Asamoah Gyan’s impact on football extends far beyond his goals. Known for his flair, joy, and iconic celebrations, the former Ghanaian striker brought a unique energy to the game that both fans and players still cherish.

US-born footballer of Ghanaian descent, Patrick Agyemang has reflected on Gyan’s legacy, paying tribute to his influence.

He highlighted how Gyan’s vibrant personality and signature goal celebrations left a lasting impression on football and on his own career.

In an interview with Flashscore, Agyemang, who watched the Black Stars during the 2010 World Cup, spoke highly of Ghana’s all-time top scorer, admiring his charismatic presence both on and off the pitch.

“When it comes to the joy of the game, flair, and talent, Asamoah Gyan is right there. Every time he scores, you never know what celebration he’s going to do but it’s always a dance. I love that because you don’t see it too much in the game anymore,” he said.

In January 2025, Agyemang made his debut for the USMNT, scoring against Venezuela. After finding the net, he thrilled fans by replicating Gyan’s signature dance celebration.

“I think people miss him because of how he engaged everyone. People still do his celebrations, including me,” he added.

NPP Demands Sedinam Tamakloe’s Prosecution to Prove NDC’s Anti-Corruption Credibility

0

Ernest Owusu-bempah

In a candid interview on United Television’s Afia Pokua program, Ernest Owusu Bempah, the Deputy Communication Director for the opposition New Patriotic Party, called on the Operation Recover All Loot Team to focus on retrieving assets tied to Sedinam Tamakloe—a former MASLOC boss convicted of causing financial loss to the state.

Bempah argued that if the ruling National Democratic Congress truly intends to fight corruption, then bringing Tamakloe back to Ghana and prosecuting her should be their first priority.

Bempah was unequivocal in his assessment, stating that the NDC government has undermined its moral authority by discontinuing corruption-related cases against its own party members. “You cannot simply drop all charges against those in your favor and then claim you’re cracking down on corruption,” he said. “If the NDC wants us to take its anti-corruption efforts seriously, they must go after Sedinam Tamakloe, who has already been convicted by a competent court. Only then will their fight against corruption have any real credibility.”

The opposition figure underscored a broader issue that has long plagued Ghana’s legal and political landscape—a selective approach to justice that seems to favor political expediency over genuine accountability. Bempah’s remarks come amid growing public skepticism regarding the handling of corruption cases by the NDC, particularly when significant cases are stalled or quietly dropped while new allegations emerge against figures in previous administrations.

Critics of the government’s record argue that real reform in the fight against corruption can only occur if all individuals, regardless of political affiliation, are held accountable. Bempah’s call to action reflects this sentiment, emphasizing that only a consistent and unbiased application of the law can restore public confidence. With widespread concerns about selective prosecutions and the potential for future nolle prosequi filings if the political winds change, his comments add urgency to the debate on how best to depoliticize corruption investigations.

As the controversy unfolds, many observers note that the case of Sedinam Tamakloe has become a litmus test for Ghana’s commitment to upholding the rule of law. The demand to bring her to justice is seen not only as a necessary step toward accountability but also as a measure to ensure that the government’s fight against corruption is both genuine and sustainable. The coming months will reveal whether the authorities are willing to take decisive action, setting a precedent that could either strengthen or further erode public trust in the nation’s institutions.

32-year-old businessman wins Western Regional Council of State election

0

Tarkwa-based businessman Maxwell Boakye has emerged victorious in the Western Regional Council of State election, securing a decisive win with 17 votes out of the total 28 votes cast in the first round of voting.

Maxwell Boakye, 32, outperformed eight other candidates in a contest that highlighted the region’s political engagement and the growing demand for youthful representation in governance.

“President Mahama has shown that he is ready to work with youth in his government. In fact, our elders have had enough time to be on the previous Council of State. The time has come for the youth to also have their chance to get a voice in government. Everyone here knows my hard work. I promise to work for the youth and region,” he said.

The election, which took place in a competitive atmosphere, saw Akwasi Nsiah-Awuah emerge as the closest contender, garnering 10 votes, while Adjei Clement managed to secure just a single vote.

The remaining six candidates were unable to secure any votes, effectively making Boakye’s victory a commanding one.

Following his declaration as the winner, Boakye, who hails from Sameraboi, expressed his gratitude to the delegates for entrusting him with the responsibility to represent the region on the Council of State.

In his victory speech, he emphasised the need for greater youth involvement in governance and policymaking at both the regional and national levels.

Chaos has erupted in the Ashanti Regional Council of State elections.

In the video-making runs on social media, some men were seen forcing their way through a police barricade at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council premises.

Ashanti Region’s Council of State Elections Turns Chaotic

0

Chaos erupted during the Council of State elections in the Ashanti Region as unidentified individuals stormed the voting center, disrupting the ballot sorting and counting process.

Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers overturned tables, vandalized ballot boxes, and scattered election materials, forcing Electoral Commission (EC) officials to halt proceedings.

The disturbance is believed to have been sparked by the unexpected loss of Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate who was widely seen as a strong contender.

Aggrieved supporters allegedly instigated the violence, demanding a review of the results.

Security personnel on-site struggled to control the situation, leading to a temporary suspension of the election.

In response, additional law enforcement officers have been deployed to restore calm and secure electoral materials.

The Electoral Commission has yet to issue an official statement regarding the disruption or the next steps for concluding the election.

Minority criticises NDC government for dropping charges aagainst former officials

0

By Godwill Arthur-Mensah/Elsie Appiah-Osei

Accra, Feb 11, GNA – The Minority Caucus in Parliament Tuesday criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government for withdrawing charges against some former officials, including Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, and Dr Johnson Asiamah.

Addressing the Parliamentary Press Corps in Parliament, Mr John Darko, a New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Suame said the Attorney-General, Dr Dominic Ayine, allegedly exercised his power under section 59(2)(b)ii of the Criminal and Other Offences (Procedure) Act, 1960, Act 30, to discontinue the prosecutions.

He said the cases involved various charges, including alleged fraudulent breach of trust, money laundering, conspiracy to commit crime, and violations of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) Act.

He said: “The trials had been ongoing for several years, with some at advanced stages.”

The Caucus argued that the withdrawal of charges was “highly discriminatory” and grants “immunity from future prosecution” to the accused persons.

Mr Darko said ordinary Ghanaians facing similar charges had not been given the same treatment.

“This unprecedented act of clearing and whitewashing people of gargantuan financial and other offences in Ghana by the newly appointed NDC A-G and the John Mahama Government is very scandalous,” he said.

He also questioned why the NDC government chose to withdraw these specific cases, asking, “Is the A-G saying that there is no responsibility for the financial offences committed against the people for which the accused persons were standing trial?”

According to the Caucus, the development had sparked concerns about the administration of justice in Ghana, with many wondering if the country is becoming a “banana republic.”

“… We now live in a country where former officials of NDC are treated differently from other Ghanaians. Fellow Ghanaians, please if you are facing any criminal prosecution, go to the AG office and ask the charges to be dropped as they have done for the accused persons named here because we are all Ghanaians entitled to equal treatment under the law,” he said.

Vetting Chaos: I Take Blame- Dafeamekpor

0

Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor

Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, the Majority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament (MP) for South Dayi, has accepted responsibility for the disorder that occurred during the Appointments Committee’s session on January 30, 2025.

Speaking before the ad hoc committee investigating the incident, Mr. Dafeamekpor expressed regret over the event and acknowledged the damage caused to Parliament’s reputation.

“I take responsibility, so when my punishment came, I took it in good faith,” the Majority Chief Whip stated, emphasising the importance of leadership accountability.

He noted that while some colleagues disagreed with the disciplinary actions taken, he believed it was appropriate for leaders to be held accountable when consensus-building fails.

“Others disagreed that if punishment were to be meted out, it ought not to be me. But I might agree in principle that you need to punish the leaders for what happened,” he stressed.

Reflecting on the event of that night, Mr. Dafeamekpor attributed the chaos to a breakdown in consensus-building efforts.

He suggested that the insistence on certain procedures by his counterparts from the Minority caucus contributed to the disorder.

“Consensus building failed for that night. If my counterparts were not minded to insist on their modus operandi for that day, we wouldn’t have experienced that,” he remarked.

The incident on January 30, 2025 escalated into a physical confrontation between members of the Majority and Minority during the vetting of ministerial nominees, leading to property damage within the committee room.

Following the altercation, four MPs, including Mr. Dafeamekpor, were suspended, prompting a walkout by the Minority. The Majority proceeded with the vetting process the following day.

No Fight

The Majority Chief Whip also refuted claims of engaging in a physical altercation, explaining that his actions were aimed at restoring order, not inciting conflict.

Recounting an exchange with Alhassan Tampuli, MP for Gushegu, Mr. Dafeamekpor said, “I don’t recall ever holding his dress at all. It would have led to something else because I am also strong enough.”

He continued, “If I had held his dress, it would have led to something else. I had my two hands up, he held the front of my fugu this way. I had my hands up and I was exchanging.”

He emphasised that he was attempting to de-escalate the situation by reminding Mr. Tampuli of their shared professional background, saying, “Oh bro, why do you want us to fight over this? We are lawyers; we are custodians; we don’t do this.” Eventually, Tampuli released his grip.

“No, I didn’t fight. The Minority was interested in preventing any business from being conducted. Perhaps Tampuli didn’t like that I helped Asiedu out of his grip, but in the end, he smiled, and that was it. It was not a fight at all,” he added.

Mr. Dafeamekpor said, “I was the beneficiary, so my focus was not to get my people involved, and to make sure that even though they were intending to disrupt as much as they could, they did very little damage.”

According to him, despite the disruptions, he aimed to ensure the process continued, even after tables were flipped and cables were pulled.

He revealed that the Minority Leader had instructed his members to halt the vetting process entirely, which led to the physical disturbances observed during the session.

“The instruction was that the vetting must not go on,” Dafeamekpor said, explaining the pushback from the Minority side.

He commended his members for stepping in to restore order but acknowledged the damage that had already occurred, including the destruction of electronic equipment.

“We couldn’t do anything. The electronic gadgets were completely damaged,” he said.

He also responded to questions about the conduct of his members, defending their actions in attempting to calm the chaos. “I would rather commend them for trying to ensure that order was restored,” Dafeamekpor said, noting that the intervention of MPs from the Majority side helped prevent further escalation.

In his proposals for improving the vetting process, the Majority Chief Whip suggested a change of venue as a potential solution to avoid similar disruptions in the future.

“We must consider relocating to a new venue, such as the Speaker’s conference room, to prevent the chaos from following us,” he proposed.

He also called for stricter protocols, including limiting the number of people accompanying nominees and setting clear timeframes for questioning, particularly for Ranking Members.

He also acknowledged the difficulty in managing the Ranking Member’s extensive questioning during vetting sessions.

“They have such massive power,” he said, noting that this could lead to extended sessions that were not always productive.

He suggested introducing clearer time limits for all members to prevent the process from dragging on for too long.

Sports and Recreation Minister calls for re-evaluation of match venues

0

By Simon Asare

Accra, Feb. 11, GNA – Mr Kofi Iddie Adams, the Minister of Sports and Recreation, has urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to re-evaluate match venues to ensure safety and security.

He made this statement during his first meeting with the top hierarchy of GFA on Monday, where they discussed critical issues concerning stadium security as well as ways to reduce violence and hooliganism at league centres.

During the discussion, Mr Adams emphasised the need for the Club Licensing Committee and Safety and Security Committee to work together with the Ministry and the National Sports Authority to ensure that venues meet the necessary standards.

The Sports and Recreation Minister emphasised the need to make match venues safe for stakeholders to ensure an overall development of sports.

Mr Adams tasked the GFA to work with the Sports and Recreation Ministry, the National Sports Authority, and other stakeholders to develop sports and achieve success and sports development for the country.

Mr Prosper Harrison Addo, GFA’s General Secretary, briefed the Minister on steps taken on the recent death of Kotoko supporter Francis Nana Yaw Frimpong as they sought justice.

He stated that the GFA and Asante Kotoko SC share the same position that this is a criminal act and must be handled as such without any reservations by the Ghana Police Service.

This, he said, is also the position of the IGP, and all efforts are being made to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Ghana’s music industry underutilises technical capacity – Dark Suburb

0

The lead vocalist of Ghana’s alternative rock band, Dark Suburb, believes the country’s music industry is struggling to reach its full potential.

According to him, industry professionals are underestimating the technical and business capabilities available to them.

In an interview with Joy News‘ Becky, the lead vocalist stated, “I think the Ghanaian music industry is underestimating the technical capacity of a technical space, the business capacity of a business space. Musicians are now expected to be musical directors, but the experts who can handle and sell their talents are elsewhere. In Ghana, people who are not experts are handling expertise.”

This underestimation, he notes, could be due to limited resources, lack of awareness, or inadequate training. As a result, the music industry in Ghana may be missing out on opportunities to innovate, grow, and compete globally.

Dark Suburb is a Ghanaian alternative rock band that formed in 2014. The band consists of a drummer, bassist, pianist, lead guitarist, and lead singer, as well as a chief priest who serves as their official spokesperson. Their music genre is a unique blend of alternative rock and Afro-Rock, reflecting the fusion of sound elements from across Africa.

With their mysterious concept and captivating performances, Dark Suburb has become a sensation in the Ghanaian music scene, performing at various sold-out concerts over the years.

‘An agreement is an agreement; I am not dependant on Fameye’ – Ama Nova replies critics

0

Budding Ghanaian artiste, Ama Nova, has responded to critics regarding her complaints about Fameye not honouring an agreement to promote their new song titled ‘Odo different’.

Ama Nova recently expressed frustration over Fameye’s failure to fulfil a promotional agreement they had, which included him sharing posts and being featured in the official music video.

In response to this, entertainment pundit Bullgod advised her to focus on promoting the song independently, instead of relying on Fameye.

However, in an interview with Showbiz TV on February 11, 2024, Ama Nova has clarified that she was not dependent on Fameye financially but was simply expecting him to keep his word.

“I did not say I was dependent on Fameye. I never said Fameye had to use his money to promote me. An agreement is an agreement. We had an agreement,” she explained.

Ama Nova also refuted DJ Slim’s claim that Fameye was unaware of her presence in Ghana.

She pointed out that she had performed at Fameye’s concert in December 2024.

When asked why the agreement was not in writing, she explained that it was based on trust, given her close relationship with Fameye and his team.

“It wasn’t penned down because the people I work with are very close to Fameye. I’ve always been a fan and supported him, so it was easy at the time,” she said.

Despite the setbacks, Ama Nova is still hopeful that Fameye will eventually honour their agreement and participate in the music video as planned.

“It would be nice for him to show up in the video as we agreed. I don’t mind shooting it alone, but his presence would make a difference,” she stated.

She also urged Ghana’s “big acts” to follow through on their promises, adding that while they often express support for younger artistes in interviews, their actions sometimes contradict their words.

Ama Nova’s complaints

The singer claimed that despite paying Fameye for both a music video and promotional posts for their new song, none of his social media platforms have since shared any promotional content.

She also noted that Fameye’s manager had been repeatedly postponing meetings, citing busy schedules.

“Every time I called, they said they were busy and on the road. They told me to keep trying and maybe one day I’d get lucky,” she shared.

How the new BoG boss supervised the collapse of banks in 2016 – Manhyia South MP alleges

0

Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah is the Member of Parliament of Manhyia South Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah is the Member of Parliament of Manhyia South

The Member of Parliament of Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has strongly opposed the appointment of Dr. Johnson Asiama as the new Bank of Ghana Governor, indicating his alleged involvement in the collapse of several banking institutions, which led to the banking sector cleanup.

Speaking on Lawson TV on Monday, February 10, 2025, Baffour Awuah claimed that Dr. Asiamah, who previously served as the Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana from 2016 to 2017, was responsible for supervising banking institutions to ensure they adhered to financial regulations and complied with the law, as well as monitoring potential financial risks to people’s investments.

According to him, Dr. Asiama’s failure to provide adequate oversight and thorough scrutiny of certain banks facing severe challenges, despite his explicit role in ensuring proper banking supervision ultimately contributed to the collapse of these institutions, reflecting his lack of qualifications for the position.

“Under Mahama’s government in 2012-2016, there was a main governor called Wampah. His first deputy was called Nashiru and Dr. Asiamah was the second deputy governor. He was in charge of banking supervision, which means he was to supervise banks and ensure they were operating in accordance with the financial sector laws.

“Microfinance and savings and loans were all under his supervision. Reports from the IMF and the Bank of Ghana all indicated that the banking sector was in serious crisis and that some of the banks needed to be collapsed, which we call clean up,” he said.

The lawmaker, representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP), believes that Dr. Asiamah’s role as the head of banking supervision during the period of the banking sector cleanup makes him the person most responsible for the banking crisis.

He maintained that Dr. Asiama’s failure to foresee the looming crisis raised valid concerns about his negligence, arguing that his appointment to lead Ghana’s central bank could pose serious issues if not addressed.

“Many of the bank owners acknowledged that the banks were in a financial crisis and needed to be cleaned up. If the banks had problems and were in crisis, who was in charge of supervision? It was Asiama who was the supervisor and so if he did not see whatever happened, then we can say he was negligent, which is worse. If it wasn’t negligence, then it was incompetence,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, Baffour Awuah has urged President John Dramani Mahama to revoke the appointment of Dr. Asiama if he genuinely has the country’s best interests at heart.

“I want to tell President John Mahama that if truly he has the best interests of the country at heart and wants to curb corruption, then he should withdraw the appointment of the BoG governor,” he added.

Baffour Awuah is the latest to join other members of the New Patriotic Party in calling for the withdrawal of the Bank of Ghana governor’s appointment.

Why are Abedi Pele, other legends not involved in football?

0

Former Black Stars midfielder, Sulley Muntari Former Black Stars midfielder, Sulley Muntari

Former Black Stars midfielder Sulley Muntari has raised concerns about the absence of some Ghanaian football greats at the top echelons of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

He stated that some legendary players like Abedi Ayew Pele, Tony Yeboah, and others should be utilized by the GFA in the management of football.

The former Inter Milan midfielder asserted that the experience and expertise these individuals have gained in their footballing careers would be useful to Ghana sports.

Speaking in an interview with 3Sports, Muntari clarified that the roles for the legends should not be coaching but rather various administrative roles.

“Let’s ask ourselves, where is Abedi Pele? Why isn’t Abedi coming around? Why isn’t Tony Yeboah coming around? Not to mention us, we didn’t do anything. These guys are triple legends.

“When Abedi Pele is in the system, you put him in the right place. I’m not talking about coaching,” he said when asked about his assessment of how the GFA work with ex-players.

Detained Ugandan politician starts hunger strike

0

Kizza Besigye has previously accused the Ugandan authorities of political persecution. Kizza Besigye has previously accused the Ugandan authorities of political persecution.

Detained Ugandan opposition politician Kizza Besigye has begun a hunger strike as his time spent in detention awaiting trial nears three months.

Besigye, 68, was charged in a military court with possession of pistols and attempting to purchase weapons abroad – accusations which he denies.

On Tuesday, an aide from Besigye’s political movement, the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), told the BBC: “We believe he is protesting because he should not still be in prison – he should be home.”

Besigye’s trial was initially postponed until January – it is now unclear when the court case will begin.

Besigye used to be a personal doctor for Uganda’s longtime president, Yoweri Museveni, but went on to become an opposition leader.

He has contested and lost four presidential elections against Museveni, who has been in power since 1986. The veteran opposition figure has previously accused the Ugandan authorities of political persecution.

He has been less active in politics in recent years, and did not contest the 2021 election.

However, Besigye returned to the headlines last month after he was dramatically abducted while visiting Kenya and forcibly taken to Uganda.

The detention sparked widespread condemnation and fears of a clandestine exchange of intelligence between the two neighbours.

Besigye was then charged along with an aide, Obeid Lutale. Mr Lutale also denied the charges.

In a landmark ruling last month, Uganda’s Supreme Court declared it unconstitutional for military courts to try civilians, ordering the transfer of all such cases to civilian courts.

The move angered President Museveni, who dismissed it as “a wrong decision” and vowed to challenge the ruling.

Besigye has had various other run-ins with the law.

On Tuesday, the opposition politician was expected to appear before a civilian court for a hearing on a 2022 case in which he is accused of holding an unlawful demonstration. However, he did not attend the hearing, citing health reasons.

In 2005, Besigye was arrested while returning from a political rally ahead of the 2006 presidential polls and charged with treason. The charges were thrown out by the courts.

He was also charged with rape in a separate case. The charges were later dropped. He said all the allegations were part of a campaign of political persecution.

Museveni has defended the use of military courts to try civilians.

He said any crime involving a gun was dealt with in a military court to ensure the country’s stability as civilian courts took too long to deal with cases.

Opposition parties have frequently complained about restrictions on political activities, alleging that Museveni fears political competition.

Museveni’s supporters deny the allegation, and say he has maintained stability during his rule of almost 40 years.

Eschew egoism, indiscipline and superiority complex-Speaker Bagbin to MPs

0

By Godwill Arthur-Mensah

Accra, Feb.11, GNA – Speaker of Parliament Alban S. K. Bagbin has charged parliamentarians to eschew egoism, indiscipline, and superiority complex and exhibit exemplary leadership to the youth.

That, he said, would promote unity, healthier and stronger Parliamentary work for sustainable national development.

Speaker S, K. Bagbin gave the admonition at the Speaker’s First Breakfast Prayer Meeting of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic of the Parliamentary Christian Fellowship (PCF) at Parliament House on Tuesday.

The meeting was under the auspices of Speaker, Alban S. K Bagbin, which was held on the theme, “A Better and a Stronger Parliament” anchored on Psalm 33:12 “Blessed is the Nation Whose God is the Lord, The People Whom He was Chosen to be His Heritage”.

The Speaker bemoaned the recent disturbances that have characterized parliamentary proceedings and cautioned that he would not hesitate to crack the whip on erring parliamentarians to ensure order, harmony, and decency in parliamentary business.

He said Parliament was the bedrock of democracy and not an avenue for politicking or religious fanaticism, and tasked parliamentarians to be guided by national interest.

The Speaker charged Parliamentarians to be remembered for righting the wrongs in society and not promoters of brute and indecency.

“Your legacy must inspire greatness, set an example for the youth and be a catalyst for change,” he asked the Parliamentarians.

Speaker Bagbin, therefore, proposed the setting up of a “National Integrity Awards” to recognise and reward individuals who had exhibited the highest degree of decency, professionalism, and integrity in their respective fields whilst those whose conduct had brought shame and embarrassment to the country would be given “Vulture Award”.

The Speaker suggested that a committee be set up, comprising the Clergy, academia, and accomplished personalities, to assess the performance of individuals who would be proposed for recognition.

Meanwhile, Archbishop Nicolas Duncan Williams, the General Overseer of Action Faith Chapel International, during a word of exhortation, noted that a kingdom divided against itself would fall and underscored the need for consensus building to foster national development.

The prayer meeting brought together Members of Parliament (MPs), the Clerkship, the Clergy and Staff of the Parliament Service.

The congregants prayed for President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman, Speaker of Parliament Alban S. K. Bagbin and the entire nation.

In attendance were MPs, ministers of State and the Clergy including Archbishop Nicolas Duncan Williams, General Overseer of Action Faith Chapel International, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, President of Parliamentary Christian Fellowship, Kwaku Asante-Boateng, Vice President of the Parliamentary Christian Fellowship, Ebenezer Djietrior, the Clerk to Parliament, and Voices of Democracy.

The Speaker’s Prayer meeting is organised by the PCF at the beginning of each meeting of Parliament, to commit the House into the hands of God and seek divine guidance.

Violence erupts at Ashanti Region Council of State polls, EC suspends sorting

The Council of State elections in the Ashanti Region descended into chaos as a group of unidentified thugs stormed the election center, disrupting the sorting and counting of ballots.

Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants forcefully entered the venue, overturning tables, destroying ballot boxes, and scattering voting materials, compelling Electoral Commission (EC) officials to suspend the process.

The unrest is believed to have been triggered by the unexpected defeat of National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, who was widely considered a frontrunner.

Supporters, reportedly aggrieved by the outcome, allegedly instigated the violence, demanding a review of the results.

Security personnel on-site struggled to contain the situation as tensions flared, prompting a temporary suspension of the election proceedings.

Additional law enforcement officers have since been deployed to restore order and safeguard electoral materials.

As of now, the Electoral Commission is yet to release an official statement addressing the disruption or outlining the next steps regarding the election results.
