account of it being commanded from the sky.
Speaking during the launch of the Bonokyempem Council in the Bono Region on August 14, 2025, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, known in legal circles as Justice Daniel Mensah and currently serving as a High Court Judge, stated, “If anyone tells you they can summon something to descend from the sky, I, Agyeman Badu II, am saying it is a lie.”
“Didn’t you see when the Golden Stool was recently outdoored, it looked welded? Didn’t you see?” he questioned.
Meanwhile, according to history, the Golden Stool is said to have descended in a cloud of white dust, amidst thunder and landed on the lap of the first Asante king, Osei Tutu I, by the command of the Okomfo Anokye, a fetish priest.
Dormaahene, on the other hand, has been an astute critic of historical narratives, especially those he has described as distorted facts in the country’s history.

Kwaku Oteng is the President and Founder of the Angel Group of Companies
A young man who followed prominent public figure, Kwaku Oteng, to the Black Stars Square on Friday, August 15, 2025, where an interdenominational state funeral was held for the last six victims of the August 6, 2025, helicopter crash, received a surprise of his life when a soldier yelled at him.
The young man trailed behind Kwaku Oteng, lavishing him with appellations, praises and accolades in a loud voice that drew attention from onlookers.
“I will come to Kumasi and visit you. Asanteman is proud of you, may you live long for a thousand years no puncture. God bless you for what you are doing for Ghana. You are the destiny changer. You’ve made all Asantes proud, live long, Kwaku Oteng,” he kept shouting.

As Kwaku Oteng walked down the road to find a seat, the young man kept following and shouting still, but it was short-lived as Kwaku Oteng moved a few steps further.
A soldier who may have monitored the movement and actions of the man from afar, angrily shouted at the top of his voice, saying, “My friend, shut up! You are making noise,” to warn him, and he immediately turned away.
The shout created a scene momentarily as others turned to catch a glimpse of the young.
However, the young man who was engaging in praising-singing sycophancy or greetings for cash did not look back as he moved away from the place.

A 33-year-old businessman has been sentenced to 22 months’ imprisonment in hard labour for defrauding his landlord of GH¢255,930.00.
He did so under the pretext of securing him a modern type of Honda Civic 4*4 vehicle.
Gabson Frimpong admitted the offence and was convicted on his own plea and sentenced accordingly.
Police Chief Inspector Christian Amartey, prosecuting, said Peter Kitile Yeboah, the Complainant, was a businessman residing at Pakyi No. 2, near Kumasi but based in Ivory Coast.
He said Frimpong, the convict, was also a businessman and a former tenant of the Complainant at Pakyi No.2.
Prosecution said between September 21, 2024, and October 21, 2024, convict told then his landlord and complainant that he dealt in home used cars/vehicles and that one of his customers absconded with his capital thus, he could not continue his business.
He then pleaded with complainant to allow him to sell his Honda Civic 4×4 private car with registration number AS 4539-13 (2010 model) and top up with additional amount to help get the 2012 Honda Civic 4×4 vehicle for him, the Court heard.
Chief Inspector Amartey said the Complainant was touched by the plight of Frimpong and willingly gave out the vehicle in addition to its documents to him to sell after which he would add some amount of money as suggested.
That within few weeks the convict was able to sell the vehicle at GHC55,000.00.
Prosecution said the Complainant became convinced that Frimpong would deliver when given the opportunity.
Complainant asked his daughter- Anastasia Kitile Yeboah, a witness in the case, to give GH¢95,000.00 to the convict which she did and convict realizing that Complainant was much involved or interested in the business, he requested for additional money and between September 21, 2024 and October 21, 2024, various sums of money amounting to GHC 255,930.00 were given to convict including the GH¢55,000.00.
Chief Inspector Amartey said after Frimpong had succeeded in collecting a total of GH¢255,930.00 from Complainant, he left the house, saying he was going to Togo to bring the 2012 Honda model.
Since then, Frimpong could not be traced only for him to call Complainant to tell him he had been duped by two Nigerians in Togo, the Court was told.
Chief Inspector Amartey said complainant upon hearing the sad news invited him (convict) to come home but he did not go.
However, he was arrested by Police Abuakwa for similar crimes and his arrest went viral hence he was identified by the complainant.
Police Abuakwa after their investigation handed him over to the Police at Pakyi for investigation, Police told the Court.
Prosecution said Frimpong in his caution statement to police admitted the offence in the presence of an independent witness.

Her leadership and experience in conflict management are expected to be instrumental in addressing these concerns, fostering stability in Korle Klottey, and setting a precedent for handling similar security challenges across Ghana.
Former president John Evans Atta Mills’ son describes Dr Mahamdu Bawumia as extremely disappointing
News Hub Creator11h
In a candid live interview on Onua Television’s morning show with Captain Smart, Atta Mills’ son criticized Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, describing him as “extremely disappointing.” This criticism aligns with comments made by Samira Bawumia, who has on previous occasions referred to former President John Mahama as “incompetent.”
As Ghana’s Vice President, Dr. Bawumia has been instrumental in shaping the nation’s economic policies, serving as Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana and playing a key role in implementing monetary frameworks. Nevertheless, opinions on his effectiveness remain mixed, with Atta Mills’ son voicing dissatisfaction.
The comparison between Dr. Bawumia and John Mahama highlights their differing approaches to leadership and economic management. While Bawumia has emphasized financial reforms and monetary policy, Mahama prioritized building infrastructure and advancing social programs during his tenure.
Despite his critique of Dr. Bawumia, Atta Mills’ son confirmed his support for former President Mahama, maintaining that he considers Mahama the best candidate to lead the country.
The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed 37 new Mpox cases, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 409 as of August 14, 2025. Two patients are on admission.
The update follows the August 11 report, when 26 new cases were recorded, raising the tally then to 372. Earlier on August 7, the GHS had confirmed 346 infections.
The national death toll remains at one.
Health officials say Mpox spreads mainly through close contact with an infected person.
Symptoms include fever, skin rashes, and swollen lymph nodes.
The GHS is advising the public to avoid close contact with people showing symptoms, wash hands regularly with soap and water, avoid frequent touching of the eyes, nose, and mouth, and wear a mask when caring for a sick person.
The service says it is monitoring the outbreak, tracing contacts, and intensifying public education with support from regional health directorates.
A financial crisis threatening the academic future of nearly 200 Ghanaian students at the University of Memphis has been temporarily averted.
The University of Memphis has confirmed the receipt of a $1 million payment from the government, a critical measure that has halted eviction and deportation threats against the students.
The payment, however, is a partial solution to a larger problem.
The university stated that it only addresses a fraction of the total $3.6 million debt owed by the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat (GSS) under a government sponsorship programme, leaving an outstanding balance of $2.2 million.
The situation came to a head earlier this month when the university issued a stern warning that Ghanaian students risked losing their scholarships, on-campus housing, and legal residency if their outstanding fees were not settled by a deadline of August 9, 2025.
Addressing the issue at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, GSS Registrar Alex Kwaku Asafo-Agyei acknowledged the payment delays but assured that students would not be deported.
“We are now processing a $1 million payment,” Asafo-Agyei confirmed.
He explained that delays in the transfer of funds were a result of an ongoing audit, adding that the payment was being routed through Ghana’s Controller and Accountant General’s Department and the Bank of Ghana for final transfer.
The University of Memphis President, Dr. Bill Hardgrave, had earlier attributed the payment delays to Ghana’s recent political transition following the December 2024 elections.
He expressed hope for a swift resolution to the issue.
“I think there was a regime change in Ghana, and that affected the budget, but we’re hopeful that gets corrected because we’d love to keep those students on campus,” Dr. Hardgrave said.
The affected students are primarily enrolled in high-demand science, engineering, and business programs.
This incident underscores the significant financial and bureaucratic challenges faced by many international students who rely on government sponsorship.
The University of Memphis has encouraged donations to its Gary Shorb International Student Support Fund to provide emergency aid to the students while the full payment is awaited.
This is not the first time Ghanaian students abroad have faced such a crisis. Similar reports of delayed fee payments and financial difficulties have emerged from students in the United Kingdom, Russia, China, and Eastern Europe, highlighting a recurring challenge in managing foreign scholarships and financial commitments.
The incident shines a spotlight on the need for streamlined, reliable, and transparent processes to prevent future disruptions to the education of Ghana’s sponsored students abroad.

In a dramatic turn of events, security operatives have confirmed the arrest of Brigadier Opoku in Kumasi following weeks of intensive investigations. The high-ranking officer, who had been under close surveillance, was apprehended in connection with a string of controversial dealings that have sparked public outrage.
According to credible sources, a significant breakthrough came from evidence reportedly provided by the late Dr. Omane Boamah before his death. The documents and testimonies he left behind are said to have shed light on hidden transactions and networks that implicated Brigadier Opoku, giving investigators a clear trail to follow.
Security officials revealed that the late Dr. Boamah’s files contained detailed accounts of covert activities, including alleged misuse of military resources and secret operations that had long evaded scrutiny. His revelations, described as “explosive and highly sensitive,” became central to the case, eventually tightening the noose around the Brigadier.
Residents in Kumasi expressed shock at the arrest, with many gathering near the Central Police Headquarters where the officer is being held. Some described the development as a victory for justice, while others called for transparency to ensure the matter is not swept under the carpet.
Meanwhile, national security sources have hinted that Brigadier Opoku’s arrest could open the door to further investigations involving other senior figures. The case is expected to test the government’s commitment to accountability within the military and political space.
As the nation awaits an official statement, legal experts predict that the evidence left behind by Dr. Boamah will play a decisive role in upcoming court proceedings. For now, the arrest marks a pivotal moment in a saga that has gripped the country, raising fresh questions about power, secrecy, and justice at the highest levels.

“The knowledge and skills you acquire will position you for sustainable income generation,” she said.
She said by promoting sustainable agriculture practices and providing support to local farmers, the programme would not only provide employment opportunities for the local youth and women, but also help reduce reliance on imports.
The project which is being implemented with support from experts in the agriculture and agribusiness sector, is expected to expand to other traditional areas in North Dayi by October this year.
The participants expressed appreciation for the programme, saying the initiative was promising and could contribute to the development of North Dayi’s agricultural sector and improve the livelihoods of its constituents.

The Auditor-General has reported significant misstatements and weaknesses in the 2024 Whole-of-Government Accounts (WGA), including an overstatement of Ghana’s public debt by GH¢138.91 billion, as well as deficiencies in financial reporting and asset management.
The findings, contained in the Report of the Auditor-General on the Public Accounts of Ghana for the Year Ended 31 December 2024, followed an independent audit of the government’s consolidated accounts prepared by the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) in line with the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921).
The report, available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), noted that the public debt figure captured in the WGA was significantly overstated, recommending that the CAGD work with the Ministry of Finance to carry out a comprehensive reconciliation to address both overstatements and omissions.
It also revealed that GH¢74.24 billion recorded as provisions for investments should have been classified as impairment losses in accordance with International Public Sector Accounting Standard (IPSAS) 41.
The Auditor-General urged the CAGD to strengthen its quality assurance processes during consolidation to prevent such errors.
The audit further disclosed that receivables for assessed but uncollected income tax and Value Added Tax (VAT) as of December 31, 2024, were not recognised in the accounts, contrary to IPSAS 23 requirements, recommending closer coordination between the CAGD, the Ghana Revenue Authority, and the Ministry of Finance to align revenue recognition with the accrual basis.
In addition, the report found that the CAGD had not conducted impairment tests on non-financial assets, as required under IPSAS 21 and IPSAS 26, and urged the establishment of a formal process for regular asset assessments.
The audit also flagged inconsistencies in Inter-Company Account balances, which stood at GH¢7.99 billion at the start of the year and GH¢8.55 billion at year-end, instead of being zero after consolidation, calling for immediate investigation and correction.
Another area of concern was the incomplete processing of transactions by covered entities through the Ghana Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS). The report called for strict enforcement of the PFM Act provisions, backed by capacity building, system upgrades, and sanctions for persistent non-compliance.
On public investments, the Auditor-General observed that disinvestments amounting to GH¢10.30 billion and new investments of GH¢19.25 billion lacked adequate narrative and note disclosures, depriving the public of key information on rationale, implications, and expected returns.
The report concluded that while the audit aimed to give an opinion on the government’s financial statements, the highlighted issues required urgent attention to enhance fiscal transparency, accuracy, and accountability in public financial management.
Former England striker Jermain Defoe has hailed Ghana international Antoine Semenyo as the standout performer in AFC Bournemouth’s Premier League opener against Liverpool.
Semenyo shone at Anfield on Friday night August 15, 2025, scoring twice in Bournemouth’s 4-2 defeat, and earned high praise from Defoe, who described the 25-year-old as the best player on the pitch.
“Semenyo was the best player on the pitch. He is so dynamic, and he is strong going forward, and he is good with his feet,” he told Premier League Production.
“With his power, it is always difficult to play against him,” he added.
Bournemouth will be hoping Semenyo can maintain this form when they welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to the Vitality Stadium next weekend.
The forward will be looking to build on a stellar season in which he netted 11 goals in the English top flight, aiming to help the Cherries mount another strong campaign.
Heavy clashes erupted this week between Congo’s army and a militia founded by a war criminal convicted at the International Criminal Court but later released, both sides said, and one civil society activist put the civilian death toll at 19.
Thomas Lubanga, an Ituri native, told Reuters in March that he was forming the Convention for the Popular Revolution (CPR) to topple the regional government, creating another potential security threat in war-scarred eastern Congo where Rwanda-backed M23 rebels have also seized significant territory.
At the time, the group had not launched military operations, he said.
This week, however, Congo’s army said the CPR had attempted multiple attacks and that soldiers had killed 12 of the group’s fighters in two different locations around 30 kilometres (19 miles) north of Bunia, the Ituri capital.
A CPR commander, speaking to Reuters on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to brief the media, said there were clashes but acknowledged the death of just “one of my men”.
Dieudonne Losa, a civil society activist in Bunia, said on Friday that 19 civilian deaths had been recorded, including 13 elderly women and four young girls.
“What is happening north of Bunia is an unacceptable situation,” Losa said.
The International Criminal Court secured a conviction against Lubanga in 2012 on charges of recruiting child soldiers and sentenced him to 14 years in prison.
He was released in 2020 and President Felix Tshisekedi appointed him to a task force to bring peace to Ituri. But in 2022 he was taken hostage for two months by a rebel group, which he blamed on the government, and he then based himself in Uganda.
It is unclear how many combatants Lubanga might control. U.N. experts last year accused him of mobilising fighters to support a local militia and M23.
Gospel musician Kwadwo Ampong, widely known as Great Ampong, has declared his readiness to offer a personal apology to former President John Dramani Mahama, even if it requires him to kneel.
Speaking in an interview on Oyerepa TV, Ampong explained that while he has already released a song titled Apology to convey his remorse, he is eager to go beyond the music if given the chance to meet the former head of state.
“I believe President Mahama will hear the song, but if I ever get the opportunity to stand before him and ask for forgiveness directly, I would gladly do so,” he said.
Ampong also highlighted the challenges of gaining access to the Jubilee House, noting that a formal introduction or guidance would be necessary for such a meeting. “It’s not a place you just walk into. Someone must take you there, otherwise it wouldn’t be proper,” he observed.
He further drew comparisons with dancehall artiste Shatta Wale, who openly apologised to Mahama ahead of the 2024 elections. According to Ampong, he would not hesitate to follow a similar path if the opportunity arises. “If God permits and I am granted the chance, I will not hesitate to apologise in person, even on my knees, because others have done so before me,” he added.
Political commentators suggest that Ampong’s move may be linked to criticisms he directed at Mahama in the period leading up to the 2016 elections. Some analysts believe the gesture is an attempt to rebuild relations with the former President after his electoral comeback, while others question the timing, pointing out that such reconciliatory steps were absent during Mahama’s years in opposition.
Nonetheless, the musician insists that his intentions are genuine and rooted in humility. His statement has sparked public interest, with many debating whether the apology will indeed be accepted and what impact it might have on his public image.
For now, Ampong’s declaration reflects a willingness to bridge old divides, as he hopes to restore goodwill between himself and the former President through a personal act of contrition.
Firebrand politician and Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, has made startling claims following reports of a Ghanaian military helicopter allegedly crashing mid-air. According to him, former President John Dramani Mahama should be extremely cautious, as there may be hidden plots designed to put his life in danger.
Speaking in a recent interview, Agyapong alleged that the helicopter incident could be more than just an accident. He hinted that powerful forces might be working behind the scenes with intentions to destabilize Ghana’s political atmosphere ahead of the upcoming elections. “President Mahama must be very careful. What happened with the helicopter is not something to take lightly. Sometimes what looks like an accident may be a planned trap,” Agyapong reportedly said.
His comments have sparked mixed reactions, with some Ghanaians taking his warning seriously while others dismissed it as political sensationalism. Supporters of the former president have expressed concern, urging security agencies to investigate the crash thoroughly to ensure it was not linked to any foul play.
Political analysts note that such statements, especially in an election season, could heighten tensions and breed fear among the public. They have called on national security authorities to remain alert and reassure citizens of their safety.
As of now, neither the Ghana Armed Forces nor John Mahama himself has officially responded to Agyapong’s remarks. However, the issue has gained traction on social media, where debates rage over whether the crash was indeed accidental or tied to a deeper political conspiracy.
The development adds another layer of controversy to Ghana’s heated political climate, with calls for transparency, accountability, and heightened protection for political figures.
Radiographers remain in critically short supply in Ghana and across Africa, raising concerns about the timely detection and treatment of life-threatening diseases.
Ghana currently has only 800 radiographers serving a population of over 30 million, while Nigeria, with a population of over 200 million, has just 200 clinical radiographers.
This shortage means that conditions affecting the innermost parts of the human body are often difficult to detect and treat promptly.
According to the President of the Ghana Society of Radiographers, Dennis Amartey Ahia, Ghana has not recruited additional radiographers since 2019 due to external economic policy restrictions.
Experts also point to the high cost of training as a major factor. Head of the Imaging Department at the University of Cape Coast, Professor Eric Kwasi Ofori, explained:
“To train a postgraduate student in radiography you need about 15 to 20,000 pounds for a year, and if it’s PhD you have to pay for four years — it’s a challenge — so we have developed a curriculum locally and need government support.”
Radiologists who interpret the scans are even fewer. Ghana has only 93, which means each serves roughly 400,000 people. Many patients are forced to travel long distances for their services, often resulting in treatment delays and serious complications.
However, experts believe expanding the roles of radiographers to include image interpretation may bring their much-needed services closer to patients.
At the International Society of Radiographers and Radiological Technologists Conference and the Ghana Society of Radiographers’ Triennial Conference for English-speaking countries, GSR President Dennis Amartey Ahia told Citi News “we as radiographers are opening our scope to be able to interpret the X-ray so that the patient won’t need to travel to find the 93 radiographers in the country”.

National Deputy Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei, has shared the harrowing details of what he went through when suspected National Democratic Congress (NDC) thugs pummeled him at Ablekuma North on July 11, 2025.

It will be recalled that during the rerun of parliamentary elections in 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North constituency on July 11, 2025, incidents of electoral violence were recorded at some polling stations.
At the St Peter’s Methodist Church Polling Station, thugs alleged to be affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) pummeled Chris Llyod Nii Kwei.
Multiple videos from the scene, which have since gone viral on social and mainstream media, captured moments where the suspected thugs physically assaulted Llyod.
Giving a detailed account of what happened, he said, the assault on him was unprovoked because he was only calling for calm after some of his party members had been allegedly beaten up.
“I noticed our guys were being beaten, so I rushed in to talk to Mustapha Gbande to call off his guys, but he signalled his rejection, and before I knew it, they started heckling me and slaps followed.
“I tried to retreat, but another person landed a hefty blow that sent me crashing to the ground, twisting my leg in the process. In fact, I went off for about 30 seconds,” he explained
He added that despite his injuries, he managed to make his way to the party’s candidate office, where he met with distraught supporters and had to put on a brave face to boost party morale.
He claimed to have done this with remarkable resilience just to inspire his party members to remain resolute and work towards the party’s victory.
However, after the rerun in 19 polling stations which were in dispute, the seat was won by the NDC’s Ewurabena Aubynn, who polled 34,090 votes.
Her main contender from the NPP, Akua Afriyie, garnered a total of 33,881 votes, whereas 411 of the ballots cast were rejected.
The parliamentary rerun in 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North constituency held on Friday, July 11, 2025, became necessary following fallout from the December 2024 election, where NDC and NPP had fierce disagreement as each party claimed to have won the seat.
The Electoral Commission, upon thorough investigations into the claims by each party, decided to conduct a rerun of the election in 19 polling stations where the commission claimed to have found anomalies.

Donald Trump says negotiating a permanent peace agreement is the best way to end the war in Ukraine, rather than via a temporary ceasefire.
On his way to meet Putin in Alaska, Trump said he wouldn’t be happy if he left without a ceasefire, but afterwards posted on social media that ceasefires “oftentimes do not hold up”.
Trump’s new plan to bypass an initial ceasefire is a blow to Kyiv and its European allies, as it was one of their main requests, Ukraine correspondent James Waterhouse writes.
Meanwhile, Zelensky says he will travel to Washington, DC, to meet Trump on Monday.
In Kyiv, Ukrainians say they feel “crushed” by Trump’s red carpet welcome for Putin.
No agreement was reached at the Alaska summit – Trump insisted progress was made, while Putin said he was “sincerely interested” in ending the conflict.

The streets of Ga Mashie in Accra came alive on Saturday August 16, 2025, as the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, led this year’s Homowo Festival with the traditional sprinkling of Kpekple, accompanied by drumming, dancing and musketry firing.
The centuries-old celebration, which translates as “hooting at hunger,” commemorates the Ga people’s triumph over a historic famine and has evolved into a vibrant expression of unity, resilience, and cultural pride.
Sankofa Series: Exploring the events, unique practices of Homowo Festival
Festivities began with the Gbese Mantse, Nii Ayi-Bonte II, performing the sacred sprinkling of Kpekple, a traditional cornmeal dish along the streets from Usher Fort through Ga Mashie.
The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, followed with ritual sprinklings at several Ga stool houses, reaffirming the cultural bond between the clans of the Ga State.
Residents and visitors clad in colourful traditional regalia joined the celebrations, filling the air with drumming, spirited dancing and ceremonial gunfire.
The festival atmosphere drew not only indigenes but also tourists and members of the diaspora eager to connect with the richness of Ga heritage.
Speaking at the event, the Paramount Chief of the Abola Traditional Council and Atofotse (Advisor) of the Ga State, Nii Ahene Nunoo III, emphasised the need for unity within Ga Mashie.
Addressing the festival on the theme “Deepening the Unity Within Abola,” he urged community members to embrace inclusiveness and work collectively for progress.
“Unity is not merely a concept; it is a lived experience. It is what binds us together as brothers and sisters, irrespective of our backgrounds, beliefs, or interests. In times of joy, we celebrate as one; in times of challenge, we rally together,” he said on August 16, 2025.
The Paramount Chief outlined strategies such as regular community dialogue forums, inclusivity across gender and age, and youth mentorship to prepare the next generation of leaders.
He also called for stronger partnerships with local organizations, NGOs, and businesses to enhance development and resolve conflicts.
Beyond rituals and parades, Homowo also served as a period of family reunions, communal meals and peace-promoting rites.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said Moscow is ready for an early end to hostilities in Ukraine through peaceful means, following his talks with U.S. President Donald Trump in Alaska.
In a statement released by the Kremlin on Saturday, Putin said Russia respected Washington’s position that fighting must stop soon and was prepared to move toward resolving the conflict “on a fair basis.” He described his discussions with Trump as “very frank” and said they brought both sides “closer to the necessary decisions.”
Putin added that his visit to Alaska was “timely and very useful,” noting that the talks covered almost all areas of Russia–U.S. relations, in addition to the Ukraine crisis.
The two leaders met for about three hours in Anchorage on Friday, focusing primarily on Ukraine and ways to reshape bilateral ties that have been strained in recent years. While no formal deal was reached, both sides said progress had been made.
The remarks mark one of Putin’s clearest recent signals of willingness to pursue a negotiated settlement, though Kyiv and its European allies have consistently insisted that any peace process must fully respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The death toll from floods on Cape Verde’s island of Sao Vicente has climbed to nine after a powerful storm struck the archipelago earlier this week, local authorities said on Friday.
The government has declared two days of national mourning and a six-month state of emergency on three islands most affected by Monday night’s disaster. Homes, bridges and roads were destroyed, with entire neighborhoods submerged under floodwaters.
The National Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics warned that heavy rains could hit again from Saturday, driven by a tropical wave expected to intensify overnight on August 17. The southern islands of Maio, Santiago, Fogo and Brava are forecast to see the heaviest downpours, along with thunderstorms and strong winds spreading later across the country.
Among the victims was a 79-year-old man whose body was found Wednesday after being reported missing. Two others remain unaccounted for. Authorities say recovery and relief efforts are continuing, with several countries offering support. A Portuguese navy vessel docked on Friday carrying humanitarian supplies.
The disaster underscores Cape Verde’s exposure to extreme weather events, which officials warn are becoming more frequent and destructive.
Popular Ibom Air passenger, Comfort Emmanson has refuted media reports that she filed a N500 billion lawsuit against the airline.
This comes in the wake of the August 5th incident in which she was forcibly removed from one of their aircraft following a confrontation with an air hostess.
A report surfaced online today claiming that Comfort had dragged the airline to court, demanding N500 billion in damages. However, she took to her Instagram Stories to dismiss this claim. She also hinted that she plans to take legal action against the airline in the future.
Top European leaders have reaffirmed their support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity following U.S. President Donald Trump’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday.
In a joint statement on Saturday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and European Council President Antonio Costa said Trump had briefed them and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the outcome of the Alaska talks.
The leaders welcomed Trump’s declaration that Washington was ready to provide “ironclad security guarantees” for Ukraine and expressed support for a potential trilateral summit involving Trump, Zelensky and Putin with European backing.
“No limitations should be placed on Ukraine’s armed forces or on its cooperation with third countries. Russia cannot have a veto against Ukraine’s pathway to the EU and NATO,” the statement read.
They stressed that Ukraine alone must decide on its territory, and that international borders “must not be changed by force.” The statement also pledged continued European sanctions and economic pressure against Russia as long as the war continues.
Trump described his meeting with Putin as “very productive,” saying the two sides had agreed on “many points” but acknowledged no formal deal had been reached.
Renowned statesman and New Patriotic Party (NPP) elder, Kwame Pianim, has stated a number of reasons for which he believes President John Dramani Mahama is currently the only leader capable of setting the country on the right path.
Detailing these points while explaining a point during an interview, Pianim stated that President Mahama is the most experienced individual when it comes to identifying the country’s problems and addressing them, drawing from his extensive public service journey, from assemblyman to the highest office of the land.

“The president has the historic opportunity to set this country right. He is the only person who can set this country right. I say it and people misinterpret me. He has been a district assemblyman, an MP, a deputy minister, a minister, a vice president, been a president and he’s come back as a president. He knows all the tricks of Ghanaians. He knows all the problems,” he said in an interview with TV3’s Beatrice Adu.
Pianim further intimated that with the president’s rich expertise, he can lead the country toward the path citizens are yearning for and set an exemplary leadership style that would impact future generations.
He added that the president could also help reform the nature of politics in Ghana — particularly its monetisation.
“He is the only person who doesn’t need me or the voters for an election. He doesn’t need his political party. He’s not going to run again because he has only one term. He is the only Ghanaian out of the 35 million of us who can set the agenda so that the country takes another path. A path that will give hope and trust to the young people who are coming, makes people loyal and stop people going into politics, because they just want to get rich,” he said.

He added, “He is the only person. Nobody else who comes in has just four years, can run again and therefore you need your political party. You need the voters. He doesn’t need the voters again; he doesn’t need the political party. He is the only one who has this unique historical opportunity to set the agenda for Ghana.”
