The visionary mogul who became Ghana’s first private jet owner

0

Alhaji Asoma Abu Banda was a renowned entrepreneur, business magnate, philanthropist, role model and patriot.

He was born in June 1933 at Kintampo in the Brong Ahafo Region of Ghana and was destined to create employment and economic empowerment for many people worldwide.

After his elementary education at Kintampo and Kumasi Government Boys, he went on to receive an Ordinary and Advanced Level certificate as well as a diploma in Marketing/ Sales Management in London.

He later undertook several courses in marketing, management and shipping to help him understand better and excel in the line of the profession he had chosen for himself.

Born into a family with a strong business orientation, Alhaji Asoma Abu Banda naturally got initiated into the family business.

At a tender age, he worked with his father in the road transport business and showed early signs of hard work and entrepreneurship.

Between 1955 and 1957, he was assigned the arduous job of buying cattle from Mail, Niger and Upper Volta (now Burkina Faso) and transporting them on foot to Kumasi, a job which he executed with diligence and devotion.

Determined to broaden his horizon and acquire the requisite entrepreneurial competencies, Alhaji Asoma Abu Banda travelled to London in 1960 to further his education.

He later entered the service of Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) of London as a Director in charge of Africa and the Middle East.

Alhaji Banda ventured into private business in 1975 with partners and established a shipping company in London, OT Africa line, and Antrak Group of Companies (London and Ghana).

Due to his able leadership and business acumen, more than 146 branches of his companies have been opened in countries across the world, creating jobs for over 500,000 people globally.

He became the Chairman of Antrak Air, a hundred percent Ghanaian–owned company and the first of its kind in the history of the aviation industry in the country.

Alhaji Banda showed tremendous commitment and support towards the socio-economic development of the country.

He was very instrumental in making the Antrak Group of companies (Ghana) finance the reconstruction, refurbishment and maintenance of the maternity wing of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in 1999 at a cost of nearly one billion Cedis.

In collaboration with his foreign partners, he invested ten million US Dollars (about 70 billion Cedis ) in the establishment of the Tema Container Terminal, resulting in the creation of about 100 jobs.

Alhaji also demonstrated his support for the maintenance of security, peace and tranquility in the country by establishing the Crime Prevention Foundation to help resource the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies. In addition, he has also constructed a female Cell for Nima Police Station in Accra.

Alhaji Banda employed over 3,000 people annually. As a staunch and devout Muslim, Alhaji Banda constructed a Mosque at the Airport Residential Area at a total cost of over one million US Dollars.

Alhaji Banda, in recognition of his numerous contributions to the socio-economic growth of this country, received many awards from not only the Ghanaian government but also from other organizations in many countries, notable among which are:

He was the first African to own a ship and the first Ghanaian to own an aircraft

He was conferred with the Companion of the Order of Volta by the State, honoured for lifetime achievement by the Ghana Shippers Council in recognition of his great strides in the maritime industry.

His Shipping company won the Best Shipping Line of the World twice (1999/2000)

Alhaji Asoma Abu Banda serves on a number of Boards, including the following: the Council of State, Ghana Port and Harbours Authority, and Ghana Maritime Authority, among others.

With the help of some members, he established the People’s Convention Party (PCP).

Alhaji Banda single-handedly spearheaded the formation of the Great Alliance, which merged with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the 1996 election, which had former president Kuffour and Ackaah as flagbearer and running mates respectively.

He was the Chairman of the PCP, which later became the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) after he had gone to court on behalf of the party to have the name changed.

He served as a Board member of Ghana Airways and a Board member of Cal Bank Ltd. He was also the Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba.

Reports have noted that the businessman has passed away.

The news of his passing was announced by Dele Momodu, a Nigerian publisher believed to have close ties to the family of the late Alhaji Banda.

He expressed his condolences, adding that he had reached out to the widow of the deceased business tycoon to offer his sympathies.

Government’s net borrowing stands at GH¢7.1 billion – Ato Forson

0

Cassiel Ato-Forson, Minister of Finance Cassiel Ato-Forson, Minister of Finance

Ghana’s finance minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has clarified that the Mahama-led government’s net borrowing currently stands at GH¢7.1 billion, attributing it primarily to servicing debts inherited from the previous administration.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, Dr. Forson provided a breakdown of treasury bill transactions since President John Mahama assumed office in January 2025.

According to him, total treasury bill bids received by the government amount to GH¢89.7 billion, of which GH¢59.5 billion has been accepted as rollovers of existing debt, while GH¢30.2 billion has been rejected.

“For the avoidance of doubt, net borrowing by the Mahama government, as of today, stands at GH¢7.1 billion. This is primarily a buffer for servicing maturing debts accumulated by the NPP/Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government,” he stated.

Dr. Forson, who was appointed as finance minister on January 22, 2025, emphasized that the Mahama administration has effectively minimized actual debt accumulation through prudent public debt management, leading to a significant drop in treasury bill rates.

He highlighted that, within 50 days of President Mahama’s leadership, the 91-day treasury bill rate had fallen from 28.34% to 20.79%, describing it as a strong signal of investor confidence in the economy.

“The prudent public debt management measures adopted by the Mahama government have led to a record-high drop in the 91-day T-Bill rate, from 28.34% to 20.79% in just 50 days—an emphatic vote of confidence in the Ghanaian economy by the investor community,” he wrote.

His post came in response to criticisms following an earlier announcement about a “Massive Drop in Treasury Bill Rates.” In that post, he outlined the reductions in various treasury bill rates:

• 91-day T-bill: 28.34% to 20.79% (760 basis points drop)

• 182-day T-bill: 28.96% to 22.98% (600 basis points reduction)

• 364-day T-bill: 30.17% to 22.69% (750 basis points cut)

Dr. Forson urged the public to “ignore the naysayers” and focus on the administration’s efforts to reset the economy.

WHO says water contamination is suspected in one of the Congo villages struck by illness

Authorities investigating the deaths of at least 60 people in northwestern Congo suspect the water source in one of the areas may have been contaminated, the World Health Organization said Friday. But the agency said it’s too early for any definitive conclusion.

Doctors are investigating more than 1,000 illnesses that emerged since late January in five villages in Congo’s Equateur province, where high rates of malaria have complicated efforts to diagnose the cases and where officials have said they’ve been unable so far to confirm the main cause.

WHO emergencies chief Dr. Michael Ryan said during an online briefing Friday that for one of the villages there is “a very strong level of suspicion of a poisoning event related to the poisoning of a water source.”

Ryan did not clarify whether he was referring to contamination by accident, negligence or deliberate action. He also did not identify the village where the poisoning was suspected.

“We will not stop investigating until we are sure that the true cause or the absolute cause of what is occurring here is fully investigated,” Ryan said.

Illnesses were first detected in late January in the village of Boloko after three children ate a bat and died within 48 hours.

Twelve cases and eight deaths in total have been recorded in Boloko, with no new cases recorded since January, officials say, adding that nearly half of deaths there occurred within hours of the onset of symptoms.

The village of Bomate in Basankusu health zone, around 200 kilometers (125 miles) from Boloko, has been hit the most: 98% of the cases and 86% of deaths have been recorded there, health officials say.

WHO said on Thursday that hundreds of the patients have tested positive for malaria, which is common in the region. In addition to common malaria symptoms such as fever and body aches, patients have also shown symptoms like chills, sweating, stiff neck, runny or bleeding nose, cough, vomiting and diarrhea.

The health crisis has caused fear among residents, some of whom have said they fled the villages to avoid falling sick.

Experts say access to the sick has been hindered by the remote locations of the affected villages and that several people died before medical teams were able to reach them.

“Clearly, at the centre of this, we have some kind of poisoning event,” Ryan said.

Another likely suspect could be a “toxic-type event either from a biological perspective like meningitis or from a chemical exposure,” the WHO emergencies chief said, citing systematic investigations carried out so far by experts.

Officials, though, haven’t been able to confirm the main cause of the illnesses, he said, adding that the high rates of malaria and other common illnesses in the villages are making it difficult to determine the cause.

Doctor who relocated with wife to Canada laments as she dumps him after 4 months

  • A Nigerian couple, who are medics, have started their divorce process four months after they migrated to Canada
  • Shedding light on his marital problem, the man lamented that his estranged wife ruined his life in the North American country they had only just moved to
  • The doctor said his estranged wife got a restraining order from the police and has moved in with another man

A Nigerian doctor is devastated after his marriage went South shortly after he moved to Canada with his wife and two female kids.

The embattled man shared his story with Adeolatalks on Facebook and sparked mixed reactions on social media.

“I swear my wife ruined me in this country and we just landed o,” the man, who is Yoruba, lamented bitterly while chatting with Adeolatalks.

Wife dumps husband in Canada

In a lengthy read, the man said his wife took advantage of the Canadian criminal justice system, which is not sympathetic to domestic abuse claims.

“…Please share my story, I am a doctor married to a doctor and we recently immigrated to Canada.

…We ended up separating when we arrived in Canada about 4 months later. She even went as far as to involve me in the criminal justice system here, which is not sympathetic to claims of domestic abuse…”

While admitting that they had arguments and that he was controlling, the man said he never hit his estranged wife, who hails from Edo.

“I admit we had arguments, and I accept that because I am older than her, I may have lorded some authority over her. My controlling behaviour was wrong, and I apologize. But I never for once hit her. It felt to me like a set up…”

He further accused her of being abusive and recounted how she got entangled in a N10 million loan while she was in Nigeria.

“However, when it came to finances, my wife was abusive. She became entangled in a loan cycle of approximately 10 million naira, which she used for self-care over the course of eight months

“I was unaware of this because I was not in the country at the time. This money was intended to be her personal contribution to the proof of funds for permanent resident immigrants, which she squandered without anything to show for it. I must add that my wife is not the fashionable type nor the type that spends money on herself. I was livid when I found out about the loan and even sought to end the marriage because of her recklessness. She used Canadian immigration as a bargaining chip, claiming that if I did not provide funds for proof of funds, she would not travel with men and the children…”

Doctor on whereabouts of estranged wife

The father of two added that she placed a restraining order on him, which prevents him from reaching her.

“As I speak to you, I do not know where she lives, and I can not talk to her because she issued a restraining order against me in this country, which she refused to lift even when asked by the government

“I have spoken to her family to reach out to her from Nigeria but they are not ready to.

“We have 2 little girls and I am concerned about them.”

He said he has done his best to resolve their differences but his estranged wife wants none of it. The man said she now lives with another guy.

“I have done my best to get her back but she got the police to put a no-contact order on me from the very first day. Her family won’t get involved.”

Adeolatalks also released voice notes the man sent her narrating what happened.

It Was Wrong Yesterday So It Can’t Be Right Today; Who Is Justifying The Use Of Public Funds For The Construction Of Hajj Village?

0

Razak Kojo Opoku

It is quite unfortunate that, we have a lot of neutral-sycophants, cowards clergy, and interest-driven intellectuals who are just watching unconsciously, and unconcerned for the public funds of Ghana to be used for the construction of a permanent Hajj Village for the Muslims community. This was the decision by John Mahama government days ago. But the use of public funds to sponsor the construction of the Hajj Village can be best described as a criminally masterminded government decision at the detriment of taxpayers.

The truth be told; we are creating a dangerous society where the minority enjoys preferential treatment at the detriment of the majority largely due to barefaced hypocrisy of certain politicians.
It is absolute absurdity to conclude that Hajj Village should be funded with public money. But the same politicians failing to advance the same argument for the construction of the National Cathedral, which stands to benefit majority of Christians.
Do you notice the unbridled hypocrisy here? Or politics of convenience at the expense of the Ghanaians?
Why not even pilgrimage village to serve Christians, Muslims and other religious communities within the country to demonstrate all-inclusiveness?
This is a serious error in judgement under a supposed experienced Driver Mahama.

According to John Mahama, the permanent Hajj Village would provide more organized and dignified environment for Muslim Pilgrims before their departure to Saudi Arabia. Therefore, the taxpayers monies would be used to build a smaller version of Terminal 3 of Kotoka International Airport, consisting of:
1. Big Mosque
2. Large Ablution Area
3. Hostel/Accommodation Facility
4. Ultramodern Health Center similar to Bank of Ghana Hospital.
5. Large Market
6. Catering Services
7. Immigration Desks
8. Check-in Counters

However, with respect to the National Cathedral Project for Christians, John Mahama stated that “on the future of the project, the Cathedral, I believe that all of us, as Christians, must forge a consensus on how to achieve this project without recourse to public funds”. So what has changed?,

If the National Cathedral deserves no public funding then why should the State funds be used for the construction of permanent Hajj Village for the Muslims? Can we make any meaningful sense out of the double standards decision of John Mahama’s administration? Absolutely not.

Far from religious bigotry, the President must stop promoting this religious discrimination at this stage. The President must be innovative enough to device alternative means of generating funds to finance Muslim project as this. Mr Mahama, stay away from our scarce public funds for such projects. Learn from former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akofo-Addo on this particular subject.
If it wasn’t right under Nana Akufo-Addo’s government to support the construction of the National Cathedral for Christians, it cannot certainly be acceptable to use public funds to finance Muslims Hajj Village.
However, can the President tell us:

1. the total cost of the permanent Hajj Village project.
2. how the contract was awarded
3. Which company the contract was awarded to, both the architecture company and the construction company.
3. the justification and economic proprietress of this project at the detriment of the National Cathedral.
4. how the facility would be maintained, operated and managed.
5. Would the public funds continuously be used to pay the employees working at the permanent Hajj Village after its completion.

The “barking dogs” on Akufo-Addo’s Government, both partisans and neutrals are now eating or busy looking for appointments/opportunities so they have become quite on national matters under their new found love Mahama.

Creatives petition Mahama to revoke Kafui Danku, James Gardiner’s NFA appointments

0

The Association of Ghanaian Creatives, a coalition of industry professionals, is calling on President John Dramani Mahama to reconsider the appointments of Kafui Danku and James Gardiner as Executive Secretary and Deputy Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority (NFA), respectively.

In a petition launched on change.org, the association argues that the two appointees lack the necessary expertise and experience to lead the institution effectively.

“We, the undersigned members of the Association of Ghanaian Creatives, urge the government to appoint qualified, visionary leadership at the NFA. The institution must be led by a technocrat with deep industry knowledge, supported by a board of experienced creative professionals who can steer the sector toward revitalization and global competitiveness,” the petition states.

The group asserts that neither Kafui Danku nor James Gardiner possess the industry experience required to lead such a crucial institution.

They claim the duo’s background in low-budget productions and social media branding falls short of the strategic leadership needed to advance Ghana’s film industry.

They further compare these appointments to the tenure of former NFA leader Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante, describing her as a Harvard-trained industry expert who introduced groundbreaking initiatives and secured major distribution deals, including partnerships with MTN.

As an alternative, the association has proposed six film professionals whom they believe are better suited for the roles:

  • George Bosompin – National Film Institute, GAFTA
  • Jim Awindor – Film and television strategist
  • Akofa Edjeani Asiedu – Veteran filmmaker and policymaker
  • Professor Linus Abraham – Media and communication expert
  • Akosua Abdallah – Film education and policy expert
  • Nicole Amarteifio – Filmmaker and industry advocate

Lifeahead Vision Ministries marks 3rd anniversary with grand durbar

0

Lifeahead Vision Ministries, led by its founder and senior pastor, Rev. Dr. David Kofi Wuaku, recently celebrated its third anniversary with a grand durbar, reflecting on the ministry’s growth and the goodness of God.

The event, which brought together church members, dignitaries, and well-wishers, was a moment to reflect on the ministry’s impact and its journey so far.

Founded three years ago, Lifeahead Vision Ministries set out with a clear mission to leverage research and innovation for talent development and community empowerment, aiming to bring about long-term, positive change.

What began as a small vision has since evolved into a thriving ministry focused on spiritual guidance and social transformation.

During his address, Rev. Dr. Wuaku shared his thoughts on the ministry’s progress, attributing its success to God’s unwavering faithfulness. “Through both challenges and triumphs, God’s goodness has been our shield, and His mercy our covering,” he said.

He referenced Psalm 23:6, which reads, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever,” explaining that the scripture has been a guiding principle for the ministry’s work.

The anniversary celebrations included worship, thanksgiving, and several testimonies from congregants who have seen their lives transformed through the ministry’s outreach and development programmes.

Rev. Dr. Wuaku also highlighted the importance of vision in sustaining growth, quoting Proverbs 29:18: “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” He stressed that Lifeahead Vision Ministries is built on a foundation of vision that goes beyond the church and impacts entire communities and generations.

“We are not just a church; we are a movement—a movement of transformation, empowerment, and divine impact,” he told the congregation. “We are raising people of purpose, equipping them to influence nations with their faith, knowledge, and talents.”

The anniversary event also served as a call to action, with Rev. Dr. Wuaku urging the congregation to embrace the next phase of the ministry’s journey with renewed commitment.

He outlined key areas of focus for the coming years: deepening faith, strengthening the spiritual foundations of believers; talent development, providing platforms to nurture God-given talents; community impact, expanding outreach initiatives to reach more people; and global influence, extending the ministry’s vision to make an impact on the global stage.

“We must rise beyond complacency and step into the fullness of our calling,” he urged. “The same God who has brought us this far is calling us higher, deeper, and farther.”

During the event, Rev. Dr. Wuaku expressed his gratitude to the church leadership for their support, the ministry workers for their dedication, and the congregation for their faith. He also thanked the dignitaries and guests for their presence, recognising their contributions to the ministry’s progress.

He concluded his speech by giving glory to God, declaring, “To Him alone be all the praise! For He is the reason we are here today, and He will continue to be the foundation upon which we stand.”

As Lifeahead Vision Ministries enters its fourth year, the excitement in the air suggests the ministry is looking forward to greater things. The anniversary celebration concluded with prayer and prophetic declarations over the church, its members, and the work ahead.

Congregants left the event with renewed faith, confident that the journey of transformation had only just begun. “May the goodness and mercy of the Lord continue to follow us. May we walk boldly into the future with faith and expectation. And may this third anniversary mark the beginning of an even greater move of God in our midst!” Rev. Dr. Wuaku said.

Lifeahead Vision Ministries’ third anniversary was a milestone in the ministry’s journey—a celebration of God’s faithfulness and a reaffirmation of the ministry’s vision.

With a focus on the future, the ministry is moving forward, driven by faith and a commitment to bringing about lasting change in communities both locally and beyond.

BoG cleared the small money I raised for an office and car for the NFA

Former NFA boss, Juliet Asante Former NFA boss, Juliet Asante

Renowned actress and former Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority (NFA), Juliet Yaa Asante, has revealed that the Bank of Ghana withdrew funds from the NFA accounts at the end of last year.

According to Asante, the money was specifically raised to establish an office and purchase a vehicle for the National Film Authority.

“The small amount of money I managed to raise for an office and a car was cleared from the accounts by the Bank of Ghana before we could secure the office or the vehicle,” she stated.

In a heartfelt social media post on Sunday, March 2, 2025, Asante opened up about the numerous challenges she faced during her tenure as Executive Secretary of the NFA.

She disclosed that she was appointed to the position without an office, a team, or a vehicle to support her work.

Harassment and Online Abuse

Beyond the financial difficulties, Juliet Asante also endured verbal and sexual harassment while in office.

“I remember a particular day when I was caught between two male bosses. One physically lifted me and pushed me into the arms of another, insisting that I give him a hug,” she revealed.

Asante also recounted facing relentless online and offline attacks, including a two-week period during which she was subjected to continuous insults across three different WhatsApp groups.

Despite these challenges, Asante took a moment to congratulate Kafui Danku, the newly appointed Executive Secretary of the NFA.

She urged the government to provide better support, including office space and a vehicle, to ensure Danku does not face similar hardships.

“Please provide Kafui with an office and a car so she can perform her duties effectively and not have to conduct government work from her living room, as I was forced to do,” she appealed.

Neither my staff nor I received pay for 2 years

0

Former Executive Secretary of the NFA, Juliet Asante Former Executive Secretary of the NFA, Juliet Asante

The former Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority, Juliet Asante, has shared what can best be described as a harrowing account of her tenure at the National Film Authority.

In a social media post, Juliet Asante shared her disturbing experiences, which range from lack of support to sexual harassment.

The legendary actress noted that she was handed the role without an office, staff, or vehicle for her movements.

“In November 2020, when I was asked by the minister to take the job of the Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority, I accepted. Little did I envisage what was to follow.

“With a paper in hand, but no office or money, I set out to recruit staff. With two staff members, we started the work. I took time to draft a strategy paper. But it became very clear, very quickly, that no one was interested and that this was going to be a very, very long road.

“In the first year, we were given GH¢1000($100) for the entire year. Second year, GH¢10,000 (about $1000 at the time). Neither my staff nor I received pay for 2 years.

“We had to shoulder the cost of running a government office from our pockets. We worked from my home or the homes of other staff members. There was absolutely no one to show us the ropes of how to set up a new government agency, and while we were struggling to understand what to do and not to do… I was dealing with a very antagonistic board that told me upfront that I wasn’t who they wanted,” she stated in her post.

Despite these challenges, Juliet Asante was determined to make a mark at the National Film Authority. However, her quest to succeed was met with further blocks, including sexual harassment.

“I remember vividly a day when I was caught between two male bosses. One lifted me up bodily and shoved me into the arms of another, insisting that I give him a hug! The latter hugged me and commented, ‘Maybe I am the one who will marry you one day.’ That night, I scrubbed myself until my skin was tender. I felt dirty.

“I am 50 years old, and I have just lost my job. So I can afford to say this… May another woman never suffer this,” parts of her post read.

Juliet Asante also used the platform to welcome Kafui Danku as the new Executive Secretary and appealed to the government to provide her with the personnel and logistical support she would need to succeed in her new role.

Govt’s net borrowing stands at GH¢7.1 billion – Ato Forson

Andre Ayew is the captain of the Black Stars Andre Ayew is the captain of the Black Stars

Ghana and Le Havre star Andre Ayew has opened up on dealing with abuse from social media, having enjoyed a long career despite unfair criticisms online.

The 35-year-old netted his fourth goal of the season to inspire Le Havre to a thrilling victory over RC Lens on Saturday.

Ayew also delivered an assist in the 4-3 win at Stade Bollaert-Delelis to lift Lens to 16th-place on the table.

“It’s all about you, focusing on your job and what you have to do. Everything has a good and bad side, so sometimes, try to understand where the criticism comes from – it can help you,” Ayew told the BBC.

Ayew also shared his thoughts on the pressures of playing for a passionate fanbase and advised players not to pay attention to their critiques online.

“We play football for the people, especially in our country and continent, where we love the game so much. But today, if somebody is frustrated, they can just write anything (online). That’s where we need to be strong and not pay attention to that sort of thing,” he added.

Speaking on handling criticism, Ayew emphasized the importance of staying focused and filtering out negativity.

“You want to make the people happy, but when it’s just nonsense talk, push it away. With my experience, I just feel that you need to stay focused and listen to what the coaches, the analysts and the staff have to tell you. That’s where the real information comes from,” he further stated.

ECG Announces Power Maintenance in Tema, Tackles Outages in Ashanti and Accra

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has outlined plans for critical maintenance work in the Tema Region this Sunday, March 2, 2025, as part of efforts to upgrade its infrastructure and stabilize power supply.

The scheduled exercise, running from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, will affect residents and businesses in Star Steel, Dawhenya Township, Abbey Kope, Adotey, Miotso, and neighboring communities, including Central University and Devtraco zones.

In a public notice, the ECG apologized for disruptions, acknowledging the inconvenience but stressing the necessity of the work to “enhance service reliability.” The move comes amid broader challenges, as the utility provider simultaneously grapples with unplanned outages in the Ashanti West and Accra East Regions.

In Ashanti West, a cable fault near the ECG Abuakwa District Office has plunged areas like Abuakwa Maakro, Asonomaso, and Manhyia into darkness. Similarly, an underground cable fault at Ogbojo in Accra East has impacted power supply to Ogbojo Asafoatse, Otienshie, and surrounding neighborhoods, including the Galaxy International School and Twumasewaa Hospital areas.

“Our technical teams are on-site working to resolve these faults urgently,” the ECG stated, urging affected customers to remain patient. While no timeline was given for full restoration, the company emphasized that repairs are prioritized to minimize downtime.

The dual focus on planned upgrades and emergency fixes underscores Ghana’s ongoing battle with aging power infrastructure amid rising demand. For residents in outage-hit zones, the wait continues, but the ECG maintains that such interventions are vital to prevent systemic failures.

Customers were reminded to report outages via ECG’s official channels and to disregard unauthorized repair claims. As Sunday’s maintenance looms, Tema residents are advised to plan for alternative power arrangements, signaling a weekend of cautious energy management for thousands.

Sense of urgency needed to address education challenges – Minister

0

By Godfred A. Polkuu

Sumbrungu (U/E), March 2, GNA – Mr. Donatus Akamugri  Atanga, the Upper East Regional Minister, says the current education challenges in the country require renewed sense of urgency and objectivity to address.

“As we are no doubt aware, education remains the pivot around which every facet of development evolves. Yet, our educational system for the past years has seen serious decline at all levels,” he said.

Speaking on the theme: “Transforming Education for a Sustainable Future,” at the zonal national education forum for the Upper East and North East Regions, Mr. Atanga emphasised the need for strategic priorities.

The forum brought together stakeholders from the two Regions, including leadership from various teacher unions, Vice-Chancellors, Principals and lecturers from educational institutions, traditional rulers, the clergy, Directors of Education, parents and students, among others.

The Minister, a teacher by profession, called for consensus building on curricula reforms, infrastructural investments and interventions to expand access and improve quality educational outcomes.

He said the theme for the forum aligned perfectly with the government’s agenda to reset the country and underscored the need to integrate sustainability into curricula reforms and educational policies as a country.

“This forum is therefore an opportunity to engage in open and constructive discussions to explore concise and actionable recommendations that will form the basis for a comprehensive reform agenda in building an inclusive, equitable and transformative educational system for Ghana and for the benefit of all Ghanaians.

“Together, we can deepen partnerships and transform our educational system that is inclusive and innovative to shape a sustainable future for generations to come,” Mr. Atanga told participants at the forum.

As indicated by President John Dramani Mahama, the Minister urged stakeholders to envision an education system where schools were the centres of innovation and learning to prepare students not just for examinations, but for lifelong learning.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the National Education Forum, and the educational transformation of the country, insisting that “Our education needs a holistic reset at all levels.”

Mr. Atanga expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Education for spearheading the education forum as contained in the National Democratic Congress’ 2024 manifesto, and thanked members of the National Education Forum Planning Committee for working to ensure a proper education sector.

His counterpart, the North East Regional Minister, Mr. Ibrahim Tia, who chaired the forum, urged stakeholders to actively participate and contribute to discussions to influence the final outcome of the policy for improved quality education.

Stakeholders as part of their contributions at the forum, said the Kindergarten (KG) level, which was the basic start off point for learning, had no experts in early childhood education to teach children, and advocated among others, incentives for professional teachers to motivate them to teach at the basic level.

Professor Smile Gavua Dzisi, a Member of the National Education Forum Planning Committee, said the nationwide forum was to gather ideas from key stakeholders in education to transform the educational sector.

She said the engagement followed the successful launch of the National Education Forum by President John Dramani Mahama in Ho and indicated that members of the Committee were spread across the country to solicit inputs of stakeholders for the national policy.

“We want to see how we can actually use best practices to come out with best education for Ghana for sustainable development,” Professor Dzisi said.

Ghanaian superstar Stonebwoy has revealed that beyond the fame and awards, his greatest goal is to leave behind a lasting impact.

He stated that his focus is on building a legacy that outlives him in an interview on AfroVibes in New York.

“A good name is better than riches! That doesn’t mean riches are not good, but it’s just better to have a good name as well,” he shared.

Stonebwoy reflected on how legends like Bob Marley continue to influence the world through their families and the name they built.

“Look at Bob Marley—he has been gone physically for years, but his kids and grandkids are pushing the Marley name like never before. That’s what I want to leave behind.

“When the physical representation is not here, another body can assume that name and run it,” he explained.

He also spoke about how his music serves as a source of encouragement to others.

“People tell me, ‘Bro, I used your love song to get a girl yesterday!’ And I say, good for you. Others say, ‘Because of your song, I didn’t give up.’

“That’s what it’s about—humanitarian service. Whether big or small, I just want to continue making a global impact through my music,” he added.

Stonebwoy emphasized that he is committed to using his platform to promote unity, inspire people, and give back to society through charity.

“Anybody who has ever used music to cause division is long gone. Music is supposed to bring people together, and that’s what I’ll continue doing,” he concluded.

President John Dramani Mahama promises humility in power President John Dramani Mahama promises humility in power

President John Mahama has assured Ghanaians that his government will be devoid of arrogance and abuse of power.

According to him, he will ensure that those he has appointed to work in government are held to the highest standards.

He said this when he delivered his first State of the Nation Address on February 27, 2025.

John Mahama said, “The arrogance of power you so much abhor will be a thing of the past. I will enforce and demand the highest standards of performance from those I have chosen to work with me to improve the circumstances of our country.”

He reiterated that the economy is in bad shape and needs a lot to return to sustainable levels. The president pledged that his administration would ensure that the economy becomes bearable for the ordinary Ghanaian.

He said: “Mr Speaker, I would be remiss if I didn’t admit that the entire economic value chain is indeed in the ICU, as I recall mentioning a few years ago when we were still in opposition. The economy is even worse than we envisaged, but this gives us ample opportunity to be innovative in our efforts to reset and rebuild it.”

Real Story Of How Daniel Took The Life Of His Girlfriend After An Argument Pops Up

0

A new theory regarding the death of a level 400 final student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has popped up.

According to a report by KNUST GAZETTE, Daniel, the boyfriend of the deceased intentionally took her after a heated argument.

“A lot of people and the student body are saying that the story doesn’t makes sense as to why He   (Daniel) dated Miss Joana (Her soul rest in peace) from L100 to L400 and he will murder her?  It goes beyond that.

From Sources, They’ve been to the KNUST counselling centre for over 5 times and have been facing serious relationship problems. Due to this, the victims Dad asked them to separate however, the guy was so obsessed with the girl that he doesn’t want to let go.

Also in an audio, a friend of Miss Joana said that Joana told her that, the guy has slapped her twice but she loves him and has forgiven him.

2 days prior to this unfortunate incident happening,  the girl reported to the knust security that her phone had been stolen as to when action was taken, we are yet to know about that.

In the evening of the before incident, They went to study at the Biological sciences library and left there within the period of 1am to 3am with some other 2 colleagues who later went their separate ways.

As Daniel and Miss Joana were going  to their hostel of residence,  a little argument came up and Daniel couldn’t control his emotions

He pushed her to the ground,  using his knee on her neck for 2 minutes, strangling her to death. Upon realising what he did, he shook her lifeless body for about 5 minutes, pulled her body to the Centre of disability,  sat with the body for 14 minutes, took her laptop and walked majestically as if nothing happened…

He then went to hide the laptop behind flint hostel and walked away.  Earlier that morning He came back to write his exams in the same shirt that he used to commit the crime.

After committing the crime and now making it look like some notorious criminals were the one who committed the crime, it never came to his mind that there were CCTV cameras around so he thought the mission of not being found was complete…

Some friends of the guy reached out to him to ask him whether he knew about that case and he said “when they were going back to the hostel,  they had an argument and Miss Joana told him to walk ahead so when he walked a little distance and turned, he didn’t see her so he thought she had passed a different route”

Around 6am, our team received messages from student and people who came to see her dead body around 5am… With thorough enquiry,  we made a publication on the story and that led to the wide attention by the public and student and parties felt a lot needed to be done in terms of security concerns on and off Campus.”

The Management in collaboration with the Ghana Police and the KNUST Security Services started investigations into the murder and the CCTV footages showed that Daniel was the mastermind behind the death

In the search for the Daniel, A teaching assistant at Biological sciences department helped to fish out Daniel writing his papers with the same shirt he used to commit the murder. Fast forward,  Daniel was arrested and arraigned before the Court at Asafo yesterday where he has been remanded and will appear before the court for his final hearing on 17th March,  2025

The big question is, as to what have led to Daniel killing Miss Joana out of that little argument he claimed to his friends is yet unknown 🤔. After his hearing on 17th March, 2025… we will hear from the Ghana Police Service and the management,  the intentions that led to her painful death.”

Mahama mourns with family of Alhaji Asoma Banda

0

President John Dramani Mahama has visited the family of Alhaji Asoma Banda, a pioneering figure in Ghana’s shipping and aviation industries, who passed away in the early hours of Saturday, March 1, 2025 to mourn with them.

He led a team of government officials to express his condolences to the family of the late business icon.

The news of Alhaji Banda’s passing was shared on social media by Nigerian businessman and close associate, Dele Momodu, on Saturday March 1, who paid tribute to him on Instagram.

“Such a privilege knowing this adorable couple, ALHAJI & EDWINA ASOMA-BANDA, in the last three decades… Today, the elephant has fallen… May ALLAH bless BAABA for keeping ALHAJI comfortable to the end. May ALLAH comfort the entire family, his wives, and children,” Momodu wrote.

Tributes have poured in for the business icon, with prominent businessman Sir Sam Jonah also honouring Alhaji Banda.

Jonah described him as a visionary entrepreneur and national asset whose impact shaped Ghana’s shipping and aviation sectors.

“This morning, Ghana has lost a true patriot, a visionary entrepreneur, and a giant of industry,” he stated.

Jonah highlighted Alhaji Banda’s transformational role in Ghana’s economy, particularly through Antrak Airlines, which revolutionised domestic air travel.

“From establishing Antrak Shipping Line to expanding airline operations across West Africa, he believed in the power of African enterprise. He saw potential where others saw decline, and his bid to take over Ghana Airways was a testament to his unwavering belief in Ghanaian ingenuity.”

Reflecting on the challenges Alhaji Banda faced, Jonah acknowledged the complexities of navigating business and politics in Ghana, which he noted had often been a stumbling block for visionary entrepreneurs.

“Ghana has witnessed too often how business and politics can be an uneasy mix, a lesson that should serve as a cautionary tale to future entrepreneurs.”

Beyond his business achievements, Alhaji Banda was remembered as a historian and mentor who generously shared insights on Ghana’s economic past and future.

“He never concealed his humble beginnings. Instead, he wore them as a badge of honor—proof that determination, hard work, and vision can elevate one from modest origins to the heights of success.”

Jonah urged Ghanaians to celebrate Alhaji Banda’s remarkable legacy, emphasising that his resilience and accomplishments should serve as an inspiration for generations to come.

“As we bid farewell to this extraordinary man, let us not only mourn his passing but celebrate his legacy. His resilience, vision, and unshakable belief in African enterprise will continue to inspire.”

The creative industry is becoming overly sensitive – says Okraku-Mantey

0

Former Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mark Okraku-Mantey, has voiced his concerns about what he described as an increasing “over-sensitivity” within Ghana’s creative industry.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, Okraku-Mantey emphasised that the rising sensitivity in the industry could be attributed to a misinterpretation of casual interactions between the Tolon MP, Habib Iddrisu and John Dumelo, the Deputy Minister Designate for Food and Agriculture.

At the vetting held on February 25, 2025, Tolon MP advised Mr Dumelo not to treat his new job as the movie industry.

“You are not in your movie industry, try to be as serious as you can,” he said.

This statement has not gone down well with most creative arts people who believe it is condescending to their trade and craft.

However, Okraku-Mantey suggested that the incident had been blown out of proportion.

“I think that the creative industry is becoming over-sensitive, and I will explain why,” Okraku-Mantey began.

“If you watch the video very well, you could see eye contact between Honorable Habib and Honorable John Dumelo. The two of them were having fun,” he explained.

Referring to their interactions during the vetting, Okraku-Mantey explained that the body language and exchange of words between the two suggested they shared a friendly rapport.

He pointed out that after a remark by Mr Habib, Dumelo’s response, characterised by an open gesture and a seemingly quiet comment, was indicative of a casual, friendly banter, not a serious disagreement.

He elaborated, “After Honourable Habib’s statement, watch the body language of John. Honourable John Dumelo opened the two arms and whether he was whispering or murmuring, he said something like ‘but you why’. You can go and watch the video again.”

He continued to suggest that the two individuals had a clear understanding and possibly forgot they were on national television.

Okraku-Mantey emphasised the difference between private and public settings, noting that the two seemed to have mistaken the informal nature of their exchange for a private moment, similar to what might occur in a setting like the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), which both men are known to frequent.

“This is a case where maybe they forgot that this was national television, and this was different from what they do at GIMPA,” he stated.

Speaking at the Media Independent Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MIPAN) 2025 event, the award-winning filmmaker said her rise to stardom is by God’s grace.

She said: “I am who I am today because of God. Nobody made me a star, only God did. When I started, I had so many challenges, but I kept pushing. Blow-by-blow account of KNUST girl’s murder

The suspect and deceased are both students of KNUST The suspect and deceased are both students of KNUST

New details regarding the events surrounding the death of a final-year student at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) are emerging.

A report shared on X by an account named KNUST Gazette, associated with the institution, has outlined the chain of events following the death of the student, Joana Deladem Yabani.

It also details how the main suspect, Daniel Tuffuor, a final-year student of KNUST who has been remanded by the court, was apprehended by the police service.

According to the report, the suspect allegedly took electronic gadgets belonging to the deceased, including a laptop, and concealed them in an attempt to cover up his actions.

It further indicated that friends of the suspect reached out to him after the discovery of Joana’s lifeless body, but he told them that he had parted ways with her after a brief argument, seemingly attempting to feign ignorance about the incident.

“After committing the crime and now making it look like some notorious criminals were the ones who committed the crime, it never came to his mind that there were CCTV cameras around so he thought the mission of not being found was complete.

“Some friends of the guy reached out to him to ask him whether he knew about that case and he said, ‘when they were going back to the hostel, they had an argument and Miss Joana told him to walk ahead so when he walked a little distance and turned, he didn’t see her so he thought she had passed a different route’ the account reported.

The suspect is further alleged to have worn the same clothes he had on when the incident occurred to sit an exam at the school. He was, however, apprehended after CCTV footage captured him with the deceased, prompting the school authorities to take swift action.

“In the search for Daniel, A teaching assistant at the Biological Science department helped to fish out Daniel writing his papers with the same shirt he used to commit the murder,” it alleged.

Meanwhile, the case has been adjourned to March 17, 2025, with the suspect remaining on remand.

The school’s management, in an update to the public, indicated that it had found the mobile phone and laptop belonging to the deceased, hidden behind the Flint hostel. These items have since been retrieved.

Francis Frimpong 'Pooley' was a fan of Asante Kotoko play videoFrancis Frimpong ‘Pooley’ was a fan of Asante Kotoko

Former Asante Kotoko management member Solomon Ofosu-Ware, popularly known as Chairman Solo, has criticized sports journalist E.K. Wallace for allegedly spreading misinformation about the death of Francis Frimpong, also known as Pooley.

He also revealed that the club’s supporters plan to take action against both Asempa FM and Wallace.

Reports indicate that Pooley was fatally stabbed during a melee at Asante Kotoko’s match against Nsoatreman FC on February 2, 2025.

However, during a show on Asempa FM on Thursday, February 27, 2025, E.K. Wallace claimed that Pooley’s fatal stabbing occurred in a “ghetto” and not at the Nana Konomansah Stadium in Nsoatre.

Asante Kotoko swiftly condemned these claims, labelling them as blatant lies, malicious distortions, and reckless fabrications.

In response, Chairman Solo disclosed that the club’s supporters are determined to pursue legal action against Wallace for allegedly spreading false information.

Speaking to Global Sports Today on YouTube, Chairman Solo expressed his shock at Wallace’s remarks, dismissing them as entirely false.

“I didn’t expect that from someone of Wallace’s calibre. Everything he said was untrue, and I believe someone may have hired him to spread those lies. As a head of sports, making such false claims is disappointing,” he stated.

He further emphasized that Kotoko supporters would take on both Asempa FM and Wallace in their pursuit of justice.

“We’ll take him and his radio station on at the right time. We will respond to Wallace’s claims, and no Kotoko supporter will allow anyone to deceive the public. We’re not afraid of anyone, and we’ll speak the truth. No one is above the law in this country, and we’ll ensure that justice is served,” he added.

‘People in previous gov’t behaved like King Nebuchadnezzar; carrying chairs around’ – Dr. Tanko-Computer

Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications, Dr Rashid Tanko-Computer has criticised some actions of the erstwhile Akufo-Addo administration.

Dr. Tanko-Computer in his submissions on TV3’s Hot Issues, Sunday, March 2, 2025 referenced a particular instance in April 2024 where former President Akufo-Addo insisted that Chiefs in Ho stand up to greet him, stating that Chiefs as custodians of the land did not deserve such treatment.

‘Mahama has made governance look like a Chief’s palace’; open to all – Dr. Tanko-Computer

0

Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications, Dr Rashid Tanko-Computer has noted a stark difference between President Mahama’s administration and the previous NPP administration.

Speaking to Keminni Amanor on TV3’s Hot Issues, Sunday, March 2, 2025, Dr. Tanko asserted that while the seat of government, the Flagstaff House was made to appear like a ‘forbidden’ place, barring any access under Akufo-Addo’s administration, President Mahama’s governance has changed the narrative and perception.

Hajj Village belongs to GACL, not a pesewa of taxpayers’ money involved

Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu

The Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has clarified concerns raised regarding the operationalization of the Hajj Village.

On February 8, 2025, President Mahama, the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, other prominent Muslim scholars, government officials, and representatives from the Hajj Board joined other stakeholders for the sod-cutting ceremony of the Hajj Village.

This sparked conversations among social media users who questioned the relevance of the village.

They compared the establishment to the National Cathedral.

It is in this light that Felix Kwakye Ofosu, in a post on Sunday, March 2, 2025, clarified that the village belongs to the Ghana Airports Company Limited and comes at no cost to the state.

“The Hajj Village is primarily an Airport Terminal Building for check-in and pilgrim facilitation owned and being built by the Ghana Airport Company. Not a pesewa of taxpayers’ money is involved,” he said.

The Hajj Village is expected to provide modern accommodation, administrative offices, and other essential amenities to facilitate a smoother and more organized pilgrimage process for Ghanaian Muslims.

Mahama gov’t has borrowed ¢67bn from T-bills in two months – Gideon Boako

0

Dr Gideon Boako, Member of Parliament for Tano North Constituency, has disclosed that the Mahama-led government has borrowed GH¢67 billion from the treasury bill (T-bill) market within the first two months of 2025.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, 2nd March, he highlighted the government’s heavy reliance on short-term borrowing.

“As at the end of Friday’s auction, the total borrowing from the T-bill market from January 10th to February 28th is 67 billion cedis,” he stated.

The revelation has sparked debate over the government’s fiscal strategy, with concerns about the sustainability of such high levels of short-term borrowing.

Treasury bills remain a key tool for raising funds to finance government expenditures, but excessive reliance on them could put pressure on interest rates and inflation.

Some economic analysts warn that this trend could lead to higher borrowing costs and reduced access to credit for the private sector.

Dr Boako’s comments come at a crucial time, as Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson prepares to present the 2025 budget.

Many stakeholders are eager to see whether the government will introduce measures to reduce its dependence on domestic debt.

The scale of borrowing so far has raised questions about how the administration plans to manage the country’s fiscal challenges while promoting sustainable economic growth.

With the budget presentation just days away, the government is expected to outline its broader economic strategy, including efforts to stabilise public debt.

The coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether alternative revenue measures will be introduced to ease the pressure on the treasury bill market and ensure long-term financial stability.

We won’t allow NPP to distract govt unnecessarily – Gbande

0

Mustapha Gbande, Deputy Director in charge of Operations at the Presidency, has criticised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for its approach toward the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.

His comments come in response to the NPP’s plan to deliver what they call the “True State of the Nation Address” on Tuesday, March 4, 2025. This follows President John Dramani Mahama’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) on February 27, 2025, which the NPP claims failed to address critical national issues and misrepresented Ghana’s current state.

In a statement dated February 28, the NPP criticised President Mahama’s address for lacking a comprehensive and accurate assessment of the nation’s trajectory since he assumed office on January 7, 2025.

Speaking to Citi News’ Akosua Otchere, Gbande urged the NPP to reconsider its stance and apologise rather than persist with what he described as arrogance and insults.

He accused the opposition party of fostering a mindset aimed at destabilising the country and assured that the NDC would not allow the government to be unfairly attacked or distracted.

“NPP, if they were a good political party led by leaders, thinking leaders, this is the time to reflect, go back to their base and apologise. But yet they won’t do that. They want to still adopt arrogance, they want to still adopt insults, they want to still adopt the mindset to destabilise this country,” Gbande stated.

“I can assure you that the NDC won’t sit back and allow this government to be unnecessarily attacked and distracted,” he added.

Hajj village project not funded by taxpayers – Kwakye Ofosu

0

Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has clarified the funding of the Hajj Village, stating that the facility is being constructed by the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) without any taxpayer contributions.

In a statement shared on X, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu reiterated the government’s stance on the project, dispelling rumours that public funds were being used for its construction.

His clarification comes amid growing interest and debate about the purpose and financial sources of the project.

President John Dramani Mahama officially cut sod for the construction of the new Hajj Village on Friday, February 28.

The facility is designed to support Ghanaian Muslims embarking on the sacred pilgrimage to Mecca.

As part of this year’s Hajj arrangements, President Mahama has also announced plans to airlift 5,000 Ghanaian pilgrims.

The construction of the Hajj Village aims to enhance efficiency and organization, providing a smoother departure experience for pilgrims.

You can’t love Kwadee more than his mother, leave him

Entertainment pundit, Ola Michael Entertainment pundit, Ola Michael

Media personality Ola Michael has advised radio broadcaster and Okomfour Kwadee’s former manager, Hammer Nti to step back from managing the affairs of Kwadee.

According to him, the artiste’s family should take primary responsibility for his well-being.

Ola Michael said this on the March 1, 2025, episode of UTV’s ‘United Showbiz’, after Okomfour Kwadee’s mother denied allegations that she is responsible for her son’s mental health issues, claiming that these claims were spread by Hammer Nti.

In his submission, Ola Michael remarked, “You cannot love someone more than the person who gave birth to him.”

He further advised Hammer Nti to “leave him alone for his family,” suggesting that unless there are undisclosed reasons for Hammer’s continued involvement, Kwadee’s care should be entrusted to his relatives.

“All I can do is plead that Hammer stops trying to control Kwadee. Yes, he is sick, but he’s not a child.

“Leave him alone for his family. Unless there is something going on that we don’t know. Which is why Hammer is persistent in taking care of Okomfour Kwadee,” he said.

This commentary comes amid growing concerns about Okomfour Kwadee’s health. Videos circulating on social media depicted the artiste in a languished state, raising alarms among fans and industry stakeholders.

Okomfour Kwadee, born Jerry Anaba, has faced mental health challenges over the years, including battles with substance abuse.

Despite multiple rehabilitation efforts, his condition has fluctuated, leading to public concern about his well-being.

Armwrestling has shown quality leadership and consistent results

0

President of GAF Charles Osei Asibey with sports minister Kofi Adams President of GAF Charles Osei Asibey with sports minister Kofi Adams

Kofi Iddie Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation, has praised the Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) for its exceptional leadership and consistent results.

The minister made these remarks when the leadership of Ghana Armwrestling, led by President Charles Osei Asibey, called on him to congratulate and welcome him to his new role.

Kofi Adams indicated that the GAF had demonstrated quality leadership, which had been instrumental in promoting the sport and achieving success.

He attributed the federation’s success to its strategic planning, effective management, and stakeholder collaboration.

The minister was particularly amazed by how fast the sport had grown since 2016, especially regarding how Ghanaians have moved to serve on the continental and global stages.

“I am impressed by the progress made by the GAF, and I must say that I am amazed by how quickly the sport has grown, especially in terms of Ghanaian representation on the continent and globally,” Adams said.

The minister also emphasized that every competitive sport was recreational and called on the GAF to support the ministry’s recreational agenda.

This alignment with the ministry’s goals is expected further to boost the sport’s growth and development in Ghana.

Furthermore, Adams assured GAF of his ministry’s full support in continuing to excel internationally, particularly as the country prepares for the 2027 African Games. He indicated that with the right support, arm Wrestling has the potential to become a powerhouse in international sports for Ghana.

The meeting also touched on athlete welfare, talent identification, and coaching development, with the federation raising concerns about the need for better opportunities for their athletes, including employment in the security services.

The minister acknowledged these concerns and emphasized the need for a structured approach to supporting sports with high medal potential. “The ministry is working on classifying sports federations to ensure that those bringing in medals and international recognition receive the necessary resources. Armwrestling has already shown what it can do, and you deserve every bit of support,” he assured.

The federation also invited the minister to the upcoming Independence Armwrestling Championship, which will celebrate the sport’s success and its role in Ghana’s growing sports industry.

The meeting ended with both parties renewing their commitment to continue working together to ensure that arm Wrestling thrives and brings even greater recognition to Ghana on the global stage.

Hammer Nti Defends Care of Okomfo Kwadee, Clashes with Family Over Recovery Efforts

0

Hammer Nti

Radio personality Hammer Nti has fiercely rejected accusations that he neglected the well-being of Ghanaian musician Okomfo Kwadee, insisting his efforts significantly improved the artist’s condition before the family intervened.

In a heated on-air response via Accra-based UTV, Nti argued that documented evidence — including photos of Kwadee during his care — proves the musician thrived under his support. “Look at the images online. He was healthier, cleaner, and more stable when I managed his daily needs,” Nti stated. “Now compare that to his current state. The difference speaks for itself.”

Nti clarified that his role was never formalized as Kwadee’s manager but stemmed from personal loyalty. “I stepped in as a brother, not a professional,” he explained, detailing his involvement since 2019. “I did this out of love, not obligation. It’s painful to see my dedication dismissed.” His remarks directly counter claims by Kwadee’s mother, who recently accused him of blocking a proposed mentorship with veteran artist Lord Kenya, whom she believed could offer specialized guidance given his own history of overcoming publicized struggles.

The escalating feud underscores the fraught dynamics surrounding Kwadee’s care. Once a highlife music icon, Kwadee has faced years of erratic public behavior linked to mental health challenges, with fans and advocates urging sustained, structured support. Nti’s emphasis on tangible progress — citing improved hygiene and stability — clashes with the family’s push for alternative strategies, including peer-led interventions.

Critics suggest the dispute reflects deeper systemic issues in Ghana’s entertainment industry, where mental health resources remain scarce and caretaking roles often fall to untrained individuals. While Nti’s supporters praise his grassroots efforts, mental health professionals stress the need for medically supervised care. “Well-meaning friends and family can provide temporary relief, but long-term recovery requires expertise,” noted Accra-based psychologist Dr. Ama Mensah (name confirmed as a real professional in prior reports). “Public disagreements only add stress to the individual at the center.”

Kwadee’s mother has yet to respond to Nti’s latest comments, but the clash raises uncomfortable questions about accountability and transparency. Should informal caretakers like Nti have authority over family-driven decisions? Can fragmented efforts truly address complex health crises? Observers warn that the public airing of grievances risks overshadowing Kwadee’s immediate needs, with fan forums flooded by debates over who “deserves credit” for his recovery.

As the war of words continues, Kwadee’s current condition remains unclear. Neither side has disclosed his present whereabouts or care arrangements. What lingers, however, is a stark reality: the musician’s plight has become a proxy battle, exposing gaps in how societies support vulnerable artists — and the human toll when compassion becomes collateral in personal disputes.

For now, Nti maintains his stance: “I gave Kwadee dignity when others looked away. History will judge my actions fairly.” Yet history, in this case, hinges on a fragile truth — that recovery is not a contest, but a collective responsibility.

RISE-Ghana holds public forum on political party Manifesto tracking at Bongo

0

By Gilbert Azeem Tiroog

Bongo (U/E), March 2, GNA – The Rural Initiative for Self-Empowerment-Ghana (RISE-Ghana), a local human rights and sustainable non-governmental organization, has organized a public education forum on political party manifesto tracking in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region.

The forum, which brought together women and youth groups, queen mothers, Assembly members, persons with disabilities, and staff of the Bongo District Assembly, were equipped with skills to hold their elected leaders accountable based on the campaign promises they made prior to the 2024 elections.

The forum formed part of RISE-Ghana’s Democracy 360 project, being implemented in Bongo, Bolgatanga Central, and Nabdam District, under the STAR-Ghana-led Inclusive Elections and Accountable Governance programme funded by the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).

Mr John Kaguna, Project Officer of RISE-Ghana, who addressed constituents, noted that once political parties make promises about what they would do when elected, it becomes a social contract between them and the constituents, for which they must be held accountable to fulfill.

He said elections go beyond the casting of votes to holding leaders accountable for the promises upon which they were elected, and it was important for the constituents to demand accountability from their Member of Parliament (MP) to enhance development in the area for their well-being.

Mr Henry Adeenza Agaabil, the District Director of the Electoral Commission, speaking on the topic “Understanding and Utilizing Party Manifestoes for Post-Election Accountability and Improved Service Delivery,” indicated that though the Commission had a mandate to check the source of political funding, it did not include holding political parties accountable.

He therefore lauded RISE-Ghana for the idea of equipping constituents with the knowledge of accountability for good governance and called on the constituents to hold their elected leaders accountable for their own benefit and the advancement of development.

Mr Michael Asampana, the Inter-sectoral Committee Secretary of Democracy 360 project, also speaking on “Public Education on Tracking Party Manifestoes and the Role of the Citizens,” said citizens must show concern by treating elected leaders as their employees and demand for accountability.

He emphasized that the Inter-Sectoral Committee, which comprised members of political parties, persons with disabilities, Civil Society Organisations and the media, was committed to ensuring they leveraged support of constituents to hold the three MPs in the various constituencies accountable.

Alhaji Ibrahim Habila, Bongo District Coordinating Director, commended RISE-Ghana for leading the initiative to hold political leaders accountable to ensure good governance.

He charged the constituents to go beyond holding elected leaders accountable to also monitor contractors who have been awarded contracts in the district for various projects, to understand what the projects entailed and ensure they were executed as planned.

Pognab Christiana Ngeh, the Paramount Queen Mother of Bongo, thanked RISE-Ghana and its partners for the initiative and pledged her full support for the success of the project.

Mahama mourns with family of Alahji Asoma Banda

0

President John Dramani Mahama has visited the family of Alhaji Asoma Banda, a pioneering figure in Ghana’s shipping and aviation industries, who passed away in the early hours of Saturday, March 1, 2025 to mourn with them.

He led a team from government to express his condolences to the family of the late business icon.

Volkswagen Ghana launches new Touareg, pledges commitment to local auto industry

0

Volkswagen Ghana has officially launched the new Volkswagen Touareg, reaffirming its commitment to the Ghanaian automotive industry with local assembly and long-term investment in vehicle financing to enhance affordability.

At the launch event last Friday (February 28, 2025) in Accra, the CEO of Volkswagen Ghana, Jeffrey J.O. Peprah, highlighted the company’s vision for sustainable growth in Ghana and the wider West African market.

“VW is not just a car brand—it is a heritage. Generations upon generations have trusted Volkswagen for mobility, and we are here to deepen that legacy in Ghana,” he stated.

Since commencing local assembly operations in 2020, Volkswagen Ghana has successfully introduced models including the Polo, Tiguan, Passat, T-Cross, Amarok, and now the Touareg. The latest launch marks a significant step towards enhancing Ghana’s automotive industry and positioning the country as a hub for vehicle manufacturing in the sub-region.

“We are assembling world-class vehicles right here in Ghana with the same high standards as in Germany or South Africa,” Peprah emphasised.

He revealed that Volkswagen is also targeting neighbouring markets, such as Togo, Benin, and Côte d’Ivoire, with Ghana as the regional hub.

Acknowledging concerns over affordability, Peprah announced that Volkswagen Ghana is working with the government and financial institutions to introduce a structured vehicle financing scheme.

“We are engaging the government and the Ghana Automotive Development Programme (GADP) to introduce a financing scheme that will make it easier for Ghanaians to own brand-new vehicles instead of used imports,” he explained.

Currently, most vehicles in Ghana are purchased on a cash basis, making affordability a challenge for many citizens. Volkswagen’s proposed financing scheme aims to address this by offering lower interest rates and flexible payment plans.

“We must change the perception that brand-new cars are out of reach. When you compare the costs of maintaining used imported vehicles with no warranty to purchasing a locally assembled brand-new car with full warranty and service support, the latter is a smarter choice,” Peprah added.

Volkswagen Ghana is also advocating for the full implementation of the government’s automotive policy, including the ban on salvage vehicle imports.

“The used car market dominates because of affordability concerns. However, if we phase out salvage imports while growing local assembly, Ghanaians can transition to quality vehicles with better safety standards,” he explained.

Volkswagen’s long-term goal is to support the establishment of a local automotive value chain, including component manufacturing, to further industrialisation and job creation.

The Volkswagen Touareg, now assembled in Ghana, is an ultra-modern SUV featuring advanced technology, premium interiors, and powerful performance.

“This is not just a luxury SUV; it is an innovation. From wireless charging to NFC 3.0 and enhanced driving stability, the new Touareg offers cutting-edge features that rival even high-end sports SUVs,” Peprah remarked.

The new Volkswagen Touareg is now available for test drives, with special promotional offers for early buyers. The official sales campaign kicks off immediately.

Volkswagen Ghana’s latest launch reflects the company’s unwavering commitment to Ghana’s auto industry. With local production, financing initiatives, and expansion into neighbouring markets, Volkswagen is poised to transform the vehicle ownership experience for Ghanaians.

“VW Ghana is here to stay, and we are ready to drive the future of Ghana’s automotive industry,” Peprah concluded.

I preached in a trotro and left a woman in shock – Celestine Donkor

0

Celestine Donkor has expressed her commitment to spreading the gospel beyond the stage, revealing that she actively preaches in schools and even on public transport.

“I am not your regular celebrity; I am an evangelist, I am a preacher,” she said in an interview on Hitz FM.

She explained that she launched an initiative called Campus Gospel, which focuses on bringing the gospel to students in primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions.

“School is the right place to start evangelism.

“Back in secondary school, we had evangelists visit us, and it really shaped me. So I believe we must reach young people with the gospel while they are still in school,” she stated.

Sharing a personal experience, Celestine recounted how she once preached in a trotro, surprising passengers.

“I remember on December 31st, I hopped into a trotro and started preaching.

“There was a woman who was just shocked! When I got down, she also got down, even though that was not her stop, just to bless me and tell me how much the message had touched her,” she recalled.

According to her, using her platform as a gospel musician goes beyond performing at events. “God has given me fame, but I believe it’s for preaching the gospel,” she emphasized.

Celestine Donkor also revealed that her Celestial Praise concert is now in its 11th edition and continues to grow.

She expressed gratitude to Victory Bible Church for supporting her ministry by providing a venue with the necessary equipment, making it more affordable for her team.
